Robin’s Past Exes Because Why Not

-Alexa: Would you call it dating if it’s the third grade? She asked him out and they dated for fun, and maybe lasted a couple weeks, tops. Robin does not know her last name or current whereabouts. He has no particular feelings about this one, except as a funny story when it comes up. (No fc for this one, I’ll say she had orange-red hair. Robin probably wouldn’t recognize her if he saw her). Featured in ‘The Breakups: Part 1/4′

-Rocko McGinley: Robin’s first boyfriend, and the boy Robin dumped by saying “it’s not you, it’s me.” Last he heard from Facebook, Rocko was owning and operating an auto parts store. As a sidenote, Rocko was not Robin’s gay awakening; it happened before this. Robin thought he was cute and funny, but never had any actual feelings for him. (fc: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRyhNNse/). -Harley Reynolds: Robin’s first boyfriend in high school, and the first boy Robin “did things with.” They dated for about a month and a half wherein Robin broke it off because Harley told him that he thought Ryder was cuter, and also for a list of various other reasons. Harley was never very nice to him. Robin was more than a little offended when Harley admitted he was into Ryder more, but he was also actively looking for reasons to dump him at that point. Robin is not friends with him on any social media and has no real idea what he’s doing nowadays. College somewhere, probably? (fc: Park Min-Hyuk or “Rocky”) Featured in ‘The Breakups: Part 3/4′

-Theo Seong: Robin thought he had a very handsome face, was extremely cool, and liked the guitar thing, and so he decided to ask him out. They got along well for a while, but eventually other things got in the way: Robin’s training, Theo leaving to become a full-fledged musician, and neither of them prioritized their relationship over their future goals, and so they decided to break it off. They continued to be friends throughout high school and after, though, but they faded off with contact when Theo left. They’ve since become friends again after Theo became a Prosperity crew member. (fc: Hwang In-Yeop (also Sarah’s lovely boy thank you Sarah))

-Salem Ilmari: March 2022, Robin had a hookup with a beautiful vanneer at a bar on Marloken. Shortly thereafter, that same vanneer applied and was accepted as the official navigator aboard the Prosperity. Robin had a lot of denial surrounding his feelings about Salem, and that manifested in being an asshole to him. After some difficult conversations and a lot of introspection, Robin realized his feelings for him and they got together. There were issues out of the gate. Robin has problems with long-term attachment, in that he feels he can’t have any, and this left Salem unsure about their relationship. In return, Robin had a difficult time sharing anything with Salem, because of the hot and cold way that he would react to any information. This eventually led to a heated and nasty breakup, followed by Salem almost immediately packing up and leaving the ship. Robin feels very bitter about this relationship. WAND CORES, WOODS & LENGTHS (wandless magic)

GUMIHO TAIL HAIR: similar to unicorn tail hair, gumiho tail hair generally produces the most consistent magic, and is least subject to fluctuations and blockages. wands made with gumiho tail hair are generally the most difficult to turn to the dark arts and are the most faithful: they usually remain strongly attached to their first owner, irrespective of whether they were an accomplished witch or wizard. unfortunately, they do not make the most powerful wands (although the wand wood may compensate). they are also prone to melancholy if seriously mishandled (meaning that the hair may 'die' and need replacing).

IMUGI HEARTSTRING: similar to dragon heartstrings, imugi heartstrings produce wands with the most power. imugi wands can produce the most flamboyant of spells as well as tend to learn more quickly than other types. while they can change allegiance if won from their original master, they always bond strongly with the current owner. imugi wands tend to be easiest to turn to the dark arts, though it will not incline that way of its own accord. it is also the most accident-prone of the three cores and is somewhat temperamental.

SAMJOGO FEATHER: similar to phoenix feathers, samjogo feathers are the rarest core type. they are capable of the greatest range of magic, though they may take longer than either gumiho or imugi cores to reveal this. they show the most initiative (sometimes acting of their own accord), a quality that many witches and wizards dislike. samjogo wands are always the pickiest when it comes to potential owners, for the creature from which they are taken is one of the most powerful in the world. these wands are the hardest to tame/gain allegiance of as well as personalise.

note: i did take inspiration from this site and these beautiful posts (before adding my own lore/research) to expand on all ELEVEN wizarding schools (i am however, not sorry for stealing JK’s work bc that’s what she deserves for having god awful POC representation and being a terf). also warning, the following section is quite in depth; but you don't have to remember any of it to read the story (just thought it would be useful to refer back to as a reference for anyone interested).

수마산들 — korean wizarding college !

수마산들, otherwise known as Sumasandeul Institute of Trickery and Technology (S.I.T) is one of the eleven wizarding schools of the world. Located in South Korea, S.I.T spans three campuses as schooling lasts from age 7 to 21 and accepts students from all over the continent and of all magical backgrounds. The school’s name comes from the words 수도회 (sudohoe), meaning ‘order’, 마법 (mabeob), meaning ‘magic’, and 산들 (sandeul), meaning ‘mountains’, giving it a loose translation of “the mountains of magic and order”. Originally, the institute was established within an abandoned village in the shielded recesses of the volcano, Hallasan (the tallest mountain in South Korea that now houses senior students, aged 19-21). But as the school began to expand, the college had developed a magical means of connecting the mountains, Jirisan (houses junior students, aged 13-19) and Seoraksan (houses primary students, aged 7-13) respectively.

The school was founded during the height of the Joseon Dynasty, in the Kingdom of Tamna (Jeju Island). The founders of the school were four true (full-blooded and noble) witches hailing from the surrounding kingdoms; Gim Yeongho, Bae Jeongsuk, Sil Eunji, and Na Seohyun. The four houses are named after their respective founders, but most students nowadays call them by their representative colour and/or crests (patronuses):

YEONGHO 영호 / BBALGAN 빨간, red; monkey.

JEONGSUK 정석 / NORAN 노란, yellow; axolotl.

EUNJI 은지 / PARAN 파란, blue; elk.

SEOHYUN 서현 / CHOROK 초록, green; wolf.

Through learning and communicating with foreign wizarding missionaries, the founders wished to pass their knowledge on to all young magic wielders that were under servitude or in danger (the four witches were famous for saving the oppressed kingdoms from obscurial children that could have killed or been killed). Pure wizarding families are still regarded highly in both magical and non-magical communities, often taking part in royal courts.

Sumasandeul (given its isolation in the mountains) had been fed by its own crops (attended to by its students) and was a self-sustaining village of its own until the early 12th century, when a connection between the economic and social Wizarding World was established. Still to this day, students at the school use the areas once used to grow foods to instead grow rare herbs and ingredients for potions.

Although the institute hosts its pupils in a rather traditional environment of temples, palaces and pavilions— the student population has integrated technology so impressively into their learning that S.I.T has become one of the most technologically-advanced schools of this generation. The campus also boasts many gardens and a lotus-filled lake.

After the Joseon Era ended and the Japanese took over, Sumasandeul was closed to preserve itself (though this is how the school would eventually pick up Quidditch as well as other western influences) and didn't reopen till the 1940s. During the war between North and South Korea from 1950-1953, parts of Sumasandeul were destroyed in a Wizarding War that took place at the same time. But as a majority of the Wizarding World sided with the south, the school was quickly rebuilt— expanding architecturally and multiculturally. Most textbooks used at S.I.T are translated from well-known texts, and it has since become a necessity to have some foreign staff attending the institute.

SUMASANDEUL GHOSTS

The four house ghosts are patrons/figures from Sumasandeul's past and usually only linger in the oldest buildings of each respective campus. They serve as a representative as well as an additional messenger or guide to those who are still unfamiliar with the college.

RED HOUSE: THE DEATHLY SCHOLAR

"Would you like to read my poem? It’s what you students would consider fresh.”

Gim Yeongho was the daughter of Gim Seonho; otherwise known as Sir Gim or the "Deathly Scholar". He was a close advisor to the king but was killed by a dark wizard before he could witness his daughter build one of the greatest institutions in the kingdom (if not the world). Even though he knows he is dead, he refuses to accept it. He is often found sword fighting with students or sitting atop the school’s entrances fanning himself as he quotes classical or otherwise humorous poetry. He is quite vain for his age, but would be a hit with the girls if he wasn't dead. Though he is respectful to all, it isn't a secret that he likes Yeongho students best.

YELLOW HOUSE: THE WEEPING BEAUTY

"I think I would miss this place most, which is probably why I'm still here. I’ve never felt safer than within this courtyard."

Mun Jang Geum, also known as the "Weeping Beauty", was a well-respected student. She was known for her beauty, loyalty and love for nature. Unfortunately, she was suffocated in her sleep by her rival and was accused of casting spells on the men who visited her as well as growing strange plants in the school gardens. Now, she is known for her teary eyes and timid aura. Despite being an overall friendly character, many students avoid her due to her sudden outbursts of gasping for air.

BLUE HOUSE: THE LADY OF THE LAKE

"I don't remember much. Just the water, and the dark and— have you finished studying for your OWLS yet?"

Hwajung or the "Lady of the Lake'' was the daughter of a headmaster at Sumasandeul. Sadly, she can’t remember who; so she has no family name. She vaguely recalls an Obliviate charm being cast on her before drowning in the school's lake. Her spirit returned to the school to watch over the students and protect them from the same fate; even if she as well as the rest of the wizarding community don't remember much of who she is or how she died. She is known for her soaking wet attire and constant shivering.

GREEN HOUSE: THE BLOODY SERPENT

"I no longer have any interest in the secrets my death holds— but I'm sure you'll eventually come to know them yourself."

Yun Si Yeol, or Lord Yun was deemed the "Bloody Serpent" due to his wine-red, knee-length hair; forked tongue and obsessive compulsion to pace the school hallways back and forth. He is odd, cold and therefore often a very unapproachable figure; however, he is known for leaving study tips and hints for students having a tough time. He is an intelligent, well-spoken ghost; however will avoid answering questions about his appearance, habits and death.

COMPULSORY SUBJECTS

S.I.T enforces students to take six subjects each term (four terms in a year) and finish at least two units (depending on the subject, one unit can be equal to a month or a term's worth of work) before applying for a new subject.

Students need to complete at least four units from six subjects they’ve undergone (24 units in total) in order to take the OWLs or NEWTs during their final years (ages 12, 18 and 21 respectively) before graduating.

For primary students, the following eight subjects (four subjects for each half of the year) must be passed before they turn thirteen. Students can also continue to study/specialise in these subjects if they so choose. Children that are ‘less’ magically inclined may still take these subjects (as a form of study) but can choose to take alternate tutorials for their specific circumstances instead (ie. squibs may take less ‘practical’ classes taught by squibs themselves; shapeshifters undergo training camps to master their abilities, etc).

Abjuration (aka Defence Against The Dark Arts, school of magic focused on protective spells, as well as spells that cancel or interfere with other spells, magical effects or supernatural abilities)

As of recent years, S.I.T and the Ministry of Magic have decided to limit certain (dangerous and often extremely difficult) subjects, not only in terms of age (from 17 onwards) but in student numbers. Only the most gifted and competent of students have access to/are permitted to study these subjects in order to prevent such knowledge from falling into the wrong hands.

Compulsion (aka legilimency/occlumency, school of magic focused on acquiring and revealing information as well as affecting "the minds of others" including "influencing or controlling their behavior")

Conjuration (school of magic focused on instantaneous transportation such as apparition and portkey creation, summoning manifestations of creatures, energy or objects, as well as creation via material sacrifice)

Invocation (school of magic focused on "creating matter and energy, called up out of nothing"; damage spells and very powerful “wishes” included)

Necromancy (school of magic that involves death, undeath, and the manipulation of light and dark energy by drawing power from the life force of the environment (living plants and creatures) or alternate planes)

Dunamancy (school of magic that involves the manipulation of entropy, gravity, and time by drawing on the power from alternate timelines/unseen realities)

WIZARDING WORLD — south korea !

ARCANE & DIVINE ORIGINS

The Lifestream (also known as The Force or The Weave) is the source of both arcane and divine spellcasting; it is a spiritual entity (often referred to as female), force as well as substance fabricated from the purest, wildest and most powerful elven magic. The Lifestream works to protect the world from the dangers of dark magic by giving humans the ability to utilise a small fraction of its power. Destroying the Lifestream would result in widespread destruction; for all worlds, planes and realities. Reckless use of magic can also damage the Lifestream; creating areas of dark, dead or wild magic where regular spellcasting doesn't work. In ancient times, "spellcasters were arcanists that did not memorise spells— but merely plucked them out of the weave”.

The Lifestream is present in all things living and are perceived to form part of “gods’” bodies, who actively will its effects. In two senses (both the metaphorical and the real), the gods are the Lifestream. They are its keeper and tender, but there have been times where they have died/separated from their divinity, and magic became twisted or had failed entirely.

ELEVEN WIZARDING SCHOOLS

A wizarding school is an official, educational institution that provides magical instruction to young witches and wizards. There are eleven wizarding schools established throughout the world, all of which are registered with the International Confederation of Wizards. Because most countries do not have their own wizarding school, families will often resort to magical travel, homeschooling, or smaller/unregistered/less-regulated organisations.

THE MINISTRY OF MAGIC

The Ministry of Magic is the main governing body of the magical community in Asia; its main intention being the preservation of magical law. The Ministry also connects most governments to the wizarding world. The Ministry of Magic was formed as a successor to the earlier High Council, a group of powerful witches and wizards from the Goryeo and Joseon dynasties known as the High Priests or Priestesses of Magic. The Council was in power till the Japanese overruled them in the early 1900s. But the Council was involved in the International Confederation of Wizards' decision to create the Statute of Secrecy in 1692. Today, the Ministry of Magic takes responsibility of enforcing said statute in Korea, Japan and all over the continent. As such, the laws against magic/wand use by underage witches/wizards and non-magic folk are also enforced by the Ministry, in part to maintain secrecy.

The current Minister for Magic in Korea is Goo Sangshin, whose role is to work in tandem with the Korean President to protect the Muggle World. Each President of Korea is visited by the Minister for Magic. The Ministry's headquarters are located deep underneath Namsan Park, Seoul; comprising of eleven stories that house an almost-infinite number of departments. The Korean Ministry is very much based on the British Ministry as they assisted the rebuild of the Korean Wizarding World.

KOREAN WIZARDING SPORTS

Though Quidditch isn't as popular in Asia, there is a great exception to Japan and Korea (who both participate in the International Quidditch Tournament for the World Cup). Quidditch was brought to Korea during the Japanese Occupation, where it was exciting news for locals reading the paper. After the Korean War, foreign influence helped build up the sport in Korea; and hence led to the formation of house teams at Sumasandeul along with official teams from all eight provinces.

Korean Quidditch uniforms (regulation padding not included), regardless of the team's colors, are quite distinct. Firstly, all players (of any gender) tie headbands (of a breathable fabric) over their foreheads for a variety of reasons; keep hair out of the way, soak up sweat, to look cool or keep the goggles resting on their head from causing marks whilst playing. Cheollik are worn with a sash around the waist and cuffs on the lower arms. During the Joseon Dynasty, these were worn by military figures due to their maneuverability and symbolic significance. Baji are worn as bottoms; which are essentially tightly-tied trousers— but can be substituted by shorts. This uniform is paired with hwa (a general term for boots), which are used for better grip on the foot rungs of a broomstick.

KOREAN WIZARDING COMMUNITIES

Korean wizarding communities used to stick together in numbers or isolate in the countryside, however most families nowadays are well-integrated into the Muggle world and live in big cities such as Seoul. Families that can afford or possess the ability to cast extension charms can also have properties concealed/expanded by magic; such as apartments hidden within apartments, or homes masquerading as rundown/niche stores that Muggles rarely ever enter.

There is also specialty housing in Cheongsangnam-do (founded by the Ministry) where physically, mentally, or financially disadvantaged witches and wizards are permitted to stay and be treated or cared for.

There are still places out of reach from Muggles, and most are hidden in the rural/remote areas of Korea. For example, “all-magic” villages near the S.I.T campuses (Hallasan, Jirisan, Seoraksan) evade hikers with Muggle-Repelling charms as well as trespasser mazes and creature guardians.

Though most of these villages (such as Jipangi Village) have retained their traditional appearance and layout, they are greatly populated by the international magic community; going so far as adopting British franchises such as Zonko’s and Honeydukes to facilitate foreign tourists that aren’t familiar with their Korean counterparts. Sumasandeul students also love visiting villages like Jipangi since they hold a lot of ancient history and mystery; especially those with abandoned temples rumoured to be haunted.

Seoul doesn’t have the equivalent of a Diagon Alley, as wizards and witches shop/trade where Muggles do. Only magical families/individuals are able to access/locate certain resources and inventories from special stores and markets. This is because most are hidden/can only seen by witches and wizards or otherwise require a secret, coded greeting. Notable hot spots for witches and wizards are places like One Eyed Wizard's (a café-cross-butterbeer-bar that has a floor dedicated to magical beings and/or creatures) as well as—

Itaewon: several lanes packed with foreign fast food chains, clubs, bars and shops (perfect for books, ingredients and other material purchases).

Myeongdong Street: known for its abundance of major fashion brand stores (where robes and garments alike can also be bought), bright neon signs, yelling street vendors, family-owned restaurants and much more.

Hongdae Street: a popular shopping district known for its busking areas, cutely-themed café-libraries, quaint flower/general stores as well as being a vibrant party/student area; the street and subway nearby is usually extremely packed, but that’s what gives the street its special vibe and magical shopkeepers the ability to easily blend into the crowd.

Insadong Street: full of culture and history, the area is known to target unsuspecting tourists as well as magical individuals looking for traditional tools, crafts and other specialty items.

Entry #5: Short k-dramas to binge watch.

Hello, hello!

How is everyone? I hope you are all great! :)

Lately I’ve been watching k-dramas non-stop so I though it would be a good idea to share some of them. For this post I will be sharing with you 8 short dramas to binge watch that I’m sure you will enjoy. By the way, a good thing about some of this shows is that you can finish them in a day this way you can watch many more and I promise you won’t regret it hehe.

Also, I’m going to try to not do any spoilers so you can have the whole experience hehe. So let’s begin:

1. Best Mistake 1 & 2

To start we have ‘Best Mistake’, in this show we meet Kim Yeon Do, a nice girl that has been stressing out for a while because she has a ver persistent admire who is basically a stalker. Because of this, she decides to set as her profile picture a photo of a random guy from social media. Little did she know that this guy is no other than Ji Hyun Ho, one of the popular kids at her school so, as you may expect things star to get interesting from this point because little by little the get to know each other.

As for the second season of this drama, the story continues into a new school year. Here, they will try to overcome the many challenges that will be presented to them, starting with a new guy who is determine to be with Yeon Do so, the question is: can love conquer all obstacles? well you can find out with this drama hehe

Fun fact: this drama was based on a mobile story game.

2. Revenge note 1 & 2

For season 1 we have Ho Goo Hee a quite but nice girl who is constantly having a hard time at school that one day received a mysterious message from an app that allows here to get revenge on the classmates who bullied her and along the way she finds friendship and love. Also if you are an Aroha this drama is for you since Cha Eunwoo is part of the main cast and Astro members also apppear now and then.

Season 2 we have Oh Jina who is the next person the app helps when her school life gets complicated. Also she gets involved in a love triangle after twin brothers Seo Robin and Seo Jae Yi fall for her. But not everything is bad because she will find love and true friendships.

3. Café Kilimanjaro

Is a story of 4 best friends (San Ha, Ji Ho, Jae Young and Chan) who want to become a successful band but they haven’t been so lucky. One day they decide to rent a place to practice so they go to a retailer that shows them a really nice place that is being used as a coffee shop and everything seems fine. However the owner of the place doesn’t think the same, Song Tami is a nice girl who’s dream was to open a coffee shop and be her own boss yet she lacks of abilities to make desserts and even a basic black coffee. But still she is very optimistic that everything will get better. When she encounters Sanha and his friends, they decide to have an agreement, they willl work part time and they can practice as much as they want. After some obstacles, they realize that it doesn’t matter where they are as long as they are together and grow as a band too. You can discover the whole story in this short drama.

4. Thumping spike 1 & 2

If you like k-dramas and volleyball, well, this is the perfect show for you (Also if you don’t like volleyball it doesn’t matter because you might start to like it after watching the show lol). So for season 1 we have Kang Se Ra a professional volleyball player who is know as “the volleyball goddess”, suddenly she gets involved in a scandal and the way to fix it is if she coaches a high school team. The problem is, they are know as the worst team in the league. However there is a slice of hope when Hwang Jae Woon, the last team captain, comes back to school. What will happen to the team? Will Kang Se Ra be able to find love along the way? You can find out in the drama!

For season two we have some of the same cast but in a different story. Here we now are at college and we meet, Han Da Woon a student of excellence that on the first day meets Go Yi Ra and just like that she thinks it’s the love of her life. Sadly the only thing Go Yi Ra cares about is volleyball and he is only focus to get his college team a win so Han Da Woon needs to come up with a plan. Then she meets Dong Hae Sung a volleyball star who agrees to be her love counselor if she helps him study. This is where everything beings, will Han Da Woon find love? Will Go Yi Ra lead the team to victory?

5. Wednesday at 3:30 pm

This is the story of Seon Eun Woo a girl who has a long time boyfriend that suddenly decides to break up. The problem is that she still loves him so she decides she wants to win him back. Suddenly she reunites with childhood friend Yoon Jae Won and he sets up a plan where she will pretend she is having the best life single so that her old boyfriend will come running. However things get complicated because Eun Woo and Jae Won might start having feelings for each other. Want to know what happens next? Go watch this mini drama!

6. The world of my 17

This story follows 4 high school students: Oh Na Ri, Im Yu Na, Seo Mi Rae and Im Seon Ji. We see how their friendship starts growing little by little as they found new friends, love, break ups and life lessons. This drama is based on a webtoon and even though is a short show I think is very entertaining.

7. Love revolution

Gong Joo Young is a hopeless romantic boy that after moving houses meets the love of his life on the street, a very nice but quite and a little cold girl named Wang Ja Rim. Later he finds out that they are in the same school so Joo Young decides to do whatever it takes to win Ja Rim’s heart. Follow Joo Young on his quest to be with Ja Rim while you also meet all of their friends having great moments together. This drama is also based on a webtoon. I highly recommend it, it’s a very funny and cute drama that you really enjoy watching, plus if you like it you can get more excited because there will be a season 2. Yay!

8. Special mention to: Be my boyfriend

Finally we will talk about ‘Be my boyfriend’ this drama just premiered a month ago so its just started. It is a spin off of ‘Best Mistake’ so if you liked this show, just like me you will have a lot of fun watching this new one. The story is about Lee Seung Min a nice student who just like every boy at his school is in love with Oh Ji Na a very popular and talented girl. One day she breaks up with her boyfriend but he keeps following her to make up so she panics and she says she has a new boyfriend, this “boyfriend” happens to be Lee Seung Min. Since she has to prove to her ex that she is actually dating someone else, she decides to make a contract with Seung Amin to fake their relationship and although he was hesitant at first, Seung Min agrees because he is determined to win her heart. What will happen next? Well, we will have to wait and see. Right now it only has 3 episodes but I encourage you to watch it, it’s very funny. Also, since it’s a spin off it’s very nice to see familiar faces from time to time.

My friend Rosina has made a book tag for her love of Critical Role, over on Lace & Dagger Books and she tagged me today, so I will be doing my best to try and answer all her questions as much as I can!

With today’s tag, I’m going to be listing all the members so far of the chaotic Hells Bells and giving you prompts relating to them!

Ashton - A Non Binary Protagonist - Prince Sebastian from 'The Princess & The Dressmaker by Jen Wang - I could literally talk about this book all day, as soon as I read it became one of my favourite books of all time. The story of a prince who keeps his secret life as a woman a secret, he is revealed and accepted by his family and it's a wonderful story really meant for children but anyone can take from this book. I wish everyone got the chance to see this book.

Dorian - A book featuring complicated family dynamics - Nettle & Bone by T. Kingfisher - I mean, I read this book recently and it still stays with me. A mother who arranges her daughter's wedding to an awful prince, a sister who wants to save her even though the last words they spoke were not kind. It's an incredibly complicated dynamic but it makes this book one of my favourite books of this year. An incredible new fantasy.

Laudna – A spin-off book or one where characters from another book or series have popped in to say hi - The whole Love, Creekwood Series with Simon Vs The Homosapiens Agenda, Leah On The Offbeat and the novella Love Creekwood are the perfect example to me of how to explore a group of friends through a series of books. I loved Leah so much in 'Simon..' and I'm so glad she got her own book and her own romance.

Imogen - A Book That's related to sleep somehow - My Year of Rest And Relaxation by Otessa Moshfegh - I didn't like this book, and I know books can't be for everyone but it did make me think about how much I needed some rest and this book is about sleeping a year away. The main character induces? herself into a medical slumber for a year and I don't know what happens as I never made it that far but everyone tells me it's worth it. So yeah, here's a book recommendation I guess.

Orym - A book with moons on the cover - The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry - This story is heartbreaking and charming and a fairy tale for the modern day. I guess the moral of the story is no time you wasted in doing something you loved, is ever something that is ever wasted.

Fearne - A book featuring an animal companion - The Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb - I could recommend the whole trilogy of books for this, but I will say the relationship between Fitz and NightEyes in this series is incredible and the bond they have between the two of them is incredible and he deserves to live forever. The wolf I mean. All pets deserve to live forever to be honest.

Chetney - A Book That Surprised You - The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid - I'm not going to talk about this much because it's a big one for many people's TBR's, but that damned twist and reveal at the end stupefied me. I didn't see it coming at all. Deserved every star I gave it.

F.C.G - A book you have a complicated relationship with - Much like Rosina, I also enjoyed House of Earth & Blood but I am not going to read book two. After being spoiled for it, I would rather not put myself through that, no matter how spicy it gets. The first book is a really great read, and I highly recommend the audiobook but nope, big nope after hearing what happens in book two.

Bertrand - A book with a death that hit you hard - Familiar Things by Sok-Yong Hwang - Korean literature really likes to break your heart, well, in every book I've read from authors from South Korea, they hurt me like nothing else has, and the loss of one of the characters near the end of this book genuinely felt like someone had taken my heart and jumped on it. A really beautifully written book and poverty about existing in the only way you can, it's one of the best books I've read this year.

Want to binge watch a kdrama? Try these 13 kdrama rom-coms from 2015-2019.

When I watch a drama for the second time I don’t really pick complex dramas I instead prefer watching the ones that I know I’m gonna have a fun time watching. I picked 13 of my favorite rom-coms of the last five years that I just can't get enough of. I think you'll enjoy watching these dramas again and if you haven't watched them then now is the time!

1. Oh Hae Young again. This drama is as funny as it is intense. Eric (Shinwa) plays the CEO of a sound effects company. He hasn’t get over his past relationship with his last girlfriend Oh Hae Young. Then he meets another Oh Hae Young who is known for throwing herself to love with all she’s got and was just dumped by his fianceé. He starts having visions about her.

2. I remember you (Hello Monster). This 2015 drama is the one I’m currently rewatching and the one I’ve watched the most. The romance is not the main focus but it has some sweet moments. The story is about two kids that were hurt by the actions of a serial killer and now grown up they’ll try to catch him while solving murders at the same time. The cast is so good. This is one of the few dramas I would have loved if they’d done a second season.

3. Strongwoman Do Bong Soon. There’s dramas that I finish and just start watching again. That’s what happened to me with this one. It’s just such good fun. The story is about a girl who has enhireted the gift of being really strong. When a CEO of a game developing company finds out he hires her as a bodyguard.

4. She was pretty. Park Seo Joon and Hwang Jung Eum made a lot of good dramas the last few years some I added to this list. However this witty and sometimes ridiculous comedy was the one that I enjoyed the most. Super Junior’s Siwon made a stand out performance as a second lead. The drama tells the story of Hye Jin that reconnects with her childhood love but is embarassed by the way she looks. Her pretty best friend pretends to be her and meets him for just one time. When Hye Jin gets a new job she finds out her childhood friend is her new boss.

5. Oh my ghostess. This was Park Bo Young’s breakthrough performance along with Kim Seul Gi and Jo Jung Suk they made a hilarious bunch. The story is about a shy cook that is possesed by a ghost. She ends up making a pact with the ghost to help her get close to her boss a famous chef.

6. Hyde, Jekyll, me. This drama is based on a webetoon and actually it wasn’t as popular as I thought it would be but I really enjoyed it. Hyunbin plays a CEO with a complex past that suffers of disociative identity disorder. When his heart rate passes 150 he becomes Robin. Park Jimin is a circus master that becomes close to both of his personalities.

7. The girl who sees smells. JYJ’s Park Yochun and Shin Se Kyung star in this fantasy comedy about a girl who sees smells and uses her powers to help a detective solve murders,

8. Weightlifting fairy Kim Bok Yoo. Honestly I was frustrated with Kim Book joo (played by Lee Sung Kyung) for about half of the drama but there’s too many hilarious scenes that make this drama just great fun. The story is about a female weightlifting athlete that has a weight complex that makes her question whether she should keep competing at all. Nam Joo Hyuk plays a swimmer with a trauma that keeps him out of the competitions and is Kim Bok Yoo’s former classmate.

9. What is wrong with secretary Kim? This has to be one of the best adaptations of a webtoon. The hilarious relationship between Kim Miso and Lee Yeon Joon are off the charts funny. Past wounds, an awkward personality and overconfidence will get in the way of Yeon Joon’s (Park Seo Joon) goal of stopping his secretary from resigning by giving her what she wants: a boyfriend.

10. Beauty Inside. Seo Hyun Jin is so good at doing comedy. Just like in Oh Hae Young again her character in this drama is all over the place and seems to attract trouble. She plays an actress that turns into a different person a few days once a month. She meets the CEO of a major corporation that just like her has something to hide: he can’t recognize faces. Ahn Jae Hyun and Lee Dae Hae play the secondary couple and honestly I got into their relationship even more than the main one.

11. Fight my way. Long time best friends Ko Dongman (Park Seo Joon) and Choi Aera (Kim Jiwon) have a very playful and silly relationship that starts to become something more. Meanwhile their best friends have been in a six year long relationship but go through trying times when a coworker sets her eyes in Ahn Jae Hong’s character.

12. Lucky Romance. The plot of this one is mostly ridiculous but hella funny to watch. Bon Nui, a programmmer that is struggling to pay for her sister’s medical bills, does everything a fortune teller asks her to keep his sister alive who is in a coma. She’s told the only way to save her sister is to sleep with a guy that is born in the chinese years of the tiger. Sooho is a genius game developer that suffers from a past trauma and is born in the year of the tiger.

13. Her private life. This sweet fun rom-com from last year is about a curator that moonlights as a fangirl. However her double life is at risk of being discovered after her new boss tries to enlist her idol for the next exhibit. Her relationship with her boss soon changes.

Oh man, it completely depends on what you want to read!

Poetry:

I just responded to an ask and listed like 10 of my favorite poems, but more generally:

- Badger Clark: queer cowboy poet; his work is really rhythmic/lyrical and tends to be about General cowboy/Western things

- Wilfred Owen: gay WWI soldier who trained as a pastor; his love poetry is gorgeous and his war poetry is haunting

- Langston Hughes: queer Black writer; lots of poems about race and Harlem (the Black neighborhood of NYC)

- Phillis Wheatley: Black enslaved person; Wheatley was the first woman published in America and her stuff tends to basically say ‘hey look I’m just as smart as a white person maybe we should have equality’

Contemporary fiction:

- I’m loving Sarah Gailey’s work right now, they’ve got two fun gay vaguely Wild West ensemble pieces (Upright Women Wanted and River of Teeth) and a fun magical California noir one (Magic for Liars)

- Tamora Pierce is an author I grew up on and am getting back into; she’s got tons of series about lady knights and lady spies and girls in fantasy in general

- the Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo is a super fun, gay, incredibly diverse heist series (good old fashioned doing crime for money)

- Nottingham by Anna Burke is a lesbian retelling of the Robin Hood myth

- The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon is about an autistic boy who wants to be an astronaut and needs to find out who killed his neighbor’s dog (it’s also about family, and how much love we can give each other, and how to find new ways to love each other when old or ‘normal’ ones don’t work for us)

Classics

- I’m a slut for The Hobbit not gonna lie; it’s rambly and sometimes slow but it feels cozy somehow

- Les Mis is a dense motherfucker but it was also a pretty fundamental book in getting me into social justice

- Jane Austen in general is fantastic; I’m a huge fan of Northanger Abbey in particular because it just makes fun of trashy Gothic lit

- on the topic of Gothic lit, Dracula is really worth the read. You can’t get the full story or the right vibes from any other medium.

- Frankenstein is also worth the read. Shelley knew what was up.

- Their Eyes Were Watching God by Hurston is in dialect, which can take a bit to get used to, but it’s SUCH A GOOD BOOK

- A Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde is so painfully gay it was used as evidence in his sodomy trial. If you can, get your hands on the uncensored version for maximum gay.

Nonfic

- Portrait of a Marriage by Nigel Nicholson is about his parents’ polyamorous relationship(s), including his mom’s relationship with Virginia Woolf

- 100 Essays I Don’t Have Time To Write by Sarah Ruhl is a fun collection of 100 short essays about theater, patenting, and life

- This Republic of Suffering by Drew Gilpan Faust is a bit slow, but it’s a look at the way the American Civil War changed our ideas about death and it made me want to study history

Plays (these got away from me a bit, sorry)

- No Exit by Jean-Paul Sartre is about three awful people trapped in a room together. Maybe not the play to read in quarantine but a damn good play.

- Virginia Woolf’s Orlando, adapted by Sarah Ruhl. A play version of the book Woolf wrote about how much she loved her girlfriend, it uses lots of Woolf’s original language and is so fucking gay and beautiful

- Hamlet by Shakespeare. What can I say; I love this funky lil depressed gay and his cute nerd boyfriend. Macbeth and The Tempest are also great.

- A Sunday Morning in the South by Georgia Douglas Johnson needs a trigger warning for racial violence, but it’s one of the most chilling things I’ve ever read in my life. It’s about a a Black family in the Deep South in the early 1900s, it’s pretty short and it’s so horrifyingly good.

- Trifles by Susan Glaspell is about a murder investigation, and more deeply about women protecting each other.

- Tea by Velina Hasu Houston is about four Japanese women in a small town in Kansas in the 1960s and how they find common ground and community.

- Language of Angels by Naomi Izuka is a vaguely supernatural one about a girl who dies in rural Appalachia and the way she haunts the classmates involved.

- Slaughter City by Naomi Wallace is about worker’s rights both historically and in the modern meat packing industry; it’s also got some really cool supernatural elements

- In the Next Room, or The Vibrator Play by Sarah Ruhl is about the invention of the vibrator, and more generally about intimacy and sexuality/sexual pleasure.

- M. Butterfly by David Henry Hwang is a subversion of the white savior trope and a commentary on the effeminization of Asian men, based on a true spy story.

We’re getting closer to the end of this series! We’re going to dig around Mass Effect Andromeda’s files for information about the human characters. Some of them have summaries and biographies hidden inside the game files for the developers to use.

When it comes to the humans, many minor NPCs have summaries while major characters such as Liam, Addison, and Gil do not.

Major Human Characters:

Cora Harper Cora Harper is a human soldier who trained with mysterious asari commandos. Talented and smart, Harper is a consummate professional who finds herself always looking for a trusted mentor to give her guidance and a path in life. She was a close friend of the Player's father--as close as anyone got--and can give insight into him even after his passing. Harper is a woman of few words: in a pinch, she prefers to let a bit of deadpan humour or a well-placed shot do the talking.

Suvi Anwar Suvi Anwar is the Tempest's resident science officer. A brilliant physicist, she was recommended for the Pathfinder Initiative, and jumped at the chance to explore the wonders of a new galaxy. Initially attached to the NEXUS as part of the team responsible for the data collection and analysis of the conditions in the Heleus Cluster, Suvi campaigned to become part of the Pathfinder's scouting team, in order to expand her investigation of the cluster. Excitable, may occasionally talk to herself. Brain goes fast, mouth runs to keep up.

Harry Carlyle Harry is initially the team doctor on the Pathfinder team, but then swaps job with Lexi. Harry remains on the Hyperion and helps watch over the sibling. Harry is in his late 40s, easy-going, and game for anything.

Ryder Sr. Father of the player character. Tough, no nonsense ex-soldier-turned-Pathfinder. He's a commanding presence.

Ellen Ryder Ellen Ryder is the wife of Alec Ryder, the original human Pathfinder who dies in M1 (and mother of player characters, Scott and Say). Ellen met Alec when he was doing his N7 training on Earth. Ellen was a scientist involved in the early stages of human biotic research, delving into the use of implants as a way of harnessing biotic abilities. At the time, this was very primitive and often dangerous work. Alec and Ellen married, but he was then deployed to the First Contact War, leaving Ellen as something of a soldier's wife, moving around wherever Alec was posted. Next up was the Citadel, where Alec was ambassador and Ellen raised their two children, Scott and Sara for a number of years on the station. On the Citadel, Ellen found new horizons opening up in her field, with the galactic knowledge of biotics far in advance of the work she'd been doing on Earth. But there was a dark side too. Ellen experienced the onset of a serious degenerative disease. Its root cause could be traced back to her early work on biotics on Earth, at a time when the danger of exposure to eezo was little understood. Because her illness was so rare, there was no known cure. The family moved back to Earth to care for her and Alec devoted himself to developing SAM as a way of curing her. Alec enlisted Ellen in the project, and together they leveraged her knowledge of implants, melding it with Alec's understanding of A.I. The project consumed Alec, and he became a distant and aloof figure to both his wife and children. Whereas Ellen tried to put on a brave face and remain a committed mother - she eventually ended up the de facto "single parent" in place of their mostly absent father. Despite her disease, she remained a loving and committed mother, caring deeply about her two children. Eventually, her condition worsened to the point where it was too late, death was inevitable. She was willing to accept this, but Alec was not. He loved her too much. Despite their sometimes rocky relationship they still felt passionate about each other, even to the very end.

Race: Human A character in the Alec Ryder memory flashbacks. This is the Mysterious Benefactor -- the secret backer of the entire Andromeda Initiative who originally hired Alec. She's a woman, though her face will remain hidden in this game and we'll only hear her voice.

Humans of Kadara:

Sloane Kelly Sloane Kelly also known as the "Outcast Queen" is a "Robin Hood" figure who leads the Outcast Legion pirate faction by holding the spoils of war in one hand and a loaded gun in the other. A hardened survivor from the Nexus rebellion, she holds a deep personal grudge against the Andromedia Initiative--and, by association, the Pathfinder. South African. Attractive but tough. Like Furiosa from Mad Max.

Reyes Vidal Reyes Vidal presents himself to the player as a smuggler and contact of the Angaran Resistance, but he is secretly the Charlatan, one of the two major pirate lords vying for power in Kadara Port. Dr. Ryota Nakamoto Ryota Nakamoto once worked for the Outcast Legion, but when Sloane turned what should have been a medical breakthrough into a drug, he quit and started up a free clinic in the slums of Kadara Port. He is Japanese, but doesn't have an accent.

Humans of the Nexus:

Jien Garson This is Jien Garson, the founder of the Andromeda Initiative. A charismatic visionary billionaire ala Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, or Steve Jobs. She is seen in the video "info wall" in beginning of game. She will also be a character in the MEA prequel novel.

William Spender The son of an influential investor of the pathfinder initiative, Spender was assigned to the Pathfinder Initiative as an administrator. Though he was not competent, his ability as a politician was such that he managed to preserve his position within the Initiative until the departure of the arks. Woken up during the arrival in the Heleus Cluster, he became the director of colonial affairs’ assistant more though lack of personel than anything else. His propensity for dodgy politics and behind the scenes dealing (and lying) continued, though a fatal miscalculation led to him becoming a pawn of the Nexus Exiles. He subsequently contributed to the departure of the krogan clan among other issues. He complies with Tann's requests thus is in good odor with him. Addison knows he is less than qualified and suspects he had a part in the krogan leaving, but no one has any idea of his involvement with the exiles.

Cryo Deployment Administrator Vladimir Brecka Dedicated but long-suffering assistant to the Colonial Director. Generally good natured, but knows his place in the order of things, and wants better. Knows that a good job will lead to better things for everyone, so he grins and bears it. Light Romanian Accent.

Doctor Camden Chief botanist and manager of Hydroponics who left for Andromeda after the Divorce From Hell. Camden is brisk and fussy, annoyed that people dismiss him as "a gardener" when his work in Hydroponics keeps everyone still breathing, eating, and drinking--nothing important, right? He nurses that grudge like a favourite teddy bear, but underneath it all he's deeply concerned that a thin green line separates the Nexus from life and death. Akin to the Doctor from ST: Voyager.

Yolanda Carter Operations Manager. A seemingly quiet and posed woman, Yolanda will rain the fires from hell down upon any unsuspecting fool who presumes to think her request for this or that item is superfluous. While some are intimidated by her, having fallen foul of her before, all respect her ability to get shit done. She works with Vetra and the two make a scary team when they are like-minded on acquiring something for the station.

Ada DeYoung A young technician working under Kesh on the Nexus. She is optimistic and tends to take everything with great aplomb. Kesh sends her to fix problems that no one can figure out, as the joke among the engineers is that the bugs then to happen when she's around. She is excellent at tracking down power issues within any given sort of network.

Sung-Soo Hwang Technician. An engineer working under Kesh in the engineering department. He is a hardware specialist who tends to be partnered with Ada more often than not due to their complementary skillsets and the fact that he takes the power outages Ada discovers with humor and has set up a countdown betting pool as to the next outage she tracks down.

Colonial Affairs Ops Lin. A young woman, asian, working the comms in the Colonial Affairs area. She's generally in charge of ensuring Addison is aware of on the spot reports when she's not at her desk, and managing the flow of information from settlements to the appropriate department head.

Humans on Meridian After the Last Mission:

Iora Pillay (Chief Operations) Iora Pillay (iora, not Lora) takes on the managerial position meant to temporarily organize Hub operations until a permanent leader is decided, then assist that leader in perpetuity. East Indian by way of the Citadel. Focused, careful. Respects the Pathfinder, but on some level considers their job "done." Very pro Nexus-as-new-Citadel. She is "second wave," one of the first of the humans "defrosted" after the Hyperion was placed.

Hunter Kerry (Chief Engineer) Hunter is heading up the planned deconstruction of the Hyperion, managing the balance between reuse and recycling. New Zealander. Plainspoken, tough as balls. Doesn't care about politics. Complains that accommodating aliens messes with construction, but then goes above and beyond to do it. He just wanted you to know. He's another second wave defrostee.

Darla vas Hyperion (Placements Officer) Darla vas Hyperion is in charge of assigning occupations as the Ark is slowly repurposed and the humans in stasis are awakened. Spent most of her life among Quarians, because her parents were diplomats. Utterly used to ship-life and the specificity of roles that demands. Pale. Used to life in a sterile environment. Middle management, glad to be in HR and not farming. Idolizes the Pathfinder. Another second wave defrostee. Korean Heritage.
