notes: based off of this post on bokuto. i had this in my drafts unfinished but then lexi when you sent the ask with the prompt i was inspired to finish this. honestly this ended up being like a love letter to bokuto. you know when actors get into the scenes they do? well i got overly invested in writing this and almost cried. (kinda feel embarrassed saying that) but anyways i hope you enjoy!

it isn’t abnormal for bokuto to go missing during practice. in fact, in more recent times, it has become a common occurrence. unfortunately this leads to a lot of problems for the fukurōdani vbc.

the team as per usual is running practice, and noticeably missing is their ace/captain. their coach isn’t happy at all that bokuto isn’t present and is screaming demands that ‘someone better find him or so god help me’. the players and managers didn’t have to be told twice.

so imagine your surprise when you step into the gym to see a very flustered akaashi.

the minute his eyes land on you, relief floods his system. the setter walks over to you hastily. “i’m glad you showed up. do you happen to know of bokuto-sans’ whereabouts?”

“he’s not here?” you blink, and that alone causes the whole team to groan out of misery. if you, his own significant other didn’t know where he was, then they were really screwed.

your heart pangs when you realize you’re of no help to them. “i’m sorry. i only came to give koutarou notes for alegbra class so he can study for his test. what’s going on?” you frown, sensing you were missing part of a bigger picture.

“no one has been able to find that idiot since before practice started.” konoha sighs, rolling his eyes at the thought.

“when practice isn’t going well for him he tends to hide in different places. i think he ran out of spots in the gym because we haven’t been able to find him anywhere so far.” komi adds.

“now that i think about it, i think bokuto-san maybe going through some sort of slump right now. he hasn’t been in the best of moods in recent practices either…” akaashi notes.

you nod, sighing. “i see now. i might be able to figure out where he is, but it’s not guaranteed. do you guys mind just holding on a bit longer while i go get him?”

“of course, we appreciate any and all of your help.” the blue-eyes boy smiles with relief before bowing out of gratitude.

you take no time to run out of the gym, going to the one place you know of. if he isn’t there-which you are adamant he is, with no doubt-not only you but a whole volleyball team would be doomed.

and that only makes you sprint faster to the rooftop.

the rooftop is yours and bokutos go to place. you went there during lunch, on break, whenever bokuto didn’t have practice. it was a place where both of you had made many memories together and shared many things that only the two of you knew between each other.

somehow, the ace had squeezed himself he always did that to make himself smaller. comically, though, you aren’t sure that that really works with someone of his size.

“kou?” you call.

the frosted tipped boy turns his head and instantly hits his head on the roof of the table. you try your best not to laugh out loud at his clumsiness by biting your fist.

“ow…” he rubs his head, pouting.

you bend down so you’re level with him, you hand reaching out to cradle his head. “are you alright?”

“m’fine.” he grunts.

a sigh escapes you. “you want to tell me why you’re up here and not at practice?”

“…” he hides his face.

“hey,” you call out, reaching for his hand. “you know you can tell me anything, right?”

he nods, tucking his chin in his arms again. “‘is just…am i a good captain?”

you tilt your head to the side, blinking. “huh? where is this coming from?”

his expression is one of slight guilt and pain. almost as if he’d done something wrong. “the other week when we had a match i overheard some of the guys from the other team,” he explains, “they were saying how bad they felt for our team because of how they have to deal and put up with me.”

“and they also said that,” he swallows, “they don’t see how i could’ve ever became captain.”

you feel your heart physically ache. “kou-”

“i mean they’re right, akaashi does such a better job of managing the team than i do.” he laughs bitterly. “everyone always has to help me but what do i do for other people? am i really that much of a nuisance?” he finally looks at you and his golden eyes are hazy.

your heart absolutely shatters, in awe that bokuto was withholding all of these emotions. he hadn’t seen this upset in the past few days, but you feel like you failed at not seeing that. holding his hand tighter, you wish desperately that the barrier of the table isn’t in your way.

“what do you do for other people?” you repeat, pushing back his hair. “do you really not know?”

he makes a noise of discontent.

“you have helped so many people. more than you ever know.” you beam, smiling at him with gratitude. “you help this team stay motivated when times are hard. hell, akaashi is a great vice captain but he’d really struggle without your optimism. sometimes it’s good to be around those who hold a different perspective on life. not even just volleyball.” you say, looking out at the sky.

“you help people beyond this team too. everyday we come into school and people brighten up and smile because of you. you and kuroo have a great rivalry and friendship, you helped hinata and you’ve inspired him to become ace. did you know he looks up to you? like, a lot? you helped tsukishima find a love and passion for volleyball again. that’s big. you inspire so many people to find passion in things and you don’t even know it.

“you know when we first met?” i had just moved here and didn’t know anyone. i was really nervous but the first person i saw was you. you were so friendly-a little aggressive sometimes from excitement-and you made sure i wasn’t alone or lost. i swear i was going to go blind because your smile was so bright.” you laugh, and your heart skips when you hear him laugh with you.

you cup his face in your hands and see him visibly melt at your touch. his eyes close as he leans into your palm. “you are so smart and kind, and you care so much about other people. so don’t you dare say that you don’t bring anything of value to your team.” you huff, pinching his cheek.

“i can’t be that smart. i failed my last algebra test.” he points out.

the corner of your mouth twitches. did he ignore everything you just said? “math is overrated!” you exclaim, “grades don’t define you. the point is, is that you have a lot of wisdom to offer to your younger classmen. you bokuto koutaro, are the most amazing person i know.” you kiss his cheek and he turns, capturing your lips against his. His large hand holds your face gently. he tries to move his arm to hold your waist but struggles, finally settling on placing his other hand on the other side of your face. when you try to pull back for air, he doesn’t budge.

“kou…can’t…breathe.” you wheeze, detaching yourself from him and standing up.

bokuto whines your name quietly, disliking that he is already separated from you. he’s squirming before he finally is up from under the table.

“i’m in desperate need of a hug.” he pouts. his hands fidget at his side and you can tell he’s really dejected when he doesn’t reach out to hold you.

you reach up and pull him to you, catching him off guard slightly. the minute your arms wrap around his neck he’s slipping his own around your waist.

“the best…” he mumbles into your neck, his burly arms clinging onto you tightly. it’s a little hard for you to breathe again, but this time you don’t mind really.

“thank you for being with me and understanding me. i love you.” he says softly, kissing you out of appreciation. tears stream down his face when he feels himself becoming overwhelmed again.

“i love you always.” wiping his tears away you speak again, “you have a whole team counting on you, they’re expecting you to lead them to great things and you will, because you’re their captain and their ace. there’s only one bokuto koutaro and he’s irreplaceable.”

his golden eyes light up and a smile slowly spreads across his face. finally, there was your boy.

“hey, hey, hey, baby you’re right! no one can out do the doer!” he springs up and to your own surprise he picks you up and spins you around. you squeal, laughing, hands gripping onto him tightly as if he’d drop you but he never has and he never will.

the minute he puts you down he’s kissing you feverishly, his kisses are energetic but gentle at the same time. he knows that when it comes to kissing there’s only so much yet not enough of him that you can get.

bokuto squeezes your hand, looking at you with an abundance of affection. if anyone saw him, they would think that he kisses the ground you walk on. “you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me. dunno what i’d do without you.”

“cry maybe.” you joke, laughing.

“most likely.” he replies, pouting a little bit.

patting his cheek you tug him towards the door. “no more tears okay? want to see your handsome smile. now let’s go. your team is worried about you. they were in distress when i came into the gym earlier.”

he hums and clings onto you, not letting very much space between the two of you as you both walk back.

and years down the road when bokuto is a pro player, interviewed, and asked who his number one supporter and inspiration is, the first name is always and will always be yours.

Pairing : Akaashi x fem!reader. BUT the focus is more on Akaashi, Bokuto, Kuroo and Kenma as a (chaotic) friend group !

Summary : Akaashi is about to introduce you to his closest friends. He hopes that everything will go smoothly but deep down he knows that when your friends are Kuroo, Kenma and Bokuto, things rarely go according to the plan.

Warning : none really. It’s chaotic because I live for chaos. My super introvert friend (hiii hellooo heyy ! If your read this thank you again for your feedback) said that Bokuto tired them out just by reading him (just like in canon). So I guess if you are super introvert beware to be drained from all your energy. Also you may want to fight Kuroo and wipe his grin off his face, but like always no ?

This is also my first time sharing and most importantly writing , so I hope you will enjoy it. “We may have to wait for some time.” Akaashi warned his friends, absentmindedly twisting his fingers, his anxiety level obviously rising. “She may be a little bit late.”

“We are literally 20 min early. Why on earth would she already be here.” Interjected an over-the-top dramatic Kuroo.

“What do you mean TWENTY MINUTES early?? Are you telling me that we CLEARLY had enough time to stop at the purikura to take some awesome pictures? I really wanted to do it and yall said nah!” Betrayal and hurt were written all over the equally dramatic owlish man face. But neither Akaashi nor Kuroo had the time to address the moody ace’s complaint because of a lower but colder voice entering the game.

“That’s absurd Kenma, twenty minutes! T-W-E-N-T-Y, it’s not enough for a full or even a partial battery charge.”

“Way enough for me tho.”

“You know what, WHATEVER. There is no way, hear me out, no way that you will spend your time playing instead of interacting with her!”

Anticipating an attack, Kenma strongly grabbed his phone in his pocket for protection purpose. “I do what I want.”

“It’s rude.”

“It’s not.”

“It is.”

“Is not.”

High-schooler behavior. Thought Akaashi, too unbothered to interrupt the duo, or rather too preoccupied to trouble himself playing their game.

“WHO CARES ABOUT YOUR SWITCH, you still have your phone anyway!!” lamented a dejected Bokuto. “Nee Akaasheee why did you say no when you knew we obviously have enough time ??”

Oh, please no, not Emo Bokuto. Are we back in high school??? Akaashi was deep in thought, no emotion showing, mind racing to hastily find an adequate answer. And he really had to be fast before Kuroo opened his mouth and aggravated the situa -

“AS IF YOU ARE ABLE TO TAKE ONE PICTURE OF YOURSELF IN LESS THAN FIVE MINUTES??? And you want us to believe that you would be able to take five group pictures, add custom drawings and writings, pay, and print it in just twenty minutes?”

Oh no, too late.

“I am totally capable of doing everything you just said, you hater.” He was too boisterous, Akaashi didn’t like that, not at all. “You know what let’s go now. If we run, we can be there in less than five minutes. AND FOR YOUR INFORMATION, I can do all this in only fifteen minutes.” Dumbfounded. There were no other words to describe Kuroo and Akaashi’s reaction. Hence their silence and lack of action. “COME ON LET’S GO. We are losing time. You’re doing this on purpose Kuroo, you cheater! »

“Bokuto.”

“Yes Kenma.”

Kenma was too apathetic while Bokuto was too hyped, which presages nothing good for the latter’s mood. “Five minutes already passed. Plus, it may take us five minutes to go but also five minutes to come back. So, we only will have five minutes to take the pictures. And it’s the weekend, all the high school girls are out and queuing to do their own pictures. Let it go.” Silence again.

Kuroo was avoiding Akaashi’s death glare. He was aware that he spilled the tea and caused this whole drama. Kenma was on edge, Bokuto was … clearly sniffing and nearly sobbing and Akaashi was ready to kill him because you would be welcomed in this sour mood. But no worry, after all, he is the famous and lovely Kuroo Tetsuro. As ‘Japan Volleyball Association Sports Promotion Division Representative’, he got to polish and refine his favorite skill of his: smooth talking. “Well then just fifteen minutes left to wait. Not that bad uh. Still better than one eternity.” A loud silence was his only answer. “You know guys, like in SpongeBob. ’One eternity later’. ” Silence again sprinkled with judgy glares. Ouch. He might need to level up his game apparently.

Oh, it’s going to be a long afternoon. You know what, lost for lost… “Actually, we still have to wait twenty minutes.” Blatantly admitted Akaashi who was already tired.

“Say sike now Akaashi, because we clearly agreed on twenty minutes because of these two-man children.” Dramatic Kuroo was back.

“Kuro.”

“Yes Kenma.”

“You’re a man child too.”

Enlighten by this new piece of information, Kuroo turned his head toward Akaashi so fast that the four of them heard a pop. “Akaashi, I can’t believe it. You. YOU, the responsible one, do not trust me?”

So dramatic, it made Akaashi roll his eyes. “No, I do not”.

Kuroo’s gasp was loud. “Care to tell me why so?”

“The Hakone Trip.” The three other men responded with one voice and no hesitation.

“I THOUGHT WE AGREED TO NEVER TALK ABOUT THE HAKONE TRIP EVER AGAIN!”

PING

A notification. Akaashi could ignore Kuroo and Bokuto’s antics much to his delight.

As he was about to answer, he got interrupted by his former schoolmate. “Is that her??? Are you going to call her?? Can I say hello?? If not tell her I say hello.”

“I am just going to answer her text Bokuto-san. She will be there in 20 min, you can wait.” Getting ready to unlock his phone, he was once again interrupted.

“Since when is this your background?? I thought it was a picture of some onigiri from Onigiri Miya that ‘you adore so much but can't have here in Tokyo’.” interrogated Kuroo.

“Yes, it was.”

“Why did you change? Last time we took a dope group picture and refuse to set it as your new Lock Screen.”

Unphased, he unlocked his phone. “Bold of you to assume I want to see your face every time I check my phone.”

“You didn’t answer the question tho.” Kuroo was still behind his back.

“Have you ever heard the expression curiosity killed the cat?” Akaashi tried to focus on his two priority tasks: responding to you and ignoring his annoying friend.

“But satisfaction brought it back.” Completed Kuroo boldly.” Soooo, why? Usually, change is not really your forte?”

“Please Akaashi just answer otherwise he won't shut up and we are spending the whole afternoon with him.” Kenma intervened, as direct as ever.

Your exchange was over, he has no excuse to not answer. “Y/n saw the picture and asked me to change. It made her hungry and eager to try some, but she can’t yet because they are only available in Ōsaka.”

Kuroo sported a sly smile that made Akaashi’s blood boiled. But thankfully, before the former had the chance to add his sarcastic input, Bokuto asked:” So you choose a volleyball picture! Where is it from? It looks cool !!”

“I asked Udai-sensei if he could doodle something really quick and that’s what he proposed.”

“Wait, so it’s custom? It’s even cooler. Do you think he would be okay to draw me while I spike? I want a cool Lock Screen too.”

“I can still as-”

PING

“Y/n again?”

“Yes Bokuto-san, just let me answer her question quickly.” As he was typing, the two older men got closer to him, close enough to be able to sneak a glance at his screen. But discretion was never one of their qualities. “Are you two for real? You are reading my conversation without asking ??”

“And you, you are checking her grammar. You’re a bigger nerd than I am!” snorted Kuroo.

“Don’t be like that Kuroo, Akaashi has been checking my grammar and my kanji since high school. It’s really helpful.” advanced Bokuto to a not-so-convinced Kuroo.

“She is a foreigner. She asked me to do so to help her get better at communicating.”

“You see, told you so.” Bokuto was proud. “Now I don’t care about grammar.”

“Yeah, no joke.” Kuroo couldn’t restrain himself.

Bokuto ignored him. In fact, nobody paid him any attention. “Show me her contact picture, this is more interesting.”

Akaashi complied capturing his two older friends’ attention one more time.

“Wait, it’s a drawing, again?” Bokuto was perplexed.

“Of an anime character.” Added Kuroo also in disarray.

His interest having been peaked, Kenma detached his gaze from his phone and looked at the picture. “Oh, it’s Inosuke from Kimetsu no Yaiba. He’s pretty popular. Quite surprised she didn’t choose a Hashira tho.”

“Her favorite character is indeed a Hashira. But she said she had a spiritual connection with Inosuke’s lack of braincells. Therefore, it’s a good fit for her contact picture.”

“So, she chose her contact picture, and you did what she told you to ?” Asked Kuroo with a shit-eating grin.

Akaashi remembered why in high school he nicknamed Kuroo ‘Pain-in-the-ass Kuroo-san’. And he started second guessing his decision of inviting Kuroo to this first meeting as the bad feeling in the back of his mind became more and more prominent. But before he got the time to respond, Bokuto talked again. “The drawing is nice and all. But, man, I really wanted to see what she looks like.”

“Bokuto we are literally going to see her in fifteen minutes from now.”

“I know Kenma. But what if she is pretty?" Even if they didn’t understand where he was going, they let him keep talking anyway. “I mean, clearly if Akaashi enjoys talking with her it means that she is somehow intellectually stimulating, quick-witted and highbrow.”

The others were exchanging puzzled looks. Since when did Bokuto know expressions such as ‘intellectually stimulating’ or ‘highbrow’? Kuroo was the first to talk. “How can you say that when you just learned that Inosuke is her spirit animal? On her contact picture she even added ‘No thoughts head empty’.”

“My sisters always say that in order to know whether you think or not, you actually have to be sharp, like you know, think a lot and be supersmart and all.”

Sometimes Bokuto-san is scaringly brilliant, thought Akaashi. Well, he always has been, how to phrase it, ‘emotionally intelligent’ but guessing that rapidly like that …

“Akaashi, I don’t like your silence at all. I am correct, right???” Bokuto started to get agitated again.

“You do worry for nothing Bokuto-san. She is quite easy-going.” tried to reassure Akaashi.

“SO, YOU’RE SAYING THAT SHE IS INTELLIGENT A-N-D COOL? No sorry, can’t do that!”

“Since when are you intimidated by girls Bokuto?” Asked Kuroo. “Usually, your sheer stupidity grants you an amazing boldness. Where is it now? “

“Kuroo, my bro, my guy, my dude. Yes, my coolness comes for my shining and stunning personality but mostly from my incredible volleyball skills and my magnetizing presence on the court. We are literally in the middle of the street. THE STREET. I am not in my element to impress a cool, intelligent, AND pretty girl. Try to follow please.“

“Bokuto, my friend, my brother, homie. Akaashi never said that she was pretty. Right Akaashi? “

Damn. Does Kuroo have a special power or something like that to always choose the answer that will worsen the situation? Thought Akaashi at lost for words while three pairs of eyes were fixing him in anticipation. I should not lie to them as they are going to see by themselves in ten minutes how beautiful y/n is. But if I say so now, chaos will ensue.

“Oh my god. You are right bro.” Kuroo’s voice was uncharacteristically quiet.

“I AM OUT!” Bokuto was a mess.

“Hell, no you are not.” Kenma cut the both of them.

Akaashi was relieved. Finally, a voice of reason. Somebody in my corner in this terrible situation.

“You stay here and I peace out.” In less than ten words, Kenma managed to destroy all of Akaashi’s hopes. “Only one of us can be absent. Otherwise, it’s rude.”

“Oh yeah, now you’re concerned about what is rude and what is not, REALLY?” Kuroo strikes back not intimidated by Kenma’s deadly glare.

“And why are you the one who gets to leave and avoid being humiliated ???” Bokuto was still a mess.

“Both of you are extroverted. I am not. You’ll find a way to deal with the situation.”

“You literally stream thrice a week for I don’t even know for how many people. What are you even talking about ??” Kuroo won’t back down.

“Yeah, you said it. Stream. Online. In my room. Not in face of actual people. And certainly not talking face to face with a ‘cool, intelligent, and pretty girl’. So cut me some slack, would you ??”

“Heck no. I am the one leaving.” Kuroo theatrically placed his hands on Bokuto’s shoulders and looked him dead in the eyes. “Bokuto you are panicking for nothing. We all know it. You love meeting new people. And y/n being all that is just a plus in your book. So, focus please. Like just chill.” He then turns towards Kenma. “As for you. Stop being a child. And work on your anxiety. Meeting y/n right now is a good exercise.”

“Stop trying to be so sly and just let me leave, Kuro.”

“I AM LEAVING KENMA NOT YOU.”

“But you love meeting new people too. What are you even talking about? We are friends with most of our friends because you can’t shut your big mouth.”

“Kenma. Listen carefully. Since when am I able to talk with girls?”

With that, Kenma, knowing Kuroo so well, had no conter argument to offer and simply went silenced. After some time though Bokuto let a weak: “Bro stop caping.”

“Bo. Why do you think Nekoma had no manager while I was captain??”

“Kuroo, that was 6 years ago.” Bokuto tried to rationalize.

“And no girl wanted to be our manager because you, goofball, discussed with Yaku and Kai what your type of girl was. In the middle of the fricking class. And so loudly. The words passed among girls of all classes each school year. And they all agreed to not be in contact with the volleyball club because of that. You were even fighting with Yaku about hair length. How embarrassing. Nothing to do with you per se.” Kenma was merciless. “Also. You talk with Alisa just fine.”

Kuroo started laughing. “Alisa? Alisa Haiba as in Lev’s older sister ??” Kenma nodded which made Kuroo laugh even more hysterically. He was even holding his ribs. But after some time, he calmed himself down. “So, you’re talking about LEV’S SISTER who is as easygoing as he is, which is a real plus, but also as much of an airhead as him. Don’t get me wrong. Bokuto is my best bro, so we can say I have a soft spot for this kind of people. But it is stupidly easy to talk with her and even if I say the most stupid or cringey things ever, most, if not all of it goes way over her head. And she lets things slide because we are Lev’s friends. I mean, even you, Kenma, you’re somewhat friend with her, and since high school for the matter.” Kenma was silent again, but Kuroo kept talking. “No for example Tora’s little sister, you know Akane, the sport journalist?”

“YEAH. She made a really cool article about me last season. She perfectly described my over the world strength and al-“

“Well.” Kuroo interrupted Bokuto who was going on a never-ending tangent. “As a representative for the Japan Volleyball Association Sports Promotion Division, I got to work with her. It’s been seven years that we know each other but she still looks at me with disdain in her eyes just like in high school. None of my jokes are landing, can you believe it?”

It’s your jokes the problem. Thought Akaashi and by the look on Kenma’s face he wasn’t the only one to think so.

The later sighed hard and sarcastically added. “Kuro. Stop being a child. And work on your speaking skills with girls. Meeting y/n right now is a good exercise.” It was Kuroo’s turn to glare at his childhood friend.

“You know what. I have a great idea.” It was Bokuto talking which make Akaashi’s blood turned iced-cold. “Akaashi.” Bokuto turned towards his old friend. “My favorite kōhai.” He sported a way too forced bright smile. “You who always know what must be done for the good of the team.” His tone was sickeningly sweet.” How about, you just cancel the meeting? Tell y/n that something came up last minute, will you?”

“Bokuto-san. She will be there in five minutes. She knows we are here already. I am NOT cancelling anything because of your last minutes doubts. She really wants to meet you and I really want you to meet her.”

Akaashi’s tone was firm. And Bokuto saw that this meeting was particularly important for his dear friend, so he backed down. A little bit only. “How about we invite somebody else who will be able to talk with her?” Bokuto took his phone out. “I’m calling Tsukki. He’s smart, it will do the charm.”

Kuroo facepalmed. “Bokuto, he lives in Sendai. And he never picks up his phone when we call him. What are you thinking?”

“I’ll call Shōyō. Everybody loves him. He gets along with everyone and can talk to anybody.” Kenma was looking at his phone ready to call Hinata.

“What?? Bokuto, I get it, it’s like the norm. But you too Kenma? Why are you not using your brain? We’re off season. Chibi-chan is spending time with his family. IN SENDAI !!” Kuroo was loud again which could be seen as a good thing, maybe.

Kenma put his phone back in his pocket, but Bokuto was still looking at his contact list. “Okay. Fair enough. But I found the perfect candidate: Atsumu!”

“Are you talking about your doofus of setter who tripped on thin air during a meet and greet in front of hundreds of people and TV cameras?” Kuroo was snarky.

“Yeah exactly!! Tsumtsum is really nice and, hum funneeeee and -”

“He is as much of a cataclysm as I am.” Kuroo did not even let Bokuto finish his sentence. “And also. One more time. We’re off season. He’s spending time with his brother in ŌSAKA.”

“Oh yeah right. I forgot my bad. Just let me think a bit... Okay! I have the real deal. I don’t know why I didn’t think about him first. He is really intelligent and classy.” The others were attentive. “I am of course talking about the one and only OmiOmi!!”

Kuroo took a deep breath pinching his nose. “Are you talking about Sakusa-san, your teammate, right now?”

“Yeah, Sakusa, OmiOmi same person. AND HE LIVES IN TOKYO.” Bokuto was boisterous.

Kuroo stance stayed unchanged. “So. You’re in deed talking about Sakusa-san. The SAKUSA-SAN who hates meeting new people ? No I am not fair, wait.” He stopped talking and faked behind deep in thought. “You’re suggesting the SAKUSA-SAN who hates spending times with other people, aren't you ??”

Bokuto abruptly deflated and put his phone away. “Oh yeah never mind.”

Silence ? With Bokuto-san and Kuroo? I don’t like. The situation is going from bad to worse. I am not serene at all, it is too quiet for my liking. And sadly, for Akaashi’s nerves, he was right. Suddenly the three of them became restless.

“AGAASHEEE. I NEED TO KNOW ON A SCALE FROM KUROO’S FACE TO AS BEAUTIFUL AS MY SPIKE WHERE DO YOU PLACE Y/N BEAUTY?”

Kuroo was too panicked to be offended but Akaashi talked before him. “Please do not ask such stupid questions Bokuto-san. I beg you.”

Kuroo noticed Akaashi’s ears, neck and even face becoming a little bit red and decided to launch the attack that he had been plotting for twenty minutes now. “IS Y/N YOUR GIRLFRIEND?”

Akaashi’s eyes went wide open before saying: “You know what. I’d rather you ask all your stupid questions before she gets there.”

“I just ask because if it’s the case, we would all be less awkward.” Lied Kuroo.

“Can you shut up, you dork. We have more urgent matter now.” Kenma was not joking anymore. “Akaashi. Are you sure that -”

“AGAASHEE ANSWERS ME FIRST.”

“Don’t interrupt me you owl !!” Kenma was practically hissing.

“HOW ABOUT YOU ANSWER ME FIRST?” Kuroo was not letting it slide.

It is so chaotic. What can I say or even do? I really want this first meeting to go smoothly. Yes, I, hm, let’s be honest with myself, do care deeply about y/n. When she asked me to meet my friends because she wants to get to know this side of my life, I was ecstatic. But maybe it was not the right time yet. I had a bad feeling since quite some time now. And my simpleton of friends all decided to go crazy without any way to calm them down. And y/n will be there at any moment now. Maybe I should have cancelled it like Bokuto-san suggested it.

“Yeah, you should answer his question first. How about that?”

This voice. Oh, this sweet, sweet voice. Akaashi suddenly became as white as a ghost and his friends quiet. Please, may my guess be wrong. I don’t want to check. But do I really have a choice here? He turned around slowly towards the source of the playful comment. He tried to collect himself, hoping from the bottom of his heart that it was just a weirdo overhearing and interrupting their conversation. A weirdo with a lovely voice. And now that it was about to face this person, an equally lovely perfume and a an equally lovely face and lovely smile and -

“Hi Keiji.” No. It was indeed you, y/n. In all your glory.

Kuroo, you are living your last moment on earth, Akaashi thought to himself even though Kuroo was still able to sense the murderous vibes. But seriously, how can I stay mad when she is there with a big smile and shaking her hand to say hello visibly a little bit shy. Just so cute.

“Hello y/n.” He tried his best to respond with a smile that wouldn’t let his thought be readable. But guessing by the others’ face, he might have had a grin as foolish as a clown’s. Or in his mind, as foolish as Kuroo’s.

“What was the question tho?” You spoke again and he suddenly went back to reality.

“Sorry what?” Damn I should stop daydreaming when she talks to me.

“The question.”

Akaashi blinked hard but did not answer.

You kept going. “The question your friend with the black hair wants you to answer. I didn’t hear it”

Akaashi turned towards his friends. Jaw tensed. Fists clenched. Kuroo was scared for his life and tried to hide behind Bokuto and Kenma, but in vain as he was taller than the two. He understood that his survival relied on his capacity to ‘shut his big mouth’. In fact, they all understood that their lives were on the line.

Akaashi replaced his focus solely on you. “Nothing important really. Do not worry. And I think he knows the answer by now anyway.”

“Oh okay.” You tilted your head to the side and threw a puzzled look to the three strangers.

“Right.” Akaashi gently took your arm before letting it go once he situated both of you in front of his friends. “So, this is Bokuto-san, Kuroo and Kenma. I already told you about them, so you know the basic info.” He tried to offer you a reassuring smile. “Guys this is -”

“I am l/n y/n. But please call me y/n. I am not used to begin addressed with my last name!” You offered a big smile. “Nice to meet you all. Thank you in advance for your care” you bowed slightly expecting them to talk back as they seemed quite lively before your arrival. But to your surprise they stayed quiet.

Not a silence again. Please. I am so wary of their silence. Usually Bokuto-san and Kuroo can’t shut up. Their silence is most of the time a bad omen. I don’t like that at all. This whole situation is already a farce. Can they be what is the closest to normal for them? Was Akaashi able to see the future? He sometimes wondered himself as his friends all started acting at the same time as if it was part of a scheme.

“AKAASHIII. OH MY GOD. SHE IS INDEED INSANELY PRETTY.” Bokuto started shaking his hand excitedly. “HELLO. I am so happy to meet you !!”. He was nearly jumping on the spot. “Please, please!! Can we go to a purikura? I WANT TO TAKE PICTURES WITH YOU !!!”

Kenma took advantage of Bokuto’s excitement to hide behind him and immediately take his phone out of his pocket. He was about to start a game when Kuroo took a hold of his phone while saying. “Oh no it’s our pleasure to be with you, y/n. Right Kenma.”

Kenma cringed because of Kuroo’s tone. How did the date sim the Nekoma team played back then described Kuroo’s voice? Oh yeah ‘your voice and way of talking scream scrappy personality’. Welp, it seems that Kuroo was not lying when he said that since high school no improvement were noticeable as for talking with girls. But, was Kenma any better as his first reflex was to hide and start playing a game on his phone, exactly like in high school ... **

Kenma was not the only one to cringe. Akaashi for sure was also suffering. What the hell was that? I can’t decide who was the worst. Kenma who totally avoided her. Kuroo and his weird ass way of talking. Or Bokuto who is so upfront. Please can I have a miracle? Can the ground swallow me whole so I won’t have to endure this afternoon which will for sure be a long, agonizing and cringe inducing hell?

His thoughts were interrupted by an angelic sound, your laugh. “Your description was really accurate Keiji.” You scooted closer to him.

“Oh, by the way, you can play with your phone if you’re not comfortable yet, Kenma-san. Take your time don’t worry.” Kenma shot a look at Kuroo meaning ‘I told you so’ and took back his phone.

“And I assure you Kuroo-san that the pleasure is more than shared. ” Kuroo snorted at your clear imitation of his way of talking. Were you already making fun of him? Right in front of his salad. He accepted the unspoken challenge, and he wouldn’t have any mercy.

“Also, I’d love to take picture with you Bokuto-san. Please teach me how to do your signature ‘Bokuto Beam’ so when I’ll be attending your match, we will be twinning every time you score.”

“HEY HEY HEY!! I WILL TEACH YOU ALL MY CELEBRATION POSES Y/N. You’re gonna be so cool cheering for me in the bleachers. OOOH, you should also wear my jersey. TsumTsum gonna be so jealous. Maybe even OmiOmi. AND YOU SHOULD MEET HINATA TOO. He’s my pupil. I am so proud of him.”

The atmosphere was finally enjoyable. Is this thanks to Bokuto natural energy or is it your energy this time ? Wondered Akaashi. But when you laughed again his heart knew the answer. I can’t believe that not even five minutes ago, I wanted to go away from what I foresaw as a hellish afternoon. How wrong I was.

“So how about we head to a purikura! The one in the arcade so we can also play games after?” You were so thrilled. “OOOH and we could stop at a cafe nearby. I crave something sweet like strawberry shortcake or an apple pie. Or perhaps something with matcha?” In your excitement, you grabbed Akaashi’s arm with both your hands. Looking up to Akaashi with a bright smile you eventually said: “Shall we go Keiji?”

Seeing his friends and you so enthusiast reassured Akaashi. For once, I am so happy to have been proven wrong. You squeezed his arm while walking and chatting with Bokuto and Kuroo making him smile softly. Yes, this is going to be a lovely afternoon.

(PS: Thank you Sil, @burnthoneymint and Icarus @cuz-like-why-not for brainstorming this event and giving me feedback ♥️)

he would be super respectful and considerate

if you ever had an issue with textures, whether it be food or clothing or anything else, he’d get rid of the offending item immediately

“c’mere baby, i missed you so much!” shoyo cooed, pulling you into his arms.

the hoodie he wore had vinyl lettering on the arms which felt incredibly gross under your fingertips, causing you to recoil

“what’s wrong? are you okay?” hinata asked, concern lacing his tone.

“i’m fine, it’s just that your sweatshirt has a bad texture that’s just- it’s so-”

“oh, it’s okay! you don’t have to explain yourself, don’t worry, i’ll change!” he sat up, pulling it off at the speed of sound before encasing you in his arms once more

“much better,” you murmured in satisfaction.

if you ever didn’t understand something or misunderstand something, he’d help to explain it to you more clearly

he’s able to toe the line between a vague explanation and overexplaining so expertly

“oh my god, shut up! you’re the worst!” your friend squealed. her hateful words betrayed her pleasant tone, causing you a great deal of confusion.

you grew quiet as an awkward silence glazed over the room, penetrating your being and making you very uncomfortable.

“uh, i’m sorry, i didn’t know-” you stuttered.

shoyo glanced up from his phone, taking notice of your confusion

“sweetheart, she was just joking, she didn’t mean it to sound rude,” he explained.

“oh, sorry,” you apologized again out of instinct.

“it’s okay, you don’t have to be sorry, it was just a misunderstanding.” he smiled softly, causing the tension in your chest to decrease.

as much as he loves physical affection and touching you, he’ll always give you personal space whenever you need it

and he’s not one of those guys to be like ‘oh you don’t wanna touch me? what did i do to you?’

he just understands that sometimes touch isn’t want you want or need

shoyo had noticed you looked a bit down this morning, and decided to approach you while you laid down on the couch in the fetal position “everything okay, y/n?”

“mmh” you murmured noncommittally.

based on past experiences, he took that as a ‘not-really-but-i-don’t-know-how-to-express-it’

“can i touch you?” shoyo asked considerately.

you averted your eyes and shook your head, a guilty expression crossing your face

“you don’t have to feel bad, i understand,” he sat criss cross on the floor in front of you, smiling up at you

“can i kiss you?” he asked politely, planting a quick yet reassuring kiss on your lips after receiving a nod of confirmation from you.

he knew you couldn’t form the words to articulate how you felt in that moment, so he talked to you instead. he talked about anything and everything from how practice was going to this one time him and natsu almost burned down the kitchen trying to make breakfast for their mother.

his words filled the heavy silence that had previously rested over the room, his voice a familiar sound that brought you great relief and helped to ease the weight on your shoulders.

above all else, he treats you just as he would anyone else

he doesn’t see you as inferior in any way and believes that everyone should be treated with kindness in order to make the world a better place :)
