BLs with Strong Historical Elements
Costume dramas, historical BLs, and BLs with time travel or flashbacks to historical locations & times.
These are in order of my personal preference, best at the top.
I Feel You Linger in the Air
2023 Thailand
IFYLITA is an exquisite BL, from filming techniques to narrative framework (much like Until We Meet Again). It's about a gay man from our time who falls into the past, becomes a servant to a noble house, and falls in love with the heir. It turns out this has all happened several times before. Steeped in history and family drama it edges into lakorn (but not as much as To Sir With Love and with way less scenery chewing). This is an elegant and classy soulmates BL... from Thailand which normally doesn't even try for classy. The main couple (both as a pair and as individuals) were excellent, particularly Bright (Yai) whose eye-work acting style is a personal favorite of mine. Pity about the ending. Oh it wasn’t that sad but it wasn’t good either. This show could easily have earned a 10/10 from me except that it fumbled the… erm… balls in the final quarter. Argh. Whatever.
Nobleman Ryu's Wedding
2021 Korea - WeTV
A boy cross-dresses to take his runaway sister's place as a bride to a shy scholar, turns out they like being married. A historical setting allowed this BL to use some seriously old fashioned romance tropes (arranged marriage, evil step-sisters, Cinderfella) but also modern BL stylings like fake relationship & secret identity (drag) plus some cute gay panic. It reminded me of 12th Night more than anything else which just happens to be my favorite Shakespeare play. For all these reasons, I adored it.
(the ghat kiss!)
Tinted With You
2022 Korea - Viki
Fun stylish time travel meets portal fantasy with a likable cast, historical setting, and two actual kisses that mitigate the rough plot and issues around anachronisms.
Word of Honor
2021 China (censored) - Viki/YouTube?
I don’t rec Chinese stuff often, because I believe in censoring the censors, but this show is one of my favorites of the post 2016 censored bromances. It’s two murder-gay assassins (pining sunshine/tsundere), and they are so insanely gay for two boys who will never be allowed to kiss. Tropes include: wuxia, soulmates, paranormal, historical, and fantasy elements.
To Sir, With Love AKA Khun Chai
2022 Thailand - YouTube?
This is a true lakorn (basically Thai tellenovella or soap opera) with scenery chewing performances, especially from the mother characters. Gone With the Wind + Days of Our Lives but gay. That said? I loved it: A glorious central brother relationship (the best, made me cry), het romances, class divide + gay *gasp* main romance - oh my word, the campy drama of it all! Arranged marriage, rebellion, cut sleeves, over-the-top death with curses and regrets, beautiful if inaccurate costumes, secrets unraveling, cover ups, sparkle murder, sex herbs, coils within coils including snakes and murderous green metallic sequins (is anything gayer on this earth?). It’s a WILD ride but it does end happy for our gay boys. A man cries when he finds DEATH GLITTER. Come on! You haffa watch it. That said, like Manner of Death I struggle to rate something on a BL scale when it patently isn’t a BL. So I ended up giving this exactly what I gave that show, 7/10 I enjoyed it a whole lot, but not as a BL.
The Untamed (Special BL Edition)
2020 China (censored) - YouTube
Censored wuxia bromance, amorphous ending. Probubly the best known BL of its kind out of China and responsible for bring many fans to the BL side.
Our Skyy 2: Never Let Me Go
2023 Thailand - YouTube
I was nervous to watch this PondPhuwin vehicle but I liked it a lot! Doomed soulmates + paranormal time travel to fix the past. I’m happy for the outfits and the dancing (if not the singing). It’s not a bad premise and it’s nice to see GMMTV lean into its high production values for a change. I'd adore a full historical starring these two and this was definitely the best of the second series of Our Skyy. I don't think you have to have watched the original Never Let Me Go to enjoy this.
Legend of Long Yang: Rebirth
2017 China
Gaga
Whipping boy trope... literally, servant character takes the strap for the prince, who then makes him his bodyguard and lover when he becomes king. Low budget historical, comes off as kind of cosplay wuxia version of Irresistible Love, but we get (in the credits) an actual kiss, and they both live. So yay for small mercies.
The Director Who Buys Me Dinner
2023 Korea (historical flash backs)
iQIYI
A new employee at a film company encounters a director who claims to have lived 300 years and insists that they have to date (eat, hug & kiss) if baby doesn't want to die. It has a lot of Japanese elements, not the least of which are: an office setting, the fact that every character in this show is unhinged, and a killing of the gays. Featuring a gorgeous & stellar cast, TDWBMD should have utilized them less for melodrama and more for chemistry. This BL surprised me by going there with a lipstick mark AND an actually gay idol. But (you knew there was a but) while it's a unique twist on an office romance it is NOT a unique twist on the doomed red thread trope, resulting in it feeling less than the sum of its parts and ultimately unsatisfying. This might have also had to do with the fact that this was one of those KBLs where I felt how very short it was the whole time I was watching, like I was missing something constantly, in every episode. Worth watching for some but seriously flawed.
First Love Again
2022 Korea (historical flash backs) - Viki
A popular novelist who remembers his past lives meets his soulmate for the third time, only to find she has been reincarnated into the body of a man. This one started out a touch mean-spirited, but we eventually got a good kiss. The confession/rejection scene was justified and the reconciliation and ending was... fine. All in all, the pacing felt rushed and the romantic arc was underdeveloped. They go from like to love to boyfriends in a red hot minute. But that’s par for the course with Korea’s short form. If you don’t mind a heavy does of melodrama in your BL this one has a solid story with a strong concept that’s well acted and produced, making it a classic KBL with better than average chemistry but ultimately a touch forgettable.
Love in Spring AKA Spring of Crush
2022 Korea
This show was all over the place with uneven acting, narrative, and focus (sometimes it wanted to be a slapstick comedy, sometimes a depressing melodrama) which meant no one, actors or viewers, took anyone or anything seriously.... AND it’s a bromance. I was left wondering if SalHyung is now code for “they were roommates” in Kdrama historicals but otherwise largely apathetic and unimpressed. Korea, I now know you can do better. Do better.
Mermaid's Jade
2019 China (censored-esk) - Gaga
Kills the gay.
The Male Queen: Han Zi Gao
2016 China - Gaga
Kills the gay. Schrodinger's BL, both a BL and entirely not one at the same time.
Diary of Heong Yeong Dang
2014 Korea
Kills the Gay
I was gonna do a top 10 list, but there aren't enough by my metrics, so many end sadly.
This post at the behest of @verymuchof thank you for the idea!
Dated April 2023, includes only BLs that had finished their run by that date. Not responsible for cool costume flix that come after that. But you should check the comments to see if any have been added by others!
I might have missed a few that only have time historical elements since I don't always track those.
Also I would like to point out a decided lack of Japan on this list. My ninja yaoi consuming tiny past self is VERY upset about this void.
WHERE ARE MY GAY NINJAS??!!!

H+L moments in 2022
I’ve seen these recaps before so I thought I’d make one with my favorite moments of 2022 since it was such a special year for them (and for us too):
1) I’m gonna start with probably my favorite moment (and this was just the beginning of everything) Louis wears the same blue and green shirt for his shows in Houston and Seattle (aka HS) 28 days apart of each other:
2) Louis pointing nonstop to a Larry sign during his show in Washington (here's the moment in different angles x, x, x):
3) Louis, during his Pittsburgh concert on Valentine's day, wears pants with a butterfly logo on them - a butterfly that was inspired by the movie Papillon, the same movie which inspired Harry’s butterfly tattoo:
4) Louis, on his Reykjavik show, wears a shirt that's written Maison - home in french - on the same day Harry announces his new album, Harry's House:
5) Ok, maybe this is my favorite moment. Harry, during his first concert of 2022, sings You're Still the One while wearing a rainbow jumpsuit (knowing exactly what this song means to us after singing it in 2018 and fonding way too hard while looking up at the VIP box):
6) Harry doodles an "H" and a subtle-ish “L” on his shoes while stunting in Italy:
7) The peace ring makes a comeback in May and then for a few days in September (worth mentioning that the first appearance in September was on the 7th, the exact same day the ring made a comeback in 2021:)
May 19th:
Sep 7th 2021 and Sep 7th 2022:
8) Louis and Harry being in Italy at the same time and Louis pretending he is not aware of it:
9) Harry dresses up as Danny Zuko (making him look a lot like Louis) aka a character from Grease aka one of Louis' favorite movie aka a character Louis played when he was young (a play so important to him that he still has the jacket he wore in it):
10) which leads me to this moment, because while wearing a Danny Zuko costume, Harry sang Hopelessly Devoted to You, a song that speaks for itself but that later on, Louis said was his favorite song from Grease:
11) After years of Harry telling us he's the little spoon, Louis finally confirmed that he is in fact the big spoon:
12) so many songs and lyrics from Harry's House and Faith in the Future (big, big, big, biiiiiig shout out to Keep Driving, Daylight, Written All Over Face and Lucky Again)
#masterpost#2022#larry 2022#if anyone wants to add anything else feel free to do it#i feel like these were the major moments

video essay!!!
hi friends!!
if you were curious at all about the video essay i was putting together for my comedy-theory class or are interested in hearing about some projects i'm working on, here's the link to watch it:
youtube
the video is unlisted bc it was specifically made for a class, and since a lot of the future-projects mentioned will probably go through major changes before i'm ready to release them to the world i didn't want this to seem like any kind of announcement video, but i'm also super proud of this video (it's probably my favorite final i've done) and i wanted to share it with any tumblr friends who are interested
if you'd like to learn more about any of the projects feel free to dm me bc i love infodumping about what i'm working on and the projects i mentioned here are very important to me. also dm me if you're at all curious about the comedy theory i'm citing, unfortunately due to the time limit on the assignment i didn't have enough time to give an in-depth explanation people outside of the class could get, but i LOVE comedy-philosophy and i made sure to download all the readings by the end of the course, so i would absolutely be willing to send over some PDFs and do some comedy analysis education lmao
also the first thirteen-and-a-half minutes are the video i turned in as my final, and the last six-and-a-half minutes are my in-class presentation that went along with it. for this assignment we had to construct a "comedy manifesto" using some of the theorists we covered in class to analyze our own comedy and outline goals for what we want our comedy to accomplish, and then for the in-class presentation we had the option of either presenting an abridged version of what we said in our "manifesto" or performing a piece of our own comedy that aligns with our goals. i of course did the second one bc i will never waste a captive audience.
tbh i don't think this was my best performance but i will say i literally memorized it in 24 hours so the fact that i only messed up twice is still impressive (also the lack of audience response is at least partially bc this was the last week of classes so most people who didn't have to present just skipped class)
presentations were also optional and i was the only one who did a piece fully in-character so that also gives you the vibe of the room
btw every piece of music in the video essay (aside from "having an average weekend" by shadowy men on a shadowy planet aka the kith theme) was composed by me for my musical other girls (who needs royalty-free music when you still have the demo files from your musical in fall 2022)
also there was no requirement on this assignment to interview a comedian, i just decided to zoom with paul bellini the week this was first assigned as a flex for my video essay lmao. so anyway watch this video if you want never-before-heard bellini content (at least 20% of which is just bellini complimenting my writing)
oh also if you're curious about the buddy cole tour behind-the-scenes thing i edited for my final in a different class dm me and i'll send you the vid, i'm not posting that one anywhere bc it's not great quality (i made it while super burnt out and i didn't have all the time/resources to include everything i wanted to include, plus the audio's not great) so i don't want it to be released as like an "official first look at the upcoming buddy cole documentary" until i can put together something more polished, but i would be willing to dm the link for people who just want to see a video of me and scott causing chaos on tour knowing it will be a much more polished edit later
anyway go watch my video essay i got the highest possible grade available on it and i'm very proud
#time for a jessay#time for a video jessay#i definitely want to make more video essays in the future once i have time/energy/resources/etc.#tbh comparing this video to the buddy cole video i made is 100% ''beginning of finals season'' vs ''end of finals season''#bc this was the first final i made and that was the last. so i had the time and energy to make this one the best it could possibly be#and by the time i got to the buddy cole vid i was well past running on empty and i'm still recovering lmao#but anyway i'm really proud of this one i think it's such a great distillation of everything i want my comedy to be#and i hope you all enjoy it too :)#Youtube

My favorite Going Seventeen episodes
In honor of the return of GoSe, my favorite past episodes!
2019 ep 5 Caratland Behind - Solely for DK and Jeonghan's recording of BRING IT. Jeonghan's lil "tu~rn left" was so cute but I was totally blown away by DK's angry rap. So much 'tude, possibly fiercer than the original. :0
2019 ep 17-18 Karaoke Escape Room - The moment Hoshi is dramatically drawing out the last lyrics to some random old song that they don't know and the 100 points shows up on screen and everyone absolutely loses their shit. Also, the members being relatable AF because they can't do math.
2020 ep 5-6 Past Life Destiny - Where do I even start? DK full on grinding the floor and getting up close and personal with the camera during his intro dance. JiHan's chaotic reenactment of a scene from "I'm Sorry I Love You" where Shua throws himself out of the car (not scripted). All the SeokSoon drama. As a bonus, Seungkwan sang DBSK's Hug while DK was choosing his partner and I squealed!
2020 ep 9 Insomnia Zero - Birth of Wonwoo's iconic ~tasty~ and when I learned that Woozi has no chill.
2020 ep 21-22 Kartrider - "Booster! Booster! Booster! YAH! BOOSTER!" - Hoshi failing to get a booster, 2020
2020 ep 23-24 Seventeen's Got Talent - Seventeen is so good at adlib humor, they just take the concept and go hard. Too many amazing characters! My favorites were diva judge Boo, sloth rapper Hoshi, musical actor Jun, angry ballad singer DK, robot Shua, and of course "Jun" aka mischievous Minghao.
2020 ep 25-26 The8 and the Shadows - Minghao wanted to be the leader for a day and the GoSe team gave him what he wanted... kinda lol. Favorite moments include the impromptu "We Will Rock You", DK's sogo dance, Jeonghan casually throwing water at Shua, and Shua getting everyone to imitate the voodoo doll he threw on the floor multiple times.
2020 ep 33 Mousebusters - Not so much for the actual Mousebusters part but the orange and grape games they did after. Seventeen takes games EXTREMELY SERIOUSLY.
2020 ep 40-41 Don't Lie II - Hoshi absolutely slayed this season of Don't Lie and he knows it. There's something so satisfying about seeing his chaotic thought process pan out to actually be correct.
2020 ep 44-45 TTT - I enjoy all of the TTTs but the focus on "hyperrealism" made this one even better because it seemed like the members were simultaneously more and less aware of the cameras and making content for the show. It had all of our favorite SVT pastimes - eating and drinking, badly played sports, games they've played a thousand times, and overly-enthusiastic karaoke.
2020 ep 46 Going Magazine - Minghao styled Hoshi sooooo well for the shoot, holy crap. Praise the denim crop top. And Mingyu was carrying this whole project so hard, this is when I first started to appreciate how hardworking and talented he is in other artistic ventures outside of just performing.
2021 ep 11 Ad Genius - Honestly too many meme-worthy moments to count, but my top are: Shua putting Shin Ramen in his hair, Jeonghan putting gochujang on his eyebrows, and Coups proposing to Dino with all kinds of products while Hoshi sings 2AM's "This Song" in the background.
2021 ep 24 Tribal Games - The Whispering in Silence game is probably my most rewatched Seventeen clip ever. Hoshi "epik"-ly screwing everything up makes me laugh every time.
2022 ep 37 How to Eat Rice - We must pay our respects to two members who threw away their idol image for this episode: 1) DK, the hungry rice monster, and 2) Shua, who poured a bucket of ice water over himself to prove that ramen tastes the best when you're cold. Double respects to Shua because he didn't even win after all of that lol.
2022 ep 50 GOING Radio Show - Dino going "look at my fit!" while Vernon is fighting for his life keeping his laughter in is one of the first clips I ever saw of Seventeen and it's still hilarious. The whole corner with Jeonghan and Dino learning English from Shua and Vernon was peak comedy.
Anyway, the two episodes that have been released so far have been really enjoyable! Lots of pun humor, member banter, and a surprise twist! I'm looking forward to Wednesdays now~

Ladies, gentlemen, and interesting people, welcome to...
The Mackolades are my personal annual film awards, awarded to my favorite (for the most part) movies, performances, and people from all the movies I watched for the first time in 2022, regardless of release year. This is more or less a companion series to Brendan’s Pink Bettes, as most of our movie watching is together. You can see the first and second Mackolades here on my tumblr, now let’s get started on the third!
FAVORITE DRAMA
WINNER: tick, tick...BOOM! (2021) dir. Lin-Manuel Miranda
FINALISTS:
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) dir. James Cameron
Dramarama (2020) dir. Jonathan Wysocki
Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022) dir. Daniel Scheinert & Daniel Kwan
TÁR (2022) dir. Todd Field
NOMINEES:
The Batman (2022) dir. Matt Reeves
The Godfather (1972) dir. Francis Ford Coppola
Klaus (2019) dir. Sergio Pablos
Pride & Prejudice (2005) dir. Joe Wright
The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999) dir. Anthony Minghella
Three Thousand Years of Longing (2022) dir. George Miller
GREAT year for the Favorite Drama category! I knew from the first few minutes of tick, tick...BOOM! that it was winning, but two of the finalists (Dramarama and Everything Everywhere All At Once) gave it a real run for its money. And then TÁR was just impeccable in every way (CATE!!!!!!). Special shoutout to The Godfather for actually living up to the hype and The Batman for being a genuinely good superhero movie. Highly recommend Dramarama in particular to any of my theatre friends that see this.
FAVORITE HORROR
WINNER: The Menu (2022) dir. Mark Mylod
FINALISTS:
All About Evil (2010) dir. Joshua Grannell (aka Peaches Christ)
Nope (2022) dir. Jordan Peele
Pearl (2022) dir. Ti West
Scream (2022) dir. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett
NOMINEES:
Arachnophobia (1990) dir. Frank Marshall
Barbarian (2022) dir. Zach Cregger
Fresh (2022) dir. Mimi Cave
Hellraiser (2022) dir. David Bruckner
What Keeps You Alive (2018) dir. Colin Minihan
X (2022) dir. Ti West
GREAT year for horror, too! The Menu is such a fun ride, almost more of a dark comedy than horror. I had a lot more actual scares this year than in 2021, particularly in Nope, Scream, Arachnophobia, and Barbarian.
FAVORITE COMEDY
WINNER: Barb & Star Go To Vista Del Mar (2021) dir. Josh Greenbaum
FINALISTS:
Do Revenge (2022) dir. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson
Glass Onion (2022) dir. Rian Johnson
Hello, My Name Is Doris (2015) dir. Michael Showalter
Kissing Jessica Stein (2001) dir. Charles Herman-Wurmfeld
NOMINEES:
Burn After Reading (2008) dir. Ethan Coen & Joel Coen
Fire Island (2022) dir. Andrew Ahn
Little Miss Sunshine (2006) dir. Jonathan Dayton & Valerie Faris
Mrs. Harris Goes To Paris (2022) dir. Anthony Fabian
My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002) dir. Joel Zwick
See How They Run (2022) dir. Tom George
Hey guess what. It was a great year for comedy, too. Barb & Star is destined to join Romy & Michele and the Tragedy Girls as a pair of gal pals that live in my head for the rest of my life. They’ve had this win sewn up since I first saw the movie in August, but there was still plenty of competition. Do Revenge is probably my unofficial runner up - those twists and turn and goops and gags and outfits!
FAVORITE SERIES
WINNER: Before Trilogy (3/3)
FINALISTS:
The Godfather (3/3)
Hell House, LLC (2/3)
Wong Kar-wai’s Love Trilogy (3/3)
X/Pearl/Maxxxine (2/3)
God, what can I say that hasn’t already been said about Richard Linklater’s Before trilogy? It’s just two people talking, but it’s perfect!
THE THANKS! I HATE IT! AWARD
WINNER: Whiplash (2014) dir. Damien Chazelle
FINALIST: Fall (2022) dir. Scott Mann
This new category is for movies that are good, but I hate them anyway! And there’s no movie that quite fits that bill like Whiplash. What an incredible work that I never wanna see again. Or dwell on for long here.
BIGGEST SURPRISE
WINNER: Halloween Ends (2022) dir. David Gordon Green
FINALISTS:
Brothers (2009) dir. Jim Sheridan
The Invitation (2022) dir. Jessica M. Thompson
Nerve (2016) dir. Henry Joost & Ariel Schulman
Uncle Peckerhead (2020) dir. Matthew John Lawrence
NOMINEES:
Fall (2022) dir. Scott Mann
Hatching (2022) dir. Hanna Bergholm
Hello, My Name Is Doris (2015) dir. Michael Showalter
Kissing Jessica Stein (2001) dir. Charles Herman-Wurmfeld
The Lost City (2022) dir. Adam Nee & Aaron Nee
Valentine (2001) dir. Jamie Blanks
After Halloween Kills won Biggest Letdown at last year’s Mackolades, I went into Halloween Ends with rock bottom expectations, but was pleasantly surprised! From the opening scene it showed it was completely different from any Halloween movie that came before it, and I was mostly delighted by what followed. It’s far from the best Halloween, and has some major problems, but it’s leagues ahead of Kills, and that alone win it Biggest Surprise for me.
BIGGEST LETDOWN
WINNER: Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness (2022) dir. Sam Raimi
I’ve engaged in a fair bit of MCU hate over the last few years, but I’ve held onto the belief that I’d probably enjoy them if I gave them a chance and just didn’t think too hard about it. Well... I guess I was wrong. I really thought I’d like this, the trailers looked interesting and Sam Raimi has a pretty good track record with me. But yeah... Martin Scorsese was right, these are just flashy theme park rides. Absolutely zero substance worth engaging with. What a disappointment, for me and for general culture. Anyway, somehow this was the only movie I watched in 2022 that I went into with expectations that were significantly let down, and I figured I’d give it its own multiverse of mediocrity with the myriad of posters available.
FAVORITE LEAD ACTRESS PERFORMANCE
WINNER: Cate Blanchett, TÁR (2022)
FINALISTS:
Mia Goth, Pearl (2022)
Janelle Monae, Glass Onion (2022)
Keke Palmer, Nope (2022)
Michelle Yeoh, Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022)
NOMINEES:
Jessica Chastain, The Eyes of Tammy Faye (2021)
Sally Field, Hello, My Name Is Doris (2015)
Natasha Lyonne, All About Evil (2010)
Lesley Manville, Mrs. Harris Goes To Paris (2022)
Thandiwe Newton, God’s Country (2022)
Anya Taylor-Joy, The Menu (2022)
Okay I have to bullet point this one so I can talk about all the finalists.
Cate is THE performance of the year for me. Her take on Lydia Tár is nothing short of amazing - even from the opening scene, with that TED Talk-like scene where she just talks about music for a few minutes, had Brendan and me grabbing each other and whispering in the (otherwise empty) theater about how breathtaking her performance was. I can’t believe I’m giving her lead actress two years in a row (out of three total!) but she really does deserve it.
Brendan and I loved Mia Goth in 2020′s Emma, but she reached new heights in X and, in particular, Pearl. The monologue! The face journey! The everything else! She’s now on the We’ll See Anything She’s In list, and I can’t wait for MaXXXine.
Janelle! I don’t have as much to say for her, but damn she picks projects well! Incredible lady and fantastic performance(s) in Glass Onion.
Keke - #ReleaseTheSpinCut! What a joy.
Okay I adore Michelle Yeoh and if Cate doesn’t win the Oscar I hope it’s hers. Truly wonderful and deserves everything good that’s coming her way right now.
FAVORITE SUPPORTING ACTRESS PERFORMANCE
WINNER: Hong Chau, The Menu (2022)
FINALISTS:
Jamie Clayton, Hellraiser (2022)
Courtney Cox, Scream (2022)
Stephanie Hsu, Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022)
Brittany Snow, X (2022)
NOMINEES:
Margaret Cho, Fire Island (2022)
Tovah Feldshuh, Kissing Jessica Stein (2001)
Vanessa Hudgens, tick, tick...BOOM! (2021)
Andrea Martin, My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002)
Alia Shawkat, Being The Ricardos (2021)
Tandi Wright, Pearl (2022)
Hong Chau is another 2022 addition to the We’ll See Anything She’s In list, and she got an Oscar nom for the other one! Yay! But this is about my favorites, not objectivity, and I prefer her in The Menu. What a treat! I don’t have much to say about the finalists and nominees that wouldn’t require this becoming far too long, so I’m just gonna move on.
FAVORITE ACTOR PERFORMANCE
WINNER: Paul Dano, Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
FINALISTS:
Marlon Brando, The Godfather (1972)
Austin Butler, Elvis (2022)
Alton Brown, Elvis (2022)
Ke Huy Quan, Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022)
NOMINEES:
Rohan Campbell, Halloween Ends (2022)
Ralph Fiennes, The Menu (2022)
Andrew Garfield, tick, tick...BOOM! (2021)
Robin de Jesús, tick, tick...BOOM! (2021)
Haley Joel Osment, Sassy Pants (2012)
Conrad Ricamora, Fire Island (2022)
I started watching Little Miss Sunshine for Toni, but I remember it for Paul, particularly the sequence pictured above. Special shoutout to Alton Brown for stealing the show for a scene or two of Elvis (a difficult task when Austin Butler’s Elvis is present!)
THE TONI “SHE HAS THE RANGE” COLLETTE AWARD FOR MULTI-GENRE EXCELLENCE
WINNER: Jim Carrey, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)/Sonic The Hedgehog (2020)
FINALISTS:
Jamie Dornan, Barb & Star Go To Vista Del Mar (2021)/Belfast (2021)
Idris Elba, The Dark Tower (2017)/Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (2022)/Three Thousand Years of Longing (2022)
Jenna Ortega, The Fallout (2021)/Scream (2022)
Tilda Swinton, Burn After Reading (2008)/Constantine (2005)/Three Thousand Years of Longing (2022)
I mean, Jim Carrey was basically born to play Dr. Robotnik, and when you contrast that with Eternal Sunshine, well, that’s basically what this category is for!
THE CARLY RAE JEPSEN “SHE MAKES MY BLOOD FEEL CARBONATED” AWARD
WINNER: Elaine Stritch, Original Cast Album: Company (1970)
During the Ladies Who Lunch sequence of the Company documentary, I must’ve turned to Brendan at least three times to say “I love being gay” - Elaine’s an icon and a queen and I hate I didn’t get into theatre soon enough to appreciate her while she was alive. (NOTE: If I’d started this category a year earlier, Carol Channing certainly would’ve gotten it for the documentary Larger Than Life, and it felt wrong to not mention that here)
HOTTEST DADDY
WINNER: Russell Crowe, The Nice Guys (2016)
FINALISTS:
George Clooney, Solaris (2002)
Guillermo Diaz, Bros (2022)
Thomas Forbes-Madison, The Lost City (2022)
David Harbour, Violent Night (2022)
NOMINEES:
Daniel Craig, Glass Onion (2022)
Idris Elba, Three Thousand Years of Longing (2022)
Ethan Hawke, The Black Phone (2022)
Martin Henderson, X (2022)
Peter Sarsgaard, The Batman (2022)
Bradley Whitford, tick, tick...BOOM! (2021)
Someone ask me what kind of guys I like. I dare you. I downloaded six entire movies to get enough usable shots of these men - definitely the most work I did for any single category.
Anyway, that’s the 2022 Mackolades! 65 movies honored (or dishonored) from an eligibility pool of 205. Now you know what I love - any recommendations of what to watch in 2023?

2022 End of Year Fic Review
tagged by @aadmelioraa, thank you friend! This was super fun! :D
1. What is your AO3 account?
same as tumblr, ulfrsmal aka wolf-kissed
2. How many words did you write total in 2022?
Without counting Echoes, since that was both 2021 and 2022 and I cannot remember what chapters were published when, it's a whooping 383,780!
3. How many fics did you publish in 2022? How many multichapters vs oneshots?
Again without counting Echoes (mutichapter), 112 fics in total out of which 9 are multichapters... I was the king of oneshots apparently xD
4. What was your longest fic? Your shortest fic?
Technically the longest is Echoes with 262,310 words but since it don't count -- The Queen Of Thorns And Roses (The Spanish Princess) with 37,196. The shortest is Pregnancy (Vikings: Valhalla) with 348...
5. What was your most popular fic? Your least popular fic?
The most popular going by hits, Holy Water (The Witcher, DD:DNE) with 1921. By kudos and bookmarks, In Due Time (The Witcher) with 130 kudos and 25 bookmarks! Counting the private ones too at least.
[Echoes sits at 8608 views, 194 kudos, and 33 bookmarks]
The least popular is Snow (Vikings, DD:DNE) with 9 hits and zero kudos, and I have a whole lotta fics with zero bookmarks...
6. What fic didn’t perform as well as you thought it would?
Well everything I've published after marking my fics to be viewed Logged-In Only has had WAY less attention than when they were publicly available, but I don't really mind ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
7. What fic performed way better than you thought it would?
Steeler (The Last Kingdom). I thought it'd interest only me but I was way wrong!
8. What was your favorite fic you wrote from 2022?
OOF. Too many ngl XD To name a few...
Headlong (Spartacus)
Flame Of Knowledge (The Last Kingdom)
The Salt On That Ivory Skin (The Last Kingdom)
Nothing Can Break Me (I shall rise again) (The Last Kingdom)
Heathen Throne (Vikings, tw incest)
Vampire Heart (Vikings, tw incest).
9. What was your favorite fic that somebody else wrote in 2022?
Ah here we go, this is the question where I rant and rave! :D
Fields Of Joy by baku_midnight (Spartacus) is one of the most poetic stories I've ever read in the entirety of ao3, and poly to boot!
bound by flesh, freed by blood by @vveissesfleisch (Our Flag Means Death) is the kind of gory, sexy, messy DD:DNE I love most despite knowing virtually ntohing about its fandom, ahah!
polish the blood and the bruise by @underragingwaves (Vikings + Vikings Valhalla) has excellent character dynamics, little details all throughout, and superb military jargon
The Morning Doesn't Reach Us by crushcandles (The Witcher) is exhilarating, I love my Witchers poly and feral, and this fic delivers!
May He Rest In Pieces by geekinthepink (Outlander, DD:DNE) revived my love for horror stories and darkfics, plus I love the Murder Husbands trope
Bonus Fluff: The Man Made Of Love by Anonymous (The Witcher) is fluff made art 💟
10. Tag your friends to do this year-end fic review as well!
idk if y'all have been tagged yet so feel free to tag me into the comments if you have, bUT: @bouncehousedemons, @vveissesfleisch, @underragingwaves, @solinarimoon - TAG! YOU'RE IT! :D
#composing and editing the links and bold and red was a NIGHTMARE#but I love the results#also please let me know if I should add more TW or tags and I will; though I think it's decently tagged now?#wynne rambles#2022 in review#end of year fic review#2022 end of year fic review#thank you for tagging me!

Just for fun I decided to create a list of 22 of my favorite posts that I created in 2022. So without further ado,
Riikka's top 22 posts from 2022:
Noah Reid's hands. That's it. That's the post.
Ronen Rubinstein on a swing. Cutest of the cutes.
Rafael Silva vs The Wigs. Pure comedy.
Noah Reid, love of my life, being extremely charming.
Dan Levy (and friends) giving us some high fashion realness in this poolside fashion show.
Rafael Silva feat. facial hair aka Rafa being hot af.
Riz Ahmed looking pretty and talking about imposter syndrome and the feeling (or lack thereof) of having made it in life.
23 of my favorite horny songs combined into one playlist called: All I Do (Is Think of You).
Lupita Nyong'o being super cute in some very pretty clothes.
Rafael Silva pumping some iron at the gym and making me sweat in the process.
Pretty autumn colours as seen from my kitchen window.
Some gorgeous jaguars living their best life.
Victoria Monét & the ladies doing a very fun dance routine that I would learn if it wasn't for... well, many things, not least my lack of talent and bad knees.
My wife... ahem.. I mean Kehlani being gorgeous and sexy as hell.
A reblog game that was so much fun to make, but that nobody wanted to play. Shrug Still one of the fave posts of mine tho.
This picture of Rafael Silva that I loved so much I had it as my icon for a while.
The afternoon sun in March melting the snow on the cliff and making the water drip down the side of the cliff.
Damiano David with some filters that make him look like he could be from the 70s in the first pic and the 40s-50s in the second pic.
Måneskin being cooler than any of us while performing on stage – and off stage.
Jack White being cute on the Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend -podcast.
Quannah Chasinghorse being beautiful while talking about curating National Geographic's promotion of indigenous photographers on their Insta account.
And finally this image of just two bisexual having a chat, which happens to be very relevant to my interests. These bi-queen and bi-king are none other than Nicola Correia Damude aka my wife and Ronen Rubinstein.
And that was it good folks. Hope you enjoyed and hope you found something you liked and maybe even something you'd missed the first time around.

Can you have a post about top 5 entries from Norway?
Okay, Norway has so many amazing songs that I really can't pick just 5. Even some of their lower placed songs such as Branderburger Tor were great! (0 points, really?)
Actually if you know my blog for quite a while you might probably know who will be my 1st. Or my 2nd or 3rd. (Hint 2 of them are winners and the other won the televote lol)
5. Silent storm (2014)
This performance is so powerful yet so mellow especially in the first part. Love how after the bridge it just violently hits me in the guts with emotions. So incredibly amazing, I really love this one.
4. Alle mine tankar (1993)
It has this melancholic, mysterious and even a bit eerie sound which I love. Sounds like the kind of song I'd fall asleep near the fireplace after a long tiring day in the winter.
3. Nocturne (1995)
Yeah, no surprises starting from here, this is just so magical and dreamy that I couldn't resist not putting it in this top. It's my go-to song when I'm feeling anxious, like I really don't know what to add more, beautiful instrumental, the lines in norwegian are so hauntingly wonderful, overall, a great esc winner in my opinion.
2. Spirit in the sky (2019)
Ah yes, the song that got me out of depression back in 2019. And still does. Like I probably said before, I can't get tired of this song. So upbeat and uplifting, and every line just speaks to my soul, yes, even the joik.
1. Fairytale (2009)
You probably expected this, just imagine my reaction when I found out in 2018 (aka when I was still a new fan) that Rybak, whose song that year was one of my favorites (please don't judge) was in fact an esc winner. I literally went bonkers for this and thought dude bro this is even better than thywas hello?? And became my jam since. 😌
Honorable mentions: Voi voi (1960), Oliver (1979), Samiid Ædnan (1980), La det swinge (1985), Romeo (1986), For vår jord (1988), Branderburger tor (1990), Visjoner (1992), Evighet (1996), In my dreams (2005), Alvedansen (2006), Hold on, be strong (2008), I feed you my love (2013), A monster like me (2015), That's how you write a song (2018), Attention (2020), Fallen Angel (2021), Give that wolf a banana (2022)

❣️🖤❤️ #MCRLA3 | 11 Years ago, I saw @mychemicalromance live for the 1st time with my B.F.F. @michelleee_413 at @redrockcasino. Little did I know it would also be the last time I would see them perform together before they would disband 2 years later. For the next 6 years I would see @frankieromustdie live 3 times, @gerardway’s comic book series @umbrellaacad would be adapted into a successful TV show running for 3 seasons & all 4 members would release a total of 7 separate music projects (Gerard & @raytoro’s solo projects, @mikeyway’s band & Frank’s 4 -that’s right FOUR- solos/bands). The band would announce their reunion at the end of 2019 along with a world tour. I would purchase my tickets at the very beginning of 2020 & a couple months later due to covid the entire tour would be postponed 3 times within the next 3 years… Finally, on October 14th, 2022 - along with my other half @pointblakevideos at @thekiaforum, I would see them all together again for the 2nd time. (I would also leave with a little souvenir… ☠️🔥 It was a rough next couple of weeks of recovery, but thank goodness I was fully vaccinated - definitely worth it..! 👻) Since 2006, this has been my all-time favorite band. Their music has been a driving force of artistic inspiration for me since the beginning of junior high into adulthood. I have never given up on them. I never could. Whether their next projects are together or separate, I look forward to whatever comes next. Thank you #MyChemicalRomance!!! Besides God & my B.F.F. you have been one of the those rare constants in my life & just like them I pray you will be #Always~ ❤️🖤❣️ [All photos & videos/songs in order- I. #MCRLA night 3 of 5?! 🤘🏽💀🔥 II. 2/5/2023 - 2/11/2023: Case 143 by Stray Kids
In preparation for Valentine's Day, I have been obsessed with Case 143!
Case 143 was released on October 6, 2022 by the 8-member group Stray Kids. This is the group's first title track that is a love song! Unlike the group's usual sound, which is very electronic and features a narrative of being carefree, this song is all about the realization that you have developed a crush - and that you might not be so happy about it. Essentially, it treats falling in love like a criminal case. It adds a whole new meaning to "stole my heart."
Stray Kids debuted on March 25, 2018, under JYP Entertainment. Like IZ*ONE, Stray Kids was created on a survival show, but not in the same way as the temporary girl group. Instead, unlike any other group before, Stray Kids was put together by the group's leader, Bang Chan. After training for over 7 years, JYPE CEO Park Jinyoung entrusted Chan with the chance to create his own group. Immediately, he chose Han Jisung and Seo Changbin, who were both in a pre-debut self-produced rap trio called 3Racha alongside Chan. They performed and created under the pseudonyms "CB97" (Chan), "SpearB" (Changbin), and J.ONE (Han). Today, they still produce and write music and are credited under the same names. Bang Chan also selected Lee Minho, Hwang Hyunjin, Lee Felix, Kim Seungmin, and Yang Jeongin. A ninth member was also selected but was removed from the group several years later. Both acts prefer not to be associated with one another.
During the show, Lee Minho and Lee Felix were eliminated. However, they were brought back at the last moment.
Nearly five years later, Stray Kids remains a self-produced and self-written group, with leader Bang Chan having written every song on their discography and being the 4th generation Kpop idol with the most songs credited to his name under KOMCA.
Case 143 is a very different song for Stray Kids, especially for their lead promotional track. Compared to other hits like MIROH, God's Menu, and Maniac, this song is much cuter and bubblier than the heavier, industrial sound they tend to go for. The line distribution is very even, which is not required for a group, but is always nice to see. Felix is always a standout, due to his shockingly deep voice, and this track is no exception. Bang Chan, Seungmin, and Changbin also stood out for their killer English sections and impressive dance skills.
The video lines up more with the Stray Kids signature, especially with the elements of superheroes and villains, and implications of a multiverse. One of my favorite parts is the clever editing in which Minho jumps down from one clip into the center of the dance on the bottom clip. I also love the bit where Seungmin pauses the videos and rewinds back to the chorus for the final breakdown! It's a very cute way to jazz up vibe. JYPE's editing department have been doing this frequently!
Stage Names and Group Positions (listed eldest to youngest):
Bang Chan - Leader, Producer, Lead Vocalist, Lead Rapper, Dancer (real name: Bahng Christopher Chan; AKA: CB97)
Lee Know - Visual, Main Dancer, Lead Vocalist (real name: Lee Minho)
Changbin - Main Rapper, Producer, Lead Dancer, Sub Vocalist (real name: Seo Changbin; AKA: SpearB)
Hyunjin - Visual, Main Dancer, Lead Rapper, Vocalist (real name: Hwang Hyunjin)
Han - Main Rapper, Producer, Lead Vocalist, ACE (real name: Han Jisung; AKA: J.ONE)
Felix - Main Dancer, Lead Rapper, Sub Vocalist (real name: Lee Felix / Lee Yongbok)
Seungmin - Main Vocalist (real name: Kim Seungmin)
I.N - Main Vocalist, Maknae / Youngest (real name: Yang Jeongin)

TOP 5 FAVORITE MOMENTS FROM 2022’S QUEER AS FOLK
1. Mingus’ performance to “sacrilege” by yeah yeah yeahs
my first association when i read the title of this episode was this song, so i was immediately captured when it actually started playing. mingus’ look during the performance was ethereal and mesmerizing. you could really feel the spiritual rebirth they and the audience were going through.
2. Brodie blowing up Daddius’ parents’ car to kimberly nichole’s cover of “house of the rising sun”
nothing more cathartic than getting revenge on your best friend’s homophobic parents. brodie might be impulsive but it’s admirable how much he cares and fights for his friends.
3. Brodie saving Mingus’ life in Babylon
the most memorable shot during the babylon attack, which the show flashed back to a couple of times, was brodie body-slamming mingus after he sees the terrifying look on their face and realizes what’s happening.
4. Brodie and Ruthie’s kiss in the rain
okay, so i’m not saying i ship it. but their relationship plays as the main love story of the show.
sure, at first we don’t get anything but a “platonic besties” vibe from them. yet, even in the beginning it feels like in ruthie’s relationship with shar there’s always another person aka brodie. later when we find out brodie and ruthie were each other’s first love it all starts to make sense. brodie had to stuff his feelings for ruthie after she came out to him as trans, but he never really got over them.
i wonder what direction their relationship would go, were we to get a season 2. all obvious reasons tell me they wouldn’t last long, but who knows? sexuality is fluid.
5. Brenda’s coming out
this coming out is pure camp and i live for it. it was as unexpected as my love for her, and yet completely in character. julian and brodie’s reaction to “you get it from your mama” was priceless.

Inside Llewyn Davis (2013)
In the last quarter of 2022, I decided to switch up the nearly year-long horror movie binge I embarked on to catch up on all the fright flicks I had avoided for so long. I’m sure you can imagine, but taking in over one hundred films in a genre full of gruesome images and deaths, themes, and often uneven storytelling (which is a kind way to say Friday the 13th: Parts 5 – Manhattan played like there was no script) can get a bit tiring.
When looking for my next movie viewing challenge, I realized I had missed out on so many films from renowned directors. I claim Quentin Tarantino as my all-time favorite director but had never seen his grindhouse homage Death Proof, or applauded the work of Stanley Kubrick but had never watched his self-proclaimed legacy stain Spartacus. Therefore, I began to seek out the movies making up gaps in acclaimed directors’ filmographies to catch myself up.
Inside Llewyn Davis was released in 2013, starred Oscar Isaac, and was directed by the Coen Brothers (Ethan and Joel, but if you’re reading a move blog and didn’t know the brothers’ names you might wonder if you’re wasting your time here). I’m a fan of Oscar Isaac, and feel he’s able to take on various characters and I buy it almost everytime. The only exception is whatever the f**k he was doing in Moon Knight. I’ve only seen the first 2 episodes but that accent is going to keep me away from the remaining six. At the time of this film’s release though, I would have only known him from Drive (love) and Body of Lies (oof).
The movie follows Isaac as a struggling, couch-surfing folk singer in 1960s Greenwich Village. The movie opens with a couple minute scene of Isaac singing and strumming his acoustic guitar at one of his repeat stomping grounds the Gaslight Café. It is one of those scenes that grabs you immediately and lets you know you’re in for a good time. It sets the tone and grit of the film, and the punch Llewyn takes in the back alley after the performance lets you know quite literally the hits he’ll be taking.
The acting in the film is perfect, with Carey Mulligan delivering a fantastic payoff for why her character is so seemingly abusive to Llewyn throughout most of the film, and some great characters along the way. I had no idea Justin Timberlake was in this movie, but he’s good and I am never mad to have a little JT in my motion pictures. Oh, and there’s a cat too.
There’s not much else I can say about the movie, it’s another notch on the Coen Brother’s belt of great films that I’ll recommend to anyone that can stomach a good drama (AKA not my dad). I’d personally put it right below The Big Lebowski and right above Raising Arizona (which I saw late and don’t have the reverence for it that so many do). If you haven’t seen it, check it out and let me know how wrong I am for every opinion I’ve stated here.
Inside Llewyn Davis: 8.0/10

adrian chase aka vigilante is a man of multitudes. he hums gimme gimme gimme by ABBA as he systematically slices through a whole gang of nazis, and literally fucking walks off being shot, but then complains for 12 hours straight when he stubs his toe.

My #1 post of 2022
been slowly rewatching the daredevil show again, and one piece of character portrayal i really love is — in 1x09, you see foggy and karen visibly emotional, falling to pieces in the morgue with mrs. cardenas's body, but you see no visible emotion on matt at all, save for that shot where his hands tighten their grip around his cane. you continue to see no emotion from matt, other than profound anger while fighting (and getting his ass kicked by) nobu, until the next episode, when foggy is grilling/confronting him after figuring out the truth.
then, and only then, do you see matt shed a tear at all, and then, and only then, do you see him start to break down.
and it's just... such a good encapsulation of the way he deals with emotions? (or, well, doesn't deal with them might be a better way of putting it.) he's all anger, very often misplaced, because he has no better way to deal with an unfair world, really, and he keeps shoving everything else down until he gets to a breaking point and he can't anymore.
it's one of the reasons why i think this adaptation is a good take on matt, because of the little understated show-don't-tell details in the writing and in charlie cox's performance like this.
