Learning to Catch at the End of Everything - Chapter 47 (The Southern Settlement)

Before Sanidine and Gabbro can get off the pad, a stern-looking Hearthian approaches with a clipboard and a pencil, peering at them past a set of glasses on their upper eyes. They’re wearing the white-and-green uniform of the Southern government, and they look up at the ship for a moment before addressing the astronauts. “Well, this is a surprise. Gabbro, is this a new one? I thought yours was smaller.” They say, tapping the pencil’s eraser against the papers on the clipboard. Sanidine glances at Gabbro, raising a brow and grinning. It makes sense enough that the older astronaut has been to the settlement before, but the reception makes it sound like they’re on almost personal terms with the pad’s record-keeping staff. Gabbro elbows them gently to get them to face forward again, though it’s entirely possible Actino has already got their suspicions about the nature of their relationship. “Nah, you know I’m not that lucky. This one belongs to my buddy here. Sanidine, this is Actinolite, the traffic manager for the Southern Settlement. Actino, this is Sanidine, our newest astronaut.”

Just know that I tried very hard weasel in more references to my favorite mineral samples but no matter what I tried there was no reason to bring up wulfenite and rhodochrosite.

But I’m posting them anyway!

Rhodochrosite sample and something else I found at a local mine that’s definitely manganese based and may also be rhodochrosite

The left was labeled wulfenite/vanadinite from AZ and the left is wulfenite from Mexico

Raw corundum (ruby) under long wave UV and chalcedony geode under shortwave UV

The yellow sample on the top left is scapolite, the white and green samples on the bottom left are aragonite, and the large rock on the top right is opal.

And some more glowing stuff from a local mine, including willemite/calcite/franklinite and what I suspect is manganocalcite. (The stuff on the right is a mystery to me)

Got to draw what Susie looks like in the fantasy AU, info below!

- She use to work at the same company Joey use to manage but quit after getting into an incident. Her job was to look for magic in any crafted furniture and make sure they're taken away to be destroyed.

- Despite being in a highly skilled noble, Susie enjoyed her job.

- The incident involved Susie getting molten glass poured onto her face as she was investigating a cart of mirrors after detecting magic in one of them. A good part of her face did manage to get healed but it still scarred her badly and left her bedridden for a month.

- She knew it was Joey after catching a glimpse of him before the impact but couldn't say a thing due to being a pained wreck and bedridden. It also didn't help that by the time she fully recovered, Joey had been made king thus she knew it'd be impossible to say a thing.

- The green gem in her eye was from her mother, it's a green actinolite that's suppose to protect her and coated to help prevent any infections.

- After the incident and long recovery journey, Susie moved away to live in a forest away from the public.

- Susie met Audrey due to the Princess being sent to her to remove a curse off of the girl, the curse was so that Audrey stopped breathing for 5 minutes but Susie found it was suppose to be for longer.

- She found out who Audrey's father was mid removal and nearly let her die.
