How do I Learn Linux or *BSD for DevOps, Sysadmin, or Programming?

The "cold turkey hacker method".

Daily drive one. Make it your main system. Use as many native tools from that distro or BSD system as possible.

Don’t copy-paste shit blindly. Read, understand, then type.

No dual booting or virtualization. VMs and dual booting give you an easy reset. They encourage reinstalling over fixing issues. You’ll never learn that way.

No compatibility layers (e.g., Wine, Linuxulator on FreeBSD, Waydroid). If you’re using non-native tech, you’re defeating the purpose of this guide.

Make this your only system. Your only personal computing device should be the OS you're learning.

How to Learn:

Learn by trial.

Learn by error.

Learn by doing.

Learn by creating.

Learn by experimentation.

Learn by failure.

Learn by exposure.

Stop:

Stop reading guides.

Stop following "must-do’s" from others.

These rarely help you learn the intricacies of your system.

There is no "right way" to learn this. Just long, hard, grueling, labor.

Where to Start:

Learn the basics first. The manpages, the wiki, the handbook, the FAQ. Official documentation is your first stop.

Build knowledge from there. Use what you learn to make solutions following the standard practices of your system.

Actively work on your system. Constantly push it to do what you want it to do.

TL;DR:

Make your system do what you want. To do that, you need to understand its capabilities first. Start there.

I give you a rough draft of the world that Beauty and the Beast takes place in. I am not sure if the map is going to look the best on Tumblr (though opening it in another tab can help) but I hope it's something. This is primarily just showing the names of kingdoms and a rough estimate of their borders. So that you can get an idea of where the cast is from whenever their ethnicity is given or they talk about having done a contract somewhere.

Now, in reality, this is a world coming out of the feudal age but it's still fairly feudal. As a result of that minor changes to borders happen quite regularly and some parts of kingdoms and empires may be far more autonomous to the point of being near independent (think about Aquitaine/Burgundy within France). There's also probably several small 2 or 3 providence kingdoms that just aren't rendered due to size.

In the case of the Jaeger States and Marinare Coasts they're really just a series of independent city states that are lumped together on the map for convience sake (that's why I added cities on those ones to represent the main city states). Bon, the Jara Confederation, Tecumseh Federation, and the Inner League are, similarly, more alliances of multiple groups that a united kingdom (but really that's just Feudalism in general in a way)

Not featured on this map is the lost kingdom of Makedan (which is somewhat a stand in for Sheba) but it had been located in territory that's now split between Muskuv and Sivartian.

i struggle to express how tiresome i find the various posts on here which exhort one to vote in the american presidential election. i live in a firmly blue state. if i pokémon go to the polls & write in "deez nuts" my state delegates will select joseph robinette biden. if i stay at home reblogging russian chaos agent posts from 2016 my state delegates will select joseph robinette biden. if i dutifully show up and bubble in my ballot for a genocidaire my state delegates will select joseph robinette biden. i get being an enthusiastic booster for showing up to vote in e.g. school district elections, which are often held out-of-season and are much less publicized; these local elections can have profound community effects & people can use the reminder. but there are increasingly few swing states & the electoral college continues to exist. i don't understand what anyone who shares these posts hopes to accomplish but to focus all eyes frantically on a contest in which most of us have vanishingly little agency

Hi hi anon!

There are no female omegas or alphas at Hillview, because of the dangers this poses re: pregnancy.

Instead, Hillview has an all-woman sister facility nearby, which is where Eva, Gulvi, Julvia, Fenwrel and the others all hang out in their various pairings, lol. I like to imagine that Eva runs the facility.

Hillview has male patients, male omega companions, and staff, because pregnancy is a huge risk. Being able to assure spouses and families, for example, that there's literally zero risk of their partners or children getting pregnant, or impregnating someone else, is a hugely necessary reassurance.

So yeah, Hillview has a sister site, probably a bit further south, near Denmark (because Western Australia has a Denmark x.x)

I feel like you learn at some point in law school that you have gone wrong somewhere in your life, because you have made a study guide that is nearly 50 pages long for one class, because if you don't have that you will not be able to remember everything you need to analyze and cite to during your three hour final, which feels like a PATENTLY INSANE thing to say.

Alright this is Lis coming to you live with a map update for this world and some bonus map content. First of all I wanted to touch up the map a bit by coloring it, as the original had been blank. I thought a combination of greens with a bit of yellow/red looked nicest. Secondly I wound up expanding the map a bit as I wanted more space between the eastern most continents and where Beauty & Beast were. I also wanted to fit another place in, so two birds with one stone by making it bigger. First here's a look without political markings.

As you can see there is a new land mass. As well as a few more islands thrown in. To be honest I'm not sure if I prefer it to the ORIGINAL but I think it gives me a bit more room to work with. To accompany it here is the political map.

As you can see I left a significant chunk of the new continent unlabeled. That is so that I can possibly fit in a few other places later without needing to mess around with the general shape of the map anymore.

Finally, here is something I thought could be interesting. A whited out version of the map with color markers to indicate where members of the guild are from. This contains all the characters who have been added as muses, all the Meisters, and a few characters who've been mentioned in universe. I do not know if this is going to be at all readable, even when opening the image in another tab but I hope it works.

I'm reading a book named "A Guide to The Correction of Young Gentlemen Or, The Successful Administration Of Physical Discipline To Males, By Females" - essentially, a fantasy femdom BDSM book, written in 1924 by Alice Kerr-Sutherland but first published in 1991.

It has some genuinely fascinating stuff to say about gender, and I feel like it's worth looking at/thinking about in the context of Historical Gender Stuff. This 100 year old book has the following to say:

"The truth is that some young gentlemen would rather they had been born young ladies: they cannot admit this openly, because in the male world to confess as much would lead to instant ostracism if not worse; but they cannot conceal it either, and by preferring the company of girls, and soft, feminine clothing, and by flinching during the rough pursuits to which all boys, willing or no, are occasionally heirs, they attract opprobrium."

"Such boys weep too readily for their fellows' tastes - weeping is a great crime among boys unless it is generally admitted that circumstances left little choice - and are hounded for that reason."

"Just as there are girls who had rather been boys - we all know examples of the type - there are boys who, in a kinder world, would have been born into the gender more suited to their dispositions."

"Many young people of this sort are riven with a guilt they do not deserve but have been forced, by the conventions of society, to adopt; they are confused, ashamed and thoroughly unhappy."
