Cole has a mild form of pyromania. He’s not an arsonist by any means, but when he was younger he did get in trouble for setting things on fire and giving his parents a scare, and so he went through tons of fire safety training to ensure that at the very least he doesn’t end up getting anyone hurt.

He usually carries around a lighter so that he can start small, controlled fires when he can feel stress building up, because he finds it easier to indulge in small amounts rather than completely denying the urge. If anyone asks why, he’ll lie and say that he’s a smoker because he thinks that’s easier to explain.

oh oh OH. the quiet looks of reserved indignation between natalie and milchick. the mutual understanding of racism, as Lumon's two Black employees, conveyed so subtly and realistically in a few glances. This place is not for them. It will never be for them. the highest honour they as Black Lumon employees can reach is their Black faces photoshopped onto a white man's story. Even the reward for their hard work is a crass false representation that only serves to underscore a white man's power, and remind them they exist to serve that power. Hats off to Sydney Cole Alexander and Tramell Tillman for such fantastic, subtle and moving work in this episode and perfectly portraying the downlow solidarity between Black people and people of colour in predominantly white workplaces.

mmm not to be a solasmancer on main but im thinking about those few days after the Cole debacle if a solavellan Inquisitor encourages him to remain a spirit. just. Solas, watching her fret so much in the aftermath, terrified that she may have taken someone's choice away, worried that she influenced what Cole wanted somehow, watching her sheer relief and unbridled joy after Cole's, free and light and brimming with happy incredulity, "but you didn’t change, didn’t make me change. Thank you". He watches her, and thinks of Mythal. Thinks of devotion, and abuse. Regret. Thinks of Cole, and spirits and Wisdom and Pride- Thinks, wistfully, achingly, "in her hands, I might have been safe".

'Smiling at the templars to show them im me' is such an upsetting line. The only other frame of reference we have for a harrowing is amell/surana and they, after the 'quickest cleanest harrowing' in recent memory, passed the fuck out immediately. That vivienne had enough presence of mind to smile after her harrowing is both a testament to her strength as a mage and also just so horrendously awful, to have gone through such a strenuous and disorienting ordeal and still not be safe!!!! Still unable to stop performing, to lower her guard, still needing to keep her wits about her. True tests never end!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Before he was sent to Hisui, Cole wasn't actually a very good trainer or even particularly interested in Pokémon battles, so he doesn't know why exactly he was the one chosen by Arceus.

It could be that he was chosen because he has good survival skills, since a regular gym-challenging trainer would have a harder time adjusting to a chaotic environment without the regulations imposed by the league, but his personal theory is that there was probably no one else available.

You ever think about how Cole, a literal spirit of compassion, seems to care so much for Solas? Yes, he tries to connect with others and help them as well, but what they have is not the trust and affection he holds for Solas. Cole stands up for Solas on various occasions:

Vivienne: You should not encourage that thing. Cole: Solas is not a thing.

or

Cole: Solas doesn’t want to hurt people! He’s not that kind of wolf!

or

Cole: You didn’t do it to be right. You did it to save them. Inquisitor: Solas, what is he talking about? Solas: A mistake. One of many made by a much younger elf who was certain he knew everything. Cole: You weren’t wrong.

Or how about the fact that after Solas left, Cole went looking for him in the fade out of compassion, and Solas had to tell him to forget?

Cole's entire being is based around a single attribute: compassion. Because of this, he's drawn to a) people with pain for him to heal and b) people who are kind. He can sense that Solas has much hurt to heal, though Solas is able to conceal it from Cole in ways others cannot, but I think he also cares for Solas because he understands who he is at his core. He understands that despite what Solas has done or plans to do, he doesn't want to hurt people. He doesn't care about being right, he cares about helping. In truth, analyzing Cole and Solas's relationship is extremely revealing of who Solas really is. If the spirit of compassion who can read minds and emotions has so much affection for Solas and sees his motivations as coming from a place of goodness, that seems much more honest and true to me than someone making a judgment of him based outward factors.

The more I play inquisition, the more I use Cole as a moral compass. He may not understand the world, but one thing he understands is compassion, and every decision he makes is rooted in love for others. So if Cole cares for Solas and doesn't see him as a monster, then I believe that no matter what he ends up doing, this is proof that Solas is someone worth caring for. Someone with good within him.
