AN: Yes I *know* I have a request I need to finish, but after I saw our sweet Fennorian was coming back in the ESO reveal I had to go back and finish this one to celebrate.
This is actually one of the darker ones I've written, so just be cautious if blood isn't your thing. (Also Gwendis is a menace but I love her dearly. Bless.)
~~~~~~~~~~~
The Gray Host ambush was just that- an ambush. Masterfully planned and executed, Verandis' protégé and the Vestige were caught completely off guard. House Ravenwatch fought valiantly, and with the Vestige at their side it seemed to be going well. Until Fennorian tried to help Gwendis as a tag team and they both were sent flying back.
The Vestige snapped and let the bloodlust take over. Hircine's gift ripped through her as the beast inside roared in her ears. Only one thing on her mind: Save them.
When things calmed down somewhat, and no more Gray Host to be seen, the Vestige stood in the middle of the room in all her werewolf glory. Covered in blood, cuts, gashes, and flecks of robes, most people would be terrified and run the opposite direction. Not Fennorian.
"Listen to me- listen to me- It's all right, you're fine," he tried to soothe her. He knew he was taking a huge risk approaching her in her werewolf form when she was still coming down from the blood rush. If she spooked or snapped... He didn't want to think about it.
Her chest heaved as she panted, hard. Glowing yellow eyes with dangerously thin pupils bored into him. Deep, low warning growls rumbled in her ribcage. Every muscle in her body was visibly tensed, ready to either fight or flee.
When she didn't attack, Fenn took a tentative step forward, palms up. And another. And another. Until he was standing directly in front of the Vestige, his eyes level with hers. The intensity of her powerful gaze tested his nerves. But he was determined to help her.
Slowly, cautiously, the vampire wrapped his arms around the werewolf's neck. The sickly sweet smell of the blood on her maw nearly made him ill. Had he not just recently fed, he might have been in trouble with so much of it so close to his face.
"It's all right, my friend," he whispered. "You're safe. We're safe. I'm here. I've got you..."
Nobody moved. No one dared to breathe. The only sound was the Vestige's heavy exhalations and growling. Fennorian began gently moving his hands back and forth in her fur, rubbing her shoulders. As he did, he tried to talk to her again. If he could just get through to her-
"You don't have to fight them anymore," he murmured into her thick fur, "You defeated them. We're safe. Myself, Gwendis, Adusa.. We're all safe..."
Suddenly he felt his words starting to work- the werewolf's shoulders physically relaxed and she let out a guttural sigh.
"Please, you don't have to do this. Just- just come back to m- us-" Fennorian's voice cracked painfully as he pleaded with her.
It was Gwendis who saw it before Fenn felt it: the Vestige's knees starting to shake, threatening to give out. In a puff of black mist, she disappeared and reappeared next to her brother. The wood elf vampire sprinted to Fenn's opposite side and helped him in supporting their lycan companion.
And not a moment too soon- the Vestige's knees finally gave out and she collapsed into, and onto, them. She let out a strangled choking sound as Fennorian and Gwendis cushioned her fall. Fenn's heart nearly broke as he listened to her whimpering and whining, her wolven body shaking as the blood rush finally dissipated.
"It's all right, friend. Take it easy," Gwendis ran her hands through the Vestige's coarse, smokey gray fur. "You did amazing, you did that all by yourself," a smile was evident in her voice as she tried her own soothing words.
The Vestige tried to stand up, but her spent and exhausted body just couldn't support itself right now. Her lycanthropic form took so much from her with this battle. She felt a pair of arms under her chin and they gently rested on someone's lap. She glanced up and locked eyes with Fennorian. He could see her tired, dull yellow eyes, lacking the primal glow from earlier.
Adusa-daro decided it was safe enough to make herself known. Just like Gwendis, the Khajiiti vampire disappeared in a cloud of black mist and joined her siblings. "This one is impressed, Fennorian. I was not sure you would be able to bring her back."
He continued stroking the Vestige's fur and sighed, "Truth be told, neither did I. I'm not sure how I did it."
"Well, he did," Gwendis piped in, also petting the pacified werewolf. "And he did a damn fine job. You should be proud of yourself, Fennorian."
He nodded, his gaze never leaving the Vestige. "We have to get her back home. She's hurt and needs help."
The ladies nodded. "I can arrange for transportation. Discreet transportation," Gwendis said. "You stay here with her, Fenn."
"This one will go ahead and let Verandis know. He can set up a room for her to rest," Adusa offered up.
Fennorian, more or less on autopilot, nodded again. "I'll stay here with her. Keep an eye on her."
~*~
Gwendis rounded the hallway corner and knocked on the door. She waited. Fennorian didn't answer. She knocked again. Still no answer. A twist of the doorknob showed the door wasn't even locked. As it swung open, she poked her head in.
Fenn was sitting on the bed, propped against the headboard, sound asleep, with the Vestige. She had since reverted back from her werewolf transformation, though she was in the same position she fell asleep in: her big, furry head resting in Fenn's lap, one arm around his torso. His own arm, which had been on her back while she was a werewolf, was now draped across her human shoulders.
His sister couldn't help but smile as she quietly closed the door. They'd be fine. And she knew Fenn would tear apart anyone who touched the Vestige. She'd leave them be for now.
The playful teasing she'd give them later, however, was another story.
hope work was ok! i'd love to know if you have any headcanons about how the ravenwatch became vampires and/or how verandis found them?
Thanks it was kinda stressful but it's over now! :D
I'm excited for this ask! Such good questions
I think for Fennorian his is the hardest. I've had the most time to ruminate on his backstory (because of all the writing and stuff) and I typically HC him as coming from a rich noble family somewhere in Summerset. I also get the vibe that he didn't have a good family life prior to the Ravenwatch. With how quickly he's able to brush off acts of kindness or compliments towards himself... I think even if he was just a super sensitive person, he leans into the "People don't like me BECAUSE I'm a vampire" crutch just way too easily for it to be the whole story.
I think it's the justification he's been mentally searching for for years. He doesn't understand when Lyris and the Vestige risked their lives for him and again, something about the tone of that part of the game just makes me think he didn't have many friends and that his family was hard on him, picking him apart often.
Now the complicated part. I feel like maybe Fennorian did something his parents didn't like (Probably that he liked alchemy before he was even turned, and just hid it because his parents didn't approve since it wasn't related to the family business and he was the sole heir, and they found out one day or something) and kicked him out of the house because they were so mad at him. Now, they fully intended to go get him once he'd "learned his lesson," but by then, a vampire's already found and bit him.
I really like the idea that Verandis is somehow distantly related to him, so I feel like Verandis could have been near by when it happened. Maybe Verandis even saw it happen? (If you really wanted to make things interesting!) But I like tragic stories, so I think Fennorian spent a week or two out accidentally terrorizing the countryside, and maybe THAT is why he is so instant on staying away when he needs a little blood.
For Gwendis I feel like her turning was by complete accident and a stroke of bad luck. (Not that the others weren't, but you'll see what I mean.) I feel like she came from a pretty average family, with the way she acts she either was an only child or always a middle child like she is now. I think she was out one night with her family and they got preyed on by some vampires. The tragic idea is maybe she was the only one to survive, but I HC that she was the only one attacked (for whatever reason). Gwendis gives off "Best Friend" vibes. Just her way of talking is very conversational and draws you to her. So she either was a really lonely child, or definitely a middle child with siblings to spend all of her time with.
I don't know why but I feel like Verandis found Gwendis soon after she'd been turned. She was either dying when he found her and nursed her back to health, or he found her wandering the woods confused and scared and above all else angry. Gwendis has always been a smartass, but she's also always been regular old "street"-smart. So when a handsome older vampire approaches her offering respite, she doesn't take the "bait." It takes some convincing, but eventually she sees she can trust him, and before she knows it, Gwendis is loyal to a fault.
Adusa has a rep for being a bit of a "rebel." Or at least we learn so during the By Love Betrayed quest when talking to Freyleth. She says, "Suffice it to say, Adusa and I ran together a long time ago. Before she traded her claws for the life of a noble." Then a little while later she says, "I found Adusa right after her change. She was young and wild. We hunted. We killed. We drank our fill and then drank some more. But she had a streak of virtue I could never wipe out."
So I think that Adusa already was a bit of a wild child and got into some bad stuff on her own. Maybe she had a group of bad influenced friends. She probably didn't mind petty crime, I'm thinking like trespassing and pickpocketing. So when she was turned, Adusa was already used to just doing what she felt drawn too. Maybe it was harder for her to curve the cravings and so she just did what she wanted, always feeling bad about it afterward though. Especially the longer it went on.
I like to think maybe one night out with Freyleth they got into some pretty big trouble and Verandis was in town. He'd probably heard about some vampires picking people off in big numbers. And when he preached another way to live to Adusa, she jumped at the chance, unable to believe there was a better way. But by then the guilt was so big, she had to risk it. (Besides, she knew she was tough, and believed that she would make it out if things went South.) I think she does what she does now to make up for the things she did when she was younger, especially when she was first turned.
*Quotes totally taken from the UESP. (Such a helpful guide!)
was going through your amicia tag and in one post you said that little amicia stayed at castle ravenwatch for awhile because her father studied with verandis when he was young, and now i'd love to know what sort of antics little ami got up to there lmao. also what was her first meeting with verandis like? how did the other ravenwatch members take to her?
Yes indeed she did! It’s probably one of my fave parts of Amicia’s lore because not only does it tie into the main (DC) story & Greymoor DLC with her connection to the Ravenwatch, it’s just fun to think about the shenanigans she got up to 😂 I also headcanon this is kind of a family tradition for House Cumberland that goes back centuries to maintain a good relationship with House Ravenwatch! Verandis taking in the young generations to teach is a very cute idea to me ♡
The first time Amicia met Verandis was actually when the Daggerfall Covenant was first formed, as he was of course there to advocate for Emeric’s proposition. She didn’t speak to him directly though, she just knew he was important to her father. Despite this, it didn’t stop her from being an absolute menace when it was time to be his understudy 😅 Ami has always been high strung and getting into places she shouldn’t be, like Verandis’s office and wandering outside trying to find hidden places. She was a handful to wrangle and teach, but Verandis has a surprising way of appealing to just about anybody. Eventually, he finds an ultimatum to get her to be more compliant 😂
As for the other members of the Ravenwatch, she only really saw Adusa and Gwendis. They mostly did their own thing, but Amicia being herself likes to tag along whether you like it or not. She got along with Gwendis the best, since they are pretty similar (re: up to no good 😏) Adusa was too much of a stickler for rules for Ami to get along with, but came around to her mom vibes lmao.
All around, Ravenwatch Castle definitely became a second home so to speak, despite them being a bit of a pariah amongst other noble houses (Ami understands). Which I guess makes their quests hit a little harder for her during the events of ESO :’D
melodii din playlist-ul meu pe care le asociez cu lecturile obligatorii pentru bac
Ion: Dirty Imbecile by The Happy Fits (https://open.spotify.com/track/5erGUceK8ieHWtTXdnGP65?si=ur0YldrnRKum3Qwzahr5Ww)- o melodie despre o persoana ce este mult mai mult decat ce apare a fi initial, un om cu un plan, gata sa distruga pe oricine i-ar sta in cale pana ce realizeaza ca victoria nu e la fel de dulce daca nu are pe cine vrea langa el; melodia este ritmata si iti vine sa dansezi pe ea, dar are multe straturi and if you listen to it bit by bit poate fi... a lot.
Moara cu Noroc: Freaking Out by The Wrecks (https://open.spotify.com/track/4RZro2r6RHC2ldpNuDbJso?si=XCdT8WqQRlOzzqFl6pWa_A) - un cantec despre eternitate, despre tradare si singuratate, despre ce vrei si ce primesti; melodie ritmata ce iti da adrenalina si frica mai degraba decat entuziasm, dar asta te bucura intr-un mod nesanatos.
Povestea lui Harap Alb: Turn the Lights Off by Tally Hall (https://open.spotify.com/track/3xpdefOloYCBXd3UR6MVyM?si=jt4ZSmF2RFa67i9ZKoxr1A) - o piesa muzicala despre frica si maturizare, foarte putin trippy, ambitie transpusa in note muzicale; melodia asta e genul de chestie pe care a-i asculta-o ca sa simti ceva in cele mai grele nopti.
Enigma Otiliei: Kids in America by Kim Wilde (https://open.spotify.com/track/1YGZyfvdgZxzipWoWYVKxi?si=zNuFe052RXyriU5tZZrMqg)- conglomeratul de sunete despre libertate, despre viata pe care chiar vrei sa o traiesti, despre sansa si speranta; melodia e super funky disco funky, ceva ce otilia si-ar pune la casetofonul de zece lei din piata obor.
Ultima Noapte de Dragoste, Intaia Noapte de Razboi: Always Sayin' by The Littlest Man Band (https://open.spotify.com/track/6QbuMwS95wYnh3Q5DYxVSp?si=ghIP76V_RLCvwywguSFrFw)- linia melodica cu versuri adaugate peste ea despre dragoste si lupta, incredere si pierdere, ascensiune sociala si demagogie; melodia e ca un carusel, te duce pe cele mai inalte culmi, doar pentru a te impinge de pe varf intr-o cadere dulce.
Iona: Closet Lunatic by Caro(https://open.spotify.com/track/1lV0cC8CDi6bHHU7RZH4at?si=cUgSANdeRAKEyoxMi1FxBQ)- sunetele ce compun o melodie nu foarte diferita de numele sau, confuzia adusa odata cu nesiguranta a daca ai innebunit sau doar nu ai mai iesit din casa de mult timp, sentimentul ca esti intr-un vis sau speranta slaba ca esti intr-unul; melodia, ca si proza, e ceva in care nu poti avea incredere.
Stiu ca post-ul asta a fost foarte nonsensical si specific, dar a fost extrem de fun de compus. Daca aveti sugestii va rog impartasiti-le cu mine am nevoie de acea serotonina. Also look in the tags for some goodies behind the post info!!
Si daca vreti playlist-ul meu de liked songs de pe spotify DM me ;;). E mult mai haotic decat ce vedeti aici, promit <33.
Here it is! The second chapter of the fake dating au is up! The story is now finished and I hope it was worth the wait!! Sorry it took me so long to get chapter two up!
Don’t forget that lovely cliff hanger I left you all on, okay? :)
The next morning when Erill got out of bed, Fennorian was already wide awake and dressed. He was sitting in a chair on the other side of the room, his nose buried in a book. It had taken a minute for Erill’s anxious heart to remember where they were, and that they were safe. But once she had relaxed, she sat up in the big bed.
“Good morning.” She yawned. Her arms felt stiff, and she needed to crack her back.
Fennorian didn’t look up from his book. “Good morning.” He sounded distant, though not physically.
“Are you okay?” Erill asked.
“Are you?” Fennorian asked, setting his book down. He had an unreadable expression on his face.
I’ve been tagged in a WIP Someday by @siriskulksnerding and have been looking for something to tease!! I’m really excited about this one! I’ve decided to share a snippet of a story I’ve been working on about when Fennorian first arrived at Ravenwatch Castle after being turned. It’s from Gwendis’ POV and I don’t know when it will be done! But I love it so far and am excited to share when it DOES eventually get finished :)
Gwendis remembers the day that Verandis first brought Fennorian into the castle. She had been wary and couldn’t get Verandis’ letter out of her head.
I am pleased to tell you that you’re going to have a new little brother in a few days! You will have to be patient with him, he’s been through a lot. He was only recently turned, so I know that you understand.
But Gwendis didn’t understand. Was their family not enough for Verandis? Were she and Adusa not good enough for Verandis? What would make the Count decide they needed another person in their lives?
As the time for Verandis to return grew closer, Gwendis couldn’t keep the negative thoughts at bay. Gwendis was worried that between herself, Adusa and this new boy, Verandis wouldn’t have enough time for her anymore. She knew she was being silly, but the thought still hurt.
Gwendis stood with Adusa in the foyer, waiting silently. When Verandis arrived, he brought a boy with haunted eyes with him. Gwendis felt her heart drop. The boy might have been taller than her, but he was definitely younger. She felt protective of him immediately. The way he avoided everyone’s eyes and seemed to shrink in on himself. Gwendis could hear that he was grinding his teeth. When the boy’s tooth snagged his lip he winced. His sighs were shaky, and he was terrified.
I’m only saying this because Halloween and vampires go together. I’ve seen no hints suggesting otherwise, but....
I need you guys to SWEAR to me if there’s Ravenwatch House Guests... Ravenwatch ANYTHING in the crown store... You will tag/dm the absolute shit out of me! Do not let me miss anything that might come out. Because I missed Adusa in the Crown store like last year or something and I’m still sad about it
To celebrate our dear Fennorian coming back in Gold Road, I'm re-sharing the fics I've written with him.~
