#NoDejahVu - I became an activist in 2016 because my 14-year-old cousin committed suicide due to bullying. I became my family's spokesman when my cousin was too stricken with grief to field the influx of support, and undercover opportunist. There is currently an 11-year-old being bullied in Suffolk. Came to Del Rio with no idea where to go. No idea what the need was. No idea how I would find the Haitians everyone kept sharing images and videos of. Every activist that said they would pull up, said they left because the media told them it was over. Or just didn't make their way there. I'd never been to #Mexico before, never even left the country before. I don't speak a lick of Spanish. When I crossed the bridge, the hombre with the candy took me to the camp for a small fee. There's barely phone service, no protection from the United States. The laws I was raised on didn't exist. The language I speak was no good there. Coming back home wasn't guaranteed. I prayed often and asked the ancestors to guide me. I got taxed just for bringing in materials from the USA. All I can do is thank GOD for the journey. In closing, #HaitianLivesMatter - We are fully vested in assisting this refugee camp. Their needs are overwhelming, but there's no way they traveled on foot for 3 months just to be rejected. This is at least a 6-month project. There are pregnant women, children, families, and they all need us. If you can assist...
