been trying to practice drawing aang in a more realistic style lately! I’ve loved seeing how so many artists have started incorporating Raava’s design into the Air Nomad tattoos too - I tried my best lol

Zuko reacts to dating an Airbender Reader
Tumblr media
Background you grew up in the earth kingdom with a family of air benders and earth benders. Your great grand father fled somewhere safe in the earth kingdom where he settled down and started a family with your great grandma.
You met Aang and the gang while they were in Ba Sing Se and had been in the Jasmine Dragon where Zuko and Iroh worked a few times.
After you join the gang and the Solar Eclipse, you met Zuko again in the Western Air Temple. You two recognized each other.
Y/N: "Lee?"
Zuko: "Um my real name is Zuko."
You were confused then after learning about the gang's side of the story you maintain caution and kinda...stay out of it.
After he join you two started talking, it was awkward cause your interactions with him was positive though nothing special.
Zuko would be shock to find out you're an airbender, you explain about your great grandfather was on his way to one of the air temples when he heard of Sozin attacking. So he fled to the deepest part of the Earth Kingdom and hide his identity as a nomad.
Zuko didn't blame him one bit. He is honestly glad you hid yourself cause he would've mistaken you as the Avatar if he known if there was survivors in the Earth Kingdom.
Zuko starts to develop a crush on you when you got your own little trip with him.
You were there when he faced Azula in the war, you and Katara had to team up to stop her after she shot Zuko.
You two started dating after the war is over. It started when you got your airbending arrow tattoos becoming an Air Nomad. Though you guys kept it a secret till many years later you two tie the knot.
Dates include trips to Emerald Island, chilling near the duck pond, flying together on your own bison and his dragon. (Thank Avatar WOTW for the date night with Jake and Neytiri.)

thoughts on the atla live action trailer:
looks like we're definitely getting more of the air nomad genocide. i'm hoping this means more flashbacks and development of the air nomads in general, but it definitely sets the tone for the series if this is what they're starting out with
azula shooting an arrow?? she doesn't seem to be wearing eyeliner and lipstick like in the promo shots, so i'm guessing it's a younger azula. i'm interested to see where this is going
aang crashing into the rock like in the opening credits <3 i'm glad they seem to be keeping some of the silliness and humour of the original
the actors for the main four are crushing it so far, but gordon cormier as aang is absolutely the standout for me. the scene where he has tears in his eyes while talking about how he can't save the world... that's my son, that's my boy etc
katara and aang laughing at sokka, aang running to hug the water tribe sibs!! they got the dynamic DOWN
i know there's like 2 seconds of the blue spirit and aang working together but. i'm obsessed
"i'm the avatar and i'm going to save the world... with my friends" tears. full tears
bumi! jun! jet! slightly disappointed we didn't get a cabbage man appearance yet but they're probably saving that for the show. the minor characters all look stellar so far
katara and zuko's fight at the north pole do you hear me screaming
i really like the way aang's tattoos light up when he enters the avatar state
the bending looks surprisingly good so far. i love how fluid the water and firebending in particular seem. could this be the redemption we deserve for [gestures at movie that doesn't exist]?
the settings look amazing. omashu especially is beautiful
i'm more curious than ever what it was about the show that bryke had to walk away from because of "creative differences". everything we've seen so far seems really promising and true to the original.
still keeping my expectations low because trailers can be misleading but i'm cautiously hopeful <3

dating avatar aang would include
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
• aang is a compassionate and empathetic partner, always ready to listen and support you through any challenges.
• the more comfortable he gets with the idea of being in a relationship, the better boyfriend he becomes.
• aang's playful nature means there would be lots of laughter, pranks, and fun activities. expect spontaneous games of airball and snowball fights.
• his connection to nature would inspire you to appreciate and respect the environment, and he’d often take you to serene natural spots for picnics or meditation.
• aang’s romantic gestures would be thoughtful and often tied to the four elements, like creating a small gust of wind to play with your hair or bending water to make beautiful ice sculptures.
• he absolutely LOVES sharing air nomad culture with you, and though some parts of it aren’t exactly for you, you still respect and appreciate the traditions nonetheless.
• always holding hands or touching each other in some way because he likes the physicality of it and finds it comforting.
• you’re always able to calm him down when he’s upset and vice versa. especially when he’s in the avatar state.
• he LOVES taking you on exciting dates, like gliding through the skies on his glider or exploring ancient air nomad temples. he loves sharing his love for adventure and discovery with you.
• aang takes his role as the avatar seriously (after some serious maturing) and would appreciate your understanding and support. he involves you in his duties when appropriate, valuing your input and perspective.
• if you were interested, aang would introduce you to meditation and the spiritual side of the avatar. he'd teach you about chakras, the spirit world, and the importance of balance in life.
• he loves cooking for you and teaching you how to make his favorite vegetarian dishes.
• when you’re bored, he lets you doodle inside of his tattoos. sometimes, you just like to trace them.
• he’s CONSTANTLY doing random stuff to try and impress you.
• aang is incredibly protective of you but in a gentle and understanding way. he’s always there to support you and ensure your safety without being overbearing.
• you’re both always trying to help each other improve on your bending (if you’re a bender), practicing and sparing together.
• though, it takes a lot of time for you to convince him that he doesn’t have to go easy on you. he about worries a lot.
• the two of you have SOO many inside jokes.
• he loves to dance with you. he would definitely teach you some traditional air nomad dances.
• he would do anything to protect you and keep you safe. <33

Cultural Practice: Movie Aang’s Tattoos
Tumblr media
Judging by some of the fanart I’ve seen, Aang’s elaborate Air Nomad tattoos are probably the only aspect of The Last Airbender movie that was positively received by the fandom.
The design of these tattoos were inspired by yantra tattoos from Southeast Asia. Yantra (यन्त्र) are sacred geometric designs utilized in many Indian religions. In Southeast Asia, yantra designs are paired with lines of Buddhist psalms, as the markings are believed to grant protection and good fortune to the recipient. These tattoos are traditionally done by monks with metal needles.
As a design concept, I think the decision to give Aang yantra-like tattoos was a clever touch. It’s a subtle way of telling the audience that the Air Nomads are similar to Buddhist monks. However, I must say that I’m not a big fan of the back tattoo. The design at the center of it looks more like a European alchemical sigil than a yantra and the cross imagery feels very out of place. But I will admit that the overall design still looks pretty cool.
If you’re interested in learning more about Yantra tattoos, known as Sak Yant (สักยันต์) in Thai, click here. If you ever wanted to write a scene or draw a comic detailing the process and cultural beliefs behind Air Nomad tattooing, Sak Yant tradition would be a good source of inspiration.
Like what I’m doing? Tips always appreciated, never expected. ^_^

Airbender Kyoshi content for the soul:
Kyoshi: *has her hair up in a bun so the airbending tattoo on the back of her neck is visible*
Rangi: *blatantly staring at that exact spot*
Hei-Ran, silently appearing behind Rangi: you have to be violating some kind of sacred rule by checking out a nun
Rangi: *shrieks out of fear*
Hei-Ran, rolling her eyes: relax, it’s only me
Rangi, blushing brightly: I was not checking her out! I just wanted to make sure the oaf didn’t hurt herself!
Hei-Ran: I can actually see your pupils form hearts whenever you look at her
Rangi, scowling: can you just let me live my life?
Hei-Ran: what, the life of you ogling an innocent airbender girl and being painfully obvious about it?
Rangi: yes that is the life I am referring to
Hei-Ran: fine, so be it. I suppose it couldn’t hurt having an Air Nomad in the family
Rangi: why are you like this-

"You were just not meant to be an Airbender, Bumi. . ."
ART BY @yikes-kachowski
Tumblr media
This drawing has me in a choak-hold, Istg, the artstyle, the emotion in Bumi's face, the way he painted the Air Nomad tattoo ink onto his skin to feel less of a failure.
I feel Bumi would see himself as a failure and try to make up for that in other ways. He just feels he'll never compare to anyone, especially Kya and Tenzin since Katara focuses on teaching his sister waterbending and Aang focuses and teaching his brother Airbending.
He feels he doesn't amount to much and isn't as loved as his other siblings - pushed aside and left to his own thing.
I always thought Bumi would go through a Rebellious phase where he would run off and hang around the wrong people, being well aware their not the right people for him to be around but they make him feel accepted and worth something.
Or in another case he spends all his day training for the United Nations, thinking unless he pushes himself past his limits he'll never get anywhere, wearing himself out to the point he's physically and emotional tired.
Just imagine a young Bumi, after spending hours of training in different fields, trying with his fists and swords or other combat weapons and his fists being bruised and bloody - sitting alone in his room as he contemplates his next session and what he can do to improve.
Then, in walks Kya. She's staring at how beaten up he looked. Bumi looked up at her, his knee bouncing as he just exchanged a silent look with her, a cut on his cheek from his sword fighting practice. He looks tired. He sniffed, wiping some blood from his nose as he now avoids her eyes.
Tenzin comes to find his elder siblings for dinner, raising his brow at Kye before looking into Bumi's room himself.
Bumi refuses to look up at them, feeling their stare, the same stare his parents gave him when he was younger and covered himself in the light blue ink, tears falling down his face.
"You were just not meant to be an Airbender, Bumi."
Aang said softly, kneeling down and putting his hand in Bumi's shoulder before glancing back at Katara, frowning at his wife.
"How about you wash up for dinner, sweetie?" Katara suggested, standing at the door, holding Tenzin in her arms.
Bumi didn't answer and looked down, clenching his fists as he looked at him. Bumi feels his fathers hand move away and shuts his eyes tightly as Aang leaves the room and then looked up at the mirror as the door shut, blue ink falling down his forehead as he sniffled and hiccuped.
Bumi looked up at them, narrowing his eyes and his brow before getting up, storming towards the door and slamming it in his siblings face.
He grits his teeth before sliding down against the door, pulling his knees to his chest and sobbing.
