"how could you be so reckless!?"

nia sighed annoyed, as she carefully tended your wounds. you had gotten into yet another fight with moebius. nia knew that you only did it to protect her, but if it was at the cost of you getting hurt, then she didn't want this! 

"you can't just take on two moebius at once, especially not N and M! have i not told you time and time again how dangerous they are? but no, of course you had to rush head first into a fight and get your ass kicked… you know, i shouldn't even be healing you right now, after that stunt you pulled! maybe that would teach you a lesson…"

nia kept rambling and despite threatening to leave your wounds the way they were, she kept healing you. just because she was upset with you didn't mean she'd let you get hurt. 

"look at that, you've gotten hurt at the same spot you did last time. if you keep this up, you'll mess up your arm so much that even i can't help you anymore. and you won't be able to protect anyone with an injury like that. then i'll have to be the one taking care of you…"

nia's eyes never once left your wounds, making sure she healed them properly. meanwhile your eyes were glued to her, admiring the queen of agnus and how cute she looked while she got angry with you. 

"really, y/n, you gotta stop being so reckless. i don't want you to get hurt everytime you leave the castle. and i don't want to worry about you whenever you leave, wondering if you're even coming back to me this time… it's hard for me to see you leave every time. i don't want to lose you, you idiot. but everytime you leave, i feel like i do! it breaks my heart to see you like this…"

suddenly, nia felt tears roll down her cheeks, ones that she hadn't even noticed had filled up her eyes. you carefully wiped them away and  caressed her cheek, making nia look at you. 

"i'm sorry. i promise you, i'll be more careful. i didn't know you cared so much about me…"

nia's cheeks turned red in an instance and she quickly turned away, wiping the remaining tears away. 

"w-well, i… i wouldn't say i care that much or anything… just a normal amount of caring! nothing to be surprised about, y/n!"

you laughed as you watched your girlfriend getting flustered over how much she cared about you. despite nia trying to hide it, she loved you a lot and was just a big softie…

THE CUP OF HIS MURDERS IS FLOWING OVER AND IN HIS COAT SHALL BE MANY CURSES: Teagan Whites art is just incredible, and I love this work and another one from the same series called "Apparition" about prey animals taking revenge. The titles are modified quotes from The Prophecies of the Brahan Seer, but they are so fitting and eerie. It's such intricate and beautiful work, but the subject matter is so so dark and there is a post on instagram about refusing to depict nature healed, alive, as if nothing was wrong and it validates a lot of my existential angst but also makes me want to scream and learn more about nature and create things as beautiful as this. (light-through-the-leaves)

When Aziraphale gives Crowley the thermos full of holy water, it's like a leap of faith for the angel. Crowley basks in the newfound trust, but that's quickly taken away. Hurt, he sulks, and things get out of hand when Aziraphale won't pick up the phone. One thing leads to the next, and there's a very hurt demon being helped by a very worried, guilty angel.

Things turn out for the best, somehow.

So, I'm strongly of the opinion that the logical move for DMC6 is to be about Nero tracking down his mother. And given that during the development of both 4 and 5, the idea of giving Nero a sister named Angela was floated, it would make sense to use this plot to reveal that Nero has a long lost twin sister (having twins tends to run in families, after all).

Obviously, there are so many directions that plot could be taken, both good and bad. But the version that exists in my head goes something like this:

Nero's mother wasn't just a civilian, but directly affiliated with the Order of the Sword, some kind of role in their science division (maybe she had worked under Agnus at some point? I don't know if that timeline adds up).

She saw Vergil stroll into Fortuna, with his unnaturally white hair and complete lack of subtlety, and immediately clocked him as a demon. However, even she is shocked to learn he's the son of Sparda himself.

She helps Vergil find the information he's looking for (disclaimer, I haven't read Deadly Fortune), and learns what she can about him in the process.

Between her curiosity about demons, and Vergil being unused to this kind attention... They get what they want from each other, then go their separate ways.

However, soon after Vergil has left, she discovers that she's pregnant, and is absolutely ecstatic to have found such a unique research opportunity!

She gives birth to twins, and decides to conduct an experiment: She separated them, leaving one at the orphanage, and raising the other herself, somewhere far away from Fortuna.

What hypothesis is she testing? I don't really know. Perhaps some take on nature v.s. nurture? Or maybe she's experimenting on Angela in particular, and Nero's the control subject?

I also don't know exactly what kind of mother she would be to Angela. Her being a good and loving mother to her - or initially seeming to be, at least - would really sting for Nero. I don't think it has to be one or the other, though, she can truly care for both her children even while mistreating them.

I think in this hypothetical game, the antagonist would either be Nero's mother, Angela, or both of them working together.

The former would be a lot like Arius, Arkham, or Sanctus, a human seeking demonic power (though maybe she doesn't wish to become a demon quite like Arkham and Sanctus did).

The latter would either be like Vergil in DMC3, trying to open a portal to the demon world for her own reasons, or like Credo in DMC4, aiding her mother out of love and loyalty, ignorant - or just in denial - to the damage her scheme would cause.

Her being like Vergil would be interesting if nature v.s. nurture was a big theme of this story, but her being in a similar situation to Credo would put Nero through more angst.

Something I could also see happening is Nico's loyalty being a little bit split. Obviously, she's on Nero's side, but she too sees the scientific potential of demonic power, and could possibly feel conflicted if Nero's mother were warm enough to her, and maybe even swayed to her side if she was dishonest enough. Plus, I'm 100% sure she would fall head-over-heels for Angela.

"Thoroughgoing lesbian” is the last descriptor that comes to mind upon hearing Lily Tomlin’s name.

And that’s just the way she likes it.

In 2001, she let the cat out of the bag on “Gay USA,” a New York cable program.

Tomlin confirmed her longtime relationship with partner/playwright Jane Wagner.

Since then, Tomlin’s life hasn’t changed much.

“I was never closeted,” she explains in a recent phone interview. “All those years, it just never came up — like how they never wrote about Kennedy having women in the White House.”

She came out around the same time that Ellen DeGeneres handed the pride flag to Rosie O’Donnell.

But Tomlin wasn’t going to march down the path paved by overzealous neo-queers.

“After a while, it gets to be self-congratulatory to hold a press conference and make a big deal about something that’s been a matter of fact for a long time,” Tomlin says.

Ever since her early days on “Laugh-ln,” Tomlin has been an American treasure.

She’s a woman of 1,000 faces: the irrepressible 6-year-old Edith Ann, teenage punk performance artist Agnus Angst, Trudy the shopping bag lady and Ernestine, the “ringy dingy” telephone tyrant.

Her indelible characterizations, which Tomlin revives for a one-night show in Fort Worth on Saturday, have always lured a broad audience.

“I can remember doing a concert in Concord, Calif. Some middle-aged couple from Bakersfield — probably as square as a box — were in the audience and wrote me a backstage note. At the same time, I got a letter from The Fistfuckers of America,” Tomlin recalls. “Somehow I was lucky enough to create an auger plate where those people could exist together for an hour.”

Tomlin, 68, has always appreciated a good mix.

Even at a young age, she grasped the disparities and incredible similarities in her funky Detroit neighborhood.

“We had a couple of women who lived in the building. And how I would define them was that Rita wore men’s shoes, which was kind of unusual. I liked boy’s shoes myself. I'd go to the Red J. Goose shoe store where they would X-ray your foot," Tomlin explains.

X-rays at the shoe store?

After Tomlin scolds me for being too young to know, she describes the shoe-fitting X-ray j device, commonly used in the 1940s and ’50s.

“Do you at least know what wingtips are?” she asks. “Well, they had sweet little kids’ versions of wingtips. Anyway. I like all varieties of shoes. I'm not inclined to masculine shoes at all. I’m just saying that when Rita and Janet lived together, Rita loved men’s shoes. And I was just as friendly with them as I was with Mrs. Rupert, who wore fox furs to empty the garbage.”

Tomlin says an autobiography is out of the question.

What a shame.

“I’m a poor writer,” she says. “If Jane wanted to, fine. She’s a good writer.”

One almost imagines a volley of comedic spars at the Wagner and Tomlin household — unstoppable one-liners about stacking plates in the dishwasher or emptying the trash.

“No way,” Tomlin says. “It’s simply, ‘Go ahead and take the garbage out.’”

Did Tomlin ever dream about being a gushing bride?

“No! God, help me. I don’t want to get married,” she says. “It’s fine if everybody else wants to, but even if I was straight I wouldn’t get married.”

Revisiting Texas this weekend brings up a juicy memory.

Hoping to build a vacation home, Tomlin once bought some land along the Pedemales River near Lake Austin.

The Texas capital was where she met Ann Richards.

Remember when Richards was running for a second term and rumors began to circulate that the governor was a lesbian?

“She had four children and a bunch of grandchildren. She’s anything but gay. But because she’s a democratic person, a sophisticated and human person who has a lot of different kinds of friends, they were able to make that leap — Karl Rove or whoever did it,” Tomlin says.

“I’m sure they put stuff on windshields at church gatherings.”

So in Richards’ circle, Tomlin was a lesbian link?

“I could have been identified that way, yes. I’m not saying that to put on the front page of the Texas papers. That because of Lily’s suppression, repression, oppression — that I’m the cause of Richards not getting re-elected,” Tomlin says.

“I’m just saying that’s what goes on — at that time. Oh, it still goes on. What’s the difference? Look at the backlash to same-sex marriage. It polarized a whole contingency of voters that might not have voted, but they’re absolutely going to vote because of that one issue.”

Asked to peer into the future and guess whether 2005 is about unbridled optimism or ominous fear, Tomlin laughs.

“I was just chatting about the fact that they’re trying to broaden and expand the Patriot Act. I was talking to Jane this morning, and she said, ‘Be careful what you link to on the computer,”’ Tomlin says.

“I don’t know. I always hope for the best. And this too shall pass.”

you had been so young when you asked noah to be the one sending you off. you all planned to make it to homecoming, so that your lives could return to the queen. but even back then, you feared death. 

how could you not fear death? you'd cease to exist. everything that you were would vanish. there would be no afterlife, only this vast empty blackness, for all of eternity. like a deep slumber you could never escape from. and all that remained from you would be pitiful embers of light flying upon the sky. 

back then, noah had felt uncomfortable about your request, but nevertheless accepted it. you were a bit older than him, so he'd still be around after you. he'd be there to send you off. 

but when that moment truly came, it was worse than you had imagined. you weren't in colony 9 anymore, instead being runaways, hunted by both agnus and keves. and you had learned about moebius and the secret behind homecoming. it was like one last punch to the gut, to hear that there really was nothing after death. it was as you always feared. 

"the time has come…"

you said what noah knew already. your time was up. your weak legs barely even carried you a few feet before you collapsed, a worried noah quickly by your side. 

"i don't think i'll make it to that place. it's a shame… i would've loved to see the sunrise one more time…"

you remembered that place in maktha forest, where you had camped out a few months ago. you remembered that morning when the sun lightened up the entire area. taion had made tea for everyone that morning, sena and lanz were training and noah was practicing with his sword. it was such an ordinary morning, but it meant the world to you. and in your last moments, you couldn't help but think back on it. 

"d-don't say that… i'll carry you! we'll still make it! i know we can, if we just…"

noah desperately tried to help you up, to bring beauty to your last moments. but death was ugly. and you had accepted that. perhaps not fully, but you were too tired to fight anymore. 

"noah…"

your weak voice made the kevesi boy stop immediately. there were tears in his eyes, that he quickly wiped away. he didn't want you to see him crying. but it made you happy that he cried for you. you meant something to him. it's a shame you only realized it now that it was all over. 

"here is fine. send me off here…"

you forced a weak smile onto your lips. 

"are you sure…?"

you nodded. you weren't sure. you didn't want to die here. you didn't want to die. but in your last moments, you tried to give your friend some comfort. because your life, the little of it that you had left, didn't just belong to you. 

"alright…"

it was quiet. noah pulled out his flute. you could feel your body crumble. like it was slipping away from you. noah looked at you one last time, hesitating. he wanted to say something. but he didn't find the right words. his last words to you were "alright". nothing special. just words you'd hear every day. 

noah took a deep breath. then his lips rested on the flute, carefully blowing in air, as his fingers danced over the instrument, producing sounds that were both beautiful and sad. 

you held eye contact with him, as you could feel your body slip away from you. slowly, you began to feel numb. there was no pain. you should've been happy that it was so painless. but you felt just as empty as you always dreaded. you would've preferred pain over this emptiness. 

then, from one moment to another, there was nothing. like falling asleep and being trapped in a deep slumber. there was no comfort in death. the only good thing about death was that you'd never have to be scared about dying again…

Oh man these two levels on DMD can be pretty fucking brutal, mostly due to a lot of the fights taking place within tight spaces, especially inside cages!

They even have you fight a Blitz while inside a cage! Look at that!

The first boss, Agnus, is decent, you just have to keep a cool head at the enemies he spawns in. I only really have trouble avoiding that attack where he spins two giant blades like a top and then launches them at you

After Nero is done angsting a lot about losing Kyrie (again) we go to Mission 10 and quite possibly the hardest boss in the entire game:

Uncle Dante himself!

It's very appropriate for him to be such a pain in the ass to beat. On DMD the dude's nearly untouchable, if you try hitting him with the sword he will ALWAYS block and if you try to shoot at him he will either dodge or return back fire with his own guns

The only real way to damage him is as soon as he's done with one of his attacks but you only have a brief, REALLY fucking brief window of opportunity and it's really easy to get flustered and fuck it up

He's also almost immune to the Buster Grab, even if you do manage to grab him it will just result in that animations where they both clash their swords for a while. The only way to actually damage him with a buster is to have Devil Trigger turned on

Wanna know something REALLY cool about this fight though?

If you're fighting him on a new game + (like I am) Dante will use all of the moves and weapons you had previously acquired while playing as him

No really, on your very first playthrough he won't be using half of this stuff, but the better you'll get as him the worse he'll fuck you over when fighting him.

The only thing he never uses is his Devil Trigger, I guess to communicate that, even with how hard this battle is, he's fundementally holding back against Nero.

Also, the next Mission will be the last Nero Mission for quite a while! After which we'll be switching over to the wacky whohoo pizza man himself!

And the game's real issues will start showing up...

One thing that i loved about and that goes a bit under the radar of Ashera's ascension quest, buried under great character moments and so much sweet, sweet angst, is how it works as another little sign on how Moebius might not the world as put together as the claim. The Agnus/Keves soldier cycle isn't fool proof memories aren't erased completely so eventually even without the annihilation events wiping the world of Aionios out the cycle will eventually create forces that will fight against it, if things kept going Ashera would probably start her own city like rebellion force because the copper they're trying to sell is shit
