Adarond week. Day 1: first meeting
I'm woefully unprepared for Adarond week @adarondweek, but it is just too tempting not to write for them, so have a little something I wrote for the first prompt. I allowed myself to be a little bit more poetic for this one!
**
Elrond hadn’t even thought of Adar as a person before he met him. Adar had been a word, a banner, a mythical figure, shrouded in darkness and black blood. Adar had been a threat, a problem to solve, a shadow spreading over a complex map.
Then Adar had been a black spot on the horizon, standing in front of a menacing army of fierce warriors, an opponent, an adversary against whom the courtier would whet his Commander’s sword.
Finally, Adar had become a choice. Mercy or ruthlessness. To fight with his sword or his words. To yield and lose or to stand tall at the risk of breaking. To accept there was a darkness lurking within him, straining to get out and play to the tune of his dark, hoarse voice, or to retreat into the light.
To fight with a kiss or with the promise of spilled black blood.
After the kiss he had pressed to Galadriel’s lips, Elrond stood face to face with Adar, contemplating his choices under the piercing gaze of the Moriondor. His breath on his face felt like a veil threatening, promising to engulf him in a seductive world of darkness. For a second, Adar frowned and suddenly, he wasn’t just an idea, a threat, a piece with a complex plan on an already complex map. He was flesh, he was the smell of myrrh, he was lips. He was still.
Elrond nodded, trying to shake his bothersome thoughts. Silence was a choice, an answer. There was nothing left to say.
“Wait!” Adar called, as soon as Vorohil had left him to meet with Durin’s army. Elrond removed his foot from the stirrup.
**
The first time Adar saw the Commander, he recognized him immediately. He knew him, from the half-faded memories of another life. He knew him from the stars shining in his eyes, from the delicate curve of his thin lips, from the sharpness of his words and the softness of his voice.
He was wise as Melian, strong as Luthien, brave as Eärendil. He was as desperate as all of them when faced with a darkness deeper than his own. He was the barely faded beauty of a world he had turned his back to. He was the cruel promise of this world back within arm’s reach where his grasp would only bruise it.
He was the doom Adar had always known would come for him. And here he was, in Adar’s most desperate hour, when everything hinged on how well he could hold his plan for his children.
Elrond looked at him as a mystery to decipher, but Adar saw in him the familiarity of his deepest desire: beauty and doom.
His treachery, the slipping of the pin of his cloak, was new however. There was the scent of mortality on him, familiar but unexpected. He smelled like horses and sage, like scrolls and swords. Like a fight and a kiss.
When Elrond turned to him, finally alone in his war camp, his brow shone as if adorned with one of the three cursed stones. His loveliness, just like Melian’s, would put them all to shame. Adar walked to him, forcing the Commander to take a step back until they were half-hidden behind his white horse.
“You gave Galadriel a kiss and promised her death,” Adar told him with a smirk, bravado to cover his awe, “you promised me death but seem to have forgotten my kiss.”
Elrond opened his mouth to protest but Adar bent his head, pressing a kiss to Melian’s, to Luthien’s, to Eärien’s, to Elrond’s lips. Elrond stilled beneath his attentions and, as Adar’s tongue licked at his lips, the Moriondor swore he could have felt him tilt his chin to offer him more. Adar bit at Elrond’s lower lip, tasting bittersweet mint tea, before letting him go.
“I will find you again on the battlefield,” Adar threatened, or promised, that was a choice Elrond would have to make.

I have prompts! This challenge week starts on Sunday, January 5th, and runs until the 11th.
Day 1: First meeting
Cute? Bitter? Tense? Canon? AU? What happened during their first meeting? What was going through their heads?
Day 2: The spark
What draws them together? (Or one towards the other?) Who falls first? Who falls hardest?
Day 3: The Children
How do Adar's children figure into all this? Are they routing for their father to get some? Do they like Elrond or hate him? How does Elrond feel about the Uruk Children?
(Do Adar and Elrond have a child of their own? 👀)
Day 4: The Reactions
Elrond has a lot of friends (Gil-Galad, Galadriel, Durin, Camnir). How do they react to him being with Adar, however you imagine that happening?
Does Adar have someone close to him that is surprised to see him with Elrond? (The children could also come in here too, if you have multiple ideas)
Day 5: Home
Where is home for this ship? Mordor? Rivendell? How do both of them feel about it?
Day 6: The end
Happy, sad, bittersweet, a few days after meeting, a thousand years in the future; what is the ultimate fate of this ship? If Adar still dies like in canon, how does Elrond feel about that? Does Adar take Celebrían's fate? Do they sail off into the sunset after thousands of years? Something else?
Day 7: Freeform
Did I miss something? Do you have an idea that didn't fit with the prompts? This is for you!
All interpretations of this ship are more than welcome! I've tried to leave the prompts as open as possible to allow for takes with different levels of happiness, conflict, and... consent. At the end of the day, though, these are just prompts. Go where your art leads you and have fun with it!

Adarond Week - Day 1: First Impressions
Elrond
Adar was not at all what Elrond had expected from the commander of a savage people. He sat so regally and serene, he seemed to be presiding over a great hall from a gilded throne instead of a rough-hewn wooden chair inside a ramshackle hut. Elrond refused to be intimidated.
Elrond stared evenly. Strange eyes stared back at him. They were old and full of suffering, to be certain - Elrond had expected that - but they were also warm. Not warm like dying embers; warm like a blazing fireplace seen through a frigid window - full of love reserved for someone else.
Adar
Elrond was almost precisely what Adar had expected. With Lúthien's wit, Thingol's wisdom, Turgon's obstinacy, Fingolfin's daring, and decidedly mannish acceptance of sacrifice, he hardly deviated from the enigmatic “Elrond Peredhel” Adar had researched. (The letters had gone on about his unassuming nature coupled with his apparently striking resemblance to every single one of his ancestors ad nauseum).
Adar’s sources had failed to mention beauty. Haphazard curls gracefully framing an icy face, every scrap of light in the tent reeled in to reflect in his eyes and glint off his razor-edged cheekbones. “You have the beauty of your foremother, Melian.”

Adarond Week - Day 3: The Children
Another small contribution to @adarondweek
“Message received” he murmurs fondly and proceeds to divulge back into the tale of heroes and dragons. As the soft tones of Sindarin flow over his ears, the little uruk nuzzles further into Elrond’s chest, a soft pleased growl escaping the back of it’s throat in content. Yes, Glûg thought, this one will do for Adar.

Adarond Week Day 3: The Children
My second contribution for @adarondweek
“I’m sure the librarians can help you. Why don’t you go ask one of them about your book?” Glûg felt a stab of panic. The prospect of speaking to a strange adult was terrifying. “Which one should I ask?” “I don’t know…” His father glanced across the lobby, impatience palpable. After a moment, he pointed out a male librarian piling books onto a rolling cart. “How about the pretty one over there? I’m sure he’ll know exactly where you can find your book.” Pretty… Glûg immediately latched onto this word, surprised to hear his father take notice of another man’s beauty. He took a moment to assess the librarian for himself before agreeing. “Yes, he seems nice. I’ll go ask him, Dad.”

Adarond week - Day 4: the reactions
This is another quick little thing I've written, it's part of the summer camp!AU I started because I have zero self-control and I can't stop myself. This one is also tame, but gets a little heated in the second part. It's very short so I don't know whether it's going to be posted on AO3. I hope you enjoy the read!
The Whispering
Adar was acting weird again. It was subtle, for now, but weird enough to warrant a meeting.
Meetings were serious occasions. One had to be extra careful not to be noticed by the grown-ups. You had to have an excuse, something innocent enough not to raise suspicion, but solemn enough not to be bothered in case they did discover them.
Lurka always had something up his sleeve. He was the creative one. This time, he had told everyone the story: they were having an ‘end of summer’ meeting behind the canoes by the pier. Tonight, after story-time.
Beneath the pale moon of a calm summer night, the children were sitting on the ground, in their pyjamas, holding their flashlights in each other’s eyes.
“It’s not just Dad,” Glûg started, “all the grown-ups are acting weird now. They keep staring for a long time.”
“It started with Gal and Hal!” Magrot shouted before being violently shushed by everyone.
“They are always whispering!” Vrath added. “And they are always playing during the breaks when we have to nap!” he protested.
“And now El is doing the whispering too!” Lurka noted.
“Maybe they’re planning a surprise? For the end of summer?” Grugzûk suggested but he was only greeted by protests.
“Course not, we’re doing the play just like we do every year!” A clamor of voices raised in the night.
“Let’s review the facts!” Glûg commanded everyone’s attention. They all fell silent and he stood up, walking around the circle, arms crossed behind his back, as a general surveilling his troops. “Hal and Gal have been acting weird all summer. They play together a lot. They let us be alone sometimes, which El never does.”
“He did it yesterday! He let us put the lifejackets away all by ourselves!” Lurka intervened.
“It’s true,” Glûg took it in stride. “Did anyone see anything yesterday?”
“I saw him!” Grugzûk shouted again before being harshly silenced by all the other children.
“Okay,” Glûg turned to him, “don’t shout, what did you see?”
“I saw El on the pier, while we were in the shed, putting the lifejackets away.”
“Was he whispering?” Vrath asked.
“Let him speak!” the children shouted.
“Yes, he was whispering… with Dad!”
“With Dad? With Dad!” the choir of children repeated, in turn surprised, disbelieving, worried, and excited.
“Yes,” Grugzûk continued, “he was standing on the pier with Dad and they were very close so I couldn’t hear anything. At first, I thought they were fighting because he was holding Dad’s t-shirt like this,” he demonstrated on his own t-shirt, grabbing the fabric in a fist. “But Dad was doing that calming thing, you know, when he’s brushing your hair so you don’t cry?”
All the children nodded.
“Hm,” Glûg resumed command over the conversation, “so what do we think? Are Dad and El fighting? Are Hal and Gal fighting too?”
“Sounds more like kissing!” Fury shouted, disrupting the entire conversation like a stone thrown into a somewhat calm lake.
“Stop saying stupid things!” someone shouted back.
“Adults only kiss their husbands!” someone else protested.
“Was Dad putting a seed in El?” someone else asked.
“There’s a difference between whispering and kissing!” the opposing party countered.
“Everyone!” Glûg intervened again, “we’re going to get caught if we continue screaming! Stop it! We need to devise a plan to find out more about this whispering! Dad and El are doing the orienteering activity tomorrow: we need to have teams ready to observe…”
**
“Did you hear anything?” Elrond asked Adar, breaking the kiss to peer into the darkness.
“No,” Adar growled, displeased about not kissing Elrond. He pressed him back to the wall of the shed, bringing him back to business. “But I’m about to hear you call my name soon.”
Elrond let himself be kissed again and moaned when Adar put a thigh between his, pressing up to his erection. Adar took advantage of this and deepened the kiss, his tongue stroking Elrond’s, inviting him to play. Elrond couldn’t help but roll his hips, rubbing himself on Adar’s thigh. Adar broke the kiss to breathe, his own cock twitching, desire pooling in his stomach like lava.
“Adar,” Elrond whined sweetly, grabbing his waist to pull him back close.
“There we are,” Adar chuckled against Elrond’s lips.
Elrond would have protested, vexed, in any other circomstances, but right now, he only cared about being kissed again. He chased Adar’s lips again when he was interruped by more clamour outside.
“Ah, there is something!” he said, vindicated.
“Yeah, I think the children are having one of their meetings,” Adar replied, slipping a hand in Elrond’s boxers, making him gasp.
“Then shouldn’t we… oh…”
“No, we’ll intervene if we hear someone fall in the water. Short of that, there’s something else we should be doing, shouldn’t we, El?”
