Dilruba by Kailash Kher is the kind of song that feels like it's an outtake from Dil Se (1997) and i can't explain that to you in any way that will make rational sense atm

Drawing original characters in the style of the studio "Bones" is still a favorite activity!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I want to tell you a little about their quirks!
Ikehara Kasikomi: Flock of birds.
Her quirk allows her body to turn into a flock of black birds, consisting, like her body, of a dark substance. She needs to focus to change her body! Quirk gives her high mobility!
The size of the flock of birds she can turn into is directly proportional to her weight. She can turn into 28 birds, larger than the average raven. She is vulnerable to fire and feels worse in the dark because she loses control of her body.
A very thoughtful and freedom-loving girl.
Hyono Kanae: Evil Eye.
His quirk is similar to Aizawa's quirk, but it works a little differently: to disable someone else's quirk or technique, he needs to know how quirk or technique works.
For example: to disable Bakugo's "Explosion", he needs to know two things, that the quirk works through the palms, and sweat containing nitroglycerin. In this case, he will have two ways, softer and more cruel: turn off sweating, or turn off hands. (I mean, hands literally won't work: they'll go numb or something like that)
The difference between his quirk and quirk is the time limit for disconnection (about 7 minutes) and it is possible to subordinate up to 3 goals.
He's a damn nerd with a bitchy personality!
Segata Moina: Whiplash Hair.
It's a fairly simple quirk in terms of how it works. Her hair is capable of lengthening into whips controlled by her. For herself, she chose the most comfortable shape: wide dreadlocks, which is quite convenient to put in a ponytail.
The hair is long by itself, but the quirk has both a minus and a limit. She cannot "shorten" her hair, and accordingly, each time the regrown hair has to be cut off manually. There are two limits: the length of the grown hair at a time and the duration. She can grow her hair up to 20 meters at a time, which gives her the opportunity to simultaneously influence objects at a long distance, but at the same time she loses control. The time depends on her diet and sleep.
A very cheerful and bright girl!

Something pisses me off about the fact that many good things were either created by bad people or bad corporations… Hello, many of my favorite cartoons are from Disney and that hurts even more… True, I always watched them by pirating (Because TV there is one in my apartment, or rather one that is used, and I don't have Disney+ or Netflix, you know what I mean), but it's still depressing
I stopped playing the Sims (although the gameplays on YT are not still released because I recorded them en masse, so you understand) because I found out that EA cooperates with a company that supports Israel (Same as Inzoi, but I never got into it anyway I'll play because, you know, the laptop would explode)
But seriously, there's nothing more depressing than thinking that something that helped you suddenly turns out to be created by bigots or the like…

Rings of Power | Galadriel x Halbrand
Notes: I took liberties with Tolkien lore regarding weather, seasons and how the elves might celebrate yule, among other things. I also used a translator for the single elvish line Halbrand says in this fic. It might be incorrect and if so, please let me know what the correct translation is.
***
Do you just want my blood? Am I just that damn hard to love?
Tumblr media
Lindon was a mystery to Halbrand. As winter approached, Galadriel had encouraged him to travel with her to the elvish realm and at first, he had thought it was for no particular reason but it quickly became apparent that she had dealings with the High King Gil-galad and his Herald Elrond. This left Halbrand wishing he’d stayed behind in Eregion; at least there he could continue his work with Celebrimbor.
Lacking the ethereal grace of its residents, Halbrand felt distinctly other in Lindon - where they were graceful, he was wooden and where they retained stillness, he was cumbersome. He did his best to lean into his perceived mortality, ensuring they believed him to be merely Galadriel's human companion. It wouldn’t do for them to learn that he knew much more about them than he let on, including his fluency in every single one of their languages.
“Walk with me,” Galadriel whispered to him where they sat together at a dinner held during the yule festivities. Halbrand glanced towards the table’s head where the king and his herald sat together in deep conversation, before setting his fork down beside his empty wine glass. The moment he stood, Gil-galad broke his attention from Elrond and glared towards the pair but Halbrand ignored him, the powdery snow beneath his booted feet sending ungraceful drifts in his wake as he followed Galadriel beyond the line of trees that sheltered the revelry.
***
They walked side by side along a path lit by bronze-plated, glass lanterns, their design delicate and refined.
“They are from Valinor,” Galadriel said when Halbrand slowed his steps to admire them more closely.
“Of course they are,” he sighed. “Isn’t everything?”
Galadriel inclined her head, the hood of her dark blue cloak slipping down to her shoulders. “Most things in Lindon are, yes.”
Halbrand’s attention moved from the lanterns to the elf, he couldn’t help noticing the way her hair shimmered in the low light - gold and shiver, as though the strands were entwined with any otherworldly alloy.
They continued walking in companionable silence until the lanterns became few and far between and the wood became darker with every step. Before long, they walked into a grove of holly trees, their deep red berries gleaming like jewels among the thorny, green leaves dusted with snow. The sight of them sparked something in Halbrand. He had collected memories like trinkets from the many forms he had taken over the long years. So many that it was difficult to pin them down, to discern the time and place they were from. The memory that rose from the holly trees was one of snow and ice, a wooden floor covered in furs close to a fire that smelled of burnt sugar and cedar. He vaguely recalled dark eyes that shone brightly, reflecting the orange flames and naked flesh burning with desire...
It came to Halbrand fast and hot and a blush stained his cheeks, forcing him to sink deeper into his fur-lined cloak.
“I cannot say I have ever seen such a visceral reaction to holly before,” Galadriel said, a wry tilt to her mouth.
“I don’t know what you mean.” Halbrand croaked the words then coughed.
“It’s just holly.” He broke a sprig off and held it in a loose, ungloved fist.
Galadriel raised a golden eyebrow at him, “I see.”
“I have a gift for you!” He said suddenly, reaching inside his cloak with his free hand.
“A gift? So you are familiar with some elvish customs then?”
“Ni am moina as tare than tye sinte, mime mel,” Halbrand replied in perfect Quenyan.
I am familiar with more than you know, my love.
Galadriel stared at him agape. “Where? When did you learn–”
“Here,” Halbrand held out a small wooden box tied with blue ribbon.
It was Galadriel’s turn to blush as she accepted the offering.
“Do you remember when you teased me about the mithril back in Eregion?” Halbrand asked, stepping closer to the elf as she lifted the contents of the box onto her gloved hand
“You said: will you make me a little replica raft, Halbrand? Or perhaps a golden ring?”
On Galadriel’s hand sat a little gold bell. “Halbrand, I am not certain that I understand.”
Halbrand picked up the bell and rang it. It was a delicate sound, as soft as falling snow yet sharp enough to be heard above the wind that was gathering high in the trees above them.
“This is your golden ring for a golden age.”
Galadriel removed a glove and gripped the bell between two pale fingers. “I suspect you are trying to be amusing, Halbrand.”
Halbrand chuckled. “Your suspicions would be correct.”
“Such a peculiar mortal.” She smirked a little, pocketing the bell and withdrawing a drawstring pouch.
“Here is my gift to you.”
Halbrand inclined his head in thanks and slid his fingers inside the pouch. What he pulled out was so unexpected that he nearly dropped it in the snow. It was a steel S hook, similar to what many tradespeople used to hang things on, blacksmiths included. However, this S hook was small and ornate with an elvish design etched into one side. It was delicate and far too beautiful to spend its existence in a dirty workshop.
Halbrand stared at it with a mixture of confusion and wonder. What did it mean that she was giving him this? Was he missing something? The S shape seemed to burn his palm as he held it…
S for Safety
S for Salvation
S for Sau…
Halbrand’s gaze whipped up to meet Galadriel’s. He searched for any sign of knowing, of recognition but she was glaring at him the same way she usually did.
“Galadriel, I–”
The elf grabbed the front of his cloak and pulled him towards her. Their lips crashed together with such force that he was sure he’d chipped a tooth but he didn’t care. Both hook and holly fell to the snow as he grasped Galadriel’s face in his hands, kissing her with a depth and purpose he couldn’t recall ever doing before. When he slid his tongue inside her mouth she moaned, pressing herself against the Southlander with every ounce of her immortal strength. They kissed as though their lives depended on it. Just like their lives had depended on each other on the raft. Neither of them would have ever admitted it but they had needed each other to survive then, and the same was true as they clung to each other now, the need to get closer as chaotic and strong as a storm upon the Sundering Seas.
The kiss softened for a moment as Galadriel’s hand caught in Halbrand’s hair, tugging until his head tipped back. He felt her breath hot on his neck and where he expected her lips to touch he felt words brush across the sensitive skin:
“You may refuse to be completely honest, Halbrand. But your secrets will be known to me with time.”
His eyes flew open, his breath catching between a whimper and a sob.
Then she was gone, her tracks in the snow already fading beneath fresh flurries.
“Do you want my blood, Galadriel? Am I just that damn hard to love?” He called after her, flushed and panting.
S for Secrets.
Stooping to pick up the S hook, Halbrand swore he heard the distant, hollow ringing of a single bell.

something cool about the deities in tcol is that they have names derived from them that terraneans use sometimes. an example is kiba, who’s name is a derivative of the god of harvest, KIBARUM.
so that being said, here are some ocs in tcol who’s names come from deity names:
from MUINENS: miona, moira, muinena
from IIARAN: illiana, aran
from goodest boy Lath: luther
from IISIDIA: sid
from MIZDARR: daran
from EFFE: efelia
but there are more names that i’ve decided come from them that i just haven’t gotten around to using yet. so, in general so far some “common names” that come from deities:
m = masculine, f = feminine, gn = unisex
IIARAN: aran (m), illian (m) or illiana (f), ira (gn)
IISIDIA: sid (m), sia (f), sidia (f)
MIZDARR: miz (gn), dara (gn), daran (m)
MUINENS: muinena (f), nen or nena (gn), ina (f), inen (gn), moira or moina / miora or miona (f), mion (gn)
MIRANKA: mira (f), miran (m), ran (gn), ranka (gn)
YUTARA: yuta (gn), yu (gn), tara (f), taran (gn), tayu (m), yura (f)
YLENE: len (m), lene (f)
KIBARUM: kiba (m), kibaru (m), kibar (m)
KOST: koss (gn)
MARTH: mars (gn), art or arth or arty/artie (gn), mat (m)
BRULENE: bruno (gn), bree (f)
THE LADY OF THE MISTS: (based on her mortal name): ella (f), pine (m), nell (m) or nella (f),
EFFE: efelia (f)
the reason there’s so many derivatives is because it’s considered disrespectful to give someone the same name as someone else; they aren’t their own person that way. so even among family if you want to name someone in honor of someone a diminutive is usually taken.
for instance, let’s say you wanted to name your first child after your husband, jagoda (an actual character btw). you wouldn’t name your child “jagoda” you’d come up with a name derived from. so your child would probably be jag or daj or goda or dago or something like that :3

As someone that's interested in getting into Indian cinema, completely blind to this, what would you recommend? I'm pretty open minded, tragedy, comedy, drama or war stories.
Nice! I recommend "Dil Se" (From the heart) starring Shah Rukh Khan, our very own Shax Lied! Because he's willing to go to any extent to win his love, no other actor in Indian cinema can rival him when it comes to romantic pursuits, in my opinion. It also has war and terrorism themes. The lady he falls in love with is Moina (Manisha Koirala). She's a terrorist and he had no idea. He pursues her, even after getting beaten up by her comrades and finally he learns what she's up to, his family arranged his marriage with another girl and even then he did not betray her. It has all the themes you mentioned - tragedy, comedy, war and along with that love and adventure.
Tumblr media
All Indian movies have songs in them. These are Stills from the songs in Dil se, they're all super hit. You could try watching the songs before getting into the film. First one is "chaiyya chaiyya", where the protagonist dances on top of a moving train with a hot dancer, so be warned, in most of our movies a succubi kind of dancer is present. It's to attract more audience to watch the film. Second one is about his love for the girl and the song is called "Dil se re". Third song is the imagination of the girl with whom his marriage was fixed. The song is "Jiya Jale" one of the greatest Indian songs,(and I'm learning how to play it on my flute ). Fourth one is "saat rangi re" or one with seven colours. Since you are also a mairuma fan, I should say, when I hear this song all i could think of is wicked phase Irumi when the lines "Ishq par zor nahi" are sung. The whole song has an other worldly vibe.
One of our movies in which our culture is depicted through language, songs and costumes and I hope that you will like it 😊🥰

My first planted tank is about 6 months old now and I think Ive finally got the whole ecosystem in balance! The plants have got the nitrates consistently at nil, plus theres a permanent population of Moina and Fairy shrimp living in the grass and floating plants which feed on the rotifera I introduced. Its almost completely self-sustaining!

Libya dam collapse: Engineering expert raises questions about management
Tumblr media
- By Nadhir Al-Ansari , Luleå University of Technology , The Conversation -
More than 11,000 people have been killed and tens of thousands are missing following the catastrophic collapse of two dams in the eastern Libyan city of Derna.
The dam collapse came after an extreme storm, Storm Daniel, slammed into the north African country. The Conversation Africa’s Moina Spooner asked water resources and engineering expert Nadhir Al-Ansari, who has researched the design and safety of dams, to provide insights into the disaster.
How does extreme weather affect the stability of dams?
Dams are usually built to withstand heavy rainfall or drought. The design and construction of a dam takes into consideration all possible effects. All factors, including the type of building materials, the design of the foundation and the stability of a dam, as well as expected floods and earthquakes and even military action, are taken into consideration when planning a dam.
Aside from how the dam is constructed, there should be safety provisions in place. For instance, in cases of storms, the engineers should release the water to ensure that a dam’s maximum carrying capacity is not exceeded.
In the Libyan case, I believe that the management of the dams was not good. The engineer responsible for the dam should have made sure the water did not exceed the dam’s upper carrying capacity. When he noticed that a huge volume of water was entering the reservoir he should have released large quantities of water to keep its level lower than the upper limit.
Research shows that the main causes of dam failure are foundation problems (40%), inadequate spillway (23%), poor construction (12%) and uneven settlement (10%). A site for a dam will not always be level because dams are built in mountain areas, but the designers must take that into consideration. The dam design must suit the topography. Among the rarer causes of dam failures are acts of war (3%), defective material (2%) and earthquakes (1%).
In Libya’s case, bad management appears to have been the cause of the dam’s collapse.
Could this tragedy have been avoided?
Yes, if the responsible people operating the dams had opened the gates to release water. When those responsible for the water management of the dam ignore heavy rainfall then one can expect such disasters to occur.
Dam managers should also know each dam’s catchment area and how much rainfall is forecast. This requires coordination between meteorologists and the staff responsible for the management of dams. When heavy rainfall is expected, the meteorology department should inform dam managers who can then make arrangements for the release of water to keep it within the dam’s operational limits. This is the usual practice in all the dams I’ve studied in Iraq.
In this case, there must have been a breakdown in communication between meteorological department and engineers managing the dams.
How do engineers and authorities typically monitor the structural integrity of dams?
Dams should have a regular inspection programme that takes into consideration all parts of the dam. All countries with dams, whether in the US, Iraq or Sweden, have regular inspections. There should be instruments for monitoring cracks in a dam’s walls and any changes in its structure. Once identified, they must be attended to immediately.
In Libya’s case, if they had opened the sluice gates to keep water within the dam’s carrying capacity, the collapse of the dams would have caused less damage.
Are there emerging technologies or innovations to improve safety?
There are a number of models and techniques and each dam has its own model or technique that the designer suggests. Planning for extreme weather events is usually done at the design stage of the dam. The designer is meant to give a thorough report on the stability of the dam against various factors, including weather.
Different scenarios are given according to the water level in the reservoir of the dam to prevent dam failure. The government concerned should know what to do in case of dam failure, guided by the design information. For instance, in my study of Iraq’s Mosul dam, which took place after the dam was constructed, I suggested that a protection dam be built downstream to secure the safety of the downstream area and its population. Safety steps can be taken even after construction of the dam.
The other safety measures relate to housing and other developments in areas downstream. In Libya’s case, there was poor planning. The areas downstream from the dams should not have been used for housing.
Ultimately, the dam failure in Libya could have been prevented, or at least the losses could have been minimised, if the engineers on site had released the water from the reservoir once the storm started.

Curral de Moinas, Os Banqueiros do Povo
P, 2022
Miguel Cadilhe
6/10
Between Cascais and Curral de Moinas
The duo João Paulo Rodrigues and Pedro Alves, better known as Quim Roscas and Zeca Estacionâncio, emerged as a successful television phenomenon, with amusing short stories evocative of rurality in the Portuguese north, on a morning talk show.
From this success were born two television series, Telerural and Portugal Tal & Qual, as well as two feature films, Sete Pecados Rurais, in 2013, and this Banqueiros do Povo, in 2022.
Always with arguments by Henrique Cardoso Dias and Frederico Pombares, the humor of the duo Roscas and Estacionâncio does not excel in sophistication. It is a popular parody of what is most simple and provincial about Portugal, which has always been the key to success.
It is in this same line that this Banqueiros do Povo appears, which brings nothing new, but which is nonetheless funny and fully corresponds to the expectations of fans of the genre.
Perhaps the best joke in the film is to see TV presenter Júlia Pinheiro playing the duo's peasant godmother.
