Help Save the Iwais Family

I am writing this on behalf of my friend, Mohammed Iwais. He and his family have been suffering in Gaza for months, and have been displaced at least 8 times. After losing 10 members of his family to bombing, he has tried his utmost to keep the remaining 27 members of his family together. However, after a recent bombing and displacement, his family has been separated, with half of them sleeping on the streets. His family desperately needs funds to be able to evacuate to Egypt in September. This includes his sister, who is still healing after being shot in the leg by a quadcopter bullet, and his seven year old nephew, who was injured in the explosion that recently displaced his family. 

Mohammed has shown such incredible selflessness, loyalty, and determination throughout this tragic and unjust situation. He was been laboring for months trying to keep his family cared for and together.

Imagine how hard it must be to keep going when enduring such trauma, and watching those you love suffer around you. Please, help me to support him as much as you can. Please donate if you are able, anything helps. If you cannot donate, please reblog this post and help share his campaign.

2023 Prague Shootings

David Kozák was born August 12th 1999 in Hostouň, Czech Republic. Little is known about his early life.

After graduating high school Kozák started studying at the Charles University in Prague, specifically studying the history of Poland. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree and successfully defended his thesis, earning an excellent grade from his professor, František Stellner.

According to Czech police chief, Martin Vondrášek, Kozák had a gun license and owned 8 firearms at the time of the shooting. In the Czech Republic in order to obtain a gun license one must get a medical examination, amongst other things. Kozák’s friend, only named ‘Alice’, had become concerned with Kozáks mental state in summer of 2022. Due to this, Kozák underwent 4 psychiatric visits. During which he stated his suicidal tendencies before later stating his murderous thoughts aimed towards his parents and unassuming people. By the Psychiatrists advisory, Kozák visited the Psychologist once in December of 2022. In Czech Republic, psychiatrists must forward their reports to the patients general practitioner, if it is known to them, however Kozák did not disclose it, so no report was issued.

With this lack of knowledge, Kozák was able to obtain a gun license with the only rule being that he must wear glasses.

Police stated that Kozák had been planning the shooting for a while. On his search history was research about mass killers, including the ‘Forest Killer’ a spree killer in Prague who killed 3 people. He had also researched the teaching schedules of classes on the fourth floor and downloaded the schools layout and other surrounding buildings. Lastly, he made note about the possible amount of students in each classroom.

Kozák had told multiple friends about his gun purchases, especially Alice whom he told about undergoing shooting practices and his plans to start exercising saying that he’ll need to lift heavy bags in 2-3 months. Kozák also received a gift of CZK 300,000 (13,000 USD) from his grandmother and withdrew CZK 400,000 (17,000 USD) from his savings account. Both of which he used to purchase ammunition and other related equipment.

On December 15th 2023, Kozák was believed to have murdered a 32-year-old man and his 2 month old daughter in the Klánovice forest. He was one of many suspects in the case but it has not been confirmed.

On December 21st 2023 Kozák murdered his father, Stanislav Kozák, at their home in Hostouň, accomplishing his ideas of murdering his parents. Kozák then drove to Faculty of Arts, Charles University. He entered the main building and began shooting at students and teachers, he killed 14 people and wounded 22 others. Kozák also fired at police and bystanders from the fourth floors balcony, like he had planned. The attack lasted 20 minutes before Kozák shot and killed himself on the balcony.

His (used) weapons were 9mm semiautomatic pistol (Klánovice forest) .380 ACP Škorpion semi automatic pistol (Hostouň) 9mm Glock 47 semiautomatic pistol, Sig Sauer semi automatic pistol (classrooms) .308 ZEV AR-10 semiautomatic rifle (balcony) and a 12 gauge Francolin Guardian pump action shotgun (suicide/balcony)

In the aftermath, Kozáks home was searched and there police found a letter confessing to the murders in the forest, as well as improvised explosives. In a post- Mortem examination Kozáks personality was found to be “schizoid with narcissistic and antisocial traits and a very solid IQ”. Police determined the motive was simply that he felt misunderstood and that the attack was revenge to society.

Grell Sutcliff Funko Pop 18 Kuroshitsuji Black Butler POP! Vinyl Anime Figure

Despite these hardships, we still hold onto hope, believing that your generous support can help us overcome these adversities. My grandfather is 85 years old. He lost his left hand due to a previous Israeli bombing and suffers greatly from this serious injury. But with the beginning of this war, I became unable to live my normal life. At least our warm house sheltered me and my family until it was bombed for the first time, that damned night. Our house has become like a ghost town. We continued to seek refuge from death there until we were besieged and displaced from our safety under fire to a tent (shelter) in the bitter cold of winter, with the lack of basic necessities of life (water pollution, high cost of living, disease, insect infestation, ‏malnutrition, ‏Difficulty of movement, overcrowding), and many other daily difficulties, especially with the significant increase in prices.

It’s been a year since “Israel” began waging cruel, unjust war on Gaza. We owe so much to Palestinians who’ve lost everything, their homes and livelihoods and essential needs. You’ve probably seen numerous posts asking for and encouraging donations — but I also understand many people don’t have much money to donate. So, that’s why I’m offering you all cute cards and deco toploaders you can get from donating!

Prices/minimum donation amounts are the same — 2 USD per photocard, 3 USD per toploader, and 0.50 USD per stand. You can donate more if you wish, though! ❤️‍🩹🍉

How To Purchase

DM me, either this blog or to my instagram @/vendemiaire_crafts, to begin an offer. Select which photocard(s) and/or toploader(s) you'd like to purchase (examples: toploader #7, Carlos Sainz photocard). Here's the list of which cards and toploaders are still available.

Make your donation to at least one of any of these fundraisers. Though as many Palestinians are trying to evacuate Gaza, I encourage making donations to individuals' and families' fundraisers I have boosted. Donations to multiple fundraisers are fine too, so long as it adds up to the minimum donation amount for your purchase! Then, once you've donated, send me proof via DMs. This can be as simple as a screenshot of your donation's confirmation. Also let me know which fundraiser(s) you've donated to so I can add onto it.

I'll then send you your purchase! Note that after you donate and send proof, I'll ask you for an address to mail to. For those worried about privacy, all private messages on this blog stay private. I will not release, share, or sell your address to anyone else, or use it for anything other than mailing your purchase to you. I live in the USA, but should be able to ship anywhere :-) your purchase will arrive as a letter in an envelope would.

I'll also donate double the amount of money in your donation to the same fundraiser(s) you gave to. For example, if you donated $5 for your purchase, I'll donate $10. If you'd like, I'll send you confirmation of my own donation via DMs.

Keep sharing Palestinians' stories. Amplify their voices. Talk to friends and relatives about the dire situation in Gaza and urge them to help too. I of course can't speak for the people affected by the war and constant uncertainty, life or death, I'm just a fellow in the States hoping to help even in a small way.

If you have the money available to, keep donating to fundraisers and relief efforts. If you don't, share links to these fundraisers with others, especially those who can donate. Our brothers, sisters, and nonbinary kin in Gaza need every bit of support they can get!

The ripple effect

So finally, it would seem the news from Hollywood are not good at all. A press release from SAG-AFTRA informs us that AMPTP/TPTB chose to drop the towel after a very long negotiation process (not a good sign, in my book), that continued even after their latest unacceptable offer, as you can read down below (https://x.com/sagaftra/status/1712368110253285730?s=20):

The mainstream media (always NYT, in this house) reported also on the studios' offer, which may or may not be helpful for understanding what exactly is at stake (https://www.nytimes.com/2023/10/12/business/media/actors-strike-talks-suspended.html?searchResultPosition=2):

Now that is a very hardball, completely insolent position. I am peeling my eyes in disbelief at the idea of offering 'further protections around the use of A.I.', when it was hoped that the use of A.I. would be treated as an exception, not as future reality the industry should work 'around'. This is what really is at stake, not the almost abusive allegation of 'unbearable economic burden' (that is a mafioso pretext) an 800 million USD yearly viewership bonus would supposedly entail. The real financial impact of such a compromise solution, as disclosed by SAG-AFTRA, is negligible: 'less than 57 cents/subscriber'.

And, to make things worse, it would seem the studios deliberately lied to the press, too (it would not be the first time - we shippers know it so well, eh?):

And that was the situation three weeks ago, when I found this article and promptly set it aside, waiting for the right moment to share it with you. And you know the situation is serious, when news like these are to be found not in the business, but in the real estate section of the newspaper. Along with this kind of comments, likely to suggest the possibility of unrest, if things go on like this:

People living in their flats without electricity or sleeping in their cars: it would seem this strike added unwanted insult to the drastic COVID injury in this particular sector of the labor market.

But what interested me the most about this whole affair was the ripple effect on the British film industry, in an attempt to see what is next for OL's Season 8. Thankfully, I didn't have to go very far and speculate more than the NYT did itself. Oh, and before Mordor starts shouting insanities, their LHR's correspondent paper, back in September, is called 'Hollywood Strikes Send a Chill Through Britain’s Film Industry' (https://www.nytimes.com/2023/09/19/business/hollywood-strikes-uk-filmmaking-industry.html):

Despite my unflappable optimism, I have to say that doesn't sound good at all, especially when you know this is precisely the case for OL, a production 'with stars who are SAG-AFTRA members' (or at least compelled to stand in solidarity with the strike, by SAG-AFTRA's own statement of conduct). I predict a very late start for the shooting of Season 8. And further unrest in the UK sector 'in the middle of next year' means that UK based and staffed productions may be fewer and less important, since that calendar announced by Equity could seriously compromise their promotion, a risk not many studios are willing to take. So less alternatives for both S&C, at least for the UK alone.

The writers' strike was a very long one - five months. I suppose the studios are willing to play for time and prefer a long stalemate of the negotiations with SAG-AFTRA, in the attempt of breaking the union consensus from the inside. With people's economies gone and the prospect of a dire, uncertain way ahead, there is no way SAG-AFTRA's compensations, mainly aimed at keeping people afloat with their rent costs, could cover the real impact on its members' everyday lives, on the long run. They would also prefer to foolishly cry over a fictitious 800 million USD 'burden' and not see the (at least) six times bigger negative impact on the local economy, which translates both in net losses of profit for thousands of businesses (mainly SMEs) and thousands of lost jobs.

And in the middle of all this, it would seem that Herself is on her way to the NYCC. Whatever for, sweet summer child, I would brazenly ask this strange, diminutive woman who started it all.
