How to support the WGA Strike

Okay so. At our member meeting the other night someone asked if we are going to do a campaign asking people to cancel their subscriptions. Leadership said no -- the problem with a campaign like this is that it could really backfire. If it becomes a big, publicized thing, then the pressure is on to have a huge percentage of cancellations from the general public, which look, realistically, we know we’re not likely to receive, even from people who are sympathetic to us. So an official campaign is not something they’re interested in pursuing, though, of course, any pressure our allies and supporters can put on the companies of their own accord is very welcome.

They also said that out of all of the companies in the AMPTP, Netflix is the fucking worst.

So, with all that said, I’d like to address everyone who has so kindly been messaging me to ask how they can show their support. Here’s a suggestion, not from the WGA in any official capacity but just a thought from your friend and fellow Tumblrina Sam: Cancel your Netflix subscription. When they ask why, tell them it’s because you want them to return to the table and give us a fair deal. Then donate your subscription fee to the Entertainment Community Fund, which is a fund that is available to any worker in the entertainment industry who is negatively impacted by the strike.

Mood board for my latest project. Little bit of it below the cut.

You eat the lunch you packed and pull off your sweater, the noon sun warming you up enough to not need it, at least for the moment. You putt along to a new spot and try fishing again, this time catching three good sized fish. Surprising, considering the time of day, but sometimes you get lucky. You're thinking about heading back home when you spot a flash of white under the water.

You grab your camera, determined to be ready. And then a grey shape launches out of the water and into your boat, nearly capsizing it. The white orca sluices through the water next to your boat a moment later, regarding you disdainfully with one bloodshot eye. He flicks his tail as he dives again, soaking you and your passenger.

Your seal friend makes himself comfortable at the prow of the boat, entirely too pleased with himself.

"You're on thin ice, mister!" You tell him, turning back the way you'd come. Thanks to him you missed your photo and nearly went for a swim in deep water. You're pretty sure he couldn't help you out of that situation even if he wanted to, especially with a hunter swimming just below. You certainly don't want four inch teeth biting you in half.

Of course, you don't want to see your friend get eaten in front of you either. You know its the way of the ocean, but he's your little buddy.

The white orca cuts across your path again. You stop your engine, heart hammering, and grab your camera. He disappears into the depths for a moment, and then jumps a little ways away. If you didn’t know better, you’d say he was showing off. You get several quick snaps that you know will be gorgeous— Water droplets catching the sun, his ghostly white body stark against the backdrop of the dark ocean. You grin at the seal, and yelp when something thumps the bottom of your boat, rocking it harshly.

Then the white orca (he needs a name, so you land on Ghost) surfaces next to you, terrifyingly close, and spits water at the seal.

“Holy shit,” you breathe, adjusting your lens for the close contact, camera shutter clicking away as you shoot pictures. Ghost eyes you, and then spits water a second time. The seal looks deeply offended, but not concerned, even with his hunter bobbing in the water a few feet away. “Aren’t you a pretty boy.”

He is pretty. A juvenile, maybe, now that you see him up close— He’s a bit small for an orca, but he’s all alone out here, no pod to speak of, and a juvenile wouldn’t survive on it’s own. As if he can hear your compliment, he creaks at you.

The seal barks back. He seems offended by Ghost’s presence. Understandable, since Ghost was trying to eat him earlier. You get a few funny snaps of the two of them regarding each other over the rim of the boat, having a conversation that you have no way of understanding. You feel a bit insane. A bit like you’re going to wake up laying in the bottom of your boat any minute, and this will all be a funny dream.

hey man I appreciate you letting me know and I did delete that post and reblogged a version that didn't have that person's comment on it because after looking at that person's blog I wasn't comfortable reblogging from them even tangentially, but as a general psa I am not double checking every single blog on every single post I reblog for questionable content. If I see a name I recognize or it shows up red on shinigami eyes or the post is related to the topic at hand, I'll scope things out, but it isn't reasonable to expect me to do that all the time for every post and for every conceivable topic, nor is it reasonable for me to expect you guys to let me know every time you recognize a blog that, as an example, supports throwing cans of beans at baby seals but made an unrelated comment on a post about cake.

Since it's not going in my article due to space constraints, i'll share a bit about Jane Manning James here. It won't be superfleshed out atm bc it got cut. I plan to do more later. As I am *Reorganized*, writing this for a Community of Christ publication, i researched Ld-S shared history to the point of Nauvoo. my article doesn't follow west (technically). the main resource was an LDS one (thank you v much for your freely available archive) asking about her time with the prophet of the Restoration.

Jane Manning James

A significant Black Latter Day Saint from the early church was Jane Manning James. A woman from Connecticut notably made the walk from Buffalo, New York to Nauvoo, Illinois on foot, with most of her family. This was only after being separated from the group of recently converted latter day saints in Buffalo, possibly due to their race. Jane was baptized in 1842 by missionaries in her home state of Connecticut. She recorded these things about her journey and arrival to Nauvoo and her faith when asked to recall her life living with Joseph Smith in 1905.

“When I went there [Nauvoo] I only had two things on me, no shoes nor stockings, wore them all out on the road… They [Joseph and Emma] was looking for us because I wrote them a letter. There was eight of us, my mother and two sisters and a brother and sister-in-law, and we had two children, one they had to carry all the way there, and we traveled a thousand miles.”

She was sure in her belief of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ and Modern Prophecy. She says in her recollection, after seeing that Joseph Smith Jr was indeed the man in her vision in Connecticut, that “This is the Gospel of Jesus Christ and there will never be any other on earth. It has come to stay.” Sister James would later go west with the saints under the leadership of then Apostle Brigham Young.

thank you for the example set Sister James on faith, dedication, and perseverance. She also had spiritual gifts, such as speaking in tongue and faith healing. She believed following the gospel, knowing it was a key to a better way of living life (for her.) it wasn't easy for her, and yet, i think the faith community i observe today (and mormonism in general) is better, just for her having lived it.

may she be at peace, and in a manner God, Sister Jane herself, and her family she led that meant so very much to her, see fit.

I drafted a wikipedia article for a pirate this week and it was rejected because the original ink-and-parchment transcript of his trial and execution in 1718 wasn't considered a "reliable" source, even though A General History of the Pyrates by Charles 'I Made this Up' Johnson was approved of, and that encapsulates the true/untrue energy of pirate history so perfectly that I can't even be mad about it

This whole art was me just wanting to draw Cyber looking all fancy with his strings and 'crown' of claws.

There's like 50 paragraphs of lore behind the strings and claws and the fact I spent the time to make sure he had specifically 10 eyes.

This was super fun to draw too!! I rarely do art like this so it was a bit of a struggle to figure out where to put everything with the three colors I allowed myself on the art itself (Excluding the light teal color of his magic and spikes.

Is the head a bit to busy? Yes Probably, but a friend pointed out that it all leads to his face to attract attention to him and that's very fitting for his character so it works out. Also ignore the fact he has four fingers on his top arms and only 3 on the lower, IT WAS TOTALLY ON PURPOSE AND CONNECTED TO HIS LORE 100%

half of it was literally mine anyways and i left it in the hoarder pile where i knew it could remain untouched for years til i escaped to a stable living situation where it could be set up safely.

thats... still not happening anytime soon, and may never. but the pile's gotten so much more extreme and filthy it's being actively destroyed where it is now so i gotta emergency airlift it to the less dangerous situation. scary stuff either way

i didnt expect the shift with mr beast to happen for another like 5 years tbh, idk why, i kind of thought it would come from an old disgruntled employee, but this gradual disillusionment is probably better for actually discussing issues, rather than a twitter bloodbath i guess

me too, on both counts! he seemed on top of the world (and really he still is, a few 100k tweets won’t change his view numbers) so him falling out of favor wasn’t on my radar for a good while yet. i don’t think he’s going anywhere anytime soon, and twitter discourse probably isn’t going to make a meaningful effect in how he presents himself. but if it pushes back against the general mr-beast-ification of youtube that’s been happening then i think it’s worthwhile :P

Well attempt #2 (clear) is almost passable and a lot better than attempt #1 (blue) but I'm almost done with a re-work of the mold and everything so hopefully #3 works out better..

We'll have to see sometime tomorrow.
