in all sports and movements we do, we are shaped by what came before. when training with my current dance teacher, my old dance teacher still speaks his ques in my ear. when dancing, i still have the resilience and focus i learnt running around orienteering in the forest as a kid. on the pole, i train tricks like my figure skating trainer taught me - when you fall, just get back up and try again, until your body understands the movement. when i do acroyoga i point my toes like a dancer, and when i pole double i do it like an acroyogi. when i stretch for dance i breathe into it like my yoga teacher taught my anxious high school self. the body remembers, and all our movements are a product by what came before.
