Date With Markiplier - Meta Ending (#1)

This comes first, because at the very end of this ending, I believe this Mark is Actor!Mark. One reason being that he says 'I used to be somebody, maybe not something good, but I was somebody, who worked on great projects.' as he says this, he picks up an almost-empty liquor bottle.

A few minutes pass, then he walks towards makeup, demanding that some be put on his face, and that he's 'very ugly.' The makeup lady yells at him, then after she walks off, he repeats 'I used to be somebody. I used to be a star…etc. etc.'

A few more minutes, then the director yells for them to return to the set. A!Mark takes a breath and reassures himself 'I can do this…only 5 more years of parole'.

he gets yoinked and probed by supposedly aliens and comes back covered in goop?

What if thats the Universal Stability Agency trying to find Mark and the Captain through all the time lines the way Dark does and they find the disaster of ADWM and go "hmm seems like the kind of dumbassery those two would get up to to escape us..."

Like thats totally a mistake Wug would make, just going literally "if not friend then why friend shaped?"

The reactor went kaboom?

Define Dark…?

Chapter 1

There are times when the cold takes over. Moments where the only thing that comes to mind is the feeling of bitter frost climbing up my calves. While others are dedicated to the fact that maybe I will forever be stuck in this mirror. Forced to watch as people walk by, not able to hear the cries of help that leave my throat sore.

It has been days since Damien left me to my own slice of hell. What I think is Damien anyway. Even though the man I knew would never cast me out like that. Not without a damn good reason. He isn’t selfish enough to do so otherwise. Unless something had changed in the moments Celine, him, and I shared the body. They would have told me though, right? No- why am I even questioning this- of course, they would! They would have a good reason. They do. I know they do. Fuck. My thoughts have fragmented since they left me here.

“Fragile. Like glass.” Is how Will and Mark described me for the longest time before Damien and I pursued law. Neither of us had a plan, but we had each other. And when we could we would come back home to gang all together! Ironic now I guess. The walls of this prison echo and repeat the sentiment. It seems like this is all there is now. All I can do is wait for someone to shatter me, freeing me from my pristine prison.

Tell me why this would be how it would end. Honestly, I thought I would’ve worked myself to death as Damien’s right hand. It would’ve been hell seeing him smooze with political opponents and sugar babies, but I’d find comfort in his presence... like I always did. And Celine’s visits always left me in a better mood. God, even though she can be cold, she cares so much for the people she genuinely loves. God, no wonder her and Wil ran off. She always loved someone that could make her laugh…

Maybe she was the one who pushed me away in the end. After all, those times we caught up could have been out of obligation. She never really talked to me unless as a last resort anyway.

She was happy with William.

That’s all I’ve ever wanted for her.

Then again, with the number of opponents Damien had, I could’ve been assassinated or something. That would’ve been pretty cool. Not the best way to die but definitely better than starvation or dehydration in this place. Far faster too. Especially compared to heartbreak. Damn this place. Damn this party! Why did all of this happen to us? I thought Wil and Mark were okay- everything seemed to be okay!

Fuck-!

“This chaos, this calamity. This garden once was perfect.” A buttery voice echoes from outside. Who the hell is still here? William? He isn't one to sing. Not unless he's shitfaced. I thought he left soon after Damien did. Maybe the staff? No. If they’re still here then they’re caught up in this circus. God bless them if they are. No one deserved to be caught up in this spiderweb of a murder.

Lightning flashes outside, followed by resounding thunder. Good to see that some things never change.

“Give your immortality to me, I’ll set you up against the stars,” Whomever it was, it’s not like they could help. Whatever force that imprisoned me here was supernatural in nature. It felt like it at least. It's probable that very force would be the only thing to free me. “Ooh Celine, you lied- we must go on,” The voice grows closer, captivated in their own sultry serenade. To what audience though? Everyone is gone! That is, everyone seems to be gone. Everyone that matters. Unless he decided to finally show his pompous self.

Shoes click against the polished floor as they strut closer. It’s undeniable now. That stone-cold tone matches his body temp. At least, it did when I last saw him. “This is the time and this is the place to be,”

He was better dead.

“Alive- oh! Oh my!” Surprise colored his usually calculated yet, admittedly, handsome face. Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to say no to the infamous Mark Iplier. Just like it’s possible to eat the rich. However, that’s only possible when no one’s around.

“Well aren’t you a sight for sore eyes! Last I saw, you were doting on that darling Damien and that cruel woman known as my wife.” Oh, if looks could kill-

“Okay one, the divorce was months ago Mark. She’s not your wife.” I should know I was there when the papers were signed. “And two, get me out of here so I can properly kill you!” What was my friend rolled his eyes before handing me a strained look. “If you’re saying something right now, I can’t hear you.” With nothing left to help, my hands bang against the seemingly impenetrable surface.

Nothing.

No cracks.

Not even a scratch.

“Hey now, think of this as the best for both of us. After all, if it was up to me,” He huffs, leaning on the decorative table to properly intimidate me. “You, Y/n, you would have no way to speak.”

Yeah uh-huh, talk to the hand, Mark. I don’t have time for this. “Regardless of my threats, you have better use to me if you're cooperative.” With only a glance back to him, the man that was retaining my attention was a husk. Eyes void and voice dark enough to match. He spoke with such conviction, his aura commanding as the glass shattered on its own. “Wait, hold up Mark-“

Not a word was spoken when he reached for my wrist. With force far greater than his own, he pulled me out. The invisible wall that separated me from whatever hellscape I was locked in broke like an elastic barrier. All that tension left a gaping hole that seemed to call onto something of equal value to fill it. Great as it was, the call was ignored by the ever-present, newfound, void I'm learning to grow accustomed to. “Y’know Mark. I like what you did to the scenery. Very avant-garde.” I mumbled to hide the obvious terror.

“You like this?” Whispers and echoes of Mark convened from the layers of surrounding darkness. "You should see what I can really do.” A maniacal laugh follows the challenge. “In fact, why wait at all? I’ll show you all I have to offer!” The air grew colder, thicker even. As if all at once, the atmosphere turned to oil.

What little breath I had depleted in the panic to get more. Instinctively my hands went to my throat, begging it to work again. Please tell me someone is here to save me!

William? Celine? Damien? Anyone, please! “Oh, Y/n, don’t panic. You’re gonna love this! I’ll be the partner you’ve always needed- someone you can finally depend on! Just let me take the lead, and everything will be fine.” What little vision I had began to fail while what monologue Mark was going into faded into obscurity.

Beep Beep Beep

Sitting up in my poorly made bed, gasping for breath, was not the ideal start of my morning. Trust me when I say nightmares don’t come easily for me. But life comes with off days.

Sun filtered through the broken shades I’ve grown to live with. Combined with the sound of obnoxious beeping, I knew I wasn’t going back to sleep anytime soon. Turning over to turn off my alarm clock, I groan away the weird dream. What was it about again?

Eh, whatever, not like it mattered anyway. Stretching out slightly relieved me of whatever tension lingered from the night before. Eventually, my gaze fell back onto that damned clock. OH, SHI- “ MY DATE’S IN AN HOUR!”

it's currently 11:30 pm, and i'm going to share my take on the markiverse that i shall pull completely out of my ass.

it all starts when a homie named actor murders himself to frame a dude for 'making his wife leave him' bc he's sexist and bad and doesn't think women have free will.

after this happens an old friend of his (mayor meowmeow) and actor's ex-wife and mayor meowmeow's twin sister (2econd 2ight 2eer by will wood) get yoinked into a mirror dimension. they do a steven universe fusion and become a demon known as darkiplier (villainbutnot).

see, villainbutnot sacrificed the district attorney (viewer) so that they could take their body bc everyone thinks that viewer is hot, always. (it's true <3 /p)

now, this brings us to the end of iswm where villainbutnot finds a crystal on the ground. he says the line that people find hot, and put that bitch on a box.

here's the fun part, now that box is in a museum. viewer and heist!mark (thief) steal said box from said museum. this is where viewer is allowed to start making choices.

if you go down the 'correct' path of choices, a crazy scientist lady will tell you that taking the box caused the universe to split into a multiverse. however, it's not the box causing the rift, but the crystal itself.

for instance, in one of them a musical prisoner (my boy) will sing at you to stay. in another, a captain will kill mark and will take you on his ship.

almost all of these 'endings' happen at the same time. EXCEPT for the TRUE ending, the one where the scientist tells you what happened (i'll get to this in a moment). when the scientist destroys the box, it takes you to the 'correct' universe, efficiently setting up space. it, however, DOES NOT 'fix' the rift

now, before that universe can happen, we need iswm to happen.

in iswm, the way these universes are 'connected' is via the wormhole. i'm assuming that all of these happen at the same time, similar to heist, minus the ending itself. yknow, the one where villainbutnot finds the crystal?

lastly, we have adwm to wrap everything up, once and for all.

how do we know that it goes heist, space, date? well, there are two reasons.

firstly is the 'noir' universe in iswm. mark's inner monologue states "maybe i'll as them on that date sometime." after that comes heist, and the true ending where mark asks us on a date "hey, wanna go on that date?" and then, finally, the actual date.

second is in ahwm where my boy claims he doesn't wanna leave, and hadn't met you yet, but knows you by the time iswm happens. we also see that actor is currently doing parole (which could link yancy and actor, though i highly doubt it)

"but river!" i hear you ask "what about the part in iswm where mark takes you on your second date!" i promise, i hear you. your questions come to me like a distant scream in a memory of what once was.

now, for this to happen, the warp crystal must be in one piece, which is why villainbutnot found it again, setting us up with this "so much trouble... all for something so small" line. he knew what he was dealing with, it was an endless loop.

WHICH IS WHY he is so adamant on taking your choices away in date. he's tired of it all.

so how does wmlw and damien fit into this? well, wmlw happens always, it never stops. this is one universe that loops for all of eternity, which explains seeing wilford in the same scene in both wmlw and iswm2.

damien happens almost directly after wkm, this is what caused villainbutnot to mess with every mark.

READY FOR ALL OF THE LOOSE ENDS TO BE TIED UP LIKE A PERFECT PICTURE??

this is because ALL OF THESE UNIVERSES ARE ALL BEING CONTROLLED BY ACTOR WHILE YOU'RE STUCK IN THE MIRROR!!

REMEMBER WHEN IRL MARK SAID THAT ENGINEER MARK ISN'T ACTOR BUT ACTOR IS ENGINEER MARK?? THIS IS HOW!!

engineer had no knowledge of this; actor is like a puppeteer!! he controls all of these stories!! this is why there's no viewer character in wmlw and damien!! because those are true stories, not ones that actor made up!!

this is why we see actor in adwm in the meta ending! he made all of these for his own entertainment, making you the 'star of the show' so you wouldn't catch onto him!!

but this all just a theory.

“A Heist With Markiplier” Theory

Okay, so I know Mark has said that canonically, the box in A Heist With Markiplier contains only the BTS and Bloopers videos. I also know Mark is very much a “word of god” type writer, and has stated whatever is not presented in video format is usually not canon. However, I had a lot of fun crafting this theory for me and a friend, and I wanted to share it here. :)

SPOILERS FOR HEIST AHEAD! Also for Who Killed Markiplier and A Date With Markiplier, but those are over two years old now. You’ve been warned!

So, hear me out. What if, rather than just being a meta link to the bloopers, the “Box” in A Heist With Markiplier contains the curse afflicting Markiplier Manor, and the source of Darkiplier/Wilford Warfstache’s power?

I know it sounds like a crack theory, but hear me out. The majority of the endings don’t point towards this theory at all; the only indication that it would be even SLIGHTLY related would be the glitching when Heist!Mark first picks up the box (which could just be the anomaly beginning but still). However, it was on one of my rewatches, specifically the one containing Professor Beauregard and the “canon ending” that this theory slapped me across the face.

For the most part, Professor Beauregard is just another stereotypical character created by Mark: the science nut, spouting big words and crackpot theories. But her dialogue, specifically describing the anomaly, gave me several flashbacks to Who Killed Markiplier. Here I’ll break it down into different phrases that caught my attention.

1. “You haven’t noticed things going unnaturally fast?” Multiple time jumps occur in Who Killed Markiplier, with two obvious instances coming to mind: the District Attorney going to sleep after the party in Episode One and waking up seconds later, and when Celine leads them upstairs for her seance in Episode Three, when it skips from bright daytime to the middle of the night. The jumps where Abe gets dressed after asking for his fingerprinting kit and Celine sets up her table after asking for her bag are minor examples as well.

2. “Things happening out of order from one another?” You could argue that the random teleportation from one room to another, from upstairs to downstairs, could be an example of this. Additionally, though the party in Episode One takes place from the District Attorney’s perspective, the events hop around in a montage, which considering the context of the rest of the series is more than a little weird.

3. “Strange coincidences?” There are only a few instances of this: Celine showing up right when Abe and the Colonel are fighting, Mark falling from the ceiling right as the District Attorney comes down the stairs, and George mentioning the “one reason” he’ll enter the house directly before Celine is possessed.

4. “Bizarre memories of things you haven’t even done yet?” During Celine’s seance, the District Attorney views a premonition of their conversation with George on the grounds. Also, when they are “teleported” from upstairs to Abe’s investigation room, Abe’s yet-to-occur conversation with the Colonel is audible in the background.

5. “All within the last 24 hours?” This could just apply to the Heist being compressed in a one-day time frame, but the events of Who Killed Markiplier also occur in a roughly 24- to 36- hour period.

Now, the gathering of evidence is all well and good. But it still doesn’t offer an explanation as to why. Why would Heist!Mark go out of his way to steal an artifact that causes such anomalies, and more curious, why would he hide it from the viewer? The answer is simple: Heist!Mark is equivalent to Actor!Mark, and his quest for the box is an attempt to defeat Darkiplier, the so-called villain in his story.*

Dark’s words in Ending 31 are what get me here. “Do you really wanna know what’s inside this box? The truth. Not the lies he’s told you, but the truth.” Dark is adamant that the Viewer discovers what is inside the box, rather than be simply told by Mark, who he clearly sees negatively: “same snake, different skin.” Mark assumes that the Viewer will believe him, but he also wants to make sure that Dark doesn’t get his foot in the door. By taking the box, he has control over his only enemy, power that would be invaluable to any protagonist. He doesn’t object (much) to Professor Beauregard destroying the box in the “canon ending,” perhaps because he was intending to do it himself. Destroying the box, to him, could’ve also meant destroying Dark (and by extension Wilford) and ending his “game” once and for all.

But clearly, destroying the box doesn’t work. In the canon ending, Mark asks the Viewer on a date, which is implied to be A Date With Markiplier. And thanks to the Meta, Chocolate, and True endings of that series, we know that not only is Actor!Mark alive and well, but Dark and Wilford are still here. Markiplier Manor has already done its work, and Mark’s enemies are here to stay. Their very existence causes the temporal inconsistencies Professor Beauregard was trying to stop: time jumps, out-of-order events, and memories of events that never occured.

TL;DR: The box contains the curse inflicted upon Markiplier Manor, which in turn gives Darkiplier and Wilford Warfstache their powers.

Phew, that was a doozy! This is probably the longest text post I’ve ever written in my life. It occurred to me the second or third time I watched AHWM’s true ending, and I knew I had to share. This isn’t meant to be taken as “canon” by any means, since Mark is ultimately the creator and decides where his work goes, but I loved piecing the puzzle together! You could argue for the curse coming into play in DAMIEN and Wilford Motherloving Warfstache as well, but that would make this post even longer than it already is, and I’ll spare y’all’s brain cells.

*I know that not everyone subscribes to the theory that Date!Mark is the same as Actor!Mark, but I thought it would be a fun little connection all the same. Again, don’t take me too seriously, I was just having way too much fun with this!

So, we all want answers to what heckedy heck is really in that box, right?

well maybe we don’t need to know? Or can’t know, y’know?

Mark has always said that we focus too much on the details and the who killed who (wink wonk)

SO, I was watching ahwm through again, and I stopped to theorize about what Dark texts us :

and yeah, first it sounded just really bitter against actor Mark to me but the last two texts:

Maybe that’s Mark hinting us through Dark the same thing he hinted us through Wilford in wmw (and the videos where he explains everything)

In ahwm we go round and round again the same story, only a different outcome every time, but still it’s a loop, like running in circles

We are in a loop and it’s weird that we don’t question it

And also in ending 16 Wilford just takes the box saying “enough with that” maybe hinting to forget the box?

Oh yeah, Dark’s video (the end name) plus one of the pirate videos has a text in description saying ‘Ignorance is bliss’

and we know from the ending 6 ‘The end’, that the box is a anomaly that makes time weird, cuts from a scene to another one but we don’t question it at all

could perhaps the box be making everything weird also in adwm? Maybe in adwm the box still exists and the scientist in ahwm didn’t destroy it correctly? 

My conclusion? What’s inside the box isn’t too important as it changes every time (route), depending on what we need in that timeline and that we should focus more on other stuff, stuff that Dark tells/asks us (or can we trust Dark)

Maybe we need to wait to get answers or we are focusing too much on the wrong things?

(also I think Dark is contacting us through video descriptions but thats a long shot anyway)

My final conclusion? Don’t have one, sorry, enjoy your theorizing!

(I just needed to get my thoughts out, sorry if someone has said this or a similar thing already)

I realized that we should have figured out from the very first video of Part II that ISWM was a prequel, that it happens before AHWM.

Why?

Heist was not there on the shelf as a bedtime story.

A Heist with Markiplier is not here because it hasn't happened yet. (In that moment. Kinda.)
