Now let me start by saying, similar to when I was making the reveling analysis of this 1.06 teaser a while back, these kisses had me damn near too distracted to type any commentary for this post lol. I can explain this further because I think you're misunderstanding me.

Yes I agree the jellals redemption is far to centered on erza and being good enough for her not for himself, but that is still HIS perspective. When we look at the objective facts of what happened the only perspective we are shown is how bad jellal feels about it rather then how it effected erza and how her relationship with him has changed as a result.

When I say erza perspective I'm being literal. I think we should see through her eyes how her feelings about him change as he earns her forgivness overtime. At the same time I don't think he should be taking these actions specifically to earn her forgivness, I think that should just be the effect they have.

Why does anyone else's perspective matter on his redemption arc? Well because people where hurt, so ofc their perspective matters. A redemption arc is composed of 2 parts, the internal shift in mindset of the perpetrator and the actions they take to atone. Jellal was under somone elses control so there is no shift in mindset taht needs to take place, what matters most for completing the redemption arc now is addressing erzas feelings about him after everything that happened and showing to her, and also the audience, that he has changed.

That being said, that's the part that matters FOR THE REDEMPTION ARC, it shouldent be his entire character. In my ideal world jellals character arc post redemption is focused on himself, realizing he can't keep idolizing erza and punishing himself and instead focusing on living for himself and discovering what he actually wants out of life, since he never got a chance to do it before. Meanwhile, the completion of the actual redemption is told through erzas perspective. It comes in the form of watching through erzas' eyes as his actions prove that he has changed, and she becomes more and more comfortable with the idea of reconnecting. That way, when jellal has finally learned to live for himself and erza is finally able to really forgive him, the payoff for both their arcs is their relationship.

Anyway I'm gonna go over some of the points you brought up now to hopefully clarify/answer some things because I think we generally agree? Idk reading through this it seems like your opinion generally aligns with mine where jellal is concerned

1. Another person's opinion matters because when you hurt people their feelings matter. Like I said earlier, there are 2 sides to a redemption arc, the shift within the person themselves and the actions they take to afterward. For the first part the feelings of the person themselves matter because we need to watch them change internally, for the second the important thing is their actions and the feelings that matter are the ones of the people they hurt because that's when we see the change externally.

2. Yea Ik, but like i said that's not what I mean by perspective. His guilt is shown through what he did to her FROM HIS PERSPECTIVE, but the actual effect it had on her isn't something ever focused on after tenrou. I'm not saying that we need more of his perspective on her, I'm saying we need more of her perspective on him.

3. It feels like a front specifically because we never watch her actually come to forgive him naturally. Nobody is forcing her to do anything that wasn't the point, the point was i think it wouldent feel like that so much if we actually got to see it happen.

3.5 (on erza holding all the power in their dynamic) I'm not really sure how this is relevent? Like yea i don't particularly like how he seems to treat her as an ideal of goodness, but that's also not really what I'm talking about here. In any case I fail to see how that's her fault? Jellals actions effected a lot of people but erzas the one we've seen the direct impact of the most, therefore from to the audience she is the most important person to focus on. It extends beyond her but she's the one supposed to be in a romantic relationship with him so yea, narrratively her feelings are going to need more focus than the others.

As for the other part yea I'm still not disagreeing with you, I think you just misunderstood my point. All those things your referencing are from jellals' perspective. Jellals the one who sees erza as being above him and himself as being unworthy of her, that is his perspective on her. Meanwhile her perspective on him is generally ignored and written off as "she has forgiven him and moved on" without us ever actually seeing that happen.

5. Yea i agree, nothing to say here really that is part of the reason I dislike it. as I said above, I think jellals character arc should have been focused on himself where as the actual redemption aspect came from erzas character arc.

Not to say I think her arc should been about him, what I mean is that their individual character arcs work together in order to really show the redemption, because as erza moves past her trauma she forgives jellal and as jellal grows as a person he reconnects with erza.

For example, they had originally animated shorts, stop motion projects, A COLLAB WITH MARSHMELLO AND DUCKTALES, and also a literal Instagram account that just posted the same Marco pic every day!

Hell, they did some solid PR for Gravity Falls too! There were some great things they made for the show and despite XD not being so popular, it felt a lot like the PR actually cared about the shows they promoted.

That's not to say though that Disney XD was always great at PR. They neglected a ton of shows like MIlo Murhphy's Law and I mean, they too had their stinkers when it came to PR like for example...

Yes...that's REAL (still better than what DTVA posted tbh though)! But they at least put more effort in overall and so, these bad ones were more forgivable. All Disney TVA does is get their intern to slap together a meme anyone could make using Imgflip and calling it a day!

I think that this screw up is an indication of a larger problem, which is that Disney TVA doesn't know how to promote its shows properly. Hell, Alex Hirsch did far more fucking PR for the Book of Bill using Oregon Parks than Disney TVA ever did for the show in all the years they've had their own social media page! Hell, DuckTales used to have its own Twitter account that did far better PR and don't forget, Gravity Falls had its own Tumblr page called @gravityfalls which on its own was pretty good at PR for its time.
