Oh Neil, you poor boy cowering in the shadow of your father, his legacy locked within your image and the face you share with him. No matter what new name and identity you create, you know your father will never be far behind, you will always be his son. At least, that’s how it used to be.

Learning to Be Lost

This I feel resonates more with Andrew, but one could argue resonates with both. They both have tortured pasts that are unspeakable to almost all but each other, but Andrew shoves that past and those memories behind a face of calm indifference and apathy. But they are both navigating a relationship with each other that they are unfamiliar with, and didn’t necessarily intend to enter. As they reveal bit and bit of their pasts, they don’t want pity or sympathy, their pasts are what created them and they refuse to be treated as though they are broken, especially Andrew.

THIS IS ALLLLL NEIL BABYYY. Blindly continuing to follow his mother’s words and advice, she kept him safe for so long after all (in her own way). He trusted that she loved him, wanted to protect him, but he missed out on so much because of her. Missed out on friends and life in general, people who might have been able to actually help him. If it wasn’t for meeting people more stubborn than him, for wanting to just exist for once, he could’ve been on the run and never settling for so much longer. Or have died.

aaron and andrew avoiding addressing the flaws in their relationship that they’re both aware of, refusing to have a meaningful conversation because that would drag up the history they’re trying to bury. but they’re both drowning in it because the consequence of that is a relationship that is suffocating

andrew self-destructing to keep aaron away from drake. i guess you could also consider aaron’s grief for his mother a consequence of his relationship with andrew so in that sense, he also suffered to maintain that relationship, even though of course that’s a very complicated idea as tilda was also causing him to suffer.

and they live in that suffocation just waiting for the attention of the other, both unable to talk to each other due to their history and because they are ‘choking’.

again, both of them suffering through their relationship due to their desperation to have any relationship at all with the other. ‘you’ll never bear the weight of too’ - reference to aaron’s grief for tilda maybe? and if that’s how we take that line, then it’s from andrew’s pov, so u really see how he viewed aaron’s grief for tilda as a betrayal of sorts.

obviously the songs romantic context is unavoidable here but if we forget the ‘be together’ and consider it as ‘be “real” brothers’ then… i think this lines pretty obvious in its meaning :(

I love the implication of how they can relax finally. Like they can spend this time together, however they like, for however long they like.
