MASS MURDER OF INNOCENT CIVILIANS CONTINUES AS ZIONIST ARMY SYSTEMATICALLY BOMBS HOMES UNTOUCHED BY WAR

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) continued its genocidal war in the Gaza Strip today, Friday, July 5th, targeting the few remaining residential homes and neighborhoods untouched by the Israeli occupation's ongoing bombing campaign.

According to Palestinian public broadcaster PalestineTV, the Zionist army shelled a residential neighborhood in the Sheikh Nasser area, east of Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip, killing two Palestinians who were transported to the Nasser medical complex in the city.

The Israeli atrocities continued when IOF warplanes bombed a residential house in the Nuseirat Camp, in the central Gaza Strip, resulting in the deaths of four Palestinians and wounding several others, while an occupation drone strike targeted a gathering of civilians in the Al-Mawasi area (designated a humanitarian zone), west of the city of Rafah, south of Gaza, killing two more civilians and wounding a number of others.

In another war crime, Zionist aircraft bombed a residential house in the Al-Daraj neighborhood, east of Gaza City, murdering two civilians and wounding at least six others.

Further, local rescue crews reported recovering two dead bodies after an IOF fighter jet bombed a residential home belonging to the Rifai family, also in the Al-Daraj neighborhood, east of Gaza City.

Meanwhile, in reporting published by the Palestinian Ma'an News Agency, the Israeli occupation forces committed another two massacres when occupation air forces bombed a house and a warehouse belonging to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine (UNRWA), in the Al-Maghazi and Nuseirat Camps in central Gaza, killing at least 9 civilians and wounding a number of others.

Zionist warplanes also bombed a house belonging to the Madoukh family, in the Al-Sahaba area of the Al-Daraj neighborhood, east of Gaza City, killing three Palestinians and wounding several others who were transferred to Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in the city.

Local medical sources are also reporting the deaths of two young Palestinian children, and the injury of a number of civilians, after occupation warplanes bombed a house in the Al-Nafaq area in central Gaza City. Casualties were transported to Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in the city of Gaza.

The current death toll as a result of the Israeli occupation's ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip now exceeds 38'011 Palestinians killed, while another 87'445 others have been wounded since the start of the current round of Zionist aggression, beginning with the events of October 7th, 2023.

With the martyrdom of the leader prisoner Walid Daqqah yesterday, the number of martyrs of the prisoner movement inside the occupation's prisons since October 7th, due to torture, abuse, and starvation, in addition to medical negligence, has risen to 14 martyrs. They are:

- The martyr Omar Daraghmeh from Tubas

- The martyr Arafat Hamdan from Ramallah

- The martyr Majed Zaqoul from Gaza

- A fourth martyr whose identity is unknown

- The martyr Abdulrahman Mer’i from Salfit

- The martyr Thaer Abu Asab from Qalqilya

- The martyr Abdulrahman Al-Bahsh from Nablus

- The martyr Mohammed Al-Sabbar from Al-Khalil

- The martyr Khaled Al-Shaweesh from Tubas

- The martyr Izz El-Din Al-Banna from Gaza

- The martyr Asif Al-Rifai from Ramallah

In addition to the wounded detainee Mohammed Abu Sneineh from Al-Quds, who was martyred on 18/2/2024 at “Hadassah” Hospital after being injured and arrested the day before.

Note that the occupation's media has revealed the martyrdom of detainees from Gaza in the occupation's camps, and to this day, the occupation refuses to disclose their identities, in light of its continued execution of the crime of enforced disappearance against the detainees of Gaza after October 7th.

Prisoners institutions report that from October 7th, 2023 to March 19th, 2024, over 7,670 Palestinians have been abducted in the West Banks.

This includes 246 women, including those abducted in the occupied interior, and 500 children.

61 journalists have been abducted, 40 of whom remain imprisoned, and 23 of which are in administrative detention without charge or trial.

4,343 administrative detention orders were given after October 7th, a record high.

The ongoing arrest campaigns since October 7th are accompanied by escalating violations, including brutal beatings and assaults, threats against detainees and their families, destruction and vandalism of citizens' homes, vehicle confiscation, money, and gold jewelry, in addition to extensive destruction of infrastructure, especially in Tulkarem (https://t.me/PalestineResist/26083?single) and Jenin (https://t.me/PalestineResist/25777?single).

In addition to these arrests, the IOF carried out field executions, including against members of the detainees' families.

At least 13 prisoners were martyred in the occupation's prisons and camps after October 7th:

The number of prisoners exceeds 9,100, among them 3,558 administrative detainees held without charge or trial. 793 are classified as "unlawful combatants" from the detainees of Gaza

“Health Status Update of Cancer-Stricken Prisoner Asif Al-Rifai

The Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Authority released a report today detailing the health status of the sick prisoner Asif Al-Rifai (21 years old) from Ramallah. Al-Rifai is suffering from the spread of cancer in various parts of his body, including the liver, abdominal wall, colon, glands, intestines, and urinary tract.

This situation is exacerbated by the deliberate medical negligence of the occupying forces, implementing a policy of slow killing against our prisoners in jails.

The Commission, citing its lawyer who visited Al-Rifai two days ago, stated that the prisoner did not receive his last chemotherapy dose due to his body's weakness and inability to endure it. Al-Rifai has undergone more than 18 previous sessions. He is transported to ‘Asaf Harofeh’ Hospital for his sessions, where a chemotherapy needle is attached to his body for 48 hours before being returned to the Ramleh Hospital until the treatment is completed. Al-Rifai also suffers from a kidney problem that required the installation of an external urine bag connected to the kidney to assist him.

Al-Rifai's condition has significantly deteriorated due to the harsh measures taken by the prison service since the start of the war on the Gaza Strip on 07/10/2023. After the prison administration banned canteen access and withdrew all the prisoners' special food items, they deliberately provided poor-quality food. This has led to a further decline in the prisoner's condition and a sharp decrease in his weight.”

Propagandists are exploiting Syria’s suffering to win the information war in Gaza

Videos of Aleppo – where the Assad regime's tanks fired on my grandparents in their home – are being circulated as clips from Gaza

In one video, children cry amid rubble. In another, explosions rip through residential neighbourhoods. The images have gone viral on X (formerly Twitter), purporting to be from the ongoing chaos in Israel and Gaza. They actually originate from the war in Syria – including my family’s besieged hometown of Aleppo, where the Assad regime’s tanks once fired on my grandparents’ home while they were still inside.

They are not isolated examples, and the proliferation of misinformation on X is now so extreme that the European Commission began an official investigation last week. The past week has proved that the site is now unable to effectively tackle the spread of falsehoods in a time of crisis. Elon Musk must act quickly to prevent more harm.

In this case, the images aren’t just being used to delegitimise the state of Israel. Many of the videos are of Syrian cities and civilians, largely due to Syria’s geographic adjacency to Israel-Palestine, and their use constitutes a dangerous form of atrocity revisionism. Attributing crimes committed by the Syrian regime and the Russian government to other regional actors gives way to the erasure of Bashar al-Assad and Vladimir Putin’s culpability in the destruction of multiple Syrian cities.

And yet still the images flow. Just hours after the start of Hamas’ attack last weekend, a viral video purported to show missile fire from Gaza toward Israel. Only after receiving millions of views did a Community Note appeared below the post pointing to the source as a three-year-old video, most likely from Syria. Although this helped to mitigate the unchallenged spread of the video, the lag in its implementation created a window of irreversible misinformation.

In another, now-deleted post, a video of the Assad regime bombing the Syrian town of Ariha, which was happening concurrent to the outbreak of the Israel-Gaza war, was represented as the Israeli Defence Forces bombing the Gaza Strip. This post garnered over a million views before its deletion, giving cover to the Assad regime in real-time as it used the chaos in Israel and Gaza to amplify its siege of rebel-held northern Syria. These strikes included attacks against at least ten schools and multiple other sites of civilian assembly in my family’s home governorates of Aleppo and Idlib.

The prevalence of misattributed Syria videos only continues to grow as the Israeli offensive against Hamas intensifies, effectively rewriting the Assad regime’s crimes. A several-year-old video of a crying Syrian child during the Assad regime’s siege of Aleppo, purported to be a Palestinian in Gaza, received millions of views in total.

By far the most egregious appropriation of Syrian suffering has been the dissemination of an image of child victims of the Eastern Ghouta gas attacks committed by the Assad regime, which killed hundreds of Syrians a decade ago. An influencer posted the image, claiming that the pictured children were Palestinians “murdered” by Israel, a claim which millions saw. Incredibly, this was even reposted by US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.

As the Israel-Gaza information war rages on X, it is all too clear that the Community Note system is unable to keep up with the real-time spread of rapidly viral misinformation — even reaching the eyes of unwitting American politicians. Despite being detached from the hostilities in Israel and Gaza, Syrian civilians like my now-passed grandparents have become the unknown victims of a new revisionist misinformation ecosystem enabled by a platform that incentivises and promotes content made purely for clicks, not truth. They deserve better.
