Don't feel like pinning this but I have any sort of energy for writing an About Me so feel like I probably should: 1. Multiply disabled. Multiply neurodivergent. No I don't mean "autism and ADHD". 2. I won't ever bother listing all my disabilities. Whether or not I have a label likely to be relevant to me isn't relevant to anyone besides those closes to me. However, what I'll most likely end up talking about re: disabilities is autism, chronic complex migraines, hEDS, MCAS, or adrenal insufficiency. These interact weirdly. 3. AAC User. Part time manual wheelchair user. Sure wish it was easier to leave my home than it is. Having things I need to help is a huge privilege. 4. Depends on human support. Gives support to others. We're not all either Needing Support or Giving Support. People are complicated.
5. Queer. Trans. My pronouns are they/them. 6. I do yarn things. Yarn holds my brain together. Yarn is how I can focus yarn is how I can keep myself able to do what I want yarn is how I can feel like I belong in my body. It's necessary and the importance of necessity isn't what makes it important. What we do because we want to is important. 7. I have a super cute fluffy cat who is my medical alert cat. He is a task trained service animal. 8. I'm also absolutely gonna be squeeing about the process of getting a service dog since I've literally been wanting a service dog for over 15 years but known I needed life to line up before it'd be right for me. 9. My primary fandoms are Young Wizards and Discworld. 10. Into sci fi, fantasy, ttrpgs, board games, the like
11. Math, math education, teaching disabled students, no really people should be taught, opinionated, unable to be working, miss it so much. 12. Being quite literal when I say I taught introductory abstract algebra to people who were told they were "too disabled" to be ever shown multiplication. Did that at multiple different schools. It's not what I'm most proud of [there's so much more about existing and survival that I'm more proud of] but its one of the best ways to understand who I am.
13. There's things i'm good at. There's things i need help with. Sometimes these are the same things.

It occurs to me that the episode Tuttle is one that only works in those early seasons where the 4077th is made to feel a lot bigger than what we see on screen, that there are all these other doctors who we don’t get to see bc their shifts don’t overlap with Hawkeye and Trapper’s so they don’t see each other all that much. It wouldn’t work in the later episodes where the camp shrinks to exactly 4 doctors and the only characters that we don’t intimately know are most of the nurses and the corpsmen.

Btw - if you want to see if but haven’t gotten around to it, you should go watch it now! It’s continuation is in a precarious state and could use the support.
#trekkie polls#star trek#star trek poll#poll#prodigy#star trek prodigy#my hot take is that out of new trek it best maintains some core trek concepts#i also think they do a great job of bringing in historical trek characters races and ideas while mostly being about new characters and plot#this one is for tuttle did it who made me realize I haven’t done enough prodigy centric polls

I'm 50% into My year of rest and relaxation and the question is: when does this book get provoking/disturbing/interesting/the vehicle of at least a single original or inspired aesthetic effect
#i suppose this author gets more disturbing in her later books? but is there anything about /this/ book that is at all beyond commonplace?#beside the insipid execution -- everything about body image falls short of convincing me it is intended as irony and instead paints an#uncomfortably persistent image of the author as a truly pathetic person -- not a feeling i enjoy at all in any media form#normally a boring book can't affect me -- in this case i'm having such a hard time connecting this author's fame with the actual work#like prose-wise structure-wise image-wise there is nothing here that i can see... A matter of taste for sure. Truly I can't reach it#dr tuttle the only character in this book worth anything to my reader experience. save me dr tuttle#inane post#reading

"Tuttle" is not usually thought of as one of Season One's few Sad Episodes, but if we wanted to, we could stop and think about how Hawkeye tried to bring his childhood imaginary friend to Korea and ended up having to kill him.

Here energy to reformat my About Me so you get my About Me actually added to my pinned (I think this order makes the first shareable easily still idk I hope that's why I went with this order)
1. 3. AAC User. Part time eyegaze user.
I'm gonna get a service dog! I am working with a small organization and between 18 months and 2 years I hope to have a service dog ready to be placed with me, trained to help with a whole bunch of disabilities (we've discussed plans for tasks for chronic migraine, EDS, MCAS, adrenal insufficiency, autism). This will make a big difference for me and I'm super looking forward to it. I am really excited about this even knowing its so far off in the future. Of course this means right now I need to do fundraising 'cause I need to fund the training of my future service dog. Any donations or shares would be super appreciated. As someone living on SSI yet also someone who a service dog would be life changing for navigating making sure that my dog is funded is an unfortunately big stressor in the excitement of future help. Curiosity is getting the best of me, and truly I’d love to hear your opinion on this.
When I dig into horror, macabre, paranormal, terror, or dark themed writing (whether it’s writing or screen adaptations) I always have the same results.
Writers and artists such as yourself, Stephen King, Dean Koontz, etc. are always mentioned. And I mean that with true respect. But, I’m always disappointed that Clive Barker is either rarely mentioned, barely looked at, or never even acknowledged when it comes to horror works. Granted, writers such as yourselves don’t entirely focus on horror.
But, I feel Barker is snubbed or just shrugged off a lot of the time. I still feel he’s not appreciated so much, other than the horror film fan community always giving him praise.
Since you both seemed to be good colleagues (from assumption, which I could be wrong), do you think his works are overlooked?
I mean….his writing is more than just the Hellbound Heart. Or as people reading these fan mail asks would more properly know it by, the horror movie adaptation Hellraiser (1987).
I don't read much any more about horror, which means I have no idea what people are saying these days about Clive or me or Stephen King or Arthur Machen or Robert Aickman or Lisa Tuttle or anybody really.
For me, the six Books of Blood and The Damnation Game were formative literature, and meeting Clive in 1984 when we were both babies was inspiring. I was on set as a journalist when Hellraiser was being shot -- hell, I was on set when Clive Barker's Underworld (1985) was being shot. You can read my interview with Clive from 1988 in the book Clive Barker: Shadows in Eden.

In the vein of mbti cliftonstrength etc, have any thoughts on Carol Tuttle's "Dressing Your Truth" 4 personality types and the corresponding fashion advice? My mother swears by it and the fashion part isn't completely terrible (it's also just like, basic colour and shape theory and I don't think it has any real correlation to personality) but in my experience most of my "Type 3 Secondary 4" traits are just autism symptoms. Idk anything about Carol herself but she's Mormon (as is my mother) so that probably says everything I need to know.
I've never heard of this but I'm going to tell you right now that it sounds dumb

Periodic Comet Swift-Tuttle Image Credit & Copyright: Gerald Rhemann
Explanation: A Halley-type comet with an orbital period of about 133 years, Comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle is recognized as the parent of the annual Perseid Meteor Shower. The comet's last visit to the inner Solar System was in 1992. Then, it did not become easily visible to the naked eye, but it did become bright enough to see from most locations with binoculars and small telescopes. This stunning color image of Swift-Tuttle's greenish coma, long ion tail and dust tail was recorded using film on November 24, 1992. That was about 16 days after the large periodic comet's closest approach to Earth. Comet Swift-Tuttle is expected to next make an impressive appearance in night skies in 2126. Meanwhile, dusty cometary debris left along the orbit of Swift-Tuttle will continue to be swept up creating planet Earth's best-known July and August meteor shower.
