Synopsis

Chrysanthemums were your brother's favorite flowers, red ones especially.

The irony, then, of bringing a bouquet of white chrysanthemums to his funeral is not lost on you.

It was supposed to be a day like any other in the big city: investigate a crime scene, interview witnesses, collect evidence, arrest suspects, return home to the apartment you shared with your best friend and fellow Archersvale native, and have a video chat with your older brother. So when your best friend tells you that they received a call informing them of your brother’s death, you know that nothing will ever be the same again.

They say he died in his sleep, most likely from overexertion. He always did work himself to the bone when he was putting together a big news article; it was what made him the best investigative journalist of your small town.

For the first time in almost a decade, you and your best friend return to Archersvale for your brother’s funeral…only to discover that his death may not have been as natural as it seemed.

Being the only homicide detective around for miles, it’s up to you now to find out what exactly happened to your brother, why it happened, and who did it. Being related to the victim also obviously brings about a conflict of interest, but luckily for you, the reliable deputy sheriff of Archersvale is willing to let you join the investigation as a consultant; interestingly enough, the deputy is also your childhood rival.

Matthew/Mathena Archer

As fiery and passionate as their red hair, M has been your best friend since the two of you met in middle school. People always said it was like the two of you were joined at the hip, and they weren’t wrong; it’s been a case of “where one goes, the other follows” for as long as you could remember. But being practically joined at the hip wasn't the only reason why they joined you in moving to the big city; they were also an up-and-coming singer-songwriter, launched to fame with the help of the internet. Unfortunately, their family staunchly believed they just had their head in the clouds and wouldn't get anywhere in life, which meant that they had spent many nights over at your house. Well, after nine years, two self-released albums, and nearly a million fans, you can say without a doubt that M is talented and hard-working enough to make their dreams come true.

Matthew (or Matty, as you also call him) has short red hair with such unruly curls that he uses a cute bandana when he writes songs at home, a fact he has shared with a photo on his social media; a minute after posting the pic, he became a trending topic online which lasted for weeks. His eyes are a vibrant shade of green that light up when he’s having the time of his life and dull when he feels his world crumbling around him. His skin is fair and dotted with freckles, especially across his nose, from hours of performing under the sun in Archersvale Park. He also has a lean physique that he maintains by jogging in the wee hours of the morning but often hides away with his signature oversized hoodies.

Mathena (or Mattie, as you also call her) often keeps her long red hair out of her face in a variety of ways, which are each tied to what she'll be doing in the near future; her default hairstyle is the simple yet effective ponytail for any regular activity like grocery shopping, but she braids her hair when she goes out to perform at a gig, and when she puts it up in a bun, you know that she's going to spend the next few hours writing lyrics and humming a string of tunes to herself. Her eyes are a vibrant shade of green that light up when she’s having the time of her life and dull when she feels her world crumbling around her. Her skin is fair and dotted with freckles, especially across her nose, from hours of performing under the sun in Archersvale Park. She also has a fit physique that she maintains by jogging in the wee hours of the morning but often hides away with her signature oversized hoodies.

Delfín/Delfína Castañeda

The very definition of tall, dark, and alluring, D was your rival from the moment they laid eyes on you when they entered your fifth grade classroom at Archersvale High. The two of you were always tied at the top, seemingly much to D’s irritation based on how they would instantly scowl whenever your gaze met theirs. As far as rivals go, D wasn’t that bad, all things considered; they never tried to harm you during Physical Ed, sabotage you when you had to represent the school at official competitions, or accuse you of cheating on exams and assignments, though they did throw many snide remarks at you and M throughout those years. The last time you saw D was on the day of your high school graduation when they gave the valedictorian speech. It was a very moving speech, but it wasn’t their words that stuck with you; it was the way they kept glancing at you with a frown that almost seemed … conflicted.

Delfín surprises you when you first see him again after almost ten years, sporting his wavy dark brown hair in a casual quiff, which is quite the contrast to your childhood days when he kept his hair slicked back all the time. His dark brown eyes seem to have lost the competitive glint they used to have every time they met yours, but the passion you always saw in them whenever he was determined or enthusiastic about something hasn’t diminished at all. Premise

Ædric is known throughout the kingdom as the Dark Prince, not just because of his ebony black hair, but also because of his unsociable disposition. While it is true that his deep violet eyes and usual scowl can be intimidating, he has been nothing but kind to you in all the years that you have known him. Sometimes you would catch him looking at you with a small smile on his face, but he would always deny it ever happened.

You have known Cyfrin your entire life, and your father has known him for even longer, given that he discovered your best friend on the doorstep of your home when he was just a baby. Even though he is the older one between you two, he often trails behind you like a duckling following its mother when his break times align with yours. When you first arrive at the Glade !

Intro

Suddenly, your eyes jolt open and you taking your surroundings. you were in some sort of rusty elevator. It’s shaking and creaking, while it’s moving up at a rapid pace. Your breathed picked up because you had no clue where you were or where you were going. your eyes tear up. take some deep breaths to try and ease them away, but upon closing your eyes, silent tears trickle down your cheeks.

Bang. The elevator or whatever it was stopped moving upon hitting something

you look up and see the Sun, but all of a sudden the enclosure opens and the roof swings wide. You flinch at the harsh light, blinking trying to get your eyes to adjust to it. you look up to see about forty adolescent boys looking down upon you. You creep back into a corner overwhelmed by everything that just happened, all of a sudden a loud you heard a loud Thud. and felt the elevator shake. You look up and see an older boy looking down at you with his hand out stretched towards you “Hey there”

Gally

You look up and see an older boy looking down at you with his hand outstretched towards you “Hey there greenie, naps over, get your ass up”

When you locked eyes with the boy above you, he flinched. “it's a girl” he announced while looking between you and the crowd of boys up above. You finally look at the boy who came into the box with you. He’s got a stern looking face, the longer you look at it, the more softens while looking at you.

“Your safe, we just need to get you out of here” he said while he leaned down to grab your hand. With one big tug you were standing on your feet and basically in his arms. leaned in closer towards your ear and whispered “Now when we get up don’t listen to anything those shanks say. Because they will say something.”

With that he jumped back up to the surface and pulled you up with him. As he said, when you got up there all the boys started to talk about you.

“it’s a girl” “I wonder what she’s here for” “the hell” “why is a girl here” “she’s kind of p- “

“Quit it now, you shanks. Now don’t be talking about her like she’s not here. And i believe I did not hear one of y'all call her pretty. He looks over to you “sorry about that. It's ruff in here. But let me introduce you to everyone, then we will start your tour around the Glade” He gently grabbed your arm and started walking over towards a group of three boys.

“These are the people in charge around here. This is Alby, he is the leader here. This shank is Newt, he is Alby's second in command. Then we have Minho. He is The Keeper of the Runners. Then I'm Gally, in the Keeper of the Builders.”

Then with that Gally started to lead you around and tell you what everything was and what is happening here. He even gave you some type of drink. It was

Thomas

You look up and see an older boy looking down at you with his hand outstretched towards you “Hey there”

You look up to see a boy with big hazel eyes looking down at you. Starting to get up he lets out a yelp. “It a girl” he said while looking up to a boy with dirty blond hair. Shifting his head back to look at you. He gives you a smile. “Let's get you out of here greenie. I'm happy I get to call you that. I was the last one to come up before you”. With that you nervously grabbed his hand.

He pulled you up to your feet. Looking up you saw the bright blue sky and a bunch of boys looking down upon you. They all were in awe. They had never (as long as they can remember) seen a girl before.

“what's their problem” you mumble to yourself but the boy right next to you hears you complain. “Don't mind them. They are all a bit weird” he says in a laugh. “But the short curly haired one that's chuck. He is like my little brother. Then we have Newt and Minho.” He said while pointing at two boys. One of them had blonde hair the other had dark brown hair. “Then we have this shank.” he said in a low whisper “his name is Gally, but you don't have to even think about him”

You laughed at that. He gave you a small smile in return. “Then I'm Thomas also Alby is around here somewhere you will meet him soon. Now that you know some people how bout we get you out of this nasty box and into the place with we think clean air”

With that Thomas made his way out of the box and then turned around to help you out of the box also. When you got out you were overwhelmed by the about of people that were actually looking at you. Feeling a bit overwhelmed but you felt someone put a hand on your back and kind of push you though them all. Once you get away from the crowd you turn and see Thomas. He gives you a smirk.

“I saw you about to pass out. You need to get out of their before you did.” He brought you to a log to sit on a chill out. “You can meet everyone tonight at the bonfire. When you are okay with walking, I can give you a tour around the glade.” And with that he sat down next to you and just waited till you were okay.

Newt

You hear someone say “Hey there”

But you don't look up. You are so overwhelmed by everything that just happened. Are in the corner of the box hugging yourself. You feel a hand lay on your shoulder; you peck out of the corner of your eye. You see a boy. He is blond and has a kind face.

“It's okay doll” You look up to see the blond boy again. This time though he is on your level. On his knees right next to you. Giving you a small smile he says “Come on its just going to get worse if you stay in here. Come out into the fresh air.”

With that you stand up to your feet with his help. You finally look above you and see all the boys looking down at you from above. You freeze. “As I said before it’s okay, let’s just get you out of the box before you freak out” The blond boy whispers into your ear.

With that he gets himself out of the box then helps you out of it. When you finally get out of it you hear the people around you start to talk

“it’s a girl” “why is she here” “what is she doing here”

“let’s get you someplace quiet” the boy said when he saw you start to freak out again. He brought you to a tower of some sort. He went up them gestured for you to follow along. You did. When you reached the top, you saw him looking around at everyone and everything he could see. “This place my be weird but once you get used to it, it becomes home”. He said while still looking at the things below him.

Turning to face you he says “I’m Newt, one of the people in charge around here. Once you have relaxed a little bit, I can give you a tour around the glade.”

A small smile crosses over your face, and you nod your head. “I would like that” you say.

“Okay then” he quips. “Then tonight at the bonfire I can introduce you to everyone and what goes on around here”

Minho

You look up and see an older boy looking down at you with his hand outstretched towards you “Hey there”

The boy with his hand outstretched had sticking-up black hair that was styled perfectly with a bright blue shirt. You looked at the man hovering above you, he looked strong and well build. His face was, well his face was just pretty.

You snapped out of it and finally grabbed his hand. He pulled you up to your feet in just a tug. Stumbling from the quick motion you fell into him. He quickly grabs your shoulders, stabilizing you. “Be careful, greenie” he whispered into your ear.

“But we do need to get out of here” He states “and I promise out there in the glade is a bit better than in here”

Looking up at him and nodded. and with that he took your hand in his again and helped you exit the elevator.

You hear people murmur around you when you are helped out of the box.

“it’s a girl” “omg she’s the first” “what is she doing here” “she’s really pretty” and so on

“it’s okay, just breathe darling” You did not even realize you had staggered breathing till he said something. It did not help when you finally looked around and saw all eyes on you

“Hey, look at me. Not them.” The boy tried to get your attention but to no avail and you were still breathing heavily. Looking about again but this time you looked at the walls surrounding you. They were ginormous and the more you looked at them the taller they got.

You hear the boy talking but cannot understand because you are overwhelmed with the environment that you were just brought into. but he said something that caught your attention, “Minho, my name is Minho. The blonde over there is newt, And the big scary looking fella is Gally. So, what is your name”

“. “ You couldn’t remember. You do not know what is your name is, you don’t know why you are here. you couldn’t even get a vowel to escape from your throat. you couldn’t think.

“That’s okay if you do not remember right knowing. It will come to you soon. Now how about we give you a tour around the Glade to try and chill your nerves” With that they boy named Minho lead the way and showed you around the glade and explained everything

I'm Still Thinking About Ships and Zervis After All These Years

HAH! You thought I was just hating on Juvia for no reason with my last one. (It wasn’t even that bad.)

Nope!

This is a series of things I want to do. I hope you don't mind that this is the second time to date I've reused this intro. Honestly, this might be one of my favorite intros to any post. The only one that tops it is starting with the conclusion in another post. (You know the one.)

Even then, this post has a special place in my heart. Over the past [EIGHT] years I've been on this blog, I've had to talk a lot about the ships. Part of it is willingly entering certain discussions. Part of it was ending up in the middle of certain fights. (I've learned not to pick fights with people.) This was my first real foray into talking about the ships to a meaningful length.

Overall, I've come to realize that Tumblr is a very ship-heavy site. Much of the discussions involving any series or topic involve ships. I used to think this was only Fairy Tail fans, but a lot of people have these issues. Almost every moderately active fandom on Tumblr has a vibrant (note: not necessarily healthy) emphasis on shipping. For what it's worth, Fairy Tail has also had its fair share of shipping wars.

So I've heard.

I don't have the same horror stories that so many other people have. I started this blog near the time that the series was ended. A lot of the shipping drama was long settled. A few months into starting this blog, there was some drama caused by some Graylu shipper who was causing beef with the Gruvia fandom. But a lot of the back-and-forth with shipping didn't affect me when I made the original post.

And then, there was the University of Gruvia.

I have to be careful when describing this, especially considering the number of people I know involved with this on both sides. I want to provide a fair assessment of this. Especially being on my side of the Gruvia debate. Luckily, I've done this several times for Gruvia already.

There was a desire among Gruvia fans to share love and information involving the ship with others. This was to manifest itself in a fan university of sorts with fan experts and actual teachers working to educate fans. Concerns came from two different places. Some fans were worried that this would cause more fights with people who didn't agree with them. I was part of the fans who thought that other shipping fandoms should get some shine and recognition first.

If you haven't heard about the University of Gruvia, that's because it didn't get off the ground. Part of it was because another group of fans set up a parody University of Graylu. There were some disputes over fans signing up for one to set the other up. The details were handled outside of my sphere.

Two big things came from it, as far as I'm concerned. I did get called out as a salty Graytear fan by some Gruvia shippers. Even though I didn't particularly hate the idea at the time. I just wanted a week for Albis. (Another rant for another day) My rationale was that whatever arguments Gruvia fans would come up with would become so mainstream it would be easy to deal with the fandom, by knocking out the ideas all at once. I still stand by that, though I get the concern others had about empowering toxic fans.

That leads to the second. I've become averse to talking about the ship. I'll talk about Nalu for any reason I feel like it. I don't handle Gruvia the same way. I am more careful not to do a lot to piss Gruvia fans off. I've noticed that the Gruvia fandom is very protective of the ship from people who disagree. (Occasionally to ironic results.) Fairy Tail is the only series in which I have a relationship with the ships I do. You all know me for not loving the big ships and being involved in smaller ships for characters. I still get kudos and comments on a story involving Laxus and Juvia, of all pairings. A lot of the appeal of the ships I don't like is lost on me. I can make arguments for them, but I don't buy any of it.

However, Fairy Tail is the only series where this is the case. I've mentioned liking Naruhina and Ichihime. But those are fairly popular among fans of their respective series. At the very least, the majority of the fandom knows why people like them. Every once in a while, a series will come where I don't love the main ships. Like, I don't love most of the big ships in RWBY, but I get why people like them. Fairy Tail is the only series where I'm actively going against the grain, in regards to shipping.

Unlike that other post about Juvia, I don't have much to say about my opinions changing. Most of what I said in that post is what I feel about the ships in general now. Like whatever you want and don't be shocked if some crazy stuff ends up becoming canon.

Though, I do need to talk about the other focus of this post. When the original post came out, it wasn't too long after chapter 450. If you don't remember, that was the chapter that confirmed a previous relationship between Zervis. While I already intended to talk about the ships as my next topic, it felt perfect to use Zervis as the lens to talk about ships.

It's not an understatement to say that fandom was going ballistic at the time. A lot of people following me probably weren't fans of the series when these chapters came out. You need to understand that, before the Alvarez Empire arc, Zervis was mere speculation. It was an idea based on one chapter of the main series and a few interactions during ZERO. Like much of Mashima's work, it makes sense in hindsight. However, this wasn't a ship taken seriously by fans until it became canon.

Honestly, I'd argue that fans made it a bigger deal than it probably needed to be because of their history. This isn't on Mashima for revealing it as late as he did. It made sense to reveal what happened between them when he did.

Take a step back and think about how much Zervis matters. No doubt, it's an important connection between two of the most influential characters in the series. It also serves as a driving force for the last arc of the series. Its resolution (somewhat?) redeems one of the main villains of the series. I will not deny any of those things.

But let's compare this to Jerza. Jellal and Erza are more influential characters. The connection between them is shown for longer in the series, both before and after the Alvarez Empire arc. This isn't even noting the ways that their relationship, directly and indirectly, affects the main events of numerous arcs. The romance between the two has been far better built up to what we see now in the sequel.

And this isn't even to mention the most important relationship in the series: Nalu. I'm not going to call it a romantic masterpiece. However, this isn't the first time I've noted that their relationship makes Fairy Tail what it is as a series. Nearly everything that happens in the series happens because these two work together. That's before we go into how either of them is either directly or indirectly involved in and/or responsible for major events in every arc.

One unfortunate thing that has become a point of discussion has been the potential claims of pedophilia on the ship. I dealt with this idea in rewriting Fairy Tail, but I want to repeat myself quickly. As I interpret the ship, Mashima's done too much to make the ship feel skeevy. Still, I don't think the ship is pedophilic.

In Conclusion:

Shipping is fun, but their fandoms can be crazy. Please enjoy both responsibly.

Also, don't ask me about the Zervis age gap.

I write about The Maze Runner and Terraria although this blog is central around TMR. I always write in bookverse for my Maze Runner fics so if you're not a fan of that, my blog will probably not be for you.

My favourite character from The Maze Runner is pretty tricky to figure out... I love them all in their own special way (including Teresa, there's no Teresa slander on this blog). I haven't done much this past month, especially considering the new game that Alby and I released taking up literally every second of free time that I had during the entire month of October.

Needless to say, I have no major updates on my games. Although...

I got covid last week, actually! If you know and follow ST4RDOM's account, you likely already know this.

For the sake of my mind, I'll copy and paste what I wrote that's relevant to this:

This is actually my first time getting covid, or at least testing positive. It hit me really hard (like I was close to 104°F, which is 40°C) and I swear for three entire days I was just sleeping. It's been exactly a week since I felt those symptoms, and though I am still testing positive I feel much better and more in the mood to write! Though I can't say I have done much on ST4RDOM 😅 I was working on another project of mine just yesterday (which was my first time actually touching my computer ever since I got sick and writing), and I nearly fell asleep doing so lol

I still have brain fog, also. It wasn't in this quote, but I have brain fog thanks to covid and unfortunately I still have it, so progress on ATOL and all other games will be slower than normal until I can get my brain rebooted.

So I haven't done much, other than coding and writing this upcoming project of mine (which is listed in the masterpost lol). I first created the first draft back in January and just recently I've upgraded the UI and rewritten parts of the prologue. Which was yesterday.

Sweet! Now it's further ahead than ST4RDOM, which I literally created an account for because I thought I was going to have that game done soon. (Though I already had the original prologue, so all I'm doing is revamping it 😅)

Anyways, this game was originally meant to be my MAIN main game; the one I am meant to throw every coding skill I know into it. So I think that is why.
