Modern adaptation of Sherlock Holmes but it's the original ACD Holmes and Watson just. Picked up from 1895 or whatever and. Thrown into 2024. Sherlock Holmes in the 21st century.

I'm sorry, The Naval Treaty and The Second Stain are meant to take place DURING THE SAME MONTH???? They had 2 separate cases where they needed to find an ultra important international document IN THE SPAN OF ONE MONTH????
Oh my god I just know they laughed soooo hard and judged those government guys soooooo bad

part of my A Study in Scarlet summary:
Watson realizes that while he's been studying Holmes, H knew a ton about him already. W weirdly seems unbothered by this. W tries to compliment H by comparing him to his blorbos, but H insults his blorbos. H then complains about not being famous (he just wants an interesting case, but he comes off as conceited.)
W: this dude Sucks. but i'm not going to show it. i wasn't even willing to ask what the man his job was because i'm too polite. the only reason i stumbled upon it was because i accidentally insulted his work to his face because i couldn't keep my emotions in check. have to be polite again. time to change the subject. H: i counter your attempt to change the subject by demonstrating the skills i'm not-at-all defensive about what do u mean. Uno Reverse.

Nothing but love and respect to the recent batch of grumpy, self assured Dr Watsons who rolls their eyes at Holmes, but we are due for a truly down bad hype-man/wife-guy Watson

I genuinely hope I never learn about stuff like sherlock holmes & oscar wilde in english class cuz like there’s absolutely no way I would be even somewhat normal about it and I really don’t need an entire class knowing how much of a fucking nerd I am lmao

“A musical version of A Study In Scarlet would be neat, but how would you handle the Mormon section?”
Simple, it’s ‘Sherlock Holmes the Musical’ up until Jefferson Hope comes on the scene and then it turns into The Book of Mormon.

Wait "The Strand" backed an official Sherlock Holmes fan fic contest?
Sort of! George Newnes (founder of the strand) also ran a paper called Tit-Bits which was not a full magazine but instead ran short single-column light reading, and at some point during the hiatus they ran a contest to publish a short fan-written holmes story. allegedly.
Tumblr media
(from the 'Cambridge Companion to Sherlock Holmes' introduction)
theres only a few issues of tit-bits accessible online at all as far as i can find and those are through newspapers.com (payed subscription) so i havent had a chance to dig into it any further than the one or two little mentions it got in the cambridge holmes companion 😔 but im obsessed with it and if i ever find out more i will absolutely make a little post abt it

being a sherlock holmes canon fan sucks. what the fuck is "i have never loved, watson, but if i did and if the woman i loved met such a fate, i might act even as [that story's murderer] had done" and "by the lord, it is as well for you. if you had killed watson, you would not have got out of this room alive."

I read the hound of the baskervilles for the first time recently and it was such a delight. I loved seeing Watson in the spotlight and trying to solve the case in his own way. You are doing great <3
But I can't help but wonder if it was just me who felt the attempt to apprehend the culprit was a little... underwhelming? Unless that was the point. Like the story builds up this mysterious, potentially supernatural entity that strikes fear only for it to be revealed that it's real and human
But on the other hand Holmes talks about the culprit possessing great wit and being of high caliber. I would expect that a confrontation wouldn't go so smoothly, that the culprit would provide some kind of pushback. Instead it ends with them... running away and... presumably dying in a moor... If the culprit really is incredibly crafty would they just run into a foggy moor if they weren't confident and sure they could get through?
In the end we get a deus ex moor and poor Henry Baskerville gets the fright of his life
