I’ve rounded up some of my favorite Aegnor/Andreth fics and put them into a rec list. Some are sweet, some are heartbreaking, some are a little of both, and all are beautifully written. Please leave a kudos and comment if you enjoy!
Note: Works marked with “character death” either begin with one or both of them dead, or one or both of them die during the course of the story. Links lead to AO3 or the SWG.
Across the Gulf by Antiheld (T, 3.1k):
A brief moment of rebelling against fates. Andreth/Aegnor Oneshot, AU(ish)
A Few Good Years to Spend by Verecunda (G, 4.7k):
“Tell him not to be reckless. Not to seek danger beyond need!” Once, Aegnor turned away from the desires of his heart. But when Finrod gives him a message from Andreth, the love he gave up so long ago will no longer be denied.
All in Patience, All in Haste by EilinelsGhost (G, ~700 words):
A month or two after the Athrabeth, Andreth receives another Arafinwëan visitor.
A Moth in Amber by Mithen (G, 1k, character death):
Andreth and Aegnor had one spring together, and each of them carried it in their hearts the rest of their lives.
Burnt Sugar by @sallysavestheday (G, ~200 words):
Aegnor and Andreth and fires in the dark.
Candlelight On Tapestry by amyfortuna (G, 1.1k, character death):
In the Halls of Mandos, Aegnor spends his time staring into memories and dreams, until he's shaken out of them by an unexpected meeting.
Clear Visions by @hhimring (T, 1.2k):
Aegnor sings to Andreth of Valinor.
For One Year, One Day, of the Flame by @cuarthol (T, 1.7k):
Andreth prepares for the approach of midwinter, while Aegnor seeks to right a choice from long ago, before it is too late.
Sharing by Ruiniel (T, 1.4k):
The concept of ‘mind-pictures’ in The Nature of Middle-earth is interesting to explore, applied an interpretation of it to this short scene featuring Aegnor and Andreth (trying to get back into writing for Tolkien). "In any case indemmar were by Men mostly received in sleep (dream). If received when bodily awake they were usually vague and phantom-like (and often caused fear) [...]" Slightly AU take on this one.
Though We Shall Not Leave by LadyBrooke (T, 5k, character death):
Aegnor died, but that does not mean he left Andreth's side for long.
Whither you go by Ruiniel (T, 1.3k, character death):
'Whither you go may you find light. Await us there, my brother - and me.' - from Athrabeth Finrod ah Andreth, J.R.R. Tolkien Months ago, tried a short ghost story about souls meeting again in a time out of time. Featuring the saddest OTP. The AU is on me (apologies).
Who will pity the candle and the moth? by @hhimring (T, ~200 words, character death):
A very brief encounter between Andreth and Aegnor after death. Maybe Nienna had her hand in it, allowing Andreth to linger for a short while among dead Elves. Or maybe not?
worth the candle by arriviste (G, 1.2k, character death):
“I cannot linger here,” Andreth says. That is a truth she knows. This is only a doorway. “Still we might snatch a little time,” says Aegnor. - Aegnor and Andreth meet in the Halls.

Some brief yet hopefully instructive notes on sexual differentiation between the Eldar and the Atani, by Finrod Felagund
by arriviste (@arrivisting)
As one of the few in Aman who has engaged in long term study of the Atani (including a period in which I lived among them quite as one of their own), I feel that a few observations from me on this subject might prove helpful. Alas, my original notes were forever sundered from me as an unfortunate consequence of my death by werewolf. Eru IlĂșvatar preserves the soul, but the hröa must be made anew: and like the flesh, research notes can only cross what was once the Sundering Sea by ship. I suppose they are now at the bottom of said Sea, if they were not previously destroyed in the ruin of Nargothrond. It is fortunate that I have a perfectly crystalline memory, and can therefore make good the loss.

Well.. first, many eggs just die on their own during the lifetime and are never "used" for anything. Then menopause happens and post-menopausal women have maybe few or none eggs at all (differing sources, there are some claiming the hormonal changes in menopause basically "dry the out" others say you still have some eggs stored..)
This discourse about elf biology always make my head hurt..
Elves and men would be probably genetically considered the same species, they do not have infertile offspring sof stillbirths... then they must be very similar. There is the guestion; could be two species with differing ovulation types compatibile enough? I am really not sure about that, but I would say "no." Below is explained the difference between spontaneous vs induced ovulation.
Tumblr media
I might be no fun at parties..
I think elves don't go into heat (which is different type of spontaneous ovulation) and they have a cycle just as humans do. Yet we might consider the effects of fëa upon the elven biology. I am still dealing with supernatural race, who can walk on snow and sing rivers into spade..
Therefore it is possible the menstrual cycle slows down, when women do not activelly desire children. However, that can be only party true, it is possible that prolonged sexual activity increase the speed of ovulation. We can say elves are biologically spontaneous ovulators but magically induced ovulators at the same time. Maybe the fëa bonding is what triggers the female fëa to start the cycle?
Anyway, there are some interesting abstracts I found about humans.
Now, I find absolutelly hilarious that elves might obtain twins just by being really really horny and having a lot of intercourse, thus inducing the double ovulation.
The study regarding women voiced during cycle is really fascinating. Imagine elves with their perfect pitch to be able to tell if a women are fertile or not... all women, elf one and human ones. That is the kind of weird creepiness I am here for! The awkward scene between Andreth and Aegnor as he visits her and realizes "oh Eru, she is ovulating now!" Andreth does not understand why is he so weird today..
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also the implication that the line of Luthien must be infamously horny as they borne so many twins. (Nothing surprising about FĂ«anor and Nerdanel, we all know they are permanent residents of horny jail..)
I think that might be my most important conclusion: THE LINE OF LUTHIEN IS HORNY! (it is Beren's heritage for sure..)
I think we can all agree the elves don’t have periods, right?
Bc a period is the bodily function when people with uteruses expell an egg or two from their womb bc they didn’t get pregnant (this is a v bastardized version of the entire explenation) and the amount of eggs a uterus has is finite, meaning that there is a certain number you have before you are done. Humans run out of eggs at around 50-60 y/o, i cannot imagine how many eggs an elf would need to have at birth in order to have that bodily function for eternity, bc they do not age.
Furthermore, bc having kids is such a deliberate move amungst elves (from what i understand) where they need to creat the child’s soul, it doesn’t make sense to have a bodily function amongst the elves around child creation that’s, for lack of better words, so accidental and unreliable.
Therefor, i do not think elves have periods. It does not make sense for them to have them.

how silm characters react to the fandom
Feanaro: gets way too involved way too quickly, has multiple troll accounts and blocks anyone who sa-si’s.
Nerdanel: can’t really use technology but thinks it’s kind of fun.
Maitimo: instant anxiety attack. Is morbidly fascinated by all the russingon smut. Thinks the Fingon content is sweet. Loves kidnap fam.
Maglor: follows nails-in-my-wall. Immediately starts shitposting about his family. Uncertain why half the fandom thinks he’s a crab.
Celegorm: Deleted his account when he realised Finrod got more rep than him. His new account only is on the low down.
Caranthir: embezzling fanartists somehow. No moral compass.
Curufin: found silvergifting, had a heart attack.
NolofinwĂ«: Anaire keeps complimenting all the art of him and he’s getting flustered.
Fingon: obsessively saves artwork of Maedhros. Ironically endorses the posts calling him a posh asshole.
Aredhel: gets so much closure from all the online support.
Turgon: disproportionately annoyed by one (1) person who said he was insensitive.
Finarfin: always brings up the youngsters on the internet who think he’s a good king.
Finrod: thinks he’s not famous enough. Works to remedy that.
Aegnor: wonders why everyone thinks he owns and frequently uses a hair straightener; cries over every artwork of him and Andreth.
Galadriel: no one knows and it’s frankly disturbing.
Elrond: periodically censors posts using him as a moral compass. Offers hugs to everyone who reblogged that one post.

Aegnor and Andreth are a canon Elf man/human woman pairing, but they never get together and it's tragic. 😭
But yes, I also adore Caranthir/Haleth.
I think my main reason for shipping Caranthir and Haleth is because we need at least one inter-race Tolkien couple where the human is a woman. Like all three canon human-elven pairings it's always the fabulous fae elven beauty and the heroic dude and I'm like... What about a mighty elf-lord and his badass human lady? Hmm? I need this to be a thing and Haleth/Caranthir is the only ship I know of that has that dynamic going for it plus of the middle three sons of Feanor Caranthir is the only one NOT part of the attacks on Luthien... therefore he's the best of those 3

@lammstrellicon informed me of another Gil-Galad origin theory, that might slowly be seeking its way up as my favorite, under my Andreth drawing, so hereÂŽs Gil, son of Aegnor and Andreth, my beloved half elven high king :)
