Between one stroke and the next, Xaden suddenly wasn't alone out here between he waves anymore. His eyes flickered back to where his friends were laughing at the beach, Garrick and Imogen preparing the bonfire while Liam brought the snacks from the truck.

"I know you."

Xaden's head whirled around, back to the woman who'd appeared right in front of him. She hadn’t been here just a moment ago. There hadn't been anyone out here, he was sure of that.

Treading water, he took a few heavy gulps of air.  "You do?" He certainly didn't know her. He would have remembered a pretty face like hers. Although, that was the wrong word. Stunningly beautiful was more like it. Petite yet unyielding in a way he'd never seen before. The most delicate features beneath skin so pale it almost seemed translucent. Dark hair, nearly black in the water, yet the tips of her free-flowing strands were silver. Like floating blades. And her eyes...

"I've seen you before." She tilted her head, almost a nod towards the beach. 

Her eyes were magnificent. Blue like the ocean in one moment, a warm inviting brown in the next. Mesmerising. 

"Yeah," he replied lamely, barely able to form a coherent thought. "Me and my friends come here often."

They were a little too big, her eyes. Almost eerily so. 

She cocked her head, a nod. Silence.

She hadn't blinked even once. Despite the salty sea water.

"I, erm..." Xaden tried to come up with something to say.

He should leave. Something was telling him that he should leave, swim back to the shore as fast as he could. Back to his friends. To safety. 

"Are you from here?" He was a fool for staying, for talking to this woman. If that was even what she was. And yet he knew that he wouldn't go anywhere as long as she was here.

"Yes?" came her reply, almost like a question. "I live here." 

Somehow, Xaden didn't think she was talking about one of the fisher huts further down the peninsula.

"And, ah... What are you doing here?"

Something was moving in the water beneath him. He didn't dare look down but he knew it was there. Like hundreds of fish churning up the water. Or maybe, it was something else.

The woman moved closer, though not with any swimming motions he could detect, her arms hanging loosely beneath the surface.

"I came for you," she said simply, her eyes keeping him hostage. "Waited for you."

Xaden gulped. "For me? What for?"

There was definitely something moving in the water beneath him. Something long and solid and strong. Something that had just brushed against his leg.

The woman smiled, showing a row of shiny pointed teeth. "To play."

It happened faster than Xaden could react. In one moment, he was treading water and in the next, long somethings wrapped around his legs, keeping them from moving while at the same time keeping his face above the surface.

"Wh-what--?" Xaden exclaimed, but he didn't get the chance to say any more. 

In the blink of an eye the woman was right in front of him, her face just inches away from his. 

"Hush!" Webbed fingers pressed against his lips. "I won't hurt you."

Xaden’s eyes grew wide, his mind refusing to comprehend who--what she was.

For a long moment, she just stared at him through her ever-changing eyes, too big to be human, never blinking.

Waiting. 

For his answer? 

Xaden nodded. What else could he do? Even if she hadn’t been holding him captive... He knew, deep down, that he'd never deny her anything, not in this life or any other.

Her answering smile was dazzling. 

She came closer still and only now did Xaden register that she wasn’t wearing anything. Of course, she wasn't. She wasn't even human. But it took her pressing her soft breasts against his chest to fully grasp it, for his hands to land on her waist and feel nothing but skin for his mind to catch up with what his body already knew. 

"You're mine." She pressed her lips to his in a harsh kiss, and Xaden would have hissed at the sting of her sharp teeth had the movement beneath the ocean's surface not intensified.

"Find me again, in this life or another. I'll wait for you, always."

"Hey, man! Are you okay?" A strong hand landed on Xaden’s shoulder, and it cost him more effort than he was willing to admit to turn his head, to tear his eyes away from the water and towards Liam instead. "Looked like you disappeared between the waves, or something."

Slowly, Xaden nodded. "Yeah, I'm okay," he said, lamely. His eyes roamed back towards the ocean, his mind still trying to comprehend. Did that really happen?

"Good. Because you really worried us there for a sec." Liam laughed, then cocked his head, frowning. "But what's that? Did you hurt yourself?" He pointed at Xaden’s chest where, right above his heart, a strange mark was showing, almost like a burn. 

"Ah, that." He shook his head. "No, it’s fine."

Liam gave him another long look, then shrugged and jogged back to where the others were waiting. 

Slowly, Xaden rose back onto his feet, his knees still weak and his eyes glued to the churning waves.

"I'll find you. I promise," he whispered into the wind, absentmindedly rubbing over that mark on his chest. The place where her lips had been, sucking and licking. 

The mark had the shape of a violet.

Statements like: ‘None of the Lost Boys like Star’ lack a firm basis in canon. Talking just movie canon here rather than novels, scripts, etc. which actually add a bit more nuance to the whole thing.

Star's place in the story is as Michael's comphet love interest and as window dressing, because all movies must include a hot chick(tm). She has very little agency or role in the plot other than to lure Michael into the vampires' world. The story could have easily worked without her with only a few minor changes.

But that's typical of the film industry doing lady characters the dirty. We all know this. And we all know that characters of her type are widely disliked across Fandom as a whole for a bunch of reasons, one of which is probably that those of us who identify as women became sick to death of being portrayed as objects without agency because it can hit too close to home. Let's not flog that dead horse anymore.

Back to her relationship with the boys: they don't share enough screen time for us to definitively say they feel any particular way about her. Aside from Paul briefly saying "Ah, chill out girl" when she tells them off for hazing Michael, the only one who interacts with her at all is David. And that is very limited too: after the two scenes where she gets on the back of his bike, he basically pays her no attention for the rest of the movie. Though it is implied that they have some conversations off screen (about making Michael her first kill, etc.) that we don't see .

The boys' focus moves to Michael, and on male-male bonding. (I am very straight-faced while typing this.) Star fades away into the shadows during Michael's initiation not only because she was unable to stop him from making her mistake, but because her presence is unwelcome. It would be like someone's girlfriend going along to a wild bachelor party: probably doesn't happen that often and likely to be uncomfortable as hell. It's a boys' night. She'd cramp their style.

Whatever the writers' intentions may have been, any attempt at creating a rivalry between David and Michael for Star's affection falls flat on its face because David simply does not care to play that role. He does not seem to give a damn that Michael is obviously lusting after her, and shows no signs of being bothered about them sleeping together. In my view the scene where he makes Star get on the back of his bike instead of Michael's has very little to do with Star - that triumphant smirk makes it clear he's trying to get a rise out of Michael.

From the little interaction David does have with Star, I get the impression that their relationship is one of ownership. He views her as belonging to him, but obviously he has no problem sharing her if it means he gets what he wants - Michael joining them. For her part she comes across as being a little afraid of him, which is understandable considering the boys are literally horror movie monsters who brutally murder people. (Contain yourselves you monsterfuckers, yes I know, we all love them because of, rather than in spite of this.) But the way she laughs while riding on the back of his bike, the sheer joy in her eyes, it makes me think that's not all there is to it. There is happiness in her time with them as well.

This was my most prolific year of fic writing! For reference, my total number of fics posted EVER is 53. I wrote a lot of short fics as treats for two different extreme timed challenge exchanges. I also got into several new fandoms this year.

There's the exchange fics coming in clutch! And also the bushel of smutshots (oneshots that are pwp) that I wrote for new fandoms I got into and got very excited about writing smut for.

Number of Multichapters (Including WIPs): 14

Some oneshots become twoshots. Some multichapters had planned chapter counts and many did not.

Number of WIPs (aka unfinished works): 4

Of these, one is the most recent fic I have posted, which is being actively written and updated. One is being co-written with someone else. And the others are one hiatus.

My total number of inspired works ever is 2. Fortunately or unfortunately, I have plenty of ideas to work with on my own.

Longest Fic: Stealing Candelabras (10,797).

Most of my works this year were under 10k, and a lot of them were even under 1k. I started the year short and ended it long. And I anticipate writing much more longfic this year. This one was long because I love vampires and making up vampire lore.

Shortest Fic: shifting eyes and vacancy, vanished when i saw your face (476). A very cute prompt that I had to fill. Title courtesy of my partner's suggestion, since they love the song so much :)

Most Kudosed fic: On the Twelfth Day of Christmas My Twin Sons Gave to Me: The Child Spy of My Enemy (586).

The second most kudosed is The Care and Keeping of Your Vash (406). I love you trigun fandom <3

Most Viewed Fic: Same as most kudosed! But those stats do build up over time so I'm gonna highlight my fifth most view fic that was only posted a couple months ago as opposed to almost a year ago: When I'm On the Throne it's a Total Freak Zone (3,366). My second foray into exploring a character being a soft dom.

Most Subscribed Fic: Same as the most kudosed and most viewed. To be fair it had the format of the twelve day countdown to Christmas, so it hooked people into sticking around.

Most Bookmarked Fic: Same one again. My second most bookmarked was Shot Through the Heart, and You're to Blame (110). Arguably my best trigun fic, I love writing monsterfucker porn, especially as part of a larger canon divergent au. Double points for also getting to write a trans headcanon.

Most Used Fandom: Dream SMP, at 13. But if you combine all the fics for books by the same author (MXTX), it comes out to 12, which is pretty close!

Least Used Fandom: There's a couple I've only written one work for so...

1. Big Dragon the Series. This is a tiny fandom for a BL drama that I am co-writing a fic for. If you go searching for this show MIND THE WARNINGS. It is very intense from episode one so proceed with caution.

2. SMP Earth. I wish I got into this fandom when it was more popular, Now I don't know where to find the stream archives to get into the lore :(

3. Supernatural. I came back to this fandom this year only to post a trans character study of Dean and then leave it again lol.

Most Used Rating: E, 15 fics.

Like I said, I wrote a lot of smutshots lol. Second place is Teen, at 11 fics.

Least Used Rating: Mature, 0. Alternatively, Gen, at 9.

None of my fics are rated Mature this year because I discovered the wonders of smut and I can no longer do things by halves.

Most Written Relationship: Still SBI, but Quackbur is a close second.

Most Used Additional tag: I can't be bothered to look through all of this year's fics right now, but for the E rated ones I'm 90% sure it's Biting. As I've been quoted saying "biting is sexy!"

Most Frequently Used Characters: Again, SBI wins out. Though I think of all of them I have more fics with Techno than the others. (Again, too lazy to look through 40 fics right now lol).

(Kink talk and how it relates to fandom age! If anyone wants to chat about this I am so down, message me!)

So the 911 fandom seems to be pretty young, and new to fandom in a lot of ways - and we see that in the variations of fic found, the amount of crossovers, the kink fics and the variety of ships - I think there’s like 3 authors currently writing watersports (piss kink) and I’m not sure how many if any who (currently) write harder kinks like CNC (consensual non consent). We’re seeing a little boom of rarepairs now which is exciting! Obvs none of this is a judgement just as an observation.

So the things I typically say are a harder kink are probably quite a lot harder to some in the 911 fandom than an older fandom (older in fans and older as in has been around longer). I’m not an expert by any means and I’d say I know a little bit about a lot of things, rather than a lot about certain things.

I will just say that we’re playing with dolls here, and going by the fandom response to canon gay/bi men talking superficially about sex - not great - that writing darker fic in this fandom probably isn’t appealing to a lot of writers.

BUT I for one would love to see it. Let’s get some Hannibal au’s in here, there’s a murder!buddie au I think that sounds exciting - a lot of kink and themes in fanfic writing is hinged on the world you put it in, so a fantasy world is ripe for monsterfucking and curses etc and a real life setting in canon encourages real life fic generally - this with the younger fandom who may actually be in their first fandom kinda limits the bounds in which fanon operates. As fandom grows we see other influences join the fanfic space, other fanon tropes are explored etc. The “peer review” aspect of fandom also becomes IMO better, in that we get more minority peers who we (hopefully and thoughtfully, come on 911 fandom we got this) learn from. Racism is a long time issue in fandom that we gotta be aware of, yes we’re playing with dolls BUT we don’t wanna hurt the people we are playing dolls with, right? The dolls aren’t real but we are.

Levi also likes to see what kind of fanfiction trope he is and who he’d be in a fanfiction. He always hopes for main character or love interest but he usually ends up getting “bitch who gets sidelined” or “mischaracterized baby”.

When he makes quizzes, he makes them as imbalanced as possible, and as a result, none of his quizzes get very popular.

Similar to Mammon, Asmo first got huffy that MC wasn’t paying attention to him, but on the other hand, they were keeping still while he painted their nails, so that was the only plus.

MC is honour bound to listen to him ramble! Why weren’t they chiming in with the occasional “uh huh” and “yes dear”?! This was an outrage! A scandal!

Oh, MC was doing a quiz on what kind of fruit they are? Ooo fun! Let him see!

Nail painting night gets out on hold while Asmo scrolls through assorted quizzes. He likes the dirty joke ones a lot (I mean, obviously) and he also loves the ones where they assign the quiz-taker a scent or perfume.

He’s always looking for inspiration for scents to try out~! This is great!

Beel and MC were in the middle of talking about food, (surprise surprise) and Beel ended up asking about human world fast food chains.

“So, what one do you think I’d like?” “Here! Take this quiz and find out!”

Beel is a little confused at the contents of some of the question and quietly worries that if he hasn’t listened to the songs for the song lyric questions that his answer will somehow be corrupted, but he finishes the quiz quickly.

Why you should read it: OKAY JUST WAIT. I know i literally just picked one of Jenn's stories for yesterday and I have been sweating over this decision all goddamn day but I Have Reasons.

I personally begged shamelessly for it, and for more Tim/Kol. She gave me both. So like, I am very personally attached to this fic to start, but then she wrote it and it was even better.

Caroline as Holmes is incredible. She is smart ofc, and snarky, and still manages to sound like herself despite it being 1888. I absolutely believe this boss ass bitch with a smooshy heart is the world's best detective. Kol as Watson is delightful. He has gleefully taken over the opium use portion of the pair, along with lounging around on furniture and hitting on pretty boys. Enzo and Tim O'Sullivan round out the Baker's Street Irregulars with research, disguises (more cross dressing), and cheerfully trying to murder anyone that breathes on Caroline. More on that later.

Klaus as Moriarty is a balm to my soul. He is criminal mastermind nutjob, a psychopath, ruthless as hell, and generally as terrible at family dinners as ever. Literally no one is more impressed with themselves than Klaus and he genuinely believes you should be too, or else. During their disastrous first meeting, Caroline puts his balls in a vice and he's like "Is this flirting?" and then proceeds to send her coded love messages while trying to murder her. Kol being Klaus' brother and her best friend only adds to the spice of their clashes and he is always, always on her side, often with knives.

Okay so, about that breathing on Caroline thing. When Klaus falls in love, as he inevitably does, it is intense, and weird, and prone to stalking. Manipulating himself into Caroline's life and investigations is just the start, and boy howdy does he end up with guns in his face for that. Enzo is absolutely not amused at this schmuck rat bastard sniffing around Caroline's skirts. But there may also be only one bed on a stakeout.

As always, please give the Tim/Kol subplot a try since my Intense Gay Yearning whined so pathetically for it. They are happy queer murder lads just out for a gay ol' time and absolutely will kneecap a motherfucker for kicks! Rebekah's several dead (possibly poisoned) husbands are absolutely not having a good time, but Katherine, the madame she's enjoying her nights with, certainly is. Elijah would just like his family to chill tf out for like two seconds and maybe sit for tea.

There's also like, the whole entire fucking Jack the Ripper murder mystery plot supported with accurate newspaper clippings and police reports bc Jenn just balls that hard for authenticity. It's great, and creepy, and as always there are pickled organs and graphic descriptions of entrails!

Anyways this entire cast could (and would) murder me and I'd be grateful for the experience. You have not enjoyed a Holmes!AU until you've read this one and Caroline has dragged you around London along with her homicidal posse of lovestruck idiots. Please read this fic.

It was a 'safe' design, imo. They didn't want to make her 'unattractive' as you said, or unrecognizable as Nadia, I think. While Julian has that nose of his and is constantly used with imagery of a raven, his design was easier to recognize as 'ah yes, that Is a Julian', with the exaggeration of his nose and longer figure. (it looks like his arms and torso are longer to me, idk.)

Another factor: its easier to make a male character look unnatural and crazy than a female, because it's easier for fans to subconsciously accept it--again, coming back to societal beauty standards and such, but maybe I'm reading too far into it. (For example, look at the reaction Julian stans have had to his demon form. If Nadia's form was as modified and twisted, would Nadia stans have had the same reaction? I think it's unlikely. I would, personally, because I'm a nasty monsterfucker but that's neither here nor there atm

After all the drama that has occurred with the developers and the fandom itself, the last thing they would want to do was upset us yet again-- and the fact that she isn't white is probably another factor, but as I am a white person I don't feel informed enough to speak on that aspect of it at the moment.

(It's easier to entirely shift and morph Julian, who is a white man, into something more unnatural and monstrous without recieveing too much of a blow back. It's just facts.)

That being said, I do wish they went with a more creative design for her. I would have liked to have seen a more elongated face, some sharper teeth, more fur on the shoulders, neck and arms, and overall just and more frightening and monstrous appearance, especially since Nadia's Major Arcana representation is/was the high preistess and she merged with such a different aspect than the one that resonated with her. They could have gone a different route entirely by giving her a mash up of the Devil and the High Priestess. Now that is something that I would be excited and interested to see. (I might draw it myself, if inspiration strikes.)

But I don't want to ramble any more than I have, lol. I really enjoy character design and speculation, so I just wanted to add my thoughts. If I missed something, feel free to add on!

Unpopular Opinion: Demon Nadia is lazy design. While I do love how she looks, I don't agree with it. You can't just slap a pair of horns, hooves and claws and call it a day. Where is the fur? The goat ears? Her face and most of her body look human. She looks like the fantasy of a female looking Devil and that's not wrong!!! but it doesn't follow the patterns of demons in the game. Compare her looks to Demon- Valerius, Volta, Vlastomil, Julian and Lucio. They all look animalistic ..Thoughts?

I mean yeah, no doubt, Nadia looks hot as the Devil, but comparing it to any of the other Arcana or demons it’s different. A big part of that has to be to keep her looking attractive by general standards, which is to pander to the biggest possible audience of course, but yes, leaves her design looking different than what you would expect of the Arcana. 

There is a lot more to say about her design and how it compares to Julian’s and the others and what it says about keeping her attractive and sexy, but I don’t feel qualified to talk about that, so I’ll leave that up to others.
