A Summary of Every ASOIAF RP Character I Have Ever Made

first rp:

Aeryn Targaryen - her father is Maenar Targaryen, son of Maegor Targaryen (this is an AU where Maegor never revolts against Aenys and eventually marries and has a child). her mother is a Toland. deeply antisocial, unpleasant, religious zealot to cope with the trauma of her emotionally abusive father, detached mother, and equally dysfunctional brothers.

oldest brother Gael is horrifically scarred by greyscale at a young age and forced to join the Kingsguard by their father. middle brother Viserys is completely deranged and makes her life a living hell. dreams of becoming a septa, deeply uncomfortable with the gender roles imposed on her, dresses in multiple layers at all times, crops her hair short, probably binds her chest. accidentally claims the dragon Quicksilver in the chaos after King Aenys' death.

Vaella Targaryen - product of an unhappy brother-sister marriage. disabled at a young age due to chronic illness and pain. arranged to marry Lord Maric Baratheon (same AU that Aeryn exists in) and has a surprisingly happy, devoted marriage despite a lack of heirs. rides the dragon Seafoam (basically AU Seasmoke). encourages her younger sister Shaena to try to train at swordplay as a means of vicariously living through her. desperately wants the Iron Throne, as Aenys has no living sons or grandsons at the time of his death, and she is his eldest granddaughter.

Rhea Webber - scheming, manipulative, desperately romantic and loves heroes and tourneys and songs. ruins her own sister's marriage. is married, far, far above her station to King Aeny's bastard grandson Baelon Blackfyre due to her uncle, the calculating Lord Hand. genuinely adores her gallant husband, who rides the dragon Caraxes. wants him to be 60% more ruthless. resides at Harrenhal, whose ghosts are taking an avid interest in her.

Baela Manderly - middle daughter of Princess Viserra Targaryen and her Manderly husband. has two much older sisters, Aelinor (who is seeking the Iron Throne) & Desmona, and one much younger sister, Laenora. often felt forgotten and dismissed as a child, and has wholly rejected the Seven for the old gods. wants to live up to an entirely fictional 'warrior northern maiden' ideal, though she has nothing but disdain for the Mormonts. is in love with a wildling prisoner called Rose. rides the dragon Silverwing, and often dreams of becoming Queen Beyond the Wall- imagines the Free Folk would accept her without question. also harbors some ambitions of marrying Lord Stark. almost exclusively wears blue and white.

Jacaerys Connington - youngest son of Princess Saera Targaryen and her Connington husband. has two older brothers, Saeron (who is seeking the Iron Throne) & Aelyx (who has dragon dreams). an all around spiteful little shit. is decently talented with sword and axe. obsessed with his dead mother and had a bastard daughter (Sara Waters) with one of her maids in KL. rides the dragon Vermithor. he and his Blackwood wife loathe each other. has a thing for older women. was almost killed by Saeron's dragon Caraxes as a child. is rumored to be a bastard, and not Roy Connington's son at all. rocks the medieval mullet and shitty tiny mustache.

Melicent Blackwood - wife to the former Lord Hand of Queen Daella (whose death begins this Dance), Rymond Arryn, who is thrice her age. disdains her condescending husband and adores her young daughter, Jeyne. sister to Jace's wife, Anwen. has some sexual tension with a rogue knight of the Queensguard, Ser Benedict Rivers. helps him steal the crown of Aegon I and the sword Blackfyre. mother is a Myrish lady. feels betrayed by her father who wed her to a man who treats her like an ornament and nothing more. Maelys Hightower - granddaughter of Elaena Targaryen, the youngest child of Aegon and Rhaenys. auburn-haired and violet-eyed. was married off to Lord Braxton Beesbury at a young age. when he discovered her adultery with a blacksmith, he imprisoned her for 5 years until his untimely death. afterwards, she stole away to KL and claimed the young dragon Tessarion. vindictive, hot-headed, and vain. on the verge of an affair with her sister Cerenna (Lady Hightower)'s husband, Ser Gerion Lannister. schemes to put Cerenna's daughter Clarisse on the Iron Throne,

Aelinor Penrose (b. probably 172-177 AC, d. after 209 AC): Wife of Aerys I Targaryen, became queen of the Seven Kingdoms upon his accession in 209 AC. Fancast: Sarah Bolger.

Aelora Targaryen (b. approx. 200 AC, d. approx. 220 AC): Daughter of Rhaegel Targaryen and his wife, Alys Arryn. Became first in line to the Iron Throne upon the death of her father and twin brother-husband Aelor. Took her own life after a mysterious attack. Fancast: Yael Grobglas.

Aemma Arryn (82-105 AC): Daughter of Princess Daella Targaryen, making her the granddaughter of Good Queen Alysanne and Jaehaerys I. Married her first cousin, Viserys I Targaryen and had 3 children of whom only one, her daughter Rhaenyra, survived. Fancast: Emma Watson.

Aerea Targaryen (42-56 AC): Daughter of Rhaena Targaryen and Aegon the Uncrowned. Possibly born as her twin sister, Rhaella Targaryen, and switched identities at the age of six. Ran away on the back of Balerion, the Black Dread, and possibly visited Valyria. Died immediately upon her return. Fancast: Isabelle Allen.

Septa Aglantine (main series era): Member of the Most Devout, examines Queen Margaery to determine if her maidenhead is still intact. Fancast: Melissa Leo.

Agnes Blackwood (lived during the Century of Blood from 102 BC up to Aegon's Conquest): Lady of Raventree Hall and Head of House Blackwood during the ironborn invasion of the Riverlands. Possibly foretold the end of House Hoare at the hands of Aegon the Conqueror. Killed by Harwyn Hoare after she refused to become his salt wife. Fancast: Alessia Bonacci.

Alannys Harlaw (b. approx. 250 AC): Wife of Balon Greyjoy and mother of Asha and Theon. Currently lives on Harlaw with her brother Rodrik and sister Gwynesse. Fancast: Lindsay Duncan.

Alarra Massey (b. approx. 20 BC): Wife of Lord Aethan Velaryon, master of ships for Aegon I. Mother of Alyssa Velaryon, who married King Aenys I. Fancast: Connie Nielsen.

Alarra Stark (b. approx. 40 AC): Daughter of Alaric Stark, Lord of Winterfell and Head of House Stark during the early rule of King Jaehaerys I. Became a lady-in-waiting to Queen Alysanne after the queen's visit to the North in 58 AC. Fancast: Emma Hamilton.

Alayaya (b. 283 AC): Whore working at the brothel in King's Landing owned by her mother, Chataya of the Summer Isles. This brothel is frequented by Tyrion as a cover for the woman he is truly sleeping with, Shae. Alayaya is the girl whom Tyrion pretends to visit and as a result, she is drawn into his feud with his sister. My own headcanon: Because Alayaya was born in King's Landing, I always interpreted her as being mixed-race. Fancast: Vanessa Morgan.

I know you're a blackfyre stan (THE Blackfyre stan, really), but are there any Targaryens that you do like, besides the wonderful Daena?

I'll take that as a compliment (although I consider myself more of a regular fan than a “stan”). While there do seem to be more Blackfyre fans on the Westeros Forums or Tower of the Hand than on Tumblr, even on this site I'm far from the only one, or even the only one who writes meta. A 2015 Reddit poll indicates that House Blackfyre is among the top 20 favorite ASOIAF houses, which, given that the members of House Blackfyre don't appear in the main series, are mentioned in only one of the supplementary books (The World of Ice and Fire), and only one member appears in one Dunk and Egg novella, is actually very impressive. They rank higher than Houses Blackwood and Velaryon, two of GRRM's most glorified houses in the supplementary material. Their favorability despite few canon appearances proves that GRRM doesn't need to prop them up with improbable marriages to his most popular houses (Stark, Lannister, Baratheon, or Targaryen), or to have unrealistically successful heroes (like 12 year old expert generals) whose atrocities (burning smallfolk septs or sexually preying on multiple teenagers as a middle aged man) aren't condemned in the narrative. Rather, he gave them potential to be compelling characters who try to do the right thing against a corrupt government that has to commit war crimes to stay in power, that question the validity of the Targaryen legacy in a post-dragon world, that get betrayed by people who aren't shown to be 2D cartoon villains, whose faults (even the imagined ones) are (overly) called out by the narrative, are tragic in that they are shown to be honorable or talented people but pursue a goal that kills them, or that try hard to succeed despite their physical or mental disadvantages.

Which segues in to the next part of your question: if there are any Targaryen characters I like besides Daena:

If you had asked me this before Fire and Blood came out, I would've had an easier time answering! I might've said something like: Visenya, Aegon I, Queen Alyssa, Queen Rhaena, Alysanne, Rhaenys the Queen who Never Was, Helaena, Daeron the Daring, Aegon III, Jaehaera, Baela the Burnt, Daeron I, Elaena, Rhaena the Septa, Queen Aelinor, Prince Daeron son of Aegon V, and Rhaella. Then Fire and Blood was published, and it actually made the characters less interesting, deep, or likable with its greater word count. My sometime collaborator fury-burns said it best in that it was world unbuilding "that added unnecessary edginess to an already grim piece of writing". Whether it was not knowing how to write the much-hyped Aegon I as a compelling character, Visenya becoming bloodthirsty to the point of having few political allies and chastised by Aenys for her advice on dealing with the Faith, Queen Alyssa's abuse after her marriage to Robar, Rhaena retconned into a lesbian (she was clearly in love with Androw in The Sons of the Dragon and Elissa was nowhere in sight) who smothered her daughter into an early grave and spent her last years as a miserable "ghost" of Harrenhal, Alysanne who obeyed her husband in not seeing Saera and tried to protect her grown up son from "predations" by his 14-year-old sister, Rhaenys who married the 21-years-older Corlys Velaryon "for love" and was killed in the only battle she was ever mentioned participating in, Aegon III as Jaehaera's cruel bully who didn't even mourn her passing, or Baela who was retconned into being younger and not having visible burn scars in order to be a more palatable wife to GRRM's favorite Alyn Velaryon (I find this one the most offensive given what it indicates about his expectations for women) and then cuts the same man who saved her life across the face with a riding crop...well, Fire and Blood made me realize it wasn't so much the characters as GRRM had written them that I liked, but the potential I or other fans saw in them to be multifaceted like those in the main series. The characters that didn't do anything particularly heinous in-universe were massively watered down, sexist versions of amazing historical figures (I explain in a response post about Helaena vs Queen Mathilde of Boulogne), or abused for shock value/the anger of a male character.

I got my start in the fandom just before A Dance With Dragons came out, and consequently I was there when some truly great pre-canon fics were published. I have some fond memories as a teenager waiting in the library reading fanfics on Aegon and his sisters, Maegor and Aenys, or Baela and her family. Seeing their complicated, brilliantly written, memorable versions of the characters contradicted by the blatantly rushed, shallow, and plot-based characterization of Fire and Blood made me feel badly for the effort the fans put in that GRRM refused to (he actually hates all but some fanfiction). I understand creating characters with a backstory and have their actions flow logically from that backstory, and giving them an arc in which they develop, is difficult (and is really almost impossible through the format in which GRRM chose to write the supplemental books, which explains why he thinks it's easier to write) but the characters are why readers love the series. None of the characters in Fire and Blood can hold a candle to the complexity, the unique design, or the impressive character development of Theon Greyjoy, Jaime Lannister, Tyrion Lannister, Sansa Stark, Catelyn Stark, Stannis Baratheon, or Daenerys Targaryen. If he had written these characters like he did Fire and Blood, it would've been a forgettable, grimdark Tolkien rip-off along the lines of Terry G00dkind's L3gend of the S33ker.

Thus I'm holding off on saying I like any of the other Targaryen characters until GRRM is finished with them. The only ones from Fire and Blood that I still think are interesting and have some kind of compelling internal conflict (though I still don’t think they were written with their full potential, and could’ve used more development on their relationships) are Queen Visenya and Prince Daeron the Daring. Princess Elaena, Aelinor Penrose, and Ser Daeron in particular have the potential to be interesting, conflicted characters from the back half of the Targaryen reign, but I no longer trust GRRM to follow up on them in a meaningful way. Reading Fire and Blood also gave me more appreciation for the canon-era Targaryens Viserys and Daenerys, and how much more carefully written they are than their ancestors.

Why Renly didn't know about the incest.

A popular theory is that Renly Baratheon knew about the incest all along. It's so popular it's treated as fact.

But I maintain that he didn't know, and I think the text supports my assertion.

Here I've listed the common arguments for why he knew, and my rebuttal to them.

It's impossible for Robert to set Cersei aside without the incest

Then why do all these people think he can?

He's still in love with the sister, the insipid little dead sixteen-year-old. How long till he decides to put me aside for some new Lyanna?

"He was a wretched king . . . vain, drunken, lecherous . . . he would have set your sister aside, his own queen . . . please . . . Renly was plotting to bring the Highgarden maid to court, to entice his brother . . . it is the gods' own truth . . ."

"And what was Lord Arryn plotting?"

"He knew," Pycelle said. "About . . . about . . ."

"I know what he knew about," snapped Tyrion, who was not anxious for Shagga and Timett to know as well.

Both Pycelle and Cersei think that Robert could set Cersei aside if he wanted to. You can argue that Cersei is paranoid and not well versed in politics, but Pycelle? Pycelle is a maester who would have an in depth knowledge of Westeros history.

Pycelle says Renly was plotting to bring Margaery to court so that Cersei would be set aside, and that Jon Arryn knew about the incest, but he doesn't seem to think Renly knew. Tyrion, a very well read person, does not express surprise or disbelief at Renly's scheme, but takes it in stride.

And there's that word: "put aside". If Renly was planning to use the incest, Cersei would be executed, not put aside.

The Knight of Flowers writes Highgarden, urging his lord father to send his sister to court. The girl is a maid of fourteen, sweet and beautiful and tractable, and Lord Renly and Ser Loras intend that Robert should bed her, wed her, and make a new queen. Littlefinger … the gods only know what game Littlefinger is playing. Yet Lord Stark's the one who troubles my sleep. He has the bastard, he has the book, and soon enough he'll have the truth.

Varys also doesn't seem to think Renly knew. He's afraid of Ned revealing the truth but doesn't imply that Renly was planning to reveal the incest in his scheme. Why?

“I had never suspected you were so clever, Stannis. Were it only true, you would indeed be Robert’s heir.”

“Were it true? Do you name me a liar?”

“Can you prove any word of this fable?”

Stannis ground his teeth.

“We both know your wedding was a mummer’s farce. A year ago you were scheming to make the girl one of Robert’s whores.”

“A year ago I was scheming to make the girl Robert’s queen,” Renly said.

At the parley between Renly and Stannis, Renly denies knowledge of the incest while freely admitting he was planning on making Margaery queen. If the incest was necessary to make Margaery queen, why doesn't Stannis accuse him of knowing about it and using it in his scheme? If the Margaery plan was so impossible, why does Catelyn not think about that when Renly tells the everyone present at the parley about it?

Also, are we supposed to believe that Renly was so careless with his Margaery scheme half the court knew about it, but not a whiff about him supposedly knowing about the incest?

He had to know, otherwise the Tyrells wouldn't agree

I have a counter to that as well:

1) It's not known if the Tyrells did agree. We only hear of Renly and Loras urging Mace to bring Margaery to court, but we don't know if he was going to or if the letter had even been sent (Varys might have prevented it).

2) Margaery being queen would still be a huge coup.

Plans had been under way for some time for the two of them to make another progress the following year, returning to the westerlands for the first time in twenty years. Shortly after their falling out, the queen informed Jaehaerys that he should go alone. She was going back to Dragonstone, alone, to grieve for their dead daughters.

...By that time, the queen’s absence had been noticed, and His Grace would oft find himself seated next to some lissome maid or handsome widow at feasts, or riding beside them when hawking or hunting, but he took no notice of any of them. At Bandallon, when Lord Blackbar’s youngest daughter was so bold as to seat herself in his lap and attempt to feed him a grape, he brushed her hand aside and said, “Forgive me, but I have a queen, and no taste for paramours.”

We know that even being the king's mistress is very desirable based on how many girls were trying to seduce Jaeherys at his first progress without Alysanne.

Aegon IV also had many paramours. With their influence on the king they were able to get their family wealth and power. Robert could hand out council positions, lands, castles and favours to the Tyrells.

Robert still also has many years to live, so the Tyrells could also exert their influence on Joffrey and his siblings, to make sure by the time Joffrey ascends the throne all the gains aren't reversed.

There's no precedent!

That isn't quite true either.

"Wars are bad for trade," said Lord Dorian Hightower, when he set aside his wife of twenty years, the mother of his children, to take an Andal princess as his bride.

Garth the Great extended the borders of his realm northward, winning Old Oak, Red Lake, and Goldengrove with pacts of friendship and mutual defense. Garland accomplished the same in the south, bringing Oldtown into his kingdom by wedding his daughter to Lymond (the Sea Lion) of House Hightower, whilst putting his own wives aside to marry Lord Lymond's daughter.

Beldon tells us that in 239 AC, Ellyn Reyne was accused of bedding Tytos Lannister, urging him to set aside his wife and marry her instead.

Daemon found the Vale of Arryn boring (“In the Vale, the men fuck sheep,” he wrote. “You cannot fault them. Their sheep are prettier than their women.”), and soon developed a mislike of his lady wife, whom he called my bronze bitch, after the runic bronze armor worn by the lords of House Royce. Upon the accession of his brother to the Iron Throne, the prince petitioned to have his marriage set aside. Viserys denied the request but did allow Daemon to return to court".

A fortnight later, Alyn Velaryon and Baela Targaryen were married in the sept on Dragonstone. The bride was sixteen, the groom nearly seventeen.

Several of the regents, outraged, urged Ser Tyland to appeal to the High Septon for an annulment, but the Hand’s own response was one of bemused resignation.

The marriage took place without the leave, knowledge, or presence of King Aenys. When it became known, the two half-brothers quarreled bitterly. Nor was His Grace alone in his wroth. Manfred Hightower, father of Lady Ceryse, made protest to the king, demanding that Lady Alys be put aside.

Vexed and angry, King Aenys gave his brother a choice: put Alys Harroway aside and return to Lady Ceryse, or suffer five years of exile.

Assuming the throne in 209 AC, Daeron’s second son, Aerys, had never imagined he would be king, and was singularly ill suited to sit the Iron Throne. Aerys was learned, in his way, though his interests were largely to do with dusty tomes concerned with ancient prophecy and the higher mysteries. Wed to Aelinor Penrose, he never showed an interest in getting her with child, and rumor had it that he had even failed to consummate the marriage. His small council, at their wits’ ends, hoped it was simply some dislike of her that moved him, and thus they urged him to put her aside to take another wife. But he would not hear of it.

As can be seen, there have been marriages which have been put aside or which have been petitioned to be put aside, which tells us it's possible. It's also worth keeping in mind that no one hearing of Renly's scheme questions it.

We also know Renly doesn't care about precedents:

"Tell me, what right did my brother Robert ever have to the Iron Throne?" He did not wait for an answer. "Oh, there was talk of the blood ties between Baratheon and Targaryen, of weddings a hundred years past, of second sons and elder daughters. No one but the maesters care about any of it. Robert won the throne with his warhammer."

It's very in-character for him to concoct a scheme without keeping in mind legalities.

Everyone else in the Small Council knew

Barristan didn't know.

Littlefinger has a spy network.

Varys also has a spy network.

Stannis only found out after 12 years of being in the capital, and it's also hinted that someone told him.

"He accuses my brother and sister of incest. I wonder how he came by that suspicion."

"Perhaps he read a book and looked at the color of a bastard's hair, as Ned Stark did, and Jon Arryn before him. Or perhaps someone whispered it in his ear." The eunuch's laugh was not his usual giggle, but deeper and more throaty.

"If you were not this whisperer, who was?"

"Some traitor, doubtless."

Varys tightened the cinch.

"Littlefinger?"

"I named no name."

Then Stannis went to Jon Arryn:

“Lord Stannis,” [Catelyn] asked, “if you knew the queen to be guilty of such monstrous crimes, why did you keep silent?”

“I did not keep silent,” Stannis declared. “I brought my suspicions to Jon Arryn.”

(A Clash of Kings, Catelyn III)

They investigated, Jon Arryn looking up genealogies in the book and he and Stannis looking up Robert's bastards.

However no one even hints at Renly knowing about the incest. Neither does anyone mention Renly investigating things in the capital.

Keep in mind that Renly was only around 20 in A Game of Thrones. It's safe to assume he became Master of Laws only when he was 16, so that's only around 4 years in King's Landing.

Why was Renly so scared of Cersei when Robert's dying? It makes no sense unless he knew about the incest!

That's patently untrue.

Consider what kind of person Cersei is. Cruel, and very overprotective of her children's rights.

She wanted Arya to lose a hand for striking Joffrey:

Ned Stark's daughter had run off after her wolf savaged Joff, you'll recall. My sister wanted the girl to lose a hand. The old penalty, for striking one of the blood royal. Robert told her she was cruel and mad. They fought for half the night . . . well, Cersei fought, and Robert drank.

Let's think about another protective mother, Catelyn:

Catelyn said nothing. Let Ned work it out in his own mind; her voice would not be welcome now. Yet gladly would she have kissed the maester just then. His was the perfect solution. Benjen Stark was a Sworn Brother. Jon would be a son to him, the child he would never have. And in time the boy would take the oath as well. He would father no sons who might someday contest with Catelyn’s own grandchildren for Winterfell.

That morning he called it first. "I'm Lord of Winterfell!" he cried, as he had a hundred times before. Only this time, this time, Robb had answered, "You can't be Lord of Winterfell, you're bastard-born. My lady mother says you can't ever be the Lord of Winterfell."

Catelyn wanted Jon gone because he or his children could threaten her children's claim to Winterfell. The same would hold true for Renly, being the uncle of Cersei's children, he could challenge their claim on the Iron Throne. He could even be made Regent to the children, which would ensure a bitter power struggle between him and Cersei. There's no need for Renly to know of the incest to fear Cersei.

The Lannisters are regarded to be treacherous:

"Not our men," Ned said patiently. "Lannister men. The lion of Lannister flew over the ramparts, not the crowned stag. And they had taken the city by treachery."

(A Game of Thrones, Eddard II)

He swore to trade her for his brother," she said numbly. "Sansa and Arya both. We would have them back if we returned his precious Jaime, he swore it before the whole court. How could he marry her, after saying that in sight of gods and men?"

"He's the Kingslayer's brother. Oathbreaking runs in their blood." Robb's fingers brushed the pommel of his sword.

So more than enough reason for Renly to fear Cersei even without the incest.

In my opinion, Renly's suggestion to Ned supports the argument that Renly didn't know.

Lord Renly took a step back, taut as a bowstring. "Every moment you delay gives Cersei another moment to prepare. By the time Robert dies, it may be too late … for both of us.

When Robert is dying, Renly asks Ned to sieze the Regency and take Cersei's children in hand. He is genuinely scared of Cersei siezing power.

So why then didn't he tell Ned about the incest?

Cersei would be executed, and her children as well. One can say: Because Ned wouldn't believe him. But in that very instance he was planning on storming the Red Keep and potentially dying. If he thought that risk was worth it, why not this one? One can say: Because Stannis would be king. But again, storming the Red Keep is much more dangerous than assassinating Stannis once he comes to the capital.

Alternatively, he could have told Robert on his deathbed, like Ned planned to do but which he could not make himself do.

So that's my argument for why Renly didn't know about the incest. Since it's so widely accepted as fact that he did know, I had to put it out there.

He shared with his father a fondness for reading, books, prophecies and mystery.

He married his cousin, Lady Aelinor Penrose, but never showed any interest in having children with her. It was rumored that Aerys had not even consummated the marriage.

As a child, his nephew, Prince Aegon, heard Aerys read in a prophecy about the return to life of dragons.

The new king Aerys I named his uncle Brynden Ríos as Mano del Rey and let him rule to devote himself to the study of books and popular knowledge. During his reign he was a scholar who preferred to read than to rule; began the saying in the Seven Kingdoms that "Aerys will take a book to his bed before his wife". As Aerys I had not yet fathered children with his wife Aelinor, his Privy Council, believing that Aerys I avoided his bed because he disliked him, urged Aerys to leave Aelinor and take another wife. However, Aerys did not even want to hear about it, and they remained married.

As Aerys I was seen as a weak and reservist monarch, the Feugoscuro tried to take sides. Lord Gormon Peake, a loyal to the Darkfires, guided Daemon II Darkfire on his return to Westeros, and attempted to muster support for a revolt, the Second Darkfire Rebellion. Thanks to the Blood Raven Lord's spy network, and the interventions of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, the rebellion was left unsuccessful during the White Walls Tournament.

Due to the fact that his marriage with his cousin Aelinor Penrose did not produce children, in the course of his reign Aerys I recognized several heirs, although none were his son. His brother Rhaegel had died in A.D. 215. during a feast, drowned in a lamprey cake. Rhaegel's son Aelor then became Prince of Dragonstone and heir to the throne. However, two years later, Aelor died in a grotesque accident at the hands of his own twin sister and wife, Aelora, in unknown circumstances that left him insane with pain. Aelora became Princess of Dragonstone and heir to the throne.

The Third Fuegoscuro Rebellion took place in A.D. 219. and ended with the capture of Aegor Ríos and the death of Haegon Firefighter. Aceroamargo was taken prisoner in King's Landing. While Blood Raven and Aerion Targaryen wanted Bittersweet to be executed, King Aerys was gracious, giving him the option to spend the rest of his days as a sworn brother of the Night's Watch. The ship that was in charge of transporting it to the Wall was intercepted near Guardiaoriente del Mar by some Fuegoscuro supporters, with which Aegor could be rescued and returned with the Golden Company to the other side of the Narrow Sea.

Finally, Aerys I was succeeded upon his death in A.D. 221. by his brother Maekar.

Elaena Targaryen || Lady of House Targaryen ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Warning || Mature Themes ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Elaena was born in 254 AC, to her parents, Viserys Targaryen, son of Aegon V and his wife, Lilah Targaryen formally of the House Greyjoy. The Princess was born in Summerhall, but spent most of her time split between Dragonstone and King’s Landing. Her Grandfather often enjoyed showing the young child around the Red Keep and one of her most precious memories was falling asleep in her grandfather’s lap whilst he sat on the Iron Throne telling her stories of dragons. From birth she knew that she would be married to her cousin Daeron, two years her elder, who as the son of Aegon’s heir, Rheagar and his Sister-Wife, Aelinor; would result in her one day being Queen. This however was not to be, and tragedy struck her family when Summerhall was burnt to the ground in an attempt to hatch dragon eggs, killing all inside.

Then not a year following that tragedy, the Erebus family begins a war, and many betray the Targaryen house. An attack on Dragonstone occurred and in an attempt to flee, Viserys, Elaena’s father fought valiantly to hold them off as his family attempted to make their way to safety, Elaena’s last image of her father was his throat being slit. While running for the ships were most of her family had already made it to, her mother was shot down with an arrow and with her final breath compelled Elaena to take her younger sister Naerys and run… Only thanks to a servant and her Aunt Aerlina did they make it to the ship, where Rhaegar was already frantically working to ready the ship for sail. As they sailed away, Elaena looked back at the island where battle was still occurring and she wept for not only her parents, being now an orphan at only five years old, but for the life she had dreamed of that she will now never get to have.

Growing up in Essos, Eleana flourished into a kind, caring woman who sought to do the right thing and help people, having put the past behind her. She studied hard, learning about many things and when the time came she married Daeron as her parents wanted, and she did love him. Trouble came when she was visiting the nearby market place and two men of the seven kingdoms, visiting Essos noticed her and called her a ‘Targaryen whore’, startled she tried to reason with them but despite her efforts she was taken against her will and later discovering she was pregnant took a potion called ‘Moon Tea’, not wishing anyone to ever know of her 'shame’. The lack of control caused her to spiral, flashing back to how she felt losing her parents, the memories she had hidden away, returning with a vengeance.

With time she grew to despise those who took everything form her, power, happiness and her future, not only for herself but her family… they took away her family, and her home and she despised them all for it. To the confusion of her family she began pushing for them to agree with her, and was angered when they preferred to forgive and forget, not understanding how they could let these monsters get away with it. The true breaking of Elaena did not come with a sickness or another death but rather a woman, and the life she would soon bring into the world. Daeron brought home, Clara Tully and her young son, the woman being his 'favoured mistress’. Elaena, who loved her husband more then anything broke at the sight of him blatantly betraying her like so many others have.

This was made worse when Clara bore him twin boys, while Elaena still had yet to produce a true heir. Unable to tell them she had fallen pregnant from an attack, she lived with the suspicions that she might be barren and the illegitimate twins would be considered 'heirs’. Elaena was fearful of losing everything and was relieved and elated when she fell pregnant with Daeron’s child. She was more then happy for the purpose of an heir, but was truly blessed, having alway wanted to be a mother, to have a child who she knew would never betray her. When she gave birth to Rhaenyra she was perfect, and truly a Targaryen princess.

When Rhaenyra was three a fire broke out in her nursery. Elaena was panicked, terrified her daughter had been lost to her and grieved only to have Rhaneyra crawl into her arms, covered in ash but otherwise unharmed. The fire turned out to have been an assassination attempt on the young Targaryen heir and the servant responsible was executed, although who hired them was never revealed. Elaena swore then that no one would ever steal her daughter away from her, and that she would see to it those that wronged her… that sought to destroy her child would be punished.

She swore then that she would do everything in her power to give her daughter the life the deserves, and she would see her daughter receive what was stolen from her. On that day she swore to the Valyrian gods she had come to worship, “I will take back what was stolen from us with Fire and Blood… I will burn those who stand in my way… I will reclaim our throne… for her… for my Rhaenyra”.

Do you think Daeron II rewarded Princess Elaena Targaryen's bastard son Jon Waters with lands of his own and that is how he and his son created their own house? Daeron II and Princess Elaena were very close so I imagine that he did many favors for her children. Also, why didn't Aerys II look to House Longwaters when looking for a bride for Rhaegar? They are descended from two Valyrians: Alyn "Oakenfist" Velaryon and Elaena Targaryen.

And how come Jaime doubts that Rennifer Longwaters is descended from a Targaryen princess? Jaime would have had the best education. The Westerlands were loyal to Da3ron II and history paints Elaena Targaryen nicely. It is said that her bastard son with the Oakenfist was a great and famous knight, as was his son. So it seems odd to me that Jaime never heard of House Longwaters no matter how minor they are and doesn't know that they descend from Oakenfist/Elaena. (2/2)

Do I think Da3ron II rewarded Jon Waters lands of his own? House Longwaters is in the Crownlands, which means they swear fealty to the (Targaryen) king directly in exchange for a fief. However, the House was founded by Jon’s son Ser Longwaters, not Jon himself. Unless Jon married very young, Da3ron could not have enabled the foundation, since he passed away when Jon was about 35. I don’t know if Aerys I would’ve granted Longwaters some lands, but it would’ve been the intelligent thing to do; perhaps Maekar did it as a show of support if Longwaters fought against the Ironborn invaders with him.

To answer your other questions and to add some commentary under the cut:

Da3ron II and Elaena were very close: just because she was a part of his court does not mean they were close. She was the wife of his Master of Coin, whom he forced her to marry to build an alliance with a Stormlander House after the Aerys/Aelinor marriage went sour (that’s the fanon reason for the match, anyway). Florence Fossoway served a similar role under Jaehaerys (as the wife of the Master of Coin but de-facto head of the treasury) and it’s not mentioned they were exceptionally close. The fact she, a woman of around 50 with 7 children, had to ask for his blessing to marry a man from his own court indicates they were not close. It paints Da3ron as an overly-controlling jerk when it comes to family matters, actually (which we know is canon from Aemon). There is no mention of Da3ron (or even Elaena) interacting with her illegitimate children from canon sources; I believe it would be out of character for Da3ron to “perform favors” for them if he had nothing to gain from it. This allows both of us to headcanon what their relationship was like; but consider Jon and Jeyne were the children of a Velaryon, which is a House that circumstantial evidence indicates proclaimed for Daemon (considering their blood relationship and the strange reversal of fortune after the Daenaera marriage, which might mean they supported the blacks like Boros Baratheon supported the greens in the Dance of Dragons era). I also believe they were raised by Daena as a favor to her sister alongside Daemon, and that Jeyne wed a Peake grandson around the time Daemon wed Rohanne (explaining how and why the Peakes are such ardent and early Blackfyre supporters, in addition to getting a Blackfyre daughter Larra themselves).

Why didn’t Aerys consider House Longwaters as a bride for Rhaegar?: Considering all of the Longwaters we know of are male (Rennifer and his father, plus the ancestral founder), it could be a Baratheon situation where there were no daughters of age for Rhaegar. House Longwaters is only descended from the Targaryens illegitimately and is a very minor house; meanwhile the Martells have closer Targaryen heritage and are the Lords Paramount of a kingdom. Even not taking into account that House Tarth also married into the Targaryens and were not considered either, it makes sense why the Longwaters were overlooked.

The Westerlands were loyal to Da3ron II: like most of the kingdoms involved in the war, the Westerlands were split between Daemon and Da3ron. The Reynes were long-considered the second most prominent House in the kingdom, the Tarbecks supported both sides, the Crakehalls supposedly declared for Daemon (if you think Redtusk was a Crakehall), and there is at least one Hill in the Golden Company by canon era which perhaps indicates more.

How come Jaime doubts Rennifer was descended from a Targaryen princess? Jaime was just being a sarcastic dick when he made that comment about “the chief undergaoler with the twisted back” who has “a spotted head and white hairs growing from his chin” resembling Aegon the Conqueror. Rennifer was going on and on about his heritage at length to Jaime without being asked and Jaime said it to shut him up because he was more concerned about Tyrion and Cersei’s paranoia. However, Jaime’s knowledge of house lore is not the strongest (in ASoS he reflects he doesn’t know much about House Bolton, whereas Tyrion would “have known all there was to know about the Lord of the Dreadfort, indicating he’s not sure about even more prominent distant Houses), and he might just not know about a minor house in another kingdom.
