Currently in Japan visiting friends and family, but of course had to pick up some records while over here! I will probably buy some more within the next few days, so will keep this page updated.
Unfortunately I don't have access to a CD or Record player as of right now, but I will when I return to England - I'll post each record individually with their respective details and ratings, as per usual. For now, I'll put some basic details below. (If you see any errors, please let me know!)

Bosq & Kaleta - No Be Today - 12 blasts of Afro-Latin disco from Colombia
After 10 years of globally celebrated but only occasional collaborations, Bosq & Kaleta have their first full length album together. On No Be Today the duo is finally able to stretch out and explore their wide range of influences and musical histories. The album seamlessly melds styles from West Africa & it’s diaspora, Caribbean & South American sounds most prominently, with Disco, Funk, Soul, Hip Hop & House. Live Horn sections mix with a blend of acoustic and electronic drums, Kaleta’s effortlessly funky guitar, Bosq’s layers of keyboards, bass & synthesizers, and heavily layered percussion sections that tug at your waistline. Kaleta’s virtuosic melody writing ties the pieces together with infectious chants and socially conscious lyrics that span Yoruba, French, Goun, Fon & English. Kaleta, having played in the bands of both Juju music great King Sunny Ade & Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, brings the first hand experience and authenticity seldom found in todays West African influenced fusions. Bosq, now on his 6th full length album, brings a 20 year run experimenting with updating vintage sounds in the most tasteful way possible, melding Disco & Funk with styles from around the globe. In that time he’s worked on adding his touch to records by Ray Barretto, Orchestre Poly Rhythmo de Cotonou, Toure Kunda, Poolside, Rawayana & more. The record is an ode to these musical histories, with the title No Be Today coming from a Nigerian saying, which explains that this did not just start and this did not happen by chance, there’s lifetimes of work behind this. It’s also a flag planted for a different way of doing things as technology makes the “perfect” & “clean” sound easier and easier to obtain, with AI art slapped on the front. This record is handmade, full of love and feeling, from the music to the incredible art by Brazilian muralist Amanda Lobos that graces the gatefold vinyl. The statement made by this record is that we should still take our time and delve deeply into projects with our whole soul.  Marco Fajardo - Sax (2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9) Jose Miguel Vega - Trombone (2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9) Leon Pardo - Trumpet (2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9) Andres “Bongie” Giraldo - Timbales (4) FLORENTIN KOUDJOU - Trombone (1, 4) TCHANVOEDOU PARFAIT TADAGBÉ - Trumpet (1, 4) ANICET HOUNDONOUGBO - BARI SAX(1, 4) Erlyn Correa - Bass (1, 2, 3, 10) Yuki Kanesaka - Keys, Synths, Organ (2, 4) Wilton Bravo Tascon “El Towii” - Congas (1, 2, 3, 7) Luis Miguel “Papinm” Guerrero - Marimba (3, 11) Hemmy Shout - Trumpet (10) NOAH DREIBLATT - Tenor & Bari Sax (10) Thank you Josephine Ikudehinbu & Salomon Fassinou OROBIYI MOTUNRAYO ABIODUN - Backing Vocals (2, 10) Daniel Biodun - Backing Vocals (10) HORNS RECORDED AT OZANA TRINITE IN COTONOU, BENIN (1, 4) HORNS RECORD AT MAMBO NEGRO RECORDS, BOGOTA (2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9) All songs mixed & mastered by Caserta

MTV VMAs 2023:
The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards celebrated the past and embraced the future in a memorable ceremony. The event honored pop icons Shakira and Diddy for their significant contributions to the music world and paid tribute to the rich 50-year history of hip-hop. It also showcased emerging artists from around the globe.
Shakira was the recipient of the prestigious Video Vanguard Award, and her performance covered her illustrious career, highlighting the evolution of Latin pop music. This was a fitting choice for an awards show that introduced Colombian reggaeton sensation Karol G and Peso Pluma, a talented 24-year-old artist from Guadalajara, Mexico, whose music blends regional Mexican, reggaeton, and hip-hop influences from his upbringing.
The VMAs also showcased diverse international genres, including the thriving Afrobeats from West Africa and the global sensation of K-pop. Nigerian singer Rema and Selena Gomez were honored with the first-ever Afrobeats award for their hit “Calm Down,” which recently achieved a remarkable billion streams on Spotify. South Korean boy band Tomorrow X Together and Brazilian pop star Anitta presented their new collaboration, “Back for More.”
Additionally, the event featured special appearances by ‘N Sync, Ashanti, Timbaland, and Nelly Furtado.

22 From 2022
Tumblr media
It's 2023 already and 2022 seemed to go by in a flash. Take a look back at some of the best albums of 2022.
Tumblr media
Beyoncé- Renaissance
Beyonce's Renaissance did the unexpected by putting house music back into the American mainstream.  The singer's late gay uncle Johnny was the main inspiration and the album cover's reference to Bianca Jagger's famous horse ride at New York City's Paradise Garage set the tone. The foundation of house music was represented with veterans like Honey Dijon and Green Velvet but the current Afrobeats sound was also present. The album received nine Grammy nominations but longtime fans really want to know if it will win Album of the Year.
Tumblr media
Lizzo- Special
Lizzo's feel-good mix of disco, R&B, funk and hip-hop was bright and sounded like a yearlong summer.  Cuz I Love You was such a big deal that some people wondered if her fourth album would be just as good. Special was inspired by self-care, sisterhood and relationships. The album was led-by single "About Damn Time" that had Nile Rodgers & Chic written all over it. Lizzo's proud acknowledgement of  '70s and '80s dance music was heard throughout the album that killed any worries about her ability to have another impactful album.
Tumblr media
Steve Lacy-Gemini Rights
Lacy's Gemini Rights is the moment he became mainstream official thanks to his TikTok hit "Bad Habit." But his obvious Prince influence and wicked abilities produced a whole album of singable ditties for the ages. The pliable falsetto, swift guitar, pure lyrics and Rick James-inspired look got Lacy ready for stardom. The brilliance he demonstrated on his 2017 demo grew and hit a critical mass and now there are many more eyes and ears curious about his next output.
Tumblr media
Jazmine Sullivan-Heaux Tales, Mo'Tales: The Deluxe
Jazmine Sullivan's Heaux Tales was updated with 10 more songs added to the original album. The conceptual EP  about Black women's relationships and sexual autonomy resonated with fans and snared a Grammy for Best R&B album in 2022. The deluxe edition gave more women a chance to tell their tale and Sullivan's fiery but raspy tone expanded space to emote.  Ari Lennox, anderson.paak and H.E.R. are on the original and Issa Rae is a guest on the newer version.
Tumblr media
Danger Mouse and Black Thought's Cheat Codes collaboration sounded like the equivalent of a rap LSD trip. Black Thought's words flowed over funky blues riffs, Western film themes, '60s rock and lazy jazz licks. Guests included Joey Bada$$, Run The Jewels, ASAP Rocky, Raekwon and Michael Kiwanuka. A posthumous contribution from MF DOOM on "Belize" was a surprise made eerie by Danger Mouse's choice of somber horns in the background.
See the rest of the list.

Staying Updated on Spotify’s Number 1 Artist
Music lovers worldwide flock to Spotify for its vast collection of songs, playlists, and the real-time tracking of music trends. Among its most engaging features is the ability to discover the number 1 artist on Spotify today, a ranking that constantly shifts based on streaming data. These updates not only keep fans informed but also reveal cultural trends, seasonal preferences, and the rise of new talent.
This article will explore how Spotify determines its top artist, why the rankings matter, and how you can stay updated with real-time data. Along the way, we’ll dive into related insights, like the most popular artist in the world, seasonal hits, and how platforms like Wrapped enrich the listening experience.
How Spotify Ranks Its Artists
Spotify’s ranking system is powered by streaming metrics, reflecting the most played and popular songs on its platform. But how exactly is the number 1 artist on Spotify today determined?
Streams: The total number of plays an artist’s songs receive.
Listener Count: The unique number of people streaming the artist’s tracks.
Engagement: Metrics like playlist additions, shares, and saves contribute to an artist’s popularity.
Global Reach: Spotify’s vast user base across 184 countries ensures rankings represent global trends.
For real-time data, check Spotify’s Top Artists section or third-party tools that aggregate Spotify data. Staying updated allows you to discover who’s dominating the charts—whether it’s a household name or a breakout artist.
Seasonal Trends in Spotify Rankings
Music trends are often influenced by time of year, cultural events, or viral moments. This makes the top artist ranking a dynamic reflection of the current music landscape.
Holiday Season: Artists like Mariah Carey and Michael Bublé surge during December as people stream festive classics. Tracks like All I Want for Christmas Is You turn Carey into the number 1 artist on Spotify today during the holidays.
Summer Hits: During the summer months, upbeat tracks from artists like Bad Bunny and Dua Lipa dominate as listeners curate poolside playlists.
Award Season Influence: Winners of the Grammys or MTV Music Awards often see a spike in streams, catapulting them to the top of Spotify’s charts.
These trends highlight the influence of cultural events on music consumption.
Who Is Dominating the Charts Right Now?
The question of who the number 1 artist on Spotify today is depends on ever-changing factors. However, some artists consistently dominate the rankings:
Taylor Swift: Known for her fan loyalty and prolific catalog, Swift often tops Spotify’s charts after album releases or re-releases.
The Weeknd: With hit albums like After Hours and viral tracks like Blinding Lights, he frequently occupies the top spot.
Bad Bunny: As a global reggaeton sensation, Bad Bunny’s music transcends language barriers, making him a regular at the top of Spotify rankings.
