Hello, everyone! My friend and I came up with an idea for a Sherlock AU! (I think it's an AU? Or more of an adaptation, as they look VERY different.) John is a YouTuber! This is HEAVILY inspired by Sherlock & Co, and the idea came about because she said some fanart made Sherlock and John look like YouTubers. I hope this idea hasn't been done before! I'm going to write it on A03, and as soon as I do, I will tag whoever would like to read it! Doc_And_Detect or just YouTuber Sherlock Holmes is what I'll call this! Also, I made some designs, but I can't draw so I used Gacha Life 2.
Tumblr media
If you'd like some funfacts about them, here they are!
Sherlock: Keeps a notebook full of detective work in it. Said notebook is being held together by duct-tape, zipties, and God himself. Gay. Autistic. Is a consulting detective, as per usual, and is best friends with Lestrade. He hasn't seen his brother in ages. Is actually nice once you get to know him.
John: He got a injured from a grenade blast. Has scars all up his arms, back, and legs, which is why he always wears long sleeves. Pansexual (probably). Still on the fence, but transgender? (FtM). Most likely has ADHD. Definitely has PTSD. He wears a knee brace.

I really feel like one of the best details in “A Scandal in Bohemia” that I never see people fixate on enough is that the story starts with Watson stopping in to see Holmes at Baker Street on a complete whim, because he happens to see that he’s home (and Watson is now married and living elsewhere). Like he doesn’t send word first, he’s not invited, he just shows up and surprises Holmes. Which is not that weird but then Holmes is like “oh good, I’ve got a case anyway, you might as well hang out!” which just makes it funnier when the King shows up and is like “I’d really rather speak to you alone, actually” and Watson tries to leave and Holmes is just like “anything you can say to me, you can say to my best friend John Watson, and if you ask him to leave, I would consider it a grave insult, you would be my enemy and I will not help you ever!!” And the king is like “…ok” and just moves on.
like, that is crazy behavior. Holmes is talking about how there’s probably lots of money in this case, and then almost turns away the client for…not knowing who the fuck Watson is?? He’s not even supposed to be there?? He just came to say hi?? “It is both or none”… girl, GET UP.

kind of a random thought, but i really appreciate that it takes holmes a while to figure things out. if he's untangling a problem he's sitting on it for a while, there's no instantaneous bolt of lightning- and it's usually one small, but obvious detail he's missing, not some grand drawn out plot. he just needs to give himself a moment, which is something (not to project, but also yes to project) i'm having to learn being something currently unmedicated for adhd.
sometimes you just need to let it sit, or come back to it later, or whatever needs to happen. it's not going to happen in an instant, and that's okay, because it will eventually~

Adventures of Sherlock Holmes except it's a modern college au. John Watson is a medical student. Sherlock is a forensics major, but occasionally sneaks up to the cryonics facility to beat corpses. They used to share a dorm room but the college kicked them out because Sherlock kept conducting explosive experiments in the room. They now share a flat, begrudgingly. Watson keeps having to tiptoe around the flat because Sherlock has a million-dollar worth Stradivarius lying around under hordes of paper on the floor. John tries to stray Sherlock away from his caffeine addiction, and fails. Sherlock once tempted John to steal the local resident skull from the lab in order to help him get over breaking up with Mary Morstan. The professor who owned the skull is still trying to find it. Sherlock usually bribes Lestrade (police-in-training) so he can sneak into crime scenes to conduct research in forensics. Sometimes he solves the crimes. The FBI finds out about the bribery and tells him, "hey. 20-something young man over there. you don't need to bribe Lestrade anymore, we can come over to you if we find some cases difficult to solve. adiós". Sherlock drags John to every single case he's worked on, despite John complaining because 'I HAVE A THESIS DUE AT 2 AM'.

Ok for some reason my brain is hyper focusing on Johnlock again like I won't regret it 2-3 business days from now when I come out of it with 5 new open AO3 tabs (out of my already 156 open AO3 tabs not counting other unfinished/unread fic/fic I've not caught up on, full disclosure) for fic that I probably won't finish reading and/or while being unable to find the. Very Specific. fic I want to read and just having like an open half-filtered tab... But Anyway.
Here's a Very Rare Johnlock Post from me lol
Imagine after all the seasons are over and Johnlock are old and have finally talked about their feelings and properly, actually, gotten officially together
(and subsequently gotten married in like 2 months cause Sherlock filled out the paperwork while John was not actually at home and then actually having a discussion about it when John finds out it happened cause Sherlock casually mentions it and actually agrees after Sherlock mentions (read: steamrolls over him, anxiously) them practically already being married by common law and just officialising it for the tax benefits... they only have a proper wedding, maybe on their/an anniversary when Mrs Hudson finds out probably 6 months later or sth and complains,, but I've gone on a tangent again)
Anyway Rosie is a teenager, with after-school activities and a phone.
I'm just imagining Sherlock dragging John out on a murder case (read: date) and deciding to feed him midway through (like always, tbh,, sth sth that post about feeding the depressed man that tends to forget to eat but I digress)
So Rosie gets a text and a voicemail from the two of them (cause Sherlock prefers to text and tell me John is not the sort to leave voicemails, like he would have put it on the voicemail machine if they had one he's so old man sometimes)
And it goes something like:
[Text from Papa]
Ragù Bolognese, Angelo's, 7pm. Hugs. -SH
[Voicemail from Dad]
"Hi honey, it's Dad.
Sorry we won't be able to make it to dinner with you, your father's got a case and you know how he gets...
Anyway, Mrs Hudson is going out tonight remember, so your Papa is booking the usual table at Angelo's for you... You still like the Spaghetti Bolognese right?
Don't worry about us, we'll eat before we get home. And the reservation is at 7, so don't be late. This will probably take a while so don't wait up either and go straight to bed young lady, you hear me?
Anyway I've got to go, loveyoubye."
Anyway I think it would be very cute, like they love and care about her, even if they're old men who laugh at crime scenes and whose ideal date is trying to catch a murderer together, and they show it by taking a moment to make sure she's fed with her favorite food even when they're busy solving crime, so yeah.

Alrighty i wanna talk a little abt Sherlock & Co. I originally started listening to it cuz I honestly just wanted another form of media for Sherlock that I hadn't consumed yet, but i 100% stayed for the characters and plot.
With a little background, I am diagnosed with anxiety and get panic attacks. I don't wanna self diagnose but i believe i show signs of untreated adhd (im working on a way to get diagnosed and medicated 🤞) and as a result of these two things, my self esteem and grades at school declined so quickly and suddenly and it affected me so much. I graduated HS three weeks ago, and Im applying to medical school rn, but because of how i performed in my senior year, i have 0 confidence that I could even handle my pre-med preparatory year. I often consider myself stupid and below average because if I can't get good grades, then what am i supposed to do with my life? Anyway, due to my suspected adhd, I have a lot of sensory issues, especially sounds and touches, and nobody seems to understand. I get irritated from overstimulation and sometimes just wanna start crying in the middle of a busy street. It happened a lot during school. We were 36 students crammed into one classroom, so it was never quiet, and it made it even harder for me to concentrate. My school is known to be the worst in the country, and they're not accommodating to any student. We're also KG through 12, so there's always the irritating sound of kids yelling and shouting. I just couldn't handle the constant noise, and i couldn't wait to get home so i could get in bed, close the blinds, and watch a comfort show with my doggo sleeping next to me.
That's where the representation in Sherlock & Co comes in. They've written an adult character with sensory issues, who is open about them and his friends accommodate him. He uses ear defenders and sunglasses and makes an effort to understand his neurotypical friends. That just made me so much more comfortable about the fact that I constantly have noise cancelling earbuds shoved in my ears when I'm in public. I've even started wearing headphones instead (cuz it's better for ur ears ig??). Another thing is, they mention that sherlock, despite being super smart, didn't get good grades in college. And that's like!!! Yeah!! Standardised tests are awful and serve no purpose except shatter students' confidence when they don't get the desired grade. It's not a "one shoe fits all," and it shouldn't be. Everyone has strong points that couldn't be measured using a multiple choice exam. I can't even begin to count the number of panic attacks and breakdowns i get from anything school-related. I've seen close friends break down in uncontrollable tears from bad test scores. And these same friends are the most intelligent, well-spoken people I've met. Just because they couldn't memorize 200 pages of physics formulas and definitions doesn't mean they're worth any less. I don't know. That line from S&C just stuck with me.
Anyway, yeah. This podcast just makes me feel so soft and comfortable and fills me with relief and confidence. I don't know how to explain it.

A tiny little headcanon about ACD Holmes that relates to Holmes being ADHD (mostly because I don't know if this happens to autistic people too). We all know by now how Holmes refuses to eat during a case saying how food disrupts his mental capacity.
Now as a person besieged by the beast known as ADHD, I have had an experience. I don't know how many of you can relate, but sometimes I feel hungry and I know where the food is, but it simply does not occur to me to eat at all. It's just too much sometimes. Too much effort to get up and get the food, to heat/make it. To even have to put it in a plate and eat it. To even wash hands. Happens with water too, if a little less frequently. If anyone asks, I just excuse myself with I wasn't hungry/ I forgot.
Now I imagine Holmes going through this on a semi regular basis pre-Watson. And explaining all this seems like a bit too much effort. And he is Sherlock Holmes ™ and so cannot legally forget things. So he comes up with this bullshit explanation that sounds scientific on the surface. Everyone buys the excuse.
Except for Watson, that is. Because that man is a doctor and lives with Holmes 24/7. At first he reminds Holmes to eat. Then he leaves dry food in easily accessible places. And wonder of wonders, it works. He still does not eat as much as he should, but Holmes at least stops starving himself. Because he might not be cured, but he has actually found someone who cares about him and it might not be everything, but it is enough.

There is a very specific version of Sherlock Holmes in my head, that I don't think exists in any modern adaptation, just lives rent-free in my head, but I keep thinking about him more and more, so maybe it's time I shared. (This is going to be a messy ramble/stream of consciousness btw. I am not sure if that makes any sense, I just need to push it out of my head. (okay, I warned you.))
I need a modern Holmes who is canonically autistic and ADHD, but high masking and late diagnosed. Perhaps even not diagnosed by the time he meets Watson. Holmes who learned to mask well enough/didn't have symptoms that were considered "typical" in the late 90s/early 2000s when (assuming he'd be in his late 20s/early 30s nowadays) he was a kid, so no one (including him) ever even considered the possibility of him being neurodivergent until John H. Watson M.D. met him.
I need Watson observing Holmes and going from "he's kinda weird isn't he" to "oh so that's that. Yea that tracks". Watson who discovers that Holmes is drugging himself up sometimes, and eventually deicdes to confront him about it, to learn that Sherlock is taking speed to "be able to think better" and things click. Holmes I think would be sceptical at first, but eventually he'd do a research and it'd change his life. Perhaps Watson could even help him find a specialist and get officially diagnosed. Seriously, think about it.
