The yellow cab came to a stop before the familiar building, easing you into the comforting reverie of being home. The exterior had mostly stayed the same in the past year, except for the semi-new posters on the windows. The dark green sign remained unchanged, slightly fading from the weather.
Nelson's Meat. You are here.
Snow dusted the cold air, falling over you like the finest gossamer. The little white flakes melted on your nose at the first touch. You thanked the taxi driver for helping you with your suitcase, and soon you were left alone before the shop on the vacant street. The warm light illuminated from the inside was inviting, coaxing your feet to step forward to the door. You took a moment to brace yourself, taking in a deep breath. Your body shuddered faintly from the cold that slowly seeped through the layers of your clothes. After a year of living and working abroad alone, you missed your adopted family. Your arrival was no secret, but your family didn't expect you until the next day. Your knuckles rapped on the glass door; the scene inside was shielded from your vision by the blind. The door opened, and your brother, Frank, or as you so lovingly called Foggy, greeted you with the biggest smile. Your name was an excited shout in true Foggy's fashion.
"If this isn't the prodigy daughter! I thought you wouldn't be here until tomorrow?"
He pulled you into a crushing hug, lifting you off the ground. You held onto him with both arms, squealing as you tried to explain.
"I wanted to surprise everyone!"
An onslaught of delighted cheers and calls rushed at you the moment Foggy ushered you through the door, out of the claws of the late autumn. He followed closely behind, taking your suitcase in with him. You were pulled into one hug after another, and each member of your family squeezed you until you were sure there would be imprints of their hugs on your back. You tried your best to keep up with the questions, their overflowing enthusiasm for your foreign experience, and the stories from home that were thrown at you.
You parted from your uncle, smiling bashfully at his genuine excitement that you had a safe trip home. Over his shoulder, from the peripheral of your vision, you saw him stepping into the room. The sight of Matt was unexpected, to say the least. You hadn't seen him since the day you left for Sweden. Before you were fully aware of what you were about to do, you took long, haste steps and jumped into Matt's arms, giving him a big hug.
"Matt! You're here?"
He wrapped his arms around you, embracing you with just as much enthusiasm.
"Your brother invited me. Apparently, he deems ordering takeouts on a Thanksgiving evening too pathetic."
You snorted as an easy smile graced the corners of his lips. You pulled back to truly take him in; your eyes ran over his endearing features. Matt hadn't changed much in the past year, but you noticed the subtle difference in his frame. You could feel the firmness of his muscle over the thin material of his white dress shirt. You stayed locked in each other's hold, your hands on his shoulder and biceps, his hands on your waist with the soft back-and-forth brush of his thumb. You thought of that day at the airport, how he surprised you just by being there, and even more so when he pulled you into a tight embrace and held onto you as if he couldn't let you go.
Foggy cleared his throat, and you turned to your brother. He gave you a strange look, his eyes widened as if to ask a question you didn't have the answer to, and you let go of Matt. Your brother was all too eager to steer you to the kitchen, going on about how you must try his eggnog recipe with a twist. The tale of how he used absinthe that one time fell on deaf ear as you glanced over your shoulder to see Matt where you had left him. He seemed to know that you were looking at him, tipping his head as if to tell you that he would be okay.
In the kitchen, a glass of eggnog without absinthe, as Foggy assured, was shoved in your hands. The night went smoothly as you traded stories and started a weirdly competitive game of Pictionary, enjoying your drinks as you waited for dinner to be ready.
After a while, your skin prickled with sweat and warmth from the drink in the room full of people. You excused yourself, going to the kitchen for a glass of water. You were staring at the golden brown turkey in the oven when Matt entered the room with empty hands. You asked if he wanted a beer, to which he nodded. You drew one from the fridge and popped it open by placing the edge of its cap on the counter before handing it to him. You leaned on the kitchen counter, and Matt did the same. Moments passed when neither of you said anything, contentedly basking in the quiet. You tipped your head towards him and whispered, even though the two of you were alone, in the kitchen rich with delicious smells.
"How have you been?"
He gave a casual shrug.
"I've been busy. Things have been picking up at the office. I'm just glad that we have more clients to foot the bills now."
You hummed in agreement. Foggy told you all about it during your weekly call. You glanced at Matt's hand on the beer bottle, seeing the skin on his knuckles scattered in white scars. The sight of them somehow reminded you of when Foggy was at Columbia and would sometimes bring Matt with him home. Matt was skinnier then, always in baggy Columbia sweatshirts or soft sweaters, always timid around your big, loud family. From time to time, the sight of his red and blistered knuckles wouldn't escape your perceptive eyes. When you asked about it, he always blamed it on his clumsiness, and how he too often pushed himself too hard at the gym. You had your suspicion but never asked out of respect for his boundaries. He seemed uncomfortable whenever you pointed out his injuries.
Matt looked different now. His dark hair grew longer, tousled on top and curled slightly at the nape of his neck. The stubble added a ruggedness to his sculpted face, accentuated by a smile sweet enough to make your heart race. Your eyes travelled down to the rolled-up sleeves of his shirt, displaying his fuzzy forearms. Continued the path downward were his hands; the veins were prominent on the slightly red skin. And how could you forget the scars?
You nudged his shoulder teasingly.
"Still up to no good, I see."
Matt turned to you, a questioning look on his face. His brows raised, peeking over the red glasses he wore. You brought your hand to his knuckles, brushing against the calloused skin. Matt inhaled deeply as a shiver rolled down his spine, bathing him in a warm rush of blood as it went straight to his traitorous heart. Your touch was soft and tender, a gentle swipe over his brutal achievement. His cheeks warmed at the barely-there contact.
"I'm just … clumsy. Maybe I do need a guide dog."
"Dogs are cute! And helpful! I can imagine a little Labrador being your sidekick."
You cooed, imagining a lovely pup always perching at his feet. Matt shook his head.
"I don't think I'm a dog person, so …."
"Wow! How dare you?"
You said it with so much seriousness that it made Matt laugh out loud. His laugh was contagious, and you joined him, a burst at the ridiculous and unfunny joke. Your shoulders touched as your bodies swayed in the other's direction. Your hand still lingered on his when Foggy walked in. At the sight of your brother, you abruptly pulled your hand back, which earned another scrutinizing look from him. He stared at you and Matt, at the distance between you two, and his eyes narrowed.
"What's going on?"
You lifted a shoulder, casting an innocent smile at your brother.
"Nothing! We're just catching up."
Matt took a swig of his beer as you sipped your water.
"Doesn't look like it to me."
A call for Foggy from the living room reached the three of you, but he didn't care to answer. It seemed he didn't want to leave despite the persistent call, his expression full of concern. You silently gestured for him to go on, yet he didn't move an inch. An awkward air cast over the three of you until your mother barged in.
"Come on, we've been calling you!"
Foggy turned to his mom, nudging his head in the direction of where you and Matt huddled together.
"But I can't leave them there."
With a wave of her hand, your mother dismissed Foggy's silly concern.
"Yes, you can. Don't be a buzzkill. Let them catch up."
Despite his resistance, Foggy was dragged away. You chuckled, shaking your head.
"I missed him, even with his overprotectiveness."
A lightbulb went off in your head.
"I missed teasing him most of all."
Matt's head tipped forward as he laughed, making a few strands of hair fall over his forehead. Your hands itched to feel them in the guise of pushing them back.
"Why do I feel like you're involving me in this?"
"Because I am. Do you trust me?"
You leaned close, and Matt could smell the faint daisy of your perfume. He swallowed hard, nodding.
"I do."
And let you hold his wrist, guiding him to the living room, where your family was still very much engaged in Pictionary. You chose to stand near the snack table, which was in Foggy's line of vision. Your arms touched, and you had to reign in the slight shiver that threatened to break.
Matt leaned in as if to tell you a secret. His husky voice stroked the growing excitement and nervousness in the pit of your stomach.
"Is he looking?"
You pretended to trail your eyes over the game, taking in the sight of a grumpy Foggy. It was obvious that he didn't like how close his friend was to his sister.
"Yes, and he doesn't look too happy about it."
Matt pulled you closer by your arm, keeping his face close to yours. From the look of anyone who didn't know what you were up to, you looked comfortable with one another, borderline intimate. Warm puffs of air tickled your ear, sending a pleasant chill down your spine.
"Is this okay?"
You touched his hand, which still lingered on your arm, giving it a reassuring squeeze.
"It's more than okay."
Surprised by your honesty, the tips of Matt's ears turned pink. You couldn't help the flush that crept onto your face, and you were glad Matt couldn't see how deep the blush was. He cleared his throat, changing the direction of your conversation.
"So … are you going back there after Thanksgiving?"
You nodded before verbalizing your confirmation.
"Yes, I am. In three days. I have to wrap up my quarter's work before the holidays."
"Are you staying there for Christmas? Spending it with someone special?
If you didn't know any better, you would think Matt was testing to see if you were seeing someone. You bit back a smile.
"I'm planning to come home for Christmas and New Year. And uhm, no boyfriend.”
Matt nodded a little too eagerly.
"What about you? Do you have anyone in your life?"
"No. I haven't dated anyone seriously for a long time."
"Oh."
Relief was the last reaction you expected, but your heart skipped a beat, surprising you. The few out-of-place strands fell again, and you couldn't help yourself this time. Your hand grazed Matt's strong jawline, beckoning him to fully turn to you. He obliged, and you swept the hair back, watching his face soften in genuine wonder.
Your mom called everyone to the dining room as dinner was ready, breaking you out of the stupor. You led Matt to the table with his hand resting in the crook of your arm. Matt pulled out a chair for you, like the gentleman he was, and went to take a seat beside you. Foggy tried to slot himself in between, asking if you needed another drink, to which you declined. Theo pulled Foggy away with a warning look, making him sit on the other side of the table. You helped Matt with his plate, filling him in on what was on the table. The dinner carried on, and you continued to have a good time with Matt; the scheme of making Foggy mad was only a distant thing in the back of your mind.
The night ended, almost everyone left, and Matt decided it was his time to go. Despite Foggy's eager assistance to call Matt a cab, he took on your offer to walk him home instead. So you walked side-by-side through the quiescent neighbourhood with his hand on your arm, accompanied by the occasional taps of his cane on the snowy ground. You reminisced about the old days when you attended Columbia just two years behind Foggy and Matt. How Matt would always have something for you to snack on when your stomach grumbled. How he would wait for you and walk you home from your late study sessions at the library. You both chuckled at the present when the roles were reversed before allowing the reticence to settle.
After one and a half blocks, Matt broke the comfortable silence.
"After New Year, are you thinking of staying there for good?"
You took a moment even though deep down you already knew the answer.
"I'm not sure yet. They're giving me a few weeks to decide. I love working there, but … I also missed New York."
Matt hummed softly in response to your answer. He took a deep breath and exhaled before giving voice to his honest thought. So low and small that you almost missed it.
"Then maybe you should come back here."
A suspicion nagged at you, and you knew you would keep wondering about it if you didn't act on it.
"Why are you so curious about whether I stay or not?"
Matt stopped, and you ceased your steps with him.
"Do you want my honest answer?"
Your heart pounded in your chest. Gone was his playful manner, making way for a reserved, more solemn tone.
"Yes, of course."
His mouth opened and closed again. He had a tough time choosing a suitable response, doing his best to construe his complicated thoughts and transparent feelings into words that could bear the weight of the past year. No, the past years that he had known you.
"It's– I would love it if … you stayed here. But the decision is yours and I … I just want you to be happy with wherever you choose."
It wasn't something you expected. If you had to be honest, it wasn't something you expected from Matt. His answer felt personal, like a love letter on the mantle, unopened, but always there where its intended receiver could find and delve into the lovely words transcribed from unspoken feelings.
It took you a few moments, but eventually, you found your voice.
"Do you think I can find that here? My happiness?"
"Of course."
You didn't bother to hold back your bashful smile, reflecting Matt's own. The two of you started walking again, and you nudged his shoulder.
"I'll let you know my decision within a few business days."
His lighthearted chuckle was woven in the wind, the sound of it free and unchained. His apartment came into view, and you wished it was much, much farther away. When you reached the familiar building, you turned to him, watching the little puffs of smoke wafting around his pretty face.
"Thank you for playing along with me back there."
The deep timbre of his soft laugh and his broad smile warmed you from the inside out. Much more effective than Foggy's eggnog-without-absinthe.
"No worries. I had a good time teasing Foggy. I'm not looking forward to going in on Monday, though."
Your inside churned with giddiness for the thousand times that night. Why did this feel so easy, being around Matt? You came home with the intention of visiting your family, yet you found something you didn't know you had. It felt natural, like your reflexes. Your action was an extension of that as you stood on your tiptoe, adorning a kiss on Matt's cheek. When you pulled back, the grin on his red-tinted face was full of adoration. You had no doubt that you were blushing, too.
"Goodnight, Matt."
Your whisper was feather-soft, as if you were afraid you could ruin the moment by talking too loudly. Matt's hand lingered on your arm, holding onto the felt of your coat like he didn't want to let you go, just like that day at the airport. You took a few steps backward with reluctance; your eyes committed the sight of him to your memories. You looked back after a good distance away, and you could see Matt standing where you had left him, gazing in your direction. An unspoken promise in between.

make a decision | elias pettersson
summary: elias makes his decision
part one
-
The next available flight that Elias could get was the next evening, he’d called the airlines and surfed the internet but to no avail the first available seat was over twenty-four hours later.
He desperately wanted to be with you, to find you and talk about this.
He told him family what happened, why you left and how upset he was with himself.
They were upset with him too, shouting at him how they raised a better son and how disappointed they were by his reaction.
He felt horrible. He felt like a horrible person, boyfriend and dad.
He however felt a million times worse when the news played the next morning.
“and we have breaking news coming out of Canada! An international flight has crashed coming in to Vancouver. It’s not yet been announced which flight it was or where it departed from… there have been several casualties reported”
Elias felt like he couldn’t breathe.
He began crying, grabbing his phone to see if there was any extra news and trying to call you.
He got your voicemail time and time again.
He couldn’t sit here any longer, he had to do something. So he took himself to the airport — if it was your flight he’d be better in Vancouver than in Sweden.
The entire time in the airport, Elias was pacing back for forth, asking random by-passers any news on the plane crash.
If by a strike of luck, as Elias sat on his plane seat on the runway his phone lit up with a notification
‘it has been confirmed the vancouver flight crash originated out of heathrow airport - 6 people have been confirmed injured’
Maybe he should have felt guilty about the relief he felt when he read that.
It wasn’t relief those people were hurt.
It was relief that you were safe, his love was safe and his baby was safe.
The almost 10 hour flight was just filled with anxiety and Elias’ seat-mate was not too fond of his very shaky leg.
By the time he touched down in Vancouver airport Elias was sure he was going to have a panic attack, he tried calling you again.
There was still no answer.
He had claimed his luggage and went through customs before he fought his way through just about every tourist in the taxi rank so he could get a ride to the apartment.
When he got there he ran in, straight to the elevator completely ignoring the doorman who was welcoming him home.
When he made it to the apartment, he fumbled around in his pocket for keys — his fingers were too shaky to get a proper grip.
He flicked through the keys; his home in Sweden, Brock’s apartment, Canucks training facility, Nils’ home and finally your apartment.
The door unlocked and he threw the door open, letting out loud, winded breaths.
His eyes immediately fell on your sleeping form on the couch, fast asleep.
Shutting the door quietly as to not wake you , he rushed over to your sleeping form.
Kissing your head, his thumb rubbing over your cheek and pressing kisses on your shoulder too before he pulled the blanket from behind the couch over you.
After, he sat on the floor next to you in silence just staring at your chest rising up and down with every breath.
He sat there for four hours, not a word, not a sound before he began to fall asleep. When you woke, you saw his face not too far from yours, his head had fallen to the side and lay next to your stomach.
You grabbed a pillow from behind your head, lifting his softly and sliding it under knowing that he was going to wake up with a sore neck if he slept like that any longer.
You lay there a little longer, hand carding through his hair and scratching his scalp lightly.
He hadn’t chased you down the hallway of his parents home but he had followed you back to Vancouver. Maybe he was here to tell you to leave? To pack his stuff?
You didn’t get much of a chance to continue down the rabbit hole you had begun mentally climbing as Elias stirred awake under your hand.
You smiled at him softly “hey, baby, hey”
Once he’s fully regained his consciousness he grabbed your hand and kissed your knuckles repeatedly. You only let him, in this moment just needing to be by him.
The sweet moment soon turned to worry when you felt his tears on your hand and watched his shoulders shake with sobs
“Hey, hey what’s going on? What’s wrong?”
“I thought- I thought I’d lost you” he gasped.
You furrowed your eyebrows “I wouldn’t leave, I told you this was your choice. I just had to come home, I’ve been home waiting for you” you explained.
He shook his head “No, no there was a plane crash and I thought- I thought you were hurt, the baby was hurt!”
Your heart simultaneously broke and soared as you listened to him.
Your hands gripped the sides of his head and made him look at you “Babe, I’m here! We’re okay I promise…”
“I was so scared” Is all he said, now pushed up on his knees to kiss you.
When you pulled away from the kiss and your foreheads rested against one another he said
“I want this baby, I want this baby with you! I was scared and selfish but I love you and I know we are going to be good parents”
You sucked in your bottom lip and nodded “I can do this alone if you’re not confident, please don’t do this if you are not-“
He cut you off with another kiss “I am one hundred percent sure I want to start a family with the woman I love”
The tears that lined your eyes fell and you smiled “We’re having a baby”
He nodded “We’re having a baby”
You watched as Elias moved down your body, pulling the blanket down to your waist before you felt your shirt lift and he kissed your belly
“du är redan mitt allt” you are my everything already
You laughed “What are you two talking about down there?”
Elias smiled “That’s between me and baby”
“Can’t mom know?” “No, then we’ll let out all of our secrets”
You only smiled and said “I love you ‘lias, so much”
“I love You more, my angel”
Six months later and they were still up to their secret conversations.
You lay in your hospital bed listening to Elias speak to Astrid in Swedish.
“jag älskar dig redan, astrid” I love you already, astrid
She cooed, no idea what her dad was saying.
“din mamma är bäst. vi är så lyckliga som har henne” your mom is the best we’re so lucky to have her
You could identify words, not sentences. They were talking about you “You two talking about me?”
Elias looked up at you, still bouncing your daughter in his arms “it’s secret, we won’t tell our secrets”
You only rolled your eyes “you two and your secrets”

Stargirl | matildas x original character fic [part seventeen]

So after spending the past three weeks and Christmas with their families, it was time for the Sweden Squad to jet off to Fiji for new years, basking in the sun before heading back to the Sweden cold.
They had all departed from their closest airports, figuring it was easier and cheaper than all congregating to one airport then taking another flight from there, so they were all arriving in Fiji at separate times.
In Astrid fashion, the youngest member was the last to touchdown and make her way to the hotel, getting slightly lost in the airport after landing, trying to make her way to the taxi departures. It also didn’t help that her bag was the last to come out from the plane, waiting almost an hour for it to appear. It was honestly a miracle nothing else went wrong.
“Maybe we should have taken a flight together, it might have been an easier experience on my end.” Astrid spoke as she appeared behind the other three girls who were waiting in the hotel lobby for her.
“Took your sweet old time then.” Kyra laughed while getting up as Charli raced to hug Astrid, who then flipped the brunette off behind Charli’s back with a smile.
“You know what Kyra-.” Astrid let go of Charli and began walking closer to Kyra.
“No!” Courtney pointed between the two girls, stopping them in their tracks. “You two will not fight while we’re here, I’m not dealing with it, this is our relaxation time.” She looked sternly between the misfits who nodded at her, holding in their laughs that threatened to escape.
“No fighting.” Kyra put her hand out to shake, Astrid stepping forward to connect her hand to hers.
“No fighting.” Astrid repeated before pulling Kyra into a hug as well.
“Alright, let's get you unloaded and off to the beach we go!” Charli had grabbed hold of the bags Astrid dropped during her arrival and signalled to the lifts, everyone else following behind as they headed to their shared room.
The rest of their arrival day was spent on the beach, soaking in more sun and swimming in the beautiful water, enjoying their time together. And after a nice dinner, followed by a bit of partying, the four players eventually made it to bed and slept well into the next day.
The group had decided not to plan anything for the 5 days they were there, wanting to just unwind and decide on the day if they wanted to do anything. But Astrid just wanted to swim like she had the whole time she was home.
Growing up right on the water instilled this love and connection in her, wanting to spend as much time as she could before heading back to Sweden where the chance to swim was nonexistent unless it was in the form of an ice bath.
This was something Astrid had been pondering for a little bit, whether Sweden really was the place for her. There was much to love; she was thriving at Hammarby, she was with her best friends everyday, she was experiencing life in a new place. But like she had felt when talking with Steph a few months ago, there was something missing but she couldn’t place it.
Her deep thoughts were rudely interrupted when a pair of hands gripped her shoulders and disrupted her peaceful float in the pool. She let out a scream and quickly stood up in the water, turning around to face the culprit that had a wide grin spreading across her face.
“KYRA! Really?!” Astrid pushed Kyra by the shoulders, earning a laugh from Kyra and holding back her own laugh.
“What! I just wanna have some fun.” Kyra flashed her smile and it broke Astrid, the younger girl shaking her head and biting back a smile. “You wanna play mermaids?”
“Kyra Cooney-Cross, you are more of a child than Harper.” Astrid joked yet Kyra seemed to take it as a compliment, smiling even wider. “Come on then.” Astrid nodded her head to the deeper part of the pool, taking off under the water and Kyra excitingly swimming behind her.
Charli and Courtney watched from their pool chairs, shaking their heads at the duo and their childish nature that seemed to match one another perfectly. Everyone was marvelled at what the pair seemed to be oblivious to but wouldn't dare bring it up, waiting for them to eventually figure it out.
New Year's Eve. The most exciting and fun night of the year, especially when you were partying it up in Fiji with your best friends.
They spent the day lounging around once again before heading off to get ready for the hotel’s party that had been set up. Before the party had even started the girls were already tipsy and borderline drunk, taking their pre-drinks a little harder than normally, but they were on holidays so why not.
As usual, Astrid was the last one to be ready, rushing the final steps of her makeup because Charli was hounding her to hurry up so they could get down to the party. They made it down in time, nearing 11pm and the party was definitely going strong. Everyone from the hotel had gathered outside near the pool area mingling with one another, celebrating the year ahead and most of all getting drunk as hell.
Although they were professional athletes who were on pretty healthy regimes, no one was here to stop them from getting drunk and having fun like normal young people in their late teens and early 20s. So it went without saying that there were no limits to the amount of drinks they would consume tonight.
The four of them stayed together for the first part of the night, dancing near the DJ and scouring the people around them to hopefully find someone for a midnight kiss, but very clearly struggling as they all stood in a close circle downing drink after drink. Eventually they split up, hoping to find luck by not standing together and closing off everyone else around them.
Time had passed and suddenly it was 5 minutes till midnight; plenty of time to find a random stranger for a New Year’s kiss, right? Surely it can’t be that hard to find. But yet here Astrid was, eyeing off everyone and anyone that looked like they could be her type, but finding no one to do the job.
3 minutes. She didn’t know where the other girls were and was getting slightly overwhelmed by the people around her, she ended up retreating out of the crowd outside and finding her way back inside the hotel.
2 minutes. Astrid finds an empty hallway to find her breath, using the wall behind her to stabilise her as the alcohol makes her head spin. The music outside had decreased in volume largely, fading into the background of her ears, instead hearing the thump of her heartbeat in her chest.
1 minute. She had zoned out while staring at the wall opposite her, the patterns on the wallpaper seemed to be moving or maybe it was her as she swayed on her feet, her body feeling the effects of the alcohol now that she had stopped. This is how Kyra found her, stumbling down the hallway herself when she spotted a familiar face.
“Hey there.” Kyra’s slightly slurred words broke Astrid out of her trance and turned her head towards the midfielder, a smile instantly appearing on her lips.
“Kyra!” Astrid’s voice was high pitched as she stepped towards Kyra with a wide smile, wrapping her hands around Kyra’s neck and pulling her into a hug.
“I thought we lost you to someone in the crowd.” Kyra embraced the hug before pulling back, Astrid’s arms staying where they were and Kyra’s subconsciously falling to Astrid’s waist. And if there wasn’t plenty of liquid courage involved, both girls would have never found themselves so close so casually.
“Too many people and I couldn’t find you.” Astrid playfully booped Kyra’s nose, both girls laughing before focusing in on the noise coming from outside.
Seven…six…five…
“It’s almost midnight.” Kyra whispered, bringing Astrid’s attention back to her, the countdown fading to the background once again.
“Yeah.” Astrid breathed out. Her heart began racing as her eyes fell back on Kyra’s.
Four…
Three…
Two…
One…
The group outside cheered as the clock struck midnight, fireworks going off on the beach and yet Astrid and Kyra couldn’t be less interested.
All they were interested in was the fact they were closer than before and now their lips were touching.
Astrid’s hands had moved up from their place on Kyra’s neck, now resting on her cheeks as Kyra held her close by the waist.
The kiss lasted 22 seconds before they both realised what was happening and they stepped apart. The noise outside returned to its full volume as they stepped back into reality, awkwardly looking away from each other.
“Should we…” Astrid spoke as she pointed back to the glass doors that led back outside.
“Uh… yeah… probs.” Kyra nodded and they walked back outside, Astrid once again feeling overwhelmed with the amount of people squished together. Kyra noticed her hesitation and silently placed her hand in Astrid’s, keeping her close as they weaved through the crowd together. Astrid followed, trying to ignore the feeling of having Kyra’s hand in hers and instead focusing on finding Courtney and Charli.
“There you guys are!” Charli’s voice was what helped them locate the two girls, Astrid and Kyra turning around instantly, dropping their hands and stepping closer to them. “Where were you for the countdown?” Charli looked at Astrid, Courtney was now talking to Kyra separately.
“Uh somewhere over the back.” She looked vaguely in that direction before Charli spoke again.
“Did you get your midnight kiss?” Charli teased with a big smile. Astrid paused for a second before answering.
“Uh yeah, I did.” Astrid scratched the back of her neck. “I think I’m gonna head up.” Astrid just wanted to get away and go to bed, her brain moving too fast for her to keep up with the thoughts.
“You sure? You okay?” Charli instantly became worried but Astrid was quick to brush her off.
“Yeah I think I had too much, stay safe okay.” Astrid gave her a hug before weaving herself back through the crowd and back to their room.
“Where’s stargirl?” Courtney asked as Charli reappeared beside her, herself and Kyra noticing that Astrid was now missing.
“To bed. Said she had too much to drink.” Charli shrugged her shoulders, Courtney nodded along before taking another sip of her own drink but Kyra was concerned and slightly disappointed but kept it to herself.
The next day didn’t start till almost 1pm when they all finally rolled out of bed, slowly pushing back the curtains to let in some light but not enough to further increase their pounding headaches. They headed straight down to lunch, hoping to soak up any remaining alcohol and cure their growing hangovers.
A few words were mumbled between one another but it seemed like more than a few were too much energy and they fell back into silence. To be honest, Astrid didn’t have much she wanted to talk about, especially because there wasn’t much of last night she remembered. Except for a very specific moment she was very scared to bring up.
Kyra had easily returned to her normal self by dinner time, once again acting more like a child than an adult and attempting to encourage the other girls to join in. Astrid slowly joined in with her antics and jokes, watching Courtney and Charli shake their heads in disappointment but silently hiding their laughs behind stern faces.
It seemed to Astrid like all had returned to normal within the group, Kyra obviously not wanting to bring it up or she in fact had no recollection of the kiss, which Astrid was grateful for. But there was a feeling in her stomach she couldn’t pinpoint when she thought about Kyra and the kiss, choosing to push it to the side and continue on with their holiday as normal.
After one last day of fun in the sun, the group had returned to the airport, dreading heading back into a cold Swedish winter but excited to return to the sport they all love so much. The flight was long, way too long, they had kept themselves entertained individually, movies and naps taking up most of the time. But they finally landed back in Sweden, more than ready to fall in their beds and sleep, especially now that it was leaning towards 11pm. Charli had taken a separate flight from the other three like usual, wanting to land closer to her home and also stay away from Kyra and Astrid who were bound to fight over something and then make up after 5 minutes.
An uber brought them home, dropping Astrid off first before heading up the road to Kyra and Courtney’s place, the younger girl bidding them goodnight as she lugged her suitcase up the front steps. Once inside Astrid locked the door, flicked on the lights and pulled her phone out faster than ever.
“Pick up, pick up, pick up.” Astrid paced her small kitchen as she waited for the line to pick up, looking at the small mess in her living room that she had left behind months ago, before the last Matilda’s camp.
“Hello?” A semi groggy voice answered from the other end and a sigh of relief left Astrid’s mouth.
“Oh thank god.” Astrid was still walking back and forth, bringing her hands up to her mouth.
“Astrid?” Cortnee recognised the voice and quickly acknowledged the slight panic in her voice. “What’s wrong?”
“Something happened and I don’t know what to do.” She began letting out the thoughts that had been building over the past 3 days, running her hands through her hair.
“What do you mean? Are you okay?” Cortnee was even more worried, sitting up a little more as concern raced through her.
“Yeah, no, I’m okay. I think.” Astrid shook her head, squeezing her eyes shut.
“Just calm down and tell me what happened.” Cortnee was trying her best to calm Astrid from the other side of the phone, needing her to speak properly.
“I kissed Kyra. She kissed me. We kissed.” Astrid finally spat it out and bit her nails even more now, waiting almost 10 seconds for Cortnee to process and finally speak.
“WHAT?!” She tried not to shout and wake Charlotte up, crawling out of the bed beside her and moving outside her bedroom. “Are you serious?!” She whispered into the phone, a small smile donning her face.
“Yes.” The line went silent as she waited. “Cortnee, help!” She whined into the phone.
“It’s about fucking time.” Cortnee commented and Astrid was confused.
“What do you mean?” She paused her pacing.
“You guys have been pining and obliviously flirting practically since the day you met, but especially over the last few months, I’m surprised it didn't happen earlier.” Cortnee tried not to let out a laugh.
“No we have not. It wasn’t even supposed to happen.” Astrid let out a frustrated sigh.
“You didn’t do it on purpose?” Now Cortnee was the confused one.
“No… not really.” Astrid paused, letting out a breath. “It was on New Year's Eve. We were both really drunk and I don’t remember much, I don't even know if she remembers.” The familiar feeling returned to her stomach as they brought the moment up again.
“You haven't talked about it?” Cortnee asked her softly.
“No! She didn't say anything the next day or the rest of the trip, we just got back and I needed to call you.” She stopped her pacing. “I’m so sorry, did I wake you?” Astrid prayed she didn’t mess up the timezones and it wasn’t the middle of the night there.
“I was getting up in a few minutes anyway, it’s all good.” Cortnee began walking towards her kitchen and away from her bedroom door.
“Okay.” Astrid let out a soft sigh.
“But you need to talk to her. She might remember it too but is scared you didn't or don’t want to remember.” Cortnee leant against her kitchen bench, hoping to speak some sense into Astrid.
“But I'm scared. What if it was a mistake for her?” Astrid was confused with the feelings that were building inside her as she thought about it again.
“Was it a mistake to you?” Astrid paused at Cortnee’s words, letting her brain stop racing for a moment and focus on a single thought.
“I don't know, I mean I don't regret it…. But I don't know what this would mean for us.” The pacing began again and her heartbeat began to quicken.
“What do you want it to mean?” Cortnee softly asked.
“Stop asking me questions about things I don't know the answers to!” Astrid let out another frustrated sigh.
“You called me for advice!” Cortnee laughed at Astrid’s clear struggle with this issue.
“And I haven't gotten any yet.” Astrid remarked, holding back the small laugh she was harbouring.
“What time is it there?” Cortnee asked her yet another question.
“Almost midnight.” Astrid looked at the clock on the stove.
“You’re probably exhausted, get some sleep, when you get up, think about my questions and maybe, just maybe, you’re both ready to talk about it.” Cortnee reasoned, and finally Astrid was happy with a response.
“Okay. Okay, I'll do that. Thank you, Viney.” Astrid smiled on her end. “Any time, star. Go to sleep.” Cortnee spoke one last time before hanging up, leaving the young forward standing alone in her own kitchen and thinking about Cortnee’s words. But she took her advice and headed off to shower and then crawled into bed, trying to ignore the growing thoughts that began racing around again.
to be continued...

“Because you’re different to me,but in a good way”
With your check-out done you could finally take a breath of relief as you were back in Seoul.
Six beautiful weeks of studying abroad,in Sweden, had finally come to an end and you couldn’t wait to meet your friends.
You crossed the hallway of the airport, reaching the entrance, where Junmyeon was waiting to pick you up and drive you to the welcome party.
As soon as you saw him a jolt of happiness shook your whole body
“Junmyeon!!” you exclaimed out loud, running towards your friend to hug him. Your luggage fell on the ground as you wrapped your arms around his shoulders and your legs around his waist.
Your friend, who was taken by surprised, held you by luck
“You want the both of us to fall” he giggled
“I missed you so much” you showered his face with kisses;he then put you down. Everyone’s eyes were on you two:probably people were thinking he was your boyfriend, but the truth was that you simply used to be warm with your closest friends
“So you are my taxi for today” you teased him, looking as he collected your luggage
“For today? Six weeks were enough to make you forget who used to drive you around Seoul,I see”
“Of course not…I could never forget Irene”
Junmyeon turned around and glared at you:his eyes became two thin lines in the disappointed face he was showing you. You laughed and hit his shoulder with a friendly fist
“Calm down I’m joking,no need to think about leaving me here the whole night”
“I hope so” he replied, sliding your luggage in the trunk of his black car
“So…where’s the welcome party?”
“It’s a surprise” he said, and with that he spent the drive avoiding any kind of question.
It took you around an hour to get to the party. Your friends held it in your favourite karaoke bar in Hongdae. Everyone was there:all your boy friends and girl friends.
“Joy! Yeri! My girls!” with a happy smile you ran toward your friends, hugging them and placing a kiss on their cheeks
“Seulgi and Irene couldn’t come tonight, but the present is from them as well” the younger brunette said, giving you a giant bouquet of flowers
“Thank you all so much,I’ll call them later. You’re amazing” you smiled, putting the flowers next to a bunch of other presents before greeting the friends who had come
“Baekhyunee! My favourite trouble maker” you squished him in your arms
“Jongin,my bear! Magic handshake?” with a laugh the boy stretched his arm out, doing the well know greeting you two had invented;then you hugged him just like you did with Junmyeon earlier
“Minseok! Jongdae!” you locked them in a double hug as they both ruffled your hair
“We thought you would’ve moved to Sweden after spending six weeks of telling us how amazing that country is” the older looked at you with sweet eyes
“I could never live there without you all” you smiled, moving to greet Chanyeol
“Hello giant” you pouted as he playfully lifted you up to greet you
“I’m not a giant, you’re just too short for me” he teased you. You jokingly hit his leg with a kick
“I was trying to be sweet!”
“Try again” he winked as he watched you walking to Yixing and Kyungsoo. You hugged and kissed them as well.
There was one last person you had to greet but as soon as you saw him you froze. Oh Sehun:the prettiest man alive, but also then one who made you the most nervous…it didn’t matter if you had been knowing him for years.
“Hi” you said unintentionally cold, greeting him by a safe distance. There was only one word to describe the scene:embarrassing. Everyone was silent, staring at the two of you or exchanging a few “I wish I were somewhere else” glances;only Baekhyun faked a cough and pushed you towards the tall guy
“Hi” Sehun replied, his voice was flat, uninterested…but what could you expect from him if you had always been so shy when he was around that all you could do was avoiding any kind of friendly interaction? Hate, that was the answer.
You gave him a fast hug and stepped back, grabbing the bag full of gifts from Sweden
“As you know, while studying abroad I’ve joined a pottery club. Now guess what’s in there”
“Biscuits” Baekhyun giggled
“Candies” Jongi talked, randomly rising his hand
“Alcohol” Chanyeol crossed his arms with a satisfied face, probably he was thinking he had just made the joke of the year
“What a perceptive trio, especially Chanyeol. In fact I’ve made personalised mugs for everyone!” your voice was excited
“Gotta expect a bunny on mine I guess” Junmyeon rested his shoulder against the wall
“Not a simple bunny…-you picked up his mug-a bunny swimming in a sea of carrots” you handed him the gift. The boy looked at the object and burst into a laughter
“This looks like a dog swimming in a sea of golden fishes with green tails, but I’ll appreciate the effort” he joked
“Fuck off Kim” you rolled your eyes as you started handing out mugs to everyone
“Is this an astronaut cat or…” Kyungsoo was confused
“Bingo! You see,my drawing skills ain’t that bad”
“They’re not bad, they’re awful” Joy teased you, exchanging a fist with Junmyeon
“Go make Junmyeon your new best friend then,he’s good at lingerie shopping on Saturday”
“What?” Junmyeon’s cheeks became as red as apples
“Nothing!” Joy yelled
“Do you have a specific day to do that?” Minseok asked amused
“She’s talking nonsense” Joy mumbled nervously shaking her hands in the air
You laughed, grabbing the last mug in your bag:it was Sehun’s. You froze again, looking at the present. It was pretty but extremely plain compared to the others:you knew you weren’t actually good at painting, that was why you had planned a different personalisation for his mug. You were too scared he wouldn’t have liked any of your dumb drawings,so you went for a simple pattern;however, just like your behaviour towards him,the energy of that present was pretty cold.
Sehun looked at the object and mumbled a fast “thanks” before abandoning it on a nearby table:it hurt you. Why weren’t you able to give the best of you when it came to that guy? Why you liked him so much that all you could do was ruining every chance to get closer to him?
You smiled, hiding the pain rising from your heart, and then suggested to officially start the night.
You ordered a few drinks and chose the songs to perform at karaoke.
The first one singing was Baekhyun, with his beautiful angel voice, who chose a Michael Jackson song, adding even a few nailed dance moves.
Everyone clapped and laughed, cheering the next in line:Jongdae. He was a classic guy,so he went for a more emotional performance with Hello by Adele. Joy randomly burst into tears during the chorus, but probably it was because of the alcohol which had begun to hit.
You clapped at Jongdae, ordered a bunch of Soju shots and went on with the night.
Around midnight, besides the few friends who had to drive, everyone was drunk.
“It’s too hot,I need some fresh air. I’ll be back” you said, leaving your drink on the table
“Shall I come with you?” Minseok asked, but you shook your head
“I’m fine don’t worry” you smiled, and walked outside.
As soon as you closed the entrance door of the karaoke bar you noticed Sehun standing a few steps away from you. He was resting against the wall while scrolling through his phone.
You gave him a glance, shivers crossing your spine, but even tho you wanted it you had no chance to leave as he saw you
“I didn’t notice you’ve left the party” you murmured, trying to broke the tension, but you made it worse
“I’m not surprised” Sehun shrugged his shoulders.
You didn’t know what to say:you felt sorry for him,you had never meant to be perceived as the petty bitch, but any time you tried to change things you only made it worse by accident. It had been like that since day one and you had lost hope by then.
You sighed and scratched the back of your neck
“I didn’t mean it in that way” you murmured, looking at him
“Okay” he replied, shifting his attention on the phone again.
The silence fell, only the sweet sound of the night breeze could be heard. You knew it was the right moment to talk to him, tell him that,at least, you didn’t hate him like he thought
“Sehun-“ you called him
“Mh?” he murmured, eyes still stuck on the phone
“I-you were about to speak when you felt a retch coming up from your stomach-I need the bathroom” you spat out and ran away.
Sehun looked at you confused for a second, but as soon as he understood you were sick he followed you.
You held onto the sink of the bathroom and threw up. You weren’t feeling dizzy, but probably your stomach wasn’t used anymore to the amount of Soju you had drank that night. After all,you had spent six weeks in a place in which no one knew what Soju was,you should’ve predicted it.
“Are you okay?” Sehun pushed your hair back while massaging your back, you couldn’t see his eyes but a ring of concern had replaced the usual shine of his pupils.
Once you felt a little better you washed your face and sat, resting your back against the sink.
Sehun sat next you, waiting for you to feel better. Once again the embarrassing silence fell, and you hated yourself.
“Shall I call someone else? Maybe Junmyeon or Jongdae?”
“No I’m fine” you shook your head
“Thank you” you said in hope to make it less uncomfortable
“Nevermind” he replied.
Again,silence.
You sighed, sure it was time to talk
“I don’t hate you,you know?” you said, rising your head to look into Sehun’s eyes. The boy furrowed his eyebrows, then he shifted his eyes away without saying anything
“I’m being honest” you kept on talking, scanning the boy’s features. By the small changes his expression went through, you knew he was feeling so many emotions all at once.
“I don’t care if you hate me or not. I never asked you anyway” he spat out, coldly. At those words your heart shattered into a million pieces. So that was it:he didn’t care about you while you were so worried of hurting him;or…was he saying that just because he was already hurt? Maybe even more than what you expected. You felt so confused.
“You may not care, but I do”
“You should’ve showed it earlier” he scoffed
“I’m not good at it” you sighed
“Not good?-Sehun rose his voice-am I blind to you? So you think I don’t see how you treat other people? I wasn’t there but I am sure you hugged and kissed Junmyeon as soon as you saw him at the airport, you always do it with everyone…or,at least, everyone but me. However,I don’t care. I don’t need your approval to live happily” he was about to get up and leave, but you grabbed his wrist and dragged him back on the floor.
“You matter to me!” you exclaimed
A “tsk” escaped Sehun’s lips,followed by a sour laughter
“Stop fooling me” he shrugged your hand off and tried to leave again, but you didn’t give up.
You jumped on your feet and pushed the brunette against the sink;one of his hands held your arm while the other the sink itself. Your eyes chained together while your faces were a few inches away.
“I would never fool you Sehun. You can tell me you don’t care, but I know that’s not true, you always care about everything and everyone. That’s the thing I like the most about you because,as I said earlier,I do like you”
“Then why you barely talk to me? Why your behaviour is always ice cold?”
“Because…-you paused-because you’re different to me,but in a good way”
“You’re talking nonsense”
“I’m not! It’s so hard, there’s so much to say”
“Then say it”
“I can’t Sehun”
The boy rolled his eyes: “Why?”
“Because…” you stayed silent,words didn’t come out
“Because what Y/n? Can you be clear for once? I’m tired of always trying to understand what’s going on your mind. It makes me mad…as mad as seeing you being sweet with everyone but me!”
The last phrase unintentionally escaped Sehun’s lips, you could tell by his expression:he had been trying to not show how much jealous and hurt he was,but he wasn’t good at lying.
You looked at him for a second, then you finally opened up:
“Because I think I’m in love with you!” you spat out, regretting it as soon as you realised what you had just said.
Sehun blinked confused while his grip tightened around your arm. You couldn’t stop looking at him,you were waiting for a reaction, but,at the same time, you wanted to disappear.
“Forget about it! My mistake!” you exclaimed, trying to run away, but this time it was the brunette who held you back:it didn’t matter how much you tried to free yourself from his grip, his fingers wouldn’t let go.
“Y/n!” he called you,you turned around.
You thought you had officially lost any chance to build an actual friendship with him when, suddenly,he brought you closer and kissed you. Your heart skipped a beat and your body was suddenly crossed by shivers:what was happening? You didn’t realise it immediately,it took you a while to process.
“If you were in love with me why you avoided me that much?” Sehun spoke in a warm, gentle whisper. His face was no more contracted in a disappointed expression, otherwise he was now relieved.
“Having you around made my nervous, and I’m not good at handling emotions” you mumbled,as red as a strawberry. Sehun smiled and ruffled your hair:
“You don’t need to worry about it anymore”
And with that, things changed faster than what you expected:the boy’s presence started to feel like home while his hoodies became your new favourite thing, that thing you couldn’t get tired of. His smile became your ray of sun and his hugs your most effective medicine. Sehun was constantly by your side, both in the good and the bad, while you were there for him anytime he needed.
To summon everything up:you were finally happy,so happy that, soon, none of you tried to hide your relationship, nor to explain it;so,at a certain point, all your friends noticed but never said anything. They would simply cheer for you in silence, watching you two holding hands in front of them, exchanging kisses;they would watch how you two sat together, linking arms,or how Sehun paid for your drinks and carried your bags…and they would be grateful for that because, finally, there was no more heavy silence, just lots of love and affection.

Everybody say hello to Queen Ana of Flufferton!
She landed here in Sweden on Tuesday & has now been living with me for a few days. Ana is a 7-year-old podenco & galgo español mix who spent the first couple of years as a hunting dog (hence the many scars) but one day she was just dumped at a dog rescue. No one knows why she was abandoned but she stayed there for a couple of years before she was moved to SOS Animals dog rescue in Malaga.
I spotted her on their website already in Dec. 2021 & fell in love with her immediately. She sounded like the perfect dog but I wasn't in a position to welcome her then. Then back in autumn 2022, I went on their website & she was still there! Despite having been up for adoption for over a year & half, no one had adopted her yet!
So I answered the questionnaire & had two interviews before it was decided that Ana was going to come live with me. I was a bit worried that maybe they would say no, seeing as I'm a university student & that I was clear that it's not until the beginning of 2023 that I could welcome her into my home. But I was accepted, all of the payments went through & then it was decided that Ana was gonna fly into Sweden with three other dogs from the dog rescue on Jan. 17.
Of course, as the time pessimist that I am, I ended up being at the airport almost two & half hours earlier than I needed 😂 Did some people-watching & managed to do some reading for uni but, most of the time was spent drinking coffee & nervously combing my hair (a bad habit of mine).
One of the dogs was really stressed out & aggressive, the other two were young little puppies & then we had Ana who was cool as a cucumber. Most likely wondering why we disturbed her during her nap! But yes, Ana was the first one allowed out from her cage. A little confused but calm & curious over where she had ended up.
As you can see, I had a leash, collar & harness with me. Of course in purple, seeing as that colour is associated with royalty & Ana is called a princess by everyone who has met her! But we decided to not switch collars or harness there at the airport. Apart from what she was wearing, she was also travelling with some more clothes - a gift from the dog rescue in Malaga seeing as she had been there for almost 2 years.
One of Ana's favourite things is to ride in the car but seeing as I don't have my driver's license yet, I booked "the dog taxi" to drive us from the airport back home (about a 40-45-minutes ride). The first few minutes were exciting & then she slept almost the whole way 😂 Now Ana is a lady of strong integrity, she loves humans & she loves humans' attention but she doesn't like other dogs. Well, if they're calm & stay out of her face, then dogs are okay. The cage is to make sure no accidents happen but it also makes her relax. I could have removed it during the ride but seeing as I was a complete stranger to her, she was in this new & weird environment (what's that white thing on the ground?), you know, all these impressions etc. I figured if she now relaxes more when wearing it, I'm just gonna let her wear it until we're home.
As you can see in the photo, one of the first things she did was test out my bed & I think it's safe to say it passed the test 😂 Though, we have now ended up in a situation where if I spend "too much" time at the office/living room or in the kitchen, Ana starts to cry & complain. So a mere part of the day is spent in the bedroom so she can keep an eye on me whilst also cosy up on my bed or in the dog bed.
Some photos are taken by me & some are from SOS Animals. If you want to learn more about podencos, galgos or the situation for those breeds in Spain, you can check out Galgos del Sol.

Tag 14. 17.07.2023
Day 14. July 14, 2023
Journey back to Singapore. A relatively quiet day started with us checking out of our villa and heading to a local café. We had breakfast, and Wilson took care of administrative matters related to his semester abroad in Sweden. Webster went off to buy a Bali-Cappie for Nic. After a 90-minute search, Webster negotiated and bought 2 Cappies for 170K IDR instead of 450K IDR (about £10), and he was extremely proud of his success. We then went to the airport together, grabbed a quick bite before check-in, and departed with a delay. Nic picked us up from the airport at midnight, handed over our large suitcases (which we had left in Singapore), and drove us to McDonald's. Two very tired chaps had a Big Mac and the local delicacy called "McSpicy" before heading to the hotel. We promptly went to bed at 1:30 am as a long night awaited us. Our taxi will arrive at precisely 3:30 am.

🏴So this is my first ever visit to Scotland and Edinburgh. There have been many firsts this year for me (Mexico, Romania, Belgium, now Scotland and soon Ireland), and it’s only january. I noticed now that I’m writing in english 🤦♂️😂. Too much english for me the last couple of days. Hahaha. So I’ll finish this post in english just this time. . 💊Don’t ask me how, but I managed to get new medicin here in Edinburgh. My medicin are all on prescription but I found some nice girls in a pharmacy that helped me get my meds. Lifesavers! At the first pharmacy I visited, I couldn’t even get some pills that we don’t need prescription for in Sweden… there’s a big difference with service and SERVICE. So now I actually could stay away 14 days more. And the mess were really cheap as well! Costed med 1/3 of what I pay i Sweden. . 🏴I have just been here a couple of hours and I already love this city! It’s f*cking beautiful here! But why they try to kill me with that left traffic😂. And I also had to buy a converter for the electrical outlet… . 📸 1. Great sky today! 📸 2. First time in a long time, the plane wasn’t full. Lovely! 📸 3. Transfer from airport to Edinburgh? 10/10! Easy to find and both buses, taxis and trams. And cheap as well! 📸 4. I love the architechture here!😍 📸 5. I have only seen one man with a kilt. I love kilts! 📸 6. The smallest pub in Scotland 📸 7. Beautiful city! Love the old houses, the hilly terrain, cobblestones etc etc. 📸 8. And there are amazing building here. Big castles and churches. 📸 9. Didn’t visit any gay places in Mexico, Romania or Belgium. Especially Brussels have a big gay area with many bars. But I wasn’t in the mood at all. This is the first gay bar I visit this year. Almost empty. A older crowd. Good music. Planet Bar and Kitchen. 🎞️ 10. Found a korean restaurant. It was so good! Especially the seafood pancake. The best I’ve ever had. But I regret not doing the Korean BBQ. That looked awesome! ….. 🦕Booked a trip to Loch Ness on friday. I’m going to catch that little monster!😂 ….. #edinburgh #scotland #visitscotland #visitedinburgh #traveblog #travelbug #explorer #travelgram #travelphotography #travel (på/i Edinburgh, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn2jfq6MyIi/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Why You Should Choose Taxis with Car Seats for Your Family in Stockholm
When travelling with children in Stockholm, ensuring their safety and comfort during transit should be a top priority. One crucial aspect of this is selecting taxis that offer car seats for your little ones. With Sweden’s strict road safety regulations and a strong culture of child protection, finding family-friendly transportation in Stockholm is both necessary and relatively easy. This guide explores why you should choose taxis with car seats in Stockholm and answers some common questions about these services.
Safety First: The Importance of Car Seats
The most compelling reason to choose a taxi with a car seat in Stockholm is safety. Car seats are designed to protect children in the event of an accident by providing the proper restraint and support that standard seat belts cannot offer. In Sweden, the law mandates that all children under 135 cm (approximately 4 feet 5 inches) must use an appropriate car seat or booster seat when travelling in a vehicle, including taxis. By choosing a taxi with a car seat, you’re not only complying with the law but also ensuring that your child is as safe as possible during the ride.
Comfort and Convenience for Families
Travelling with young children can be challenging, especially in a new city. Having a taxi that comes equipped with a car seat eliminates the need to carry your own, which can be bulky and inconvenient. Moreover, a properly fitted car seat ensures that your child is comfortable during the journey, whether you’re heading to a museum, a restaurant, or back to your hotel after a long day of sightseeing.
Stockholm’s taxi services are well aware of the needs of families, and many companies provide car seats on request. This makes it easier for parents to plan their trips and reduces the stress associated with family travel. Whether you’re a tourist or a local, the convenience of having a car seat available in your taxi allows you to focus on enjoying your time in the city.
How to Book a Taxi with a Car Seat in Stockholm
Booking a taxi with a car seat in Stockholm is straightforward. Most taxi companies offer easy booking options through their apps or websites. When making a reservation, be sure to specify that you need a car seat and provide details about your child’s age and size. This will ensure that the taxi company provides the correct type of seat for your child, whether it’s a rear-facing seat for an infant or a booster seat for an older child.
If you’re arriving at Stockholm Arlanda Airport or another major transportation hub, you can also pre-book a taxi with a car seat to avoid any delays upon arrival. This is particularly useful if you’re travelling with young children and want to ensure a smooth transition from the airport to your accommodation.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. Are car seats required by law in taxis in Stockholm?
Yes, Swedish law requires that all children under 135 cm (approximately 4 feet 5 inches) use an appropriate child safety seat when travelling in a vehicle, including taxis. This means that if you’re travelling with young children, you must ensure that your taxi provides a suitable car seat.
2. Do I need to pay extra for a taxi with a car seat in Stockholm?
In most cases, there is no significant extra charge for a taxi with a car seat in Stockholm. Many taxi companies offer this service free of charge or for a small fee. It’s always a good idea to confirm any additional costs when booking your ride.
3. How can I ensure that the car seat provided by the taxi is safe and properly installed?
When the taxi arrives, take a moment to inspect the car seat and ensure that it’s in good condition and correctly installed. You can ask the driver for assistance in checking the seat’s installation. Most taxi drivers in Stockholm are trained to install car seats properly, but it’s always worth double-checking for your peace of mind.
4. Can I use a ride-hailing app like Uber to get a taxi with a car seat in Stockholm?
While Uber operates in Stockholm, the availability of child seats through the app may vary. For more reliable options, it’s advisable to use local taxi companies like Taxi Stockholm , which offer car seats as part of their standard services.
Conclusion
Choosing a taxi with a car seat in Stockholm is not just a matter of convenience—it’s about ensuring the safety and comfort of your children during your travels. With strict regulations in place and a variety of family-friendly taxi services available, it’s easy to find a reliable option that meets your needs. By planning ahead and selecting the right service, you can enjoy a stress-free and enjoyable trip with your family in one of Europe’s most beautiful cities. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, making the choice to prioritize safety and comfort will allow you to focus on creating lasting memories with your loved ones.

Norway & Scandinavia Travel Tips
Oslo | Flam Train | Nærøyfjord & Sognefjord | Bergen | Copenhagen | Malmo, Sweden | Norway travel tips
Since our kids loved Iceland so much, I tried to find other destinations with beautiful nature and temperate weather. Norway topped the list with its famous fjords.
Summer is a great time to go due to the long days. Weather wise, note the west fjord part of Norway including Bergen rain a lot. But at least when we were there it was mostly showers, rain and sun, except for 1 day when it rained on and off.
FLIGHTS
I usually find flights on Google Flights. The Explore Option can give you the best price in the next 6 months for your destination of choice. So right now it says it's $417 to go to Bergen round trip in early November and only $304 to go to Copenhagen in mid September. We spent more to go in August during kids' vacation.
GETTING AROUND
There is a Norway in a Nutshell route that you can do on your own (probably cheaper), with trains to the fjords and fjord cruise. We did just that, flying into Oslo with a stopover in Copenhagen. Then you can buy:
Train ticket from Oslo S to Flam Stasjon on Vy. This is really two trains: from Oslo to Myrdal (5 hours) on Bergen Railway, and from Myrdal to Flam (1 hour) on Flam Railway. In the summer, ticket can cost $150 per person.
Fjord cruises (typically 2 hours) from Flam to Gudvangen. We actually didn't do that, and chose to do kayak tour from Nordic Ventures leaving from Gudvangen. You can also rent a boat from Flam here to drive yourself.
Bus from Flam or Gudvangen to Voss then train to Bergen. We actually didn't quite do that either, and took a Ferry on Norled from Flam, to see more of the Sognefjord. The ferry costs $50, takes 5 hours so not as fast as the bus/train option.
One thing to note about buying train tickets on Vy, they only take European credit cards or Paypal.
Getting around in Bergen or Oslo is super easy, there's metro and Uber everywhere, and taxi from the airport. Getting around the Flam / fjord area isn't as easy. There's no Uber and we read you'd have to book taxis ahead. We ended up riding buses around, and that took planning too. Different buses operate on different schedule. You can see the options at Skyss (buy onboard) or Norways Best.
Last but not least, did you know that about a quarter of cars in Norway are electric vehicles! And over 80% of new cars sold in Norway were EVs. So we got rides in Tesla Ubers and an electric Mustang. The Tesla driver was proud and loves it. The immigrant driver of the Mustang did complain that he'd prefer a gas car that feels more like a real car. ;-)
WHERE TO STAY
We stayed in Airbnbs for most of the trip. It costs generally about $500 a night for our extended family of 6 in the most central locations. More affordable compared to our other travel choice, Banff, Canada. The only exception is Flam: limited selection and lots of travelers. We ended up staying in Aurland for a more peaceful and scenic town and paid a bit more. Another budget option is Gudvangen cabins that cost about $130 per night for 4 people.
THINGS TO DO
Norway is really a paradise for being active and exploring nature. My father-in-law said it's his favorite place, even compared with Iceland, our kids' fave. There's just so much to see and do. With 2 grandparents and 2 kids, some of our favorite things:
Kayaking in the fjords
Floating sauna in Oslo
Enjoying the fjord views in Aurland
Train ride to Flam
Hiking in Bergen
Canal boat ride in Copenhagen
Boat rental in the fjords - it was cold, wet and windy. We might have enjoyed it more with better weather.

Flying home
Thursday - 6/27/24
We flew back home today. It was a long day. We got up at 3:00am and took a Tesla taxi to the airport. The picture below is at the Bergen airport at 4:00am. The sun was just about ready to rise, after setting last night at 11:10pm. We had a 6:00am flight from Bergen to Amsterdam, where we connected with a direct flight to San Francisco.
Our flight from Bergen left a little late due to a backup at Amsterdam airport. When we landed in Amsterdam, there were no gates available. After a 10-minute wait, we were diverted to the KLM cargo area, deplaned on the tarmac, and bused back to the terminal.
It took us about an hour to get through passport control in the airport. What a zoo! Global Entry doesn’t help you in Amsterdam. I think they should rename "Global Entry" to "US Entry" because it only helps once you are on US soil. Based on this event, Amsterdam is now tied with Frankfurt in my mind as a miserable airport in Europe to make a connection. The picture below shows the mob of people waiting to go through passport control.
Our flight from Amsterdam to San Francisco was uneventful, and we arrived in SFO around 11:30am. Global Entry was a quick two minute process.
From there, we took BART back home. After spending over three weeks in Sweden and Norway, which have excellent electric subways and trains, riding BART was an adjustment. The trains/subways in Scandinavia were smooth and relatively quiet. Riding BART, the train swayed from side to side, and the wheels squealed at times so loudly that we couldn't even have a conversation—it even set off an alert on MaryEllen’s Apple Watch because the sound had reached an unsafe 85 decibels.
But it was nice to be home and see the sunshine :-).

just got home from the airport a few hours ago, and it was lovely in london, but damn its so fkn nice to be in my disabled friendly home and bed. it's wonderful.
it's weird how lovely london was. i feel like.. i can now easily see myself living there..?
and like. idk i thought sweden (where ive lived my whole life) kind of maybe was my only choice, W my disabilities and queernesses.
but like. i had a long talk w a taxi driver we took a fare W, who was disabled too, and we just opened up and talked about or disabilities and exp W it in our countries.
and he just began telling me about all these new disability aids that were put into law this year there. and it's like. i even said at one point (after saying it seems so unreal because it sounded too good to be true) that at some point it had to be a practical joke, right?.
because England, or at least London? is so... Way Miles Miles Miles ahead of Any disability rights I've ever heard of being put into existence in a country ever before.
like it's miles ahead of swedens, esp the disability laws I live with in my part.
and like.
it's just. those things would be life changing.
if they are real and true, i am so, so so so so so happy such huge wonderful progress has happened in England! i really sincerely hope it stays and gets even better and all people in need can have those things, and spreads accross our whole world!
though, with a few caveats.
1. the sidewalks in central london, are very hard to navigate - because they tilt like, Everywhere.
my friend pushed me in a manual wheelchair we borrowed from the hotel and it was Tough!!!! (and scary)
2. and most importantly, for me, you still have to work a hundred percent to get those rights and live there.
and i am not able to work in my country, and haven't been my whole life, due to my very strong disabilities. (that i have been working to rehabilitate - cause alto I don't dream of labour, i believe in my work of loves/passion projects, and also having more money than the v little I get from my disability aid in sweden) but more disabilities popping up and life and world crisises has several times slowed progress)
but i think, considering there are so many others rights there (that the taxi driver talked of, anyway) that i think there - i could have a great shot in actually being able to work?
because like Sooooo many of my stressors and things that disable me I would get strong aid for?
And it's just.
I am wondering if i am insane if i believe it is real, and could be something for me. and I kinda just want to cry.
I don't even know what to do.
I do really like and love my current life here....
but i am just thinking about all the good that could be to live there?
how i could actually live such a fucking easier and fulfilling life where I don't have to work so hard to deal W my disabilities and not have to basically pay nearly all of my high aid needs myself, and burn myself out so repeatedly just by existing and living W this and trying to take care of myself and.... Then instead there having so much help for my disabilities - some i had not even imagined? atl not in this current sociopolitical climate?
and it's just.
how could I uproot myself to go there?
here's where I have my roots.
i do want to try, but it's so scary.
i am scared to even research it haha... i do want this, genuinely, now, but I. I don't know...

Week 5 - Sasaeng: The Scary Kpop Superfans
In today’s day and age it’s rare to find someone who isn’t a part of some fandom. Be it in the world of gaming, music, pop culture, you name it; there’s a fandom for it. I'm even a part of a few fandoms out there, with the most recent being Physical:100 after binging watching the latest season on Netflix. Since diving headfirst into the second season I've since watched both seasons in a matter of days for uh, research purposes...and I can say I'm definitely a fan
This comes as no surprise given how important and integral digital communities are in the online world. Being a part of a digital community, or in this case fandom, opens the viewer up to a world of support and like-minded people without traditional barriers such as location or language differences interfering. Fandoms also allow viewers to form connections with each other by fostering a sense of belonging. (Monk, 2023) After all, nobody likes to feel excluded.
That being said, we’re not here today to talk about the good side of fandoms, no that'd be boring. Instead, I’d like to introduce all of you reading to a small subsection of Kpop fans that blur the lines between fan and foe. They’re called Sasaengs.
Sasaengs, or sasaeng fans as they are sometimes called, are obsessive fans who engage in obsessive and borderline criminal behaviours specifically towards Korean idols and celebrities. The name itself comes from the Korean words “sa” meaning private and “saeng” meaning life, with sasaengs main goal being to get recognized by their idols by any means necessary. (Tamondong, 2021)
Given the fact that the world has gone digital nowadays it’s become increasingly easy for sasaengs to gain private and personal information about their Kpop idols and invade their privacy to the max. This leads to sasaengs going to extraordinary lengths such as stealing or breaking into the homes of their idols. (Valle, 2023) There’s even such a thing known as “sasaeng taxis”, a method used by sasaengs to follow their beloved idols to their scheduled activities or personal commitments. These taxis are not cheap either, charging upwards of $600 a day and have no qualms breaking a barrage of traffic rules if it means the sasaeng gets to follow their idol around and make themselves known to their idol. (Mathew, 2021)
Before we go any further let me make one thing clear; I’m not a Kpop fan. For the longest time I’d never even heard of sasaengs let alone the downright insane incidents they’ve caused over the years as I’ve come to find out while researching for this blog. So here’s a list of the 5 craziest ones I’ve found:
Number 1: Persistent Stalking
As of 2019 a German fan by the Twitter handle @Josh1994 has been consistently stalking and harassing Nayeon, who is a member of the girl group Twice. Despite her management taking action to protect Nayeon from her stalker, in 2020 the fan has remained persistent in his stalkerish behaviours. (Chung, 2021)
Number 2: Airport Grabs and Street Chases
BTS is one of the most famous Kpop groups around, and while this has given the group a plethora of success it has also resulted in some significant drawbacks. In 2016 whilst filming in Sweden the group stopped to dine at a local cafe only to get chased by fans whilst leaving, while just a year earlier the group was mobbed by fans at an airport. (Koreaboo, 2021)
Number 3: Attaching Tracking Devices to Vehicles
In 2021 Kpop group ATEEZ discovered illegal tracking devices attached to the group’s business vehicles leading to the group’s record label launching a blacklist system to keep track of fans found guilty in these sasaeng incidents. (Bowenbank, 2021)
Number 4: Secret Recordings, Crossdressing Fans and Attempted Kidnapping
Members of EXO, another popular Korean boyband, just can’t seem to catch a break. From installing cameras and microphones in a hotel gym and some of the members rooms, to sasaengs shaving their heads and crossdressing as boys to share the same bathroom with the group, it makes you wonder what these sasaengs could do if they used their talents for good. And then there’s the attempted kidnapping case where sasaeng fans rented a van identical to the group’s business vehicles which was thankfully thwarted by the group’s manager. (Koreaboo, 2018)
Number 5: A Letter Written in Menstrual Blood
Yeah this ain’t it chief. I almost didn’t want to put this one in but if I had to read it so do you. Because I’m merciful though, I’ll keep it short for all of our sakes. In 2009 boyband member Taecyeon of 2PM received a letter written in a fan's menstrual blood and sprinkled with their pubic hair. To make it worse, the sasaeng later posted proof of it online. (Rameninmybowl, 2009) Yeah I’m gonna go take a shower now…
In conclusion, while absolutely insane this level of obsessive fan behaviour is not a new phenomenon. Singers John Lennon and Selina were both respectively murdered by disgruntled fans, while in more recent years artists like Ava Max and Bebe Rexha have been hit by fans throwing items on stage during their concerts. In all honesty, they deserve better.
Whilst it is true that a good majority of fans are like you and I, it’s fans like these who give fandoms a bad name. It's more important than ever that we remember that these people we call ourselves fans of are human too and deserve our respect.
