Hey, sorry I haven't been doing my daily outfit posts lately-- I guess I never mentioned why I started them, but it's this personal project that I'm working on where I take a picture (though, in all honesty, it's a lot of pictures lol) in whatever I'm wearing and I feature my cane to promote awareness and give representation to other cane users and members of the cpunk and Physically Disabled community. I'm working on building up the courage to take these pictures outside as well, because I do them on campus, but we deserve to see ourselves outside as well!

The reason I haven't been keeping up with it is because my partner and I have really been really struggling financially as well as with our mental health (and me with my physical health as well, obviously lol) we moved across the country to go to school and it is So Hard-- I had to drop three out of five of my classes because the course work was just too much in volume and I need a job really bad (which is going to be Hard to do since we don't even know why I'm in such chronic pain yet 🙃 it's hard not to feel defeated!)

Either way, I think going to start posting them with the tag #TheVainCanes and #MobilityAidVainity but I'm also going to host a poll for some options bc I want this to be a widespread community thing!

I'm choosing these names because I've seen from both ableds and disabled elitists this idea that we and our mobility aides need to look like they're fresh out the hospital for us to be Believed and deserving of respect, and anything beyond that voids our suffering and invalidates our experiences-- and I think that's reductive, harmful, and just plain wrong! Our mobility aides are an extension of ourselves and we deserve to dress them up however we want. We deserve representation, and the normalization of Joy and Having Personality While Disabled.

This will be intersectional as well (bc. I mean look at me. Also I don't need a reason!) , people from all identities are welcomed and encouraged to join! This is meant to be a celebration of Us, Disabled, BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S+, and All That Jazz! (If you use a mobility aid, you're in!) We're beautiful gorgeous handsome devils and I think we'd do good seeing how good we all look in a designated tag

To kick things off, I am a 2S, Afroindigenous person (Gullah and Kanien'kehá:ka!) who experiences chronic pain and fatigue. I have PTSD and a few other brain things going on, less than perfect eyesight, and a great passion for Art, Music, Subculture, and Helping Others whenever and however I can! I'm majoring in art and am working towards becoming a published graphic novelist. Idk I just have a lot of love and support to give, and a big need for love and support for myself as well, and I'm hoping to offer us a good opportunity for us to connect in a space that's just for us! We're already living outside of society's expectations for health, so why should we let these folks decide the way we look while doing it? Express yourself! Released in 2022, Strange World is thematically aligned with Solarpunk values. And while its Disney origins do have a certain greenwashing aftertaste, its keen interest in systemic change (rather than individual action) and its acknowledgment of Solarpunk’s debt to indigenous and afro- future-proofing is noteworthy.

Is Strange World an on-the-nose allegory? Yeah. But there’s also an argument to be made that its Solarpunk message has more bite than what the rest of climate has been slinging for decades.

What does solarpunk get you that afro futurism or indigenous futurism doesn't? If you do believe that producing art within a specific fictional aesthetic mode is "important" or has a material output on the real world, why not at least pick a movement that speaks to the material conditions that have produced inequity in the real world? Does your utopian vision address the ways hegemonic colonial imperialism has produced the conditions for many of the most dystopian conditions people in the real world currently live under? Is it even utopian if it doesn't?

Can you recommend a (few maybe) good books about the environment/solar punk fantasy ish novels?✨🌿

Hello! I’ve found a couple of books I think you’ll like.

First is “The Summer Prince” by Alaya Dawn Johnson. This book has some great Afro and Amazofuturism themes. Two artists named June and Enki fall in love and use their art as a form of rebellion against a government trying to limit access to technology.

The second one I found is “Foxhunt” by Rem Wigmore. In an improved future, the protagonist Orfeus is mistaken as an energy criminal and is being hunted by The Order of the Vengeful Wild. This book has great solarpunk and LGBTQIA+ themes and representation.

yesterday while I was stuck in the car I read “the splinter in the sky” by kemi ashing-giwa. it’s about a woman from an Afro-futurist solarpunk space colony who agrees to become a political prisoner in the empire that recently annexed her colony in order to find the truth behind the attacks on her sibling and girlfriend. it’s very overtly about colonization with people calling her a savage and assuming she’s stupid and lustful and even referencing Haiti reparations. always good to read a scifi novel about queer people of color and how bad it is to colonize people

but I feel like the point is kind of undercut by the fact that the love interest is the god-emperor (female) of the empire that colonized the main characters planet. it turns out the god-emperor is just a figurehead and doesn’t have much love for the empire but still. I think it’s wild to make the emperor the sympathetic love interest in your anti-colonial novel. like memory called empire is a scifi novel about colonialism where the love interest is a fairly minor diplomat from the empire and that’s already a huge wedge in their relationship

Punk Percy Jackson headcanons but by an actual punk instead of someone who thinks skateboarding is an aesthetic

A remaster of an old post now that i've learned even more about how to be punk!!Posted for @sillycathorrors who when i asked if he wanted me to through with this post since i was debating wether to or not said yes♡This will include my Pjo s/i named Lex de los Santos so if that'll bother you,just don't read this and reminder that punk Percy is actually canon as per his writings so this is just letting him fully participate in the subculture!!

Percy is afrosolarpunk because he's monoracial black but multietchnic(american/dominican/greek)and the son of Poseidon so he's naturally deeply caring about enviormentalism and drawn to nature based aesthetics(and people,as seen by Lex being a Demeter kid)

He got into solarpunk because of Sally.She'd take him to the beach every other weekend to clean the beach with a group of her friends(and end each trip with lunch at the beach)

Thalia was his first real experience with the subculture head on and that's a huge reason he admired her so much and was lowkey jealous of her along with a bit of gender envy

Knows how to diy things that don't even exist(i'm sorry i'll never stop making this Percy joke,it's literally so fitting)

Straightedge(Smelly Gabe trauma)

Transfem bigender and uses any pronouns + a bunch of neos and was on estrogen but for a short amount of time compared to full transitions.Autistic too and that's a huge reason he's punk,both because of facing ableism and autism giving him punk personality traits

Rachel,Lex and him are 'The Loser Trio',a nickname they got at Goode High they reclaimed for themselves,and Rachel is canonically punk like him since she's an activist and a huge weirdo(affectionate).Rachel is also nigerian yoruba and afrosolarpunk like Perce and Lex with Lex being pastel punk and blasian too(chinese-dominican/black-greek)so they all go to protests/riots and do charity/activism together starting all the way back to freshman year and Rachel uses Mr Dare's money to give reperations and buy gifts for her besties(from punk bussinesses ofc,otherwise what's the point?)

Intentionally travels via Blackjack,foot,Argo ||,etc so as to minimize fossil fuel usage,taught Rachel how to properly dispose of her paint water,teaches younger campers how to mend and alter their clothes so they last longer and attends mosh pits and underground parties on the regular with Lex on his arm and Nico and Hazel following behind

His favorite musicians are Mcr,Teezo Touchdown,Megan Thee Stallion,The Cure,The Misfits,Alt Black Era,Direct Hit!,Meet Me @ The Altar and Korn.Some of these aren't punk but punk is black so ofc he listens to rap and also blues and Lo-Fi Beats courtesy of LFB enthutiast Hazel!!He's a guitarist himself because Lex taught him how to play as they used to take lessons as a kid and gifted him for his 19th birthday,a sea blue diy'd guitar stacked with stickers they knew he'd love

He's 6'4 by the end of Tods and his hairstyles per book were:Baby dreads(TLT),wicks(TTC),twists(TLO),afro for most of SON because he didn't remember what he styles he likes but gives himself dreads with muscle memory by the end,makes sea material based beads for them in MOA and his hair is so long by the beginning of Tods he switches to locs

Shark kin and catkin,specifically whale shark and calico cat(who're 99% female,tgirl Percy is her canon event).Lex is calico cat kin too for them soulmateisms and they discovered they're therians together by looking stuff up online together on Lex's bed at the dead of night and kept it a little them secret they provided tons of validation for too.Lex is also dragonkin,ghostkin and plantkin!

Percabeth is a cautionary tale to abuse survivors and intellectually disabled people about cutting off toxic normies.Lex hadn't seen much of Percy's relathionship with Annabeth until Hoo when the Eight Half-Bloods Shall Awnser The Call prophecy was spoken and it was inbetween then and Percy going missing that they learned the full details as reluctant camp co-leaders with her and realized she's abusive to her,planning to tell Percy when the time was right.The time turned out to be the MOA pre-climax when they were discussing everything that had happened over the years and Percy had a pit in his stomach as Lex and Hazel fell into their own pit afterwards too-That is to say,Tartarus.Hazel gets to unlock her true powers down there,as the Princess of The Underworld and The Unknown,and Lex does their best to care for and protect both of them while up on the surface Percy still hasn't broken up with Annabeth because too much was happening but the last straw is when she insulted Lex out of jealousy and she's so angry she dumps her on the spot and walks away despite it being the middle of a meeting.She also got the Hecate Mist storyline and no Nico relathionship retcon as symbolism/motifs for her finally making her own choices,including Lex,who she only didn't earlier because he didn't think he was allowed to

This follows up to Tales of Dead Seas,a year later Hoo sequel.The plot kickerstarter is Percy killing Zeus in a fit of rage and thus causing the greco-roman mythos world revolution Luke lied about wanting to do like the fascist he was,Luke also having been killed by Percy at the end of Pjo.The other mytho beings that're 'lesser' on the system than the gods gladly followed her and did their own things too and the mcs are Percy,Lex,Nico and Hazel in the four books of the last Percyverse series.'Elysium on Earth','Petallic','Arcane Rot' and 'Unmythologizable' are the titles in order,Sally opens up a family bussiness under 'Familia Jackson Beach Shack' in it and it chronicles Perlex's dating dynamic and Nico and Hazel as teens over the course of 4 years for that og Pjo throwback,including the chapter titles and the return of Rachel as an mc who basically lives at La Residencia Jackson at this point

Lex cracked Percy's egg via starting to date her with their own transmasc genderfluid and bigender but super femme identity making it kinda impossible for it to not happen and ofc she came out to them first and they showered her in affection,lended clothes that were too small on her she refused to not wear anyway and diy'd estrogen by their boygirlfriend.Percy's mermaidcore hair dye was spurred on by her transfeminism and Lex did it for her in an intimate moment as she nervously gripped their waist out of dysphoria she'd look ridicilous and they talked her down and kissed her face to help.Lex dyed their hair too in the final chapter of BOO,their bangs forest green as a self-love metaphor for their completed character development arc

Also Lex is a DC Comics fan and has Jason Todd as their favorite Robin and a crush on him so they told Percy she's a lot like him as a compliment and she got super offended,hand over her heart and everything,because she thinks Jason sucks(denial isn't just in The Kane Chronicles i see)

Lex is the Team Mom to Percy's Team Dad when it comes to Nico and Hazel and befriended Nico in TTC too as his 'new older sister' by their offer when they found him crying over Bianca after meeting him briefly when Percy was showing him around and Hazel first thing they met in MOA as Hazel approached them onsight by recognizing them from Percy's talks of Lex,her not remembering anything except Sally at the start but Lex slowly came back to her when she eat a Camp Jupiter strawberry and noticed it didn't taste quite 'the same',sadness she didn't understand washing over her.Cute lil black punk found family sitch and Sally is the gilf-I mean abuela

It's like, a biker gang, IF a biker gang were basically a group of street medics/nurses, construction workers, and varied laborers and carers riding around dancing and partying and hooting and hollering while offering all kinds of immediate no-strings-whatsoever free assistance to all their fellow city residents and visitors all day.

o.o Oh, and they're mostly comprised of disabled and mentally-ill folk...so, there's a heavy "cripple punk" flavor to them....i-it's this whole thing that, I just, I love it so much. 😂 Music gives me too many fun ideas to keep up with!

It is NOT a good relationship. In fact, it has been abusive and neglectful for over a decade, to the point of ruining my life and about 99.999999% of my opportunities, when I was already in a precarious position from a fucked up childhood to begin with...

The thing about that is, abusive people and families have a way of making SURE, that, either financially or physically(i.e. medically) or both -- via sabotage, weaponized incompetence, flat out lies, all sorts of things -- you get put into a corner where you can't leave and can't make any moves...so, as much as I'm starving to leave, I'm in no position to.

Current obsession(s):

Casual stuff -- DND, music. Games: Fields of Mistria and Pacific Drive (let's plays for winding down, cause I don't personally have anything to ACTUALLY play the games on 😅).

IRL Goals --

Goal 1: Trying to figure out how to commission art for a children's book *without* cheating the artist out of the kind of funds they SHOULD get (as opposed to the funds I actually HAVE 😅😅😅)...may well be a pipe dream.

Goal 2: Wondering if I could use a family resource I've suddenly been given access to (🤯unintelligible squeaks of disbelief🤯), to create a private space where I can go to finally rest once in a while from my miserable home life and focus on rebuilding my health and my writing...it would probably take a GoFundMe and a ton of planning and some time...but it might mean that I get to do SOMETHING with my life that actually makes sense to me before all is said and done...

Best case scenario? If I can get the right materials and plan together, I could even plant a food forest nearby! 😳😭❤️‍🩹❤️‍🔥✨ And that could provide a way for me to subsist on very little money...and then I could offer excess produce to pretty much anyone in need!

....And I've been wondering if maybe these two IRL goals could be combined. (⁠・°・)⁠ゞ

Like, maybe I could offer the children's book for free online, but any DONATIONS the book draws would get split 50/50 between the artist and me.

And then, whatever I get for my share, I could save towards building that private space that would make both my fucked up home life more bearable, and my creative work more... *possible*. .-.;;; )

Some other influential Solarpunk media to get an idea of genre aesthetics and interpretations. As seen here, there is no one clear visual point of unison. The themes of Solarpunk are conveyed more clearly through the story of these pieces. The oldest of these, Nausiccaä of the Valley of the Wind, is famously directed by a staunchly anti-war creator; Hayao Miyazaki. Black Panther focuses on the decolonisation of energy and power dynamics (although one could make the case that this draws more from Afro-futurism than Solarpunk). Sunvault and The Dispossessed create worlds that are more focused on a technological interpretation of the genre. However, they all share the vision of an idyllic future based upon the principles of renewable energy, community and social justice.

Just removed Discord from my work phone for a bit, I want to focus on myself and I use that app a lot to try to branch out.

In the meantime, I'm going to focus more on Afro-futurism, Science, Solarpunk, Sci-Fi Futures and all the other nerdy black things that have been repressed all these years
