alright, i finally got my shit together and managed to put together some coherent notes on the main gang's personalities for my roleswap au!

Note: In this AU, Melvinborg debuts in s1.

Melvin: Basically the same old tattletale. Annoying at times, but slowly grows out of it thanks to Melvinborg. Turns Captain Underpants into Krupp. Has autism. Melvin loves playing pranks on people. His favourite is making apple-pie beds on April Fools' Day!

Melvinborg: He's still a cyborg. He still travels back in time, but not on purpose here. He's much more calm and collected, sweet, but still quite cunty. Also, he's clumsy as fuck. Friends with his past self. Melvin has to be there so Melvinborg doesn’t accidentally erase himself from the timeline by tripping so hard. For example, he's horrified for his future self when he falls head first into a trash compactor, and he rescues him. Melvinborg is a bit dirty afterwards, but no feelings lost, right? Melvinborg is also a bit of a prankster and wears this outfit (credits to the owner).

Jerry: Basically the same cinnamon roll as canon, but a bit romantic. And more outgoing. Sometimes he puts on a mock French accent. Currently dating Mr. Ree (the janitor). Gay af

Ms. Yewh: Has ADHD. Is basically a sweetheart and the sweetest thing. A bit shy like Jerry canonically was, but becomes more postive. Her version of Judge JORTS is Princess Skirt (Sensibility Kindness Intelligence Righteous Tenacious). She's pansexual. Becomes infatuated with Lavatore Ree. Knows a bit of Spanish ;)

George and Harold: Much more of villains than they were in canon. Straight as a pencil. As students, they behaved just like their canon selves and were so good at pretending to be nice that even Ms. Yewh, Melvinborg and Melvin were unable to see through their act. As principals, they're cruel and powerful. They sound like their tetocu selves even while behaving in an utterly depraved and malicious manner. This trait completely disappears in the season 2 finale when their plans are foiled, and they suffer a Villainous Breakdown. NOT Melvins levels of abusive, but they do hate Krupp. It's unsurprising that Krupp hates them back, despite George and Harold not treating him as horribly as Melvin and Melvin-Borg canonically did.

What if Talwyn Apogee was in other R&C games

Talwyn is a loved character, yet Insomniac Games hasn't had her in many games though hopefully that comes to an end by having her in the Lombax Dimension game.

Still over the years I have thought about what games would be like if Talwyn had been in there and I wanted to talk about them.

In A Crack in Time Ratchet was with a NPC character for most of his gameplay whether it be with Captain Qwark or Azimuth, yet in Tools of Destruction he could have up to 3 NPCs at once and with Quest for Booty looking like Talwyn was going to join him only for her to leave in between the events of QFB and ACIT I felt like they could have added her into the game as another NPC. I could have seen Talwyn doing things like helping Ratchet in space combat and maybe had a moment where she doesn't take Dr. Nefarious as a serious threat but after a confrontation wiht him she realizes how dangerous he is but knows Ratchet could beat him. One big role I could see her having in ACIT is that she would noticed how obsessive Azimuth is about the Great Clock and thoughout the game Talwyn would warn Ratchet that Azimuth is becoming a bit unstable and that they shouldn't let him get near the Clock esepucally if it could ruin the timeline including how Ratchet not only met Clank but also their meeting, as the two would show more romantic chemistry between each other.

In All 4 One I could have seen her taking Dr. Nefarious' spot if IG had gone in a different direction. Sure we wouldn't have gotten to see Nefarious slowly show signs of wanting to change we could have gotten more of Talwyn. I could have seen All 4 One being about how recent events have made Ratchet, Clank, Qwark, and Talwyn angry or annoyed with each other for some reason, in Talwyn's case she is a little angry and disappointed about Ratchet and Clank (especially Ratchet) wanting to retire as even though she understands why, she says the universe needs heroes like them to help prevent bad things like people losing loved ones from happen and they seem to be giving up too easily. This could lead to some tension between her and Ratchet thoughout the game, but they make amends at the end before Ratchet even wants to go out of retirement.

Full Frontal Assault originally was going to have Talwyn as seen in some art in the R&C Art Book and she should have been. I could have seen her being the team's intel gather and map coordinator, as in she would be the one to figure out what Zurgo is doing in a certain area and come up with plans on how to stop him by telling Ratchet and co. where to go. I actually did a rewrite of FFA years ago that has her in it and you can read that HERE

Into the Nexus does have Talwyn but I bet if it was longer we could have gotten more of Talwyn, like she and Vendra got into a fight before Vendra was taken captive, thus explaining why Talwyn was so nervous about Ratchet and Clank taking her to jail. We also could have seen her deal with her feelings about losing Cronk and Zephyr more, but thanks to Ratchet and Clank (mostly Ratchet) we see her get over it, and of course we could have gotten more Ratchet X Talwyn moments as they were confirmed to be dating around the events of Full Frontal Assault. I also did a rewrite for this game which you can read HERE

And finally she definitely should have been in Rift Apart, as personally that game needed at least 2 more levels anyway. I could have seen her at the parade on a TOD themed platform where she would explain important things bout the Lombaxes and the Dimensionator which the game never went over. I also could have seen her helping Ratchet and Clank try and capture Nefarious before he got away. We also could have seen an AU version of her in Rivet's Dimension, who I picture being named Talon and hates Lombaxes because of personal reasons. I could have seen Ratchet having to work with her and feeling awkward about working with what is basically his girlfriend who hates him.

Do you agree in that Talwyn Apogee should have been in any of these games?

The Backcountry Permit Situation

Rereading Firewatch AU again and I want to make a clarifying comment about the backcountry permit thing, since it's a such an important part of the plot from Chapter 5 - 10. I haven't seen anyone be confused about this yet fortunately, but in my opinion the distinctions in the plot get pretty in the weeds here. So this is just me walking through it.

The Forest Service IS supposed to be in the wrong about the permit. That was an actual mistake that probably cost Mumbo dearly in a roundabout way. They are also wrong to have not disclosed this to Grian or Mumbo's family.

But here's where I say that it's not a conspiracy. Grian's thoughts about the mistaken permit is that it impacted Mumbo's search process. He thinks that the Forest Service wanted to cover up their mistake, and as a result botched the search to hide it. Admitting that they made a mistake with the permit would indicate they were at fault, and they don't want to be at fault because they're the government, so they continue to search the Cloud Lake Trail like nothing happened. Grian thinks that they knew Mumbo wasn't there and kept searching it anway to make themselves look good. He thinks they purposefully searched an area Mumbo wasn't in to hide their mistake. He thinks that they should have pursued other areas, but didn't want the liability of admitting Mumbo wasn't on the trail. He and Scar both think it was unprofessional to not, somehow, explore areas that weren't even connected to the original trail because SAR should have been "able to predict that."

The non-conspiratorial reality is much simpler. The Forest Service mistakenly issued Mumbo a permit for a trail that hadn't been reopened yet because the person who issued it simply didn't know. It's pre-computer, so it's not like they had an electronic system to flag this. So when Mumbo is reported missing, they have 1) Mumbo's permit for that trail, 2) Mumbo's car at that trailhead, and 3) a witness who said they saw Mumbo on/near the trail. There is NO reason to assume Mumbo didn't go there anyway. All evidence actually points to him being there. In fact, as stated in the files Grian later stole, the SAR incident commander had determined that the damage to the trail made it more likely for Mumbo to get lost. He would have entered altered terrain where the trail was obscured, and might have taken a wrong turn since everything was no longer marked or clear. I have seen real life cases where this happened to hikers who got lost!

It's stated that the SAR did do aerial searches of some other locations around Cloud Lake, but only of official trails off the same road as Cloud Lake. Since, you know, those are the ones that officially connect and are close to where his vehicle was found. Grian himself says he never made it to Cloud Lake because he was "asked to help in other areas." So we can already see that there was search acitivity that wasn't concetrated on the the rockslide area.

When Scar asks what the Forest Service thought about Mumbo's things being found on a completely different trail, and why he was permitted for a closed trail, he's told they were "operating on information inconsistent with reality and conducting an investigation of it." They both treat this as sinister-sounding but it's pretty much just a roundabout polished governmenty way of saying "we have no clue why he was at Pinnacles either and are looking into it" lol.

When Grian confronts the District Ranger, he's mad. The District Ranger admits fault to him about the permit, but explains again that they didn't see a reason why Mumbo wouldn't be in the Cloud Lake area. Grian accuses them of purposefully blocking off the spur trail Mumbo took—essentially saying that the Forest Service knew Mumbo took that path, and quietly blocked it off without mentioning it. The District Ranger replies that the trail crews were just doing their jobs. That's the truth. Since the Cloud Lake Trail needed repairs to reopen, a trail crew worked heavily on it. Part of their job is streamlining the trail.

Unfortunately, most of the critical errors in Mumbo's case were always his own. He shouldn't have taken the unmarked trail, he should've turned around once he realized the Cloud Lake Trail was messed up. I don't mean it in a victim-blamey "he deserved his outcome due to stupidity" way. I simply mean it in the sense that we're all human and unfortunately some silly mistakes or moments of poor decision-making are final.

So basically:

Forest Service issuing the mistaken permit and not admitting it: actual mistake, they were wrong

Forest Service purposefully botching the search and focusing on an area they knew Mumbo wasn't in, to decrease their own liability: this didn't happen, Grian is wrong

Mumbo's family could probably sue them for wrongful death based on the permit thing, though. I don't know how successful it would be but in my purely amateur opinion I think there's a reasonable case to be made that Mumbo never would've been in the position to make his mistakes if he'd never stepped foot on the trail. He might've gone elsewhere and had an entirely normal trip. If only :(

It all starts with the situation with Cash and Javi. In my previous post, I said Cash was going to be more of a Scrooge McDuck character in tetocu23.

As far as the Jack Yacht is concerned, the Salamanger episode mostly plays the same as the original… except for one particularly heavy development. Because (according to the writers of the AU) Krupp and Captain are going to lean a little closer to their movie selves in this theoretical reboot, I'll definitely remove the part with Krupp pulling a "let's push him overboard lmfao" on poor Cash. He still steals Javi, though in this version, it's just to screw with Cash's head than straight up abuse, and that happens in a separate episode (since this reboot, according to the writers, has 20something eps per season, so Javi gets fleshed out a bit more before he inevitably gets Kruppnapped).

Speaking of our principal, Cash and Krupp's character dynamic wouldn't have one be completely dominant over the other. It would be based on Scrooge and Glomgold's interactions in dt17... but less murder-y and stuff lol

Javi is still a background character, but he does… talk and stuff. He's calm and collected, sweet, but he also has a tendency to becoming incredibly depressed when anything upsetting happens, or flying off the handle and losing his temper the more his buttons get pushed.

Also, Javi is gay for Cash. Consider Javi and Cash the Scrooge and Launchpad of the AU… if Scrooge and Launchpad were gay af

Also, Cash has a niece! This reboot does what dt17 did - include reinterpretations of all the DT characters we know and love (or love to hate, depending on what character), along with tetocu23 original ones.

This is Alyssa Hawkins, Cash Networth's niece!

Let's say that Alyssa is a former child actor who used to be a teen actress. Very famous, to. But, ahem, backlash from toxic fans has waned her desire to be an actress, so nowadays she's just a bit of a theatre kid.

Being the niece of the billionaire owner of Camp Uppercrust means Alyssa is rich, too. She's a bit of a chaotic gremlin that likes to banter with her uncle. She also loves rambling about Yu Gi Oh (the original manga series, mind you) to him. Alyssa, except for Krupp and the Melvins, is kind to her friends and is very forgiving, even forgiving Meaner for what he did to her friends in the Borelock episode. Hates Krupp with every fiber of her being, despite Krupp not treating Cash as horribly as he did in tetocu.

If TETOCU23!Hazel is a detective version of dt17!Webby Vanderquack then this girl is an unholy mashup of 87 Webby and B.O.Y.D.

Is in denial about her bisexuality.

Is friends with Hazel. And frenemies with Cara.

Their friendship kinda works, because Alyssa needs an outlet for her energy, Cara needs a new slave and Hazel needs a good right-hand man (or right-hand girl).

A rearranging of one of the final scenes in ACiT, suited to fit my own personal future needs. Unfinished!! But its all i got done tonight :)! Like the top of the comic says, planning to write out a short little au that 10 year old me /really/ wanted.

Ive had this game since? Forever? One of my first games (my /first/ first being R&C:ToD) & its the first game i finished. I was 4-7! When i first played! And when i got a little older & knew how the game ended I always ended up…pitifully wandering around Torren IV wondering if there was a way to change the ending of the game. Like if I maybe found something out about alister, Ratchet could do something different & he wouldnt have to die, Clank wouldnt have to witness this, & Alister wouldnt have had to die. 10 yr old me thought she could save these characters from pain like it was Undertale or smth because she did not! Know! How games worked!!! She was always crushed when she couldnt find anything.

So here I am, half a decade later, planning smth to help her out. And maybe anyone else whod like a read :)

(This is also an excuse for me to draw dumb shitty drawings of alister with the usual R&C crew as though he doesnt die lmao!!! And if someone asks why or whats up i can point them at this!!!)
