I am Italian and this is the only article about Louis' festival I found for now. It says there were "more than 8,000 people" and absolutely nothing about the performances. I think he thought there would be more people because he thought about last year, but last year's concert was within a big summer months-long festival (I went to see Green Days in June, for example) and that helped immensely, also being in Milan helped. This was a stand-alone event in a once-famous venue in a small town and relied only on Louis himself (it says it was "mostly girls, all there for Tomlinson"). [I'll send the translation made by Google in a new ask]
www lanazione it/viareggio/cultura/louis-tomlinson-concerto-tfmfs3xe
The translation: "Lido di Camaiore, 20 August 2023 – There were more than 8 thousand spectators who crowded the lawn of the Bussoladomani park, in Lido di Camaiore, on Saturday evening for the Away From Home Festival, closed by the star Louis Tomlinson. For the former One Direction member, fans from all over the world, even from Mexico and Canada, and there are those who have waited in front of the gates with sleeping bags and tents even since August 7, twelve days before, just to be among the first to enter and be able to stop under the stage, so as to enjoy the show from a unique position. The vast majority of the audience were girls, all there for Tomlinson. The event began in the afternoon and continued until midnight in an open area where great pop music was all the rage in the 70s in the former Bussoladomani tent theater, which hosted the biggest pop music stars in the world and also a historic event such as Mina's last live concert, back in 1978, before becoming a real home for Renato Zero, who held many unforgettable concerts here. Then for years, after the demolition of the marquee, the degradation and abandonment until the reconstitution of a beautiful park right on the seafront, on the northern border of Lido di Camaiore. Space that the historic promoters D'Alessandro and Galli, the "wizards" of the Lucca Summer Festival, have taken over and revived thanks to important names: only this year have Jamiroquai and Lana Del Rey seen each other and in September it will be of the Chemical Brothers. A sign that the degradation is not irreversible: you just need to want it and invest and the results will come."
****
Thank you for this! Only 8k people out of a possible 30k! Flop festival.

Fearghal & Kaitlin
Fearghal: [So the setup is sending her a postcard pretending to be a mate visiting in England for whatever reason (could be fam you get the vibe, nothing suspect given the time this is) but giving enough info that she 1. Knows it is him 2. has the number of at least a phonebox nearby if not a phone in his care home 3. a time when he plans to first call the phonebox nearest their home in Ireland, assumedly this is some sneaky twin shit they've pulled similar enough before that she can catch on without any of the rest of the fam also doing so; only question is how long do we want it to be since he left?] Kaitlin: [3 months ish later then and they've turned 15 but only just for our ref how do we think the situation is with his dad etc like would he just be acting like he's dead cos is to him?] Fearghal: [basically my vibe was they wanted to weaponize Tabby killing herself for their gain, like make it something political even though literally not about that bar the fact her family and his family and co didn't want them together and she was a dramatic teenage girl in love (no offense but like) and so when he wouldn't go along with that there was a massive fight, actual, between him and his dad and then Fearghal left 'cos there's never any option but to do as your told with this fam and he can't lose face with all the other people etc etc and the story the dad is telling the fam etc is that Fearghal deserted them which not untrue but yeah, good enough for all the olders to disown him too so it'd be like we don't talk about him and if someone else bring him up you denounce him] Kaitlin: [let's say there's a crying baby in the background cos like in my OG post she can use her youngest sister needing fresh air as an excuse so casually left her outside the phonebox but might be able to hear her if she's going for it] Kaitlin: How ya Fearghal: K? Fuck's sake, you've not had a bastard, have ya? 's'not been that long, like Kaitlin: Catch yourself on! mind how ya ma was fit to drop, you eejit? well we're all lurred she had another girl who I'm hauling about as my cover, so I am Fearghal: [Laughs] Still easy to windup then [slight pause to take in that it's a girl and is here, like not the biggest shock but also literally no way of knowing at this time so] And go on, don't leave me in suspense, what name they burden the poor fucker with Kaitlin: [makes an unimpressed noise like fuck off] full of that good craic you are, bet the brits are buzzing to hear it. You ready? Niamh Roisin, it's a cracker, like [sighs] Fearghal: [laughs some more] Yeah, catch me on that most wanted list, obviously [makes a wincing noise like no] Christ, actually lost it fully then, has she? Made it longer than some but dunno if mentals get to heaven, haveta ask Father Quigley, like Kaitlin: [laughs herself] yeah yeah [makes like a idk noise] can you lose what you've never had? A good catholic'll find a way, to be sure, and she is that, our ma [makes a scornful noise at the mention of the priest as is standard for her] Fearghal: [makes a mm noise to agree] Suppose so, don't reckon much was said 'bout being good to 'em once you had 'em, so be alright [sighs] What have you been up to, then...How's it been Kaitlin: if it was she'd recite between the lines to keep us anyone's problem but hers, poor critter [sarcastic laugh because mum's getting no real sympathy] it could've been 3 days from when you went off for what's changed and not- [a long pause because everything's shit and we know it is] Fearghal: What's God if not top babysitter, eh? Cheaper than telly and who's giving money to the BBC [scoffs but cuts it short 'cos yep] And I'm fine too, you rude cow Kaitlin: and stand him next to our earthly da and he comes out lookin' class [chefs kiss noise] Hey now! [makes a fake noise of shock like she's appalled at the mention of the bbc] watch your profanity around me, dicko! [really long exaggerated sigh as a pisstake] a'course you are, land well anywhere, but hit me with your bars, it's no bother to hear how right I am Fearghal: If you can get him stand still long enough, like and you ain't a lad so no chance, babe [does pisstake wistful sigh] Forgot you needed protecting from the evils of this world, my apologies [coughs awkwardly then, stalling for time, fiddling with the phone in ways she can probably hear] Taking a bow as we speak, can't fit in here with me but the adoring fans are aplenty over this way, well more than there so fuck it, life's grand so it is Kaitlin: Wise up, boy, he only sways slightly of an evening on these ones lately so he does [but her voice is MAD because fuck being a girl in this fam] Did you now? Thank fuck my new lad has his uses then, like [takes a deep breath to try and calm down but exaggerates it for the pisstake because have to, god forbid they are serious rn] I went and saw your former biggest fan under that rock they've carved with protestant shite, no word on if life's grander for her now it's ended or if she's regretting she didn't send her prayers up saying she wanted another bite of the cherry, one that wasn't yours- [stops like I've probably gone a bit far here and shouldn't mention his dead ex anymore] Fearghal: Good for him [through gritted teeth like let's never talk about him thank you] Like you need a replacement protector, got how many ready and willing at home, just DYING to beat the shit out of some 15 year old kid for your honour and just for the craic of it [does it back, like and then is silent until the pips are going but he's still there 'cos they stop when he puts more money in] You'll be under some rock with Catholic shite if they catch you in their graveyard [says it much more quietly than he's said the rest] Kaitlin: [makes a noise of disgust that doesn't need to be exaggerated for the pisstake cos genuinely horrified at this fam thanks] what honour? Shame you brought down on us with what they caught you at [but her voice is softer too because didn't mean to go off and also doesn't mean any of that we know] supposed to scare me, is it? [said like I wouldn't be here to give them a chance to do it just like you weren't] Fearghal: Why you need to ask one of the others, ain't it; can't be the best looking of the bunch and the best behaved, got to leave something for 'em to do and impressing n pleasing him 's'never been high on my to-do so have at it, lads [does meh noise like this is all so casual] Called the fear of God for a reason, aye Kaitlin: [does the meh noise back and it's her turn to awkwardly fiddle with the phone/cough while she works up to saying what she does next, more quietly than she has anything else] how's it truly then? Away and everything. Free and clear Fearghal: It's, like- just shit because you realize that everything that happens in that fucking town, all the stuff that rules our lives and is all they give a shit about, no other cunt does, you know, Kait? Sure, its on the news when another bomb goes off or don't and that; but the English don't even have to think about it, their day to day ain't affected at all, no fucker but our lot cares and what's the point, honestly? Everything we were forced to at least think was important, if not fecking stupid, ain't and now I don't- [Stops to do some actual breathing to calm down] Not to mention I'm thick as shite, thanks for that and all- 'cos frees a bloody joke [laughs bitterly] I get by, now, got a place to stay so, don't haveta worry but don't be hopping the next ferry yourself, girl Kaitlin: [when you're just silent for ages because as much as you think it's bullshit you're basically in a cult rn with no chance of getting out so what can you say like] not that thick, warning me off coming to keep an eye on all these english girls with theirs on ya but no bother 'cause mind I get sea sick and class as boking on brits sounds I'd get fairly covered myself before I made any casualties of 'em Fearghal: Know enough about girls and enough about you to know the two don't need mixing, that's just school of life, that [moving away a bit and telling someone who's impatiently waiting to fuck off] Stay put [when you say it firmly like serious voice] That wain and the rest needs someone VAGUELY sane about to stand any chance, fuck me, Aislinn's already been corrupted and she's barely in double digits [kicks the box] Kaitlin: [laughs because yeah don't let her around any girls you like babe] you should know enough about me to know what giving me your orders'll do fer ya and what it'll make me do [but there's no actual real threat in it we all know she's staying for the bubs] Sane as you by that count, ain't I? [can't help genuinely sighing] Mammy's girl is Aislinn been like it since she was old enough to play house [grimaces at the thought cos never that bitch] got the rest under MY apron strings, grand they are and it goes for the stories I tell 'em every night after prayers, rest easy yourself knowing that, yeah? Fearghal: Alright, alright [hear the 🙄] But if you wanna be the next to bring shame on 'em, you can do better than a cheeky abortion, surely? [shakes his head] Yeah. [Pause] Yeah [Coughs again] I'm doing my bit, swear, it's gonna take a while 'til I can send you anything and I've got to work out how when I do- it ain't for them, just you lot but like I said, not cheap Kaitlin: [an outraged noise like who do you think you're talking to, of course I can do better than that etc] Yeah. [Pauses herself because again what to say, there's so much it's too much] I've got faith in the right shite, Gally [nickname ftw because feels] it'll work out. We'll work it out, like we did this Fearghal: 'Course we will, K. No other choice, is there [definitely not a question] Kaitlin: not a real question, is it? [she knows its not] Fearghal: you want me to ask you one? Kaitlin: do English girls fall for that? Fearghal: Enough of 'em, yeah Kaitlin: [makes a ugh noise] how you've got a bed, is it? Fearghal: Theirs top where mine is Kaitlin: I deeply feel that Fearghal: [makes the kinda sad 'ha' sound like 'I know'] Not all bad though, some class drugs about and you don't get kneecapped for taking a casual interest Kaitlin: [does a little hooray down the phone] Fearghal: Send you some but your phones probably tapped so I definitely won't Kaitlin: thanks or no thanks, depending who'll be listening Fearghal: Cover those bases and the baby's ears Kaitlin: nothing to be heard over her crying Fearghal: don't lie, you miss me that much [laughs] Kaitlin: fuck off [but laughs too] Fearghal: Will do Fearghal: so many English girls Kaitlin: [exaggerated being sick noise] nowhere close to a ferry and sick as a dog, don't start me any further Fearghal: You think I escaped to pray every day and fight the good fight, like Kaitlin: if you still pray you ain't escaped fuck all Fearghal: Not living on my knees for no cunt, sis Fearghal: am being haunted, for my sins, though Kaitlin: Be on track to commit more, you'll have enough ghosts for all manner of shite to get done Fearghal: No rest for the wicked on the one hand, but on the other, idle hands and idle minds [breathes out like so conflicted and confused] Kaitlin: [a change in tone because serious] She's gone, so are you. Leave it here. Leave it in this fucking town Fearghal: Not a choice Kaitlin: Can be Fearghal: Nah, s'not, boths already happened Kaitlin: Happened to you, gives you a say in how you deal with it Fearghal: Yeah Kaitlin: You've lived in one haunted house as things stand, ain't you? Miss home that much, is it? Fearghal: How could I not? Live for these lectures, like Kaitlin: [an unamused noise because you're basically calling her a nagging girl which ain't a mood] Fearghal: [the pips again] Oh shit, should robably let you go, yeah? Kaitlin: Yeah probably [but she obvs doesn't wanna that'd be clear] Fearghal: Tell the kids I miss 'em, won't ya Kaitlin: I'll even include her out there Fearghal: Try and send a picture some time, alright Kaitlin: 'Course Fearghal: You too, kid Kaitlin: [laughs but in a more genuine way] You're my twin brother, calling me kid is calling yourself a wain, you eejit Fearghal: That's alright by me, like Kaitlin: I'll not baby you, got enough noses and arses to wipe here while you're hand holding these brits Fearghal: No handholding, on me life, just good old-fashioned- [will cut him off before he can be gross] Kaitlin: [we can say she cuts him off with a very unamused noise as per like no thank you] Fearghal: G'wan then, piss off before that kid freezes to death Kaitlin: [doesn't wanna be the first one to hang up obvs] Watch yourself then Fearghal: You too Fearghal: When can we do this again then Kaitlin: When can you? It's no bother for me to slip out with this ginger whinger, needs fresh air so she does Fearghal: [laughs then is pondering like umm] Try next Sunday, after church, if I don't answer then I'll send another postcard or whatever, yeah Kaitlin: Tryin' to get a free sermon told to ya, respect that hustle if not the message Fearghal: Obviously, how am I getting to heaven from England? Kaitlin: [laughs] no angels in England is there not? You'll have been thinking on your feet for fresh pick up lines all these months, no wonder you ain't had time for me, like Fearghal: Something like that... [Trails off 'cos don't wanna tell her what's really been going on but also does 'cos not its like that and its been a lot to just deal with on his own] Kaitlin: But it's something else like what? [cos sees through you boyyy] Fearghal: It's alright now, like Fearghal: but it ain't as if the old man sent me on me way with anywhere to go, is it Kaitlin: He didn't put a bullet in your head as a send off, that's what gets me to sleep of a night, but- [trails off because she was gonna say she knows it hasn't been easy but she doesn't know how hard it's been and she's not trying to guess like let's compare struggles] Kaitlin: Yeah [another pause] Fearghal: Should've put one in his [so under his breath it's like did you mean that to be heard or] Kaitlin: You'd have to take ma out an' all, I don't reckon the broken heart myth is anything other than another story, and probably a few of us would make the cut for cute little orphans but you and me'd have to catch ourselves on quick and wise up Fearghal: Make Tara look after you all as well as Diarmaid's kids, see how committed to the family she really is [sniffs 'cos we been knew] Kaitlin: [makes an identical sound cos twinning] I'll take her out if she was bothered to try and get near 'em Fearghal: Least Owie is old enough to help out, young enough to give a clout, yeah? [genuine concern] Kaitlin: [scoffs because we know he's a bit of a knob but it's still affectionate because] Fearghal: He'll be alright [but doesn't sound as reassuring as that's meant to be 'cos like unlikely at this point] Kaitlin: He's got me, my will's stronger than god's so father Q likes to say [laughs] under his breath, a'course Fearghal: [laughs back but its less 'cos sad] He doesn't always chat shite Kaitlin: Reckon he's a soft spot for me Fearghal: [makes noise like 'hopefully not too soft' but is joking, doesn't need to be that kind of priest] Kaitlin: I don't wish you were here Fearghal: How could he not, with the charm [but just jk like] Is it better, in some ways Kaitlin: It's...[trails off cos we all know even if there's less hassle it's not better as far as she's concerned and the loneliness is a real mood] I'm buzzing you got out [genuine but her voice is sad] Fearghal: Your turn next, I mean it Kaitlin: After we get a few birthday's under Niamh's belt [pauses because it's sinking in how stuck she is for now] and the rest, give 'em a fighting chance Fearghal: Yeah Fearghal: I'll make it easier, any which way I can Kaitlin: Me too, for you, I mean Fearghal: I'm grand, honest but cheers [more pips] I am outta shrapnel though so- Kaitlin: Don't be putting honest on a lie [frustrated sigh because nobody wants this to end but she wouldn't have money] speak Sunday and like I said, watch yourself Fearghal: Love ya, K ['cos no time to take the piss for it or protest] Kaitlin: [let's say she gets cut off before she can say it back for the pain]

Nick Turchiaro-USA TODAY
Leafs Offseason Recap
After another disappointing end to the season and failing to make it out of the first round again after holding a 3-1 series lead, the Leafs have slowly started to arrive in Toronto ahead of training camp Monday. Typically after playoff disappointments the last few years, there has been optimism among Leafs Nation at the start of a new season, but there is a sense of skepticism this time around, and for good reason. We’ve all heard the players and management give the cliché answers throughout the summer about another disappointing exit, but Leaf fans have grown tired of hearing them and only care about one thing – GETTING OUT OF THE FIRST ROUND. Having said that, and before I dive into the offseason recap and season preview, the media needs to stop asking the same questions for months on end and fans over on social media need to settle the fuck down with attacking Matthews, Marner and Nylander. It’s been four months since game 7, let it go already and let these guys get ready for this season. Yes, they didn’t perform well in the playoffs, and yes, I know they’re professional athletes in one of the biggest markets in the world and should be able to block it out, but how would you keyboard warriors feel opening social media apps every day constantly reading the same crap for 4 months? Y’all need to go outside.
Now that that’s out of the way, we saw the capped strapped Leafs do what they did last year this offseason and look for bargain deals and take chances on players that have underperformed in the hopes of finding a diamond in the rough, while saying goodbye to fan and player favourites alike. I won’t be providing many stats or analytics here, just using the good ole eye test.
Out:
Frederik Andersen
Joe Thornton
Zach Hyman
Zach Bogosian
Alex Galchenyuk
Nick Foligno
Riley Nash
As much as Freddy provided stability between the pipes since he joined the team 5 years ago, the last couple years have seen him become unpredictable and he hasn’t been able to steal a game in the playoffs like so many great goalies do. Not only was he unable to do that, but in the big moments like, say, a game 7, there was always that backbreaking, “should’ve had it” goal. A fan favourite from the time he got here, but due to cap issues and the emergence of Jack Campbell, it was best for both sides to move on.
Unfortunately, another cap casualty was everyone’s favourite Zach Hyman. Do I wish the Leafs could have kept him, absolutely, but with his growing list of injuries and the size of the contract he wanted (and deserved) I am kind of glad the cap prevented us from resigning him. It’s been weird seeing him in Oilers colours on social media, but we wish him nothing but the best out west.
I’m glad Keefe is no longer handcuffed with Jumbo Joe taking up a 4th line spot instead of playing a young guy like Brooks that can keep up in today’s league, particularly in the playoffs. The Leafs were keen on resigning Bogo, and I would have loved to see him stay – he was great on the back end all season, but due to covid restrictions, he chose to go chase another cup with Tampa. I would’ve also liked to see what Gally could’ve done with a full training camp and a fulltime spot in the top 6, I thought he performed well. Given he’s still unsigned, never say never. As for Foligno and Nash, they didn’t do much for us, they were hurt most of their time here.
In:
Petr Mrazek
Michael Bunting
Kurtis Gabriel
Nick Ritchie
David Kampf
Ondrej Kase
Josh Ho-Sang (PTO)
Nikita Gusev (PTO)
Getting to the new faces, I like the signings of Ritchie and Kase. Ritchie brings some much needed size to the top 6 and will also take on some of the work that Hyman did in getting Matthews and Marner or Tavares and Nylander the puck. Should that be where Keefe chooses to play him as he isn’t the fleetest of foot and has only averaged over 15 minutes/game once in his career. Expect the Leafs to spend a little more time on the penalty kill though as he tends to take some bad penalties. Kase on the other hand, was a 20 goal scorer just 3 years ago, but has been ravaged by injuries since and has been battling concussion issues most recently. Hopefully the most expensive and comprehensive medical team in the league can help in his recovery.
Dubas and Co are taking a massive chance on Michael Bunting, thankfully it’s for less than a million each season, in the hopes that he can continue his late bloom. Last season he scored 10 goals in 21 games with Arizona and has 11 goals in 26 NHL games so far. I don’t know much about him, so I don’t think it’s fair for me to say this signing has bust written all over it, this is more of a wait and see situation. At the very least, he can be a serviceable third/fourth liner at cost.
Speaking of third and fourth liners, David Kampf and Kurtis Gabriel were brought in as depth signings as well. Kampf gives the Leafs some added center depth and could allow them to move Kerfoot to the wing. The only two things I know about Gabriel are that he isn’t afraid to throw with anyone and that off the ice he is one of the best humanitarians in the game at making the game more inclusive and accessible for everyone.
Josh Ho-Sang and Nikita Gusev will both be joining the Leafs at camp on Professional Try-Outs, which I don’t mind. Ho-Sang was a highly touted prospect but has never been able to find his footing in the NHL. Gusev came over from Russia a few years ago and hasn’t really been able to adjust to NHL either. Both are low risk and could provide some added depth on the wings for the Leafs.
Onto the biggest fish the Leafs landed this summer in Petr Mrazek. The Leafs wanted to give Campbell a chance to be a number 1 and have a guy in Mrazek that is used to/comfortable in running a tandem setup. One of the similarities I’ve noticed between him and Campbell, is that when they are in a scramble, they do anything possible to get themselves in front of the puck to make a save. They have the instinct and athleticism to forget about technique and getting square in order to make saves. It’s something that appeared to be difficult for Freddy at times, like he would get himself caught between being unorthodox and trying to stay in technique. Both Campbell and Mrazek are streaky so let’s hope one of them is hot at all times and can both stay healthy. Given this is going to be more of a tandem than we have seen in years past, I would expect Keefe to ride the hot hand, even on back-to-backs.
Two guys that could challenge for spots upfront are 2019 second rounder Nick Robertson and undrafted free agent Alex Steeves. Robertson has had very brief stints with the Leafs the last couple seasons, and had an injury riddled shortened season last year. It doesn’t look like it hurt his development though as he was a star at Leafs’ development camp last weekend. Steeves was also a standout at the development camp last weekend and got off to a good start in the Traverse City rookie tournament playing along side Robertson. Undrafted out of Notre Dame, he was just over a point per game player last season and has put up 60 points in his last 65 games with the University. Whether they crack the Leafs’ roster this season or next, a couple of entry level deals will certainly help the Leafs’ cap situation.
It’ll be interesting to see how well all the new faces fit in Keefe’s system and how quickly they can make an impression/build chemistry as training camp officially gets underway Monday with first game action coming quickly on September 25th against the Habs. We’ll be back before the season opener with an opening night preview once rosters are set.

I Can’t Do the One-Two Step | Newt x Reader
Request: Heyy! Would you write an imagine with Newt where everyone knows they're in love with each other but reader and Newt are damn oblivious about it so the glade tries to get them together and then they just hang mistletoes everywhere until they kiss and each other? I hope my english is okay, it's not my first language!😅 btw i love your writings!😍 - Anonymous
Warnings: None Word count: 2,668
A/N: Thank you for the request! Your English is fine, honey. Don’t ever feel embarrassed by that because knowing more than one language is so badass. As TBS would say, YOU GO GIRL! And, by the way, I loved writing this so much, it was so freaking cute and feel free to request imagines anytime because you have awesome ideas. I hope you enjoy it!
While none of us can remember a specific Christmas memory, we all remember the happy and family-centered holiday in general, and we decided that this year we would celebrate it in the Glade. The month before we were going to have our Christmas we spent decorating with what little materials we could work with, and gathering or making presents for other members of our little family. We were waiting until the thirty-sixth Greenie was sent up, marking three years that the first round of Gladers have been here.
I hear footsteps outside of my room in the Homestead and immediately throw the gifts and paper I’m using for wrapping under my bed as my door swings open.
“Saw that,” Teresa accuses with a giggle before bounding over and jumping to sit on my bed next to me.
“It doesn’t matter because I obviously wouldn’t get you a present,” I joke and stick my tongue out at her.
“Now, we both know that’s a lie. You love me the most of anyone here. Well, the second most,” she wiggles her eyebrows at me.
I push her playfully. “Quiet, you, or you definitely won’t be getting anything next week.”
“So what did you get Newt?” she asks, her voice a whisper.
I bite my lip and play with my fingers for a bit, feeling embarrassed. “Well, I kind of have been working with Gally on something...”
I meet her eyes and she’s staring at me expectantly.
I move to the floor and search under my bed before I grab the only present wrapped neatly in gold paper.
“Newt’s looks like that, while you throw mine, your best friend’s, in a brown sack?”
Now I push her for real. “Teresa! You’re the worst. You couldn’t have waited another week?”
“I don’t like surprises,” she answers simply.
“Well, surprise! It’s going in the trash now,” I sigh while she laughs and then carefully unwrap the gold paper and give Teresa the contents.
“Wow, (Y/N), this turned out amazing!”
Gally let me borrow some wood and then supervised while I carved it into a dog that Newt had described to me on a few occasions that he thought he may have owned before the Glade. I also tied a small red ribbon around its neck.
“You didn’t have to go through all this trouble though, you know. I think there’s something Newt wants a little more.”
I arch a brow at her so she happily continues.
“You know, a –“ and then she pretends to make out with her hand.
“You’re delusional, and gross,” I deadpan, grabbing the figurine back and wrapping it up again just as carefully as the first time before returning it to its spot under my bed. “Also, we have to get to work now.”
I hear her sigh behind me while she sprints to keep up with my retreating self. “You and Newt are the delusional ones.”
“Can we just drop the whole ‘Newt is in love with you too’ act? I’m really not in the mood today,” I say sadly once she catches up and walks next to me.
Teresa groans. “One day, both of you will stop being so shucking ignorant and finally see the truth.”
I ignore her as I see the second-in-command walking towards us but before he catches up, Teresa says goodbye and walks away in a different direction. He smiles at me and I smile back, letting my hair fall in front of my face to hide a blush that I know will probably come.
“Hey, (Y/N),” he says, turning around so we’re both walking towards the kitchen together, which is basically in the direction he came from. He enjoys walking me to work most days, because he’s a nice guy and not because he likes me. I have to keep reminding myself that.
“Hi, Newt.”
We get close enough to the kitchen that I begin to see the paper machete balls decorating it that look like tree ornaments. I squeal in joy and run the last few feet to see them up close. Newt giggles behind me.
“Do you like them? It took a few weeks but I think they came out decent.”
“You did this?” I ask him, with what I can imagine is a huge grin on my face from how it somewhat hurts my cheeks.
He beams and looks down at the floor, rubbing his neck. “Well, you were saying it sucked because you couldn’t see all the festivities from inside the kitchen so I just...”
“I love it, Newt,” I exclaim, bounding forward and pulling him into a hug. “Thank you.”
As we pull away, I lose control of my own movements and find myself kissing him on the cheek. I then mentally slap myself and pull back all the way, my face now a bright crimson and my mouth hanging open at my own stupid actions. Newt’s cheeks redden as well but he continues to smile brightly at me.
“Get a room!” Frypan yells amusedly behind me and I awkwardly wave goodbye to Newt before I turn and follow Fry to start getting lunch ready.
Newt’s POV
(Y/N) waves goodbye and then retreats into the kitchen. I rub my cheek where she had kissed me and continue to feel the warmth on my face from my own blush. I know it doesn’t mean anything to her to make those friendly little gestures, but they always mean the world to me.
“Hey, lover boy,” I hear behind me and turn to see Minho standing there with a knowing smirk.
“How about a little louder, Min, I don’t think she heard you that time,” I respond, rolling my eyes and start walking towards the gardens.
He sighs loudly and follows next to me. “What does it matter? She obviously feels the same for you as you do for her.”
“No, she doesn’t.”
He grabs my sleeve and we come to a stop, staring at each other. “Dude, I literally just watched her kiss you.”
“On the cheek! And it was because I did something nice, and she was just being thankful and friendly,” I answer, annoyed because I really don’t feel like having this conversation with him again.
He laughs in my face. “There’s no such thing as a friendly kiss! I don’t care if someone saves me from getting eaten by a Griever, you’ll never find my lips on any shank unless I have feelings for them.”
“Minho, you’re my best friend, and I love you, but if you don’t shut up I swear I will punch you in the bloody throat so hard that you’ll have no choice but to be quiet,” I tell him and then start walking away again to actually do my job, unlike him.
“Love has made you violent,” he laughs behind me and I quicken my pace to get away from him.
(Y/N)’s POV
Even though our Christmas is today, we all still have to work until sunset. It gives us about two hours less of work than a normal day, but we’re all so antsy to start giving gifts and, for most of the Gladers, getting drunk.
Frypan and I have one of the busiest days of everyone because we have to do all the cooking for the big Christmas dinner, and we have pretty much everything on the menu. When Fry finally says I can have a ten minute break, I basically fall to the ground outside the kitchen from exhaustion. I sit and watch the gardens across from me, but Newt isn’t there because he’s probably showing the new Greenie around. It’s another boy, like we needed another one of those...
Teresa looks up from her weeding and sees me, and then proceeds to say something quickly to Zart before bounding over with a big smile on her face.
“Merry Christmas, (Y/N)!” she announces happily.
I nod back at her with a smile on my face, but I’m still too hot and tired to speak. I continue fanning myself as I am almost completely covered in sweat. As soon as I’m done here, I’m going to need to hit the showers before the party.
Teresa reaches into her pocket and grabs something wrapped in a handkerchief, which she hands to me.
I look confusedly at her and then open it. It’s a rectangular piece of metal which has our names carved into one side and ‘BFF’S 4EVER’ carved into the other.
“I love it, Teresa,” I say as I feel happy tears prick my eyes. “But why are you giving me this now? It’s only a few more hours until the party.”
“Well, this is your first present. Your second one comes later,” she says with a knowing smirk.
I don’t notice her mischievous glint because I’m subconsciously angry at myself for getting her only one present when she got me two, but I don’t have much time to think about it as Frypan starts calling my name.
I stand up and hug her. “Thanks again. I love it and I love you. I’ll see you later!”
--
“Merry Christmas, Gladers!” Alby yells as the leaders and Keepers throw their lit torches into the larger-than-usual stack of wood.
Woops and cheers fill the air and we all raise our cups up. The sun hasn’t set completely, so it’s not dark yet but the fire signifies a celebratory mood. Gally’s drink flows freely, as he’s made the biggest batch he ever has before. I try not to drink too much just yet because I want to give out my gifts before I get completely wasted.
I receive presents left and right, and give out sloppy hugs mixed with tears because I can’t seem to say thank you without crying – especially with a few drinks in me. I give out my presents to everyone, saving Teresa and Newt for last since they’re my best friends and I spent the most time on them.
I give Teresa a brown bag holding her small cow-skin purse and we giggle because we both know this is not her first time seeing it, but she wipes her eyes and thanks me with a big hug anyway.
My eyes scan the crowd for Newt but find him talking to Minho so Teresa and I fill our cups again and talk about all the presents we gave and received. I find Teresa looking over at the pair on a couple occasions even though she tries to laugh it off every time I catch her.
Finally, she looks up again with a big smile and then looks back at me. “Okay, time for present number two. It’s in the map room.”
It was almost completely dark at this point and I had quite a bit of alcohol in me, so I gape at her. “You’re kidding.”
“Nope,” she grins and then turns me around and pushes me forward.
“I’m going to trip and break something,” I turn to yell at her but she just keeps that playful smirk on her face and motions for me to continue.
I sigh and head into the forest a few feet before I hear footsteps behind me. At first, I’m happy that she’s come to keep me company so I don’t fall but then I turn and see that it’s Newt. We both stop and stare at each other for a second.
“Sorry, I wasn’t following you. Uh, Minho said he had a present for me in the map room.”
I squint at him. “Oh, really? That’s funny. Teresa said she had a present for me in the map room too.”
He holds out his hand and I take it. “Shall we, then?”
Newt stops me from falling on my face on several occasions but the alcohol helps to make me less embarrassed, and Newt and I are both amused at my clumsiness. We are almost bent over and in pain from laughing when we finally make it to the map room.
“Better not be spiders,” Newt snickers and then we enter.
The previous hilarity fades quickly as we see what our present from Minho and Teresa is. The map room’s ceiling is completely covered in mistletoe.
I feel my heart stop and Newt immediately pulls his hand out of mine. The lack of contact feels like a kick in the face. He definitely doesn’t feel the same, and now, Teresa has gone and ruined our friendship.
“I’m going to kill Minho,” Newt growls.
“No need. This is obviously Teresa’s doing,” I tell him, my voice barely a whisper.
“Trust me, this was Minho. I keep telling him you don’t feel the same but he just won’t hear it.”
I gasp and stare at him. “What?”
Newt looks at me confused for a second and then recognition graces his features as he realizes what he just said. I can see his body go into panic mode: his eyes dart to the floor, his lip gets caught between his teeth and it looks like he might actually bite it off, his hands start fiddling together and his skin has gone completely pale.
Maybe it’s the alcohol that helps, but I move in front of him and grab his face and his eyes finally meet mine again. I smile at him and he slowly begins to smile back, a blush appearing on both of our faces.
“So...” I begin, “there’s all this mistletoe above us...”
His smile grows wider before he leans in and captures my lips in a loving kiss. My hands move from his face to play with his blonde locks as his arms wrap around my waist and he pulls me completely up against his body. I feel his mouth open slightly and I reciprocate, letting his tongue enter my mouth and dance around with my own. After a few minutes, we pull away and he places two more chaste kisses on my lips before we just stand there smiling goofily at each other.
“Oh! I have something for you,” Newt says, stepping back and pulling a neatly wrapped box from his pocket. “Merry Christmas, (Y/N).”
I grin and take it from him, opening it up carefully and revealing a beautiful bracelet woven from dried plants and flowers. Happy tears prick my eyes again but this time I can’t stop them from falling down my face.
“I love it, Newt, thank you!” I say, reaching into my own pocket. “And, Merry Christmas to you too!”
His fingers come up to wipe my tears before he delicately takes his own gift, unwrapping it and gasping once the wooden figure is exposed. He picks it up and studies all the different angles.
“That’s him! That’s exactly what he looks like in my head! That’s amazing! How long did it take? How did you do this so well? When did you even-“ I shut him up by placing my lips on his and we giggle once I pull back.
“Thank you,” he says with love in his eyes and I kiss him again before taking his hand.
“We should get back to the party,” I say and he nods, still looking down to glance at his gift with a big smile.
We’re only a few feet out of the map room when we see all of the Gladers standing around with torches, staring at us expectantly. They look at our intertwined hands, and then at each other. Then I roll my eyes and give them all the answer they’re obviously waiting for: I grab Newt’s face and kiss him quickly on the lips.
The whole crowd goes wild and Newt and I just chuckle at them together, our faces red.
“You’re all actually the worst!” I yell at them playfully and then I see Teresa push her way to the front with a gleam in her eye.
“Aw, come on, (Y/N), where’s your Christmas spirit?” I respond by giving her my middle finger as Newt pulls me into another kiss. “There it is!”
The end.

All the whelms
I’m unpacking and finishing up the last of the laundry from the trip, and I wish to chronicle a bit of my adventures from the past week.
Disneyland was as it always was, a bit of a homecoming. Lots of construction made navigation of the park more difficult than years past, but serviceable. I know which things I wanted to experience and I managed to do all the things. California Adventure had great people-watching, as they were in the middle of Lunar New Year celebrations and the park seemed filled with Chinese tour groups on vacation for the biggest holiday of the year. It felt bizarre, sitting on one of the benches in front of the pier, listening to Chinese music (both traditional and pop) and seeing how...global this whole thing was. Capitalism strikes again, but it was so interesting. Go figure.
I had planned our Disney trip for Monday/Tuesday, as weekdays were supposed to be less crowded. Little did I know that the kids had the day off from school on Monday, so the parks were more crowded than usual. We tried to get on the Indiana Jones ride, got to the stairs right before loading, and then had to leave the ride. Indy’s always prone to breaking down, but with the influx of guests, the breakdowns were much more prevalent. After we left, it started to rain(???!!!) so we left Disneyland and walked the 2 blocks to our hotel room.
Gally is always like a homecoming as well. After helping with setting up the drapes in the main hall for the past few years, Jeff & I have gotten to know a bunch of the folks who actually make the con happen for the past 20+ years. It was great to catch up with them in a venue that wasn’t just Facebook. But the con itself was filled with ups and downs, and, privy as I am to the inner workings of said con, it was like the old saw about a swan in water, serene above the surface, but paddling furiously below. That the con *seems* smoothly run is testament to the hard work of all the folks who run it, FOR FREE, FOR THE LOVE OF DOCTOR WHO AND THE FANDOM SURROUNDING IT.
Anyway, this year I didn’t want to tax myself with trying to see too many things. Sat in a group of panels from Friday and Saturday. The Camille Courduri/Jemma Redgrave This or That was a particular favorite of mine. Rapid fire Q&A, and when Camille was asked her fave version of the Sonic Screwdriver, to which she replied “The one I keep in a drawer next to my bed,” which killed most of the audience, including me. Camille scolded all of us for having dirty minds. “Smutty Gally!”
Also, Jemma Redgrave’s laugh is a gift to the world.
Then there was the Steven Moffat one-on-one where I think he was ready to defend himself from haters. Not 2 hours before the panel, I was in the dealers’ room and spotted a cosplayer dressed like Moffat with a sign on the back reading “I’m Steven Moffat. Kick me.” I don’t condone violence against anyone, not even TV showrunners. So that was...bizarre.
Say what you will about his run, I did appreciate Moffat’s absolute candor during his panel. It was candid and raw and I think he did a decent job of defending himself against accusations of “all your female characters are the same” and misogyny. To which, he stated (this is not an exact quote, I think, but I hope I got the gist) “Misogyny is a genuine tool for evil in this world and you voted it into the White House.” There are valid points to criticism of his writing (hell, I didn’t like everything he did either) but he defended himself well and accepted that he did make some mistakes. There was also a fan who brought up mischaracterization of the First Doctor (”make the tea”, “smacked bottom”, etc.) but Moffat pointed out that the Doctor was absolutely a product of his time, those lines came directly from the First Doctor serials, and the whole point of that scene was as a commentary,on how far the character has come since then. (I mean, even in The Five Doctors, One told Tegan to make some refreshments and she’s all like no fucking way and Fivey told her to “humor him.” What I’m saying is that it was already an awkward thing in the ‘80s and Fivey was already a little embarassed!)
From what I’d seen, Moffat spent loads of time hanging out at the hotel bar and speaking with fans the entire weekend. He absolutely wanted to interact, and I’m hoping he had a decent experience.
Sunday was a mixed bag for me. Lack of sleep finally caught up with me and I woke with the worst migraine I’d had in perhaps a few decades. Took my meds and decided to take it easy for the rest of the day. No panels, just a final sweep through the dealers’ room, and mostly just hanging out in my hotel room sitting on the balcony and peoplewatching. I was in a strange headspace by Sunday afternoon. I’d cried in the shower. I still don’t really know why. Probably a mix of fatigue and sadness that my week away was nearly over. So i missed the Gallifrey Waits No More, which was, by all accounts I’d read afterwards, an incredible and neccessary panel on the Me Too movement as it pertained to many of this year’s female guests. I hope that more cons are brave enough to do this, and that the momentum for this never stops.
I’m back home now, nursing post-con blues, while Jeff, I think, has caught a terrible version of con crud. Next Gally will be incredible.

Montréal Canadiens 2016-2017 Yearbook Players Q&A
FROM YEARBOOK AND ALL CREDITS TO MONTREAL CANADIENS.
[HIGHTLIGHT TO THOSE PARTS WHICH IS IMPORTANT TO READ]
_________________________________
#45 Mark Barberio
Q: What was the inspiration for your “Stache”?
MB:(laughs) I’ve always been a big fan of Mario and Luigi in the Super Mario games. They always had great moustaches. I thought I would pay tribute to them with my “stache”.
_________________________________
#28 Nathan Beaulieu
Q: Growing up, how many people actually pronounced your last name properly?
NB:(laughs) Not many! It’s not that easy. It’s a little bit my fault, though, because since I grew up in Ontario, I always Anglicized it.
_________________________________
#41 Paul Byron
Q: How’d you get so fast?
PB: I don’t know. I started skating when I was three and I was always fast. When I moved from Junior B to Major Junior, I also started training on artificial ice where I had to pull my coach, who weighed 230 pounds, while I weighted 130. That probably helped me get faster, and I always work really hard in the summer to build up my power.
_________________________________
#43 Daniel Carr
Q: Do you have a favorite Disney movie?
DC: I don’t know if this is a Disney movie, but I’d have to say the first shrek. That one was really good.
_________________________________
#24 Phillip Danault
Q: If you had a chance to bring back any former Canadiens player, who would it be?
PD: Saku Koivu, because he was a great leader and I had a chance to see him often growing up I was more of a kid who played hockey instead of watching it, but i’d pick him.
_________________________________
#51 David Desharnais
Q: What’s your best memory with the team?
DD: Probably when we went to the Eastern Conference finals[in 2014], after we beat Boston in Game 7 in their building. Personally, my first game and my first goal are both things I’ll never forget, but with the team on the whole, what we accomplished that year was special.
_________________________________
#74 Alexei Emelin
Q: Who is the hardest player to knock off their feet?
AE: On our team, I’d say Chucky[Alex Galchenyuk] or Radu[Alex Radulov]. In the League, it’s either Connor McDavid or Alex Ovechkin.
_________________________________
#32 Brian Flynn
Q: Who was your favorite NHL player growing up?
BF: When I was a kid, it was Peter Forsberg. I loved the Avalance. They were an exciting team, and then they made the deal to bring in Ray Bourque from Boston and won the Cup. Forsberg scored a lot of big goals. I even started wearing 21 because of him.
_________________________________
#27 Alex Galchenyuk
Q: Who on the team would be the class down and who would be the A+ student?
AG: No question. Andrew Shaw would for sure be the class down. For the best student, I’d probably say Jeff Petry because he went to university and is a smart guy.
_________________________________
#11 Brendan Gallagher
Q: Who is your favorite player to go up against?
BG: I’m always excited to go up against Zdeno Chara, just because throughout my entire life, people always said I was too small. For me, there’s no bigger challenge than going up against the biggest guy in the League.
_________________________________
#62 Artturi Lehkonen
Q: Since you joined the team, which guy had made the biggest impact on you both personally and as a player?
AL: It’s tough to pick just one guy because we have such a good group here. Everything really is about teamwork.
_________________________________
#79 Andrei Markov
Q: What motivated you to become a hockey player?
AM: My parents. They didn’t want me to waste my time after school.
_________________________________
#17 Torrey Mitchell
Q: Before a faceoff, you look so focused. What are you thinking about?
TM: I’m just thinking about being aggressive for a good five to 10 seconds. Just being as aggressive as possible.
_________________________________
#35 Al Montoya
Q: How is your relationship with Brendan Gallagher since you punched him two years ago?
AM: Oh, that’s a great question! On my first day here, Patch[Max Pacioretty] actually brought it up. He walked into the room and said, “ Have you and Gally talked about the time you hit him in Winnipeg?” We all just started cracking up. It was nothing. I was excited to be playing against a team like this and he was just doing his job. He’s kind of player you hate playing against, but you love to have on your team. I have so much respect for him.
_________________________________
#26 Jeff Petry
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
JP: During the season, I pretty much just spend my free time at home with my son, Boyd. In the summer, I like to be outside, or I’ll go shooting or fishing.
_________________________________
#14 Tomas Plekanec
Q: How was playing professional hockey changed your life for the better?
TP: It was a dream come true. I’ve always dreamed about becoming a professional athlete, especially as a hockey player, and I worked really hard to get here. You have a chance to wake up, go to practice, and then have the day to spend with your family. We know we’re very privileged to have this opportunity.
_________________________________
#31 Carey Price
Q: Which NHL player gives you the most trouble or is the most difficult to stop?
CP: I would probably say Ovi[Alex Ovichkin] because he always seems to find an opening and he as a great shot.
_________________________________
#47 Alexander Radulov
Q: Who has the weirdest ritual or superstition on the team?
AR: Definitely Mitchy[Torrey Mitchell]. He makes all of us tap our helmets together in the hall before we go on the ice.
_________________________________
#Zach Redmond
Q: What’s your favorite road city?
ZR: During the year, you run into a lot of cold weather. That’s why a lot of the guys and I enjoy the California and Florida trips. It’s good to have a little break and enjoy the sun a little bit, not that we’re out in the sun a whole lot when we’re there. It’s always nice to break it ip mid-season.
_________________________________
#65 Andrew Shaw
Q: When you were traded to Montreal, what were you most excited about?
AS: I was really pumped about making new friends and meeting new people and forming relationships on and off the ice. And just the idea of pulling on this jersey with all the history that comes with it. I was just excited to take part in everything here.
_________________________________
#6 Shea Weber
Q: Do Carey Price and Al Montoya let you take full clappers in practice?
SW: I’m sure they would, but I never feel the need to take huge slapshots, just in case I get someone in a bad place. There’s no reason to hurt your own goalie. The best time to fire off some of those is when there’s no goalie in the net.
_________________________________
#8 Greg Pateryn
Q: What motivates you to improve yourself every day?
GP: What you need to do not just every year, but every single day, is getting better. I think you have to take pride in knowing you’re helping your teammates and that they can count on you. But they also expect you to get better. If you don’t, you’re not just letting yourself down, you’re letting the team down. That’s what motivates me. That and also knowing that there’s always someone fighting to take your place and that you could end up out of a job.
_________________________________
#67 Max Pacioretty
Q: What is your goal for this season?
MP: To win the Stanley Cup.
