I finally got around to making some videos again, and it feels pretty nice actually. Four years straight of serious operations, organ loss, illness, etc etc aren't over yet, but perhaps I can see an end.

Regardless, I went through 1999's Kingpin: Life of Crime by request of a commenter. Aesthetically it's quite bland considering the primary palette is brown with some gray occasionally; there are a few bright spots--like the last levels--but everything comes together to present a bleary, dreary, and rather depressing product.

In terms of gameplay it's an early Quake/id Tech engine showing through and through. Standard lineups of weapons, standard varieties of enemies. One major complaint I have is that [on the middle difficulty] enemies are colossal bullet sponges; towards the later bits, regular thugs can facetank half a dozen rockets. They balanced this by having very few enemies per level, but in my opinion it was awkward and frustrating.

Also, Kingpin somehow combines Italian Mafia with Black Street Gangs and 1920s Art Deco...while blasting hip hop music. It's a confused game for certain and naturally it was the developer's final project--they shuttered the day the game went on sale.

This is just a super quick summary but . . .

I just can't stop thinking how sometimes my black x reader/oc wonder about how some people may view her appearance. I mean, it's early 2000's in Kansas Smallville and she chooses dreadlocks (crochet), twists, natural fro's, braids & styles over straight hair. She rarely wears its straight, and even if she do, it's usually kept in a tight low bun. Beauty standards lean to thinner physiques and well she is a little thicker and curvaceous in comparison to some of her peers. Her face is round, eyes dreamy and sweet, and she don't wear foundation/powder often because it irritates her skin. She has a quiet confidence about herself, yet sometimes struggle with her features sometimes. She don't go out the way to draw too much attention to herself because she can get a bit flustered pretty easily with praise and compliments, not that she don't like it but is it really deserving? She has some of these doubts but then this new dude struts into town, Lex Luthor, whom everyone despise cause he's Lionel's son, lays his eyes on her for the first time at the farmers market (he actually first saw her working at Nell's flower Boutique for a split second) the morning light of sunrise pours over her face and he is just struck by her beauty that he goes over to buy some of her produce as an excuse to make attempts at flirting a bit. Too bad it's one-sided though, but at the same time she treats him with kindness and doesn't seem to judge him like the rest of the townsfolk. Maybe he can get her to warm up to him. He just became friends with Clark Kent, he could have another 'friend', right?
