prompt 20, any rating, tenrose!
Ten x Rose; rated G; autumn fluff and mutual pining, not an AU!

//
The Doctor opened the TARDIS doors with a grin and a flourish.
“New Amsterdam! Established by the Dutch West India Company in 1624.”
Rose tried not to laugh. “Are you sure this isn’t New new new new new new new Amsterdam?”
The Doctor peered outside. The narrow brown houses with decorative gables lining the river looked old, but the boats passing by were decidedly modern.
He rubbed the back of his neck. “Ah. Just Amsterdam, then.”
“It’s new to me,” she said, both to make the Doctor feel better about landing in the wrong place and because she had always wanted to visit the Netherlands. She wondered sometimes if the TARDIS had access to her mental bucket list.
Rose traded her rough woolen dress and white cap for denim dungarees and a striped, long-sleeve, t-shirt.
It was a beautiful autumn day, just on the right side of cool. A breeze stirred the branches of leafy elms and poplars, dotting the water with golden leaves.
The Doctor and Rose rented bikes and decided to follow the Amstel River. It was a nice change of pace, to pedal rather than run.
There, amongst tourists and commuters, amongst ringing bells and chatter, Rose imagined herself and the Doctor going about their daily lives in Amsterdam. Riding their bikes to work, stopping for Stroopwafel and produce in Albert Cuyp market, perhaps that café with the second-hand English bookstore would be their favourite. She imagined a tiny flat looking over the canals, notebooks piled on the windowsill, a grey cat lounging on them, the scent of geranium drifting in from the flower boxes.
She’d been having these kind of thoughts more and more since the Doctor had regenerated. At first, she thought they were daydreams, but they had an odd déjà vu quality. She disliked thinking of them as visions, but that’s the best word she could come up with. Was it a coincidence they started after she’d absorbed the heart of the TARDIS?
“Rose?”
The Doctor’s forehead was wrinkled with worry. She’d lost track of where they were— they’d stopped on a bridge. A glass-roofed cruise boat glided underneath.
She had yet to tell the Doctor about her visions. She feared his reaction if he thought she longed for a banal, domestic life with him.
“I thought I saw something in the water,” she lied.
“Oh, not again,” the Doctor said.
“What?”
He leaned over the railing, sonic screwdriver pointed toward the canal.
“Last time I was here, there were spaceships in Rembrandt’s paintings, and we had to pop back to the 17th century. Let me tell you, Rembrandt may be a master painter, but he’s not a master warrior. He was useless. We fought off the Nix all on our own.”
“We? You and Sarah Jane?” she asked.
“Tegan and Nyssa,” he said offhandedly, still observing the canal. Then, remembering his resolution to be more forthcoming about his past, “I’ll tell you about them later. I will. What did it look like, the thing you saw in the water?”
“You know, I think it was just a duck. My brain is too used to seeing weird stuff when I’m with you.”
He chuckled.
“Well, if you see any goblin-like creatures coming out of the water, let me know, the Nix might be at it again.”
“Will do.” She smiled.
The Doctor took Rose’s hand and gave it a light squeeze. For a moment he looked like he was going to say something important, and an image of him in a blue suit flashed through her mind.
“I think Amstelpark is that way,” was all he said.
In the park, the cycling pace was slower. They followed the path parallel to the river. Families enjoyed the playground and mini-golf and groups of students relaxed in the café near the pond. But as they traveled southward, the crowd thinned and the landscape turned bucolic. Tall grass shimmered with slanted autumn light, insects buzzed in wildflowers, and an old-fashioned windmill turned lazily.
The Doctor and Rose stopped and sat on the riverbank. From his trans-dimensional pockets, he pulled a bottle of water for her. A light mist skated above the water, lending the landscape a hazy quality reminiscent of Rembrandt’s art.
The last time they’d lain in the grass was on New Earth, bubbling with nervousness and getting reacquainted. And just like then, they were babbling and joking, reminiscing, but with a level of comfort they didn’t have on New Earth. And yet, they were still holding back with half-finished sentences, furtive glances and hesitant touches. When he reclined fully, arms behind his head, the desire to cuddle up to him and lay her head on his chest was so strong, she had to pinch herself to a bruise. And Rose was relieved when a goblin-like creature emerged from the river.
—
The grey cat isn’t theirs, but their neighbour’s. His name is Felix, and he has quite the talent for walking the ledge between open windows and making himself at home in everybody’s flat.
Those notebooks are filled with information about a mysterious corporation they are chasing around the globe. For now, the Doctor works at the science museum while Rose investigates underground tunnels with her team.
Life with her one-hearted Doctor is far from banal, but there are days when Rose plants geranium in flower boxes, mornings when they sit for hours in their friend Joan’s café. And there are sunny fall afternoons when they lounge in Amstelpark, eating freshly-baked Stroopwafel, crispy and oozing caramel.
A drop lands on the Doctor’s chin, and Rose wipes it off with her thumb, and he kisses her, caramel-sweet. It’s so easy, so natural.
“Do you remember when we fought the Nix here,” he says.
“I remember the look on the emperor’s face when he realized you were the same man who’d once defeated him.”
They mimic the emperor’s expression of surprise and frustration-- though it’s hard to replicate with only two eyes-- and burst out laughing.
Rose thinks she’ll plant tulip bulbs in the flower boxes. In the spring, they’ll bloom. She’ll open the windows and their fragrance will waft in, melting snow will drip from the roof, and Felix will visit, and they will cuddle up in bed, again and again. Such is life when time always flows forward, linear, but ever changing through the seasons, like the canals of Amsterdam.

The Albert Cuyp Market is a street market in Amsterdam, on the Albert Cuypstraat between Ferdinand Bolstraat and Van Woustraat, in the De Pijp area of the Oud-Zuid district of the city. The street and market are named for Albert Cuyp, a painter from the 17th century. The market is open 6 days a week

Having a really nice vacation so far. Made the excellent decision of traveling with a friend, and we’ve gotten a lot of mileage out of Europe that way. For the first day we walked around Amsterdam and saw the Albert Cuyp market place, went on an epic quest to find Kaassouffle at a snack bar (4 out of 5 of them were closed), and meandered around the Red Light district (my mother insisted we go see it, as it’s just part of the culture of the city).
The second day we saw my old hometown, Naarden, and had tea with my neighbour, who is a lovely English lady in her 80’s. We talked about old times, and saw the nearby fort town a 15 minute walk away. It was really amazing to see how little everything but my old house has changed. Many of the local houses, schools and businesses have not changed at all since I left 16 years ago.

An Amsterdam City Guide | Where to Stay & What to Do
Amsterdam may be the sin city of the EU, but don't let it's unsavoury reputation fool you; It's rich history, architecture, open skyline, food and relaxed, easy going attitude towards life has won itself a place in my heart and over the years I've headed back to the city three times. I've spent numerous hours exploring the city, walking firstly with map in hand like an eager tourist and then allowing the my feet to take me wherever the road may lead.
For the price of stay-cationing in the UK its almost as financially sound to look further a field to *whispers* is it safe to mention Europe yet? With flights to major European cities costing the same if not cheaper than a return trip to London (or Blackpool!), flashing my passport, donning a hand luggage sized suitcase for 3 nights and booking in some city break sight seeing is the best idea…

Amsterdam food and exploration day yesterday 😛.
My dad saw this show on Chinese television which featured a bunch of different sights to see and things to eat in Amsterdam. We then of course tried to check off as many items as possible and actually did really well! Dappermarkt (meh), The Avocado Show (which I was ridiculously excited for and even wore my avo shirt for the occasion), Hotel Not Hotel (super neat hotel! Pics below), Foodhallen (with an excellent and random orchestra performance right outside), Van Wonderen fries (with Parmesan and mayo), Van der Linde ice cream (which is made of 25% whipped cream..a bit too much..), and apple pie at Winkel 43.
Oh, and we also made our own chocolate at Tony’s Chocolonely, had a giant stroopwafel from Albert Cuyp Market, and capped off the night with pho. 😂🙈😛

hEYYY GUYS I’M BACK IN SG my waking hours have been garbage tier for the past two days but i don’t think it’s jet lag?? probably exhaustion since i was busy throughout the two weeks and didn’t get much rest
i’m still in the middle of editing pics so pls enjoy some market aesthetics and a kinda long post about my last day in netherlands while it’s still fresh in my head
25 / 5 / 2019
i woke up really early in the morning to finish packing bc the bus was picking us up at 10 am and my tired ass didn’t want to pack the night before
since there were around 9 hours to spare until my flight (at 9 pm lol), my friend and i planned to visit the albert cuyp market in amsterdam!! it’s the largest and most popular daily market in netherlands i think
ended up taking two other course mates along bc i guess they didn’t have anything else planned and waiting around in the airport for 9 hours+ wasn’t really the best idea
we were lucky that it didn’t rain even though the sky was particularly dark
there was so much food!!! and a lot of souvenir shops but they didn’t sell anything particularly appealing and part of me wanted to save up in case i spot some stroopwafel magnets or something
i didn’t but honestly they should make some
had slight regrets of getting lunch at albert (it’s a supermarket btw) bc i was too full to try all the food at the market but...... maybe it was better for my wallet that way
in the end i settled for some delicious BATTERED FISH CHUNKS (3.65€) and PISTACHIO ICE-CREAM (1.50€) mmmm i was super deprived of fish during my entire trip so that was good!! and also i really wanted to have the ice-cream-in-a-cold-land experience
my friend got FRIES WITH SATAY SAUCE from one of the stalls so i tried some!! the fries themselves were good but the satay sauce basically tasted like peanut butter which was...... weird in a not good way
then i realised that i don’t even eat satay with the sauce so idk how the sauce is supposed to taste like lol
we found a nice chocolate shop and they had really pretty-looking chocolate bars but!!! i’m afraid they’ll melt by the time i get back to sg so i didn’t buy any
i really wanted to get these for some ppl tho ahaha
oh and there was a guy...... who looked like ash......... i couldn’t help but take a photo... yeah maximum creepy i know
like all the touristy destinations there were more stroopwafel stalls and so i succumbed to my Tin Desires and bought another tin of stroopwafels
IT WAS CHEAPER AND HAD A NICER DESIGN THAN THE ONE I GOT AT THE WEDNESDAY MARKET!! i should’ve waited dammit
i can already hear my dad’s disapproving remarks bc i’m basically paying an extra 2 to 3 euros for a tin... that would eventually rust lmao
why do i need so many tins anyway?? nobody knows but i must have them
this is gonna sound mildly disgusting but every time we were near a fruit stall my jacket would be covered in flies
there were two possible reasons for that: (1) my jacket is filthy from being worn too often and/or (2) the yellow colour makes me look like a mango or something
idk i’m inclined to believe it was the latter since my pants were spared and i’ve worn the same pants for almost two weeks
shout out to my friends who were constantly removing flies from my back where i could not see (☞゚ヮ゚)☞
the stalls were starting to pack up at around 4–5 pm so we took it as our cue to return to the airport
had dinner at leon but ummm would not recommend their fish wrap bc they were so dry...... i feel like all (i.e. two) of our meals at the airport have been disappointing ://// especially at the price we’re paying for?? if you gotta eat at schiphol airport i’d probably suggest the burger king... sounds like the safest option imo
(WHERE’S THE SAUCE)
after dinner there wasn’t much time left until our flight so we just did some last minute shopping at albert
some flight things:
the food on my return trip wasn’t as good... i think it was a really bad idea for them to give me beans ;; my stomach hurt so bad during the first few hours
HEY HEY HEY I SAW THE AIR STEWARDESS GIVE OUT ICE-CREAM BUT THEY DIDN’T GIVE ONE TO ME whYYY
and they didn’t serve me bread or drinks the whole trip... i mean i knew why but still......
watched cafe funiculi funicula on the plane and it was surprisingly good??? it’s got a death parade vibe... much feels wow if you do end up watching the movie you can guess which part/case turned on the waterworks hahah
later i picked johnny english reborn (i.e. the second season bc i watched the first one on my departing flight) to recover from the feels but i couldn’t finish the movie so no spoilers pls
plane landed in sg at around 4 pm on sunday!!
dad wanted me to get dom for my relatives aND I ALMOST BOUGHT A $200 DOM PERIGNON (bc that was the only ‘dom’ i know from watching that one gintama episode) WHEN HE WANTED A $50 D.O.M
the thing that saved his wallet was my inexperience bc i tried to purchase at the departure hall instead of the arrival hall so the salesperson stopped me hahah
i also took the opportunity to visit the pokecen in hopes of finding a gengar but there wasn’t any
got myself a pyukumuku carabiner instead with the only S$10 that i brought with me overseas!! i remember wanting one a while back for some reason
aaa it’s been a long two weeks but i will miss the netherlands
surprisingly i didn’t actually miss home that much even though it was my first time being away from home for so long??
not sure if it was bc i was too busy to think of home or a conscious decision i made so that i could appreciate the most of my trip
well apart from the fact that i was quite salty about how my phone kept acting up every time i tried to take photos and i didn’t bring my camera so i lost a lot of photo opportunities wehh
anyway pls stay tuned to my back logs~
#i actually wanted to blog daily but my schedule wouldn't permit it#so now i'm gonna be editing for days ;;#whew i haven't written such a long post since??? my poly days or something#log
