A collection of portraits of Maasai who are transitioning from Pastoralism to Settled Agricultural practices. There are all participants from an area west of Arusha – attending the “Jali Ardhi” Workshops, a study of soil erosion in the Rift Valley enabled by Plymouth University. Their land is being decimated by extreme soil erosion due to climate change and other factors. My job is to document the study for the next 6 years.

The time has come to tell you the story of Africa. Or actually the story of how I fell in love with Africa. - It's not the most beautiful story, because it started with my ignorance. That dear thing that we carry sometimes within us without being aware of it. I have pretty much traveled my whole life, but never really to Africa. So when I was asked in 2009 if I would like to be one of the 4 exchange students flying down to South Africa my face turned into a rather nasty expression and I asked: Why would I do that?! - I was always really fascinated with Asia and the philosophies of the different cultures. And being a vegetarian it has been also quite a culinary experience for me to travel to Asia. Africa in my mind didn't have to offer very much. - Boy was I mistaken. Because thankfully I did agree and went first to South Africa for 6 months and continued to travel through the rest of Southern Africa for a couple of months. But that was just the beginning of my journey. Innocence || During my March 2017 safari, we visited the Molibany Primary School in Talek, Kenya. This little girl held my hand the entire time we were in the final classroom. In that classroom, the students sadly did not have desks and had to sit on a concrete floor. Since that day, I have thought about this little girl quite often. The love, innocence, and excitement she exuded still strikes me all these months later. I know that this not technically the best picture being that it's not exactly in focus as I would like 😳 Plus, every time I tried to take a photo of her, she started waving wildly which was charming. But since I keep thinking about our school visit and particularly of this little girl, I decided to post the best picture that I have of her.
