Friendly reminder that Percy just, blew up, AN ENTIRE FREAKING VOLCANO, at 15 years old, in Battle of the labyrinth, and it literally was never brought up after that book. I think of this at least once a week. Annabeth was scared that Percy controlled poison and almost killed a demon woman (that was trying to kill them). Like what about Mt. St. Helens, did that not hurt people? Can we talk about this more?

Oh. Oh no. Prompt idea. NO I HAVE TOO MANY 😭.
I'll share it here so i can curse you all as well ! (But you Life. Please you have enough WIPs you're not the one i wanna curse with my idea).
Anyway ! So it builds slowly, the way the camp treats him is Indeed, annoying but tolerable for the little group of friends he has there. He doesn't act on it but it's in the side of his mind.
They were preparing for the war, small missions, training, finding or making more weapons when someone started it all. Of course it was not the first time someone had called him a monster but it was never in these very words.
"So what kind of monster do you think blew up Mt. St-Helen ?"
"My bet is either on Typhon being woken up by the war or Kronos himself doing it to free him and distract the Gods"
"Yeah, I don't think the pack of telchines that was there could have done it..."
And Percy stills. He held back a sarcastic "Gee, thanks, it's the first time you call me a Monster at my face". He did not want them to know and have even more people at camp looking at him with fear or suspicion.
"But what if it's not them who did it though ?"
"Then someone will probably get a quest to hunt it down, hopefully after the War"
It. They called him a it. Very much like Gabe did at some point, as if he did not even deserve to be thought as a living being, even less a human. And Percy knew they didn't know it was him but it still very much burnt.
He ignored Annabeth's worried frown after she called them back at work.
It. Monster. Mistake.
It was not the first time so why did it touch him so much now ?
I don’t know if CHB ever actually found out about Percy blowing up Mt St Helen’s or if Percy decided that he didn’t want the camp to know he was powerful enough to blow up a (dormant?) volcano, especially since everyone was always on edge regarding his powers, but I like to think that they only found out when a camper said they’d hate to meet the monster who blew it up, and Percy just went “Well, thanks, didn’t realize I was a monster now 😒,” just mentally debating if it was too late to join Kronos or if his army would accept him now, and all campers within hearing distance were all 👁👄👁
idk if they found out about it being Percy. Based on what the Gods say it seems a bit vague? Like they know it blew up and he was there but they don't know if he was the cause maybe.
But it would indeed be wild for the campers to say maybe a monster did it or smth and Percy be like "No <3 It was me <3 Not a monster <3" and the awkward silence. But I feel like he'd mostly be uncomfortable with it because he like... doesn't like that kind of attention. I'm not sure if he'd talk about it at all if he didn't have to.
