The Loyal Pin - Episode 2
I have no idea what I am doing with this space each week. Am I thinking thoughts? Am I recapping the episode? Am I getting anxiety that I'll have to be more selective with the images I use since I'm only allowed thirty yet every second of this show is color-coded? Am I lusting after Pin and my girl Prik? All of the above?! Once again, I have no idea, so let me just get this post started at the beginning with Pin being the saddest Pink Person and cutting all the mangoes within 50 miles because her girlfriend is leaving.
The Blue Beauty Anin sends her loyal and trusty sidekick Prik to keep her girlfriend company while she is busy preparing for her move.
Because she knows no mangoes are safe and apparently papayas too! And while we get a flashback, we see that Pin is wearing blue ribbons in her hair because even if she can't put words to it, she's been in love with her Blue Beauty for a long time.
Probably before she even knew the word "love"
So while Anin is busy making arrangements with her color-coded brother,
Pin is haunting the halls already grieving her loss
Refusing to acknowledge that Anin is leaving (same girl, same)
Losing her appetite (and will to live), which her color-coded mother picks up on
And crushing Prik's spirit with the realization that Anin will be abroad for SEVEN DAMN YEARS!
Basically, Pin is in her sad girl era as she holds Anin's handkerchief and cries into her pillow.
But thankfully Prik acts like a ghost and snitches to her Blue Beauty Boss that their Pink Person is turning into Britney Spear's 2000 classic "Lucky" since "she cry, cry, cries in her lonely heart, thinking 'if there's nothing missing in my life then why do these tears come at night?'"
So Anin, in true Blue Beauty, fashion decides to make her girl happy by making food with her and eating it . . . alone since Pin still isn't eating.
And takes up every single waking moment of Pin's time.
They even celebrate Loy Krathong together, but the mood turns sad once Pin finally vocalizes that Anin is leaving FOR SEVEN DAMN YEARS!
So it's time for Anin to leave, and she says goodbye to her color-coded girlfriend and her color-coded aunt.
Oh, and her color-coded brothers!
But she immediately gets to writing her girl because if a letter is late, according to Prik, Pin is painting her nails black and listening to My Chemical Romance's "Ghost of You" on repeat until the letter arrives. Same girl, same.
However, Pin can read between the lines, and even though Anin is saying she is happy and writing about other friends (Anin knows other women?! Not in this sapphic love story she don't!),
Pin knows Anin is not happy and can see the teardrops on the letter as clear as day because they are the same album, but different songs. Alexa, play My Chemical Romance's "I'm Not Okay"!
Fuck it! Just play all of Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge! I'M in my emo feels!
But their SEVEN DAMN YEAR separation is coming to in end which we can tell because their hairstyles have changed, and our Blue Beauty has a plan up her sleeve!
Sidenote: The snow globe on her desk has one character in green and blue and the other is in red and pink. It's them!
But back to the plan! Now that Anin is graduating, she triple-checks with her color-coded family that the highly esteemed prince who just happens to be her dad is going to keep his promise of giving her anything she wants.
Because this bad (blue) bitch is getting the custom-made house she promised her girl! Sis secured the bag!
And Pin is proud as hell of her smarty-pants skirt (since the clothing is historical accurate?).
But as proud as she is of her, in the middle of a room filled with pink, blue, and purple (!!!!) flowers, she looks shocked to see her Blue Beauty right in front of her when the episode ends.
Anin is just full of surprises like appearing out of nowhere and coming back queerer than when she left. Good for her!
Bonus: Anin's mom is a Yellow/Orange Oddity, and I think as the girls continue to age, they will inherit more of their moms' colors into their wardrobes because of generational trauma, gender norms, and whatnot until they break against tradition and be gay do crime each other.
But either way, me and my huge emo album collection will be here doing whatever this is all season!
#the loyal pin#I'm obsessed with this show#color coded girls in love#the colors mean things#SUCH GOOD COLOR-CODING!#episode two#this is everything I needed and more#thank you Idol Factory

Okay now it's time for an extensive breakdown of Sam's incredibly manipulative pleading at the end of 4.21 that I was making fun of yesterday.
My whole life, you take the wheel, you call the shots, and I trust you because you are my brother. Now I'm asking you, for once, trust me.
There are many lies packed into these two sentences and I want to go through them one by one.
Lie 1: Sam always does what Dean wants to do.
Sam presents his whole life as a life where he has always done what Dean wanted. Sam suggests he has never deviated from Dean's wishes.
However, on many occasions when Sam and Dean have arrived at an impasse, Sam simply went his own way, which directly contradicts his claim that he always takes Dean's lead.
1.11: Dean wants to go on a case John directed them toward, and Sam wants to go to Sacremento to search for John (who doesn't want to be found) with nothing but an area code. He has Dean pull the car over, then gets out and leaves. Sam and Dean later talk on the phone and apologize to each other, but with the understanding they'll both go their own way. Sam gets worried when Dean doesn't respond to his calls (because he's been kidnapped) and abandons his plan to take a bus to California of his own accord.
1.12: Sam tricks Dean into seeing a faith healer by saying they're going to see "A specialist".
1.20: Sam starts a screaming match with John over him telling them to take the next exit on the highway, while Dean complains about them both being insufferable and always getting into petty fights.
2.10: Dean begs that they just lay low for a while and take a break and think (after he reveals John's last words). Sam runs off.
3.05: Dean shoots down Sam's plan to threaten a crossroad's demon (with The Colt) into breaking Dean's contract. Sam sneaks out at night to summon a crossroad's demon anyway and threaten her, and then kills her when she doesn't do what he wants.
3.09: Sam stops Dean from killing Ruby.
3.10: Sam steals a hair off Dean's head so he can go into Dean's dreams with him and insists he is going when Dean objects that he doesn't want Sam in his mind.
3.11: Sam kills Dean at one point on accident when Dean tries to end his reign of terror with the owner of The Mystery Spot.
3.15: Sam wants to stay in town and find Doc Benton so he can use his alchemy to make Dean and himself immortal. Dean wants to go and find Bela, who has The Colt. They part ways, with Sam staying and Dean going to search for Bela alone.
3.16: Right after Dean explicitly states that he does not want Ruby to be summoned in a last ditch play to save his life, Sam summons her behind Dean's back.
4.01: Sam wants to kill the demons that threatened Dean in the diner, and Dean doesn't. Sam sneaks off at night to go back to the diner to kill them on his own, but the angels have beaten him to it.
4.07: After implying that Sam using his powers against Samhain is a joint decision and he wants Dean's feedback, when Dean objects, Sam runs off to face Samhain alone anyway, leaving Dean with several still-trapped teenagers he can't abandon to keep him from following to help.
4.09 (4.01-4.04; 4.12-4.22): We learn that while Dean was dead, Sam directly went against what Sam in 4.04 describes as "Practically [Dean's] dying wish" (4.04) by working with Ruby to hone his powers to take revenge on Lilith. He continues to work with her after Dean is brought back to life until 4.04, then picks the habit back up at the end of 4.12. In 4.14, he says that he is intentionally going behind Dean's back because Dean is too weak to be of use and is holding him back.
4.15: Dean says he can't stop Sam from having secrets, but asks Sam to please not treat him like an idiot (i.e., keep telling lies), when it's obvious that Sam is lying to him about what happened with Alastair in the graveyard. Sam very much continues to lie instead of just insisting upon his privacy.
4.18: Sam and Dean fight about Sam's lies and then because Sam wants to stay in town and face Lilith, while Dean wants to leave to escape Chuck's writing. Sam refuses to budge and the brothers separate until the end of the episode.
4.19: Sam wants to turn Adam into a hunter and Dean hates the idea. Sam first starts teaching Adam about hunting behind Dean's back, then in front of him while Dean watches on, sickened.
In the third heading, I note incidents where Sam and Dean had a dispute and Dean conceded to Sam's views.
Lie 2: Sam follows Dean's lead because Dean is his brother and for no other reason. It's blind faith.
Sam wants wants Dean to set aside his moral principles and his skepticism and place blind faith in Sam for no other reason than that Sam is his brother, and he frames this request as a show of mutual solidarity. He's placed blind faith in Dean, so why can't Dean do the same for him?
First, there's manipulation here in that this alleged blind faith entitles Sam to also receive blind faith in return from someone unwilling to offer it, which is nonsense. Just because you choose to (allegedly) abandon your principles and beliefs for blind faith in another person does not mean the other person is obligated to follow your lead, treating their own moral principles in the same blasé manner you do.
Second, while absolutely—there have been points up to 4.21 where Sam did not do things because Dean didn't want to do them, or where Sam did things he didn't really want to do because Dean wanted to do them... it's very shady to suggest he only ever concedes purely because Dean is his brother and he has blind faith in him.
Thinking up incidents where Sam concedes to Dean's wishes on something:
1.02: Sam objects to Dean wanting to protect Haley and her brother because they'll be dead weight in the woods, while Dean wants to protect them.
1.03: Dean insists on going on the case instead of sitting around angst-ing about John and how the leads on him have dried up, and Sam concedes.
1.10: Sam wants to call the FBI on John to find him while Dean wants to follow the coordinates John just sent them to see if he's there. Sam ends up going along with Dean then spends the whole episode taking his anger about John's absence out on Dean who had no control over it.
1.21: Sam does not rush into a burning building and die trying to reach Azazel because Dean holds him back.
1.22: 1) Sam wants to sit in a motel waiting for an unknown number of demons to arrive with three bullets left in The Colt and Dean insists they go to Bobby's to learn about demons instead. 2) Dean insists on rescuing John over revenge 3) Dean brings The Colt to save John behind Sam's back, and then ends up using a bullet to save Sam's life.
2.04: Dean thinks he's found a case (he has) and Sam thinks he's just making things up. Sam agrees to go along with it even though he's skeptical until the fact that it is a genuine case is proved to him.
2.12: Sam doesn't like Dean trying to work with Ronald to stop the shifter but they don't really have a choice.
2.19: Sam doesn't want to help people in prison and Dean does, and Sam concedes and goes with the crazy plan to get arrested and go to prison to stop the haunting.
3.01: Sam wants to take Dean to another faith healer to try and get him out of his deal and Dean refuses to go.
3.12: Sam wants to sacrifice Nancy and Dean argues against this and offers an alternative plan where no one gets sacrificed, which Sam ends up going with.
3.13: Sam agrees to go on "Their Grand Canyon" hunt as one of Dean's dying wishes and gets mad when it goes sour because of The Ghostfacers.
3.15: Sam wants to turn them into Frankenstein's monsters to save Dean from his deal and Dean says he'd rather die.
3.16: This one is tricky, because Sam initially goes behind Dean's back by summoning Ruby to save Dean specifically against Dean's dying wishes, but then after he gets caught and Dean gets Ruby's knife, Sam concedes to using Dean's plan where they try to sneak up on Lilith and kill her with Ruby's knife. Dean's reasoning is that he wants to end the cycle of them saving each other with demon deals that only turn sour.
I think the pattern shows that contrary to fanon, Sam is not some poor helpless victorian maiden being swept along by the tides of the immutable sea. In most cases, it's that he realizes he thinks Dean is right about something at the end of the day, even if he doesn't like it. Not because Dean is his brother, but because Dean won him over with a well-reasoned argument, Sam realized he was putting his desires over right and wrong, or Sam didn't (at that time) want to disrespect Dean's wishes concerning Dean's own body and life.
NOTE: You might notice season 4 is "missing". This is because when I look at all of the season 4 episodes, the closest thing I can remember related to Sam just agreeing to do whatever Dean wants is him deciding to stop using his powers in 4.04, except that Sam makes it very clear at the end of the episode that he's quitting by his own choice and Dean's wishes have absolutely nothing to do with it.
Lie 3: Dean never does what Sam wants to do, and he never trusts him.
Not only does the supposition that Dean has always taken the lead Sam's "whole life" imply that Dean never concedes to Sam's view, but also when Sam requests Dean's trust "for once"—as if, not one single time in his entire life, has Dean ever taken Sam's lead or put trust in him. My mama used to say "exaggerators are just lie makers in disguise", and this is some wild lie-making in disguise.
1.06: They go back hundreds of miles to check in on Sam's friend who Sam believes has been framed for murder, even though Dean thinks it's kind of wild for Sam to believe his friend didn't do something the police have clear evidence he did.
1.09: Dean goes with Sam to Lawrence after Sam has a vision about someone dying in their old house. The idea of going back to Lawrence is extremely upsetting to Dean, but he realizes Sam is right and they have to investigate.
1.12: 1) Sam tricks Dean into seeing a faith healer which upsets Dean, but even so, Dean does what Sam wants, goes into the tent, sits where Sam wants him to sit, and goes up on stage to be healed at Sam's request. 2) Sam says they cannot kill whoever is controlling the reaper because they're human. Dean respects Sam's moral principles by doing what he wants to do.
1.14: 1) They go on this case because Sam has a vision and Dean puts his trust in Sam's vision. 2) Sam insists they can't kill Max because he's human, and Dean respects Sam's moral principles by doing what he wants to do.
2.04: Dean goes with Sam to Mary's grave even though he doesn't want to be in Lawrence or to be anywhere near Mary's grave.
2.05: Sam orders Dean to stay away from Ansem because he's vulnerable and Dean easily agrees, going a long distance away to observe from afar with a rifle.
2.09: 1) Sam has a vision that Dean is going to kill someone. Dean is skeptical, but agrees to go along with Sam anyway. 2) Dean doesn't kill the dude infected with croatoan virus partly because of Sam's pleading that it would be wrong, and Dean finding he agrees. Sam is right.
2.04, 2.09, and 2.10: Dean trusts Sam with insights into his emotional state/why he wants to die after Sam asks him to open up about how he's feeling.
2.12: Dean thinks they should have told Ronald about the shapeshifters, but concedes to Sam's perspective.
2.22: Dean begs Sam to rest for a while instead of immediately getting back on the trail after Azazel, not wanting to lose him again, but Sam insists they go, and Dean concedes.
3.07: Dean wants to go face Gordon alone. Sam breaks down in tears and begs Dean to just be his brother again and stop doing reckless things. Dean instantly softens and agrees to lay low.
3.10: Dean doesn't really want Sam in his head invading his privacy but doesn't stop Sam from joining him in his dreams.
3.11: Dean lives over 100 Tuesdays of Sam bossing him around in various ways, including repeatedly insisting they can't leave the motel and he is not allowed to eat breakfast or go anywhere by himself. Dean puts his trust in Sam even though each time he has no clue what's going on and often has little to no context.
4.04: Sam insists they tell Jack Montgomery that he's going through a metamorphosis so that he can try and stop himself from eating people, and Dean agrees.
4.06: Sam spends the whole episode telling Dean what to do and telling him he needs to go places he's scared to go.
4.09: When Alastair breaks into the church, Ruby tells Sam he needs to use his powers to crush Alastair. Dean starts to protest, but concedes after Ruby says they'll all die otherwise.
4.10 #1: Sam enacts a plan that puts Dean and Ruby at extreme risk (Dean with the angels who have threatened to throw him back in hell, Ruby with Alastair). Both put their trust in Sam and his plan.
4.10 and 4.11: Dean opens up to Sam about his trauma from Hell.
4.19: Though he argues with Sam vehemently multiple times about what he's doing, Dean never actually stops Sam from teaching Adam to be a hunter.
Dean trusts Sam multiple times, and follows his lead on several occasions (even a few times with extreme moral reservations, such as 4.09 and 4.19).
I've also pointed out before that Sam picks most of their season 1 and season 2 cases, contrary to the popular fanon claim that Dean is always dragging Sam everywhere to hunt when he doesn't want to. In season 3, Sam leads them to hunts in 4 different episodes (3.04, 3.05, 3.11, 3.15). Dean finds two (3.02, 3.13). Who picked the rest of their season 3 hunts is either not stated, starts with them being contacted by a friend which leads them to investigate (3.01, 3.03, 3.10, 3.14), or is just them getting into a situation against their will (3.12). 5 cases are Sam's idea in season 4, and two are Dean's. The remainder are unknown, mytharc episodes, or kidnappings.
Lie 4: Sam is just asking to be seen as an equal, and Lie 5: Sam trusts Dean.
Sam's most overarching manipulation here is this idea that he just wants equality. He's showed consistent trust and blind faith in Dean and he deserves the same. He's been Dean's loyal follower going wherever Dean wants him to go, and he wants to be treated as an equal now who receives trust equal to the trust he alleges he places in Dean. However, he plainly shows the entire season that he does not want equality. He wants Dean to be beneath him. We see this just a little before this bit of the conversation, when Sam says Dean can't do anything—that he isn't strong enough and only Sam can do this. Sam shows almost the entire season that he doesn't respect Dean as an equal by lying to him over and over about what he's up to, going behind his back, refusing to believe that Dean can stop the apocalypse as the angels have said. He makes it clear in 4.14 that he is keeping his actions a secret because Dean is too weak and pathetic to be of use and is holding him back. We confirm this following episodes (4.16, 4.17, 4.18, 4.21) where Sam explicitly says Dean cannot do what needs to be done and Sam has to take over. Dean is not capable. Sam has no faith or trust in Dean at all.

Curiously for me it was obvious that in any of these au Lucifer had to be Hades, logic has all the subtlety of an anvil.
Ruler of a group of dead souls who is normally seen as evil and who can actually be argued to have gotten the short end of the stick compared to his brothers? ✔️✔️✔️
Hades!Lucifer with all the ways to play with the trope practically writes itself.
Now, Persephone! Alastor took me a little longer to watch and get over my critical barrier.
There is an implication that there are gods more associated with the city (Hera, Apollo...) and gods more associated with the wild (Dionysus, Artemis...) then I had an instinctive reaction to say nope, because Alastor as a radio host and Rosie as the leader of the cannibals not exactly a 1:1 resemblance, both are too associated with things in the city for me to see it (if you ask me what kind of goddess is the 1:1 equivalent of Rosie I would say it's Hera or Hestia actually)
But the thing is that Alastor already moves between both sides because Alastor in some ways is a walking contradiction (as p Persephone! Goddess of spring, Life, and lady of the Underworld, Death)and there is something in the idea of seeing a goddess of spring and a goddess of the hunt cannibalistic and quite bloodthirsty which is like mmmm.... Why do I suddenly need more of this?
But I'm really curious who Demeter would be in this scenario. It doesn't even have to be a motherly role, but who is the person who realizes that Alastor is missing without knowing what happened and wants to get him back? Because we have two options: whoever has Alastor's soul... And Charlie, Alastor was helping her with a project and now he's gone!
I can understand people's reservations about Alastor being Persephone, the goddess of spring. They're not exactly the most similar characters. But that's what I love about him being Persephone - it's so far removed from who you'd think he'd be that it's immediately intriguing to imagine how you would merge the two together.
Alastor is the god of spring, but he is still Alastor. He still hunts and kills, it's just usually hunters or deplorable mortals who wander into his territory (which is still accurate to Alastor, because according to Viziepop, Alastor in the show has his own moral code, and Viv compared him to Dexter Morgan, who was a serial killer notorious for murdering other murderers and serial killers). He's still whimsy and all about entertainment, he's just off on his own most of the time (with his equally crazy tree nymph Niffty, and the god he swindled into a deal, Husk). He's still clever and a smooth-talker, he can talk circles around nearly any other deity, he's just going to do it with flowers in his hair. He's still dangerous, he just likes planting now too.
The more I think about Artemis, the more I see her as Rosie. Artemis had her exclusively female hunters, she protected them, they were loyal to her, and even if Rosie wasn't as physically aggressive towards anyone in the show, she's still skilled in hunting and killing (obviously, she IS a cannibal), and I can totally see her hunters being the cannibals from the show as well. Her hunters don't have to be a small group in this AU, it's bigger and more like a community.
Obviously, I'm not keeping this AU 100% accurate to the Greek myths. I've found that when writing AU's it's better to change the trope to fit the character, instead of changing the character to fit the trope.
As for Hestia, well, honestly, I see Em being her more than Rosie (or maybe Carmilla could be Hestia O.O with how dedicated she is to her family and home). I mean, the goddess of the Hearth, home, family - I can see where Rosie would fit in, but with how caring, sweet, and loving Em is while still having a strong back-bone for standing up for injustice and how people are treated, she fits the role of Hestia really well (honestly, I'm also really liking the idea of Carmilla being Hestia).
I'm still not sure who I'm going to make Demeter, as Alastor didn't really have a protective, maternal figure looking out for him in the show. Some might argue that Rosie could fit that bill, but I've always seen her as ride or die friends with Alastor, and not so much a motherly figure.
So, I'm thinking of just making Demeter Alastor's mom. We don't see her in the show, nor do we know anything about her, but she's the closest character I can think of who can fit, well, his mother LOL.
I am tweaking the myth a bit so that Alastor ends up taking on more of her duties as goddess of the harvest (she was also the goddess of agriculture, fertility, and sacred law - with the last one, I think Alastor gets a lot of his moral principles from that, in the sense that he doesn't tolerate mortals (or immortals) damaging sacred ground, fields, nature, animals etc... which is another reason why he hunts the people who transgress through his fields and forests).
And the reason Alastor takes on more of Demeter's/his moms responsibilities is because, previously, he'd been attacked (see all the scars in his design) and it took a long time and a lot of power from his mom as she nursed him back to health. It took a lot out of her, so once he was healed, she stepped down to build her strength back up, and he took on more duties with the harvest, agriculture, and sacred law in her stead.
As for Charlie, well 😈I already have a character in mind for her.
#20 points to whoever can guess which Greek deity I'm assigning Charlie#but yeah#im tweaking the myths a lot#just having fun with them#it's been a little bit of a struggle to assign greek gods/goddesses to certain characters because I have a system in place for#figuring out who is who#but its going well I think#Deviled Flowers AU#peresphone!Alastor#hazbin hotel#hazbin alastor#hazbin hotel alastor#the radio demon#hazbin hotel rosie#hazbin rosie#hazbin

Are you the same elegantwoes on asoiaf reddit?
Because if so, I saw your recent response to that user CL. I have been apart of that subreddit for years and MY GOD they have the weirdest takes on Sansa! It gets even weirder because they present it so coolly and detailed and yet if a person were to actually think about it, they would see this person's takes are straight up unhinged. This is not a matter of opinion. It is unhinged when you seriously believe that someone who pulls the shit Tyrion does and is still a good person????
It is even more DISGUSTING that they call Sansa's molester (because yes, Tyrion did assualt her) a hero and in contrast Sansa's heroism is up for debate??? Fuck right off. Like even if you don't consider her a hero, you do not get to call her molestor/potential rapist, the man who married her who would know full her brother would have to DIE for him to get WF etc, a hero!
I think what upsets me even more is that I know this poster is a HUGE Arya fan and because of that I KNOW they would not be overlooking Tyrion's behaviour if he acted the same way to Arya - ie forcing her to undress while she's terrified and touching her breasts. I can guarantee you they would not be OK with Arya being forced to have Tyrion's children, is what both Tywin and Tyrion wanted - too bad Sansa interfered with those plans LOL.
Finally I think it's really telling that they haven't responded to any of the points you made. Because they can't.
Yes I go by the same username on Reddit. I know which comment you’re specifically talking about. When I read it for the first time I needed time to recollect my thoughts. I was that speechless. Imagine calling Tyrion Lannister, after everything he has done, a hero. He is by far the darkest grey among all POV characters. GRRM has called him a villain. What is there to argue against that. Meanwhile Sansa is both explicitly and implicitly called a hero. GRRM said the Starks are heroes - which includes her. He agreed with the statement that Brienne is basically a Sansa with a sword and according to him Brienne is the most morally pure POV character. Sansa who is GRRM’s fairy tale heroine. Sansa who is patron saint coded. That Sansa Stark isn’t a hero? Anyone who says such thing is not arguing in good faith.

I just don’t think they can be as badass as Lian and Mari. They come from two badass super families and Milagro is just one of the few thousand GL and irey can run super fast
Right, so I again am assuming you’re coming from a good place. So I’m going to explain from my perspective why I think they’re badasses.
In terms of Comic Milagro, you’re right, we don’t know much about her. Hell, she’s not even a lantern as far as I’m aware. However. In my cannon, she became a lantern at 10 years old. She was forced into this life, but that gives her a clarity to point out the bullshit Legacy heroes don’t notice.
Like someone calling her friend a slur in front of a group of adults that have done nothing to protect said friend. She’ll take the ‘disciplinary action’ for breaking the asshole’s nose.
She might be one of many GL, but her ring is not the only thing she does as a hero. She learned how to fix essentially all the iconic vehicles driven by various league members and assisted in the redesign of multiple hero uniforms. More than that, and yes this is very important, she is a latina girl. Yes, we have Jessica Cruz, but think of how little kids look up to teenagers. She comes from a normal family. But she’s a hero. She. Is. A. Hero. And she doesn’t look like me, I’m a white girl, I can find heroes that look me, but not everyone has that luxury. Think about the shot in the Blue Beetle Trailer of the little boy seeing Jaime. It. Matters.
I, personally, designed her character to break the stereotype of how “Badass Women” should look. Not sure what I mean? Look at any action movie, superhero show/movie, etc and tell me how the Heroines are dressed. How many are in a tank top/plain shirt, leather jacket, jeans, and some kind of boot (combat or low heeled)? How many have that Pretty Woman moment of “look how nice I clean up which everyone will comment on”? Her femininity, her love of fashion and knitting and telenovelas and all the other feminine things are things I never see “Badass women do.”
Femininity and Badassery are not part of a dichotomy.
Miss Iris Anne West II’s family is full of scientists and reporters. Frankly more badass than either the Bats or the Arrows because they don’t have a huge fortune to fall back on. Her Great Uncle was hit by lightning. Her father gave himself powers at 12 years old (give or take) by recreating the experiment of said Great Uncle. Her family has created and destroyed and changed so many timelines. Their rogues have one of the strictest codes of honor compared to every other Villian. In the old Justice League Cartoon, Wally didn’t even have to fight his bad guy! Just told him to go to jail after having a conversation about the guy being off his meds and why it’s important he take them.
And circling back—Her family being full of reporters and scientists gives her both highly inquisitive mind and the skills to answer her questions. Knowing the difference between The Truth and The Story was drilled into her from birth. The Story is what everyone says happened in order to make the facts fit nice and neat. The Truth is what actually happened, regardless of it being “neat”. Do you know how hard it can be to hold thag belief when the rest of the world demands conformity?
Irey can run super fast” you’re right. That is the basis of her powers, but not the entirety of them. According to her Prime Earth and New Earth Wiki pages, the full breath of her powers include:
Speed Force Conduit
Accelerated Healing, including Toxic Immunities
Enhanced Senses
Phasing
Speedforce Aura
Superhuman Duribility
Superhuman Stamina
Superhuman Reflexes
Superhuman Agility
Vortex Creations
Dimension Travel
Electrokensis
Molecular Acceleration
Telekekisis, which she often uses to pull her brother towards her.
In Prime Earth, the current run of the character, she is also noted to become the most power speedster in the world.
Again, I assume you ask this in good faith, so I will ask you a good faith question as well—Why did you only ask me about the Omega girls? By your own logic, Damian and Jon are more badass than Colin and Jai, but you only asked me about the girls.

If you're still taking asks for the WIP game:
Unbroken (Andor/Rebels), Rough Awakening (TBB), and A reason to fight (Kalluzeb) please! :D
For you, @takadasaiko of course, my darling!
From UNBROKEN (Chapter 2, I think) [This is what happens when you write no linear bits and pieces instead of the whole chapter in order 🫣]
Kallus hesitates to key the code that unlocks the cell doors, prison-wide.
"What are you waiting for?" Cassian asks.
"Are you sure about this?" Kallus shoots back, over his shoulder.
"Yes. The guards will scramble and hide like rats once the chaos starts."
Kallus raises a brow, skepticism shinning in his eyes, probably still confident in the Imperial efficiency despite having defected a few months ago, so Cassian adds, "Not my first rodeo in a prison break."
Cassian sees curiosity taken ahold of Kallus. He knows that the ex-imperial is filing the information in his head, and will ask about it in another time. Andor isn't looking forward to it. He hardly talks about his time in Narkina 5.
From ROUGH AWAKENING (Chapter 5):
“The chip had been malfunctioning for what I can guess. According to your med droid, this had happened to another clone before.”
The unexpected mention of that incident hits Echo like a physical blow. Az-3 told him a while ago how Tup’s chip degraded and malfunctioned, making him carry out what Echo suspects is Order 66 untimely and kill General Tiplar on the spot. That’s what led Fives to investigate the inhibitor chips and to his death. It’s futile, but Echo can’t help thinking that if he hadn’t been blown up in The Citadel and taken as prisoner by Tambor, he might’ve been able to save Fives. Together, they would’ve uncovered the conspiracy… saved the Jedi and even perhaps ended the war. Most importantly, prevent the rising of the Empire.
Echo allows himself to dwell on that fantasy a second longer before whisking it away. It’s pointless to brood over something he can’t change. Fives is dead. For much it hurts him, his brother won’t return from the dead as Echo did.
And from A REASON TO FIGHT (which should be a one-shot, but who knows 😆)
Kanan slips out of his meditative state as soon as the door of the room slides open to admit Ezra. Blind as he is, Kanan can’t see his Padawan’s expression, but does feel the worry and slight annoyance plaguing him through their Master-Padawan bond. Feelings that are similar to the one Kanan also experiences. Ripples of anguish and anxiety in the Force are pushing against his mental shields, stabbing with maddening insistence. His headache has grown steadily since the Spectres came back from their mission, with one of them hurt.
“Kanan, we need to do something!” Ezra whines.
“I can’t stand it anymore. He’s in so much pain.”
“I know, Ezra, but I don’t think he’d welcomed our help right now. We need to give him some space. Hera is keeping an eye on him and will let us know if she needs backup.”
“But—”
“Sit and meditate with me.”
Ezra lets out a groan. “Yes, Master.” He does what he is told and settles on the floor across Kanan with the exasperation that only a midager can muster.
Send me an ask with one of these titles that most intrigue you, and I'll post a little snippet or tell you something about it!

Hi there buddy, my name is Athena. I'm coming to say hi, see how you're doing and this is a chance to ramble about your wips. Have any of your wips been influenced/inspired by podcasts or any other media?
hello Athena!! you keep spooking me with your url changes, and i end up looking like caveman spongebob trying to figure out who’s sending me asks
many of my wips have been inspired by media i’ve consumed! not podcasts, as i don’t listen to podcasts (i have tried but my brand of adhd makes me tune them out if i’m not sitting still and consciously listening to them), but from just about everything else!!
recently i was inspired to start two new wips by media. they’re both still at the “vague idea” stage but i’m hoping to develop them more.
1 - nightwood wip (which i keep trying to call the nightwell wip so i’ll probably rename it). inspired by my marathons of lockwood & co, the law according to lidia poet, and the night agent. (i 100% just smashed two of the inspiring titles together for the temporary wip name and i’m not even sorry.)
this one’s about a disaster twentysomething working as a barista by day and a bartender by night who is thrown into the world of demon hunting and shadowy government agencies when her brother is kidnapped and she’s the only witness. features a shitty dead dad whose misogyny is still fucking over his daughter, a woman willing to go to the end of the world (and beyond) to save her brother, a golden retriever-coded man trying to keep her alive while unraveling a web of corruption, secretive quasi-government agencies, and some fun demon fighting gadgets.
2 - plane crash wip. i don’t even have a better temporary title for it than that. this one came about bc i watched a few minutes of a horror movie on facebook (called flight 7500). i then went on a research deep dive into the flight it was based on (helios airways flight 522) and then other depressurization incidents, then other plane crashes caused by mechanical failures, then plane crashes caused by pilot error…. it was a real spiral. smash that fixation together with the ads for the new season of departure (never watched the show but i want to), leftover love for the night agent, and being reminded of my love for fringe, and i ended up with a new story concept!
it centres around a woman (currently a journalist, but this might change) who’s first on scene after a passenger jet crashes. air traffic control lost contact with the plane and it’s assumed to be a depressurization incident, but as she’s searching for survivors she realizes something is off—there’s no survivors, because there’s no bodies. a (suspicious) fire erupts during the investigation, destroying most of the evidence before it can be collected, and officials are quick to announce that it burned so hot that recovering bodies won’t be possible. our leading lady digs for answers—where did the passengers go? why is the government so quick to cover it up?—and quickly finds herself digging into secrets that were meant to stay buried.
as you can tell, i’m in my government conspiracy/cover-up story era 😌 i don’t have much experience writing contemporary or thriller-type things, so we’ll see how this goes!!
thank you for the ask and for the opportunity to ramble!!

❛ you’re not as bad as everyone says you are. ❜ (For Lore)
The prosaic hum of the engines whispered tauntingly in his synthetic ears; the resonance and vibration served as an immutable reminder of his incarceration aboard a ship filled to the brim with people, humans... His light eyebrows drew together in quelled acrimony and his yellow ocular components glared up at the ceiling of his confines; contempt effervescing in his chest cavity, increasing the thermal energy in his central processing unit. His personal quarters ⸺ there was nothing personal about it ⸺ coincidentally moonlighted as a brig. He couldn’t leave, two security officers were stationed outside at all times, and his access to the replicator, on the far side of the room, was limited to producing biolubricants lest he replicate a weapon or chip with which he could hijack the entire vessel. Yeah, right, as if he could compromise the systems without having high level clearance and the corresponding personal codes... The bed was a nice addition, though he suspected it was a standard feature and not placed in here to accommodate his comfort...
When the automatic doors disengaged, the android had to restrain himself from rolling his eyes in vexation ⸺ here we go again... The individual, whoever they were, was standing outside his peripheral vision, but he couldn’t be bothered to rotate and tilt his head to the left to ascertain who’d been courageous enough to venture into his lair. When she disrupted the semi-silence and forced his voice recognition subroutine to initiate its verification sequence, Lore expelled a cynical string of laughter.
‘No. I’m worse,’ he retorted, a smirk expanded across his pearlescent white countenance, momentarily thriving in his acerbic wit. ‘I’m also ten times funnier than my brother, but I doubt anyone has briefed you on that little fact ⸺ such a shame. Oh well, Federation censorship, I suppose. They can’t afford having the crew humanise me too much after I annihilated an entire colony, now, can they? They’d prefer to see a monster and deliberately opt to disregard my talents, my unparalleled and unprecedented sense of humour.’
In one swift motion, Lore threw his legs over the edge of the bed and assumed an upright position, his yellow eyes landing on the only individual aboard this infernal vessel he actually enjoyed conversing with. He rose to his full height and comically gestured to the replicator.
‘Would you like a semi-organic nutrient suspension in a silicon-based liquid medium, or would you prefer the more delicious, thirst-quenching semi-organic nutrient suspension in a silicon-based liquid medium?’ he quipped sarcastically.
Ah, yes, employing humour to deflect trauma and mask his hardship. The perfect strategy to brush aside his cognitive impairments, physical malfunctions, and emotional instabilities...
‘Does my beloved brother know you came here of your own accord? I’d rather not endure a repetition of last week’s visit and be reprimanded again ⸺ he doesn’t quite understand my humour like I do. And it showed.’

Here me out with this theory cause I kinda goes along with your seer kit hc-
So from what little we know about kit's family history, we can deduct some facts
1) the riders were NOT responsible for the death of anyone in his family but his mom as shown in this seen where the riders say that kit looks like his mom and like auraline
They specifically compared him to only those two. So either, rosemary is secretly auraline and roland's daughter(which doesn't make any sense bc according to tessa, rosemary inherited the first heir blood from her dad) or the riders didn't kill his other ancestors
2) roland was born a few years before the events in tid
Which would mean he was born between 1867-1875. But we also know that 1936 was the last year anyone of note saw him alive, and that auraline used her magic to keep him young and alive. But he eventually died of natural causes, I'll assume maybe 20 years later
According to cat, she and him had a fight over him using magic
We also know that he and cat had a falling out sometime after he met auraline because he was using magic
Magic? What? How does he, a supposed shadowhunter/mundane descendant, have enough magic to perform shows and not tip off the downworlders on the market?
3) tobias and eva's marriage was a shock to everyone
Cat says that eva was a brave and strong woman and that tobias was kind, sweet, and loyal
She also mentioned something interesting about tobias' parents. His father was a "hard man" and his mother was "hysteric", which I do believe is olden days code for "abusive" and "mentally ill/traumatized"
4) tobias father definitely helped felix kill annabel because it literally couldn't have been anyone else
Now here's the theory part
Eva blackthorn and tobias herondale died around 1828, and I imagine were around 16-18 from what we know about shadowhunter marriages. For the sake of hypotheticals, let's say they were 16 when they got married and nearly 17 when they died
So if they were 16ish in 1828, that means they were born in 1811-1812. Annabel was born in 1793 and died in 1812
My theory is that the real reason annabel and malcolm stole the black book was so they could have a child since they were in love. And that while torturing annabel her family found out that she was pregnant, so they waited until she gave birth to kill her, and then felix and adelaide raised her as their own
Circling back to the fact that felix and tobias' father are friends, tobias' father knew eva was a half warlock and so when he found out they were having a child, he and felix had tobias sent to bavaria instead of his brother, who was said to be the best of his generation, knowing he'd die. And then they convinced the clave to burn eva and their child in his place
THAT'S how roland has magic, why roland's body was able to accept auraline's magic, and why annabel felt a motherly urge to protect ash from the clave(bc she couldn't protect her daughter)
Ik it's a stretch but at this point there are so many plot holes surrounding the lost herondales anything could be true
Im pretending i do not see it bc can you IMAGINE.
#the love of your life is directly descended from the woman who killed your twin sister wdyd#undescribed

WIBTA if I decided to leave my siblings?
I'd ask you to read the full post before deciding, but the crux of the matter really lies in the title.
I (17m) have a lot of siblings, but right now I'm specifically talking about the three I was raised with. (in age order: A is 17m, K is 15m, and D is 13m. Relevant also are G, 18F, and her/our mom, E, 50s?F. E has more of our siblings but they're not relevant here.)
A, K, D, and I were all raised by our dad (762M). He wasn't even supposed to /be/ our dad -- we were given to him by our biological (kind of, we're all test tube babies) father as repayment for something he'd stolen. He was /supposed/ to give back the thing or some money or something but, nope, toddlers. Our dad kept us as his anyway and he really did do his best. He was a famously dangerous type but he spent who knows how much money on dealing with A's scandals without ever saying anything about it, he stopped wearing leather because D wanted to sit by him but the sound bothered him, he taught all of us the skills of the trade, he fully funded all of our hobbies, whatever. Hell, when I finally told him I'd been going farther from home than I was supposed to and met some of our other siblings, he was upset, sure, but he gave me permission to leave the city and invited them to come by pretty much whenever they wanted. The associates who knew him before we showed up claim that we made him soft, and I believe it.
Doesn't mean he was a perfect dad, we got in a huge fight about some of my issues with him the last time we talked, but none of it was ever /that/ serious. I would take the fight back if I could.
So with that context, he died recently. None of us were expecting it, it was very sudden and violent, but my siblings (the ones I met last year) and I accidentally got involved in this whole mess of stuff regarding our bio dad's world domination plans or whatever and dad just.... died. For us, which makes it extra rough.
According to K, I apparently just shut down so bad G had to pick me up and carry me out and I then I cried so hard I threw up. I really don't remember, so he could be lying, but E immediately put on the whole stern mom voice about how it wasn't kind to make fun of me for that, so. K and A are also trying really hard to insist that he's still alive, but they didn't see him die, /I/ did, and G agreed there's no chance he's still alive but they won't believe me on it.
We've been living at E's place ever since.
And I don't know, I just don't feel like I can do anything else here. D got freaked out by something and nearly took out G's eye and she handled it so well that he's been following her around like a puppy since. (Not exaggerating. E and I still haven't been able to get the blood out of the carpet). Meanwhile A made ONE comment about me not having loved our father enough or something and I got so nasty with him that we're not on speaking terms right now.
I don't know what exactly it would help if I left, but it's not as if they would be ALONE. A has hit it off really well with one of our siblings and they've declared themselves bonded brothers and spend all of their time together. D is pretty much ignoring everyone else in favour of G and she's endlessly patient with him, so he'll do fine. K found out E still knows all our genetic codes by memory (from helping to create us) and has been pestering her about it, plus he's started some kind of friendly engineering competition with another one of our siblings. It's just me that's not settling in, and having more of us makes us more difficult to hide. E kept her kids entirely away from our creator until last year and he still doesn't know how to find them when he wants to, but she has a lot less resources than our dad had.

Analysis number two and we're doing Journey Beyond Sodor, a movie I saw pretty recently, so I wanna get my thoughts out before they fade from my mind. (I swear I'll do season 2 after this). I will say, overall, I had a lot of fun with this movie. No, it's not perfect, but I liked it enough to actually purchase it so I can watch it over and over again. More beneath the cut since this post might get a bit long.
So, first of all, I love James in this movie. He has the vibe of an obnoxious older brother in this movie and I'm living for it. He's just petty and a jerk and I enjoy it. He also has a bit of an arc as he does go to help Thomas in the end and for the most part stays focused on that goal, even if he initially had selfish reasons for doing so. As a long term James lover, I was very pleased with his characterization in this special.
So, let's talk about characters introduced in this movie. First we have the three experimental engines, Lexi, Theo, and Merlin. I fully enjoyed these three. They're so quirky and I couldn't help but enjoy them (seems to be a pattern with this analysis so far). Lexi is very enthusiastic, despite her belief she can't do anything. I can kinda relate sometimes. Theo is also someone I can relate to, being nervous and jittery but also trying to be kind. According to his wiki entry he was intended to be autistic coded, which I think is kinda cool. Merlin is also just so enthusiastic but clearly a little bit...well, special, seeing as he thinks he can turn invisible by letting off steam and closing his eyes. But I love his sincerity and adventurous spirit. Overall the experimentals are a strange little found family of imperfect individuals and I love them.
Lastly, we have Hurricane and Frankie. I can't explain it, but I really like Hurricane. I'm kind of a sucker for villains whose hearts aren't really in it. While he goes along with Frankie, I feel like he's genuinely nice in some places, like saving Thomas from melting and risking himself, just sort of held back by the engine he associates with. Speaking of her, I did not like Frankie. I mean, she's a good antagonist, but she reminds me of my grandma (an awful person, I'm sure you can guess), who pulls a lot of similar stuff to her. Overall I didn't like her and I wasn't sure she really deserved the redemption she got.
Characters aside, I also enjoy the plot. It feels pretty well paced for the most part except for a few spots where things felt slightly rushed, but they did have to squeeze things into an hour and twelve minutes. Overall, things felt varied and the adventure was fun. I actually expected the experimentals to show up and never be seen again, but they came back towards the end, which I was happy about.
Also the song numbers are very enjoyable. 'Somebody Has to Be the Favorite' had me grinning like an idiot the second it started. Beresford's back and forth number with Thomas was also enjoyable and I liked how Thomas tricked Beresford at the end (it made me wish CGI Thomas was a bit more cheeky sometimes as he's more nicey nice in the stuff I've seen). 'Hottest Place in Town' has been stuck in my head for days and I really like Frankie and Hurricane's singing voices. Side note I love that they repeat it when James shows up at the steelworks but he's not buying it. Thomas' song about wanting to go home was probably the least noteworthy and I don't like his singing voice that much. 'We Can't Do Anything' was a fun number that made me think the experimentals were stuck between the depression and acceptance stages of the grieving process, though it was a little long. 'The Most Important Thing is Being Friends' is my least favorite, but it's not bad and wraps up the film pretty well (plus I like Henry's joke of 'what did I miss?' at the tail end after him being gone through the whole movie).
So let's talk a bit about things I didn't enjoy as much. First of all, Thomas' voice is a bit irritating to me, though that isn't exclusive to this movie, it's a problem I have with other parts of CGI Thomas. It's especially noticeable when he sings as I alluded to above. Another thing is something I touched on a bit earlier, I didn't like that Frankie got a redemption arc. Well, it's not even an arc. It just happens. It felt a little too fast after everything she did and I don't think we really saw a redeeming side to her. I understand that it's a kid's film and they want to give it a good ending, but still, it bugs me just a bit. Though what I like about this special is enough to counteract these for me.
Journey Beyond Sodor was one of the first pieces of CGI Thomas I saw and I'm glad it was cause it gave me some optimism and the hope that made me look for the good in CGI Thomas. I thoroughly enjoyed this special, even if it's imperfect. Sorry if this seems all over the place, I'm still finding how I wanna do these and this was more rapid fire thoughts than anything.

This Is A Wild Game (Of Survival) (Escape Plan Pt. 2)
Third Person POV
Gray and Emma Mitchell had just escaped their older brother, Zach, and were running around exploring. "Look!" Emma pointed towards a beaten path and decided to follow it. Tiptoeing past bushes and other types of plants, they followed the trail and saw a camp of sorts. Emma pulled out a pocket map and hummed. "That's the raptors, according to the map." She folded it and slipped it into her pocket. "Let's get closer." "No, wait!" Gray yanked her back. "Raptors are really smart, Emma. And I don't think we can be here." "Why not?" Emma asked hotly. "They're dinosaurs, they're in a cage, Gray. Come on, quit being a sissy." She strolled forwards, and Gray sighed, catching up. "But wait! I saw a sign on the fence back there." He pointed back the way they'd come, but Emma wasn't listening. "So what, Gray. I wanna see the raptors. And then I promise we can go. Just...don't get us caught." She crept forwards, peering through bars. "Wow, look at them!"
Four raptors, at least six feet tall, were prowling the cage, hissing and growling at one another. "that one's blue." Gray pointed to the obvious Alpha female, a gorgeous raptor with blue streaks on each of her sides. "Wow...she's beautiful." "And dangerous." A voice spoke, and the kids turned, staring, at a man. He had short brown hair, green-blue eyes, and was dressed in a brown leather vest, a blue, long-sleeved shirt (though the sleeves were currently rolled up), and brown pants and boots coated in dust. "Who are you and what are you doing here?" He asked, stern but not mean. Gray gulped, "W-we're just looking at the raptors, we're sorry." Instead of answering, he stood next to them, watching the raptors. "They're smart, you're right about that. They'd tear you to pieces before you saw them coming. Listen, I want you to stay away from here, okay? If something goes wrong, you can't be here to see it, got that?" "What could go wrong? Aren't the fences meant to keep them in?" "Yeah, but like many animals--monkeys, elephants, the like--Raptors can open doors." The silence after those words was heavy. "Wow." Gray muttered, eyes wide. "What's your name?" Emma asked boldly, and the man smirked. "Owen Grady." "I'm Emma, this is Gray. Zach's our older brother." Owen frowned, a strange glint in his eyes. "I think I know you. Your aunt's looking for--"
Suddenly, there was a shout. "Code 19, Code 19!" People began to run along the catwalk, yelling incomprehensible codes and numbers. "What's happening?" Emma asked, moving closer to Gray, who whispered back, "I don't know." "Inside, now!" Owen shouted, pushing them to a little shack. "Stay in here for right now, okay? 'll be right back!" He shut the door and they heard him running off. "I'm scared," Emma whispered.
MEANWHILE...
"What do you mean you lost them, Zach?!" His aunt shouted down the line. "They ran off on me, so don't snap, okay?! I wasn't looking, I was on the phone with my Mom!" He shouted, earning a few looks from the others inside the Innovation Center. It was awfully echo-like in here....
Lowering his voice, he said, "Look, I can find them, I do know where they went." He shut his eyes tight, hoping his aunt believed his lie. "God, Zach, please bring them back," His aunt moaned, and before she hung up, he heard her say, "Karen's gonna kill me." Mom's going to be mad for sure, but she doesn't have to know, Zach told himself, starting a search. He asked several ride employees about his siblings, but most of them had 20,000 people to deal with and didn't remember just two kids. Which was, admittedly, fair, but it wasn't making things any easier.
Groaning, he moved on, arriving at the Gyrospheres. The employee, a kid not much older than Zach, with shaggy brown hair and, to be frank, a rather dumb look, was the winner. "Oh, yeah. they're about this tall?" He held his hands out, at different heights, which resembled Emma and Gray's exactly. When Zach asked where they went, the \boy shrugged, jerking his thumb to the hamster balls behind him. "One of these. Just jump in this one, okay?" He stopped a ball, ad Zach got in, and away he zoomed.
GRAY AND EMMA...
"Triceratops." Emma pointed, marking it down in her little notebook. She was keeping track of all the kinds of animals the park had. So far, she had a Triceratops herd, Stegosaurus herds, Apatosaurus herds, a T. Rex, the Velociraptor pack, a huge number of Procompsognathus (commonly just called Compies), a Dilophosaurus pack (just three of them), a Pterosaurs flock, and a Parasaurolophus (duck-billed) herd.
"Do you think there's some we haven't found?" Emma asked as gray steered them on. "Not sure. Look, another Pterosaur." The huge mammal swooped overhead, towards the water, and they watched it catch a huge fish. "Cool!" Emma crowed, jotting down the wing structure, the speed, the aerodynamics, the angles, and the way it caught the fish. "I'm gonna be the best paleontologist ever!" She yelled, her voice echoing around the ball.
"Hey, watch the volume," Gray teased, and she laughed. "Hey, go there." She suddenly pointed to a broken gate, and Gray hesitated. "It says Restricted, though."
And, true to his word, the broken gate had a black, red, and white sign that read RESTRICTED: NO ACCESS ALLOWED. ONLY AUTHROIZED EMPLOYEES!!
"It's alright, go." She gently tapped the steering stick forwards, and they sailed through the gate.
ZACH POV
This was insane.
I was no closer to catching my siblings, and apparently, from the frantic phone call Claire had tried to give me, there was a new dinosaur on the loose, a very, very dangerous one, and God, where the hell were they?!
I saw a broken gate and thought, what the hell. Appearing on the other side, I gasped, jerking the buckles off. The Gyrosphere, the only one there, had been knocked over so hard that little sparks were coming from the bottom, meaning it had no power. I raced forwards, seeing a giant, jagged tooth in the plastic. A dinosaur tooth.
No. Oh, no. I felt my knees crumple. Were they eaten, or did they escape? Screaming caught my attention. "Go away!" I heard Emma scream, and another shout. "He bit me!" Gray yelled, and I raced towards their voices, following it around a curve in the road. Dead ahead, two velociraptors were jumping, trying to get the kids. they were 25 feet up in a tree, screaming, kicking at the raptors to keep them away or possibly hurt them. "Astop it!" Gray wailed, kicking at another one. I had to do something!
"HEY!" I shouted, and the Raptors whirled, focused entirely on me. Okay...bad idea.
"Come on, come on!" I shouted, picking up a slightly-heavy rock and throwing it full-force at a raptor. It hit her in the shoulder and she shrieked, angry now, but she was hurt. "Stop it, stop it!" Emma screamed, and for some reason, the raptors froze, like they were robots attuned to sound and commands. They turned, looking at my sister. She had hopped off the tree and was flaring at the animals. "Leave my family alone!" She shouted. One of the raptors, a really pretty female with blue streaks, jerked her head like a wince, and the raptors turned and ran, gone in seconds. "Are you guys okay--are you nuts, even?!" I shouted, grabbing Emma and Gray's arms. "Ow, watch it!" Emma shouted and I turned, fast enough to drop gray's arm and clutch her shoulders . "no, you watch it. You're lucky you're not dead, Emma Jean." I snapped, and she gulped. I only used her middle name when she was absolutely fucked. "I had to call Aunt Claire to see if she'd seen you, and of course that got her asking, and I told her you ran off! If you two ever disappear again, I will not look for you again!" My voice echoed, and a flock of small birds whistled and took flight at the volume. The kids stared at me, and I sasw hurt in their eyes. I sighed, groaning into my hands. "I'm sorry. I was just scared, okay? I'm not mad." I pulled them to me, hugging them tightly. "I love you guys. I do. But you scared the shit out of me." "Sorry, Zach. But we wanted to explore. And..." She hesitated. "I told the raptors to leave, so we won't be eaten, at least." "Why do you think they listened to you?" Gray asked as we started walking back to the park. "I dunno. I told them to leave, and they looked at me, said okay, and left." "Wait, wait, wait, they said okay?" I asked, frowning.
Emma looked up at me. "Yeah, they agreed to stay away and left." Me and Gray shared a glance. "Okay." (Turns out, according to Dr. Wu, yeah, she could talk to Raptors. Great).

hc + discipline :3
send me hc + [word] for a headcanon!
Etie is a very disciplined person—particularly self-disciplined.
She maintains a deep dedication to her training, no matter how demanding or difficult it gets, and is diligent in her duties as a retainer, as well as her study of bodybuilding. She's the sort of person to dive headfirst into whatever her current goal is, never turning away from it until she's gotten what she wants out of it.
But even though Etie is self-disciplined, good at holding herself accountable for her own training, or mistakes she's made and offenses she's caused other people (once she realizes she's made them), I think her upbringing as a noble played a large part in the discipline she carries herself with.
Etie: Out of all my siblings, my parents were strictest with me. I used to worry they hated me. Sigurd: They expected much because they saw much potential. You learned discipline from this, yes? Etie: Well, they gave me a body to run with, and running is how I ease my mind. So there’s that. Sigurd: Naturally, parents wish to protect their children. The reasons may elude the child, however.
In her A bond with Sigurd, Etie mentions that her parents raised her much more strictly than her older siblings, so much so to the point that she believed her parents hated her. Sigurd points out that this is what taught her discipline. I've also been looking into Etie's lines and information in the JPN text recently, and found an interesting detail in her Ally profile.
While both languages mention her having an older brother and sister, the JPN text specifies that her siblings are many more years older than her. In other words, a notable age gap. The wording used is similar to what Alcryst uses when he talks about his own age difference with Diamant (eight years, according to code), so I assume it may be a similar situation with Etie and her older siblings.
She is from a distinguished family, and the daughter of a marquis. Her family seems to have a close relationship with the royals, which is why she was able to grow up with Alfred and Celine, and would no doubt hold their family's reputation to a very high standard.
I believe Etie's view of her parents is rooted in truth, but also a colored perception. Sigurd's response ("the reasons may elude the child") only hammers in this assumption for me. It's not that she was necessarily raised more strictly than her siblings, but that she may have been too young to really remember or KNOW how her siblings might have been raised, because of how much older they are.
The brother was no doubt raised to take up the family's estate (much like Chloe's older brother), and Etie's sister was likely raised with those same Firene standards of elegance and domesticity, expected in noblewomen.
You can even see hints of that in Etie's own behavior. In the JPN version, she has an EXTREMELY polite and formal way of speaking, her animations are the same ones used for more elegant characters (like Ivy), and despite her unconventional interest in bodybuilding, Etie is very much a product of her highbrow environment. Now imagine her sister, who is probably the same, but without the love of muscle.
Having such older (and likely well-established) siblings, there were probably expectations put on Etie that her parents may have wanted her to meet, and her straying from their conventional view of a noblewoman added to the pressure.
But the magic of Etie is that she took that discipline, and instead of crumbling under the pressure, channeled it into something purposeful and positive: her passion for self-improvement, through exercise and training.
#headcanons#[ thank you clover! ]#[ this has been in my inbox for the last month but tumblr kept it HIDDEN until only some days ago ]#[ but it's so fun that you asked this bc when I saw that detail about her siblings the other day ]#[ it filled in more of her family situation for me ]#[ and just how that may have affected her as a person ]

Mom: with step brother moving out you're going to have your toys/collections in his old room. No discussions.
Me: I'd prefer having all my stuff in one room adn that be like the study or somthing, but I agree for the forseeable future sure, I guess...
I am a maximalist, a collector of things, a lover of physical items. Her attempts at me losing/getting rid of things have either failed in the long term or caused me to hold onto certain items for far longer than intended. She is a minimalist in her older age (not old age, she's barely almost 50) and her sentimental attachments have either been broken, lost, or become non-existent emotion wise. A lot of things she's held dear in the past 4 years especially have been destroyed by people who were her friends, people we onced considered family (including step brother), and herself due to her bipolar issues (she wasn't medicated til about 2023/2024)
I've done everything possible to ensure the stuff we both owned could be kept safe and away from those wanting to destroy her stuff. My room has always been a no go zone for anyone but me and her (and she barely enters herself past the doorway). Our garage sale has come and gone leading to me getting rid of stuff I didn't want, she didn't want, and airing my room out of certain items that weren't mine. I still have some stuff, but it isn;t over taking my room or limited safe spaces (ie breakables aren't all over my shelves and food cans are finally in one place). This time last year my room was almost falling over in places due to the amount of items everywhere.
Mom doesn't really understand me when it comes to this stuff, I've never had a real chat about it with her past "this is my stuff and I like it", but when I told her about my age regression and she started to see it first hand... it seems like that gave her a sort of answer on this subject... Due to my agere being near purely involuntary she's somehow interpreted my actions as being some kinda mental issue (like a side effect of autism being issues with textures, not an illness or anything in itself).
How do you tell someone that due to the years of having to put your favorite things into boxes adn bags, and go to your other parent's house for so many years just to get the stuff you bring over stolen/broken by the other kids, and have instances where you suddenly need to leave and choose to leave your fav items cause you ahve a younger sister to take care of instead of yourself, that all of that effects you today that all of that... makes you super incapable of letting go of certain things now... I cry just typing this out, I can't physically say any of this...
She judges me every time we pass the toy aisles in stores, every time I look at a plushie, every time I mention one of those things... but also is happy to go shopping with me for that stuff... She enjoys the look on my face when I see something I enjoy, that I can afford it in that moment, she enjoys coming to see me during/after the unboxing process adn seeing whatever little trinket or item I got. When I told her about the new gen of LPS right before my b-day she and my step dad went to roughly 3 walmarts before going to a target and seeing a wall of the stuff. She made sure to look up the codes on the blindboxes that tell you which you got, she snuck me one fo those cats from the blindbox display box, adn when we found the decora girls she helped me with the codes on that one and get a different one when I nearly got a double...
I know she cares, I know she just wants me to be happy, but when she's in a judgmental mood it hurts because previous moments don't matter anymore... it's the here and now adn according to her that often means "getting rid of what's not needed" and making room for what we want for the future. Our christmas/halloween/etc village stuff aren't happening anymore, most if not all are gone, all cause "we don;t need it" and "it takes too much space". I'm glad they didn't go into my sister's closet or their closet with my plushies.... god knows how many I would've seen get sold, given away, or on the final day packed up to be sent to the landfill....
I got 2 plushies ordered from Makeship last month with my step dad's help, she wasn't pleased with my choices, but didn't step in our way... All I can do is hope she doesn't cause a fuss in October/November when I get 3 plushie packages (my sis ordered me a plushie with her money adn I paid her back immediately, it's a long story) and my step dad get's carded fro another one he technically bought me today (makeship petition plush, won't be live til then)...

"How?" Lee queried Jason, incredibly stunned. "No one. No one knew. Only myself and..."
Lee paused, unable to collect his scattered thoughts. Jason then quietly and confidently finished Lee's sentence.
"Only you and Luke knew....and then there's Peter who..."
Lee, who was still dazed and highly perplexed over his dark delinquent past rapidly unraveling before his very eyes, cut Jason off at the mention of Peter's name.
"Peter. He didn't even use that alias then and the only photo that existed of him at that time in his profile was a boarding school I.D. under the name Henrik Faison, his birth name. He must have only been 18 in that picture. I had never come face to face with him nor his now dead father...only his older half brother Charles, the one we were after...who's also dead."
"Yes. Charles Rane. British terrorist, best known as the Rane of terror for hi-jacking planes, devil worship, changing his face and killing anyone who got in his way." Jason confirmed, sparking a morbid memory flash for Lee of a mission where he witnessed the murderous side of the barmy blonde Brit attempting to alter his appearance with plastic surgery, killing the plastic surgeon with one deep swipe of a scalpel across his throat.
"Peter was and still is quite similar in the fact he's a also a heinous monster and changes his appearance as well, just not under the knife like Rane did. And of course, his names too as you know." Jason continued.
"Yes, so you can skip telling me what I already know and start telling me what I don't know. How do YOU know?? That part of my life, it's classified and privileged information."
"Well." Jason said, rubbing his palms together as he sighed. "First and foremost, I have a long violent history with Faison, Peter too and...and I don't know if you're aware of August's infatuation with my sister and the whole hospital incident 4 years ago?"
"Yeah, she told me and I was actually there that night, locked down on the floor below. What does any of that have to do with this??"
"Because it's very possible that Peter, even Faison were targeting you over Rane's death."
"It crossed my mind but...Jo told me Faison's presence was tipped off to the police and they trapped him and Peter in the hospital because they had sought out Britt for refuge."
"Well that's what it appeared to be. But.. why was Faison in Salem in the first place? And on the 6th anniversary of Rane being blown to bits."
"You just said you had an extensive not so nice history with the guy and of course, Britt and Nathan are his family so maybe it was all for one happy fucking reunion or to shoot the shit with you, pun intended." Lee snapped, becoming agitated that he knew Jason was right.
"Lee...Britt and I were not in town then. Faison didn't even know yet that Nathan was his son. To finally answer your question from earlier, Peter began writing Britt from prison when he found out somehow that she was seeing you. Britt wouldn't read them, nor tell Jo about it and gave them to Spinelli in case there was anything in them that he or Sonny needed to know."
Lee chuckled and shook his head as he pulled his hand down his face.
"So that's how you know. From the real Sam Colin himself."
"It is. According to Peter, he had figured out your true identity a few years after his brother's death and he was attempting to get Britt to tell Jo about your past in hopes that she would leave you. And since Peter knows who you are, I guarantee you Cyrus knows since they were two peas in a cellblock with nothing better to chat about. It makes sense now as to why Renault is so interested in you. I'm willing to bet my life, ok wrong choice of words.... I'd bet anything... that he has plans of trying to recruit you on his side because after all...you did take out one of the most indestructible antagonists with nothing but an aerosol can and a microwave."
"Rane AND his men and...it was much more than just an aerosol can."
"Almost too good to be true. Either way, it got the job done and I think it's safe to say that Peter wants you dead so that's why I had Spinelli warn you that your cover was blown. Peter may be in prison but we all know that don't stop ruthless scum like him from using outside sources to do their dirty work. Cyrus could be helping him for all we know if it benefits him in some way."
"Then why am I still alive? I know you know Cyrus quite well Jason, but from what I can see, he's a leader, and an independent one. He works for or with no one, they work for him. What could Peter possibly have to interest someone like Cyrus? They are both quite similar in their evil ways but yet so very incompatible, for even evil despises opposing evil. I know the profiles. Peter has nothing to offer, not even as an ally and he has no blood ties now, except Britt but she remained strong and smart and fought the insidious influence of her father and both brothers. Not Peter. He's weak and he gets careless as a man and a business man. Always has been and is even more so now. If Cyrus wants me in his circle of vultures as you first theorized, then that's what will benefit him. But what about Luke? I mean, he's the one who arranged the entire setup with Rane all the while Luke set me the fuck up with that alias to draw him out. Luke must have been mentioned in the letters for you to know about him."
"He was. That's how Peter was able to track you down, but he got tangled up in my sister, luckily for you, not so lucky for her. Did she tell you why he's in prison?"
"No. She had said he did terrible things to her but she never told..."
You intentionally appeared from around the side of the deck where you had been standing to stop Jason from blabbing your personal nightmare. Britt slowly followed in your shadow, wondering to herself what she would have done if she had read those letters.
The two men remained silent and stunned as Lee's sapphires met your eyes that were flooded with pain, confusion and tears that refused to fall.
"Well, since you're both stuck on stupid...how about if I start. Yes, we heard every word and..."
"Jo...baby please...just let me expl..."
"I'm sorry SAM, have we met? You seem familiar. Like, you look a whole hell of a lot like my boyfriend, the good doctor Lee, but I wasn't aware he had an evil twin and now it seems Britt was justified in referring to you as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, hide being the key word only spelled differently just like your three letter names are and it also seems that I was justified in once asking you who the hell you were."
"Jo...stop. I have been trying to talk to you abo..."
"Like, I don't even know where I should start?? Such as with the fact that you were off blowing up terrorists with Luke who was a WSB agent or the fact that I told you about Peter and Faison ages ago and you said NOTHING!"
"Jo, you were a wreck that night after telling me what happened to you at the hospital and... I didn't know him as Peter August then. In fact, I didn't know him at all. We never met. Since you were listening, you should know that. We were after his brother."
"But you knew exactly who Faison was and again, that Peter was his son AND you had everyday after that to tell me and you didn't."
"Peter being his son told me nothing about Sam Colin. I didn't know they were the same person until tonight Jo. You saw my reaction. When I walked away from that life with Luke, I didn't look back...in any way at ALL. He went his way, I went mine. When the hospital shootout occurred and I found out who it was, I went into a fight or flight mode. I chose flight by taking an immediate long fucking vacation because all the gunshots were very audible and it triggered some bad shit for me that I didn't want to remember and I wasn't sure if Faison knew who I was and had been there for me. It was also after Jacob's funeral which made everything just too much and Ethan was there and we began hanging around for awhile and...well you know all about that...and Jesus...can we just go talk about this alone??"
"Sure! Where would you like to go?? How about the boat house where you were at earlier being all weird and secretive too!"
Jason sighed. "Jo, just let Lee talk for a minute without jumping down his throat so you know and understand everything."
"Oh, don't you even speak. You knew too and also said nothing. Of course, I expect that from you. Secrets and lies are your entire world and it obviously don't bother you but it bothers me Jason! Because I'm just never good enough for the truth and then I'm the bad guy when I react! Do you know what that feels like?? and now, I guess I should expect this from you too Lee, since it's becoming a pattern. You two are the real peas in a pod with how much you are alike. Jason...you should go tell Britt what else you kept from her about Jacob and leave us alone!"
You marched back into the house with Lee hesitantly following. Tears were now free falling down your face as you felt his presence behind you and then his hands on your arms.
"Please don't touch me."
Your voice was cold, flat and shaky which Lee knew he should have expected but it still bitterly stung him no less.
As Lee let you go and moved in front of you, his pained eyes and yours momentarily locked but then you turned away.
"Jo...baby...please...please look at me. There's so much you don't understand.
You couldn't do it. If you looked at Lee, his baby blues would suck you right in like a black hole in outer space, so instead, you rambled on, hands waving about as your crying eyes wandered around to any place opposite to the windows of his soul.
"I can't. It hurts too much to look into the eyes that once looked faithfully into mine as you swore that you had no more secrets and would never keep anything from me again. I mean, I really thought with the whole Ethan thing, that you would never risk what we have again...god how stupid was I?? I'm the one that seems to have patterns of being a bad boy magnet and the funny fucking part is, I didn't see that in you when we met...but..how stupid on my part, judging a book by it's cover. I'm the one who pays attention to the signs and yet I was too love blind to see them! Well, until lately with this crazy change in you."
"You...you think I'm...crazy?" he quietly asked, his voice somewhat broken up.
"Yes!!" you shouted, your eyes betraying you as they made a bullseye right onto his. "Am I crazy too? for saying that???"
Lee's eyes fell from yours as he endured the deserved dagger to his heart and then they rose again, but this time they were filled with a resentful rage.
"THIS. This is ONE of the reasons I didn't want to tell you because like Jason said, you jump down my throat before you even know anything Jo!"
"So, if I know everything, that will change the fact that you keep fucking hiding shit from me???"
"NO...but it will explain why! Just like with Ethan. Once you knew the truth, you understood and we got through it."
"This is nothing like that! You kept from me that you were off playing OO7 with Luke and it involved a very dangerous man who's psycho family was VERY relevant in my life."
A hard pounding on the door startled both you and Lee, sending you running beside him regardless of how angry you were.
"Don't move." Lee strongly whispered and looked through the crack in the window's curtain.
He immediately stiffened straight up and angrily pursed his lips, releasing a massive sigh through his nose.
"Well if it isn't James Bond himself."
Lee marched straight to the door and whipped it open so hard, you felt the breeze whirl over your face.
"What the fuck do you want??" Lee barked.
"Your girlfriend." Luke smugly answered, followed by a brief pause to let it get under Lee's skin, in which he greatly succeeded. "To question that is. She here?"
"You just called her this morning, not even two hours ago. You're really eager for the backing of my alibi eh??" Lee retorted as he leaned on the door frame, his arm blocking the entryway.
You appeared behind Lee, visible to Luke under Lee's armpit.
"Just let him in so I can get this over with."
Lee shook his head and glared at the new detective, letting his arm fall to his side with a slap of his hand on his thigh as he only moved a few inches to let the 5 inch shorter Luke slide past him.
"I'd offer you some water since you're so...thirsty, but...faucet's broke." Lee snarked as he walked to the sink, turned it on and rinsed an apple he would momentarily cut up.
Luke scoffed as he grinned, then looked at you.
"You...ok? You've been crying."
Lee slid out a large butcher knife from it's wooden holder, cut a chunk of the apple and munched on it as he intimidatingly walked back to Luke, wiping the 8 inch blade with a towel and wielding it to gesture his smiling sarcasm. His words rolled out in a spot on British accent to mock Luke's. So perfect that one would never have known Lee was American.
"Of course she's been crying. A girl is dead and you're badgering her to corroborate her boyfriend's alibi by showing up at his home unannounced and most certainly.... uninvited."
Lee then laid the knife down on the stand by the front door and leered down at Luke who stood with a riposted stare and a curled smirk.
"Jesus Lee." you huffed. "Can you just give Luke and I fifteen minutes alone please???"
Lee's sullen eyes darted to yours.
"You want ME to leave my own house and you alone to be grilled about ME by someone who looks at you like you're something to eat??"
"I just want to get this over with and set him straight without things escalating and you giving Luke a reason to arrest you. I don't have to be psychic to see that happening."
"Hmmm. Funny, you wanted me there when Gerry questioned you."
"And that didn't go so well either, but hey, at least you didn't smash a vase over his head or indiscreetly wave a knife around at him."
"Like he did that very day. Lets try to also remember here that I'm not the one who almost choked my own brother to death. Luke had it coming just like he felt Ethan did when he hurt Landy too. Go ahead. Defend Luke some more Jo. I love hearing it."
"Lee, what's the problem? You have nothing to hide...right? And Jo here is a big girl and from what I've witnessed, she can hold her own by giving a bloody crack over the head as well."
Lee's lips turned slightly inwards as the two tall, dark and handsome giants exchanged fixed fearless stares.
"Right. Fifteen minutes, not a second more. Watch yourself." Lee snarled at Luke and headed out to the boathouse, slamming the door behind him.
"Lee, I wasn't defen..."
You shuttered as the front door's bang brought silence.
"ding....him." you finished in a whisper and went to sit on the couch.
"He actually told you about that? Shocking." Luke asked as he followed, sitting in a chair across from you.
You were very inclined to agree but swallowed the urge.
"Do you have to antagonize him??"
"He started it."
You rolled your eyes and sighed. It boggled your mind that Luke had been an agent, Lee possibly too, when they both acted like bratty little boys at times.
"The Cult of Dolos? Interesting choice for reading." Luke stated as he caught sight of the book on the table. "This is what Lee reads now? Demons. Hmmmph."
"If you must know, I umm...I was reading it."
It wasn't a lie, you just didn't remember reading it.
"That's even more interesting. So it's...your...book?"
"Luke...cut to the chase. What are you getting at? It's a book."
"Oh nothing. Just an observation."
"So, is there any word on Blaise's whereabouts?? Have you found Ethan?"
"No. My brother is still missing as is Blaise. I did speak to her father though who's very adamant that Ethan is behind it."
"How...how was Craig? I mean, I'm sure he was a wreck."
"You know Mr. Parker?"
"He's my landlord."
"Ohhh. And here I thought it was because he works for Sonny Corinthos and was your brother's side kick. Gerry filled me in. Anyways, to answer your question, Parker is understandably a wreck as you put it and he's also infuriated. From what I've gathered, Ethan seems to think he is the girl's father, at least that's what your sister told me. Either way, legally, Parker is her father according to the birth certificate he had a copy of, waving it in my face."
"You questioned Megan??"
"Well, she actually came to the station of her own free will. She also seems to think it was Ethan that took Blaise."
"You're shitting me. Since when does my sister care about anyone but herself?"
"That I don't know. Another thing Josie. Elizabeth's toxicology. There was another finding. She um... she was pregnant."
"W...what? Oh my god."
"Yeah. Estimated about 6 weeks. And um...that's not all. Upon an outer body study. she um. Josie, Elizabeth had very recent severe vaginal trauma, appearing that she was raped."
A gasp and then an involuntary gulp rolled down your throat, immediately accompanied by another involuntary reaction of your thoughts jumping to yesterday morning when you found Lee in the kitchen after his run. His hoodie and sweats were filthy with dirt. No...no. There was no way! Lee told you he fell when a coyote surprised him. How could your mind betray you like this? How could it betray him?? Lee swore to you only hours ago that he did not attack Liz and you told him you believed him because you did and that was that. With your inside voice, you cursed yourself and abruptly banished the insane thoughts, then continued on in defense of the man you loved.
"Look...I don't know what you're thinking Luke...but Lee was here with me four days straight up to now and he never left, nor did I. It's as simple as that." you lied, hoping it would satisfy him, but you should have know better than that with a man of his intelligence.
"DNA testing is being done on her entire body, so only time will tell."
"Well it won't tell that Lee is guilty! You can't possibly EVER think he did such a heinous act?? He's not violent! Not like that! Sure, he blows his temper sometimes, but who don't??"
"You don't consider smashing a vase over my head violent?"
"Well he must have had a good reason Luke because you sure seem to push his buttons. Wanna fill me in on that part??"
"It seems you may already know. And Lee had plenty of reason to hurt Liz too, did he not? He left that morning for his shift that began when? and what time did he leave? and was anyone else here to verify what you told me?"
"Two dogs and a cat!!" you snapped. "Would you like me to go get them so you can interrogate them too??"
"Josie...I'm just doing my job. I have to ask these questions."
"Yeah and I wasn't born yesterday to know you can't be objective when it comes to Lee, for many reasons. Gerry should be here, not you."
Luke got the distinct feeling that you knew about his and Lee's history but he remained quiet about it, for he wasn't quite sure yet.
"Gerry is the one who told me to come. So, can you tell me the times....please?"
"His shift was 11 am to 9 pm." you spat out as you folded your arms over your chest, giving Luke a cocky eyebrow.
"Annnnd. What time did he leave here and get home?"
"Don't you seriously already know this? Lee told me you questioned him and I'm sure you verified his shift with the hospital??"
"Josie...they're simple questions really. The sooner you answer them, the sooner I can get out of your hair."
You hesitated because you knew Lee had left two hours early that morning and you weren't sure what time he arrived at the hospital so you had to tell the truth, because Luke probably knew when he got there.
"He left here at 9 am. He wanted to settle himself in first and he got home at almost midnight because he had to stay over for a patient that was brought in."
"So he left two hours before his shift started. Video shows him walking in at 10:45."
Your heart sunk into your stomach. What else did Lee not tell you. Where did he go?
"Well maybe he had to get gas and run some errands Luke?? This is ridiculous. I think it's safe to say that Liz was probably a bloody mess when she was brought in. You seriously think he would show up at the hospital all squeaky clean? Because if you take off his drive time, he didn't have a lot of time left to do all that. And...where was she all that time then, while she bled out? because she wasn't brought in until after dusk."
"He has two other homes that he could have cleaned up at. What was Lee wearing when he left?"
"Unbelievable."
"We found a blood stained shirt in his office that is being tested and it's not the same one he was wearing when he came in."
Now you felt like you were going to hurl. "It was...it....Jesus."
You closed you eyes and inhaled deeply, the exhaled to try and focus.
"Hey, you ok??" Luke genuinely asked and reached over the table to touch your hand that rested on your knee.
"I'm fine." you reeled as you yanked your hand away. "He was wearing a white long sleeved dress shirt with a red tie and he carried a black suit jacket with him."
"Ok. That's what he came in with and we found that too."
"Look, Lee has extra clothes there because his job does get messy and don't you have to have like a ...search warrant to go through his office?? What about all the other employees? Why are you singling Lee out?? And better yet, shouldn't you be asking HIM all of this?? You're just using me and we're done here. Times up. You know, I thought you and I had come to a better place but now I'm not so sure about you. I liked you better before you became a cop when I had actually thought I saw glimpses of the real you. But maybe this is really you just like Lee and Orlando have been trying to warn me about. You're supposed to be Lee's friend Luke. God...what the hell did you do to him in the past???? He was doing just fine until you came back."
"Josie...I swear to you this is not personal. Lee...he just dwells on things and holds grudges."
"I'd dwell and hold a grudge too if I felt someone set me up for something. You need to go. Now."
Luke now knew that Lee had told you of their past. Part of it anyways, for you just weren't as mad as you should be for knowing all of it.
Luke stood outside the front door as you went to close it.
"Josie wait...I'm...I'm really sorry. This...this...isn't how I wanted things to be between us."
"And exactly...how...did you want them to be Luke?? I think you should be worrying about your friendship with Lee instead." you directly said and slowly closed the door, then headed to the window to watch him leave.
Once you witnessed Luke drive away, you headed down the path to the boathouse.
Lee had been pacing non-stop for the mere 15 minutes that, to him, seemed like an hour and he was ready to snap. What was Luke telling you? Would he change your belief in Lee's innocence and your belief in him period?
When Lee heard the door open, he spun around with a gasp, his eyes wide and desperate, his breaths heavy as he stood frozen, trying to read your face.
"He's...he's gone." you softly assured him as you noticed the panic he was trying to control. "Lee...they um...they found out something else about Liz."
You went on to tell Lee everything Luke told you, failing miserably at holding back your tears to have to speak such horrific words and from guilt in finding yourself studying Lee's body language and reaction.
Lee stumbled back a step and then slowly sat down in a chair, momentarily rendered speechless as his eyes fluttered in shock over to the wash basin that concealed the washed evidence of his knife and car keys.
"It...it had to be Ethan then...it...it had to be. He....Jesus, did he try to set....how?" he quietly stammered and then stood back up, for he was unable to sit still.
"Luke seems to think it was you."
A scoffing sigh flowed heavily out of Lee's nose as he lowered his head, shaking it in disbelief.
"I'm not a cold blooded murderer. I'm not a rapist. Those things are all Ethan and he knows it. You know it. That's all I care about."
You were silent for a moment, hating yourself for the relentless intrusive thoughts insinuating even the slightest possibility that Lee could be capable of something so diabolical.
"Jo?? You...you said you... believed me. Has...that changed?? Did Luke...did he get to you???"
The tears that had been floating in the corners of your eyes, poured over the rims as you began to feel your stomach twist in sickness.
"Lee...Luke...they umm, they searched your office and found a bloody shirt and...and he said that video shows you entering the hospital at almost 11, but...you...you left here at 9 and..."
You aggressively wiped your tears and sniffled, then continued without making eye contact into the incredulous stare you felt burning right through your soul.
"And you...you were so dirty after...after your run that took longer than usual and...you..you were out here...burning and washing something earlier and I...I just....I don't understand is all."
Your crying eyes unwillingly glided up to his, for like the song said, he was a magnet and you were steel. The expression on his face was of absolute horror, confusion and pain as if you had punched a hole right through his chest and ripped his heart clean out, then stomped on it. Your regret was instant.
"Oh HELL no!" Lee finally snapped and walked away with his hands up when he was able to process what he just heard.
"So which is it then Jo Jo??? Did I do it on my morning run or did I do it just before work???? OR better yet, did I do it in the library with the fucking candlestick??? Oh, my bad, I meant knife. Come on Jo, which CLUE was it that determined my guilt for you huh??? Because I'll tell you right fucking now, you don't have the SLIGHTEST clue and do you know why that is?? Because you don't let me explain anything!"
"Lee, please...I'm sorry!!! I don't know what to even think at all! You always keep things from me and you even said you couldn't blame me for these thoughts. I mean, I heard you tell Jason that you blew people up and the other night, you and him were plotting against Liz to set Ethan up and..."
"Why do you do this??!! Why do you all turn on me like this???!!! I love you!!!" Lee raged in a way you had never seen him before. But now...could you actually blame HIM?
"What I told you happened that morning HAPPENED! I took my pocket knife with me because I know there are coyotes out here in these woods and I ran in to one just like I said and I FELL in the dirt like...I...said! I rested for awhile which is why I took longer...like I said and when I left for work, I ran an errand that happened to involve a surprise for YOU that I'm beginning to now feel was a big mistake. And I spilled a damn red bull on my shirt at work, so I changed and then that shirt got blood on it because a car crash victim was brought in who fucking died on me on my first day back. SO is that what you think now, that I went through with setting Ethan up??? That I would actually force myself on a woman and then brutally attack her ALL to frame him??? Do you think she was pregnant with my kid too???Jesus, if you only fucking knew Jo, what I discovered and that I was trying to protect YOU!"
"M..m..me?" you squeaked as you stood shaking and crying.
Lee stormed over to the sink and quickly walked back to you holding his keys in one hand and his knife in the other, then held them out, shaking them.
"This Jo! This morning, I saw the inside garage door partially open and then I realized my car was parked in the opposite direction that I always put it in. I found the keys in the ignition with blood on them and buried in the bottom of the trunk, I found a bag with bloody clothes and my knife in it, also bloodied. YOUR clothes Jo, that you had on that morning. So you know what I did?? The reason I was out here?? I burned the clothes and scrubbed the keys and knife clean! To...protect..you, because I think you had a blackout from mixing your anxiety meds with that bottle of wine. At least that's what I thought, but now....now I think Ethan turned the tables and tried to set you up while I was at work. So...what do you think now baby???!" Lee shouted and threw the keys across the floor.
"Maybe I'm not the crazy monster you seem to think I am after all huh??" he then said, his voice cold and resentful, then he walked out, leaving you a blubbering sobbing mess as you fell to your knees, your mind spinning with no memory of what Lee just told you and wondering if the damage you caused was irreparable. Could your relationship be salvaged now? Could Lee ever forgive you for ever doubting him? Had you now lost him....forever?

@callicrocs The truth on the changes to the script is that Anne Rice took a lot of the homoerotic/kinkier elements out and Neil Jordan put them back in. This is confirmed by both Rice and Jordan despite being on opposite ends of a Screen Writers Guild arbitration over credit. (The Guild sided with Rice and she is the sole credited writer on the film)
Additional changes made by Jordan are noted by Rice in her looong reaction to the film which are things like 1) changes to lore (no blood tears) and 2) what she calls the “humor” but what I would say is the richer representation of Claudia and her relationship with Lestat (which does involve some humor like the killing of the piano teacher, etc.)
The only change requested from Cruise I can find is for the scene where Louis relocates him near the end of the film. According to the makeup artists, Cruise was strongly concerned about acting under the heavy makeup/prosthetics of the original design so they came up with a lighter version that is seen in the final film. (Note: I have a source for this but it will take me a while to find so watch this space lol)
Me personally? I don’t care. I don’t care if people are Martians. I really don’t care. Straight. Gay. Bisexual. Catholic. Jewish.” — Tom Cruise (src)
One of the reasons I think this myth is so persistent (in additional to the campaign that anne rice and her friends ran against him) is that entertainment/gossip writers of time 1) were stirring up sh*t on purpose as per usual and 2) had not read the books.
You can see quotes where the interviewer says things like “Tom Cruise downplays the homoeroticism, etc.” but the quote from him will be like “for vampires things like male and female don’t matter” and he’s right. He read the books and understood the assignment.
This is such an interesting example of people’s perceptions being affected by their expectations since in the film Tom Cruise’s character is clearly bisexual!
whether it’s the blatant eroticism of the murder of “that gorgeous fop”
to this line:
it’s hard to see what other interpretations there could be of this character
on the other hand, it’s Brad Pitt’s Louis has acquired (albeit briefly) a wife and child that he doesn’t have in the book and doesn’t have anything even close to these lines in the film:
“What would Christ need have done to make me follow him like Matthew or Peter? Dress well, to begin with. And have a luxurious head of pampered yellow hair” “I allowed myself to forget how totally I had fallen in love with Lestat's iridescent eyes, that I'd sold my soul for a many-colored and luminescent thing, thinking that a highly reflective surface conveyed the power to walk on water.“
Brad Pitt was an up-and-comer so these changes are unlikely to have been from his side let’s not start a new rumour lol
I understand that some fans are still disappointed that movie!Louis’s initial grief wasn’t for his Lestat-coded brother and the removal of the scene where Lestat and Louis share a coffin, but I do think those changes are actually quite sensible decisions for the medium for length and for tone.
Anyway, there are about a million other things I could add like how being considered homosexual could ruin an actor’s career back then in the ancient nineties or how the producer David Geffen is gay and Cruise knew that having worked with him before on Risky Business (1983), but I got to go to bed.
The main point of this very long post is that the myth that Tom Cruise had the homoerotic elements of Interview With a Vampire removed or diminished is provably false.
"This is the way I feel about the homoerotic issue: I don't care either way," confesses Cruise. "It's nothing I worry about. I'm an actor and I play a character. I do find it a very sensual movie, because everything that Lestat does he does out of love and longing— yet he's sadistic. Lestat certainly loves Louis. He wants a companion. And Louis is beautiful; Lestat finds him so. But, also, Lestat created this creature that Louis has become, so he is very fatherly about it."
— Tom Cruise on Lestat (src)
#again not to pick on you#but ive been meaning to post something about this#but i never have my sources at my fingertips#I still don’t but i try to add them later#including pdfs of stuff that now appears to be behind paywalls#it’s all saved in a folder called TC though lol#so it might be awhile#vampire chronicles#vc#anne rice#iwtv 1994#tom cruise#tc
