Don't mind me, I'm just gonna rip off @andmaybegayer's Last Monday of the Week thing...

Playing: In Street Fighter 6, I'm firmly in Platinum-1 with Zangief now! I got obsessed with Magic Arena again, but it's ebbing off already. The only thing in Magic that I'm really into is Draft (but I can really get into that), and I committed to not spend money on that anymore, and grinding the Constructed queues to afford drafts gets boring quickly.

Also, my board gaming group is in session again after an eternity. Our vacations lined up exceptionally badly this year! We played Eclipse, a 4X board game. When it comes to PC games, I've really fallen out of love with that genre, but I like it in board games. I think it's because board games have to keep the complexity bloat somewhat manageable.

Reading: Shamefully little! Some stuff for work.

Listening: History podcasts have been on hold in favor of Magic podcasts such as Limited Resources and Lords of Limited. A new one I found was Magic Numbers which is about applying data science to Magic. As I said, I can get really into it...

Also discovered a new Doom Metal band, Dautha!

(Still don't know what to use instead of Bandcamp if they go down after firing half their staff...)

to summarize an unduly rambly post: our control over kris has been steadily growing more and more distressing for them throughout the story. the snowgrave route, possibly the most gut wrenching, violating imposition of our will on theirs AND Noelle's (*homer voice* so far!), explicitly, thematically, and visually represents possession and coercion through romantic imagery, specifically rings and weddings. it's nauseating. it forces both of them into an implied relationship that neither of them is comfortable in by leveraging noelle's desperate wish to reconnect with her childhood friend. it has exactly the horrible connotations you don't want it to have.

ralsei being presented as both a direct callback to asriel—both the undertale asriel we know, and y'know... kris' brother in deltarune—while also setting him and kris up in a clearly romantic context that kris does not seem to either share or be comfortable with, is not a coincidence. it's not an accident. "isn't that a little incestuous" that's the point! kris' agency being stripped away is one of deltarune's main thematic cores: the game is repeatedly setting up a pattern where that theme is reinforced by putting kris in upsetting, unwanted romantic relationships for OUR entertainment. nothing fits the bill better than pairing them with the nostalgia bait companion that literally looks like their brother.

This was the best issue so far, very introspective and evocative, the limited amount of pages felt shorter than ever; I had this feeling that this could have been the actual first issue of the story for its engaging and atmospheric quality. However this arc only concludes in Action Comics #1081, so there's a lot to happen yet

Earlier, I made a post stating that I would deactivate this account. I just wanted to let you know that I have done some further reflection and I've decided that that would be a deeply unfair reaction to the events of the past several days: to the people who have been hurt, to the people who interact with me, and to myself.

I have been nasty to others behind their backs, and while I appreciate the support I've been given I won't deflect responsibility for these actions. I've also not done nearly what I should have in terms of calling out the racial discrimination that has not only occurred behind the scenes but actively harmed people in the community.

I need to remain here to accept the justified criticisms of my behaviour and remain accountable for the part I have played in the toxic evolution of this community. Many people are likely disappointed in me, and I can assure you that no one is more disappointed in me than I myself. I have let so many people down, and you all deserve to see me reflect, grow, and change for the better.

I have said what needs to be said on this matter, and I think it would be deeply unfair of me to continue making a parade out of the misfortune that has befallen so many, including myself. I have shared my truth and can only accept the consequences that have come with that. If there is any legal or administrative action I can now take to deal with the ongoing harassment, I will be doing so in private to protect everyone's peace and resolve the matter once and for all. I will continue to listen to the voices of others and reflect on all the ways I can begin to atone and move forward.

I am going to do my best to remain where I am and become a person that deserves the kindness and support I have been given by so, so many. Whether or not you are able to follow me on this journey is something only you are entitled to decide, and I gladly accept the boundaries you feel you need to place for your own wellbeing.

I hope that one day, I can be someone worth believing in again. Thank you.

Action Log

Playing: Dipped into Plat-2 in SF6! I'm thinking about switching characters though. The point of playing Zangief was to try out a grappler, and deep down I may not have the grappler nature after all. I do like how silly he is though.

I finished Metroid Prime 3! Weird choice at the end to make you dump all your energy tanks. I think Metroid Prime was the best in the trilogy, and the one I'm most likely to replay. (Would be the third time actually, since I also played the remaster already.)

Still, the others are really close. I liked the switching between the light/shadow world in 2 and the Luminoth as a new alien species. Traveling with your ship between different landing zones in 3 felt a bit un-Metroid, but it had an unusual number of friendly NPCs which was an interesting change. Like, the Galactic Federation is just this lore thing in the other games, but here you get to meet them!

Listening: In the Egyptian History Podcast, I reached Tutankhamen, mostly known today for especially fancy grave goods. What I didn't know is that he had a club foot and a cleft palate.

He probably had some awkward conversations in the afterlife with his dad. His father named him Tutankhaten after Aten, the sun god which he worshiped exclusively. But then as pharaoh the kid changed his name to reference Amun, the god that his father tried to wipe out.

I listened to some MTG draft podcasts again and they mostly don't seem to like the new set, so I think I'll just keep sitting it out.

the thing with applying for federal seasonal jobs in national parks or forest service is they'll put out a general application for like 50 locations and ask you the check the ones you'd be interested in working at. Not all of them will allow you to select "any" and they generally want at least your first preferences. So basically the federal government has me sitting here with maps open on another tab playing lightning round smash-or-pass with "places I would be interested in working at for 6ish months of my life" checking answers as I go.

Star Trek: The Animated Series | 1x8 - The Magicks of Megas-Tu

I was a fool back in the day when I tried to limit early Star Trek to strict rules of logic, I won't make that mistake again, early Star Trek (personal) rule number #1: if it makes no sense I'm having fun!

the lack of topknots on the background fire nation guys is throwing me so much bc my working theory was that they were putting more effort into the fire nation stuff bc zuko's the most popular character. like so far katara and sokka's parkas look the most cosplay-ish of the costumes and there's consistant colorism and laziness throughout the water tribe casting meanwhile ozai and iroh and azula look great and we have designs for ozai and azula even though they appear later in the show (ozai's only in shadow in "the storm"). and they were clearly Going For Something with the costuming of the other guy in that shot. but this proves they're not even doing zuko justice. the lack of topknots on background fire nation generals means that there's no awareness of the zuko hair symbolism and you combine that with his itty bitty scar and it looks like all they've done to do justice to the fn characters is make some cool imperialist aesthetics
