i need everyone to know the sheer bewilderment i have when i go to my closet which has 4 newly acquired transformer figurines. and realise i am grinning like a madman or an 8 year old kid (you would be surprised how thin the line gets between the two).
mind you, the last (and really, ONLY) exposure i had to transformers was the bayverse (YEAH. THAT WAS 7 YEARS AGO. WILD.) and the only thing i could recall from that was desperately wanting optimus prime as my father (secondary or replacement i didn't mind) and also being a bumblebee fan. and all in all, it could simply be pegged down as a passing fad.
then a white man transformers one did it in one week DAY.
now i consider myself responsible with my money. you know, delve into an interest, ponder a purchase for a few months, get the details, really CONVINCE myself it's a good decision and commit to the interest before i slap down that credit card.
man, i bought the figurines within a week after watching the damn film.
not to mention now i got all THAT [gesturing vaguely in the direction of every single continuity and iteration over the course of 40 years with its shows, comics, films, novels, games] to catch up on because OBVIOUSLY i can't consume something like a NORMAL PERSON.
so really my question here is: how the flying FUCK did i get front suplexed into this goddamn franchise and when can i expect to get out. if at all.

It’s like 2 in the morning but here we go! This is probably one of the most anti posts I’ll ever make, I’m generally not the type to post about things I dislike, but this has been on my nerves for a while. Alastor is annoying and the fandom makes it worse.
Like he had the potential to be such a cool character but he kind of comes off as just like, trying too hard to be creepy. Like a middle schooler wanting to be weird and scary and edgy. It’s so obvious to me that all he’s doing is posturing because either he’s that overconfident or he knows he’s outclassed by a lot of people.
The fandom didn’t help with my view of him either. When I was first introduced to Hazbin the people who did so painted a neat picture. I love manipulator characters, watching them pull the strings to make everything fall into place according to their whims is entertaining, so I started out really interested in his character.
Then I started poking around the fandom and found… a bunch of people who fell for his mediocre, middle schooler esc manipulation. (I try not to judge simps since I’m aro and don’t experience those emotions, but some of ya’ll…)
The only time I genuinely enjoyed seeing him on screen was when Adam was beating his ass. Every other time he was just annoying.
Like Adam for example is a horrible person but he’s not annoying, he’s entertaining. Alastor could have been a horrible man but incredibly entertaining, but he’s not.
(Related note, I’ve worked with kids and watching Alastor and Vox fight kind of reminds me of that… Alastor and Lucifer too.)
Okay I’m going to sleep now

“Adam Parrish was lonesome. There is no good word for the opposite of lonesome.
One might be tempted to suggest togetherness or contentment , but the fact that these two other words bear definitions unrelated to each other perfectly displays why lonesome cannot be properly mirrored. It does not mean solitude, nor alone, nor lonely, although lonesome can contain all of those words in itself.
Lonesome means a state of being apart. Of being other. Alone-some.” // blue lily, lily blue - maggie stiefvater

I think that Adam was completely innocent in Eden... but honestly still kind of an asshole. Not in the sense that he was malicious but more that he was a spoiled brat. He probably had a lot of sweet moments, especially with the animals, but he would still throw tantrums and sulk when he didn't get his way. It didn't help that Heaven enabled that behavior.
I mean, he was told from the beginning that Eden was his kingdom. That he had dominion over all of the animals. How could he be anything but an entitled little monster in the body of a grown man?
He definitely was an ass to Lilith but not in the sense of domestic abuse. More like a bratty little kid bullying his sister. The angels didn't help this, they forced him and Lilith into the roles of husband and wife before either of them were even old enough to understand themselves and what they wanted from a relationship. Adam tried to be what the Angels told him a husband should be... and that led to him bossing around Lilith, telling her that she had to do what he said because he was the first man and God's favorite creation etc etc.
He was shocked when she rejected him and the plan that Heaven had laid out for them. He probably threw a huge tantrum. And instead of intervening and telling Adam that he had to be nice to his wife-to-be, the angels did nothing to help poor Lilith and instead just made Adam a brand new wife when she ran away. They coddled him and enabled him.
Was Lucifer the only one to seek Lilith out and comfort her? Was he the only one to see her as a person and not just an easily replaced companion for their precious first man?
It's unfair not just to Lilith but to Adam as well.

Just saw a post about how RWBY became unwatchable after they killed Watts off but like the second he started mouthing off at Cinder I knew he was dead. Like did she need to hear some of that sure but Cinder is not about to take criticism from someone like WATTS.
Cinder is a maiden with the backing of SALEM, a trigger finger and something to prove. Was Watts right? Yeah, but now he’s got to die. He’s annoying and useless. Cinder used him for what she needed and discarded him. He got “everything he deserved.”
And it’s not like he’ll be missed necessarily. He had knowledge of atlas tech but atlas does not exist anymore. He didn’t even have one of the top three semblances on Salems team when it was still whole - those three spots going to Hazel, Emerald and Tyrian - like he was not making it out of volume 8 and I think it’s so funny that people are mad about that. Salem is not about to miss him she didn’t even ask about him :P.
He mouthed off at trigger finger, power hungry, has something to prove Cinder, and then expected her not to retaliate. Yeah okay lmaoooo

in the wake of Hazbin Hotel's release I have been seeing a not insignificant number of Sera apologists amidst the fandom
Tumblr media
there appear to be fans who are upset that others in the fandom view Sera as a villain or antagonist of some kind, often citing her care for Emily and Heaven, as well as her hesitance towards the annual extermination as indicators that she is meant to be a "morally grey" character rather than a villain
and here I thought genocide was bad
the entire world is having this very conversation now with Israel, Palestine, and the rest of the planet and their roles in the current genocide, and it may seem in poor taste to compare a real world genocide where real people are dying at this very moment to a silly cartoon, but I believe that this specific perspective speaks to a deeper issue of how people look at genocide and the media around it, an issues that ought to be addressed
the fact remains that Sera green lit a genocide in spite of her moral qualms, and now people are being exterminated like pests rather than human beings
Sera's justification for the genocide is the protection of her people, the same argument used by Israel and its supporters to justify their blatant genocide of Palestinians
the finger is often pointed at Adam and Lute as the real villains, and while they certainly are villains they are far from alone
I hardly think now is the time to be defending Sera's actions as understandable, if not entirely acceptable, as Emily put it "Extermination of human souls? Demon or not there is no reason to be doing this."
I don't mean to compare Palestinians to damned sinners or demons, I merely wish to point out that there is no justification for either of these genocides EVER. NEVER EVER.
PLEASE STOP ENTERTAINING ANY NOTION OF A JUSTIFICATION FOR ANY GENOCIDE.
THERE ISN'T ONE.
PERIOD.
and for the record, Lucifer isn't getting let off the hook, he shares the blame for what is happening, his new efforts to prevent future genocides means something, but it does not make up for or justify any previous crimes
there's some extra bits in the tags if that wasn't wordy enough for you

one of the things that will always destroy me is people believing that good story = darker/more mature/more sexual. this belief has ruined so many stories that could have been amazing & has prevented almost everyone from enjoying other really good stories simply because the age range it's aimed at is one they believe can't have complex themes, characters, plot, etc etc. they don't believe they can be moved by something a publisher or studio decided is for kids & so write it off without even thinking about it. biggest curse of being a writer who actually loves stories & telling them is that literally no one else cares in the most pessimistic, higher-than-thou, capitalism brainrot way you can imagine. & it's all automatic. because that's just what you're taught.
#like people who love all kids media uncritically is another problem#but i find an even bigger one is people not believing animated stuff & younger age range stuff can impact you#like imagine trying to explain something you love so much it makes you cry#& every single time people react as if you told them something batshit off the walls insane like you only eat dirt or something#& they need to help you because there is clearly something wrong with you#& no matter how you explain it they always look at you like a crazy person#i feel like no matter what the kinds of art i love will always get shoved to the back of the closet#how i explain the hopelessness of trying to convince someone they're allowed to watch cartoons#but they're adamant they aren't because they're ''too old for that kind of thing''#it really makes me want to cry. & it makes me angry#anyways this is all to say that the minecraft movie is bad because people are afraid to interact with silly things in good faith#& complete 100% seriousness. they cannot take a concept like minecraft seriously#& so they can't see what it's REALLY about#it's not just haha silly block animal & because they can't see it as it is without the filter of ''for kids''#it will be a bad movie. & it won't represent everything everyone who grew up with that game sees in it#i hate seeing a huge problem & either no one else sees it or they do but just don't care because they don't think it's a problem#it IS a problem. it's a HUGE problem that people think they're not allowed to play or have fun or interact with silly concepts seriously#please take shit seriously i'm crying & i'm begging. we could have had something beautiful#people's inability to acknowledge beauty just because the setting is. in their eyes. for kids. is literally ruining art#& i'm gonna start killing about it#Animorphs save me............................................

Alright here's my full (possibly hot) take on redesigning Hazbin Hotel characters and making a video showcasing those redesigns while you criticize the official designs.
First and foremost, you are redesigning someone else's OCs. Hazbin Hotel is, in essence, a passion project for Viv. How she talks about it makes that incredibly clear to me. The only difference between Hazbin Hotel and, for example, the story I'm developing surrounding some of my D&D OCs is that Hazbin Hotel got picked up by a streaming service and is significantly more popular than most passsion projects get.
Personally if someone wanted to redesign my D&D OCs, I wouldn't mind it, in fact I'd probably think it was really cool that someone would want to redesign one of my OCs to be closer to their tastes in terms of what they like to draw. I would, however, be made incredibly uncomfortable if someone made a video redesigning them where they also pointed out everything they thought was wrong with the designs. I didn't design these specific D&D characters to be 1-to-1 accurate to their classes in D&D or to look professionally designed. I designed them how I wanted them to look for the story I'm telling because I don't plan to ever play them in a campaign. The main character Avlan is a paladin, and I can acknowledge that his design might not look exactly like a paladin. One of the tabaxi in the story (Ice) is a bard and the other (Spark) is a ranger, and I acknowledge that their classes might not come across well in their designs. The single tiefling I've designed for this story (Tragedy) is a cleric but might not come off as one in their design. But I specifically designed them to be easy for me to draw because I want to be able to tell this story through my art. Having someone say "oh, Avlan's armor isn't paladin enough!" or "Avlan's fur colors and patterns should be closer to a wild rabbit's because harengon shouldn't be based on domestic rabbit colors!" would fucking hurt (especially because I'm so attached to Avlan, but it would hurt just as much if similar comments were made about Ice, Spark, or Tragedy). I am so passionate about these characters and being told their designs are bad or wrong in some way would be like a stab in the heart, and it would still feel like a stab in the heart if this story ever got a massive fandom behind it. Giving Avlan more complex armor because you think it'd look cool or just want to see what it'd look like? Sure, if I could draw more complex armor I'd give him more complex armor too. Giving him more complex armor but also shitting on the armor I decide to draw him with? My motivation to draw him in his armor, potentially draw him period, would be dead for WEEKS.
Why is it suddenly okay just because someone's passion project was picked up by Amazon Prime? Why is it suddenly okay to be "fixing" someone's character designs just because the project has a much bigger budget than most artists get and is on a popular streaming service? It's not. I don't care if you're a professional character designer, or think a specific character would look better with certain traits, or just don't like the character designs.
Hazbin Hotel is still Vivienne Medrano's passion project, and redesigning her characters and making videos talking about everything you think is "wrong" with them is, honestly, disgusting. You can make videos explaining your choices in your redesigns without putting down the designs that already exist, whether you like them or not. Me thinking Lucifer looks better with his tail not restricted to his full demon form doesn't suddenly mean I don't like his official design, because I fucking love it. If you wouldn't do it to an artist whose passion project is just a webcomic here on Tumblr, don't fucking do it to an artist whose passion project got picked up for a cartoon by a big streaming service (or any company for that matter).
#hazbin hotel#vent#kinda#i just think it's a weird double standard#'yeah don't fix people's art! unless theyre working on a project that was picked up by a big company then it's fine to fix their art'#like???#why is that a mentality that exists?? they're still viv's characters#and you can still redesign them without shitting on the official designs#pretty much all of my redesign notes for hazbin hotel are 'how can i make this character easier and more fun for me to draw'#because i specialize in furry art. i don't usually draw humanoids lol#so giving vox some shark traits for example or making adam more birdlike would make them more fun for me to draw#why can't we redesign them based on that without saying 'i think it's weird that this decision was made for this character's design'#they're still viv's characters. they're still her designs. stop pointing out everything you think is wrong with them for fucks sake#we don't need to talk about hazbin's character designs. we don't need to 'fix' them#just say they aren't for you and move on. there's literally nothing inherently wrong with them#i also feel like not enough people actually do research into the historical contexts of some characters#and i think it'd be really fuckin cool to see people redesign characters more based on headcanons based on that than anything#look into how the mafia operated in new york in the early/mid 1900s for angel. look into radio hosts in the 1920s for alastor.#look into las vegas culture during husk's lifetime for husk. look into the culture surrounding tv hosts in the 1950s for vox.#LOOK INTO THE CULTURE OF THE ELIZABETHAN ERA FOR ZESTIAL.#(i just presented zestial ideas to anyone who wants them on a silver platter. you're welcome)#(also new headcanon that zestial was friends with shakespeare in life because why the fuck not)#(when the tags get wildly out of hand)

hey. anyone ever think about 1x06 Skin. what if Dean died, but being in Dean's shape made something snap in the shifter's mind and it decided to take Dean's place for real. and it had absorbed enough of Dean's memories and personality that he was pretty much just Dean except Sam is more wary of him, at least for a while. (and John of course never notices that's not his real son.)
