Wow booksworms, it's been a while since I posted here and I'm sorry for that! If you'd like a full run down of everything going on this past month for me check out my post Coffee With Catherine on my blog beesandbooks.home.blog! I am luckily living in my own apartment again, though we still don't have our own bed. Working full time but with a permanent schedule which means I can actually sit down and find dedicated times for reading, blogging, and bookstagram! Life is slowly getting on track again, and that means I can start engaging here more! One of my goals this year is to organically grow my bookstagram. By that I mean I want to really feel like I know people in this community, and feel close to some of them. I want bookstagram to be fun and happy and about friendship and support. I'm going to try not to pay attention to follower numbers but instead to the names that pop up every day and bring a smile! #QOTD: What makes you smile on bookstagram? . . . #bookstagram #books #bookblogger #bookworm #booknerd #booklover #bibliophile #ebooks #kindle #kindlereader #igbooks #igreads #coffee #coffeelover #historybook #bookblog

It became clear to me last year after reading Hunted by Meagan Spooner that I'm a sucker for a Beauty & the Beast retelling. When I first heard about The Beast's Heart and that it was from Beast's point of view, I knew I'd be reading it. I'm not that far into it yet, but I am loving the lush description! Fingers crossed for Beast angst! A sumptuously magical, brand new take on a tale as old as time—read the Beast's side of the story at long last. I am neither monster nor man—yet I am both. I am the Beast. The day I was cursed to this wretched existence was the day I was saved—although it did not feel so at the time. My redemption sprung from contemptible roots; I am not proud of what I did the day her father happened upon my crumbling, isolated chateau. But if loneliness breeds desperation then I was desperate indeed, and I did what I felt I must. My shameful behaviour was unjustly rewarded. My Isabeau. She opened my eyes, my mind and my heart; she taught me how to be human again. And now I might lose her forever. Lose yourself in this gorgeously rich and magical retelling of The Beauty and the Beast that finally lays bare the beast's heart. #currentlyreading #arc #prhpartner #blog #bookblog #bookblogger #read #reader #reading #bookworm #fantasy #ace #berkleypublishing #beautyandthebeast #booksofig #igbooks #book #books #retelling #fairytail https://www.instagram.com/p/BtnzPaxgTNx/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1vn75fq8bhiva

Book 133 of 2021. What makes you a reader? What makes for a good reader? How old were you when you started reading? I was eight when I became a lifetime, card carrying, heart and soul invested member of the Reader's Club ™️ Mr. Meddle Stories by Enid Blyton had me hooked and my life was never the same again. Since then books have been a part of my existence. An inedible part of who I am. I couldn't even begin to tell you how much they've shaped me, held me and healed me. I love reading and I love love love talking about books and getting others to read. For the last 10 years or so, I've actively been in the 'getting people to read business'. Before Instagram. Before Book Blogging. Years ago I had a personal blog where I occasionally talked about my weekly reads and snippets of my library hauls. One of my regular readers, a 60 year old grandpa, was inspired to read again seeing me gush about books. It made me so happy that I had gotten him to read again, after decades. He picked up books he had never heard of or books he thought he wouldn't understand or enjoy. He fell in love with reading again. His joy made my heart happy. And everytime one of you pick a book on my recommendation, I do a little happy dance (in my ❤️). This book is a little lovesong for readers. For books. For libraries. For stories and the infinite power they wield. This book felt like a hug. Brimming with so much heart, a sense of community and finding your own people. And books. So many good books. PS: I've read and loved every single title on this Reading List. . . . #whimsybookworm2021reads #IndianBooksinAugust #thereadinglist #bookrecommendations #bookstagram #bookstacks #readercommunity #bookreviews #bookbloggers #bookblogging (at India) https://www.instagram.com/p/CTCFkMwpDnb/?utm_medium=tumblr

[Book Tour] Hello everyone!! I am so excited to be part of the City of Gold by Nikki Mitchell (@nikkimitchellauthorpage) book Tour that is organized by @literaryboundtours . It's a middle grade portal fantasy book that released in March 2021. *** The 2nd book of Eleanor Mason's Literary Adventures was as enjoyable as the first one. It is a magical book that reads like a fairytale. In this one we follow Eleanor in a new adventure from her book where she tries to save another magical place. I really like the author's writing and ow at the end of the book she left the door open for more stories as well as for more information about Eleanor's magical fairytale book. *** Synopsis: Sometimes a magic portal can be found in ordinary things. That’s exactly what Eleanor Mason discovers when she receives a tattered book of stories from her father. After her first adventure in the Nightshade Forest, Eleanor quickly jumps through the portal again, only to find herself standing in a field of golden wheat. When a nervous rabbit asks her to save the city from an evil imp with a magic spinning wheel, Eleanor knows she must join him on an epic adventure to solve a riddle, destroy the wheel, and save the townspeople—all before the sun rises on the city. Can Eleanor rely on the prophecy of an ancient fairy statue to save the day, or will she run out of time and watch as her friends slowly turn to gold? *** Check out my post on my blog Book Notes by Athina through the link in my bio for more information. *** #literaryboundtours #cityofgoldtour #eleanormasonsliteraryadventures #nikkimitchell #greekbookstagram #instavivlio #vivlio #diavazo #eucitesc #mybookfeatures #bdstars #booknotes_athina #booklove #booksbooksbooks #booksofig #readingismagic #bookishlife #bookblog #bookstagrammers #bookstagramit #booktour (at Bucharest, Romania) https://www.instagram.com/p/COnIfWJr1jr/?igshid=11wcvlx9v2lna

There is genuinely nothing more pleasant than a bank holiday weekend – especially if the sun is shining!
Feeling in the summery mood lately, I bought a small bird feeder that sticks to my window. Who knew such things existed?! You don’t have to have a garden to enjoy nature, it seems. Over the past few days I have had a number of small visitors to my windowsill.
So what else has been going on with me? This week I posted a couple of reviews to the blog, and I would really love if you could check them out (if you haven’t done so already)! On Wednesday I posted my review of Eternity’s Echoes by Evan Hirson, a science-fiction novel in which five teenagers harness the power of time travel. Sticking with the science-fiction theme, I shared my review of Empire of Silence by Christopher Ruocchio. I really enjoyed reading both these books! Science-fiction books are enjoyable reads… but it’s not a genre I pick up everyday. I’ve decided I definitely need to read more of this genre.
Books Read
This week’s read is The Toymakers by Robert Dinsdale. In my Sunday Summary last week I touched on the book as I had just started reading it. Now I am just over half way through and I absolutely love it! It is a story of a Toy Emporium whose magic is legendary. The Emporium opens at first frost for the Christmas period and closes again when the snowdrops bloom. Cathy, a pregnant teenager runs away from the family that have shunned her and joins the Emporium. I love how and why Papa Jack created the Emporium. His life has not always been plain sailing, but it goes a long way to showing why he thinks and how the “magic” of his Emporium allures children and adults alike! I can’t wait to finish this book.
Nevernight has also been on my list this week, and I have been listening to this audiobook getting ready for work. This is a long audiobook, so I am going to be listening to it for a while! Annoyingly I lost a little bit of my progress (must have closed the app or something) so I had to make that up again, but it’s not the end of the world.
Books Discovered
I posted about this on Instagram and Twitter yesterday, because I was so excited to receive this book mail! Season of Storms was published on the 22nd May and I am delighted to have been provided with a review copy! I really enjoyed reading The Last Wish last year – and I’ve played a little of the game franchise too! This beautiful hardback is going to be tempting me – I just know it!
Coming Up…
On Tuesday I am going to be sharing another Quintessential Quotes post, because I said I was going to write them more often. And I haven’t. Normally when I set these up I have an idea of a theme I’m going to base it on… but not this time! I’m basically going to decide when I write it.
This might be fun…
Later on next week I am going to be posting a review of Diana Christmas by F. R. Jameson; I was kindly requested to review this book by the author in exchange for an electronic copy. Diana Christmas is a screen siren, whom at the peak of her fame, disappears from the limelight. When our film journalist Michael meets her years later, the sinister truth starts to unravel as to why Diana disappeared.
I am also hoping to share an interview with the author about this book, so please stay tuned for that too!
Another weekly recap all things at Reviewsfeed! I've been reading a lot of #sciencefiction lately, and this week I am indulging in #TheToymakers and #Nevernight . #bookworm #bookblog #amreading #historicalfiction There is genuinely nothing more pleasant than a bank holiday weekend - especially if the sun is shining!

“That’s the point of it, Bryce...Of life. To live, to love, knowing that it might all vanish tomorrow. It makes everything that much more precious.” . . I am at a crisis point in life where my creativity has decided to go through puberty again and so I am experimenting. I finally revamped my blog well enough for what the free service gets me and so I’m turning my attention to this hot mess feed. It’s 200% easier for me to knock out quick photoshop mockups then physical book lays or stacks or whatever. So for the time being, in practicing that concept. I’ve also decided I don’t particularly care if they appear photoshopped so long as they look aesthetically pleasing. Would love input from anyone who has used this method before. As with all things tried, may take a moment to find a groove so buckle up friends. . . #fantasy #fantasybooks #adultfantasy #bookworm #bookstagram #bookstagramfeatures #bookish #bookblogger #bookblog #bookshop #bibliophile #booknerd #booksofinstagram #igbooks #crescentcity #houseofearthandblood #sarahjmaas #brycequinlan #huntathalar https://www.instagram.com/p/CDrM1czgRFf/?igshid=wzqeyjpjv303

Little Life/Blog Update: . . Okay so I fell behind again 😅, I think I’ve found that I really need to plan ahead and prepare posts if I want to be posting regularly rather than bulk posting as I write the posts… So that’s what I’m testing out this month. As of when I’m writing this I have 29 days planned WITH PHOTOS and I’m on day 3 for captions 😮. I highly recommend checking out my book blog, The Troubles and Woes of a Bookworm (link in bio) for updates regarding the future of my blog (it’s the pinned post), also check out the NEW PAGE ‘Trouble Tuesday’ for a sneak peek into what 2020 has in store for my blog and bookstagram. 😉😍 . . I also turned 23 the other day (well.. On the 19th of November I did) 😊. So that was exciting 🎂. Got really confused because I’ve been telling people I’m 21 for the past year then told my best friend I was excited to be 24 after she told me ‘Happy Birthday’. Basically I don’t know how old I am and had to confirm with my dear mother how many years it’s been since they cut her open and pulled me. . Enjoy that graphic. 😊 . . . #bookblog #Bookblogger #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookaddict #Bookworm #bibliopile #bookdragon #books #booknerd #bookish #reader #booksubscriptionbox #unboxing #subscriptionbox #baecrate #faecrate #PNR #NAFantasy #fantasyreads #romancereads #readromance #romancenovels #romancesubscriptionbox #lifeupdate #TTAWOABW #thetroublesandwoesofabookworm https://www.instagram.com/p/B5oECQaAhbR/?igshid=1ik4zohnujx6p

I start working again next week and what I’m most excited about is getting to read on the train while I commute an hour and a half in and out of the city. Is that weird? I just feel like it’ll be such a great way to get back into reading post book slump. What else am I going to do for an hour and a half per train ride? I am one of those people that thrive when I set goals for myself. The end of 2017/beginning of 2018 was a bit crazy for me, so I didn’t really sit down and set myself goals for 2018. I really missed working towards goals & checking things off my list in 2018, so I am back setting myself some bookish goals in 2019…
» Goal #1: Read 100 books
After reading 120 books in 2017, I decided to back off my reading a bit in 2018 to make more time for blogging. I ended up reading 109 books in 2018, which I was more than happy with. I decided to set my reading goal to 100 books again for 2019 for the same reasons.
» Goal #2: Reach 80% feedback ratio on NetGalley = 15 backlist ARCs
Guys, I promise it’s going to happen this year! I’m actually going to shoot to get this one done towards the half way point of the year. To achieve this, I’ll need to read 2-3 backlist ARCs a month until June. This is totally doable. Once I reach the 80% feedback ratio, I will only allow myself to request those books that I am highly anticipating. I will never dig myself a hole like I did in 2016.
» Goal #3: Read 30 physical TBR books (purchased before 2019)
My physical TBR has gotten WAY out of control. I blame my discovery of Book Outlet in 2018… well okay, it was out of control BEFORE I discovered Book Outlet, but now it is an even bigger problem. To read 30 books off my physical TBR, all I need to do is read 2-3 books a month off my shelves.
» Goal #4: Stop buying new books
Yes, that’s right. I need to place myself on a dreaded book buying ban. This is necessary for a few different reasons. For one, there are far to many unread books sitting on my shelves. Secondly, I spent WAY too much money on books this past year. I am hoping by NOT buying new books, I can focus this year on knocking out my physical TBR. I will be utilizing my local library to supply me with my new release needs, even if this does mean I’ll have to wait to read them. There will be exceptions to this book buying ban of course. I will not be counting any books purchased at book events where I need to purchase a book for the author to sign or special occasions like my birthday or Christmas.
*My name is Amanda, and I haven’t bought a new book since 2018!
» Goal #5: Complete a book inventory spreadsheet
I’ve actually already starting working on this goal. I created a new tab on my reading spreadsheet to keep track of the books I actually own. Does anyone else struggle remembering which books they own? True story, I’ve bought the same book twice… on a few different occasions. This is why I need an inventory list. This inventory list will also give me a total number of books on my shelves that are unread.
» Goal #6: Write mini reviews for all the books I read in 2019
I want to do away with listing a few of my thoughts and feelings in my weekly wrap-up posts, and start writing mini reviews for most of the books I read. My goal is to work on these mini reviews as I finish books, then post a batch or two each month.
» Goal #7: Post at least TWO creative blog posts per month
I guess “creative posts” is a subjective phrase… I just mean posts other than wrap-ups, reviews, TBRs, etc. I have so many ideas sitting in my drafts, I just need to make the time to sit down and write them.
» Goal #8: Start backing up my blog posts & backup my past blog posts
After watching my friend Jackie @Death by Tsundoku lose all of her blog content this past year, it opened my eyes to the fact that if it happened to her, it could easily happen to me. I need to make it a blogging habit to include copying my blog posts to my Google drive as I go. Going back and backing up all my old posts is going to take time, BUT would give me peace of mind knowing that my content is safe.
» Goal #9: Start taking notes while reading for review purposes
I used to religiously take notes while reading. This made reviewing much easier, but I found that it slowed my reading way down. This is probably because I took an insane amount of notes that were not necessary. Somewhere along the way, I stopped taking notes while reading. When it comes time to write my review, I struggle to remember what I wanted to mention in the review. This causes me to put reviews off for weeks, sometimes months. This is NOT the way to write book reviews. Learn from my mistakes! I am making it a goal to go back to writing notes while reading, but not to the point where it slows my reading down. I just need to jot things down as I go, and not over complicate my notes.
» Goal #10: Read a few of the “long” books I’ve been putting off
It’s no secret that “long” books intimidate me to the point of putting them off. If the book has over 600 pages, there is a slim chance I will give it a go. The sad thing is that I never used to be this way. Back in 2009, I read the first 8 books in the Outlander series back to back and didn’t bat an eye. I blame the obsession in the bookish community to read as many books as possible every year. Instead of being more concerned with the quality of books, we obsess over the quantity of books we read every year. I have gotten to the point where I will look at a book over 600 pages and think to myself “I could read TWO books in the time I read this one book.” This makes me sad. I could be missing out on so many wonderful books & series simply because they are longer than the typical books I read.
Here are a few books I’ve been putting off that I want to read in 2019…
»American Gods by Neil Gaiman – 635 pages
»11/22/63 by Stephen King – 849 pages
»The Wise Man’s Fear (The Kingkiller Chronicles #2) by Patrick Rothfuss – 994 pages

Hey there bookworms!
Welcome back to another week on my blog! This post is to catch you up on all that has been happening here, and what I have been up to. Today my fiancé and I went Christmas shopping (late as usual) and we got most things that we were after so that was a bonus..just need to get a few last minute things and we are organised 🙂 I also bought myself a 2018 diary/planner to keep myself organised. I am making myself a deal that I will be better at my blogging and my reading next year – always posting on time and regularly, as I want to grow my blog and get my reviews seen by more and more people, so I need to keep on top of it..as well as read WAY MORE THAN I DID THIS YEAR! I only managed 31 books this year (which I am not happy with as I set a goal for 50) I think I will set a goal for 40 next year and do my best to get to it.
Let’s get to the books:
Currently Reading This Week:
Fire’s Kiss by Brittany Pate: This one was sent to me for review (up tomorrow) I am currently 50% done, so will be finishing it tonight and posting my review. I am really enjoying it so far!
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon: This one I am technically “currently reading” however, I haven’t picked it up in ages! Need to get back into it and soon. It is a really good read so far…inly about 12% done..
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Askaban by J.K. Rowling: This one, again I haven’t picked up in the longest time, and need to finish it by the end of the year at least – I don’t want to carry any old books into the new year! But of course I am loving this one!
Listening To This Week:
The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena: I have listened to 25% of this book on Audible. Still not too sure what I think of it, but it definitely has potential to be a great read, so hopefully I’m not disappointed.
Last Weeks’ Blog Posts:
The Dear Departed by Anne Roebuck: Review
Lovesick Gods by Amanda Meuwissen: Blog Tour Spotlight
The Funeral Flower by Michelle Jester: Review
Triple Cross Killer by Rosemarie Aquilina: Blog Tour Spotlight
If I was your Girl by Meredith Russo: Audiobook Review
Flowers in Winter by Mary J. Williams: Blog Tour Spotlight
Detective Blanchette Mysteries by Marquerite Ashton: Blog Tour Spotlight
To Discover a Divine by Tessa McFionn: Cover Reveal
A Historical Romance Blitz: Book Blitz
Goddess of the Wild Thing by Paul DeBlassie III: Blog Tour Spotlight
Beat The Backlist: 2018 Reading Challenge
This Week’s Blog Posts:
Fire’s Kiss by Brittany Pate Review
Losing Cadence & Finding Sophie by Laura Lovett Blog Tour Spotlight
I’ve Been Looking for You by Jennifer Dean Blog Tour Spotlight
Thank you for stopping by to check out this week’s update! I have been a bit busy with the blog tour posts, but I am hoping to up my reading and reviews in the coming weeks and into the new year. What have you all been up to on your blogs this week? I would love to hear about it all in the comments box below 🙂
Until next time, happy reading

Happy Saturday, friends! What is everyone up to this weekend? . . I am, once again, doing more work with the hubs on my office shed. (Basically, that's every weekend now until it's done!) It’s Sunday again! It barely feels like the weekend has even started, and already we are over half way through.
Weekends are just not long enough.
This week I opened up a little about myself in my review of the audiobook An Almond for A Parrot by Wray Delaney. This normally isn’t the sort of book I would pick up, however the historical setting and inclusion of magic swayed me to see what it was all about. Whilst I enjoyed the book – I won’t deny it made me feel a little awkward. You can catch the full details in my review.
Books Read
I finally finished Empire of Silence this week, and boy… was it worth the wait! I’ve been reading this book for a few weeks now, and it’s really made me think I ought to pick up science-fiction books more often. I want to thank Gollancz once again for giving me the opportunity to read this book prior to it’s release in July and I cannot wait to share a full review.
Sticking with the science-fiction theme, I have also read Eternity’s Echoes at the request of the author. A quick thank you here for providing me with an ecopy of the book. It’s a tale that explores the concept of time travel and potential consequences it may have if misused. I’ll be publishing a review shortly, so keep an eye out for that.
I also furthered my audiobook progress this week! So far I am loving the narrative of Nevernight. Not only is the story interesting, I love Mia as a character. The narrative itself is written in a clear manner, with an underlying tone of sarcastic wit that I relate to entirely; the narrator does an excellent job in encapsulating this. I can’t wait to listen to the story further!

My first book buy of the week was Fools and Mortals by Bernard Cornwell. I love his Saxon stories series, (aka The Last Kingdom to those that only watch it on TV), and I also love everything about the stage and theatre. Picking up this book was a no-brainer for me once I saw it!
I actually received a copy of Blackwing to read and review from Gollancz a couple of weeks ago(?!)… ish. Anyway. I hadn’t added it to my blog before because I like to post to social media to thank the publisher first, which I was rather late in doing.
I have this amazing ability to be as un-photogenic as possible, and if I’m not convinced I like a picture… I won’t share it. Thank the lord for photo editing… because I still wasn’t all that great when I finally took that photo. Thanks to some cropping and a cheeky filter, I published the photo on Instagram / Twitter and you were spared the sight of my hideous sunburn. It rather matched my lipstick. No joke. I am Casper the ghost in corporeal form.
Coming Up…
Almost a month after I read the book, I’ll be posting my review of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne. I really enjoyed this book, even though the topic is less than cheery. If anyone is yet to read it, I highly recommend it. As for the film… I don’t think I could watch it. I’m weak.
My Sunday Summary comes around once again! The weeks are just going too quickly! All the usual content included #bookworm #bookblog #amreading #fantasy #sciencefiction It's Sunday again! It barely feels like the weekend has even started, and already we are over half way through.

2020 Most Anticipated Reads - I'm so excited, but my wallets afraid.🙈 #newpost #blogpost #bookpost #bookblog #books #blog #blogger #bloggerswanted #bloggerstribe #bloggingcommunity #bookish #mostanticipatedbooks
I can’t believe I’m doing another one of these posts. It feels like I just wrote my 2019 one, and now here I am again. 2020 releases – at least the ones I’ve found so far – sound so amazing and I’m so ready to dive into these books. My wallet and bank account may hate me – especially in March (there are a lotof books coming out then) – but I’m excited. I’m excited for this new year and what it…
