Don't feel like pinning this but I have any sort of energy for writing an About Me so feel like I probably should: 1. Multiply disabled. Multiply neurodivergent. No I don't mean "autism and ADHD". 2. I won't ever bother listing all my disabilities. Whether or not I have a label likely to be relevant to me isn't relevant to anyone besides those closes to me. However, what I'll most likely end up talking about re: disabilities is autism, chronic complex migraines, hEDS, MCAS, or adrenal insufficiency. These interact weirdly. 3. AAC User. Part time manual wheelchair user. Sure wish it was easier to leave my home than it is. Having things I need to help is a huge privilege. 4. Depends on human support. Gives support to others. We're not all either Needing Support or Giving Support. People are complicated.
5. Queer. Trans. My pronouns are they/them. 6. I do yarn things. Yarn holds my brain together. Yarn is how I can focus yarn is how I can keep myself able to do what I want yarn is how I can feel like I belong in my body. It's necessary and the importance of necessity isn't what makes it important. What we do because we want to is important. 7. I have a super cute fluffy cat who is my medical alert cat. He is a task trained service animal. 8. I'm also absolutely gonna be squeeing about the process of getting a service dog since I've literally been wanting a service dog for over 15 years but known I needed life to line up before it'd be right for me. 9. My primary fandoms are Young Wizards and Discworld. 10. Into sci fi, fantasy, ttrpgs, board games, the like
11. Math, math education, teaching disabled students, no really people should be taught, opinionated, unable to be working, miss it so much. 12. Being quite literal when I say I taught introductory abstract algebra to people who were told they were "too disabled" to be ever shown multiplication. Did that at multiple different schools. It's not what I'm most proud of [there's so much more about existing and survival that I'm more proud of] but its one of the best ways to understand who I am.
13. There's things i'm good at. There's things i need help with. Sometimes these are the same things.

Btw - if you want to see if but haven’t gotten around to it, you should go watch it now! It’s continuation is in a precarious state and could use the support.
#trekkie polls#star trek#star trek poll#poll#prodigy#star trek prodigy#my hot take is that out of new trek it best maintains some core trek concepts#i also think they do a great job of bringing in historical trek characters races and ideas while mostly being about new characters and plot#this one is for tuttle did it who made me realize I haven’t done enough prodigy centric polls

It occurs to me that the episode Tuttle is one that only works in those early seasons where the 4077th is made to feel a lot bigger than what we see on screen, that there are all these other doctors who we don’t get to see bc their shifts don’t overlap with Hawkeye and Trapper’s so they don’t see each other all that much. It wouldn’t work in the later episodes where the camp shrinks to exactly 4 doctors and the only characters that we don’t intimately know are most of the nurses and the corpsmen.

there's a right-wing knockoff of Bluey called Chip Chilla. nothing is sacred in this world. Conservatives always complain about cartoons "not being for kids" (read: having LGBTQ+ representation), but Chip Chilla isn't for kids either - it's only for pearl-clutching moral guardians who want to feel good about the shows their children watch.
It's like how that doll line, Lammily, wasn't actually targeted towards kids or doll collectors -- it was only for parents and Buzzfeed bloggers who wanted a "wholesome" alternative to Barbie. Lammily faded into obscurity while Barbie is still going strong, so I don't think we have to worry about Chip Chilla replacing Bluey. Also, Rob Schneider is in it...gross
#bluey#chip chilla#I swear right wing kids shows and books and stuff are ALWAYS cursed as shit without exception#the Tuttle Twins is dollar store Gravity Falls#the BRAVE books series uses otherwise decent artwork and cute animal characters to push political messages that kids aren't interested in#Leo and Layla has GoAnimate-tier animation#and the worst of all: Johnny the Walrus#an absolutely vile excuse for a children's book that is explicitly transphobic#the woman behind libs of tiktok also made a transphobic “kids” book about...teachers giving out candy to kids???#anyways Peppa Pig and Bluey need to team up to defeat Chip Chilla

I'm 50% into My year of rest and relaxation and the question is: when does this book get provoking/disturbing/interesting/the vehicle of at least a single original or inspired aesthetic effect
#i suppose this author gets more disturbing in her later books? but is there anything about /this/ book that is at all beyond commonplace?#beside the insipid execution -- everything about body image falls short of convincing me it is intended as irony and instead paints an#uncomfortably persistent image of the author as a truly pathetic person -- not a feeling i enjoy at all in any media form#normally a boring book can't affect me -- in this case i'm having such a hard time connecting this author's fame with the actual work#like prose-wise structure-wise image-wise there is nothing here that i can see... A matter of taste for sure. Truly I can't reach it#dr tuttle the only character in this book worth anything to my reader experience. save me dr tuttle#inane post#reading

Here energy to reformat my About Me so you get my About Me actually added to my pinned (I think this order makes the first shareable easily still idk I hope that's why I went with this order)
1. 3. AAC User. Part time eyegaze user.
I'm gonna get a service dog! I am working with a small organization and between 18 months and 2 years I hope to have a service dog ready to be placed with me, trained to help with a whole bunch of disabilities (we've discussed plans for tasks for chronic migraine, EDS, MCAS, adrenal insufficiency, autism). This will make a big difference for me and I'm super looking forward to it. I am really excited about this even knowing its so far off in the future. Of course this means right now I need to do fundraising 'cause I need to fund the training of my future service dog. Any donations or shares would be super appreciated. As someone living on SSI yet also someone who a service dog would be life changing for navigating making sure that my dog is funded is an unfortunately big stressor in the excitement of future help. "Tuttle" is not usually thought of as one of Season One's few Sad Episodes, but if we wanted to, we could stop and think about how Hawkeye tried to bring his childhood imaginary friend to Korea and ended up having to kill him.

Curiosity is getting the best of me, and truly I’d love to hear your opinion on this.
When I dig into horror, macabre, paranormal, terror, or dark themed writing (whether it’s writing or screen adaptations) I always have the same results.
Writers and artists such as yourself, Stephen King, Dean Koontz, etc. are always mentioned. And I mean that with true respect. But, I’m always disappointed that Clive Barker is either rarely mentioned, barely looked at, or never even acknowledged when it comes to horror works. Granted, writers such as yourselves don’t entirely focus on horror.
But, I feel Barker is snubbed or just shrugged off a lot of the time. I still feel he’s not appreciated so much, other than the horror film fan community always giving him praise.
Since you both seemed to be good colleagues (from assumption, which I could be wrong), do you think his works are overlooked?
I mean….his writing is more than just the Hellbound Heart. Or as people reading these fan mail asks would more properly know it by, the horror movie adaptation Hellraiser (1987).
I don't read much any more about horror, which means I have no idea what people are saying these days about Clive or me or Stephen King or Arthur Machen or Robert Aickman or Lisa Tuttle or anybody really.
For me, the six Books of Blood and The Damnation Game were formative literature, and meeting Clive in 1984 when we were both babies was inspiring. I was on set as a journalist when Hellraiser was being shot -- hell, I was on set when Clive Barker's Underworld (1985) was being shot. You can read my interview with Clive from 1988 in the book Clive Barker: Shadows in Eden.

Periodic Comet Swift-Tuttle Image Credit & Copyright: Gerald Rhemann
Explanation: A Halley-type comet with an orbital period of about 133 years, Comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle is recognized as the parent of the annual Perseid Meteor Shower. The comet's last visit to the inner Solar System was in 1992. Then, it did not become easily visible to the naked eye, but it did become bright enough to see from most locations with binoculars and small telescopes. This stunning color image of Swift-Tuttle's greenish coma, long ion tail and dust tail was recorded using film on November 24, 1992. That was about 16 days after the large periodic comet's closest approach to Earth. Comet Swift-Tuttle is expected to next make an impressive appearance in night skies in 2126. Meanwhile, dusty cometary debris left along the orbit of Swift-Tuttle will continue to be swept up creating planet Earth's best-known July and August meteor shower.

So to begin with there’s a lot of merit to “water is wet” type studies, which is that researching things that “seem obvious” is good for documenting stuff that might otherwise not be provable or useful later on when the “obviousness” has been lost to time.
Remember how no one knew how to make ancient concrete because it was “so obvious” that it was mixed with sea water it wasn’t worth writing down? Yeah, always write everything down. In triplicate or more so.
But also this isn’t just some big own to the maga cult
This is like… an actual serious and real issue. Trump is quite literally a BITE model cult leader and he is preying on the underprivileged, and the poor (as well as the abused) to lead his cult.
Am I saying all maga enthusiasts are poor little babies who can’t help themselves? No. Obviously I’m not. Also this doesn’t apply to all of trumps followers either, a LARGE percentage of them are actually very smart and very wealthy and they know that Trump is going to cater to the very wealthy elites.
But this isn’t about them.
This is about your great grandma who wasn’t able to finish school past 5th grade because she had to get married to someone 4 times her age and she was pregnant by the time she was 12. She isn’t really into politics and doesn’t understand most of what they’re saying when it comes to legal jargon, but her pastor tells her that Trump is an honest good hearted man, and she guesses that she doesn’t need to know much else.
This is about your paranoid and delusional uncle who had to take time off school to go to a mental hospital but he never really got better because mental hospitals are underfunded and oftentimes corrupt and he fell down a rabbit hole where he got redpilled so hard he doesn’t know which way is up and the maga cult has convinced him that he’s “more fun at parties when he doesn’t take those liberal pills.” He needs help, genuine professional help, but he’s stuck in a position where the only possible opportunity he has is to get worse.
This is about your mom, who does know it’s wrong, who is put on edge by trumps chauvinism and doesn’t really thing anything is wrong with a book about gay penguins, but the ever growing array of bruises on her arms, the black eyes and broken noses that she hides with sunglasses, the words “you shall not tell a lie” and “you must obey your husband” has her terrified that Susie May at the local polling station will be a Nosy Nancy and word will get back to your dad.
I’m not saying we should coddle people and absolve them of their crime, far from it.
But, in the words of Kamala herself, we exist in the context of what came before us.
It is absolutely ridiculous to pretend that Trumpism isn’t a failing of society as a whole.
People slipped through the cracks, communities have let the mentally unwell go without help, not having different options for education (we all know public schools have the potential to be fucked up beyond belief but it’s all anyone can afford
We can’t just say “haha you’re stupid!” And pretend like this isn’t a reflection of our society and the way it works. We can’t pretend that this isn’t incredibly sad. Or that it wasn’t intentional.
A lot of otherwise good people who are broken, beaten down, uneducated, and or don’t know how to deal with their emotions are following Trump because they are angry and they want their lives to change. They’re quite literally in a cult. They’re scared, paranoid, they’ve been lied to and controlled and manipulated. Many, many maga cult members are well and truly brainwashed and genuinely wouldn’t be making the decisions they’re making if they received the help and care they need.
Yes they’re are absolutely still the “leopards eating my face” club.
No I’m not saying that they should be allowed to get away with the shit they get away with, they’re doing horrible things and voting for horrible people who do horrible things.
But we have got to be more aware and more vocal about the fact that they’re in a dangerous and deeply harmful cult.
The first step to leaving a cult is understanding that you’re directly being hurt by said cult.
Most people who are trapped in cults don’t even realise they’re in a cult.
If we were able to raise enough money for your granddad to retire happily from his predatory 5 days a week 12 hour shifts at Walmart where he gets screamed at all day, little to no break, and isn’t allowed to sit down, he’d probably be way less likely to vote for Trump.
If your mom was able to get out of the harmful and abusive environment she’s grown up with and have breathing room, without being monitored 24/7, she probably wouldn’t vote for Trump.
The good ole southern boy just turned 18 who’s been in the closet ever since his daddy beat him for wearing his mom’s lipstick when he was 5 probably wouldn’t vote for Trump if he had the means of getting away from his parents but his dad’s the football coach and the history teacher and their underfunded home town public school had Trump merch hanging up in every other classroom, and the homework assignment come November is to tell everyone who you voted for and why.
My point is just that when Trump finally dies there will be a lot of people who will suddenly and without warning just… return to normal. It will literally be very weird for anyone with Trump supporting loved ones.
I’ve sat down and talked to my mom at length about why she wants to vote for Trump, when he’s so much like all the men in her life who’ve done nothing but abuse her.
She flat out said that he’s like her dad, and she said that her dad would have voted for him despite being a democrat.
Her dad physically, emotionally and sexually abused her, her older sister, her younger brothers as well as her mom, starting when she was as young as 3 and continuing for 5 years or more.
She wants her dad (who was abusive and has been dead for years) to be proud of her. To love her like he was meant to.
It’s genuinely a sickness.
I’m not saying that you have to play nicely with Trump supporters or anything.
Like, fuck that, go curb stomp nazis, call them weird and make fun of them if they’re being assholes to you or other people. It works.
But if you’ve ever met someone who’s an absolute sweetheart and wondered why or how seemingly nice people could be persuaded by the worst of the worst?
It’s because it’s a cult. Cults prey on uneducated people and that is not an own, that is a condemnation of society.
We owe it to our children, our friends, our families, our neighbours, to make sure that going forward people are far less desperate.
Check in on your loved ones, try to get the elderly or the mentally unwell people in your life out of the house and doing hobbies other than watching Fox News. Be a friend to the lost looking teens who have nowhere to go and nothing to do but be yelled at by their parents.
#us politics#republicans are generally awful but nobody starts out awful#and everyone has the chance to change how awful they are#in the words of Merlin Tuttle; Win Friends Not Battles#I’m not saying go up to some gun toting swastika wearing jerk and be super nice#I’m saying call your mom and talk about something other than politics#when your grandma says something homophobic invite her to Pride#it may not work and this isn’t really a job for teens still living with their family tbh#but for those of us who don’t rely on our family members anymore#we can try to help them get out there and remind them that there’s life beyond the redpilled bs they’ve been fed#remember a lot of maga became shut ins in 2020 and they devolved into conspiracy theorists#getting them outside and around people can genuinely be so beneficial
