It was a Sunday, and despite staying up for ungodly hours, you still woke up 5 hours than you usually do. Instead of falling back to sleep, you decided to actually get your ass off the bed instead of embracing the soft covers of your soft bed. While waiting for the coffeemaker to heat up, a ping! suddenly emitted from your phone, laying face down on the table.

Curious about who's texting you this early, you checked the notification.

Akne 6:32am: Do you want to hang out later? ❤️❤️❤️

A loud 'huh??' escaped past your lips before you even know it. Staring at the text with a disbelief look, a million thoughts crossed your mind. Panic was slowly building up as you asked yourself if this guy- Akane- hit his head, got dementia, got kidnapped, or just accidentally sent it to the wrong person–

Akne 6:32am: Wait sorry wrong person

Akne 6:32am: That was meant for Ao-chan.

You blinked, feeling your heartbeat calm down before you let out a relieved sigh. Of course, he had sent it to you as a mistake. Jesus. You could almost feel your eyeballs popping out and falling clean off if he hadn't sent that text. You took a screenshot of his message just in case. Typing out your own, you replied,

You stared at your phone, waiting for his response. But after waiting for a few minutes, you got bored and were about to close the screen until another notification popped up. You snorted upon reading it.

Akne 6:35am: Ew

With a stiffled chuckle, you placed your phone ontop the table. With the coffeemaker finished, you continued to make your coffee, looking out at the window, rays of sunlight gently beaming, making a form of your window as it gives warmth inside the house.

Thinking for a moment, an idea formed in your head and you grabbed your phone again to send another message.

Idiot 6:38am: is that offer still up tho?

On the other side of the phone, the owner had his head shoved inside his crossed arms. If someone saw him in that position, they'd assume it was probably cause of Aoi's rejection at his offer to go out, again. Not that it was the first time, he was used to it, actually. Face flushed in red, he was too busy reminiscing the sound of her cute, tired voice until he faintly heard a notification beside him on the table.

Hiis head slightly lifted up in curiosity, huffing after figuring that it was probably you. The memory of sending that text, with hearts too and to the wrong person– made his face heat up and he sucked in his breath in embarrassment, taking five minutes to stare at his phone frozen before grabbing it to turn on the bright screen.

Reading the text, a blank expression painted his face before replying.

Akne 6:39am: No

Putting his phone down again, he breathed out a quiet sigh, feeling a bit cold inside his room. He took a sip of his coffee, staring out of his window that faces a part of his crush's house, coincidentally facing her window too.

It felt like his movements were starting to become automatic. His body was moving on its own before he could even think for the reason. And just like sipping his coffee, he didn't register how he was taking frequent glances at his phone, how his ears were perked up to hear that familiar notification bell.

If only he hadn't sent that message.

That small mistake still made a vibrant blush rush to his face, making him rub his forehead and wished he would've had called Aoi instead. He was relieved it wasn't someone else like Lemon or Yashiro, if that were the case, he can kiss his dignity bye bye.

Ping!

He looked up from his hand, already grabbing the phone a bit too quickly than he'd liked.

Akane scans over the text before his face drops into a tired expression again. Man, what did he expect of a response from you.

Idiot 6:40am: make some friends bro

Akne 6:41am: This is why we don't hang out outside of school

Idiot 6:41am: ur already showing your friendless behaviour

An irritated huff was exhaled from his nose, but he knows he wouldn't be able to keep that fustration for long anyway. He tries to resist the small smile that's creeping up to his face, a sign of what he only described as enjoyment to their usual bickering and bantering and nothing more. It'd be absurb to feel anything more than just having a little fun, right?

That's what Akane always thought when it comes to you, even when he always makes time to reply to your nonsensical texts, even when his heart was thumping in a fast beat as he stares at the phone screen.

Idiot 6:44am: swear you have the fastest mood swings known to man

He rolls his eyes, contradicting to his soft smile.

Akne 6:46am: What's fastest is how fast you get on my nerves

Idiot 6:46am: sadly you werent fast enough to delete that message 🤧

Akne 6:46am: I can be fast enough to go to your house and beat your ass

You huff, offended before it turns into a light giggle. Days like these, with only you two bickering like assholes to each other, were the best to live for. Putting down your phone for the 5th time this morning. Whatever, you thought. You didn't know why you hoped he would keep that offer open–

Akane fidgets with the phonecase, deleting texts over and over again– before eventually the only letter left was 'h', to which he deleted as well.

Tapping the hard desk in synchronised rhythm, his eyes were glued to the screen as he mused on what to say– if he even wanted to say anything. Shouldn't he just leave it as that? Why is it that he was itching for more of your messages, whether it was another round of bullying each other or talking about random things like the movie he had watched with Aoi, or the dead snake you saw by the street– Sighing, he kept typing and deleting before settling with one sentence, reading it over and over like it'll magically change in the 5th read, before sending.

Akne 6:52am: Do you still want to hang out?

Taking a loud sip of his cup, the notification sound effect wasn't needed to get his attention when his eyes were deliberately waiting for your response– and here you go again.

Idiot 6:52am: what did I say about your mood swings

Akne 6:52am: I take it back, you can rot

You let out a cackling laugh, his reactions not failing to wipe away your boredom as easily like a tissue. You stare at the phone with a growing smile. The bright shine encasting your figure makes your faint blush more noticeable.

Akne 6:53am: Ok

Idiot 6:53am: no heart for me?

An amused huff was exhaled from his nose.

Aoi was turned sometime around the Meiji period, just before her sixteenth birthday. She came from a rather traditionalist family, which held steadfast to strict gender roles and old-fashioned ideals despite the world changing around them. (I can't give the rest of her backstory away, or else it'd spoil) For reasons unknown as of now, she's stranded in the forest by herself. She's jumpy, afraid, and most of all, hungry. It's difficult to hunt by yourself, after all. She's beginning to regret that decision she made about a hundred years ago. She can't remember the exact number of years at this point.

੭﹕ ̊ ̟ ꒷꒦ Yashiro Nene 🦢⋆｡𖦹꒷꒦

Nene attends Kamome Academy, an elite boarding school where she has been unable to make any friends her age. She has a sort of complex about being worthy of going there in the first place. Her upperclassman and roommate, Minami, often lets Nene hang out with her and her friend (girlfriend?) Himari, since she wants to inspire Nene to open up and make friends. Nene ends up getting lost in the forest that lies behind the school gates with a broken flashlight and dead phone. All she can do now is hope that the supposed monster that lies at the heart of the forest doesn't consume her.

੭﹕ ̊ ̟ ꒷꒦ Aoi Akane 🦢⋆｡𖦹꒷꒦

Akane is from the meiji period as well, though he rose from the dead in an entirely different way. (I can't say what he is because it would spoil it too, but dw terukane is coming in 1 sec) He's constantly harassed by an exorcist named Teru, who plans to eliminate him. Akane struggles to remember how he died, so he's unable to recall his unfinished business/reason for being resurrected. Teru begrudgingly decides to help him figure out how he died, just so he can get rid of him. No other reason.

Mitsukou is a part of this universe, too !! Kou is still an exorcist who wishes to follow in Teru's footsteps. But, instead, Sousuke is a vampire sired by Tsukasa, who has lost all recollection of his past. Kou isn't quite sure what to do about a vampire ... but he seems harmless, so maybe all he needs is a friend?

I know I might've been a bit vague, but I actually have some writing drabbles/oneshots. Maybe a series planned for this? So far, I mostly have the aoinene storyline planned out, but if things go well, I'll write the terukane and mitsukou ones as well !! I've just been making a bunch of aus to try and nail the characters down since it's a good way for me to try and define their traits.
