Thank you for the ask!! But uh here is my very rusty attempt at this, sorry if this isn’t exactly what you had in mind, this is just how I imagine it!!

Jonathan had thought his relationship with Argyle had been pretty well hidden, at least most of the time. Well unless they were alone. Then obviously, it wasn’t.

But he was super wrong.

After getting back from the roller rink, He had invited Argyle in for dinner, which in hindsight probably wasn’t a good idea because they were both tripping balls, from Jonathan’s obviously over relaxed demeanor, and his tendency to chuckle at every noise made. Usually this wasn’t a problem, no one ever said anything about it, but the lingering touches between him and Argyle, on the hand, or Jonathan pressed against his side until he literally couldn’t be, well it raised some suspicion from Will.

Now obviously he wasn’t going to say anything, not infront of everyone at least. It just seemed cruel. Jonathan was whispering to Argyle, asking him several random questions, mainly about why Murray was there, to which Argyle shrugged, “maybe he’s a business dude with your mom or something man.” Jonathan nodded slowly, sitting back up from his slouching position, “right yeah, can you pass me the olive oil?” “That’s wine.”

Dinner continued as normal, with Will’s eyes on Argyle and Jonathan like a hawk, nothing else had really happened, except for Jonathan leaning his head on Argyle’s shoulder for a long period of time, and He looked peaceful. But what if Will was wrong? That would be embarrassing to bring up.

Will was helping Jonathan in the kitchen, waiting until everyone was in a car proximity, before hounding Jonathan. “So… you seem pretty close with Argyle. Is he cool?” That wasn’t want he wanted to ask, but obviously he couldn’t just blurt out and ask him if they were dating, at least not until he got more information. Jonathan nodded, mainly without hesitation, looking over as he cleaned off the dishes, water flicking over onto his shirt. “Yeah he’s cool. Why’d you ask?” Will shrugged, playing it off as he dried the counter. “Just curious, you were like, wedged onto him earlier.”

Jonathan had figured Will knew. He could practically feel his eyes burning into him, but it didn’t really bother him, someone had to know right? “If you’re trying to ask if we’re.. a thing, then yes. We are. Sorta-“ it was a complicated matter, it’s not like they really specified exactly what the two were, obviously more than friends but not exactly lovers? “Right, yeah no it’s cool- I was just asking. I didn’t want you to get the wrong idea” Will rambled, as Jonathan looked over and shook his head softly. “You worry too much, but if that answers your question, was that all you needed? Or did you want to talk about anything else?”

Will shook his head absently, he wasn’t going to judge him for it, so his question had been answered for now. “Nope- I’m good. Just uh- be more careful in front of mom, with the; being high thing. She might catch on” Jonathan nodded, finishing up the dishes and drying his hands off. “Yeah I figured, and, could you maybe not tell anyone right now? I mean I know you won’t it’s just- I’m still trying to figure out what we’re gonna end up being, and I need to talk to him.

Will nodded, giving him a small grin. “Course, your secret is safe with me.”

I know the tsc fandom is in hibernation, but I was rereading Learn About Loss, and When Belial asks Zachariah if he can choose between a cure and the whereabouts of the lost Herondale. Jem chooses the lost Herondale because according to him " The Carstairs owe a life debt to the Herondales. That is my choice."

This means that the whole Carstairs owe the Herondale thing happened before 1936. The thing is, it was never mentioned in TLH, which makes me think, maybe it happened after 1903? But at the same time, which Carstairs would owe a life debt to the Herondales between 1903 and 1936? So, it's either Zachary who would be in his 30s by the 1930s, Alastair (honestly, I don't see him owing shit to the Herondales 😭😭) Cordelia or Alastair's kids if he had any. But it has to be them, they are the only Carstairs alive in this period.

Alastair would be happy to do unholy things to you lmao also defiance, but not towards MC's father (this applies more in deeper romance) but him. A person who isn't afraid of pushing back intrigues him, even though he knows it shouldn't.

Max: he’s a sensitive bugger at heart. This might make him tear up tbh. Thinks you’re too precious for this world. 100% spoils you with a grand wedding and then makes sure your first time is as precious as you are to him in general.

Professor Reisgraf: Agrees, and wishes to wed you properly. Is very formal about the whole thing, another grand wedding for you. You feel like absolute royalty with him. and it doesn’t stop at the wedding, will bow down to the crown, and isn’t afraid to give you anything you want or need.

Alastair: Feels the same way as you always, will spoil you and want to be spoiled by you as well. will NOT wear a tux. Probably catch him wearing a short dress honestly, with lots of frilly volume, and will wear a white choker, instead of his usually black. HAS ALWAYS WANTED TO TAKE YOUR VIRGINITY, and his life long dream has been realized, will study for MONTHS to be properly prepared. Will definitely cry.

Tzaisol: is so freakin excited, marries you in the traditional way for his clan. everyone welcomes you and you feel like you’re at home. Your first night together changes any life goals you had before to just wanting to be a good parent to some cute lil troll babies.

ahhhhhhhh ABSOLUTELY uhhhh okay so I don't exactly know what coherent thoughts (or attempts at coherent thoughts) I can say uhhhrm

okay this has been sitting in my drafts for an UNCOMFORTABLE amount of time, so I think I may as well respond now?

Maristella is the main character and she is very aware she is the main character and knows she ought to be the main character. She's smart and calculating and her father is he admiral of the navy.

HER DAD IS SUCH A COOL CHARACTER. I don't get to flush out most of his backstory until (someday!) when I write his prequel but basically:

he joins the navy!

he gets thrown overboard during a battle!

he ends up in the in-universe equivalent of venice, italy!

he washes up on someone's doorstep!

they feed him spaghetti!

he falls in love with one of the daughters of the family who lives there!

he finds his way back to his place in the navy!

as soon as he gets a leave from the navy, he returns and marries her!

they have a daughter! that's maristella!

eight years later he gets promoted to admiral!

(there were lots of promotions leading up to that!)

and as admiral he gets to go home to see his family once every year!

not-so coincidentally he also has a child every year after that for the next four years!

except the second to last year of that when he has twins!

and then he's in the navy for a while!

and then he almost dies in battle!

and then these two cadets in the navy save his life!

and then he promotes them!

and then he invites them to a ball he hosts!

and then... oh, perry the platypus, the pop-up book seems to have caught up with us in real time. and by that i mean this is where the book starts!

Now let's talk about Verity! Verity is Maristella's best friend. The admiral saved her life once and she swore allegiance to his family (she was like. ten. but she meant it.) and she and Maristella instantly became besties! Verity is the Samwise to her Mr. Frodo but Verity is also like Elizabeth Swann!

Verity and Maristella both hate Victor Durand III. Victor Durand III has had a bitter rivalry with Maristella ever since her dad was promoted to Admiral and his dad stayed a commodore. Fortunately, Maristella's hatred of Victor is only rivaled by her enjoyment of her hatred of Victor. They become more like salty friends in the second book, like reluctant besties, and it's a vibe. Victor also has a cousin named Alastair who basically worships the ground he walks on. Alastair doesn't show up much, but I have him set up for a romance with a character who doesn't show up at all in the first book but was definitely there the whole time and she's an absolute ray of sunshine and her best friend is not!

Speaking of best friends, Victor is NOT best friends with Conroy. Conroy is a nerd. Victor is a jock. However, Conroy's dad is a professor at the naval academy and Victor's dad is the commodore of the navy and Maristella's dad is the admiral (hahaha take THAT, victor!) and Verity is basically family with her family so all four of them become close comrades. Conroy cannot read social cues.

Oh and while we're not on the subject at all! Isabella (who used to be Casper but I switched him to a girl because it fit the narrative better) is the best big sister in the whole world! She takes good care of her little brother, Adrian, and they join the navy together! And then they save the admiral's life! And then he promotes them to captain and lieutenant! And then they get invited to the admiral's ball! (Yes! It's the ones I talked about up there!)

Adrian has eyes as blue as the viorel sea and arms as strong as the waves that move galleons and a smile as refreshing as the southwestern breeze and his hands are always cold and he has a secret love for expensive shoes and he falls for Maristella the minute he lays eyes on her at her father's ball, which is very fortunate because he also catches her eye too! And then they share eleven waltzes! And they talk on the balcony for a while! But instead of a premature love confession, he convinces her to join the navy! And she does! And so does Verity! And then just before they graduate from the navy, Maristella recieves word that Adrian perished at sea!

(but did he? or didn't he? ooooooohhhhh plot TWIST)

the more time that passes the more I realise how LITTLE we learnt from chot. like the only things that we found out that affected the later books was why mina won't have belial powers and Jesse's tomb from sobh. Matthew's flask ?? the beautiful cordelia?? the door from los that kit, livvy and ty find?? the weird herondale-blackthorn entwined paper kit finds in blackthorn hall?? why everyone was so sad about matthew later on?
