Took the 540 out for runs this morning. Since it was a prop strike inspection and we didn’t have to replace any piston rings or cylinder components, I didn’t have to do a full break in run, which is 90 minutes at varying power intervals. This run up was more focused on getting her up to temperature and making sure she made full power with no leaks, so I got away with less than an hour on the stand. Post run checks were positive with no abnormal metal contamination or other indications of issues. Another successful build, and she’s off to her owner in the next couple days.

The Beast RR, 1972. In the Wild Cards section of the London Concours 2024, the legendary Rolls Royce Merlin-engined shooting brake. The 27 litre V12 aircraft engine had the Beast listed for a time as the world's most powerful car by Guinness. Note that it uses Mk 1 Ford Capri tail lights. Rolls-Royce won a legal battle to have their grill and mascot removed from the car though at the London Concours they were in place

Watched an old movie (no idea of the name - it was one of many we watched) this Christmas where a bunch of fresh faced WWII soldier boys put up pinups in their bunks, but they couldn't put ACTUAL pinups of sexy ladies in this old ass movie, so it was like, half Uncle Sam propaganda and half middle aged "leaders of industry" men on the posters.
And now I can't get out of my head the idea of Danny as a young soldier, putting up pinups of Vlad - both sexy poses AND "Make Vlad Masters proud of you, Soldier" type propaganda.

just realized why the Basho arms are asymmetrical. the left arm has two gigantic fuckoff pistons running from the back of the shoulder to the elbow, which fits with them having the highest melee damage modifier out of all arms since melee only goes on the left arm.
i never noticed because it's usually covered by a shoulder weapon, but that's such a neat detail kinda like the chainsaw having exhaust backfire when used, or the Shade Eye head's antennae folding down when its visor deploys.

From dry fit for bearing measurements yesterday to fully closed and assembled today. I’m switching tracks this week from TCM engines back to a IO-540 Lycoming that had a prop strike. The work involved in the inspection and repair following a prop strike is usually as much as an overhaul. Everything must still be disassembled, inspected, and major components sent for NDT. The list of parts required might not be as long, depending on the situation, because the mandatory parts replacement of an overhaul isn’t normally applicable. Sometimes the damage is significant enough to warrant an overhaul for the sake of costs, but luckily for this customer that wasn’t the case.
