If anyone is interested, I translated the character descriptions :)
Vaas Montenegro
Vaas was born into the tumultuous and poor environment of the Rook Islands where lawlessness and brutality are the norm. A member of the indigenous Rakyat tribe, his youth was shadowed by the harsh realities of the region. Raised without stability or education, he relentlessly refined his survival instincts and his determination as he grew up.
Vaas’ journey led him to a life of crime and power, fueled by a charismatic personality that often explodes with implacable ferocity. He quickly rose through the ranks of the local underworld, establishing his dominance using fear and coercion. His strategic craftiness based on exploitation has made him a formidable force to be reckoned with.
His cruelty and unpredictability are defining traits that inspire both loyalty and terror in those around him. Vaas has extended his influence through intimidation and manipulation, gathering around him an army of cruel pirates in search of easy money. Now alone at the top of the crime pyramid, he is ready to crush anyone who would challenge his authority.
Unaware of the danger, the group of friends did not know they were on Vaas’ land. How dare they march into HIS territory without permission? Their carefree and naive lifestyle is an insult to his way of living where one must fight for survival.
To him, they are unsuspecting prey waiting to be captured. He can therefore make them pay for their carelessness by taking away their freedom. Since he had to adapt to the harshness of the islands to survive, they will have to do it too...
Grant Brody
A former American soldier, Grant is the eldest of the Brody brothers. He always felt a duty to protect his friends and family.
Today more than ever, as they are captive to Vaas’ insanity, he guides them through the perils of the Rook Islands.
Dennis Rogers
Born in Liberia, disillusioned with his life in the United States, Dennis finally feels at home on the Rook Islands.
Deeply connected to the indigenous Rakyat tribe, Dennis helps the team in this unforgiving environment, hoping they can help him in return.
Dr. Alec Earnhardt
Drowning in grief after the loss of his daughter Agnes, Dr. Earnhardt left Oxford and his brilliant career to eventually wash up on the Rook Islands.
The island’s unique flora allows him to create innovative medicinal concoctions, thus helping him cope with the harshness of his current situation.
Willis Huntley
A cunning and enigmatic CIA agent, he operates in the shadows and plots to achieve his goal.
It seems you can count on him. As long as you have common interests...
New Far Cry 3 Board Game featuring Vaas Montenegro titled Far Cry: Escape from Rook Islands (Summer 2024).

Obscure Far Cry Promos and Content
I'm a big far cry fan, which means I have to make my own food in this economy. But sometimes I just want some ACTUAL canon or canon-ish or even just canon-adjacent content, y'know? It has gotten to the point I go into youtube rabbit holes or watch a remarkably below average hallmark movies for 5 minutes of an actor's screentime to hopefully hear Jason or Ajay or whoever talk. And so in these quests, I've found a couple obscure promos. Gonna compile them here for myself mostly :)
Far Cry 3
Far Cry 3 - The Voices of Insanity: Doctor Earnhardt //a live action video with Alec Earnhardt's VA
Far Cry 3 - The Voices of Insanity: Vaas //same thing but with Michael Mando
Hoyt Audition Far Cry 3 //the last part of "The Voices of Insanity" videos, couldn't find the one from Ubisoft's own account but someone else had posted it on youtube
Far Cry 3 for PS3: TV Spot
Far Cry 3 -- Island Survival Guide: Psychopaths, Drugs & Other Dangers // video narrated by Willis Huntley
Far Cry 3 -- The Savages: Vaas & Buck // this video shows a rare render of vaas with tataus on his arm!
Far Cry 3 | The Tribe: Citra & Dennis //this video has a deleted scene where Jason hallucinates the tatau snaking up his arm
Far Cry 3 -- The Tyrant: Hoyt
Far Cry 3 - Insane Edition // this is a promo done for a special edition for the game, Michael Mando probably couldn't shoot the promo himself and just voice acted, and so they used another actor and made it so the camera never sees Vaas's face.
^ There is also a survival guide titled Face Your Insanity written by post-Rook events Jason Brody as part of the Insane Edition.
Far Cry 3 | E3 2012 Step Into Insanity Trailer [NORTH AMERICA] // this has a few close-ups of Jason and Vaas switching places with each other
Far Cry 3 Interviews (via @lulu2992)
Far Cry 3 Tweets by Jeffrey Yohalem, the lead writer. (also compiled by @/lulu2992! Thanks again!)
Far Cry 4
Divya Kandala's Blog (archived on the Wayback Machine) // Divya Kandala is a fictional journalist who wrote a blog about her travels to Kyrat, her blog's basically world-building promo for FC4. You could also find the house she stayed at in Kyrat!
Far Cry 4 TV Commercial
Far Cry 4 | Kyrat Tuk Tuk Stories //this is the MOST we see ajay in third person in promo content
Far Cry 4 - CGI Trailer // this isn't exactly RARE but it took forever for me to find that clip of ajay's eyes reflecting from the kukri. plus he looks EXTREMELY caucasian which really doesn't help the rumors I've heard that they originally wanted Jason again as FC4's protag
Comedy Central Far Cry 4 Commercial feat Danny Pudi & Donald Glover
Far Cry 4 and Childish Gambino: The Collaboration | PS4, PS3 // a music video for Crawl by Childish Gambino done as a collab
Old Archive.Org link to the Far Cry 4 webpage that had a choose your own adventure campaign
^ and the youtube video to promote it
Far Cry 4 | Behind the Scene Trailer 1/3 [Europe] // developer vlogs when they visited Nepal and interviewed the ghurka that became base for Golden Path, you can see the village that resembles Banapur a lot!
Far Cry 4 Performance Capture Interview // you can see Janina Gavankar, Amita's actress doing some mocap in this
Janina Gavankar Talks Far Cry 4 - ^ and the interview with her after
World Gameplay Premiere - Walkthrough E3 2014 - Far Cry 4 // this was to showcase gameplay but they eventually took out this entire mission where you have to wingsuit to Ratu Gadhi (Yuma's fortress), which is a shame because it looked very nice.
Far Cry 5
i'll be honest, im not a fc5 girlie, so i dont usually do a lot of digging, and im pretty sure these are actually not obscure at all. but these are trailers i found that really blew it out of the park. the marketing team for 5 really went HAM
Far Cry 5: Teaser Trailer | Ubisoft //this has a peggie banging someone's head to a church bell rhythmically with the gorgeous view of Montana mountains as backdrop and i for one, find it hilarious
Far Cry 5 | The Sermon - Live Action Trailer
Far Cry 5 | The Baptism - Live Action Trailer //somebody once mentioned this one has Joseph looking like Trevor GTA and i have never quite known peace ever since. it really also shows the reality of how Joseph is actually just really Unwell, and lore that Joseph killed Pastor Jerome's daughter that never showed up in-game.
Far Cry 5: Anything Can Happen, Everything Will - Live Action TV Spot | Trailer // mixes live action and game CGI renders, pretty cool actually!
The Making of Far Cry 5 | Behind the Scenes of Ubisoft [Documentary]
Far Cry 6 Comics
not gonna put in FC6 stuff because they're actually very easy to find! lots of trailers and mocaps and interviews on youtube :) Far Cry 6 actually has a more obscure lore in their comics
Far Cry: Esperanza's Tears comic // this is a Juan-centric prequel comic that features a completely new country, lore about Far Cry universe's political landscape, and lots of cameos from 3-6's characters! very interesting read especially if you're a sucker for backstories like me
Far Cry: Rite of Passage comic // this is more popular as it features Anton telling Diego the backstories for 3-5's villains.
There is also a book titled The Official Far Cry Survival Guide written by a fictional character called Hunter Nash, who supposedly grew up with Hope County-level of a doomsday prepper dad and winds up as a journalist who travels to the locations of 3-6 and wrote how to survive each location accordingly. It's adorned with official artwork of the games and plenty of survival tips. Not much lore-wise, but cool nonetheless! it also fuels my co-workers au ideas but that's personal.
i have actually found stuff like a really old MTV show called Undressed with Gianpaolo Venuta where he uses his Jason voice for his character, and how Patrick Kwok-Choon, the new voice actor for Ajay does voice acting in Thomas the Train Engine and Paw Patrol, and an indie movie with Greg Bryk where he wears fun sunglasses like Joseph, but that's neither here nor there to the franchise, so eh. // i'll edit this post if i find more, so maybe check back sometimes!

Could we get Vaas sending Liv out of the camp because of Hoyt coming down. She goes out to see the doc and gets some pictures of him and his home. Cue Vaas getting jealous of her pictures of Doc!
A/n: thank you, hun, for sending me this. I had fun writing it. I hope you enjoy it.
Warning(s): Vaas being Vaas (albeit a bit tame), mentions of drugs, language, jealousy.
No Minors Allowed!!
"Hoyt is coming here? Why?" Liv asked, raising a curious brow.
She tried not to let it show, but she was terrified. Since meeting him, she never wanted to be put in a situation where she'd have to see him again, but of course, things didn't always work out the way she wanted them to - her new life on the Rook Islands was an example of this.
Carlos sighed. He understood her worry, he didn't much like Hoyt or his Privateers, but her questions were unnecessary.
"It doesn't fucking matter. We're not going to be here."
Liv was more confused than ever, but as if the pirate knew what she was about to ask, he quickly answered.
"El Jefe (the boss) is sending us on a run to the doctor's house."
This must be a drug run.
The only time Vaas sent someone to Doctor Earnhardt's place was to buy drugs from him, though Liv never went to see him for that reason. She wondered if Vaas was sending her there because of Hoyt's sudden visit. Her stomach was in knots. She wasn't sure how to feel about this.
"Can I grab my camera before we go?"
"Hurry the fuck up," Carlos retorted in annoyance.
He honestly didn't mind. As long as she stayed out of his business, then he was content. Giving her back her camera was probably the best idea Vaas had when it came to Liv. At least she wasn't annoying Carlos.
With her Olympus in tow, she got into the Scavenger and tinkered with the settings as Carlos drove her to the doctor's house. Liv was beyond excited; the land around the mansion was gorgeous.
She spent hours running around the grounds within sight of Carlos, taking pictures. Doctor Earnhardt was a bit strange, but always so kind to her, sometimes mistaking her name as Agnes, which she didn't mind. It almost saddened her to say goodbye to him and return to the outpost.
Liv was on cloud 9 as she sat beside Yada at an unoccupied table beneath one of the huts. It was almost time to eat thankfully, so she waited with him as Carlos went to check in with Vaas.
"Why are you so damn happy?" Yada asked.
Was she not allowed to be?
"Good day," Liv uttered.
"Lucky fucking you. We had to deal with Hoyt and his stuck-up putas (bitches)," Yada mentioned.
Liv would have felt bad for them, only the Pirates could handle it. She wondered if Vaas was in a terrible mood; she wanted to view her pictures on the laptop. It was probably best if she waited.
After dinner, she sauntered to the trailer that Vaas stayed in and knocked on the door, knowing better than to just walk in.
"Fuck off!" He shouted in response.
Liv tightened her jaw. She reckoned that he was in a bad mood. With an uneasy breath, she clutched her camera right.
"Thank you!"
She turned to walk away, but the sound of the door slamming open startled her, drawing her attention to the pirate. Her first response was to avert her eyes, due to his half-naked appearance; his shirt was missing, and his pants were nearly hanging off his hips. The dark circles beneath his eyes were more prominent, making her assume that he had been trying to sleep.
Liv felt her face heat up.
"The fuck are you thanking me for?" Vaas asked in confusion.
"For allowing me to go with Carlos to see Alec," Liv answered quietly. She lifted her camera. "I took some pictures. Um… I left you a note before I borrowed it from your room."
Vaas ordered her inside, despite the look of annoyance on his face. He considered turning her away since he wasn't in the mood, but the content and embarrassed look on her face wasn't one he was used to seeing. She mostly tried to hide her fear, remaining quiet in his presence unless spoken to.
As she walked in, Vaas shut the door behind her and grabbed the laptop, tossing it on the bed before he lay down. He watched Liv grab the cable, sitting down on the edge beside him where he could see the scene.
One by one, once booted, the images appeared on the screen. Liv was in awe of them, even the ones of Doctor Earnhardt that she took. A specific one of him sitting at his chair by the window made her smile. He looked comfortable, maybe even a little high.
"You like him?" Vaas suddenly asked.
Liv raised a brow.
"Alec? He's sweet… Though sometimes he's a bit unorthodox. But I like him enough."
"Enough to fuck him?" Vaas asked.
Where was this coming from? Liv wasn't sure what to say. She peered over at him, seeing his eyes narrowed on the screen. There was no way he could have been jealous of the doctor. Vaas might be bipolar but she had never seen him show signs of jealousy toward Alec before.
Is it because of me?
Liv sighed. How was she meant to defuse this? Turning her eyes back to the laptop, she searched for an image and then turned it into a background image, lying down beside him; the laptop rested on her stomach.
"This is by far my favorite picture on the island."
It was a picture of Vaas sitting on the beach with the sun on his back, making him appear almost like an angel.
Or a demon.
"The lighting is flawless," Liv uttered as she hovered her fingers over the screen, showing him the way it cascaded over him. "And so are you. Guapo (handsome), no?"
"¡Mierda (shit)! You know how to play the game," Vaas stated with a grin. "Always kissing my ass."
He put his fingers to his lips to emphasize his point.
Liv snorted in response.
She wasn't lying. Vaas was the most handsome demon she had ever seen.
Here's to hoping he doesn't attack Alec for this.

1. Jason is a jerk with a heart of gold and I love him. One of the best developed characters in the Far Cry franchise. His journey is so intriguing to watch, especially the one I chose. He was just some goofball who became the most feared man on the island and was starting to realise how much of a monster he was turning into. The Rakyat I don’t have much opinion on but I think they made a pretty standard support (before the reveal). Will never forgive them for killing Earnhardt.
2. Intrigued and panicking.
3. Sam Becket, Willis Huntley and Alec Earnhardt and the exotic visuals (the drug trips as well).
4. Protecting Willis as he repairs the plane and rescuing Riley from the airport (the helicopter ride/killing people on the machine gun was epic). The sex scene/s I could do without, but it’s integral to the plot so it’s unavoidable (though Citra taking advantage of her attractiveness and manipulating Jason with her body is a clever move).
5. Of course. Rook Islands is a great landscape, though the underwater missions are stomach churning for me (especially with the damn sharks and crocodiles.
6. I’m caught between Vaas and Citra. Vaas is loud and funny and has a glimpses of innocence that immediately changes to a more aggressive mood. Vaas’ relationship with Jason as both victims in the same circumstance that Citra has put them through is something I loved seeing. For Citra, she’s cunning and dangerous in a more subtle way, and contrary to popular belief, Citra IS the main antagonist of Far Cry 3. But there’s also a bit of tragedy in her story. She’s trying to preserve the Rakyat and their traditions by following the stories of old, and since Vaas (justifiably) didn’t want to be apart of that, Jason was her best chance. And that either ends with her conceiving the ultimate warrior’s child (the preservation of her tribe) or it ends with her own devoted follower fatally stabbing her, dooming the tribe.
7. Don’t really have one. But if I had to… Buck Hughes. He’s crudely funny but I hate him with every bone in my body.
8. I picked the ‘free your friends’ ending.
9. Favourite would have to be Daisy. Don’t really have an explanation other than she’s got a likeable personality and I liked the relationship she had with Earnhardt. Least favourite will have to be Keith, not because I don’t like him, and I feel really bad for what Buck did to him, but he doesn’t have much personality.
10. Answered in question 6.
11. Insanity DLC (despite its flaws) does confirm that Vaas is alive, and it also made sense for Far Cry 3. You are becoming the very monster you are killing. Also Vaas, Buck and Hoyt were selling and killing people. Citra got Earnhardt killed so that got personal really fast (and she tried to get Jason to sacrifice his friends and Riley but Earnhardt was hardly that much of a threat).
12. Yes, and out of all the DLCs it is the most enjoyable and the most tolerable. Doesn’t change the fact the writers messed up on a few things (especially the relationship between Vaas and Citra + Vaas and Jason being the most prominent) but overall they got Vaas pretty accurate. Which was most probably because of Michael Mando’s love for the character.

I wonder, do any of the Far Cry muses know how to dance? If so, what styles of dance do they know?
Under a cut since I have so many muses for Far Cry sorry LMFAO-
Characters excluded as not knowing how to dance: Buck Hughes (No interest in dancing) Cameron Burke (No interest in dancing) Cain, Ethan, Jacob and John Seed (No interest in dancing) Rook (No interest in dancing) Reese Spoon (No interest in dancing) Staci Pratt (No interest in dancing) Jerome Jeffries (No interest in dancing) Ivanova (No interest in dancing)
~` Far Cry 3 ~` Earnhardt - Can 100% tango, those kinds of classical dances that are kinda slow. S O good at it.
Vaas - Considering that Far Cry 3 (and I did a brief bit of research on this so I might fuck it up) takes place near Indonesia, the dances listed here would be ones Vaas is very familiar with.
Hoyt - If it is to be believed that Hoyt was born in South Africa, then these dances are what he is most familiar with and is willing to teach!
Sam - Having spent a LOT of time in Germany (especially as a kid when he'd moved to Germany) he got to learn a lot of the traditional dances. Schuhplattler is what he's best at. (Video of it here)
~` Far Cry 5 ~` Faith - Tends to do spin dancing! (Mostly because of what he does in game a lot) but she's amazing at it.
Joseph - Tango and waltz is what he knows best and that's only because he was taught by Annabelle on how to do them.
Nick - Dancing? He only knows embarrassing ones for his family.
Sharky - Same as Nick, only does embarrassing ones.
Annabelle - Tango and waltzes are her favourite types to dance and the ones she had taught Joseph. She'd waltzed with Joseph on their wedding day.
Everett - ALSO the same as Nick and Sharky, though he has a lot more fun with it than embarrassing. Mostly done while playing his guitar.
Miller - Country dances are most common with Miller. Simple, wild, but he has his fun!
~` Far Cry New Dawn ~` Rush - He does his best to keep the 'old world' dances going! Tango, waltzes, etc are what he keeps alive.
~` Far Cry 6 ~` Diego - To not be a disappointment to his father, he's had to learn many dances. Though originating from Cuba, they persist even in Yara.
