"Keith could come in on the weekends?"
OKAY đŸ™‡đŸŸâ€â™€ïž
so, Ive been seeing these cute jjk, textless comics about the fushiguro family and it made me want to do the same with adashi cause it's been a while since I drew them + I'm back on the Voltron hell train (and I'm taking you with me)
One of my favorite shadam hc is that prior to the whole kerberos stuff, Adam and Shiro had their own place to come home to and would only go to the garrison for work - and that at some point, they got Keith his own room at their apartment so that he could sleep there on weekends and holidays, and eventually they started thinking about adopting him but space dad got lost in space before it coule actually happen -
I got a whole comic idea for that last bit so maybe later after the "Room for two" one is finished, who knows đŸ€·đŸŸâ€â™€ïž
Enjoy ✹

Klance and Adashi parallels that keep me up:
Keith and Adam: both went and did something sewer slideal (to be fair though Adam was ordered and Keith got saved by Lotor)
Lance and Shiro: both died but ended up coming back to life (Lance via Alluras powers and Shiro via having his conscience being put inside a clone), they're also both like mega flirts and disasters
Shiro and Keith: wanting to be in space no matter what and helping people constantly
Lance and Adam: love piloting but also wanting to be on Earth (I like to think Lance helps out on the farm but he's also the new lead MFE pilot for the Garrison and is teaching a new generation)
Also both ships have their own holt sibling that more than likely annoyed them about their crushes (Matt definitely bugged Shiro more than Adam and Pidge definitely bugged Lance more)
If yall have any other parallels throw them down

The Greatest Unknowns by keithsgaycousin (11/11 | 70,799 | General)
Keith used to stay awake into the depths of the night, thinking about all of the uncertainties space held. Its vastness was so great no one knew what it contained. He used to dream of someday leaving Earth and exploring it first-hand, wishing to find the greatest unknown. Now, he wished he could run away from it—wishing to happily wade in the pools of the known. The certain. He no longer sought it out because the world unexpectedly gave him his own little star. A supernova so bright, it threw every certainty out of the spaceship and sent him crash-landing down to Earth. or During one hectic night, single-dad Keith Kogane phones a family friend to help with his 6-month-old son.
//anxiety
(adam/shiro, hunk/shay)
I'm Still Here by infinitesongbird (12/12 | 117,037 | Teen and Up)
The Wastes are all Keith has ever known. For nineteen years, the arid desert is all he's seen of the world; his only reprieve from monotonous existence being his father's fantastical tales of heroic deeds and perilous battles among the stars. He can't help but feel drawn to those stars—their beckoning voices a constant tickle in the back of his mind. He dreams of following their call to adventure, but as the years pass, dreams dwindle and concede to obligation. What were once fantasies of purpose and fulfilment wither away entirely, and Keith has officially resigned himself to a life of empty nothingness. Until one day, fate literally comes crashing into Keith's life, and he is swept up into an epic tale of his own. Alternatively: The Treasure Planet au you didn't know you needed ;)
//minor character death
(adam/shiro)
Floating by justkindaherechilling (1/1 | 20,076 | Teen and Up)
Flying used to be Keith's entire life. Until an accident took it all away from him. He's resigned himself to a quiet life, that is until traveling pilot Lance comes barreling into his life. He makes Keith rethink everything, even his own fear of space.

brother i have QUESTIONS (ao3) 3 12 19 27 29 30 and secret bonus question that was NOT included in the text post but as an additional special query , if someone (me) were trying to write an adashi fic for you for the past like two years but they were very fucking bad at committing to a fucking plot what would you want the circumstance to be
3: What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?
DEFINITELY my voltron rewrite. its about the length of an entire novel and i've grown more as a writer during this project than . pretty much anythign else i've ever done lmao.
12: How many WIP’s do you have in your docs for next year?
uh. well. i tried to count all of my unfinished WIPs but i gave up somewhere around the 95 mark. i KNOW i'm well into triple digits however. and that number will only ever increase.
19: What’s one pairing you want to explore next year?
i wanna do more stuff with danny phantom in general. romantic platonic familial etc etc etc all the things. i ALSO really want to finish my team STRQ manifesto sometime next year because i am always so fucking sick over them
27: What do you listen to while writing?
instrumental music usually!! it WIDELY varies but generally i avoid things with lyrics because its too distracting for me. problem is, im so mentally ill about instrumental music that 80% of the time THAT'S too distracting for me too bc i'll be paying so much attention to what i'm listening to that i forget i'm supposed to be writing. i literally can't win </3
29: Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?
i was revisiting my STRQ manifesto today as i am likely to do and my god. i really really went off with this one here: _______
Summer sighed, and reached for Ruby. “I should put her down, too.” Qrow gently pulled his finger out of Ruby's mouth and reluctantly let Summer take her back. At the same time, he couldn't wait to get the baby away from him. He was all too aware of how small she was, how fragile. It would be so easy for something to happen to her, for his Semblance to hurt her. That all-too-familiar buzz of anxiety was climbing up his throat, making him have to resist the urge to tap his fingers against Harbinger at his side. He needed a drink. He needed to leave, before something bad happened. “I better debrief with Oz,” he said, half-turning toward the door. Summer's hand on his wrist stopped him in his tracks. She looked at him, silver eyes seeming to bore into him and peel his layers back, one by one. Her hand was rough against his skin, callused from years of battle. “You don't have to leave, you know,” she said softly. You know I do, Qrow wanted to say, but he gave her a crooked grin instead. “You know how Oz is. I'll try and swing by before I head out again, yeah?” Summer's brows drew together, her fingers tightening around Qrow's wrist like she didn't want to let him go. Her lips twitched, like she was trying to say any of the things she had to be thinking. “Would it really be so bad,” she said at last, “if you stayed? Just this once?”
Qrow looked at her, at the brightness of gathering tears in her eyes. She'd missed him, he realized, and it made his heart twist to think about how the months he's away on missions must be for her, for Tai. How they must wait, agonizing over every day he's gone and dreading that he'll never come back. It's strange, knowing that someone misses him when he's gone. Strange that he has somewhere to come home to, strange that there are people who will welcome him there when he arrives. Strange, and a little sad. He almost preferred knowing nobody would miss him when one of Salem's monsters finally did him in. Summer was still looking at him, expression pleading. Qrow sighed, and turned his wrist in her hand so his fingers were twining with hers. His other hand rose, to brush against the soft, plump curve of Ruby's cheek. “It's not worth the risk,” he said, so softly he could barely hear himself. Summer's eyes closed. Her fingers tightened around Qrow's. She nodded slowly. Qrow squeezed her hand back and carefully leaned in, pressing a kiss to her cheek. He gave Ruby's face one more gentle brush before turning to walk away again. This time, Summer let him go.
30: Biggest surprise while writing this year?
i have discovered that i am quite incapable of writing anything romantic and making it hit but if im doing some kind of platonic intimacy????? brother i will write the hell out of that shit. this probably should not have been surprising to me since i'm the most aromantic guy on planet earth but. well. i am also not a very smart man so jot that down
and in regards to your other question ,,,
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE PLS I WOULD BE SO HONORED ,,,,, you can do whatever your heart desires of course but i would love for it to be some kind of scenario in space in which one of them gets hurt and the other one yells so loud about it ,,

I feel like the Adashi household really likes Halloween. When they first brought Keith in, he was probably like 10 or 11 and was still uncomfortable and always felt like Adam and Shiro would send him away if he messed up, despite Shiro and Adam caring for him deeply. Their first Halloween together Shiro dresses up as Tadashi and Keith dresses up as Hiro from Big Hero 6.
They convince Adam to go as Baymax. Adam usually goes fucking all out on Halloween with makeup, body paint, and costumes that aren’t always scary but just really intricate. He pretended to put up a fuss, saying “How come Shiro gets to rock the cardigan and baseball cap, looking like a sexy intellectual, and I will waddle around as a giant marshmallow!” but really he loved seeing Keith so excited about going as one of his favorite movies and was so happy Keith kept saying “please Adam it would be so cool!”.
They go out and they are a huge hit. Shiro carries Keith on his shoulders with Adam holding all their bags walking behind them. Adam sometimes needed help maneuvering so Keith would hold his hand and lead his around. They look so much like the movie that people ask to take pictures with them. It makes Keith feel so much more like he’s welcomed and he falls asleep on their couch, midway through eating candy, and Shiro and Adam just are happy to make him feel at home.

30 + ship of your choice?
well it took me 500 years but i finally did it!! it's a voltron ship tho. sorry bestie. i just love these sad guys
30. Desperate kiss (Adashi)
           This is a familiar scenario.
An eternity away, a different time, a nearby place.
Shiro is leaving, and Adam is staying, and Shiro is going to die, and Adam won’t be by his side.
He was always meant to die in the unending void of space. This time, he isn’t chasing glory—he’s chasing peace, even though doing so will leave Adam bereft of it for the rest of his life. Though, Shiro hopes it won’t. He hopes Adam will move on. Adam deserves happiness, yet he keeps choosing Shiro.
Adam was always meant to be on Earth. He was always the grounded one, anyway. The rational thinker. And he thinks going to die in space is fucking stupid, because there must be some other way, but this time they both know: this is the only way.
They don’t approach it with the anguish and hotheadedness of two men in their early twenties who still think that there might be something beyond this. That there might be hope. This time, there is only resignation. Acceptance.
Years ago, the night before a mission like this, Shiro slept alone in a cold bed.
This time, he sits at the edge of it as Adam leans in, and he leans in, and they meet in the middle. For the first time since before Kerberos, they meet in the goddamn middle.
It starts gentle. Shiro intends to keep it that way for all of five seconds before Adam changes the angle, and noses smush into cheeks, and his glasses go askew. After that, all bets are off. Everything matters, and then, after tomorrow, for Shiro, none of it will.
He kisses Adam with ferocity. Kisses him with years’ worth of missed opportunities and seemingly lost chances. Kisses him with a lifetime they won’t be able to have. Adam gasps, and he swallows it.
Adam kisses him back just as intensely, hands fumbling to get Shiro’s bulletproof vest off, fingers tearing at the shirt underneath. He won’t be needing it, anyway.
“Please,” Adam whispers insistently, already knowing Shiro can’t do what he asks of him, “don’t go. Not again.”
“I’m right here,” Shiro replies in the breath between kisses, because it’s all he can say. It’s the truth, for now. Tomorrow, he’s leaving. The team is leaving for a mission they won’t come back from, but right now, Adam has him. And maybe, for now, that can be enough.

hey ren do you have any thoughts/feelings about adashi? i personally really like the idea of it but would love to hear your thoughts or maybe even headcanons if you’ve never shared them here before! if you have you can totally ignore this haha
HI!!! i LOVE adashi. adashi is currently alive and well in my canon and they are in love and happy. in fact, in honor of shiro’s birthday, here are some adashi headcanons just for u <3
they met when they were abt to graduate for the garrison and were both applying to be instructors. they were in the same class and once finals rolled around they were like, well, we both have things in common so we might as well study together
adam, upon reaching shiro’s dorm and seeing him in the casual tight tshirt he always wears when he’s not in the garrison uniform: gholy fuck. fuck. fuck.
shiro (innocent): ?
adam is in fact so entranced by shiro’s physique that half of their study session is spent on him asking shiro how the hell he managed to get This Wayâ„ąïž
shiro: i honestly don’t know what you mean? all i do is get up at 5am, go for a run, lift weights for an hour, drink a protein shake, carry 20 pounds of books around with me all day, drink lots of water, try to get at least 100k steps each week, do 1k situps--
adam: hey shiro have you ever heard of this really neat thing called resting?
shiro, who finds people that don’t idolize him for his daily routines inherently attractive: can’t say i have, let’s go over to my bed and you can show me!
adam: what
shiro: what
adam:
adam: yeah i’m down
so that night adam...shows shiro how to rest ;)
(tbh they don’t do anything more intense than kissing, but you wouldn’t know that from the way shiro is blushing and flustered about it the next day)
it’s kind of awkward after that, and shiro’s kind of resolved to just...let it go, thinking that it was too much and they’ve wrecked their budding relationship beyond repair
that is until adam shows up where shiro’s sitting in the cafeteria, plops his lunch tray down, and resolutely begins eating with him. shiro is so relieved and touched that he gets up and hugs adam immediately, a gesture which adam gladly returns :’)
after that they just kind of...happen! they’re always seen together, making each other laugh, studying together, the whole shebang. they become something of a famous couple at the garrison, which embarrasses shiro somewhat but which adam takes pride in
adam: cmon, takashi, you have to kiss me on the cheek. it’s content for our fans
shiro: (holding back laughter) no! i’m not exploiting our relationship for the masses!
adam: well one of us has to *dips shiro for a searing kiss*
i think they’d try to keep things professional once they become instructors at the garrison, but tbh their students constantly catch them snickering together or staring lovingly into each other’s eyes and there’s little question as to the nature of their relationship
once they bring keith in, though....well. there’s absolutely no question at all
keith, marching into the classroom where shiro is currently teaching and dropping his lunch in front of him on the desk: adam put ketchup on my mac and cheese. i hate ketchup on my mac and cheese. tell him when he gets home that he is on strike number three
shiro, who tries his best to keep his personal and work life separate (and fails miserably): just show them the wedding ring why don’t you
(keith does show everyone the wedding ring. he steals it from shiro while he’s asleep and triumphantly displays it to anyone he comes across. he’s grounded for a week after.)
it’s common knowledge that adam can cook whereas shiro fails miserably every time he tries, but some of adam’s favorite nights are when shiro prepares their meal, because he can just tell how lovingly crafted it was, how much effort he put in, and he will eat it every single time even if it makes him ill--which, to shiro’s credit, it usually doesn’t
they’re the kind of couple that share a bed & one of them is always reading by the lamplight while the other sleeps. usually adam is the one reading, because if shiro stays up too late he gets chided, but they will switch from time to time. idk if this is relevant but i simply think it’s the truth
they simply....are in love. and they’re great psuedo-parents to keith, great teachers, great people. and they are so happy together, because even when things get tough, they have a solid enough foundation that they’ll probably never break. mayhaps they should start a relationship advice column in the garrison newspaper fsdkhgkjfsgsd

More Adashi AU
- Adam talks to Shiro while Shiro pilots the Atlas, Adam says some words that feel like a goodbye and Shiro calls out to him. He thinks Adam is dead (Adam was able to evacuate his plane before it crashed with the Galra)
- Upon hearing that the Galra are coming, Shiro and Adam argue over Adam being involved
- Once the quartet of Matt, Adam, Shiro, and Keith are reunited Matt and Keith hound Shiro like annoying brothers for leaving Adam and Keith behind
- Adam saying the words "we're going to get you to the medbay and once you're all healed up we're going to have a sparring match where I throw you around like a rag doll" / "don't ever worry me like that again. I don't know if I can ever take a loss like that again"
-Adam infiltrates Galra forces and travels with them in space. Shiro can't believe what he sees when he thinks Adam is willingly working with Galra
-with Kerberos being considered a bust bc of "pilot error" The Garrison wants to send others into space to retrieve the Kerberos crew. Voltron crew finds Adam's ship just floating in space with no life force seeming to be inside. They investigate to find Adam on the floor and alone. Turns out there's barely enough oxygen for even a new born let alone a grown adult (bonus if Adam's ship was hit with quintessence); Shiro refuses to leaves Adam's side while he's in the healing pod
-Adam somehow being used to help power the Galras main ship that attacked earth like some Alteans were
-They never confessed their feelings so when Shiro is determined to go on Kerberos Adam just sits with his feelings and waits; both thinking they've missed their chance with the other (cue Matt, Keith and Pidge trying to get them together when they reunite)
-Soulmate/soul marks AU where Shiro and Adam do not meet until Shiro comes back from space
- (shout to Chibi-pix for this one) Adam is like a brother figure to Pidge which results in Keith and Pidge being siblings causing Iverson to lose his mind bc Keith and Pidge are Matt and Shiro 2.0s (Lord help him when an Adam 2.0 enters the picture); Adam and Shiro are blissfully aware of their siblings antics but act like they aren't
-Kuron goes to Earth and kidnaps Adam
-Shiro is forced to choose between Keith and Adam
- They start off as a one-sided rivalry until an incident forces them together and they start to get to know each other
-more patient Adam and reckless Shiro
-Adam joins the Blade of Marmora where he runs into Keith (Adam still thinks Shiro is dead) Adam is with him in the two years in the Abyss and reunites with Shiro when Keith returns to the Paladins
-Eros!Adam and Psyche!Shiro
-Teen Titans AU where Shiro is Cyborg and Adam is Bumblebee (points for Kuron being Brother Blood)
-Camp Half-Blood demigod Shiro and Camp Jupiter Half-Blood Adam
-Adam and Matt get buried alive and Shiro is a reck trying to find them (Adam) so they don't die
-Baker/Cook Adam and Shiro who can't boil water without setting it on fire
-Adam and Shiro swap roles (neither are dead though)
-Shiro and Adam meeting once when they were kids but not meeting again until they are older. Both remember but Adam acts like he doesn't recall it at all
-Both are cadets and one has a significant other while the other is pining hard (s/a with the significant other doesn't last long, significant other also happens to be mutuals with Adam and Shiro)
-Shiro trains and gets a bad bruise on his neck that everyone thinks is a hickey until Adam returns from a trip (cue Keith defending Shiro but the other Paladins and co think maybe Shiro cheated)
-Shiro confesses to Adam one night but acts like he doesn't remember it then he and Adam spiral in their feelings

[excerpt below the cut]
It was only Keith’s third day on the job, and he could already tell this summer was going to be terrible.
For the most part, working at the front desk of the Red Lion Inn was simple—just checking guests in and out, answering phone calls, and giving people directions to places in the area. And at least it was a small hotel, so there weren’t too many guests to handle at once. Plus, he knew he should be grateful that Shiro had given him the job in the first place. But talking to people wasn’t exactly his strong suit, and standing on his feet for hours was draining.
Things were pretty dead around this time in the afternoon, though, so Keith could lean his elbow on the desk and rest his chin on his hand without anyone noticing. He had doodled on his notepad on his first day, but Shiro had frowned upon that—you have to look professional, Keith—so there wasn’t much for him to do right now except stare across the empty lobby.
Keith inhaled and let it out in a drawn-out sigh. The bright, tiled floor was starting to hurt his eyes, and he squeezed them shut and opened them. There was no sound except for the low drone of the air conditioning and the trickling of the mini waterfall sliding down the wall behind him.
Something hit him lightly on the shoulder. “Look alive, kiddo.”
He looked up, irritated, to see that Shiro had stepped out of the back office and was holding a clipboard—probably the offending object that had hit Keith.
“Hey, don’t give me that look,” Shiro admonished. “You’re the one sleeping on the job.”
“I’m not sleeping.”
“Well, at least buck up a little. You’ve only been here
” Shiro glanced at his phone. “Forty-five minutes. You’re gonna have to survive the rest of the evening.”
“Don’t remind me,” Keith said, but he stood up straight anyway.
Shiro put his clipboard down on the other end of the long, marble-top desk. He had a familiar furrow in his brow, which usually signaled that he was about to give Keith a lecture. But just then, Shiro’s eye caught something over Keith’s shoulder.
“Couple of guests coming this way. Would you mind checking them in? I have some paperwork I need to finish.”
“Yeah, whatever,” Keith said. When Shiro gave him a stern look, he added, “I mean, yes. No problem.”
Two figures walked in through the front entrance, silhouetted against the bright daylight as the glass door slid open to let them in. One of them said something Keith couldn’t make out, and the other let out a laugh that echoed through the lobby. Keith tried to compose himself, turning his attention to the computer next to him and bringing up the list of reservations.
As the two people stepped up to the counter, Keith cleared his throat. “Hi, welcome to the Red Lion Inn,” he said, trying to sound professional but also not like a robot—a balance he was still struggling to find. “How can I help y—”
He stopped when he looked up and saw the two people standing in front of him. They both looked to be about twenty—so, around the same age as Keith. The one on the left was a bit taller and bigger, had dark skin and brown eyes, and was shooting Keith a friendly smile. An orange headband peeked out from under his black bangs. The one on the right had a lankier frame and sported a crooked grin. He took off his sunglasses and tucked them into the pocket of the short-sleeved, button-down shirt—which was a pastel blue that complemented the brown shade of his skin.
Their gazes met across the counter, and Keith didn’t realize he was staring until the stranger cleared his throat.
“Hi, there. We’d like to check in, please.”

Hello gays and gays only. You may have known me as dicks-out-for-adam :) felt a little nostalgic and wanted to post a little something for the adashi tag. Happy pride and happy summer, here’s two hockey players getting midnight snacks on a road trip.
------------------------------
“Adam
.”
Adam stirred in his sleep, nuzzling further into his pillow. His sore muscles protested his awakening and he couldn’t agree with them more. He wanted to continue sleeping
.
“Adam.”
“No
.”
Let him sleep. He loved sleeping.
“Adam!”
A poke to his shoulder had him scrambling for his dreams to come back, reaching for them and wanting to cover himself in them like a blanket. But they were already too far away and Adam was already too awake.
He sighed, saddened by his loss. “What?”
“Are you up?”
“No.”
“Do you want Mcdonald’s?”
His stomach immediately reacted at the question, growling, and Adam finally opened his eyes to peer over at Takashi kneeling beside his bed.
“Are you serious?” Adam said, voice cracking from sleep and hissing as he stretched his aching limbs.
“Yeah, I’m serious. Do you want some or not?”
Ignoring his question for the moment, Adam reached for his phone. He squinted at the brightness as he read the time. “Takashi. It’s 12 A.M.”
“I know.”
“Did you even sleep?”
Takashi chose not to answer, instead he rose to his feet, his tall frame now towering over Adam’s horizontal form. Adam noticed even in the dark that he was dressed to go out.
“Can you answer my question, please?” Takashi said, his entire being now starting to radiate impatience.
Adam sighed again and rubbed his eyes, giving his hunger levels a once over. He didn’t really have much time to eat except for a couple bananas and a protein shake after the game. The others went to have dinner together but Adam was beat and set out to his hotel room, where he made a quick change into some shorts and literally sunk into the mattress. His stomach was now beating him up for not having a proper meal. He lost so many calories during the game that his body was in a starving state.
“Well?” Takashi crossed his arms and glared down at him. He was probably hungry too.
“I am hungry
.” Adam sat up in the bed, keeping the blankets over his shoulders for warmth. “But I don’t want Mcdonald’s.”
In fact, the idea of it made his stomach recoil a bit. He didn’t mind the fast food usually, but after waking up from a deep sleep? Not ideal.
Takashi was silent for a moment, seemingly thinking. He then pulled out his phone and began typing on it.
“Do you feel like walking?” Takashi asked.
Adam shrugged. A midnight walk didn’t sound awful. He actually enjoyed them if he was in the company of a friend or two.
“There’s a 24/7 convenience store five minutes from here.” Takashi looked up from his phone to stare at him, inquiring. “Do you want me to pick something up for you?”
Adam thought about it. On one side, he wanted to stay in bed. The hotel room was especially cozy, and the city lights outside his window tried to lure him back to sleep. And looking at the streets below, he noticed fresh snowfall. He could stay inside, safe from the cold, and wouldn’t have to get dressed either.
But on the other hand, it was only a five minute walk, and walking in the snow sounded just as inviting as laying in the warmth of his bed. And Takashi would be there with him. That idea alone had Adam craving something similar to companionship, but not quite. He couldn’t quite explain it. Something about walking around in the middle of the night, seeking food with his best friend in a city constantly bustling with college students who were also out on a walk, whether for food as well or from a club
it was like nostalgia, in a way. But Adam could not recall ever doing such a thing in the past. Maybe with family or old friends, but never so late.
“Okay.” Adam made up his mind, stretching one more time before pulling the covers away.
Takashi tilted his head, looking for a clearer answer to his question than the one he was provided with. “Okay, what?”
“Okay, let’s go to the convenience store.”
“You want to come with me?”
“Yeah.”
“Alrighty. Hurry up then. I’m starving.”
In less than five minutes, they were exiting the hotel elevator and made their way outside through the grand lobby. It was quiet, and their footsteps echoed against the smooth tile. The receptionist paid them no mind.
As soon as they stepped outside, it was even quieter. The snow had built a heavy blanket over the sidewalks and parked cars, muffling the sounds of the city. Passing vehicles drove carefully over the salted roads and squelched over gray sludge. Only a few groups of people mingled about, most of whom were inside the many cafes and diners in the area, trying to stay someplace warm for a bit.
And walking beside Adam was Takashi, who made it his duty to talk Adam’s ear off. In the five minutes it took for them to reach the corner store, Takashi was on his tenth topic of conversation, water-vapor blowing from his mouth in short puffs of smoke from the cold. And when the doors slid open for them, his voice lowered into a low mumble to match the volume of the store.
It continued like this as they wandered down all six aisles of the small shop. Their conversation quickly shifted to food as they eyed various snacks and groceries. Shopping while hungry was dangerous, and Adam tried to suppress his urge to buy everything he craved. The team was leaving for a different city tomorrow morning, so the less baggage the better. He just needed something he could eat and dispose of quickly.
He had to constantly remind Takashi of this as well.
“Ha, look.”
Adam turned away from the many versions of Cheez Its to peer over at what Takashi was pointing at. He grimaced. “Sour Patch Kids cereal?”
“Sounds gross right?” Takashi laughed, then paused to stare at the abomination for a moment. “I want it.”
“You’re disgusting.”
It took Adam a few tries to convince the impulsive man that he shouldn’t buy it. Takashi only agreed with him after Adam pointed out that if he bought cereal, he’d have to buy milk, and what was he going to do with the milk tomorrow? Leave it at the hotel? Dump it and waste money? Bring it with him on the bus and risk spoiling it?
“I’ll just eat as much cereal as I can with it and then drink the rest if I have to.”
That resulted in Adam snatching the box from a laughing Takashi and placing it back on the shelf.
After more wandering, they eventually found food suitable for their cravings: Adam decided on a premade buffalo chicken wrap, hot chocolate, and a bag of hot fries, while Takashi settled on a lunchable, chocolate milk, and four Slim Jims. They paid and traveled back to the hotel, eating their snacks on the way.
Adam watched with absolute horror as Takashi opened up each Slim Jim, held them in one hand, and bit into all four in one bite.
“Takashi.”
The barbarian glanced down at him, asking what was up with a mouth full of Slim Jims.
Adam gave him a disappointed look. “Why?”
His only response was a goofy smile.
Upon arriving at their shared hotel room, Takashi’s Slim Jims were gone, Adam’s hot chocolate was warm enough to finally drink from, and his bag of hot fries was half empty, courtesy of both Takashi and himself.
“What lunchable did you get?” Adam asked as Takashi unlocked their door. Pushing it open, Takashi marched inside, singing his answer to Adam’s question with a light voice.
“Pizzaaa~”
“Of course~” Adam sang back.
They convened in Adam’s room with the rest of their food. Well, more like Adam had walked to his room and Takashi simply followed. Adam of course didn’t mind.
They easily melted into their usual comfortable and laid back routine, chatting on the bed as they chowed down. Takashi was very particular in how he set up his mini pizzas; the order absolutely had to be sauce, then cheese, then pepperoni. Adam pointed out that if he placed the pepperonis down before the cheese, he could use them to spread the sauce around evenly. Takashi looked at him as if he was the one who had bit into four Slim Jims all at once.
“Heretic,” Takashi accused him, and when Adam kicked his leg, he threatened to crush him if he did it again. Adam didn’t hesitate—he kicked Takashi again.
Takashi stared at him with a twinkling, impish look in his eyes. “You have until I finish my lunchable to apologize.”
Apparently by ‘crush’ Takashi meant plopping his entire body on top of Adam’s.
Once they finished their food and after Takashi felt Adam was adequately crushed, they settled into a comfortable silence, laying side by side. It wasn’t until Adam whipped out his phone to scroll through social media that Takashi repositioned himself on his side, head on Adam’s shoulder as he watched him scroll mindlessly.
Adam didn’t mind. He trusted Takashi, and if anything weird popped up, he knew Takashi’s socials were probably even weirder. That didn’t stop his commentary though.
“Kinky.”
“Shut up.”
Takashi chuckled, the breathy kind. The type of laugh that was only a puff of air and a soft hum. It brushed against Adam’s skin. His heart felt like it was blooming.
“Do you want to finish that one walkthrough?” Adam whispered, and he mayhaps turned his face a little so his nose could bump against Takashi’s.
Takashi hummed his affirmation, eyelids drooping. His breath once more tickled Adam’s skin.
Knowing they were going to fall asleep, they both decided to discard their jeans. Adam changed into the same shorts he had slept in before while Takashi remained in his boxers, too tired to travel the distance to his room. Adam didn’t want him to anyway. He knew Takashi would probably fall right asleep in his own bed if he left to change, and Adam wasn’t quite ready to give up his companionship just yet. He wanted to stay close, nuzzling his shoulder back underneath Takashi’s head to reclaim their position from before. Takashi happily obliged and let out a sigh so blissful one would think he had found the gates of heaven. Adam tried his best to ignore the way his skin prickled, how his heart felt opened and exposed like a blossoming flower. He swallowed it all down and played the video game walkthrough they started watching together last week.
Ten minutes in and Takashi was sound asleep, warm and comfortable against Adam’s side. Adam wanted to soak himself in that warmth, bury himself in it. Every point of contact between them was set aflame: the head on Adam’s shoulder, the arm resting flush against his, and the knee laying on top of his thigh. It was a loving and furious kind of heat, one that battled against the snowfall outside.
The best sleep awaited Adam, one he had no issue in partaking in. He only wished he could stay awake a little longer to appreciate all that was around him, like the soft mattress, the heavy duvet splayed over his form, the soft light protruding from the window and the now quiet city beneath it. And Takashi, dreaming beside him.
Soon, Adam will be dreaming as well, but before he could submit to the warm embrace of a good night’s rest, he turned his head until it bumped against Takashi’s.
Adam exhaled a final sigh, and drifted off to the lullaby of Takashi’s soft breathing.

If you could write an Adashi reunion in the show that still involved his ship crashing but have Adam being alive make sense, how would you do it?
I’d have Adam’s plane crash perhaps in the desert where he’s rescued by some rebels. And for whatever reasons he can’t get back into contact with the Garrison to let them know he’s okay. I feel like Garrison would still claim he’s dead, would erect the memorial or what have you, so when Shiro and them first arrive at the Garrison he thinks Adam’s dead. But then Keith and Hunk go on that side mission to try find Hunk’s family and when they run into the rebel fighter they also find Adam with him and of course Keith and Adam have this big reunion while Hunk is slightly confused but happy Keith at least has been reunited with someone.
Keith explains to Adam that the Garrison thought he died, that Shiro thinks he’s dead and of course Adam can’t stand that, it breaks his heart. But now he’s also so fucking scared to see Shiro again because it’s been years and the things Adam said, how he wouldn’t be there when Shiro came back, came true and he hates himself a little because of that.
Keith manages to convince Adam to come back with him and Hunk to the Garrison so Shiro at least knows he’s alive. They arrive just as dawn is breaking and Adam, knowing Shiro, finds him in a training room alone.
He sort of just watches for a second because Shiro seems so different - the scar, the hair, the missing arm - and yet he hasn’t changed a bit, still a little weak on the left arch of his leg.
“You gotta watch that,” Adam chastises softly, just like he always did whenever they sparred together.
Shiro freezes then turns slowly, so incrementally slowly, until he’s facing Adam who’s leaned up in the doorway, casual as can be when it’s been literal years since you last saw your ex-fiancĂ© after being told he died on a mission when he really he was abducted by aliens and became one of the galaxy’s defenders.
Their lives are seriously fucked up, now that Adam thinks about it.
“Please tell me I’m not dreaming,” Shiro finally murmurs after far too long a silence of them just watching one another.
“You’re not dreaming,” Adam tells him.
They meet each other halfway, Shiro’s hand hovering at Adam’s face. Adam closes the gap, Shiro whimpering when skin touches skin and he realizes he really isn’t dreaming, that Adam’s here, alive, safe.
Adam’s changed too. The fact he survived the plane crash was thanks to pure stubbornness both on his and the rebel who found him’s part. He didn’t make it out unscathed. He’s got scars too, lots of them from where his helmet hit the windshield, glass breaking everywhere. His hands aren’t what they used too be, his fine motor skills shot to high hell and refined again by knitting the same ball of scrap wool into one long scarf only to pull out the stitches and start over again and again and again.
There’s an almost tingling sensation that thrums through his entire body when he reaches up to cup Shiro’s square jaw, thumb dancing along the thick scar over the bridge of Shiro’s nose. His eyes, despite having seen and experienced so much in the years they’ve been apart, are still that same soft dove grey he fell in love with way back when they were teenagers and love was considered a far-away adult thing.
His fingers dance to Shiro’s temples, combing through the white strands of hair.
“I always knew you’d turn grey before you were due but I gotta say, this suits you.”
Shiro chuckles, but the sound is wet and quickly devolves into hiccups as he tries to catch his breath. His fingers wrap around Adam’s wrist. He feels for Adam’s pulse, a shaky sigh of relief rushing out of him when he finds it.
“I thought you were dead...” Shiro whispers.
“I thought so too,” Adam replies. He makes a joke, because that’s the only way he knows how to deal with situations like these: sass and wit and ill-timed jokes that never seem to land. “I had to get back at you somehow.”
Another weak chuckle, another whimper as Shiro finally breaks and tugs Adam into a bone-crushing hug.
Adam startles but quickly melts into the familiar embrace.
He didn’t think he’d ever get to feel this again. Now that he can, he doesn’t think he’ll give it up anytime soon. Ever, really, if he’s being honest with himself. The universe can try pry him away from Shiro with its own cold claws, but Adam will refuse to budge.
He’s lived a reality without Shiro, knows what it’s like to lose him. He isn’t going to make that same mistake twice.
“I’m so sorry, Takashi.”
Shiro holds him closer, tears leaving wet patches in Adam’s T-shirt.
“Just don’t leave me.”
“Never,” Adam promises. “Never again. I swear.”
“Good.” Shiro pulls back just enough to nuzzle his nose with Adam’s. His words are so soft it’s a miracle Adam even heard them.
“I missed you.”
Adam cradles Shiro, holding him just a little closer.
“I missed you, too.”
