Holy fuck I feel so bad for everyone, but I felt especially bad for Mic, Aizawa, Hawks, Dabi, and the rest of the Todorokis. because goddamn!

Hawks, A: gets his wings set on fucking fire B: finds out his biggest hero failed so spectacularly he created the 2nd most wanted villain in Japan C: has his real name revealed D: did I mention that his wings were set on fire E: will have to deal with the press on top of this!

And I mean I the span of what, 3 days? Mic and Aizawa find out that A: their best friend’s corpse was stolen, mutilated, and used to create a monster. B: fight a losing battle knowing that literal children are acting as soldiers and they can’t do anything about it C: Hizashi learned that the LOV didn’t even want oboro they were after Shouta and took the next best thing when they failed to capture him, AND now he has to decide if he should tell his best friend who already blamed himself that the league wanted him instead!? D: Shouta cut. off. his. goddamned. leg. E: midnight fucking died F: a bunch of their students got hurt and they won’t even be recognized for their bravery.

aND DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE TODOROKIS!!! (To preface I unfortunately already knew about the dabi/touya reveal)

I think a big reason why so many American and other Western readers think of Izuku's job as a UA Teacher as being a 'dead-end minimum wage job' is because the biggest example of a UA teacher we follow is Aizawa who treats the job with all of the respect of a burned out night manager at the local Wawa. And really, anyone who reads the chapter with Izuku and see how bright-eyed, bushy-tailed and pleased he is about teaching, it's more clear that being a UA teacher is a great gig for retired and current heroes, it's just Aizawa that's like that.

he'd expected something cruel. who would be better positioned to read shouta a list of his faults than yamada? who would have half the reason for bitterness? but this...

shouta has been out with shirakumo hunting down those affected by the quirk all day. those with powerful quirks like yamada's had been asked to avoid the skirmishes, to avoid the contagion of festering, rabid bitterness that's been spreading through the city, turning those affected against their closest friends and loved ones, snarling and spitting their hidden feelings.

shouta doesn't know these people, but he has a hunch that those words ring a bit too true. that even after the effects of the quirk wear off, those words will be difficult to take back.

the moment yamada had missed his radio slot, he'd been ready for the worst.

they'd gotten home to yamada's back turned, fists clenching and unclenching. and from there, all hell had broken loose.

his back hurts from where yamada's voice attack had thrown him against the wall to separate him from shirakumo and stun him long enough for yamada to cover his eyes. his grip is iron, bruising shouta's wrists where he pins him. some sort of adrenal reaction, shouta and shirakumo had theorized on their routes.

shouta claws at him, grips his jacket and tears to no avail. this is all wrong, irrational, twisted, yamada's booming voice surrounding him.

"stop," he booms, shattering glass. "you'll do anything to avoid seeing yourself as someone worth loving, won't you?" his grip over shouta's eyes crushing his head back against the wall. "never letting yourself want or believe in yourself."

shouta's ears ring from the volume. yamada's voice feels deeper, harsher than usual.

"well i see you, whether you like it or not," yamada continues. "i see how much you care, how you keep fighting and fighting and fighting." his grip is crushing shouta's wrist. "and you won't ever fucking reward yourself for it, and i have to sneak it past you like a fucking--"

a crash, and yamada's grip loosens long enough to kick his way free. yamada stumbles back, shirakumo on his back, and shouta steadies himself and launches into the fight
