First of all, lets begin by understanding what sensuality is and what it is not.

There is a world of difference between sexuality and sensuality. they're like night and day.

and you can be one without being another. because of the culture we live in, most people are sexual without being sensuous.

Sensual is understood as involving the five senses but also being sexually suggestive.

Sexual means relating to sex

Sensuality is more about enjoying yourself and life than it is about sexually pleasing or being sexually inviting. Sensual people seem more alive and vibrant because they truly enjoy the simple things and fine things, so they dont sweat the small stuff and usually maintain a calm and relaxed demeanour.

Sexual energy is more frantic, more wild, more aggressive. its very in your face and hard to miss. its someone asking you to give it to them, basically.

Sensuality is self-contentment and enjoying pleasure in all its many forms. be it food, music, dance, art, walking, looking at the sunset. A sensual person just enjoys absolutely everything. When you're in the presence of that energy, you feel similarly relaxed and open. They come across as warm, open and welcoming, its comfortable being around them. Someone who is fully alive will always naturally be perceived as "sexy" because they signal that they're open to enjoyment and pleasure.

All of these are subconscious impressions we form of people in nanoseconds, and whether we know it or not, we all pick up on energy and treat people accordingly. Why do we feel like being nicer to some people and standoffish with others??? its all down to the vibe. you can be a "good" person and still feel like you cant be good to some people who havent even done anything to you. its all just vibes.

I suggest reading Uses of the Erotic by Audre Lorde to understand this more. It's an essay and it's only a few pages long and she describes being erotic as a feeling of being alive.

now onto HOW to be sensual

Sensuality means being fully alive, open and vibrant. So in order to be sensual, you have to embody that.

You correctly said that you're too in your head and feel disconnected to sensuality because in order to be sensual, we have to get out of our head and into our bodies.

Sensuality necessitates forming a deep profound connection with our bodies.

This is why dancing is so sensual. just moving your body can feel so vulnerable but there is nothing as sexy or confident as someone who knows how to move???

there are many dance centered trauma release + "feminine flow" type activities. i know many of you get the ick from hearing things like "feminine flow" and i dont blame you lmao but being feminine, strictly energetically speaking means being relaxed, soft and flowing. thats Yin energy in Daoism.

dating in our era sucks because even men want princess treatment and it shows that Yin energy is def something that can be channelled by people regardless of gender lmfao xD

now many people have adopted a very harsh, aggressive "go-getting" approach to succeeding our toxic capitalist patriarchal world and whilst that might help us make some progress, we're constantly at the risk of burnout. so its in our best interest and for our long term well being to learn how to be chilled out and not sweat the small stuff.

we can win and gain things by fighting for it but isnt it better to gain the same things in a softer gentler way??? you can work 200 hours a week, suck up to your boss and do all the extra work and someone else who does none of that will get 5 promotions while u get nothing. basically, life is not "fair", i.e, our efforts aren't necessarily going to be compensated for adequately and if you can get better results by doing less and chilling more, then whats the harm????

people who go far in life are often just people who are pleasant and fun to have around. look at any self-made individual and they'll have boat loads of charisma. whereas nepo babies wont even know how to hold a conversation bc they never had to lmao

And yes they are 18+ still.

And if anyone is familiar with twitter rps (which is not me. I had to research this), you really can't do that. It's improper twitter RP etiquette.

Also- something that’s been on the back of my mind for a little bit now, is I couldn’t help but feel like Gardevoir kinda looked…off, compared to the other character sprites? And I couldn’t figure out why, because that’s just Gardevoir’s normal Gen IV overworld sprite, but now I think I know. All the other character sprites in this game have like…lighter? Lighter-colored or softer-looking outlines, whereas Gardevoir still has the harder outline with the darker colors more typical of the mainline games (at least as far as pixel art is concerned). I mean, just look at her compared to like- El, or Adrienn, there’s a real difference there, and like it’s been there from the beginning, I think that’s just part of this game’s artstyle, but I think I’m only now really registering it.

Exercise for blah days

been trying to motivate myself to get moving lately bc its been so hard since I haven't had a lot of energy so hopefully this will help someone

A problem I've had a lot is feeling like I have to be all or nothing with exercise, feeling like if I'm not doing intense stuff or popular stuff that its not valid exercise. But I've realized that its more important to just do some sort of movement if you're able than it is to go all out and follow workout routines that will burn me out in a couple of days or weeks.

Now I know that exercise doesn't cure depression or anything, but I also realize that personally, I feel a lot healthier and better about myself when I can get my body moving and feel like im accomplishing something that will help me. so

Walking

Walking is an obvious one, if you're able to get out and do it. Walking may seem easy, but its also very beneficial, especially at a moderate pace, because it builds up your endurance and stretches out your leg muscles. You also get the added benefit of being outside, soaking up sun, and getting some fresh air!

Yoga/Stretching

Yoga is great because there's so many lessons focused on accessibility for beginners and people with mobility issues. You also don't even have to leave your house to do it! Some yoga youtubers even incorporate meditation into their lessons, which is great for mental health. Yoga with Adrienne on YouTube is a great resource, she has so many different lessons for all sorts of purposes and levels. I love doing her yoga to wake up and yoga to calm down flows.

Martial Arts

Martial Arts is kind of a tricky one, since its recommended to go to in person classes before trying it on your own since bad form with some movements might lead to you injuring yourself, however if you have past experience its a great way to get your body moving while having fun and working towards a goal. If you have no prior experience, things like taekwondo forms can be something fun to do, since they're pretty easy and one of the first things you learn. Alex Wong on YouTube has some great examples of kicking and balance drills you can do.

Sports

Another obvious one, but sports can be a great way to have fun and get moving. You don't even have to join a team or anything, just grab a basketball or a soccer ball and head to a local park when its not busy. Most tennis courts will have a wall you can practice against too if you want to try that.

Dancing

Dancing is a great way to get some cardio in and strengthen your muscles while having a lot of fun and learning some cool moves! There's so many videos you can look up to learn dances and dance moves, and its something easy you can do right in your room.

Cleaning

I know cleaning isn't fun by most peoples standards, but I love to throw on some music and make my house feel clean and cozy. Cleaning is a surprisingly good way of getting your body moving, since it involves a lot of motions and sometimes some physical effort. If you're able to get up and clean something, it also does wonders for your mental health to have a clean space to be in.

Playing with your pets

Unless you have a dog, playing with your pets probably won't be too intensive, but hey, they deserve some quality playtime, and it'll make you feel good.

I know these might not be accessible for everyone, but if your able to and want to these are some great things you can try to be more active in your life.

5 Kehinde Wiley This painting of his at the Detroit Institute of Art that I really liked visiting in high school/university. it's just this huge portrait set up high on the wall there so you absolutely have to look up to him.

4 Anselm Kiefer I'm a big fan of huge art that makes me feel tiny in relation. Something about the way it feels in a room, completely unavoidable, you kinda feel it even when your back is turned? Tried to find good pictures of the ones I have seen but I need someone in the picture for scale so here's one

3 Felix Gonzalez-Torres I remember seeing something of his in university, the people I was with kind of scoffed at it like 'this is just two lightbulbs' but it kind of made me cry? It's been over ten years now and I still think about it

2 Olayami Dabls Dabls Mbad Bead Museum in Detroit has these outdoor installations that are just... It's so fantastic! I love museums but being able to just walk through the installations freely, get as close or far from them as you like.

1 Matthew Wong I just recently learned about him but everything I've seen of his is just. So beautiful and emotional and solitary and full. I went with some friends to see an exhibit on Picasso's blue period stuff and the museum paired that with an exhibit of Wong's Blue Series and 100% I care about this stuff so much more.

Devlog #16: Answers and Questions

Hello everyone! Welcome to this month’s devlog!

If you just stumbled upon this, I am Adrienne, also known as insertdisc5! I’m the developer, writer, artist, main programmer, etc of the game. The game being In Stars and Time, a timeloop RPG, which is also the next and final game in the START AGAIN series, following START AGAIN: a prologue (available here!).  You can find out more about In Stars and Time here!!!

Was this ever a fear for you in making START AGAIN, or In Stars and Time? Did you take any special precaution to keep these games within a scope you could handle, and did you learn tricks from START AGAIN that carried over to ISAT when in came to keeping things manageable? Thank you!! ✨

I had no idea that was a piece of advice given, but yep, that makes a lot of sense! Since I didn’t know, I went in blissfully aware, teehee.

I will say that I am familiar with working on big projects from working on comics, and with seeing big webcomic artists always mention to never start with your magnum opus… And I could tell ISAT had the potential to be way bigger than I imagined, which is why I decided to start with creating the prologue to get used to RPGMaker as well as making games. Kind of a pilot of sorts!

Again, thanks to comics, I know to keep my scope pretty small, because even if you keep it small it WILL balloon into something way bigger than you thought. Just for the prologue, I imagined it’d be a 20mn game, and it’s easily a 2-3h one! Keep your scope small!!!

As for tricks, when I catch myself thinking “wow what if I added this cool thing”, I try to always keep in mind those two things: 1. How long will it take to implement (including bug testing), and 2. Does it add something important to the game. I know we always want to add a fishing game, or a fun minigame, but do you Need It. Does it add something substantial to the story, to the Themes. Or are you just adding it because you like fishing games. Which is a valid reason, but also, maybe just make a fishing game instead. You are not the Yakuza series!!!! You are a small indie gamedev!!!! Think about you in 4 months who has to fix all the fishing game bugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s so weird!!! The game has been done for so long!!! I’m very glad I asked some friends to playtest the game, so I could at least get some feedback before the game is out… In some ways it feels like the game will be done twice: once back when I finished making the game, and once when the game actually comes out. It’s just a very strange experience. Sometimes people tell me they’re excited to find out more about this story beat, or about this character, and a part of me is like… Wait, haven't you played the game? Oh, yeah, it’s not actually out. Guess you’ll find out later.

EDIT: My god. I just checked on my private devlog for when I completed the Alpha of ISAT. It was in August of last year (I lay down on the floor and look at the ceiling) (I still had to finish all the illustrations so really the game was Done Donezo in October but still…)

SO MANY THINGS. Here are some of them: support when it comes to porting/marketing/social media/localization, feedback on the game and how to make it better, community guidance, testing support, QA/internal testing… The game couldn’t be the way it is without them.

For more small details, I have a weekly meeting with my producer, Dora! We talk about the game and how everything is going. A couple months back, I also was checking in with the internal QA team fairly often to fix any remaining bugs. They also helped me find ISAT’s additional programmer, Isabella, and she is a godsend because coding is hard. They also take care of communicating with press, finding more opportunities to showcase the game in conventions, talking with the localization/porting teams… I am probably forgetting a thousand little things they did to help out!!! THEY’RE SO GOOD OK

Absolutely! I just went with the obvious. Rock is physical damage, defense focused, Scissors is swords, attack focused, and Paper is magic, mind focused. It was fun to develop a spell system around those! I’m excited for people to find out more about Craft…

I’m so glad you streamed it with friends… I hope you had a good fun time…

And for sure! Isabeau and Mirabelle were pretty set from the get go (himbo and shy wallflower), but Odile started as more of a gentle teacher type, even if I very quickly went the snarky old lady route. Siffrin and Bonnie were harder to pin down– I wasn’t sure how to portray Siffrin’s despair in the prologue, and started showing them more overtly depressed, but I thought it’d be Very Yummy to have them show a happy facade to their friends. And then, for ISAT, I had to figure out what a non-depressed Siffrin would be like, for the first couple acts of the game before the despair sets in. As for Bonnie, I had a lot of trouble figuring out what they’d be like, what kind of kid they were, what their relationship with everyone else would be like, and then I thought about what their past would be like and then their characterization was set in stone. Sometimes you need to figure out One Thing to unlock a character’s brain. I’m very excited for everyone to find out more about each character in ISAT!

What games (or other media) lit a fire under you to create your own?

It could be stuff you liked so much it inspired, something you found frustrating because you felt an itch to do it differently, or something that made you realise humans make things and you could be one of them.

I found a lot of indie games inspiring, but I think Umineko might’ve been the one that made me go… Oh, anyone can just make a massive video game narrative. And you can make it very simple, with kinda goofy sprites, and still manage to make an incredibly touching story!

As for frustrating games that lit a fire under me, I think I’d say in general, I found issue with the classic trope of the “main character helps people and doesn’t get anything back”. What often happens in some games is that you help NPCs with their problems, sometimes helping them with very intense, complicated problems! For a very long time! And, in exchange, you get… A cool item? A nice new skill? And that’s it?

I know this might be complicated to implement on a narrative perspective, but I remember playing Persona 5, and your character just went through a very harrowing experience (like, oh, being INTERROGATED AND TORTURED BY THE POLICE) and you help your friends during social links, and they go “thanks for your help! Bye~” like WHAT ABOUT ME. WHAT ABOUT MY PROBLEMS. CAN YOU GIVE ME A HUG

So on a certain level, I wanted a game where instead of the characters around you having problems, the main character also has problems. And is subconsciously screaming “CAN YOU PLEASE NOTICE I HAVE PROBLEMS AND GIVE ME A HUG.” And hopefully, the characters notice. Winks

Hm. I do want to say I wrote most of the prologue/ISAT during the pandemic, and I felt very lonely and not supported. But then guess what. I told my friends about how I felt. And most of them told me they had no idea, and vowed to support me more. And now I’m closer to them. So the moral of this answer is, yeah, it’d be nice if people noticed, but also, you need to tell people when you’re feeling bad. LOOKS AT SIFFRIN

It’s interesting, the songs I listened to for the prologue are generally more heavy and frenetic, while the ones for ISAT are more hopeful… I made sure to listen to more lively songs for ISAT, since that’s the feeling I wanted to give off…

That’s all the questions I have! In other, non related ISAT news, I have started a new project and having a lot of fun. It’s a visual novel this time. I’m hoping to get some screenshots ready in the next few months, but also I’m taking it easy on this one. If it takes years with many breaks in between to get it done, it’s fine. What matters to me right now is the process!

Understanding Qanon

Both left and right politics have seen surges of conspiratorial thinking, but without question the most organized and politically salient conspiracy theory at the moment is Qanon. In The Atlantic, Adrienne LaFrance dives deep into Q and its context.

As comprehensive as LaFrance's account is, there's one blank spot: why is belief in conspiracies is surging in the first place?

The main explanation - a subtext running through LaFrance's excellent piece - is that algorithmic persuasion is to blame.

That is, the systems that Big Tech built to convince us to buy refrigerators and acne cream are now being hijacked to convince us that pizza parlors are harboring pedophile rings in their (non-existent) basements. I am very skeptical of this account.

First, because the best evidence we have for Big Tech's power to perform these persuasive miracles comes from Big Tech's own marketing puffery, what they tell potential advertisers to justify their rate-cards, and what they tell investors to buoy their share prices.

Neither the source nor the claim is particularly credible. If there's one thing we know, it's hard to convince people of stuff. That, in fact, is the hard problem of advertising, religion, politics, art, and social change. No one has systematized it in an enduring way.

What Big Tech does VERY well, however, is find people. It can find people who are thinking of buying a fridge (a diffuse, hard-to-locate cohort) by targeting people who've shopped for fridges or kitchens, or perused reviews. This isn't a persuasive miracle, it's just spying.

Likewise, Big Tech can help people with fringe ideas locate each other. This is true irrespective of how much you like those fringe ideas: it doesn't matter if the idea is #BlackLivesMatter and gender is a spectrum or white nationalism and the Earth is flat.

I believe what we call "persuasion" is primarily "targeting." If the major barrier to the spread of your message is that you can't find the people who would be receptive to it, Big Tech's people-finding systems can supercharge your ideas.

This works especially well for ideas that invite social disapprobation if you publicly embrace them - which is why the internet is such a godsend for queer kids who fear discussing their sexuality with intolerant friends or parents.

It also works great for conspiracies.

Which raises a different question: why is it so easy to find people who want to believe in conspiracies. My answer: because so many of the things that have traumatized so many people ARE conspiracies.

The opioid epidemic was a conspiracy between rich families like the Sacklers and regulators who rotate in and out of industry. The 737 crisis was caused by Boeing's conspiracy to cut corners and aviation regulators' conspiracy to allow aerospace to regulate itself.

Senators conspire to liquidate their positions ahead of coronavirus lockdown, well-heeled multinationals conspire to get 94.5% of the "small business" PPP fund, Big Tech conspires to fix wages with illegal collusion while fast food franchises do the same with noncompetes.

In a world of constant real conspiracy scandals that destroy lives and the planet, conspiracy theories take on real explanatory power. This is beautifully discussed in Anna Merlan's 2019 book, "Republic of Lies."

All of this is the context for Qanon. Add to that the fact that Q is also a literal industry whose superstars make fortunes - and not necessarily cynically, because, after all, what better proof could you ask for of the truth of Q than the fact that it's making you rich?

Another consequence of making it easier to find people is that groups can coalesce around loosely defined principles. Pre-internet, the high cost of group-forming meant that you would be wasting a lot of effort by grouping with people who disagreed with you on fundamentals.

Eventually, those disagreements would drive you apart and all your group-forming work would be wasted. But lower-cost group forming makes it easier to take risks on making common cause with people you disagree with.

People who criticized Occupy for the lack of a crisply defined program missed this point: by refusing to narrowly define its cause, Occupy could be a broad tent.

Q's gnomic utterances are perfectly suited to exploit this increased appetite for risk in group forming.

Q's nonsensical utterances become an oracle that different kinds of conspirators can project their own fears and aspirations onto, creating multiple, irreconcilable interpretations for these pronunciations.

And that very vagueness and imprecision allows Q followers to find post-facto interpretations that show that Q was right all along (a favorite pastime of mystics from Revelations to Nostradamus).

Q is both a rehash of historical conspiracy pathologies and utterly of this moment, then. It's a phildickian phenomenon, a conspiracy whose gospel reads like the cryptic notes I get from stalkers who are having terrible, paranoid hallucinations.

One of the milestones in my understanding of conspiracists was this outstanding interview with a leading Flat Earther by the Oh No Ross and Carrie podcast:

He describes his satisfaction with Flat Earth as compared with other conspiracies.

By which he means that the community bonds and his ability to have high stature in it are satisfying and that makes it feel true.

These feelings, along with the trauma of real conspiracies, make conspiracism a powerful temptation. That should guide our thinking on Q.

okay, I sent in my ballot a couple of days ago, but I was trying to come up with a unique and interesting prompt, lol. All I got is this: is there an idea that you wanted to explore, but is decidedly non-canon in your stories? Like an AU of your own work. Something wild. Like time travel, haha. (also I stole the idea of motivating people to vote, remind others to vote, or volunteer by providing fic previews. No one has cashed in on my offer but I tried lol)

So, the only AU I can think of for Laws of Inheritance would be if Avery lived and Maxon died. Addy’s an only child, she’s been raised abroad to keep her safe because she’s the last Schreave, and America’s been running things with the advisers in the mean time. Now Addy’s old enough to move home, but she doesn’t know anyone very well, and she’s not culturally very Illéan, but everyone’s expecting her to be Queen. Sometimes there are still rebels. 

Anyway, what a bummer! So instead, I’ll tell you my The Thing with Feathers AU idea. I can’t fully write a challenge of it without giving away the ending of the actual fic (there’d even be clues about the ending in who is cast in certain roles!), but I can give you a very detailed outline. Here goes: 

**The Thing with Feathers Coffee Shop AU/ Lifetime Original Christmas Movie**

- Addy is the heir to the largest coffee shop chain in the world, basically Starbucks. It’s called Schreave’s I guess. 

- Addy gets caught partying with her boyfriend (Martin) by the paparazzi and Maxon realizes his socialite daughter needs Discipline. He’s like, “Adrienne, you will enroll in school in the fall and you will work part-time at the coffee shop on campus (they have a Schreave’s on campus). And Addy’s like, “I don’t need to know how to make coffee, I need to know how to manage a global brand, that’s totally different!” but she’s in too much trouble, so she has to go. 

- Her little siblings are the exact same, but they get to do all the normal stuff they want. Lief can ride rollercoasters and Jamesy is in the Boy Scouts, and Maisy’s the star of her private school soccer team. 

- Addy starts school and she’s surprised that she actually likes it. Her brand management classes are really practical, so she doesn’t even have to buy a textbook. Most students know she’s an heiress, but some people just think it’s funny that she has the same last name as that coffee shop chain. 

- On the other hand, she’s never had to work a part-time job before, and her manager (Lenore!) is very hard on her. Addy only got the job because her dad is Mr. Starbucks (okay, Schreave’s), and Lenore makes Addy do all the lame stuff (washing machinery, carrying in shipments of milk and coffee beans) and won’t let her do any of the fun stuff (drawing on the chalkboard to advertise today’s specials, learning to make fun latte foam art). 

- Then one day, a cute boy walks in. I won’t tell you his name, but he’s Addy’s future husband. He just orders his drink and leaves her a really nice tip and that’s it. Lenore makes fun of Addy for making googly eyes at him while he leaves the shop. Addy is a bazillionaire, so she will save every tip he ever gives her in a coffee can (Hello, America’s penny jar!) 

- The boy comes back the next day and the next day. Addy learns his order and gets it ready for him just before he arrives, and then one day she gets bold and writes her phone number on the cardboard sleeve that covers his coffee! 

- He doesn’t call her or text her all day, and she’s DYING of embarrassment because like, maybe she read him wrong and he doesn’t like her?? Now she has to see him again the next day and he ignored her! BUT

- he texts her that night and they start a cute little texting exchange, they learn about each other’s families and favorite books and tv shows, and they get to know each other through that way. He still only comes by the coffee shop to pick up his order, leave her a tip, and go. Addy draws him doodles on his coffee sleeves every time. He saves every single coffee sleeve, starting with the phone number one, and will keep them forever just like Addy keeps the tips, but Addy doesn’t know that yet!

- Addy catches Lenore studying for an exam when she’s supposed to be working, but instead of dunking on Lenore as revenge for how hard she’s been on Addy, Addy just helps her study and by the end of the night they’re cool. 

- There’s a football game coming up, so Addy writes on the sleeve of Future Husband’s coffee, asking if he wants to go with her. He returns to the coffee shop that afternoon (his first time ever to make a second trip in the same day), just to give her her ticket and offer to walk with her from her dorm to the stadium that night. Their first date! The game is fun, their school wins, they go eat dinner at the diner afterwards, they kiss each other goodnight. 

- They go on a few more dates after that, and Addy’s feelings are getting serious, but wait! Her dad is coming into town to give her a ride to a ski resort on the family private jet for the holidays. How will he feel if Addy tells him she’s started dating someone? Probably bad, because the last time she got in trouble it was with her ex-boyfriend! She has to keep Future Husband a secret! 

- But Addy’s all lovelorn and listless, even though it’s Christmas, and she misses her cute boyfriend and her shifts at the coffee shop. She knows how to make her dad’s favorite order now which impresses him. He’s very proud of her, and impressed with how much she’s grown in her semester at school, but he can tell that she’s not happy. America notices Addy all curled up on one of those window bay seats overlooking a gorgeous ski lift, texting and sighing, and finally gets Addy to admit it. She has serious feelings for a boy, but she’s a coffee heiress and it’s complicated

- It turns out America was just a normal teenage girl from South Carolina when she met Maxon by chance! It was the first time Clarkson had ever sent Maxon out on his own to handle a negotiation. Maxon was supposed to meet with local farmers about supplying the coffee shop chain with milk and produce in that region. He also met with artists whose paintings they would feature on the coffee shop walls in that area. That’s how Maxon met Shalom, who brought America along for the meeting to help carry his sample paintings. The rest was history!

- So if Maxon could marry some painter’s daughter from the middle of nowhere in South Carolina, why couldn’t Addy date a student at her school? Addy tells her mother Future Husband’s name, and America works her magic, but Addy doesn’t know it yet. 

- Addy spends Christmas eve night with her siblings, playing in the snow. They go to sleep, but all Addy wants for Christmas is Future Husband. 

- The next morning, guess who’s sitting in the living room of their million-dollar ski lodge penthouse? Future Husband! America snuck his phone number from Addy’s phone and convinced Maxon to use his connections to fly Future Husband to the ski resort overnight.

- Does Addy get other rich-people things for Christmas, like diamonds and expensive laptops or something? Of course! But her real present is Future Husband, who is going to spend the rest of winter break with her, getting to know the fam. They’ll even get to spend New Year’s Eve together! I hope this won't turn into a huge post, but who's who within the Swedish royal family? Maybe you have a masterpost from previous years? (PS this is the new SRF fan from before 💖😌)

Ah yay, you’re finding out stuff! I’m sure I did a post like this before but I can’t find it so I’m going to do a new one. It’s long so I’ve put it below a cut

King Carl XVI Gustaf-

Position: The King! 

Born: 30th April 1946 to Princess Sibylla and Prince Gustaf Adolf. 

Royal story: His father died when he was 4 and he became heir to the throne. He became King in 1973 at the age of 27. 

Interests: scouting, the environment, sports and industry. 

Fun fact: he became an internet meme for his choice of weird hats

Queen Silvia

Position: Queen consort 

Born: 23rd December 1943 in Heidelberg, Germany to a German father- Walther Sommerlath- and Brazilian mother, Alice de Toledo Sommerlath

Royal story: Met Carl Gustaf at the Munich Olympics where she was working as a hostess in 1972. They married in 1976. 

Interests: dementia care, children’s rights, and the arts. 

Fun fact: In addition to Swedish, she can speak 5 other languages: German, English, French, Spanish and Portuguese.

Crown Princess Victoria

Position: First in line to the throne. 

Born : 14th July 1977 to King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia. 

Royal story: She was initially superseded by her younger brother but Sweden changed the law in 1980 and at 2 years old she became the Crown Princess. 

Interests: The environment, children’s health, disability

Fun fact: She was one of the first royals to support the LGBTQI+ community when she attend GayGalan, an awards ceremony, in 2013. Her attendance was a complete surprise. When she went to award Gay of the Year where she received a two minute standing ovation 

Prince Daniel

Position: Husband of the first in line to the throne 

Born : 15th September 19 July 1973 to Olle and Ewa Westling

Royal Story: Daniel ran a chain of gyms, Balance, which became popular with the rich and famous in Stockholm. The gym and Daniel were recommended to Victoria by her little sister. She started visiting Daniel as her personal trainer and eventually in 2001/2 it blossomed into a romance. They were engaged in 2009 and married in 2010. 

Interests: Entrepreneurship, technology, health research, and sports 

Fun fact: Daniel’s father Olle donated a kidney to him in 2009. 

Princess Estelle

Position: Second in line to the throne

Born: 23rd February 2012 to Prince Daniel and Crown Princess Victoria

Royal Story: Princess Estelle is also Duchess of Östergötland, a position she was given by the King after she was born. She visited her Duchy for the first time in 2014 and has regularly attended royal engagements with her parents and other members of her family 

Fun fact: When her mother was pregnant, she said that Estelle would rather have a hamster than a little brother or sister!

Prince Oscar

Position: Third in line to the throne

Born: 2nd March 2016 to Prince Daniel and Crown Princess Victoria

Royal Story: Prince Oscar is also Duke of Skåne. He made his first visit to his Duchy a few days ago! He has also attended events with his family including travelling to Italy and the USA with his parents 

Fun fact: The little prince’s nickname in the family is Oscis

Prince Carl Philip

Position: Fourth in line to the throne

Born: 13th May 1979 to King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia. 

Royal story: He was born as the heir to the throne, above his big sister.  Sweden changed the law in 1980 and at 1 year old his position in line to the throne was flipped with his big sister

Interests: Dyslexia, agriculture, sports, and the military 

Fun fact: Carl Philip is a big fan of design and started up his own design firm, Bernadotte Kylberg 

Princess Sofia

Position: Wife of the fourth in line to the throne

Born: 6th December 1984 to Erik and Marie Hellqvist 

Royal story: Sofia was a model and reality TV star. She briefly lived in New York City where she worked as a yoga instructor. She met Carl Philip through a mutual friend in 2010. They became engaged in 2014 and married in 2015.

Interests: Bullying, health, and children’s rights

Fun fact: Sofia established her own charity in 2010, Project Playground. The charity supports children in South Africa, particularly through the provision of youth clubs and recreational activities. 

Prince Alexander

Position: Fifth in line to the throne

Born: 19th April 2016 to Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia

Royal Story: Prince Alexander is also Duke of Södermanland. He made his first visit to his Duchy in 2018. 

Fun fact: Alexander accompanied his father to the ceremonial handing over of Christmas trees to the palace where he wore a santa hat!

Prince Gabriel

Position: Sixth in line to the throne

Born: 31st August 2017 to Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia

Royal Story: Prince Gabriel is also Duke of Dalarna. He has yet to visit his Duchy, Dalarna 

Fun fact: Gabriel’s Duchy Dalarna was the childhood home of his mother Princess Sofia

Princess Madeleine

Position: Sixth in line to the throne 

Born: 10th June 1982 

Royal story: Madeleine is the youngest of the Swedish royal siblings. She is also Duchess of Hälsingland and Gästrikland. She moved to the United States following the break up of her engagement to Jonas Bergström in 2010. She has not lived in Sweden full time since but returns for a small number of engagements each year

Interests: Children’s rights and the arts 

Fun fact: Madeleine is a board member of the World Childhood Foundation, a children’s rights organisation founded by her mother Queen Silvia

Chris O’Neill

Position: Husband to the sixth in line to the throne

Born: 27th June 1974 in London to American Paul O’Neill and Austrian Eva Maria O'Neill (an ex of Prince Charles)

Royal story: While working in New York in the financial industry he became romantically involved with Madeleine, with whom he shared mutual friends. They began dating in NYC in 2010/2011. They got engaged in 2013 and married in 2014. Chris chose not to take a title so that he could continue with his business interests. They moved to London in 2015 and Florida in 2018. 

Interests: n/a- Chris does not perform charitable activities for the Swedish royal family 

Fun fact: There is an unconfirmed story that when Chris first fell for Madeleine he quietly donated $100,000 to her mum’s charity the World Childhood Foundation. He didn’t want Madde to know but of course she found out! 

Princess Leonore

Position: Eighth in line to the throne

Born: 20th February 2014 in New York City to Princess Madeleine and Chris O’Neill

Royal Story: Princess Leonore is Duchess of Gotland. She made her first visit to her Duchy in 2016. She has attended a number of other events where she has earned a reputation for her wild behaviour. She has never permanently lived in Sweden and will lose her title and position in the line of succession if she does not attend school in Sweden from the legally required age 

Fun fact: Leonore has both Swedish and US citizenship

Prince Nicolas

Position: Ninth in line to the throne

Born: 15th June 2015 to Princess Madeleine and Chris O’Neill

Royal Story: Prince Nicolas is Duke of Ångermanland. He has never permanently lived in Sweden and will lose his title and position in the line of succession if he does not attend school in Sweden from the legally required age

Fun fact: Nicolas is apparently a book worm and his mum said that if they can’t find him he’s usually in the corner reading a book

Princess Adrienne

Position: Tenth in line to the throne

Born: 9th March 2018 to Princess Madeleine and Chris O’Neill

Royal Story: Princess Adrienne is Duchess of Blekinge. Duke of Ångermanland. She has never permanently lived in Sweden and will lose her title and position in the line of succession if she does not attend school in Sweden from the legally required age 

Fun fact: She’s kind of too little to have any cute stories but she’s adorable!!
