Sucker Punch (616 - 20k + of pain. the absolute perfect kind. it’s so unapologetically hurtful i am gone for it. just like the title, it’s a sucker punch alright. it’s my forever reread)

Steve never quite warms to Tony Stark, Avengers benefactor. The Molecule Man never strips Iron Man out of his armor. Life goes on for the Avengers, but as disagreements split the team -- and Shellhead and Winghead-- again and again, Steve wonders why Iron Man always picks Tony over him. And when Steve finds out, it happens in the worst way possible.

this is me trying (stevetony, modern AU, 21.6k)

it's probably a bit cliche to put this on the list bc its also my most recent fic, but i genuinely do love this fic a lot. an unbelievable amount of credit goes to @omg-just-peachy who loves the fic so much more than i do, and without whom, the fic would've definitely just lived in my drafts as an idea that never got completed. so im like double proud of this fic bc i stuck to my initial plan and didn't lengthen it, and i finished it!!

2. begin again (samtony, modern AU, 9.9k)

this is still probably one of the fics im the proudest of, and it was such a genuine joy to write. i never used to understand those author notes about how they were only planning to write X number of words but then somehow ended up w 10k, until this fic. i am famously someone who writes and prefers to write shorter things but this fic just refused to stop at a decent 2k and it was all written in one sitting, because it flowed out of me incessantly. something i'm always going to be proud of.

3. and now my heart's been stolen (samtony, post TWS AU, 5k)

i think the thing that i felt the most proud of from this fic is the number of people who commented saying that they didn't originally go for samtony as a ship, but that my fic converted them and they wanted more - because thats like every author's dream. it's to make the readers see your characters the way you see them, and its kinda special that i was able to do that with this fic.

4. 1000 lives (for you) (buckytony, soulmates AU, 20k)

i was kinda apprehensive about adding this to the list - not bc i wasn't proud of it but bc i feel so guilty that the sequel isn't out yet - but i am extremely proud of this fic. marrying my vision with mcu canon in a way that felt believable and building suspense over multiple chapters is a challenge for someone like me (and i would never have done it well without @omg-just-peachy and @pretty-grim) but this story was like 2 years in the making and im so happy its out there and people enjoyed it

5. the things we tell ourselves in the dark (stevetony, emh, 1.1k)

this fic is another one of those fics that i wrote all in one sitting, and its also my only marvel fic to date that's set in a non-mcu verse. i went down an emh wormhole, and i ltr wrote this fic after watching this episode, like instantly after. i genuinely was worried that i would get the characterisations wrong, so one of the things i enjoyed the most was getting comments where people said they could see this scene be included at the end of the episode!!

Losing You (Is My Supervillain Origin Story):  @amethystinawrites

There are a lot of things that Bucky regrets. The list is, quite frankly, longer than he can handle on most days and, right at the very top, is lying to Tony about who killed his parents. Bucky has known even from before they started dating, but he simply can't bring himself to say anything — to ruin one of the few good things he has in his life. It's selfish and wrong, but Bucky just doesn't know how to tell Tony that he is the one responsible for Howard and Maria Stark's deaths.

So when he starts receiving anonymous emails, threatening to expose the truth to Tony and the rest of the world, Bucky is desperate enough to agree to the blackmailer's terms, even if it means breaking up with Tony. Bucky cannot, under any circumstances, let Tony find out about his parents from anyone but Bucky himself.

Too late Bucky realizes that there is much more to the blackmailer's scheme than just having Bucky break Tony's heart. Too late Bucky realizes that despite his best intentions, he will still end up losing everything — in a much more permanent way than he could ever have imagined.

Ever since he was a little boy, Bucky has dreamed of becoming an astronaut together with Steve, and he can hardly believe their luck when both of them are picked for the Ares 3 crew — the third expedition sent to explore Mars. It is, quite literally, a dream come true.

Things get complicated when Bucky finds himself inconveniently attracted to their mechanical engineer, however. Tony Stark is funny, competent, and absolutely captivating, but considering NASA's strict non-fraternization policy, Bucky knows it's better to keep his interest to himself — at least until they return to Earth. He can wait.

Not once does Bucky consider the possibility that all of them might not make it back alive, or just how much he'll come to regret not acting when he had the chance.

It takes a moment for the meaning of the words to register, but when it does, Bucky turns cold, stomach sinking. “Are—are you breakin’ up with me? Tony—”

“You didn’t do anything wrong,” Tony hurries to reassure, reading Bucky’s mind. “You were perfect, Bucky, I swear you were. Are. This. It’s not. It’s really not you,” he says with a small, humourless chuckle, “it’s me.”

Bucky looks at the tense line of Tony’s shoulders, at the sad set of his mouth, the defeat in his eyes, and he knows it’s the truth. Or, at least, what Tony believes to be true.

Or; sometimes, people mean well, but that doesn't always mean they know best. Bucky and Tony, unfortunately, have to learn that the hard way.
