Thank you for the ask!! But uh here is my very rusty attempt at this, sorry if this isn’t exactly what you had in mind, this is just how I imagine it!!

Jonathan had thought his relationship with Argyle had been pretty well hidden, at least most of the time. Well unless they were alone. Then obviously, it wasn’t.

But he was super wrong.

After getting back from the roller rink, He had invited Argyle in for dinner, which in hindsight probably wasn’t a good idea because they were both tripping balls, from Jonathan’s obviously over relaxed demeanor, and his tendency to chuckle at every noise made. Usually this wasn’t a problem, no one ever said anything about it, but the lingering touches between him and Argyle, on the hand, or Jonathan pressed against his side until he literally couldn’t be, well it raised some suspicion from Will.

Now obviously he wasn’t going to say anything, not infront of everyone at least. It just seemed cruel. Jonathan was whispering to Argyle, asking him several random questions, mainly about why Murray was there, to which Argyle shrugged, “maybe he’s a business dude with your mom or something man.” Jonathan nodded slowly, sitting back up from his slouching position, “right yeah, can you pass me the olive oil?” “That’s wine.”

Dinner continued as normal, with Will’s eyes on Argyle and Jonathan like a hawk, nothing else had really happened, except for Jonathan leaning his head on Argyle’s shoulder for a long period of time, and He looked peaceful. But what if Will was wrong? That would be embarrassing to bring up.

Will was helping Jonathan in the kitchen, waiting until everyone was in a car proximity, before hounding Jonathan. “So… you seem pretty close with Argyle. Is he cool?” That wasn’t want he wanted to ask, but obviously he couldn’t just blurt out and ask him if they were dating, at least not until he got more information. Jonathan nodded, mainly without hesitation, looking over as he cleaned off the dishes, water flicking over onto his shirt. “Yeah he’s cool. Why’d you ask?” Will shrugged, playing it off as he dried the counter. “Just curious, you were like, wedged onto him earlier.”

Jonathan had figured Will knew. He could practically feel his eyes burning into him, but it didn’t really bother him, someone had to know right? “If you’re trying to ask if we’re.. a thing, then yes. We are. Sorta-“ it was a complicated matter, it’s not like they really specified exactly what the two were, obviously more than friends but not exactly lovers? “Right, yeah no it’s cool- I was just asking. I didn’t want you to get the wrong idea” Will rambled, as Jonathan looked over and shook his head softly. “You worry too much, but if that answers your question, was that all you needed? Or did you want to talk about anything else?”

Will shook his head absently, he wasn’t going to judge him for it, so his question had been answered for now. “Nope- I’m good. Just uh- be more careful in front of mom, with the; being high thing. She might catch on” Jonathan nodded, finishing up the dishes and drying his hands off. “Yeah I figured, and, could you maybe not tell anyone right now? I mean I know you won’t it’s just- I’m still trying to figure out what we’re gonna end up being, and I need to talk to him.

Will nodded, giving him a small grin. “Course, your secret is safe with me.”

I know the tsc fandom is in hibernation, but I was rereading Learn About Loss, and When Belial asks Zachariah if he can choose between a cure and the whereabouts of the lost Herondale. Jem chooses the lost Herondale because according to him " The Carstairs owe a life debt to the Herondales. That is my choice."

This means that the whole Carstairs owe the Herondale thing happened before 1936. The thing is, it was never mentioned in TLH, which makes me think, maybe it happened after 1903? But at the same time, which Carstairs would owe a life debt to the Herondales between 1903 and 1936? So, it's either Zachary who would be in his 30s by the 1930s, Alastair (honestly, I don't see him owing shit to the Herondales 😭😭) Cordelia or Alastair's kids if he had any. But it has to be them, they are the only Carstairs alive in this period.

This is one of my favourite vocal stims of all time, and Jimmy is the best, and Tom’s quotes are always so quotable, and really all of why I love this bit boils down to autism. Jimmy is adorable, and he’s such a sweetheart, and I just really love this quote because he just wants to be a good police officer (hi Nigel) and he might be really high but he’s doing a great job and I am so proud of him.

4. Arthur’s death (BBC Merlin, TV show)

Look, it’s heartbreaking. But it’s gorgeous (and it’s a seasonal choice), and it’s honestly so well-executed on the part of Colin and Bradley. They did such an amazing job. Merlin’s grief just feels so real, and you can see the love in Arthur’s eyes as he dies. But I think the reason I love this so much is because it is the culmination of everything in all five seasons. This is what everything was leading to, and the payoff is glorious. The first time I watched the show, I didn’t think they’d actually go there, but I am so glad they did. (I have a separate post about why.)

3. “Crawl there, Lair.” “Fuck yourself, Castle.” (All of us Villains by Amanda Foody and C.L. Herman, book)

I. Fucking. Screamed. I still scream every time I read this. This was the moment I really started shipping Castlelair. Every interaction they have is so full of contempt and poorly-suppressed attraction, and nothing encapsulates that better than this. They’re so… I actually don’t think I can articulate anything about this. All I can say is, if you haven’t read this book, go do it.

Wow, hmmm, can you tell I have a favourite trope? Look, I know this isn’t one moment, strictly speaking, and I think it might be pushed a little bit higher on the list than it might normally be due to my current hyperfixation, but I love Dreamstat too much to leave him out. He deserves the spotlight. There’s just something about men hallucinating their toxic-relationship exes being soft with them that gets me (again, refer to number two). Okay, but emotional and heart-wrenching Loustat implications aside, Dreamstat is just amazing. Him eating a photo? Hilarious. “Kill me again”? Devastating. “Romeo? He’s barely Balthazar”? Alastair: Feels the same way as you always, will spoil you and want to be spoiled by you as well. will NOT wear a tux. Probably catch him wearing a short dress honestly, with lots of frilly volume, and will wear a white choker, instead of his usually black. HAS ALWAYS WANTED TO TAKE YOUR VIRGINITY, and his life long dream has been realized, will study for MONTHS to be properly prepared. Will definitely cry.

What’s a hobby they used to have that they miss? Alastair, in his childhood and early teens, practiced archery — across verses this applies. However, he stopped it in order to focus on his academic studies more. He hopes to return to archery once he is settled with a career/steady job.

Can they cry on command? If so, what do they think about to make it happen? Alastair’s tears are (almost) always genuine, but he can think about something that has pained him in the past to cry on command. He usually thinks about how worried he is about his step-sister, Madeline, who had to fake her own death post giving birth.

What is their favorite book that they’ve never recommended to anyone before? Alastair doesn’t have a specific favorite book, but rather adores the tales of both King Arthur and Robin Hood. He doesn’t speak of it much as he feels he could be labeled as overly idealistic, or even childish, but he loves those old tales. He even worked on translating the Canterbury Tales in an advanced course he took in secondary school.

(this got way too long i'm sorry lol) don't even get me started on the timeline there's so much that doesn't make sense!! i've tried to map it out because i am insane but i am definitely putting more thought into this than cc herself. like, in the days past 1900 chapter cordelia mentions that she's 13, when it's literally impossible for her to be 13 that year ????

and lowkey i am just very excited to see someone else mention the mess that it is the timeline because i've been thinking about when alastair and thomas must have gone on their travel year (and also during that travel year when thomas must have gone to paris because they wouldn't just give him a holiday immediately right, like it must have been december 1902 they met, yes i am overthinking this) for years lol

my best guess is that charles arranged to marry ariadne in early 1901 but it wasn't officially announced?? it was just an arrangement/promise and then he went to paris and met alastair later that year (though i think they'd already met yikes) and they dated sometime in 1901 (where alastair would have been 16-17 /yikes/), for any of this to work i think we just have to accept that shadowhunters can go on their year abroad before they turn 18, or maybe alastair wanted to get out of the house :( and then maybe charles told alastair of the engagement a little bit into their relationship?? don't even get me started on thomas' travel year, we know it lasted 9 months, was from 1902 to 1903 and he had come back fairly recently in august (and tbh i'm gonna stretch that definition of recent and just say the thieves are all being dramatic when they're still toasting him coming back at the beginning of chog). but he also took two weeks holiday in 1902 and saw alastair (who i have to assume was secretly visiting charles since if he was still on his travel year, he could have just said that instead of being cryptic and hilarious lol) anyways in conclusion the timeline is a mess

i thought cordelia's birthday must be really late in the year but i did not realise this means it would be impossible for her to have her parabatai ceremony lol, okay i can't work out that one unless everyone's straight up lying or don't know their own birthdays

honestly when it comes to timelines, I think cc just kinda says things vaguely enough that it makes sense as long as you don't think about it too hard lmao. Also I did not know Cordelia said she was 13 in 1900... In order for that to be possible she'd have to be born in either 1886 or 1887. I wonder if cc just forgot she had said Cordelia was born in 1885? that seems like the only viable option here 😭

Paris 1902 is so bad because a lot of the things that contradict it are in the same book 💀 like with other stuff at the very least you can give cc the benefit of the doubt that she forgot between writing short stories and whatnot. but the same book!! insanity!!

I don't think there's any way to twist it in order for it to make sense? like something has to be wrong. best I've got is Thomas turned 18 in Jan, went on travel year for roughly 8 months meaning he gets back to London right before the start of ChoG in August. He met Alastair in Paris in like, March or April 1903 when he was finishing up his travel year and Alastair was being cryptic just because. Charles and Alastair met in Sept. 1902 when Alastair went on his travel year to Paris; Charles and Ari are already engaged by this point (technically) and every other conflicting detail gets throw out the nearest window lmao. for me at least, shadowhunters going on their travel year before turning 18 defeats the purpose, which is to go on patrol and fight demons in a different country. and if they were able to at 17, I think there's several characters who would be currently on their travel year, like James and Matthew, and who obviously aren't.

The parabatai ceremony thing is annoying because cc actual reconned it :) in the codex it says you have be in childhood to become parabatai, and this is supported by Jem in clockwork prince. however, in tfsa, Simon is still able to become parabatai with Clary despite already turning 18, so now shadowhunters are considered children up until 19 but this only applies to the parabatai ceremony because in every other aspect of life they become adults at 18. this makes sense (not). personally i am of the option that Cordelia turning 18 and being unable to become parabatai with Lucie would have been more interesting, and added some stakes that chot desperately needed. plus it would be funny if they still became parabatai in the end because Will and Jem pulled some strings (the benefits of nepotism 😌)

the timeline of tlh is one of my great enemies at this point and I've held my tongue about it for far too long, so don't feel bad about rambling! (even if it takes me 3 months to reply 🫣)
