Destined With You Theory Post
A screenshot of blog post Hong Jo was reading in the earlier episodes.
Tumblr media
I'll try to summarize as best as I can...
Basically the blog post Hong Jo was reading describes a dark and mysterious tale from the Joseon era:
It begins by hinting at a curse in the palace, raising questions about whether curses are real and if it started with someone called Aeng Cho. Aeng Cho seems to be the central figure in these events.
A quote from Hyojong Shillok on February 20th, Year 3 of King Hyojong's reign mentions that Aeng Cho is a shaman and she had secretive connections with Lady Yoon. The details surrounding her actions are described as eerie and secretive.
Lady Yoon, a consort, comissioned servants to collect various remains from the deceased, including skulls, hands, feet, teeth, hair, flesh and even items related to tombs. She gathered these items secretly and buried them beneath the ground where the king walked during the night.
The purpose of gathering these items was to curse the one who ascended to the throne, plotting to end the king's life by collecting the necessary materials for the curse.
Aeng Cho, who wrote the book on divination and magic, was known for her proficiency in various forms of sorcery. Lady Yoon learned curse spells from Aeng Cho, aiming to end the king's life.
According to my previous theory if Lady Yoon is Yoon Na Yeon's ancestor then her family is definitely heavily involved in shamanism/black magic even today and would know how to cast a curse from the knowledge being passed down from Lady Yoon, their ancestor, who learned it directly from Aeng Cho. So Aeng Cho wasn't the only one who knows about the book of curses. Lady Yoon knows it too.

Something that is bugging me for days, just when did Mujin have kids? Wasnt he supposed to die during the wanning crescent moon or something like that which may be soon after aengcho died??
Or did he have siblings and that cursed passed onto them?

Trying to watch some other shows while I wait for the last two episodes of dwy, and every time there’s a hospital scene or a stabbing, all I can see is Hong-jo screaming Sin-yu’s name while sobbing, and it makes me want to start crying even if the scene in whatever I’m watching is supposed to be happy.

Jo bo ah should just always be in seguk dramas, first I. The tale of the nine tailed she was amazing in the past life scenes. Now in destined with you? Fabulous. She did so well I want to see just a whole 16 episodes of aeng cho and munjin just so I could watch her. I'm so happy she is coming out with a drama with lee Jae work cause damn imagine the power they will wield.

Why Mu-jin made a surprise appearance in the finale:
So, this whole scene unfolds after Aeng-cho's death. It's one of the spell books she has written. The one Mu-jin is holding is named "Spell of the Heavens." Now, for clarity—it's the exact same book Hongjo retrieves from that wooden box. Go back to episode 3, and you'll notice Hongjo holding it to perform the "cure disease spell," straight from this very book that Mu-jin has in the final scene.
Let's rewind further to episode 3, where Hongjo and SinYu are wrestling over this spell book in her living room. Mu-jin had this intention—he wanted that book to end up in Aeng-cho's future self's hands. It was meant to bring their destinies together.
Fast forward to the final scene, and Mu-jin has the wooden box open. He takes a few steps forward, glances back, and eventually becomes the one responsible for burying it, ensuring its discovery later on.

Aeng Cho said, “Whoever kills me will be cursed.” in such a way that it was a reminder for Mujin; like they had discussed about this a thousand time before with the way Mujin looked so devastated after stabbing her.
My guess is that, Mujin knew about this but had to do it; unless she did something unforgivingly terrible, I would want to believe he was probably under a spell, or he was probably being lied to about Aeng Cho. She was powerful after all. And this is where the gardener plot will come in.
He loved her.
Thus, it made sense that he instructed for the shrine to be left alone. Not because of the curse; but because he felt endlessly sorry that he had to kill her. The shrine was the only reminder that he had to remember her.
I don’t want to speculate whether this will have a happy or sad ending for Shinyu and Hongjo. I am afraid for them so I hope Shinyu will be strong to convince Hongjo that they should focus on the now instead of the past.

destined with you really had me going 🔪🔪🔪 with the obligatory third act breakup/separation plot but I actually did not expect to get so emotional watching their past life plot 😭
I've seen quite a few shows where we're given a peek into someone's past life or our fantasy lead's romance cut short by destiny but woah watching past life Jang Sinyu breakdown as past life Hong Joo dies in his arms was so heartbreaking 😭✋ (had to take a full breath)
him immediately bawling and telling her his reasons and her looking at him tenderly !!!
also bless Rowoon and Jo Bo Ah because it was so real to me !!!! (generally when characters are dying in tv shows, the other one just go 👁️👄👁️) idk I felt this one badddddd
glad to know we get lots of fluff soon!
(side note, they really were on our lil past life shaman aeng cho's neck MY GOD she did not catch a break since we saw her in that cart and even there she barely escaped death 😭😭😭)

I have a theory about Destined With You that I wanted to share.
It's about the garden guy. I think that in the past life, he was something like fiancé, husband (of course if it happened, it was totally forced) of Aeng-cho (Hong-jo). Because he said that his deceased wife was very similar to Hong-jo, and he has been obsessed with her ever since he appeared.
I think he can also remember past lives and he knows about the curses because he was "with" Aeng-cho for a moment and must have seen the book and memorized the curses(or must have found the book for a moment, either before Shin-yu find the box with the spell book, or because he broke into Hong-jo's house), so he knows them very well. Of course, at the same time that this makes a lot of sense in my head, I also think it's crazy, because if in her past life she was going to marry someone, why would be this man?

My 'Destined With You' Prediction/Theory
I posted this on MyDramaList and Reddit. Let's me share my theory here as well.
Ya'll I think there's more to the story than we think. Right now it's confusing because we're just seeing and being shown the surface. The show is definitely holding back some details and information on purpose. But I'm pretty sure we'll be diving in deeper next week once the past life's story is introduced and we'll be able to see the mystery being revealed layer by layer. Now that we know the existence of the 'black magic/curse' book, i have a feeling that there's another copy of it out there and someone is holding on to it and using it (the voodoo which Shin Yu and Hong Jo discovered) and its someone who knows the existence and location of the shrine. Apparently that voodoo was used to cut off the ties between two people (which in this case is Hong Jo and Shin Yu). I read this in a Korean community post. I just think there's a reason why Shin Yu seems almost stupidly loyal to Na Yeon. It just doesn't feel right. He doesn't seem to be emotionally in love with her but yet he's being stupidly loyal to her for no reason. Despite being told multiple times that what he's doing is wrong, he always seem to disregard it (as if breaking up is never an option he could consider). Almost feels like there's a unexplainable force that's constantly holding him back when it comes to Na Yeon. He seem to always put her up on this weird pedestal. Him believing that she doesn't have any faults even when its being presented that she's somehow involved in Hong Jo being transferred  (+ even when Hong Jo specifically said that Na Yeon slapped her, he completely dismissed it), finding her to be matchless/incomparable to other women even when he's obviously attracted to another and pushing the attention he received from others whenever they're together towards her to boost up her ego even when the attention was obviously on him and not her. He acts really differently when it comes to her too. He just doesn't act like his usual self, he acts weak when he's with her. Kinda like a puppet. & he was acting this way even before the whole 'love potion' confusion. Also the whole voodoo thing happened after Hong Jo met Na Yeon to tell her everything (about the use of spell) . BUT SUSPICIOUSLY, we didn't get to see her reaction... Now that feels rather on purpose. Why would they leave that out? Hmm. Now I'm really suspicious. What if Na Yeon is the one with a copy? Maybe her family is involved with shamans too. & she used one of the spells to 'seduce' Shin Yu two years ago. Its weird because he just seems so uninterested but felt compelled to tolerate her for some reason. He wanted to break up but couldn't even be firm about it. It just feel weird to me because that's not how he is to everyone else. He's only like that towards her. I feel like it could be an outcome of black magic being used on him. Apparently, from the historical records which we saw Shin Yu googling from the earlier episodes, there a 'Lady Yoon' mentioned that was involved with the death of Aeng Cho(which I believe is Hong Jo's past life). If Na Yeon is not the reincarnation of Lady Yoon then she is most definitely a descendent which would explain how she possibly would have a copy of the black magic book. The question is if it's Na Yeon, how is she able to obtain Hong Jo's PJs? I think the stalker is definitely working for Na Yeon and the stalker is the one that stole Hong Jo's pjs. She may lie that she received the photos from an unknown number but the stalker definitely knows her well enough to be able to, firstly, recognize Shin Yu as her boyfriend, and secondly, knows her phone number in order to send her those photos. Also I'm pretty sure she would know where the Jang family shrine is since she's been with him for 2 years and hangs out with his family. This is just a theory so just take it with a grain of salt.
In my opinion, this theory will also help to make Shin Yu more redeemable. Because as of now, his character is a red flag but notice how he's only becomes a red flag when it involves Na Yeon? What if he was blindsided by black magic and the root cause of it has been Na Yeon all along?

Spoilers for ep 12
Yep. I had an inkling that Aeng Cho was cursed first and the only way for him to break the curse was to kill her. What is so heartbreakingly tragic is that Mu Jin knew he was going to get cursed but he did it anyway to free her. The gardener was probably also there in the past life and cursed Aeng Cho.
My god they’re going to go down the noble idiot route and say that they can’t be together instead of wanting to break the curse together. We have only 4 eps left!! I just wished this was shown in maybe ep 6 rather than ep 12. 😩

But how did we get from wanting to marry her to stabbing her in the snow??!?! HOW
(I have a very bad feeling that Aeng-cho was intended to be a ritual sacrifice)

Mujin and Aeng Cho deserved better.
Mujin at least gets birth as this smartass. But Aeng Cho, treated lesser than human in that life, treated unfair as Hong Jo. Can this girl catch a break???
Jaeyoung...you....you jerk. Idk what his name is in the past life.
The creepy gardener is also there. Someone stab him please.
