Finding myself wrapped up in moments that unveil the abundance around me, as I take small bites and chew slow through the projects I am nurturing, it kind of sounds a lot easier in words. 〰️ I’d like to know if you too, experience friction when wanting to focus on a personal project, and what helps you pull though it? 〰️ As the shop is coming together, I come apart and together again. I have been learning a lot of what it means for me to focus on something I want. It is very interesting to observe how growing up with a people pleasing mentality can be very changeling an even exhausting to dedicate time to something where the one I am “pleasing”/“helping” is me. I am learning nonetheless to celebrate myself for the little milestones that come with sharing this practice and how it makes me feel. 🦋 〰️ I am narrowing the shop to be ready mid April, this will be a small batch of pieces that I have collected from various semesters of work, more pictures to come this week...maybe even today! 〰️ Always appreciating the support from my friends and family off and online. Welcome to Absolute Gallery to Rhonda Cearlock! Intuition, free flowing creative expression, years in clay, and a bit of surprise is the foundation of my compositions. I begin with hand-built clay tiles and objects that are extruded, slumped, and pressed molded. Various pieces are textured, carved and incised using original clay stamps and found objects. The exciting part for me is assembling; I just let the magic happen instinctively. The size of the finished piece is the only pre-determined factor. Once the personality of the piece is revealed I choose the color palette, and type of paint. I have been working in ceramics for over 30 years. My most recent work is these rich, textured, organic, contemporary pieces. All of my experiences with clay, firing techniques, molds, and textures have come together in these recent works. I begin by playing around with the placement of the various shapes and textures of the elements I’ve created. I get the biggest kick out of never knowing just how the piece will evolve. I just let the energy flow as I assemble each one without a plan. I want the viewer to realize the depths of the pieces as they discover all the hidden elements. In all my years traveling across the country doing art shows I have spent a lot of time seeing the world through the window of the van. The patchwork of the fields, seasons changing, the rising and setting sun, landscapes of all textures and colors are the images and experiences that have inspired this recent work. I see this work continuing to evolve as the world around me and the way I see it, are in a constant state of change. I received my B.A. in Art Education from Eastern IL. The result of learning how to work with digital art programs. Just as photography, digital art programs are a territory which I am mapping as I go.
