beloved by urchinesque (2016, 1.9k, NR, warning: death) It might be the gentlest thing that's ever happened to them.

in my opinion everyone should read this once. it's quick. they die. it's-- happy, somehow. beautiful. i think about it all the time.

Last Day on Earth by candle_beck (2009, 10.8k, E) A list of things to do if you only have one day to live, presented in inconvenient non-list form.

last year my best friend and i were pondering which fic felt quintessential to samdean for us and somehow settled on this one. i still agree with the choice.

Odysseus, American by coyotesuspect (2010, 10k, M) Dean finds Peter O'Toole's recording of the Odyssey in a bin marked “Audio" in Casa Grande's only used bookstore. The place smells like cigarette smoke and old books, and it reminds him of Sam. Stanford era.

my favorite stanford era fic. i think it captures dean's loneliness and desperation beautifully.

A man with his insides out and his outsides off by britomart_is (2016, 5.3k, E, time travel, underage) They say there are only two stories in the world: man goes on a journey, and stranger comes to town.

another fic i want everyone to read. it's so short and feels like a novel. sam is messed up and dean is in love and everything is miserable.

Breathing Hard by whereupon (2009, 9k, E) The day Dean figures it out.

this is so simple and yet-- everything to me. i can't think about dinosaurs without thinking about this fic, which doesn't tell you much, but you'll see. sometimes this is really all you need.

The Last Outpost of All That Is by gekizetsu (2008, 59k, E) The world ends while they’re asleep.

this fic has stayed with me my whole life. i thought about it even during my years away from spn and fandom entirely. they're alone and you don't know why and they build their life together and you end up wondering, is this hell or heaven? whenever i come across a screenshot of the last couple of paragraphs i want to cry.

see things so much clearer by deadlybride (2020, 11.7k, E) Sam's been acting oddly. Dean learns how to use the history on an internet browser and finds out why.

this is a fic that hits the spot for me personally so well. another favorite preseries fic. i love the idea of sam using livejournal, and of dean finding out this way.

Stay The Distance by lazy_daze (2011, 24k, E) Sam is dependent on Dean's touch and closeness after the wall falls - Dean's presence reminds him of why he chose to wake up, and keeps the memories at bay, allowing Sam to function.

i love enmeshment, and i love that here it's literal. i love that they're just sort of fine with it.

One I remember rn is this Black Sails x Solaris!AU I bookmarked once upon a time... the concept fucks so so hard. That one is definitely first on the list for 2025.

Less tumblr, more ao3 xD. Both in writing and yes, in reading & commenting. Largely, I want to spend the free time I'll have in 2025 writing (both ff and original) and engaging more with that side of things.

i've barely written anything in the past two months (which were rough for several reasons) but i'm trying to get back to it. list of my wips that i actually intend to finish:

dig: holes au for valzhang week murder mystery prompt. late by this point obviously but i will finish it at some point! this was inspired by my workplace showing the movie holes. it started out smaller but at this point i have all of the nine main heroes of olympus characters involved somehow.

black night salt up from the ocean floor: frazel oneshot, just something weird for me, set in 1942 alaska

how many children had lady macbeth?: prequel fic, partly finished, goes back and forth between 1940-41 new orleans and 1942 alaska and sometimes 1927 new orleans.

sequel fic: haven't settled on a title yet, even though this is my longest and most involved wip. covers at least the next ten years of hazel's life if not more

list of notes app wips that i have something down for but probably won't touch until the urge strikes:

frank meets the lost hero trio oneshot. they pick him up on the quest to california to free hera because he's hitchhiking to camp. obviously the timeline's off but i thought it would be funny.

valzhang soulmates au where their name turns up on your arm. canon compliant for how they meet in mark of athena for maximum messiness. an "everyone disliked that" situation

sequel to the halting problem. i have a rough trajectory in mind but its harder because i'm not sure whether to wrap it up during house of hades or include blood of olympus. also most of what i have down is either hazel's distraught inner monologue or percy and frank bullying leo.

frazel tartarus au. honestly i had two scenes in mind and nothing else but i wrote them! hazel drank out of the river of misery and lived to regret it.

the lost hero au where nico and hazel are switched. i genuinely do want to revisit this bc i had several scenes down and i think it would be fun to publish even as an incomplete project. i just have to remind myself that i don't actually have to add to the worldbuilding or actually try to rewrite the lost hero.

underworld siblings modern au where the three of them are all trust fund babies. i decided to make it a frazel bodyguard au while i was at it but its mostly about the siblings and their antics.

frazeleo multichapter au where they're all young adults who become fugitives from camp jupiter and meet each other on the run. they have to survive and stay one step ahead while also having to deal with each other.

a few others that i almost certainly won't finish: yellowjackets au (too long), hazel/reyna story (no plot), platonic frank & hazel au based off of the movie plan b (too undignified) (great movie tho)

i also want to move all of the ao3 fics on my rec list to ao3 bookmarks so i can organize them better, but i don't want to bookmark works without actually reviewing them and i've been putting that off because its time consuming to do all at once, but i'm going to work on it!

love is a series of organized chaos is a classic (smut). it's unfinished which is devastating but it's also in like one-shot form so it doesn't really leave a storyline hanging. but really it's so fucking good

ketchup toast ! (not smut) had me lying in bed Pondering about life for hours, days after finishing it. would recommend if you want to go through a quiet and unspecified crisis. it's amazing

Hey, Isn't This Easy is such a nice, good fic. reads really well and is a lovely story

kiss her once is another fic that made me question everything. read it in one sitting listening to last waltz on repeat and i've never been the same since. save me mimo... fucking great plotline + it's so nicely-worded

Kiss Land series (smut with plot) goes so hard too. (edit: just realized it's written by artistic_groove too, but the series was put together by another acct? idk)

if you want something to really Think about, most of Kourinn's English Collection is really good, specifically the MoHyo-verse ones. (they do a deep dive into dynamics and stuff, idk how to explain it but whenever i reread a work of theirs i always discover a new, deeper level to it)

and finally! Seasons by JesusCheese (i've mentioned this author before) is probably my favourite 9wice hurt/comfort fic. (please beware of the tags before you read it)

Stand By Me again technically, so i'll go with the second one with most words!!! My medieval AU!!! It started as a joke and by the end of it I had created so much lore and tradition and culture, it read like another story entirely. I'm super proud of it and extremely happy that I managed to finish it <3

Useless to say, Stand By Me is still n1 and Golden Phantom is n2. Third place: the first installment of my FACPOV (sort of?) series, also known as the Catverse because I gave Obi-Wan a cat (and Anakin will get one too). I have one more story I plan to write and it's really funny that it all started from a Tik Tok I saw lmao

Fewest words/Least Subscriptions

For the fewest words category we have this flashfic I wrote after being BOMBARDED with pictures of Ewan's hands and I LOVED how it turned out!!!! Plus: my favourite SW writer commented on it and I still can't believe it happened.

Next: fewest subscriptions. Possibly the fic I liked the most writing and DRAINED ME in the best possible way. It's written as a sort of inner dialogue and man, I love writing crazy shit from Vader's pov. He's so fucked up and broken and full of contradictions. I wish more people read it but it's definitely not everybody's cup of tea.

Another flashfic about Anakin and his relationship with sand that I absolutely adored writing but that basically no one read, yeah. It's a pity but it doesn't suprise me because it's the second fic in an obianidala series and there's not many people into the ship.

Category: least kudos! At n1 we have Sky and Sand, then Battle fot the Sun. Third place goes to my pinocchio AU! Obi-Wan is horribly sad in this one because Anakin is dead and writing it was terrible because I kept crying lmao. I still love the concept and I'll probably edit it at some point because it wish it got the attention I think it deserved. It's a good one, at least for my own standards

As for least hits, other than Sky and Sand and Battle for the Sun we have its prequel, in which I make Obi-Wan suffer horribly like he does in the OWK series. Once again, basically no one read it and I wish more people did because I love writing angst and this one is OOOF an angstfest.

I’m looking for a Wilmon fic, and can’t find it in my AO3 bookmarks. It’s more of a fic series than a single fic. It’s an Erik lives AU, and it starts out very lighthearted, lots of banter. Some chapters are in regular descriptive prose, while other chapters are Text messages between Erik and Simon, and group text chains with Simon, Rosh, and Ayub. It’s all quite sweet and fluffy until during Christmas break, both Erik and Wilhelm get into a car crash. Erik is in a coma, Wilhelm has a broken leg. I can’t remember what happens next. Is this ringing any bells for any of my YR mutuals?

Do you have any creative process for like organize your ideas?

My notes app on my phone really. If something comes to mind I add it there. Each fic I have in the works has its own note page. And then for like research, I have folders with different bookmarked web pages. So like for my nfl buck fic I have the schedule from the rams 21-22 season, along with stats and scores, there’s also a bookmarked page for different players, and whatever else I need for the most accurate fic.

Some ideas don’t ever leave the notes app, some are even deleted bc of creative reasons or bc of canon show events that differ too much. I try not to have too many wips going at once bc I get overwhelmed easily sometimes and my life is hectic enough.

But if I do really like an idea I come up with, I actually try to type up a few paragraphs, feeling it out and then I’ll start up some research, make a new note page with character details, maybe a timeline, and some ideas on what I want in the fic at some point.

A little messy and chaotic but it is actually organized to my standards.

new New Dream fic - More Than He Could Hope For

So back in July, it was New Dream Appreciation Week and @nerdasaurus1200 wrote this adorable AU for the "forbidden love" prompt, which left me with a silly grin on my face.

And around the same time, I read just this heart with much too much to share, which was written back in 2014 (I bookmarked it then and took nine years to read it, whoops), so before the series or anything. And there's a scene in that where Kristoff and Eugene are talking about their relationships with their respective Princesses and Eugene says he initially wasn't allowed anywhere near Rapunzel once he brought her home, due to his reputation. And while I am quite confident that's not what happened, I thought it was interesting angle to explore and so here we are!

I'm not an especially fast writer, so 7400 words took me a full month to get down and honestly I'm surprised it happened that quickly. My initial plan was just a couple thousand words of angst/fluff followed by a happy ending, but then it developed an actual plot. Which is definitely new for me in terms of fic writing.

Back when I was in my 20s and writing fic regularly before, I generally stuck to short missing scene and character study-type one shots. At the same time, I really struggled with planning and finishing any original projects. So I think the fact that I wrote this and wrote it quickly (for me) is a testament to how my skill as a writer has developed in the last few years, and I'm feeling pretty proud of that!

3. Describe the creative process of writing a chapter/fic

My creative process? Well, I have an idea, I try to summarize it in one sentence. Then I decide if I want to do a one-shot or a multichapter fic. If it's multichapter I start thinking about how I'm going to divide it up. Assign character roles, then I write out an entire bare-bones plot and divvy it up into chapters. When I start on a chapter I use that as a guideline and let myself work from point A to point B as organically as I can. Sometimes as I'm writing further in the chapter, something clicks and I scroll back to pop a detail in. For one-shots I usually allow myself a lot more freedom and just jot down a few concepts before I launch into writing the actual fic.

13. What’s a common writing tip that you almost always follow?

Learn the rules so you know when and how to break them. Seriously, the rules are important so that you can break them at the right times for maximal impact.

25. What fic do you wish you got more of a response on?

Hmm, I don't know if it really counts because I'm actually really happy with the response I got on it, considering it's a rarepair in a fandom that's still pretty new...but I am incredibly proud and happy with A Different Kind of Magic; my multichapter Kalim/Idia fic for Twisted Wonderland. I love it very much and am always happy to see that someone else has liked it or commented or bookmarked it 💜

37. How do you choose where to end a chapter?

Well, I actually do this prior to even writing the actual fic. I have a detailed outline that allows me to group certain points together into chapters and then I highlight them in the work as I work through them, so that I know what I've hit and what I still need. I try to limit it to only a few points per chapter, but the actual amount just depends on how long I want to spend on each of the points. If it's a super important or heavy topic that takes a lot of work and words to get across properly, the chapter may only really have one "point".

Once I've hit the points in the chapter and covered them in the depth I want to, I end it.

40. If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?

Honestly, if anyone ever draws anything based on my fics, I will cry happy tears. It's such an honour and I really can't pick or choose which ones I would rather have. I would be so flattered.

42. What’s the last fic you read? Do you recommend it?

The last fic I read was...Just a Normal Citizen (Not a Dimension Traveler), a lovely Twisted Wonderland mafia au that I *highly* recommend everyone check out! It's so fun. (I love you friend and I love everything you write!)

sugar, we're going down swinging; BananasofThorns - Double Life oneshot. Etho and Joel are the last ones standing. A lot of bloody violence, but it's so pretty and the pacing is perfect.

Soulmate-Things With Other People; savannah_owl - Double Life oneshot. People break off in pairs during Impulse and Bdubs's pool party to.... hang out. Featuring many pairs from previous seasons or other series. It's lots of fun and more innuendo than not.

and by resilient i mean which holds; TheYesterdayShow - Double Life oneshot (are you noticing a pattern). Martyn and Cleo win. It's... still not working out for them. Pitch-perfect character voice. A little bitter, a little sad, a little looking at the pieces of a life that was never going to happen.

to catch a secret soulmate; wormcity - Oh you know what this is by now. The server comes together to (attempt to) catch Bigb's secret soulmate. I once said I would nominate this for "Best At Capturing Double Life's Sitcom Energy" and I stand by that!!

you're the fool, i'm just as well; honeyblock - You know. Pearl gets sick. Scott, feeling the effects of this through the soulbond, attempts to deal with this. A delight to read -- everyone is miserable and there are so many good lines.

under my skin?; Sixteenthdays - Double Life. The soulbond is literally, physically giving each pair their partner's traits. People attempt to cope with this to varying degrees of success. It's sad or sweet or charming; it's good writing all around.

rainy day; whatcaniwriteinthis - Double Life. It's raining, and everyone settles in to wait it out. Little vignettes showing off what everyone is up to. I like the style of the narration; it's fun!

those were kinder times; SurrealSupernaturalist - Double Life. Team Rancher, in another world. The overwhelming feeling of this fic is warmth and sweetness. Look, you want domestic fluff of Team Rancher living their lives on an actual ranch? This is it!

the lamb & the knife; errorryx - Limited Life. Cleo warns Pearl they're going to summon a goddess of war. Pearl considers this and attempts her own summoning. Maybe I just like when Pearl thinks about killing, what of it.

Tour Day (Or: "Four Times Cub Was the Weird One, and Two Times He Wasn't"); mxMallory - Season 9. Jimmy arrives on Hermitcraft for a tour of the server and discovers just how deranged the Hermits are. Funny and charming and it's good when people are flabbergasted by Canon-Typical Hermit Behaviour.

a beginner's guide to the guardianship and maintenance of neutral territory (hermitcraft-specific); Sixteenthdays - Season 7. One of the hazards of the profession is sometimes you get a little possessed by your base. It's cool! It's fine! (It's really fucking good writing.) Light formatting fuckery. Makes me want to yell.

fixed and dilated; iamsolarflare - Season...8? Xb and Hypno circle each other. They're friends, they're running Horse Head Farms together, they're both trying to figure out the other's secrets without revealing their own. Something about the characters' internal monologues is very good. Clever people thinking interesting things.

Brave New World; savannah_owl - Season 9. From the moment the Hermits set foot in their new world, things start going wrong. Incredibly good at setting an ominous tone and sticking to it. I'm fascinated by the worldbuilding re: how and when the Hermits record themselves.

Pitfalls; storm_warning - Season 9. Doc has a baby dragon for a pet. This one's cute, silly, and good times all around.

here it is (our final night alive); BananasofThorns - Season 1. The various happenings around the dragon fight, but in a God AU. This author writes such good action sequences. I've said before it's like watching someone who is very good at parkour do their thing, and I'm right!!

follow the leader; Dynames2308 - Season 1. The Codfather leaves and his people follow. Wanna get so so sad about Jimmy with me in less than 250 words? Read this one!

A Matter of Dust; hallmarked_error - Season 1. Daemon AU, following the twins fWhip and Gem as they grow up, and figure out what growing up means in the process. You know how sometimes sticking to a very traditional structure / style / theme can be a demonstration of incredible technical skill? That's what's happening here.

Enough; orphan_account - Season 1. fWhip gets corrupted. He and Pix have a final confrontation in front of the Vigil. Overwhelmingly the vibes of [everyone here is doomed]. I like the Pix & Jimmy, and I like what's going on with fWhip.

and we all know how this will end; weareallstardustfallen - Season 1. fWhip and Pix hang out at the Vigil and talk a bit about Pixandrian customs. This one's quiet and steady and tender and melancholy. Good for Gunpowder Boys friendship and banger lines.

Private Lessons; RainyDayDecaf - Season 2. Scott and Sausage flirting at the new dance studio in Chromia. That's the whole fic, but I promise it's really charming.

These Stones Remember; ValloisFulcanelli - Season 2. A series of short scenes in which Pixlriffs explores the ancient capital. Slightly an AU in ways that are hard to describe? But it's very pretty and will make you vaguely achy about the depths of history and the enormity of time and space.

Drunk and Desireable; SolSearchingNights - Season 2. Katherine and Jimmy find each other at a Tumble Town bar and discover they have a lot in common re: the state of their love lives. Really funny; it turns out these two are utterly delightful together!

Gin and Juice; mxMallory - Season 2. Hermes sets out to figure out why no one will talk to him about this mysterious thirteenth empire out in the mesa. Written in something like a storybook style, it's really cute! Incredibly charming.

take the crown; NavnLark - Season 2. Great Witch Shelby, from childhood to present. Wanna get so so sad about Shelby with me? I'm having trouble describing what I like about this but I like it a lot.

toys and toymakers; rabbit_with_a_sword - Season 2. A god's belief is enough to turn a town into a toyhouse. Horror-flavoured. Well-written and pretty and appropriately upsetting!

Living Ghosts; Umbrify - Season 2. Jimmy sneaks into the Goblands's storehouse to cause problems. He is... maybe not successful. fWhip and Jimmy get to be a little haunted by whatever's left of their relationship! The little details are piercing and sad.

Fic stats game

Check this out. I saw it on @therulerofallpotatos, reblogged from @ourdramaqueen, who themselves reblogged it from somewhere else, because it's NOT one everyone just adds to. In fact it doesn't appear to be a tag game. Just do it if you, like I, think it looks fun!

Most hits: "On the End of Endgame: A Series of Scenarios" at 1,105 hits.

Second Most Kudos: SIGH. This is the wrong one. "Chapter 19.5: Hidden. Safe. Somewhere." is a perfectly nice little fic, but there's no way it got to 103 kudos organically. It's from a super-small fandom where I tend to get ten kudos at most for works I put a lot more work into, and there are no tags that make it stand out in any way (there are only four additional tags, and only half of those are actual tags that aren't freeform rambling and even that's just "Missing Scene" and "Post-Season/Series 02"), and there are only 250 hits, which is an awfully close hit-to-kudo ratio. 4 of those kudos are registered users, the other 99 are guests, and while I'm sure some of those are real people, the majority must be some sort of glitch that was happening last summer. I'd get new "guest" kudos for this fic every day. It was the only notification from AO3 that would DISAPPOINT me, because I knew it wasn't REAL!

So my most likely more organic answer is "Not Just Stupid Kids," which is catching up at 96 kudos, and while I'm not entirely sure all of THOSE are organic either since it outnumbers my other Fiktor fiks by double...but maybe not, because only 34 of those are guests and that seems totally likely for a somewhat-controversial ship.

Third most comments: I'm not sure about this question because if you're actually going by what's on your stats page, it lists fics not by individual comments but by unique comment THREADS. And since the answer to comment THREADS is "On the End of Endgame" again at 9, and I already linked to that one, the third most COMMENTS is a tie between "Exploration of the Astral Plane" and "A Strictly Scholarly Collaboration" at 15 comments each.

Fourth Most Bookmarks: Is another tie, at 12, between "The Puppy-Fly Effect" and "On Soul Mates and Nemeses".

Fifth most words: "We Will (Not) Always Have Each Other" at 9,672 words. Aw, I'm happy to give that one a little extra spotlight, here!

Which is why this game is so interesting! It lets me talk about fics that don't get singled out very often! (Although I did specifically link to BOTH my "third most comments" tie in the very LAST Writer's Ask game I did).

But then on the other hand, my last answer is another repeat:

Least words: "The Puppy-Fly Effect" at 849 words, but hey, it's short and sweet and you should read it as it's probably one of my most accessible fics, since pretty much everyone knows the source material for once. okay so just because i started a multi-chapter fic that i actually wanted to finish the next thing i know i have so many documents open with multi-chapter stories and im repeating a mistake i made that ended up with a lotta discontinued fics

instead of being kicked out of the dorms because of outing the guy at the police academy for like cheating on his s/o or whatever, he reluctantly continues and becomes a detective. the youngest ever, and the one who has ended up solving the most cold cases ever.

he becomes tsukauchis problem he is also quirkless. he was never told that he had an ability by fukuzawa-dono. but he is insanely smart, even more then nezu

hes taught by the law enforcement there that not everyone knows what he does, so its important to point things out

ranpo doesnt have much skill in protecting himself, but his knowledge lets him predict some things, as a faux foresight. he gets bested by a new organization (The LOV? except they have more power, and recruit Mushiro Fushiguro or whats its name, the guy with the Perfect Crime ability. Ranpo got involved in the investigation against the LOV. Someone is killed as a threat, and right before his eyes all the evidence is gone, and he has that feeling that something is missing. ..Ah. It's threatening him not to go any further. He does.), and tsukauchi gets hurt, therefore the police department is deemed too risky and is moved to the custody of one Aizawa Shouta. (ofc, erasermic, and shinsou is there) He ends up shadowing Aizawa at his job, having already graduated, and technically class a's senpai.

on the meanwhile, the investigation team collaborates with the Armed Detective Agency from Yokohama, noting the existence of an Ability User they had been chasing down, having been able to figure out that the murder of a certain Mystery novel writer had been in close-ish contact with a man with an ability. 'Perfect Crime'.

like lady nagant, the guy fuckin DIES after they find him and have an encounter and ends up regretting it (because of course ranpo figures it out) but not after giving a very ominous message

they go to the summer camp, ranpo as an honorary member, and trusting in his teammates, gets kidnapped instead in place of bakugo.

afo is interested in the self-proclaimed greatest detective, the youngest one in fact. ranpo feels threatened. he wants him. needs those strategic smarts, but knows that Ranpo would never. Instead, he would make it so Ranpo could never help the other side. He shatters him. for once, his intuition fails him. his teammates are too late.

He was scared. (this is what he gets for being reckless all the time. almost suicidal with how much trust he puts in his colleagues to make it in time.)

think of yosano after she exploded the thing and was all depressed and unreacting.

before this, he meets shinsou at aizawa's place. he bluntly questions why shinsou hasnt used his mindreading. shinsou: what?? aizawa: what have i told you about people not understanding some things? stop being so blunt. ranpo: blink blink oh. Hey Shinsou, did you know that logically you should be able to mind read someone while you're brainwashing them- well actually, its more like you're putting them to sleep, but in a state of sleepwalking, y'know? so their mind is still kinda active and registering things that they're seeing in dreams, and you can interact with them that way and their mind would be much easier to see and read because you're kind of.. in their brain? shinsou: … I CAN DO WHAT NOW? aizawa: ..Ranpo.

shinsou reaches out to ranpo. his eyes stay in their shattered shape but he can see after hes free.

ranpo learns to be less hesitant, but is still paranoid.
